004on an abbreviated school day and really just focusing on his core classes and he has now started at a full day back at school um he's adding in a lot more academic classes and um he's very much um adjusting very well to the demands and the rigors of the general class um despite the significant change Julian has approached the transition with determination and an open mind I think it might have took a little bit of nudin to get him uh back to a full day but but he's here with us every day um so over the past semester Julian has made tremendous progress both academically and socially his confidence has grown and he now engages comfortably with his peers and his teachers um this growth has been especially evident since transitioning to a full day

005um where he's taken on additional academic responsibilities and has really been dedicated um his teachers have noted an impressive impressive Improvement in math where he now is grasping key Concepts and actively seeks help when needed um in social studies sounds like he's demonstrating um a really deepening interest in his diving deep into some of his assignments and really starting to take some pride in his work so beyond academics Julian has become a positive presence in the school Community he takes initiative in the classroom um he's been observed on multiple occasions uh staying organized he helps assist with materials um he does things like puts you know helps clean up the classroom put chairs away and that sort of a thing all contributing to a respectful and supportive learning environment um he's definitely growing in his

006sense of responsibility and enthusiasm for Learning and is all contributing to his success at school um Julian is my most improved student for the first semester at s middle school and that's lot right almost 300 kids um so it's been inspiring to witness his transformation over the last few months since September and we're really proud to have Julian and be a part of our school community so congratulations Julian good job to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands nation under God indivisible with liy and justice for all jul Julie come on up here I have a certificate for you jul come this way we got a certificate and they're going to get picture good job man keep it up that's for yeah here I'm gonna there

008counting not that I'm counting okay um and for sports basketball's heading into the final round of League games next week which will determine which teams make it to State I know they were super excited for the win last Friday and that was a really exciting game and this Friday they take on sou unqua and the cheer team will be performing at halftime and then wrestling has districts this Friday and Saturday I believe Saturday is girls and then only the top four in each bracket will qualify for State competing against 41 different teams in the 1A through 4A division and for our next and by our next meeting spring Sports will officially be in full swing including golf track and field softball and baseball and I know track has like 71 athletes I think interested which

009is a huge number they're really excited for um for school events last week was National National School counseling week and we wanted to give a huge shout out to our amazing school counselors for all that they do a special thank you to Mr or who has been a huge help to the seniors as we prare for college and other opportunities and then the junior class wrapped up their valram fer this week they sold roses and rice krispy treats that are delivered tomorrow during pry and then on February 15th the sophomore class is hosting the redart HP and sophomore class president Charlie Johnson is leading the event and it's looking to be a really cool night for everyone um on some cool things in classes Sarah man's elective students have the exciting opportunity to participate in

010a CNA program at the school and at the hospital this semester and by the end of their program all the students will be eligible to take their board exams to become certified CNAs um for clubs NHS recently held a community movie night and it was a great turnout for the first fundraiser and we are now preparing for the upcoming induction ceremony with some new sophomore jior applicants to to join the club and intera Club is focusing on the International Fair efforts and getting ready for the annual rotary auction and then Project Graduation um they have the most senior class fish fry it's an all you can eat fish and chips night with raffle prizes and that's on March 5th from 5: to 7 and reach out to any senior you know for tickets seniors are

011also um hosting a child care night on the same night as freville that Boys and Girls Club is putting on and it's $40 per kid including dinner dessert and crafts and then finally you um the seniors are currently in the middle of senior assassin and if you see any students or seniors walking around with floaties or goggles don't be alarmed it's just part of the game um each participants assigned a Target and they have to eliminate them with a water gun and the floaties and goggles keep me safe and it's been a fun way to bring all the seniors together for one last Bo Activity thank you and I especially appreciate that last little bit because that explains a lot of what I saw this past weekend with another senior I didn't know why she

012had floaties on her arms during the wrestling tournament so now I understand and I appreciate that I cannot even count how many coaches came up to me and said Kelly I think you're in the wrong sport you expecting high waters okay CH okay so so now things make sense okay um moving on uh 2.6 approval of agenda superintendent okay uh item uh 02122 5- 2.6 approval of the agenda superintendent board chair Vice chair meet to prepare the agenda the agenda one week prior to the board meeting I business may be suggested by any board member staff member student or citizen of the district by notifying the superintendent at least five working days prior to meeting any changes to the agenda must be approved by majority vote and Administration recommends agenda approval of the agenda excellent

