America and to the republic for it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all. >> So recognize our visitor >> and we're [laughter] recording and it will be posted to our YouTube channel. Um and we have to do roll call. So Julie here, Justin >> here. I'm here. Uh Jared >> here. >> And Terry is here. Here. Amanda is out and Bridget is online. >> All right. So, any adjustments to the agenda? >> All right. So, the first is super superintendent evaluation. So, we have was there you said there was two different types that we can do. >> Yep. And we need to kind of choose which one we want to use. And if you guys are going to do if you want us to do um the evaluation of the
leadership teams, you know, send out the survey to them like we did. We didn't do it last year because [laughter] >> the year before we did. >> Yeah. We don't get much back. >> We don't. >> We didn't really get a lot of >> a lot of >> still good to send out. Then you can say, well, >> at least we did. But >> and you guys want just to do leadership like we've I mean, we've done it both ways before where we just random picked teachers, but you know, not the teachers don't know the everyday things that the superintendent does like the leadership teams do. though which leadership would be Ally, Kaylee, Jamie, Dan Whitaker, Michelle, um, Black, myself, Lacy, and Aaron. So, you would have eight people that work. >> Yeah, I think
the leadership team is probably don't need to add teachers to it. >> I mean, I think the teachers probably give any kind of feedback to Jen. Yes. Sorry. Yep. Jen. So, nine of us. Yeah. Yeah. >> Oh, yeah. I forgot there is one that sorry J >> because you know there was issues with like teachers have problems they directly from their administrators correct >> all right >> um so we need to decide so there's two so the first one Katie is the eight standards that OSBA kind of we started with them years ago you know >> and then the other one was one that when I went to one of the trainings that one of the chief um other districts um >> kind of modified and made it a little more in simpler formed format,
but you guys just need to decide which one you want to do. >> Okay. Um, and then what we would probably do is whatever one you guys decide, we pick a date in like the next couple weeks that you guys have to have it filled out and sent back to me so that I can then get all the numbers together and then we present that in the February work session and then that way we can, you know, present that at the actual board as to what his evaluation looks like. >> Yeah. Yeah. I mean, we've always used the big one before and I think >> it is a little cumbersome >> trying to go through myself. I feel like it is myself. I'd rather use the short form. >> But how does everybody else feel
it? Uh, so there's the short form here. This is this is an example of the questions that will go out in the survey. >> It's going to be okay. So then the append or this >> I like I think we should go with this one because I think it it's more directed >> towards I think it's it's kind of more our district and not just a basis of like all districts like you can I don't know I just like the shorter one better that kind of is more to the point >> I think they get the same spot but one complete. >> Yeah, >> I've never been a fan of the other ones. So, the new one is great for me. >> Yeah, my questions look more straightforward to me. But >> yeah, >> more
>> I have been in evaluations before where there's not a little open-ended questions, more of like what went well this year? What what do you want to improve on next year? has the school district ever done any of that in So that would take Steve's, you know, perspective into account. Has a school district ever done that for superintendent evaluations? >> Um, I mean, not since I've been here. I don't >> I kind of do though with the questions where we picked the >> you wanted follow up on that later. >> That's kind of an annual thing. I mean, it's not the same, but it's similar. [clears throat] >> I mean, it's a good idea. It's good for recap it all into one thing. >> I mean, that's the kind of benefit of this style, too,
is we can add to it. >> So, if we wanted to add a your thoughts and goals for next year or things like that, you know, want to change. I also realize I'm new. So I you guys know a lot more about what Steve is doing on the dayto-day and throughout the year than I feel like I have as much background knowledge as you guys do. I feel I I don't want to miss anything. >> Yeah. So >> do we want to use this one and then just add one >> add something to it as like your comment, you know, like comments for >> well comments maybe put >> to the good or to the you know if you have something that you feel like needs to be >> addressed onto that specific >> Yeah.
