algi in the prayer I pled Al to the flag of the United States of America and to the repic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liy and justice for all Lord Jesus I just ask that you might slow us down and quiet our hearts always amazed at the fact that when you were here that you never seemed like you were in a hurry that you had a methodical uh method about you that was relaxing and I just asked that that con s was over us tonight give us wisdom in our decisions Keep Us Safe in our endeavors in the next few days and give you thanks amen amen all right next board meeting won't be until November the 14th and then we have one on the 28th both those of November
of course and then December the 12 12 moving right towards the end of the year revisions of agenda we have one addition to donations one to HR and then one item of new business tonight under public recognition I'd like to have a recommendation and a vote to approve $200 donation from Harbor free for the southw high Junior Senior High School robotics mostly we have an $1,200 donation that consists of R Mass $600 Brian Evans 150 W bash County Sheriff's Department 150 Vander wall firm $300 and that would be towards Northfield wrestling second all in favor of approving say I I all right thank you School recognition Mr all right well tonight we have sharp Creek with us as far as our teacher the year and also our staff of the year and Mr Martin is
here also so I would like to first of all call up uh Tara Hopper if you would come up here she is our and and we talk about this the teacher of the year for Sharp Creek the 2024 U because it's always um at the end of that the school year and so when we do this each year um act after they look at um uh who actually from each School becomes the teacher of the year or the staff of the year they actually write something up to become look at to be the Indiana teacher of the year and so I want to just read a little bit about what uh Tera wrote and this question really was about um it was a narrative about our relationships about the environment in the classroom and one
thing that she just mentioned I really like it says in order to create a positive classroom culture where students can Thrive they must feel value um in my classroom this is done by building uh relationships with all students getting to know know my students beyond the classroom makes them feel valued and important that's just one small part of that but that's one thing that our teachers do and that's what tear it do too and so at this time as far as the staff Spotlight teacher of the year at Sharp Creek and also the elementary um District teacher the year Tara hord so let's give her a round of [Applause] applause so um our first Farmers Bank and Trust we always talk about them because they sponsor a lot of different things uh so you will
receive this is a $50 voucher for our online store so congratulations at this time I'd like to um see if Mr Martin would like to share anything else I just want to make sure that U I vouch for this is a very welld deserved honor for Tara U this is something and Kelly's will be the same that their peers their colleagues nominated them and then through a selection process of a group of colleagues they were our sharp creat winners uh some of the things written about Tara as people nominated her creative Problem Solver uh she embodies the mission and vision every day ethical honest trustworthy and she is uh rolls her sleeves sleeves up each day and does whatever is required to make her students progress and in my favorite she is a teaching superhero
um me personally I I think of Tara as being a very talented instructor both reading and uh and in ma uh she shows herself as somebody who's trying to improve herself she's had of the curve on new things coming down the the way from the idoe such as the science of reading and things she's she's already taking her own time to be uh getting an understanding for that reading a book when she gets the opportunity that that helps her be ahead of the curve uh so certainly appreciate that and I I also just summarized Cara as she shows a can do attitude and that's something that we need I don't believe I've ever heard her say that's not going to work or no we can't try that she's very open to what I believe School
needs to be it's very flexible so congratulations do you have anything you want to say any speech or I just love being that's you know I have I can't do what I do without the teachers Mr Martin um the my parents so yeah all right well thank you very much thank you and we'll call up Kelly Taylor um so Kelly if you don't know Kelly she um is now I think our official title is Health Service director um a lot of times we just say head nurse so she is our head nurse though across the whole entire District um and another interesting thing is she actually works with two schools um side by side but a lot of students um not only just the students at those two schools at norfield Junior Senior High School
and Sharp Creek Elementary but also overseeing the other three nurses um in our district so a very very big job she's had a lot of other jobs that prepare prepare her for this position so I just want to read one thing though that she talks about because um they do something different they don't have an Indiana state of the staff of the year but we still like to to do that with our teachers or with our staff and so the question is B basically why do you love your job at MSD and one thing that she mentioned said coming back to MSD of wers County was like coming home because it is coming home because it's where she came from it's fulfilling to give of yourself and service to the students in the school district
