003we have several here so we'll just SK I'll approved here end recommendation to approve a $700 donations for United Steel Workers Local 285 for Southwood Trap Club recommendation to approve a $110 donation from an anonymous donor $200 donation from Eagles Lodge for both Northfield track and our recommendation to approve a $350 donation from the fountain Christian Church for Southwood FCA a uh recommendation to approve $250 donation from Harmon Consulting $2 donation from Stephanie hacker $250 donation from Wabash County Sheriff Department $250 donation from bnk rootbeer 250 from Gabe Ana nesio I probably messed that up $500 donation from affiliate appraisals $300 donation from Central Indiana ethanol $200 donation from aww auto rental $50 donation from James Sparks $50 donation from Nathan ww and $250 donation from Gman and bunch Orthodontics and $200 donation from Nicholas

004Craig all for Southwood baseball and a recommendation to approve the $750 from a science MSC LLC for Northfield FFA um a motion second move second all those that are in favor to approve these donations say I I any opposed all right we always are grateful for all these donations um they're going towards many different activities that our kids are involved in it helps run smoothly School recognition y we got a couple here so first of all from Heather click um she's um teacher at Metro North Elementary she says hello I wanted to send some positive news will chunks uh some bus driver went above and beyond with a student by fixing a backpack zipper for one of my preschoolers she took the backpack home at the beginning of the day sewed it brought it back

005uh to school before the end of the day my student was so happy as the bag is very special to this child Audrey Amos senior at Southwood and Harland career center student volunteered to cut um hair for three students uh from Metro North and Sharp Creek for free family in need um one of those kids was from my class and that child siblings all received a haircut at Heartland thanks to Mrs um a Audrey's teacher Mrs ainson said that if there is ever any student in need of a haircut at MSD they will take care of it for free Heartland creu center I'm just thankful for the good I see and our mstd family wanted to share with admin way to collaborate and take care of our children so I thought that was very good

006how that all worked even with our sub bus driver and of course with uh people and students at Harland forer summer also this is from Tanya Boon do you want to go ahead and read that or you want me to read that for you oh sure I'd be glad to go ahead so we had several track athletes reing re All State academic honors and so I just wanted to recognize them the criteria for receiving this award they have to be nominated by their head coach they also have to maintain a GPA of 3.5 and achieve a minimum of of 12200 on their sat or 1140 on the PSAT they also must be solid enough athletes if they're on their sectional roster we had five Southwood track members received that our seniors were Collins and Randy

007boom and our Juniors were Grace Drake and Gabe mey and Luke caring um because of Luke hering's SAT scores he actually earned first team honors the rest of them received honorable mention so they will be getting certificates for academic all state from this past spring all right thank you very much you and that's all I have that has been given to me at this time so we'll keep them going up summer if there's others that happen okay all right um move on to financial report or we're going to do the presentation sorry came all the way down here for all [Music] right go ahead don't want make I'll be back tomorrow too if you want to join us so um I intend to give you folks kind of a 30 30,000 foot view of the

008projects tonight if at any because I can go on for an hour and a half if you want me to um if at any point you think I've skipped over something you have a question please stop me and we for your all your benefit we also shared this with the Sharp Creek staff on Friday at least most of it we didn't ask them or we didn't show them the um with that I'll start out with Metro north tonight the existing site that should look familiar to you nor is up the gym is over on the left side of the screen Jim cafeteria you go to the next slide Chris that's me I'm sorry Mike all the area in white is the existing footprint that area in blue is the addition we're talking about to extend

009the gym so again the next slide overall footprint of building the darker blue is the addition the lighter blue is the area that gets some form of renovation um jump one more ahead the when I say renovation the existing gym cafeteria basically gets new finishes we'll have a flooring through there that's continuous either a high quality vinyl or a lowlevel athletic flooring just for that space that that can handle the tables and um keeping the existing bleachers we'll paint the the ceilings and walls and all the steel structure currently we're trying to match the existing structure as closely as we can um you might want to change we we'll have a conversation about that tomorrow that's turning out to be rather expensive because of the way U Metro North was built not a budget breaker

010but it might factor into that structure versus some of the other alternates you might be looking for additional parking lots ET but not going to worry about that tonight view from the outside because we don't think we have a snowballs chance in Hades of matching the existing brick on this building um we want to and because we don't necessarily want to make it look like we're trying to match it we want everybody to recognize this is an addition that is being respectful of the existing building so we're looking at a a stone or an imitation Stone material when I say imitation Stone it's basically Limestone powder that's recompressed to make stone it's a little less expensive it comes in very regular shapes even though you see kind of a rubble pattern gets created with it

011so that's what we're talking about colors aren't NE one more thing before I jump off there instead of having full height Windows we're looking where it's darker on the bottom we're looking at what we call spandrel Glass there so it'll be glass on the outside but there'll actually be concrete block on the inside up that high so we can have Wall pads and all the things you would expect in a little gym like that um and just make things a little safer for everybody but glass up high to bring l so thank you sir you might mention the goal that was trying to be achieved here by adding on the G space okay so if you recall early on the concept we started with was an additional on the west side of the existing space

012what that did was created a separate cafeteria and a separate gym but what staff requested was that we consider extending the existing space so you have a larger assembly area for those few times during the year that you try to bring in a lot of parents big group um we'll have a drop- down curtain between the gym floor which will actually push to the South and the cafeteria area which will be tables and chairs at the North End that can actually stay in place now there is a bit of a code issue that we're working through and applying for a variance it will no longer be just open between the hallway and the gym cafeteria we have to close that up and try to create a fire separation in there just to uh give a