has fallen. So check >> Well, I don't want to create damage. >> No, I don't think it's going to be single. >> It doesn't I mean, so when you fill it out and have a comment on, let's just say staff and and personnel relationships. So if there's a comment um or a question to that you want me to answer that would be you know to answer too that that would be something that that I could do. So you know if you had you had a question specifically which which could be a comment uh or or a question if you had that specifically then then I could you know then I could respond to that. So that would be easy >> right >> that would be that's not a problem. And maybe just for basis for
you because like I realize but when you're scoring everybody individually scores I'm only seeing it. >> Okay. >> I see it and I take everybody's scores on a specific one and I do the average. So because the board speaks on whole not just under individually. So if everybody scored a five but one person scored a two it would be a five because it's the majority. And then at the very end after we go through everything, if there's anything that Steve wants to rebug or say, "Hey, no, I did do that or this or this," you guys can change those. And then at the very last, then you guys write a little just that comment that then gets read at the actual board meeting >> that gets read to the to the everybody. >> It's a
statement that's saying, "Hey, he's done a great job and we're, you know, moving forward with keeping him on blah blah." And then um that then gets recorded and goes into this personal file. So that's kind of because the board isn't in you're not voting on an individuality. You're actually all >> we do it separately. We don't have like >> Nope. You guys need to go ahead and send it to me. I kind of calculate all of the numbers together and then I present them to you guys at the next at in February and we'll do a work session again and then Steve has the right to go into an executive session because these don't have to get read out into the public >> if they if the superintendent chooses to and then some a lot
of superintendents just say just read it. So that's kind of what the next one would look like >> and kind of your scoring tells him whether do you think he's doing a good job or not on any particular area >> and then I would present to you guys as soon as like so I thought if I gave you guys two weeks to get this back to me I'll send out that survey and then I'll send you guys out an email that says this is what it looked like in the scoring of the um leadership and then when we come back I just present that you guys won't I mean and it's anonymous I send that out anonymous I don't even know this story. So, >> okay. Okay. >> Okay. So, think we're going to go
with the the short form. >> Okay. And then what's what's two weeks? We want to give we can use the weeks. >> 26th. >> Monday the 26th. >> All right. So, we'll say we get these back to her by Monday the 26th. Yeah. >> Mhm. >> And if you guys will um you can either scan them and email them back to me or put them in an in a folder and drop them off either to Maple at like Chant when you'll find like if I'm not there. But if you guys, you know, if you have to do it in person >> or send one of your kids in a folder, not too [laughter] leadership have their stuff to me by that same time. >> Okay. It's, you know, quality is perfect. So, [laughter] all right.
And then one-year extension of superintendent contracts. I I'm all for that. >> Any discussion? >> What's that? 25 26, right? 26. Like, wait, wait. [laughter] >> So, so we've been just going one-year contracts. um that you know so it's never we've never formatted the three-year contract which I didn't want anyway so I really want to fulfill what I what I'm doing um and having talked to Katie etc um I'm more than willing and able to do next year um and then again I I will tell you um if I have if I know that I'm going to be done um I will I will say that in October so that we can start the jury process uh for the for the replacement situation and like I already told Katie that's going to be dependent upon
I mean there's going to be some major restructuring um when I leave um to to because either either you're going to go full-time or you're going to go 6 I mean one of the two right so that >> and what are you >> I'm 6 >> you're 6 over >> um so that decision is going to have to be made before you even start the process of where what road we're going down right and I'll and I'll help you through that process um however if you want me to um not the search but but um the re the restructuring of um and so that's that but like I said it's it's a tedious process um it's like right now someone's you know they went to the national bank so to to the national service they're
paying $35,000 to go through that process which is just to me is a huge amount of money um to do something like that um but that's what people are doing now to to find to find what they want to find without >> you know [clears throat] Yeah, >> there was not a lot. >> Yes. So, so I'm just saying so prior to that, >> I don't want to drop and I'm not going to say next February. I'm not I I I'm not going to extend another, you know, we all know we need the earnest stuff. >> So, I would I would, you know, I'm not going to say you can't we can't renew the contract off field if I know I want to do that. Um but and it's something I that I'm considering uh