013thank you uh directors any any questions or comments on this this item and if not a motion is in order board chair the resolve that we approve the agenda resolution 02122 5- 2.6 approve agenda oh Jos Okay resolution 02122 5- 2.6 approve agenda motion made by director Barnett seconded by director hly um any discussion on the motion those in favor hi hi um quick little side note before we move on to public comment um has Katie joined us yet yes okay um Katie chime in chime in whenever um if I if I'm forgetting that you're on on Zoom just unmute yourself chime in and thank you for joining us we'll do thank you um all right moving on to 3.0 the uh public comment um just a quick reminder I think we do we have

014any we supposed to have another one but okay show that all right um okay so uh just quick comment um or quick reminder about our public comment we have the civility policies um to keep um keep things appropriate and then also if there are specific um concerns with programs um to address those concerns but not individuals by name um prior to any any potential action needed and we'll try to keep it to about uh three minutes or so um I'll raise my hand with just one you know the three minutes is is we got a little bit of wiggle room there um but this is uh Brent Nichols and uh Brent you're up and and please remember to uh project and go and hello thank my name is Brent Nichols although I teach at the

015high school I address the board as a private citizen EMB bolded by the example of one of our students who is Bravely appealing to this body in spite of opposition although with all our teachers so I trust I also support the right of all students to challenge the prevailing majority culture regardless of whether I personally agree with the students's position given the prevailing policies in Oregon and this District that emphasize LG lgbtq inclusion it is of no surprise that an initial email attempted to Rally LGBT supporters against the complaintant on January 31st like everyone else on the certified Union list I received an alarming email that invited persons who were quote passionate about intellectual Freedom First and 14th amendments and attended our intellectual Freedom training hosted by the State library of Oregon in quote to

016address the school board on this Friday excuse me on this February 13th medeia there was a student who was opposed to the quote autobiographical Suicide Prevention story of a multi-racial lgbtq youth in quote and was also opposed to quote the presence of posters representing people of color in the shs library as well as any lgbtq books on display end quote that email provided details on how to address the school board about 3 days later the initial accusation was later clarified so that I now believe it has nothing to do with the 14th Amendment nor bias against the lgbtq community on February 7th staff were advised not to speak to the board about a book challenge which had not yet been made public we don't want to appear as if we were lining up against a

01717-year-old boy in both Communications the implication was that teachers would be opposed to book Banning considering the general climate of our district that is is a reasonable assumption it is also noted that in that same staff meeting that regardless of one's political stance the student is recognized for his courage indeed even if this student is unsuccessful in his appeal he should be applauded for exercising his right to stand up for his convictions it is rare that a student rises above the tendency toward political apathy of his generation and especially when bravely speaking out against the majority narrative I also applaud the process C of our district that allows a decision of an appointed Review Committee to be appealed to the decision of an elected board members regardless of the outcome I thank this board that

018all students regardless of their stance feel empowered to engage a meaningful discourse without fear of dismissal or misrepresentation on action item 6.2 you will be asked to advance the students appeal to be heard by the board I urge you to vote yes thank you thank you you had seven seconds left you good yes sir thank you Mr Nichols we appreciate your uh your your voicing that thank you um okay directors moving on uh 4.0 uh special presentations and programs we have uh from the lane ESD uh Tony uh it's skuro right correct okay and Norah Kent is is present with as well yeah go ahead and join us at the table just so that you can since you're going to be talking a little longer than than uh well actually you got you got three

019and a half minutes ready uh so so this is here to uh uh they are here representing Lane ESD to discuss the local service plan so superintendent you have anything first or this all this is kind of our followup from last meeting uh talking about uh local service plans so if you have any questions it a good time to ask them uh that's before we get to item 6.1 excellent well thanks for the opportunity for us to be here tonight uh as you know chair Tony my boss one my bosses nor Kent board member who represents you know so first of all I just want to know if you guys have of these we we had these last week and uh I I don't have mine in front of me I'm reference things so um

020one of the things I wanted to point out I guess to highlight is what what what you're getting now and that is the copy of the uh proposed local service plan for 20025 to 2027 and so the way we do things the way we do things thep is that um we are asking you to take action on this plan that would start in the 25 26 school year so we're making an action now in the winter uh but we're looking for just to actually start in the fall and it notes on the front page that this is year one because typically we put together twoyear plans even though we have to come to you annually or ask for your approval annually um the plans usually set up for two years so we have some consistency