013nod to the fire inspectors and the folks at the state who care about those things so so you have doors of each of those sections or just like we'll actually have I think what we could you back up one more please I'm sorry um at the top two pairs of doors and and because of the way the columns lay out they'll actually hinge back to back but and then we're adding a door down there at the southeast Corner which is something that existing space doesn't have another way out so I think there are still some things we could give up like potentially another door on the opposite side and then southwest corner have state starts pushing back on what we're trying to do the issue here is you got big non-s sprinkled building that no

014longer complies with current code and we're making it bigger granted marginally bigger and so they tend to look favorably if you give them a nod to make the space safer that's the reason for close enough to home that seemed like a minor concession to get the extra space okay we'll swing back East down the road in Northfield you see Sharp Creek and Northfield Junior Senior High School also the tennis courts up on the top note those please this is a fully developed site notice first of all the tennis courts all in line across the top that projects underway you've already approved that softball stays right where it is we're looking to move the playground up to the North in between softball and Tennis Courts um reduce it in size a little bit and the white

015thing things you see at the very top are potentially a pump house and an above ground water reservoir for the fire protection system that could go underground if you so desire it just raises the cost without being clear back there probably wasn't a big deal but it' be above ground and I'll tell you they tend to look like a galvanized green bin so it kind of fits in with the landscape um as you see the traffic coming around the building from east to west loops around the way it currently does the white area is the existing building blue area is our addition um that were taken last week to tear down the shop areas so that we can make room to put the addition on I will offer the caveat that this is fully developed

016budget permitting if budget is tight or you so desire we're bidding a couple alternates one would be to not have that parking lot by tennis just have parking similar to what you have now one row across the north side of that um but we are making two lanes the reason for that is one lane to get by and the southern Lane actually pull over to a curb and drop off or pick up because drop off and pick up on this building will likely be from the north side coming in those two entrances where the sidewalks drop down another alternate would be to only do half the parking on the west side of the building simply because that's a lot of parking spaces um be nice to have them if we can afford them but if

017not about half of that could be yard potentially we could even leave the playground there in that case if if that were to happen so those are all things we're looking at to try and manipulate budget as we continue to design andag again continues to narrow in the numbers Southwest corner of the property you see what is the bus lot and could be a daytime visitor lot to the office if you wish I don't like people Park out there now very little impact on the way the school operates currently parents come around the north side and swing around buses come in between the buildings there's not a between but it's the same drive so that's how the site's generally working for us this is just a quick image of what the north side of the

018building might look like um don't get too hung up on the colors as I told the folks from in the Shark Creek presentation on Friday world events caught up with this on this one we um we generate these types of things in office and not all my people are well versed in lighting adjustments and shading adjustments to get all the colors quite right when the machine renders it to make these things to dress them up put people in them give them scale we actually work with an outside firm um that just happened to be an Eastern po he's a Ball State grad um guy from Belgium originally married a G from Poland and ended up runs his business over there but we've worked with him for a number of years does a lot of nice

019work for us it's usually pretty quick but they're being a little nonresponsive right now so we're a little concerned about it um otherwise this would be dressed up a little more the thought here is and this doesn't render it real well we've got another image later that'll show it you see the brick um and ironically we found a brick that is almost an identical match to The Brick on The West End of the high school at the fax room also the brick that's on the locker room Edition at the far north on the East End the two places where we're tying in um so we're able to to come back it's called a Norman brick it'll be 2 and8 in or 2 and 1/4 in tall about 14 in long and it'll match up really

020well with your existing building and then metal panels to match up to the ephas colors you've already put on this past summer looking at a gray roof and then the blue we want to try and tie into the school blue at the entries as a bit of an accent just to help identify those entrances so the two vestibules on the north side and the main canopy on the southide this is how the gym or how the building drops in in footprint uh Mike if you want to come one more ahead we kind of zoom in on the addition itself so on the southwest corner there on the south side of the hallway the small space immediately up adjacent the high school bathrooms is a new tech space that's where anybody in the entire building with

021a computer problem will come so it's still relatively accessible for Junior Senior High kids it's accessible for the elementary students going left from there art and music on the south side of the hall on the North side is the rise classroom and the nurses clinic for the entire building as well well we got blowups that I'll get to those in a moment main entrance to the building is that little canopy sticking out on the south sort of dashed in over the gray sidewalk area there and to the left of that as you enter the building you come into the best of you will turn left and you're into the office boiler rooms just above that on the West Side set of student restrooms and then the student Commons up in the north west Corner um

022across from those bathrooms is the serving line for feeding the kids at this end of the building as we come down back to the east on that hallway the classroom Wing the north side will be thir grade classrooms correct me if I'm wrong um on the South Side the first room or the westernmost room is going to be dedicated to a library um most libraries now have all mobile furniture or mobile shelving and and a lot of mobile Furniture actually so all we're talking about doing is maybe dropping some of the casework in there that we might otherwise put in you could add it later if it ever needs to be turned back to a classroom room in the middle is currently unspoken for set up to be a classroom so it's a spare and

023then the easternmost classroom is the special ed room um sort of a pull out and push the kids back into their rooms they've got a couple ancillary spaces off them and the PE teacher and the gym um in the little L-shaped piece or backwards L-shaped piece up against the high school gym that is now the stem classroom and lab bathrooms above it and the north Lobby to the gym and the new concession up there um and from here we can probably jump on to some of the more detailed areas so this is the south portion of the building Tech is that bottom right corner art and music rise and the nurses Clinic kind of work together um elementary kids will come into the nurse's Clinic from the West Side Junior Senior High students come in