that you graduated from and so that just speaks volumes two of of being able to to actually pay back and and do those things that that teachers and staff did for her when she was in school when I was in school and then uh also helping all those students so again first farmers Bank and Trust let's give her a round of applause Martin um again Kelly honored by her peers for colleagues in our building um very well deserved I think of the word steady and consistent with Kelly and I mean that in a lot of ways but those are very important things to elementary students and staff and she handles adults and students well uh she professional she's kind uh she's empathetic when she needs to be uh she has the ability to be Stern
when she needs to be and all those fit very well for an elementary school building um couple of things that were written about Kelly by staff uh she does a wonderful job of juggling the huge responsibility local building and Corporation wide and I totally agree with that um she consistently follows up with students and cares for chronic uh issues they deal with she acts quickly and accurately in the case of emergencies uh staff members trust and respect her which is obviously very impressive uh she's always willing to help in any way she can I will say she covers a front desk at times you know on top of what she's doing as we need um she's always at school she's not taking days off just to be willy-nilly about willing to help with any issues
that might have pop up and I I truly appreciate that Kelly we're lucky to have you yeah I working in a school is awesome I think because you get the energy from the kids and I think the older I get the more I need that and so yeah and and I'd like covering the whole group too I'm not sad that I'm not doing PR school I think that might put me over the thank you and as always uh you're welcome to leave I know some of you have different things you need to do and so you're welcome to leave but thanks for coming tonight thanks just would want to stay I just have a few other ones that like to mention um as far as recognitions uh this one comes from a phone call that
I received parent Danielle I'll just use the first name called and wanted to recognize Mr J Snyder for the work uh he does with students he takes care of issues loves students and communicates with parents a lot of our staff a lot of our parents know that we do these kind of things as far as recognitions so it's always good when you have somebody just off the cuff that just calls and says hey I'd love to recognize uh someone and that's what she did and then Northfield Northfield uh senior volleyball player Josie Lynn set a goal to achieve 100 successful blocks by the end of this season and she accomplished that goal last week at North Miami now she's working to see how many over a hundred she can get so congratulations to her and
norfield also would like to say great start and keep up great work the two new North maintenance workers Jonathan Wakefield and Scott Hearn are both getting many things done and always looking for ways to make our schools look and run better we want to thank them also that's all I have from any public comment on the items on the agenda this evening if not I'll take a motion to approve minutes if you got an opportunity to Second all favor approval say I I all right clings AC all in favor of approving claim say I payroll nothing out orinary all in favor of approving payroll then uh Financial summaries that is end of the month balances for October or excuse me September we October now so these would be for September close with the month so
you'll be able to see where we are at the end of that what they're trying to watch moving [Music] around things are still good and Turing in the right direction nothing of concern or anything that stands out with those in month balances all right thanks Chris yeah next next item would be the 2024 budget adoption there's four items there if you notice we'll address each one and vot on each one that's their import yes that's that's fine uh you don't want me to go through the uh slideshow sure oh you didn't put it on there Kevin said go slow so yeah all we need to do is uh we need to make final approval of the 2024 budget along that are some entry items that go over that as far as the final approval for
the bus replacement plan final approval of the capital projects plan uh which both of those are on our or on our district website and then the um the form four is really kind of the approval of the 2024 budget that has to be S that want to jump in if you have question on any of these as we move through them we'll take a motion for a which is the actual 2024 budget to approve that budget second all in favor of approving the 2024 budget sayi no opposition the next item would be approval of the bus replacement plan so all in favor say I okay then we have the 2024 Capital project I motion is second on that all in favor say I I okay the last one for this section would be recommendation to

so those that's information I have back on my spreadsheet so it might be further than that but that's um excellent um also just want to communicate uh again about parent teacher conferences taking place on this Thursday there was communication from a lot of different schools also we sent something out from the corporation just a few minutes ago and also there's some professional development going on Thursday so there's no school School of no e-learning on that day and then of course fall break is next week uh for all of our traditional schools white Junior Senior High School will still have their Monday through Thursday so just a few things just to talk about but also just to celebrate um that count ADM count day and just to give you I guess a little comparison last year
