early on yes good evening if you join me with the pledge I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all right oh Lord Jesus just kind of quiet us down here for a moment and uh just want to acknowledge that school starts tomorrow are you aware of that we want it to be a special year and year that's great for our students and our staff help us to be sensitive to their needs to hear with our ears and to see with their eyes what we can do we just ask that we also be able to be a conduit for your love and uh your grades into their lives these things I ask for

the precious name future board meetings moving right along through August 22nd September the 12th and then September the 26th uh revisions I think tonight are limited to the HR public recognition we have a recommendation to approve the fifteen thousand dollar donation from Ford meter box company for schools academic programs and clubs and also recommendations are approved for 250 donation from Kingsview LLC David wrong for Salford Elementary preschool learning and early literacy we have a motion to prove those we always appreciate donations and especially one of the Ford Foundation does civil schools motion is second all in favor of the approval I I all right we have school recognition tonight um not tonight I'll share some other things that's Superman from hotel public comment I think we could move past that and move on to approval

of minutes from the meeting on July the 25th second all in favor say aye a little opposition claims if you've had an opportunity to review claims usually this time of year they Spike way up and it didn't seem to be as many I think we got that done [Laughter] so yeah I'm Motion in seconds on the floor for approval of the claims all in favor say aye all right payroll nothing really shared about payroll this is our second payroll of the fiscal year the next payroll will conclude the 22-23 school year pay and then the last one in August will be the first pay of the 23-20 course which we will see some increases in that do the classify races that we use included this spring and the staff changes payroll second motion the second

all in favor of approval say aye aye we think Financial summary there is just the end of the month cash balances so you can see where we sit at the end of July and each of our fund balances importance of cash balances if you want to address the education yeah so the education fund budget this is the preliminary budget for 2024. uh really you will see the increases caused uh just by the increases kind of salary and benefits that we have done over the past a couple of years not only with classified staff but with certified staff started to build up I've also included in their positions that we've been paying for out of Grants I know that the Esser Grant was a fund that we've been paying out of salary positions over the last

three years eventually that Grant will run out at the end of the school year and so some of those positions are integrated into this 2024 all those positions are integrated in this 2024 budget uh which obviously will determine what our staffing needs will be at a later point in time but all that is represented into this budget and so the increases are primarily salary benefits we did add a day reporting position in there that's something new that we haven't had we've always shared that in one cyber school districts as well as its own separate uh position housed by us and then the only other thing in there I highlighted in red is that doesn't really show up on our budget estimate but that is kind of what we budgeted last year for as far as

transfers from the education fund into the operation fund that will probably go up a little bit but that is nothing that is reflected in a budget as far as Appropriations are concerned and Dr Q mentioned the day reporting it's not just the day reporting as far as I mean that's one of the primary duties of that teacher but that teacher has special education license will be our continuing Services teacher which means that if we need some a short-term alternative education placement besides just the day reporting which is really the suspensions that we have done before he would do that and then also this position this teacher will also be a teacher for a special education for bridge students one of the teachers we have several special education teachers in that program but just another one

because of the need for that so when you look at that salary you're probably wondering about the day reporting but there's multiple uh duties of that that teacher so so what's the date report data where whites that way so again there's a building and I worked with Mr Ron Evans the CEO and their staff to make sure that we can house that there actually it was housed there at one time it was housed at an elementary before it was housed in the ounce program as a house that the old eigen tech building so it's been a lot of different places but now it's just our own for norfolks out really for grades six through twelve and the reason sixth grade is because we have moved them up and then that could be typically we're not

going to have that younger student if we get every once in a while in this situation that they may be placed in there for a few days for some accountability of their actions instead of like a formal principle foreign moving on to Personnel recommendations resignation Amy Powell bus driver paraprofessional jet Alliance paraprofessional Danielle Whiteman paraprofessional underemployment we have Rod Cole teacher at southford high school Melissa Clark paraprofessional Salford Elementary bus driver Tanya cellis paraprofessional Mary blykin paraprofessional Jessica florig paraprofessional Stephanie Fisher paraprofessional Paige Klingler teacher jummy Willard paraprofessional Heather Heiden teacher at southford High School Sherry Anna teacher temporary Southland High School then we have Kelsey nicom his junior high volleyball coach at Salford High School Jonathan Collins volunteer assistant cross country Southwood High School Casey Dyson fifth and sixth grade volleyball Northfield High School