024from the South Side the nurse's office is actually that little box in the corner there it's got a lot of glass looking in the both sides of her off or her Clinic um she's kind of been a fishbowl but two bathrooms one geared more towards the elementary kids the other one geared towards the high school kids that also serve the rise room um two Cs on each side rise has kind of different areas because they tend to work with those kids either one onone or one on two so they break them up in different spaces adding some Clinic curtains or Hospital curtains curtain even in there so we can get some visual privacy so between a couple spaces in the rise room there's also a changing room between the clinic and the rise room between

025those three spaces the bathrooms there's areas to deal with students who have illness needs who have just physical maintenance needs of catheterization you know feeding or all the things that go on in this space they tend to support each other and so they work really well and trying to come up with spaces that complemented each other there's also a training Kitchen in the rise room set a or a washer and dryer range refrigerator sink so I think it's the only washer and dryer we've spoken of in this end of the building so far so I'm sorry left side office you come in the vestule turn left go into a reception area not exactly unlike it is now other than Crossing diagonal across the hallway as you head back that little hallway principal first office on

026the left um School counselor's second office on the left conference room at the top there a little bathroom at the top for folks in the office and most of what you see on the right is Staff work area mailboxes all the kind of stuff that sort of back a house is is all pretty tightly woven in there so just a quick glimpse of what come in in the vestibule the doors ahead of you are the ones that the students would go in in the morning when school starts get locked down once school begins and you have to go into the office what we've talked about is keeping the vestibule unlocked to come into it and then having the buzz into the office but we'll have the doors wired so if you ever in the future

027want to buzz them in from the outside and then Buzz them in a second time on the inside that's a possibility a lot of glass so she can see somebody before she lets a in as you walk through those doors the reception area couple different counter Heights that's because of ADA we have to deal with folks who come in in a wheelchair or folks that come in and know work in a check writing height and we it suddenly occurred to me we're g to come up with a new name for that counter because nobody writes checks anymore um behind there we've got a a lot of cabinets under a counter height because with all the windows there's not a lot of room for storage wall cabinets um but this basically the first floor copier is

028in this space as well so a lot of control over what goes on and to the right of that image you'll notice a window that actually looks in Mr Martin's office because the receptionist is up there alone quite a bit of the time sort of gives a backup and a little bit of security that when he's in his office he can see what's going on too just a quick shot of the kitchen in the rise room notice the little hooks across the front of their their half wall there they've got hooks all over the space for hanging legs and stuff that they do is um she's really kind of gotten to know what her her role and what her students are and how to take care of them how to keep them separated so it's

029been an interesting conversation there art room um what you see is the door coming in on the left side white boards on either side of a TV this is one room in the space that has a TV mounted up high because your art teacher often Works in front of it with a document camera and the kids she's working and talking and the kids can see above her head what she's doing you're seeing the wet side or the wet counter in the room where there's a couple sinks clay traps in there um most of this your art teacher does a lot of stuff that are laid out for the kids to pick up and go we've got some Specialty Storage on the back wall that you don't see um and we've talked about tables in this

030room that are a lot like what you might remember from shop class 3x3 4x4 heavy top storage underneath um so she can put project big project storage in and keep it locked up and safe and work through things so and if you look in the ceilings something else you might remember from shop class cord reels rather than put outlets in the floor we tend to drop them out of the ceilings anymore folks have accepted that as a visual that doesn't seem to upset them like it did 20 years ago um and it's a whole lot easier to take care of so can now we'll jump up to the northwest corner um and kind of the bottom left you see part of the boiler room and the or custodial area across that hallway to the east

031is the staff dining staff Lounge above the staff Lounge is where the serving area is and there's also a little prep goes on in there there's one warmer that can actually be used to heat up cold items and a steamer with it in there um serving line kids come in the South End go out the North End everything gets fed from back in high school in terms of food you'll see an image of the commons it's really in my mind it's got some stretching and some ways to go yet if you work through Furniture this summer with your administrators staircase up uh vestibule that goes out to the north elevator that little box right by the staircase that goes up to the second floor if you come down the hallway as I mentioned third grade

032across the top light Library classroom special needs another vestibule at the other end that heads out north to the class or to the playground PE teacher in the Far East End staff Lounge rise room as we get around the corner agen stem will'll all have access to that courtyard that gets developed in between discuss Paving that that's another area we want to spend some more time looking at what Paving means and what we do to maybe give that area a little character and a little life to help things along so quick image of the commons um along the South Wall we've got drinking fountains bottle fillers display case this all started by creating an Alco for trash cans tray returns some of that kind of stuff and also in the far corner on the souths

033side um there'll be big return air Grill because that's where we'll pull all the air try to pull it to the floor and then back up through the mezzanine on the second floor um that blue line you see going around there between the first and second floors it's a bulk head with not a lot of design put into it yet it was simply something that we put there to help begin to break up the height of the space and because the air handlers are to your left and on the second floor here will'll be snaking duct work along the two walls that you see and blowing air up and down to make sure we keep those windows from frosting over and while the primary duct work will be way up high in the ceiling um

034I've been doing this long enough to know that it's going to be cold on the floor if we don't do something if we only count on pushing air down 25 fet that's a long way to push for here other than that when you look at the top of this you what we call clouds those are nothing more than 2x two acoustic tile set in in grids that are of a defined size that are rigid and let the sound kind of go up around them so it helps to keep the sound down a little bit more it's something we do in band rooms a lot what is not on here yet is some light fixtures because we also intend to drop light fixtures down through between those and get those into the space between the floors