because I want to make sure I get through the next, you know, that we get through the next process and I'm really worried about the I'm really worried about the um consequences of maybe the new buyment of of dollars. Um so I hate to have I'd hate to have any superintendent come and have to cut. That's just not fair to me. It's just not fair. And and I I have no problem cutting um done it before. So that's it's one of those things where you have to be um I know it's it's not it's very political um but it causes a new person a lot of heartache that they really right and to a situation where you're not liked already. Um, so that so I would be and that's so I would when we see
what's going to happen a year from now then then then I will consider what you know what really needs to be done. Um, and and if it's going to be that huge shortfall which maybe it's not going to be um maybe it's just going to you know maybe there'll be a continuum but maybe if there is a huge shortfall then the district's going to have to be restructured anyway. >> The the betting lines probably show a shortfall >> I think so across the nation. I think so. And I and that and that's I've said it's problematic, but it also that it's I I I just hate to have someone come in a newbie >> and just start cutting heads. You know, I went through that process in 2001 here. Um what they brought a newbie
in just to do that. Um ju just just to actually cut heads. Um he lasted two years and was gone. Um but that but they knew that they prior, you know, they knew that that's why they hired him. Um and and I you don't want to hire a head hire. Um you want to hire someone that's going to be here. So, I just, you know, just going down that road. Um, we'll just continue to do what we're doing right now. >> And where will the status of the Maple Middle School construction be? So, that would be your committee. >> I'm hoping that we will have construction completed by next fall. >> But, >> if if it's not if that doesn't fulfill >> like this coming fall of 2020, >> right? Exactly. The construction this this
project will be done this summer. >> Okay. But it's very possible that they don't get to do they don't do exactly all the amount that they need to do, which means I would reapply for another seismic to finish up that job. Um, and I know that uh that Myrtle Crest has not had a seismic. It's time um that that building be, you know, be looked at also. So, so those processes u will start this one and then go from there. So, we'll see what happens. As of hopefully September, whatever. Um, that we'll be done with one and and being able to look. >> Do Do the funds go back then if the work's not the contract work's not done? >> No, they have to. >> It's just that it's just that we may be in
school while they're completing project. Yeah. Yeah. No, they have to complete the project at the at the x amount of dollars that they have. >> Yeah. Okay. So the additional would be new found >> would be the additional would be if they can't do the entire building what they think you know that might be a two-tiered sit you know situation um they currently they think they can >> but if they can't then we would just reapply which they do and say hey we're going to do we're going to we're going to continue the process or complete the process um and maybe maybe it doesn't include the entire thing and and they need to you know tie down some some more things for the site. Is that common? Um maybe 15% common. I mean it it
happens. I know Oakland had to do double. Um and so they it's not like they don't the job is not it's just not completely seismic updated. So they and they so had to complete that. >> But theoretically they've done a good job of the original survey and they know what needs. >> Yes. Yes. Absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. >> But Myrtle Crest probably needs >> Yeah. And I think that would be the next one because this building's had it. So I think my crest has it's an old building also. So >> I mean if we can get grant funds to do capital improvements. >> Yeah. Before it's fallen down. >> Yeah. I mean red and yellow like they >> I mean and and the gem cafeteria complex is one that that that's one size of it. That
doesn't that that would not include wings. That is just one size in itself. So >> right it would be a multi >> sooner the better talking talking 40 year down the road started. >> So yeah so that that would be part of like I said that would be part of the extensions that would be that I that I would be considering here. >> [laughter] >> All right. So, we need to go into executive sessions. >> We don't have to since we kind of already talked about it all. All right. >> EOPS, not he said not to. >> Yeah. Okay. So, any other discussion about the super evaluation checkin? You have any any questions for Steve? All right, then we will convene this work session. >> We can just place one out here. >> Yep. >>
So, we're doing the one that joint five page. Is that right?