021sustainability uh I those of you that have maybe received this in person before may know that this is a lot thinner um you've gone from 40 some pages down to about 11 and that was uh conscious and by Design and by design of our superintendent Council um we started taking a look at some other esd's local service plans uh we asked our superintendents what they were thinking in terms of who the audience for this would be and then trying to figure out how to put some features in maybe that were missing even though we had 40 pages before there were some features that we did have in there that we now have in here so with that um our superintendent figured that the probably the main audience that this plan would be for would be

022for schoolb for themselves and for school board we don't get a lot of community members coming into our ESD asking to see the local service plan maybe they will now it's not 40 some cases but uh that's great we're okay folks to have those um but we think this explains the same services that we have but it does in a little different format and what we heard from superintendents that they thought board members would also like to see is where where does the money for the services come from without actually listing the amounts in here because we don't quite know those we but where does it come from and so if you start on page four uh the services there that are in beige are what we call our core Services every service you see

023there on those beige highlighted services are what all 16 District in Lane County pay into what we call the core everybody pays in for the core and what you'll see I don't know if you see it what we do know is this local service plan will have I think around 133% of the services that are going to be in the court when you go past the core you get page uh six that the orange highlighted regions show what we call our menu service items Flex items not every District buys every one of these things districts can choose off this menu the things that they need to help their District move the DI in special education or in some cases in certain other um perhaps uh services that that that district is be able to stand

024themselves B for us to do it and you can see that we have more of our services that are actually menu item Services then there's actually uh on page three it names some custom service or it names the opportunity we have to offer custom services but it doesn't say what those custom services are we need to mention that local service plan because in the middle of the next school year the school year after we may have a district comes up with a an ask and we'd be able to put something together and without naming it we can still call the customers together about and we have seen that in the past some of the custom services that we' run for districts have become in many service items one example and you have your own librarian

025but many of our districts don't and so we started Library services customer service and now it's part of the and then the um the other thing I want to point out is the the biggest part of what we do comes in the form of Grants and contracts we get grants through the uh through the federal government get grants through the state government and uh also contracts through both and if you look at the T totality of our budget 35% of what we get comes from the state school fund we're in the state school fund as you are as a school district all esds are going do as well but 65% of our total operating budget comes from these grants and contracts so it's that's a pretty value districts C uh we have listed our grants

026and contracts in there that we currently have but these do shift and change little bit depending upon when expire any service plan or when we get them on board so it might look a little different next year than it looks this year that be change so again the biggest change really is the format and hopefully it's a little easier to figure out and to see which services are funded by everybody which ones money the other thing that did change is that we added to core Services what we call our lane Career Academy um right now we are operating a construction manufacturing program known as The Hope Factory that's a collaboration with st V huls in downtown Eugene and 11 actually 13 of our 16 districts have students seniors who are attending now either on a

027half day uh Monday through Thursday or on Friday and what we're doing next year is expanding that so that we'll also have emergency medical services and fire safety as part of the Career Academy the idea there is students will be working in their own District during this most most school days and there will be I think 10 to 12 field days where students from all districts will be uh getting uh Hands-On uh training from our fire and safety through rural fire departments as well as the build Fire Department standing so that's one uh another part of the ler Academy and then a third part of it would be uh we receed some grant money to do some deeper Health occupation planing and so that would be something that we also see students doing some things

028perhaps in their own District that might line up very closely with student rep talking about that today with the CNA opportunities for kids making sure that's expanded throughout the the whole l c so what was decided in terms of the link Academy was to take what we're doing now is each district pays a slot cost for the student who participate in the Hope Factory and looked at the expenses for the whole program and move that into the court so any student participating next year in uh whether it's the Hope Factory whether the eer Emergency Medical Services or health occupations uh the district's already paid for that going local service so we won't be sending a bill say there's 10 to 15 kids in that we W charging for kids uh that's it took some time

029to get there but I think that's a real benefit for a lot of our middle and small size districts uh a lot of our a couple of our larger districts we're looking at it and seeing how it might benefit them in some cases it will but in some cases they also are putting more into the core but understanding that's kind of the contribution to as a larger District so good cooperation on that now when we put more in the core that means there's less for districts to spend in their Flex allocation and so to offset the core uh the amount we put in the core we took out of the core what we called our Innovation fund and so uh that's something that's been on hold so those are the biggest changes I think financially

030that you see in this time a big entry to the core and then removal of in addition to that all the other services we had listed in most 40 pages are most of them are still in here and uh we uh we look forward to continuing to run these Services we are in the process of putting together also uh kind of District byd district reports this is something we may have hope before next winter something we do this spring we're looking to do some visits coming out to meet with districts individually as we bring some of our teammates out here to the school district and other 15 districts in county and start really looking and assessing the quality of what we what we're doing and that's something we want to put together kind of a