035a little bit to help break up this the height of the space and also to make it easier when you have to change lights or work on the light tracers get them within at least a tall ladder height so that's generally where we're going with the comments next space just swings us around to the opposite corner and looks back you can kind of see where the trash cans might go the display case the drinking familys hallway that goes back to the front door the hallway that heads down by classrooms Hobbit door on the left there goes under the stair Landing that's a Steve Holly special to put chairs in there um that was his idea I'm not going to take credit for it that was his but it's a good idea we originally had thought

036about keeping and keeping it open to the second floor but after a lot of conversation administrators felt it it's probably better to close that off and just have glass up there for the kids to look down in um one it's a safety issue two it's a noise issue this help cut noise from getting up into the second floor too and I didn't include the second floor in here but it's pretty much a copy of what's going on in the first floor just fourth grade on one side fifth grade on the other and down where we had the PE stuff that's where bathrooms are on the second floor um typical classroom come in the door to the quarter wall a tack board marker board with a 16 18inch tack board above it when you're in the

037element for grades you if you remember that's where your teacher put a b c d above the the Whiteboard well chalkboard from me I'm sorry um come around the corner what is a typical frontal room for most classrooms in Indiana these days whiteboard TV whiteboard and with the pack boards above them um in the far right corner you see the teacher wardrobe and then you see the start of the open shelving that runs under the windows this continues on around picks up the open Shel under the windows on the left notice the Cubbies that run the full width of the next common wall between the next classroom there's 24 on that wall and then four tucked in before you get back to the door outfut so every classroom has 28 open Cubbies all I believe

038we settled in on a foot wide and about a foot wide and about 18 inches deep so they're shallower than the ones that are currently in Sharp Creek because they're about 24 inches deep and the teacher said stuff gets lost in the back ones at Sharp Creek are only about N9 inch wide which poses a problem for getting some things in so these are 12 we just changed the proportions a little bit and then storage all the way to the ceiling above um all the classrooms are carpeted the hallways are all vinyl tile the commons is vinyl tile offices carpeted that's kind of generally where the spaces have gone right we move on through you see the gym now the way this has begun to set up the South gym because the doors coming in

039from the West come almost align with the center of that floor we kind of begun to think of the South floor as the PE floor they there's a curtain that drops in there just above the words PE gymnasium and then the court to the north we we're thinking of in our office more as the competition floor by competition floor I'm thinking junior high or maybe freshman um because the doors from the north Lobby coming through go into it now it's off the screen here but at the top end of this we can run now with this configuration bleachers wall the wall and get somewhere around 350 375 seats within the two rows of of track lanes that or two lanes of track that go around these floors both those lanes are 4T wide which is

040is technically an official indoor track with granted the we don't have the big broad sweeping hers but wood floors everybody involved has said wood floor stem now is Junior Senior High School stem lab during both classroom and lab the classroom will be down kind of where you see stem and the dash boox the dash boox is the size of one of the robotics battlefields for Junior Senior High school um they've also got that work area that's the small work tables not unlike what I talked about for art in this space too a lot of storage and workbenches along the East wall storage along the north wall where we come up against that staircase again this is all Junior Senior High the classroom immediately south of this in the existing building has been most recently spoken

041of as being for elementary school robotics now and then the one across the hallway to the West is where we're moving at um just an image of the gym this one actually is looking North and the bleachers the bleachers are in here but they're flat that's because the model only has them in 2dd it doesn't have the developed bleachers in them yet but they would go wall to wall at that far end notice the windows at the far end we have similar windows at the South End too um all windows in this building we've talked about the modern version of the old roller blind like we had in our our bedrooms grown up that if you let go um but in a space like this they'll be motorized they may not do a total black

042out but they will shade the space um and that seems to be what most folks have seemed comfortable with rather than do a a rendering of this when we just did a quick elevation the north Lobby the brick actually matches up again so what you're seeing in that orange area is the new vable Lobby space the entrance um using a little bit of blue I originally was going to do something similar to the two School entrances to do that I'm kind of coming up over this roof and it's if that's okay with you folks we can do that here um don't know how wasn't quite sure how far you want to go with this as an entrance to the building what you see behind it going up is the existing metal panel on the high

043school gym it's a Once Upon a Time I'm sure it was a nice bright white now it's dirty white but it's really rectal linear about 3 inch out three inches in three inches out three inches in and it's off white where we come across them with our new horizontal metal panels um we're looking at the lighter color to match what was done with ephas on the high school and then the gray is a band across the middle between the windows it would be the darker color the darker gray that was used on the epas then for our gym this is one that I originally was thinking gray but if you think about the East gym or your auxiliary gym it's kind of a dark marine blue so I didn't I wanted to throw that idea

044out to you as a group because my mind that's probably the either you like it or you don't um we can do the new gym as a Grace that's sort of a third thing but not a new color we can do it as a blue to try and complement the gym on the other side and help tie all of this together because a lot of what we've done here is try to tie our addition to the existing building with colors Andor materials even though the shape and the form of it's a little different so and I don't need that answer tonight color we can make that decision ways down the road here's an overall image to give you a real quick look of from the south west looking back over the space this begins to

045show what we're thinking of in terms of the banding with the colors on the building using a school blue not North Carolina blue in the entry canopy um just to give you a feel of what things are looking like now what we've not shown you here is the building alternates which still include potentially a third floor to the north and a wrestling ring to the east of this new and then help me if I speak out of turn because I have to confess when Wang is talking about these things I've heard enough times I kind of turn it off what you're seeing here is I think it's covered up with the MSD W bash County I think it's what they call phase four of their Logistics plan even though it's phase four this is about

046where they intend to be in terms of traffic fencing everything by end of summer early fall so I I skipped over two or three steps that are supposed to happen this summer The Idea being you still got all your student parking in blue your staff parking out there in that light blue on the east side traffic comes all all the way around and they're building to the far north up against the new tennis courts where some of the existing courts are there's going to be a gravel lot there that they use for their trailers for staging materials even if we don't build a whole parking lot there they're going to leave that gravel there when they go so you'll have that space to work with um they've also talked about contractor parking in a lot