Kenzie Griffin seventh grade volleyball Northfield High School Lori Schultz paraprofessional and transfers and Melissa Metz transferring to Superior professional from Shark Creek to Northville High School the one thing about my nails she'll also be a very professional not along with bus driving oh yeah it gets here I just did that yeah [Music] a second unfavorable approval say hi hi [Music] and we do just really appreciate the new staff and also some of our staff who have retired and help us out to come back and do some work for us so below that anything tonight but superintendent report yeah I just want to mention a couple of things obviously this time of year since you've already mentioned that in the prayer but school starts tomorrow and it's just amazing how much in preparation that everyone does

and we just appreciate all of our staff for that just to give you a little idea um administrators we had a basically something a little bit different this year to get all of our logistical things covered we met on a zoom last week and then that was so you know sometimes there's some travel situations that just take a little more time so we thought we'd be more efficient and do it that way I know Mr Drake and I were both principals we'd always talk about Central offices Central since I was at norfield I felt like it was a lot more Central than what Mr Drake thought it was so uh but that was always fun because you had to go across town but anyway but then also last Friday we had the opportunity to be

in a Global Leadership Summit that's something that is global so it's all over the country Chicago was the main hub for uh U.S but then there's also satellite areas and so we were just at Honeywell Center in Legacy Hall heard a lot of great speakers and that will motivate us and help us with some different leadership and things that we can all improve on and we'll talk more about that in our admin meetings also our bus drivers had a couple of meetings to get all prepared they're very very important stat members of course because they're typically the first ones that a child will see and so we appreciate all that they do and bring them to school safely and they're the last ones that see our students too so they've had a couple Millions custodial

meaning Mr Drake who runs the new teacher meeting for new teachers also just yesterday we had our opening day and we actually had a very interesting situation where we brought in the 2023 teacher of the year the Indiana teacher of the year to be our keynote speaker and she was a teacher at Southwood for two years uh social studies teacher and she actually that was her first experience as a public school teacher she did private school she did some other things prior to that and so it was really neat to have her come in and share and to motivate and talk about our district and and how our mission and vision kind of goes along with what she is trying to do as far as being an advocate for the teacher of the year for

0132023. her home is Bluffton and that's where she's teaching now and go up to high school so that's why she left us I think she really really really liked us Tim was the principal at the time I believe I guess um and she did not really want to to do that resignation but it just worked out well for her and she's doing great there loved it too so wish her well and thank her for the Keynotes and then of course which was already mentioned tomorrow big day was school starting so all the things that happened and all the preparation we get to see uh the results of that starting tomorrow so that will be fun and we're all going to go to different schools to see how all the transportation and the kids get off

to school there could be a lot of energy everywhere and hoping for good weather too I think it's supposed to be until maybe later in the day but I know I know it's always good to get fresh air during the day so I'm looking forward to a great start to 23-24 school year so that's all I really have for now I shared with you some information about college credits um we got our AP results in which led me to convert those credits at Purdue and so by my account we were at 2000 and 2008.5 college credits earned by NSD Wabash County kids most of those of course are Juniors and seniors for us and that is through a wide range through Heartland through our advanced placement throughout your credits through kids going to college campuses

and so I really appreciate our small school field where we meet kids kind of where they are and so I share that with you we did have a student earn the Indiana College Court even though we really weren't rolling that out until this fall but we're rolling it out now and I think a lot of parents have have heard about that and are encouraging their students can get that of course we should always keep in mind that colleges are not required to take those college credits for specific classes within your major you're entitled to those credits but they don't always transfer specifically to that and so I always encourage parents to look at specific colleges where they're going so they can see where those things match up so in other words if you get the

ICC you're going to get 30 college credits however they may not apply to the math or English or whatever social studies requirements your major has so you just want to be a good consumer and take classes uh or at least be aware of the classes you begin uh on the back of that on the second page the AP releases some distinctions and so uh since we are on Facebook and we're broadcasting out I'd like to read these names out um AP Scholars from last year this would be the May 2023 these students earned a three or higher on three different AP exams which is pretty impressive in some right Elise Adams it's the class of 23 she was a senior last year and graduated Carrie Collins class of 24 Derek Dieter and Cheyenne Stout all