031a one pager that you can look at to see okay well here's the services we're using and here's some things you're doing that's the idea we're looking for with that I don't know that I have much more to add about it um just glad to be with you guys I volunteered at at the Ruby Bridges walk to school day I just sort of walked on and yeah you can we those kids and uh went to the Hispanic culture St M the other night and that was wonderful and we're hoping to I'm hoping to do the tour of the uh CTE services in Mapleton and sausa but then that bus comes over from tomorrow morning so we're hoping Tony's gon to be back anyways great to see all of you I'm really pleased that we have

032this slim down userfriendly gu hi now for all of you and the community members can even understand it a little bit better thank you so we're here to answer questions too you might have and ask we best answer okay um hang tight because we'll we will ask our questions during the 6 point the 6.1 um uh item number uh unless there's any quick little discussion that we have right now no okay um all right so thank you and sit tight okay s here yeah yes sit there for a little bit um and the more you move these things will focus on you instead of all of us so so you're you're the the main attraction um all right uh thank you for that presentation uh Tony let's directors let's move on to 5.0 the consent

033agenda uh superintendent okay uh consent agenda consent business get to my item here uh 0 5.0 uh this month's consent agenda contains the following items uh your January 8th 2025 board meeting minutes uh January 2025 financial statement uh monthly enrollment update uh policies that have been moved to the consent agenda Family and Medical Leave domestic violence and safe leave Paid Family and Medical Leave insurance uh and Si time as well as an update to the accident and or incident rep Administration recommends approval of the consent agenda as presented if there's individual item that would like to be the board like to carry out we can do that as well okay directors any uh comments or concerns or questions on this item not a motion would be in order board chair uh I move that we

034approve the consent agenda as presented resolution d5.1 0825 5.0 right page 02122 I think that's part that's last yeah that's oh God okay sorry my bad that explains all right present agenda 02 1 2255.80 21225 5.0 consent agenda motion made by director Barnett the pro and seconded by director pimot um any discussion on the motion nope okay those in favor I director SN yeah director sneden if I if I don't hear you is that a positive or should we should we wait to hear from you as well he may have it looks like she dropped down okay okay all right so well well too bad Katie even if you vote no you got out voted but for the consent agenda I would assume since she was participatory in putting these things on the consent agenda

035that we'll just presume that we were unanimous thanks Katie appreciate your support okay um moving on now to uh to 6.1 okay uh item 0 21225 6.1 L ESD 202527 local service plan year one second reading so as required by OS 33475 land Education Service District has developed a local service plan the process in in developing this plan included analysis of all resolution and core service offerings available to component to component school districts the 202527 local service plan one was developed in collaboration with component District superintendents Lane ESC administrators and staff and reviewed and approved by the lane board of directors on January 7 2025 local service plan contains all services mandated by law local service plan services are intended to improve student learning enhance the quality of instruction provided to students assure Equitable access

036to resources and maximize operational and fiscal efficiencies uh the board of directors of school district has completed their annual review for this LD 202527 local service plan year one which includes services for uh instruction equity and Partnerships the school Improvement piece technology administrative and support and custom Services uh Administration recommends the board of directors approved Lane ESD 202527 local service plan year one okay uh directors any discussion on this item and this would be the time to um answer questions about it and I will I will preface this by saying we had pretty good discussion on this last month and Andy did a good job at least answering my questions for me so we'll see how many more we have so if you don't have a lot don't take it as you gave a thorough

037it was more on Andy a thorough explanation last no and the one question I could have answered better uh because again it was at the table time was um Courier Services uh Lan Courier comes through once a week they go from the high well basically LCC uh all of the high school and then to the public library and besides my comment about when I was a teacher I would send materials and notes back and forth to other teachers that I knew um again a lot of what they do is um uh special ed records back and forth uh General records between schools uh and Library materials between our library U ofo and LCC so some of our Advanced students in uh the college classes are getting direct hard coping materials from you of a loone

038library delivered through Courier Services um I can't say that we have data on something gets picked up every week at every school um but it's used enough that again I I think we broke down if we paid somebody to drive back and forth you know twice a month it cost more than we're paying with the collective because we split this cost with Mapleton and all the other districts so again like I estimated it would probably be over 7 Grand a year to make two trips I think it was a month and maintaining this service is like 6,000 right now I know that was again if we could do it cheaper we would kind of like we did with special ed services but um and with the volume and the and the frequency I think it's