047that sits about where we're talking about putting playground so um traffic comes all the way around they fence off Joel correct me if I'm wrong but they were pretty adamant they're still going to be able to maintain access to your main entrance and also to that entrance that's kind of towards the north end but on the east side Creek yes um but parents will still swing all the way around the orange area is where buses are going to pull in Chris you might you understand this one better than I do please yeah so um the red area is going to all be fenced up and so that's going to be fenced up by the time school starts so we wanted to get these patterns established on day one um and so the buses will drive

048up drop off swing around drop off and pull out just like they normally do in the morning in the afternoon they'll line up in a row um around that lot for pickup so that's where they normally get picked up so to do that we had to extend the driveway and make it larger uh and so you can see that expansion there to make sure that we can fit all the buses in there during that time so that lot is really only going to be used for Bus drop off and pickup uh between that time that will be more use for construction purposes Etc if they need to get in and out of that gate at that point in time so with that then we still want to be able to use the front entrance in

049between that time so instead of having parents driving through that orange area they will build a little side road there with a small parking lot in that yellow area for parents to come in if they need to drop their kid off in the middle of the day or pick their kid up they can par come into the front door and still have access that way with that area um as far as construction traffic is concerned um they're asking that construction deliveries may be made only between the time of 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m so then that way they're not messing with that green outer area of traffic flow before and after school uh because that will be the main area then that parents will have to use to come around to to drop off their

050kid or pick up their kid in the morning over at sh Creek okay I think I've only got one more image this is just to give you folks a better feel of what we're thinking of at least I'm thinking of in my head on materials so right in the bottom center you see Brick the right side is the existing brick the left side is the brick that we pick that's almost a dead match and I can tell you when you look at it up against the wall it matches better than that picture because you see some of those darker oranges that are also on the wall so I just was amazed when the manufacturer came back with that one it's a relatively speaking inexpensive Breck no bricks inexpensive but this one is as they go

051this one's good um far left The Wider flatter paddles those are 12inch panels with that lamp concealed Fastener that's what we're thinking for the two lighter areas what we would call the field top and bottom the gray area that banding between the windows we're thinking it's same material but a more repetitive pattern so not only did we get a little darker color we get a little more texture in that part of the wall when we looked at colors um I pulled these off one of the manufacturers websites I was hustling to get ready for Shark Creek I think we need to kind of get a shade darker than what you're seeing but sort of the white gray white for the the field of the walls um your white on your building is actually pretty bright

052so uh it's not quite a pure white but it's pretty closed and your gray I think it's a little darker than what was shown but that's sort of the thought on the wall the blue in the upper left is just what we thought about for that accent at the entries the blue on the bottom right is one that comes from one of the steel building manufacturers that would be an option for the gym um and the gray on the far top is more what I'm thinking for your RS so again colors can come at a later date but that's what we have in mind so start thinking that way and if you have concerns or questions or things you'd like to see changed or investigated please let us know okay h r through all that

053pretty quick but that's the end of my presentation did I leave anything out that you folks were looking to hear the bids for the roof for the Jun D they'll be it'll be 212 then right now we're showing 112 the gym can be 212 but I'll tell you um steel building manufacturer structural engineer construction manager all said one and 12 will be more cost effective I I don't know I'm not an engineer but substructure you think it have to be heavier though um it want to pitch don't we know yes want the water to run off well and that is actually one of the concerns they brought up about two and 12 on the gym because we want to clear the ridge from the twostory classroom section coming in our Eve Height's up at 34

054feet so we're way up in the air when we get to 2 and 12 we start sliding snow pretty quick and you worry about even with snow guards up there and the pre-engineered people don't like snow guards it just puts more weight on their again it begins to drive away the economies of using that that structureal type so they don't like to put snow guards up there they want us to keep a clear area on the ground that nobody can get close to don't put any kind of equipment under there that might get damaged by ice falling on it um there was discussion about the north entrance to the gyms being the primary entrance to the current main JY do you see that still being the case or um it could be if you want

055it to be but I don't see it being your primary entrance I I still see because of the bulkier parkings on the east side I still see that being the primary entrance the difference here is in one thing I didn't mention the current concession stand gets actually turned into an additional prep kitchen for this space for the new addition so with that we had to create a new concession we're putting that concession in the north Lobby um that's that's where I was kind of going with my thought there about the main entrance because the foot traffic to get to that concessionary during a ball game would have to go across the end of the North End of the main gy yes sir I just wondered if that's going to be a problem I I can't

056speak to that sir but that is a valid question cuz now you can enter both doors whether you're sitting the east or sitting on the west and that won't be the case yeah what we're looking at in fact the exterior doors on the east side of that addition um probably have gone away because Mr Oswalt said he really didn't want to feed we did a quick evaluation based on the number of seats and people you can put in your gym technically don't need four exits three meet the criteria and so the thought was we could grab that whole space for for storage which is something that the whole Athletics PE area is short on so says Mr Martin but he's already had his PL of complaining about it so storage is always the first thing

057that gets cut out when we trying to squeeze more into a building no those are very good questions way I'm just looking at is there a way that you can put that concession along the inside that Lobby running East and West instead of north and south on that West I guess it be the Southwest wall there and then you could have a door more centered in the court instead of off to the one side actually one of the things we're looking at doing right now is removing that parir of doors that's kind of behind the gold right now that goes into the storage room so you can get padded all the way across there mimic the South um if you do away with the storage room we could potentially put a window on the other