at the fall count was 2140 this year's 2152 I won't leave you the percentages so it's basically 11 point something more students than last year good news thank you curriculum no nothing the reports okay items and new business I'm pleased to bring the first one before you that be approval of the 2023 2025 teacher contract I encourage you to familiarize yourself with that so that you have an understanding this was nice effort on both sides can I just mention then to and and Dr K Can U chime in to approximately $650,000 in new monies with that increases in salary Insurance retirement ecas um starting salary at 45,000 going up with the Masters up to 713 um also all teachers would get the 2,000 increase uh some will get 3 to 5,000 to get up to
that base um of $45,000 and a little bit of language change so uh excellent there's an opener uh for next year for salary um if that deems necessary so would just recommend that you approve that and ratify that contract that's why the date extends through 2025 take a motion to approve it was on last time yeah yeah we we had the hearing last it is on the website though under finances and real estate contract it has to be changed now though once you ratify it so because right now it's just a tenative agreement just a few more moment seconds all in favor of approval say I all right thank you next item under new business recommendation approve extended field trip for Northfield 8th grade that's to Washington DC in March of this coming year second
all in favor say I I last one be a recommendation to approve the extended field trip for Northfield senior class that's to North New York and that would be March the 9th to the through the 14th of this com so move second all in favor approval say I all right under board policy we have just a few things to look at tonight they're all first readings it would be the first reading of uh board policy 3160 being a repl policy and then the first reading of an additional policy 3165 which has to do with criminal history checks and then first reading of of updated replacement policy 5035 which is to challenge library media and other supplementary materials and process that that's to formalize so all of these changes are based on new Indiana code and
so these are recommendations from indana school board Association also our attorney Josh trinu H these over um to make sure that we're in compliance and so just ask that you have any questions though between now and and November 14th I guess we have a lot a lot of time to look over it again if you want to to ask questions U but these have been looked at um and there's not a lot of changes uh to what we've already been doing but there are just um some minor changes that we'll do that follows the code so like Mr ran said you can see um all of these one is a new one though because when we talk about applicants and contractors we actually had 3160 included those teachers that were um applicants and also regular
School Employees but this adds um contractors that we have which that's always been something that's um happened to but it's put more in language and separated out um from 3160 to 3165 and then the last one then um the challenges to library here again this is Indiana code um that we have to have this situation where they can be challenged and actually can actually go to the school board at some point um by following the chain of command and I know Mr Drake has there's a form that we've used before we'll continue to use that form if that's what we need to do so anyway if you have any questions between now and the 14th let me know on on that item there it bothered me at first starting down through that that it wasn't
reach the school board at some point but then at the final after goes through committee or Review Committee the big thing that is we're going to try to solve most of these like we always have parents can talk to the teachers parents talk to the principal like we work very closely with those and and so like if there's a book that somebody doesn't appreciate being assigned we we offer alternative things and our Librarians are very very conscious of our community standard and so as soon as somebody points out to something there's no need to go through the formal process typically we agree move the book so uh don't see this as us trying to complicate that this is just us making sure for some reason we get to that point it will happen that just
doesn't happen and really this change we haven't changed this at all from what was given to us from the school boards Association there's different criteria that would that would say that would be harmful to minors and all those different things that that would be pulled um and so yes just like Mr Drake said it would be nice um that we would have that solve before I get to you um but it just gives us the policy to follow okay on the new policy about criminal background checks on contractors and applicants that's the responsibility of the yeah well the applicants obviously is our applicants to our school but yes it's not the responsibility us the responsibility so we're cleared on liability side of correct and that's been going on for many many years I so we'll
address the vote on those at the next meeting any items from the public board members all right we're Jour 628 28 by the