AP Scholars who scored three which is kind of considered passing on three or more AP exams and then AP Scholars was distinction these students earned a 3.5 on all exams and they've taken at least five exams and scored three or higher of them this is Brynn Neely and Dakota Wilson and of course to get to that many AP exams they are seniors and Credit Unions so just very proud of their efforts and yeah yeah so I just want to make a little question yeah foreign new business this evening we have four items the first one is a requirement from Indiana code for me to open a public hearing before we begin formal bargaining with the teachers union so at this time I will open the hearing no comment I'll close again second item is a

recommendation to prove the McKinney evento District plan so let me just share a little bit uh the bikini Vito District plan really is very similar to the state plan we have a specifics of some of the things in our own School District Mr Mike McDevitt who is our principal of Weiss Junior Senior High School is our liaison for that I used to go through the training he has gone through that training now also and so this is our plan it's not a policy but it's just a plan that will be or it is or will be on on our website and just to let you know we do have uh some students that are considered homeless a lot of times when we think about being homeless we think about just not being able to you

know just be sleeping in a in a tent or someplace like that that's not necessarily what it means they can be displaced for different reasons they can be with other family members and so we have had situations where you know we have a fire for example of a home and they had to go move to a family in a different County even and if that's the case then we will be able to help them to continue with their schooling until they can get back to our school district unless they actually withdraw and go to a different School District so there are some costs that are involved with that too and we take care of that whether it's transporting them with our own school buses or actually paying parents to be over for mileage so we've

done that before and there's some other situations where it may be staying in a motel or something like that so it is something that people just want to make sure that we help those students in those situations and those families and this is just basically is the plan so I'm not going to read the whole plan to you because it's fairly long but it's something that we have been doing that we just need to approve it if there are any changes and so or just approve a period so I'll just ask that you approve the plan that has been submitted so here against our policy so it does have two briefings to certain point any questions now we'll take a motion to approve d segment all in favor of praying that mechanic into our district

plans AI all right third item will be recommendation to approve the adjunct teacher positions and permits for the 2023-2024 school year so the state of Indiana Department of Education now allows us to be able to hire adjunct teachers and positions and really a lot of it is based on them being in front of classrooms and teaching and so what this does for us it doesn't really change what the actual person that will have the permit to do but what it does is it allow it allows us to be able to count their actual salaries towards the 62 percent that were required to provide and they are for example the ones that we have or what we call classroom instructors so they will allow me called adjunct teachers there's a variety of things that we will

have to do with this but one is that we have to have the school board approved positions and permits which we'd actually do tonight and then there are other things that we will do internally with them but the spirit of the 62 percent with the teachers is to be able to educate our students and so our classroom instructors that we have right now are our three-year-old Preschool teachers and also those classified staff that are at whites who are in front of a classroom at White super Senior High School so again if you have questions entertain those but I just ask if you would approve this recommendation to approve the adjunct teacher permitting I'll second all in favor of approval say all right all right thank you item Four's recommendation to approve the requirement to inform

governing body that would be us regarding certain legal expenses a threshold of fifty thousand dollars so in Indiana code which is new starting January 1 I as the superintendent if required to inform you just like it says here of these legal expenses and the recommendation is that we would recommend the threshold of fifty thousand dollars I will tell you though that typically I'm going to tell you of any situations that might occur um and also you would know about them too so when we do bonding bonding costs can be pretty expensive but you will know about that you'll be voting on that I think some of this probably in legislation was enacted because there were some situations somewhere that cost a lot of money and the board did not know about it I don't know

if that's a situation but are turning their shaking his head too so I would think that that happened um and really it comes down to just the superintendent too so um as far as any kind of repercussions from that that would be on the superintendent so I will continue to make sure that you are aware of situations whether it's one dollar or fifty thousand dollars but we're putting that threshold because it says that we need to put a threshold so my recommendation is a threshold of fifty thousand dollars but I will continue to let you know if I have to talk to our school attorney about situations that's going to cost so so I don't believe me anything's final unless it's just being political and the public record absolutely promotion a second to approve the

recommendation for fifty thousand dollar legal threshold say aye all right all right there is no unfinished business listed or board policy public comment items from the board if not I think we'll return [Music] about 6 28.