058to the east side um so that folks could come around the corner both sides but that's up to e FKS Mr oswal seem to think the storage is better yeah but I mean obviously that's what he requested but we can adapt to how need when you were shown the cabinet scen this is a secondary question we were talking about each room having contain hbac right all the classrooms yes yep um it'll interrupt the windows then like it each classroom has two window configurations each of those window configurations mimics the configuration in the High School classrooms um there's about a 4 foot space between those two windows and that's where the unit vent sits for the classrooms so same type of units you have got those CHR you got the vertical unit vro don't you have

059okay try I know Steve's familiar with them and he likes them so the theory with those individual units in a classroom and um I remember asking that years ago when I started with Carrie Wimer Frank Co our old mechanical engineer always said it's cheaper to move chilled water and heated water through a building than it is to move cooled or heated air um likewise the unit vents if one has issues or goes out it's only one room that's affected not multiple rooms now the weakness of those unit vents is they have to work a lot harder to dehumidify so when we're in that time of year where it's 70 degrees outside and we got high humidity in the morning and it starts to heat up they have a hard time Cooling and dehumidifying just because

060there's not a large stretch to run air across cooling coils they're pretty compact um so we tend to have to work those pretty hard to get some dehumidification out of them but that tends to be sort of two pre periods beginning of the year and the end of the year the rest of the time they they tend to work fairly nicely they're easy to work on and you can keep spare parts for one and this is have spare parts for a big chunky of those how far long are you then you're almost completed drawings no we uh well we've got most of the decisions made other than colors and some of the material patterning and Furniture um terms of design structural engineer has everything sort of laid out but has a lot of sizing to

061do um architecturally we've got about 20 sheets of what we call Wall sections to draw in detail we've got big picture ones but okay how does this go where's the flashing at where's all that happen U mechanically electrically they've got all the big pieces in place but they've got to size all the various runs of this that and the other thing electrically same thing they're always the last one they got to wait till everybody else has their stuff in place before they know what the electrical loads are to connect them up um so we've we've got a long way to go unfortunately this is the time when you folks don't see much change in what we do this is the part where we got to put everything we've been told over the last several months

062onto paper so contractors can bid it and build it this is the part that's not real sexy but what we'd like to do is clean up some of these renderings maybe add a handful more and replace those in this make any changes and give you folks something that you can begin to talk to your public about what you're doing and what it looks like in fact Mr Martin can confirm I told his staff said look you're the folks that are going to be in the in the community all summer and let's face it each of you knows your part of the building but not necessarily the whole building and this is your time to be able to kind of hear about everything and when somebody says I heard they're doing this because they'll ask their

063friend who happens to work there and says well I know this we're doing this and I heard they might be doing that over in that part of the building but they don't really know you get two or three of those going and suddenly who knows what you guys are shooting range you know but we told stop this you know staying ahead of the rumor mill is a good place to be hopefully we've done as much as we can to meet their requests and their needs and complying with what you folks were hoping for started down this way we not please com me I go easy on well that's one I wanted to because I I struggle with that myself but I wanted to put it in front of you folks and let you think about

064it I I don't like that I I I would go for the like we have our utility shed maybe stick with the gray on the side if you want to do blue on the roof or something I don't think they might see the the you might see from a little bit that would be the only I think that's too much we can take that lead I have no problem th a little blue in there that would be a good spot that's just anything else any other questions thank you thank you thanks for your time Dan all right public comment on the agenda items on way all right no public comment okay agenda items uh approval of minutes our last regular meeting April 23rd I get a motion a second second I got a motion a

071new math teacher and so um although he enjoyed that it was pretty good timing for him um as far as the two classes that he taught um he has 36 years at Southwood Gary Dale that was kind of missed earlier he actually did that back in January um it didn't get on the list um so we put it back on there 27 years um at Northfield but then South within Northfield now so just really appreciate that add those up but a lot of longevity um to all of our staff members uh Mrs Lewis of Southwood is working diligently to get Replacements and actually has I believe everything except Spanish right now so if you have any people out there let us know um I know they did interview they' had a couple leads but I

072don't know exactly where they are with that yet but um just looking at some other possibilities so that's that's really really good so again just want to congratulate them thank them for all of their years of service and definitely will be missed but also have great opportunities when we bring you staff in this next coming yearing back oring just can't stay away no yeah we've had we've had a couple that retired that came back to us also and we've had uh um yeah we had Mr Snider Dan Snider that came back and um he came back for was it a whole year and a half almost yeah so so anyway congratulations all of them sure appreciate our our teachers and those that have been here for such a long time grateful that they've been here

073and got to know them uh under reports we welcome Matt back don't know if you have anything to share with us but do you have anything for heartley yeah I do uh Mr ke stood in for me Monday night to have their senior certificate ceremony I didn't get to go but that's usually a good fun watch this K go across um the Highlight 100% of the of the health science students have passed their CNAs 21 of the 22 cosmetology have received their state license and they're pretty positive the last one will get and 13 of the 15 for the students in the CDL Class got their license and they expect the other two to get it so that's really really good yes okay so they're doing a good job with and I'll tell you at

074the Heartland CER Center certificate ceremony that they had this year because of of different situations last year Juniors and seniors they packed the house they were standing room only um that's not really um advisable um in a venue like that and so they reduced it to just seniors but even though it just was seniors there um it was almost a full house again so it's always really neat to see all the parents and family ands to come to support um those that are doing the things that they're doing there so that was really really good again so all right thank you superintendent report yeah I just want to share a couple things um obviously we just finished the school year the one thing that we always have to remember MSD of walber county is we

075do still have a school a white studor senior high school that will go through at the end of June they even start earlier than us so we don't really have too much time when there's not school going on we could talk about the bridge program too that they have a very small window when um that staff is not working during the summer and then of course we have summer school coming up next week starting June 3D uh that goes through July 3rd um some of it's R some of it's spark with the YMCA but that's some more summer school that's going on for different reasons um also just wanted to state that um just a reminder about graduation of course is this coming Sunday 2 o00 is Northfield 5:00 is at Southwood and then 7:30

076is wh Junior Senior High the bridge program and that is all at the Honeywell Center in the Ford Theater so this will be our second year that we've done it there I will talk to you gentlemen a little bit afterwards to see um your attendance to and all those different things also my text Mrs Lewis because we are in uh Regional now we want to congratulate uh the sectional Championship the Southwood girls softball team um her first text was better than her second text or her third text the first text was that we were ahead 40 but after five it's 4 to before there is a app called game changer that's actually live but you have to have somebody that does it live Courtney knows what I'm talking about and I didn't see anybody putting

077in live so I can't see the live so I guess I'll just wait till the next inning of course they play seven Innings so um I think we'll get ahead though I have a good feeling on oh did you get a new one well I've got one of my own feeds here too I didn't know you were doing that uh what's your score your better than mine because not so let's just keep it to ourselves who we play batting we're batting bottom of the six down one we have a double we have some on so so we we are the home team yes oh after six Innings Fremont has a lead five to four got all right so we keep that going let me see if I have anything else on my list here fast

078that's it uh another great year though 23 24 um really hard to say the next year 2425 W that just seems just unbelievable so it's great but we're looking forward to it a lot of plans still to come so okay appreciate it um Mr Drake you have anything yeah no not too much it's uh we're in the middle of summer school now right and so that makes me pause to look at all of those names on the appointment there are some really high quality people Wi on Bo like it's we always know we say it all the time I just about to people there are several names there that I know personally not just because m m is sitting here that she's phenomenal but there are several names there that are home runs home run

079hits and so I think that speaks to the to the community to the culture to the faith I mean to all of that we're in a really tough Market to find workers we're finding some people that I'm very proud of um and summer school is like that too summer school is like juggling 18 balls that are on fire because you've got spark and I and transportation and Southwood L and Shark Creek and like and so hats off to all the administrators that worked hard to put that together um I know it's really not even started yet but with minds and a to and so we got a lot going on I'll have more test results to share with you probably once we get towards end of July but all that stuff is wrapping up we

080have not got I results we have preliminary I results and so we've actually started the summer retest window and we've tested some kids even though the summer officially hasn't started we can test them during school year so we've had very good results coming back and so I'm pretty optimistic about it so all sat data AP data I lots of that stuff towards the end of July AUST and Chris will be excited because we'll be done with Esser funds soon and so I won't be pestering him and creating new things for him to spend more money on but those things are run and dry this year we have to spend by December so there's a good problem thanks all right new business have a recommendation to approve the extended overnight outof State trip for North High

081School students to England France Spain June 26 of 2026 through July 2nd 2026 so you can see that is a long ways off and so a lot of a lot of preparation uh fundraising um different things like that so it's not even next school year it's the following school year in the summer so two years from now recommendation Z moved second motion to second to approve the extended overnight out of state out of country we should add that out of country yeah we don't have how the country for North High School say I can you oppose where you one I think sometimes though the mind's in action you know Mrs Moore's going on some fantastic trips and maybe maybe like three years from now they'll be doing whoever's out of country a rainforest going to

082drive all the way down get that in going to start offering some training and so we can have some Pilots that can fly us there you go [Music] CD well they have some excellent trips you know she's already presented on those but real trips I just thought i' out just maybe is something to think about all right better not do that all right we have a recommendation to approve our food food to school purchasing Cooperative forward for 24 25 this next school year yeah so we've been a part of this group I don't know exactly five or six years now um and there's some stats in there that I thought's pretty phenomenal as far as what this group operates with uh you know you're looking at 95 Indiana school districts as part of that serving

083235,000 kids um a year so being a part of this group has helped us uh keep cost down especially in a hard Market um I was looking back since since um Co since the pandemic the end of 2020 um our costs this year per month have increased $11,000 in food purchases that's over 132,000 a year and so we've been able to do that without raising prices we haven't raised prices in probably seven or eight years um that doesn't mean we may not look at having to do that here shortly but to be able to do that um I think it's pretty um pretty amazing uh with the way things have increased so anyway as part of being a part of the co-op we just have to approve uh what the Cooperative has approved as far

084far as bids and contracts are concerned uh for this upcoming school year questions we got a motion of second to approve uh approv to school purchasing Cooperative all those in favor say I I opposed all right motion passes we got the first reading and review of the bridgeham book sorry um and Mrs Boon's going to do that and I have it all right here and so M have the FL this will be short and sweet so um I've highlighted just a few sections in our handb not much has changed really the main changes are just some updating and clarification of language for our students and parents to ensure that there's clear communication on the front end of enrollments and what the expectations are so on page four just clarified how our enrollment process is going

085to work and how students are assigned to staff who will be overseeing and facilitating um their education and on page oh on page five underneath our tier system of support we have done some a few things to try and improve the quality of what we offer our students we do struggle with a lot of attendance engagement issues um and so we have tried to ramp up our tiered system a little bit more to where there's quicker intervention on the front end of things to try and catch them early and then get resources in there support families find out what the barriers are to address that so again just clarify this to make sure that our parents know that if your kids not doing what they're supposed to be doing we're going to get involved quickly

086and then on page scroll quite a ways down with our treny we're always trying to improve how we address our treny issues um we have a lot of them just because of our the personnel and centel we serve so I just changed up the language a little bit to make it a little less threatening but also let them know that we are going to be contacting DCS probation and um the child welfare system law enforcement as we need to to number one ensure their safety if we're not hearing from them we need to know that they're okay and number two to make sure that parents are supporting doing what we need to to get kids in education and then just scrolling on down to nine and 10 pretty simple just updating all of the assessment

087the new assessment dates for our parents because we do stress the need that they they got to get their kids to testing it's state required we we need them to be present we can only travel so far with the few of us on staff so they need to meet us halfway my team does travel and we're opening up more sites now to go IV Tech has come alongside us and been a great partner as far as providing us with computer labs and things like that space for us to go and meet our kids but again we can only do so much regionally and kids got to come to us and that's pretty much it the only other thing that I did not spell out for parents is simply the new graduation requirements since we don't

088have all of that in black and white yet I just put a note a special note on page 14 that there are graduation new diploma requirements coming out so depending on where the students out when they come to us we may be talking to them about staying core 40 or staying on the normal track or looking at the second option that we're now going to be facing the diplom you have any questions for me and as there thank you just a reminder this is just the first reading we won't vote on it now but if you have questions between now and the next meeting you can um filter those through me and I can ask Tomy too but one thing I want to mention though Tanya does an excellent job of uh keeping our program

089to have Fidel Fidelity and also just it's a phenomenal program that she has created it started several years ago but yet we knew that when we have this Credit Recovery online program there's a lot of scrutiny along lines of other schools that have had situations and one thing we did not want to get into is any of those kinds of situations and she continues to do that by making sure that the students are doing what they're supposed to be doing and if they're not looking at ways to either encourage them motivate them to do better or um we have to dismiss them and she does a lot of work and making sure that all happens so really appreciate all the time and effort she does with the students that she has um you'll see a

090graduation um on Sunday um she's had over a hundred students uh that have RSVP uh for that um graduation um that doesn't mean that all be there there'll be some that won't show up and she has that that's why it's a little harder to uh to plan for that but um it's a lot of students and so I would appreciate all the work she does with that she usually has at least me tearing [Music] up I I will say that was probably i' had never been to one last year I was like okay I got to go to that one so every time so very appreciative of that program so I know we're not talking about that necessarily but it just goes along there with Tanya being here so all right right El Elementary is

091next M sure we just had some I'm G to go minimum updates for our elementary handbook besides updating the date and um the adoption date and the table of contents our biggest changes are updates to what we have in the student Camp up regarding preschool tuition and we're just really wanting that to be a little more syn um and what that r f so we removed what was in there and then just spelled out that preschool tuition fees are duing monthly installments 50% due by New Year and the rest do on by April 1 and then the process for know P for your preschool tuition as well as um assistance that's available on page 23 we removed we were trying to sh up um what makeup work looks like and how that process is you

092know how that's initiated so we removed it from attendance and put um information about makeup work when you're absent from school in the section about makeup work um so it's all together we also took out the information about if you have a pre-arranged absence in what makeup work it's no longer with the pre-arranged absence it's with the makeup work um and just kind of condense that to all be included and if you want your work because you school today here's what you need to do or you're missing for the three range absences all and all thank you m Mo for maybe next year we'll draw for straws and see if you get it again I don't know I don't know what meeting I met I don't think changes NE Mr ster all right and Mrs

093Johnson typically has done this or assistant principal at Southwood um she's obviously at the game I have not had any more updates Mr Drake M yeah I don't think we're batting bottom of the seventh but and threw the run out we have first and second so one out first and second and it looks like there may have been a Fly ball that turned into a double play what was the score what's the score what's the score five to four it says here after six Innings Fremont has a lead five to four so they would have so we're in the top of seven then us fatting I think we're in the bottom of the cuz we're the home home believe so I have great the greatest Scout but okay she's trying all right we'll wait for

094the final and I'm going through the whole um handbook here to get to what I need to get to and I guess I stalled long enough to get to where I need to go flipping through there so so we'll just mention some of the things for the high school handbook uh for some reason the word fog was out of when Den appears well it wasn't D appears but when D all appears so I don't know happened there um Mr Drake do you want to share um this was one of yours yeah the counselor just wanted to Skyward defaults to figure GPA out on the thousandth and so they just wanted to match what Skyward does by default and so when people look at it and they see it it's going to be by the thousand

095and so they they said that's why would we do the hund if that's what they a National Honor Society who basically going from the 9 to 9.5 GP yeah which would be more like a b to a B+ so that's that change um page 52 and 57 you can see all the changes uh as far as the TRC uh with the the changes there and that's basically what that is and that's really it and I want to give you another information I told you earlier that we would put anything in new law we would put in the handbooks but after we looked at like the cell phone policy and the new law basically what is written in our handbook is already what is in law and basically that is um no cell phones in classrooms

096but it is on a teacher discretion because there are some that want to allow that for different situations also there are other um situations like U medical situations and IP different things like that and those are all things that we already do so we do not have to make any changes to that the other thing was attendance uh so new law in Indiana code about K through six we will we're not going to put the specifics in there but those are some things that we have options for um if we have situations with kindergarten through sixth grade we do know that it was written in a way that's really cumbersome um but our um administrators and our teachers and counselors all work together um to assist with that but we do have some other options

097if we want to go ahead and use those um with the new Indi code just through K through six though um it's only K through six so again those are all first reading um if you have any questions um between now and the next meeting let me know because we would ask that you approve it then at the next so that's all I have on hand all right thank you guys for I don't think we have any Unfinished Business board policy public comment all items any comments items for board members good all right we're done