039a decent value okay um we'll we'll just I'll go around the table a little bit uh Diana do you have any questions for Tony I don't or Nora no I don't have any questions okay I'm gonna go this way Sheamus do you have any questions about this Cali CC I won't be out you got any questions I don't I spent time with Lan SD this um last two days at the conference so I've got to work with Olivia and she's great great presenter for finance so yeah we just all spent a lot of Education okay Mor um under the first thing here it says instruction Equity could you explain Equity a little bit what that entails entails quite a few things but um start with the the size of the district for one um a

040district like Eugene 4J has their curriculum Department um Mableton doesn't have curriculum Department one person so it starts with that it also starts with just ensuring that every student has the supports they need that we're helping districts make sure or students who maybe aren't quite achieving at the level they want achieved so AR focused on on that so it runs the gam those things okay thank you excellent John yeah I just had a good question you mentioned Tony that um 65% of your guys's budget is based on federal and state grants what's the split on that is majority Federal ored makes up maybe we just business confence so I probably should know this a little bit maybe between 15 and 19% of that okay and so the rest comes out it's more far more heavily

041coming out of the state department and again their their feral portion is more with special services special support that that but it also I mean our title so yeah it's a smaller number but it's still still could be a sign significant number is there any concern with at the the federal level with different um GR being frozen Ian imagine title and special education there odds of things like that getting slowed down are probably slow to none but just out of curiosity true and that's where kind of learning in the last couple days that what it might take for the funding to to stop it's something that it's going to happen overnight it's going to happen and then unlikely given that the the money that's going to support the students is going to support is still

042would be fairly popular so um we're we're kind of keeping an eye on things but right now I'm not concerned for next year's budget that we're going to see things right away okay but it it still could still could happen I mean we are paying attention because again like with Marine's question when we talk about Equity especially with funding we're talking about maintaining services for a free and appropriate public education for special ed students and low poverty students and that's where again Title One is our support for poverty Services intervention uh we've got other things that like we can't do as an individual District because we don't have a big enough population um so ESC coordinates some of those title services for um like uh language education we may employ a teacher but the primary

043administration of that service comes from L and we do Consortium reporting back to the feds on how many students are in English language development classes okay the ASD also is Grant support is part of their for and we're part of 21st century um Grant which um takes care of our um after school program so it's quite a vital piece to have and I know you've all seen my pisk of OD reports um and I would say there's probably a good half of that where we meet once once or maybe twice like every three months to to knock out some of the bigger the bigger portion for for OD um and so part of there is a lot of um kind of we call it restruction of uh reduction of administrative burden which is they gather

044a lot of the data um that we need from all of our various sources and then we compile it and use that for our spending plans for Sia HSS we combine that with our local notes um to kind of put forward that best the best practice and plan for that material okay I think that was part of something I mentioned maybe a couple years ago that was coming it's arrived now we have some coup people doing this shout out M feedback and things are working that sounds like good anything else oh yeah I had another question yeah go for back to the the career service you is that a minute ago that we use that a couple times a month is what you were kind OFA we have again we have four every Tuesday but

045I can't tell you who gets picked what gets picked up in each building at any given week they come through we've got a there's an exchange of the gray bin back and forth um but typically it's one thing from every school every week every week okay yeah then that math makes sense yeah okay if I was hear a couple times a month and I'm hearing $6,000 I'm going I'm going there's a private Courier that can do that way cheaper than what what we're getting charge but if it's every week in multiple buildings and multiple locations that they're going to then all a sudden that math makes a lot more sense so that was my other question the other thing is are some of the CT instructional kits and additional lab kits that get shared between

046the county that's another piece that I know Mr gets kits on a regular basis that go through uh some of the specialty like uh science models because we don't use a lot of live or preserved Fantom anymore so any of the replica materials are um from medical grade stuff are contained at the ESD insur amongst all the other District okay yeah so there's a it's it's it used to be the film Courier Service [Music] you could order a 16 mm film my favorite was ble be the scrier only only because it had a young young red Brady in it right again that was just something like we would watch on a Friday together staff memb going well we're getting back on our M but here's Greg Brady playing so again like it used to be

047a lot of films and materials back and forth a lot of that's been digitized but uh there are just some learning implements that they store and transport us sense and we're one that time there a couple ders one so the driver okay Jos covered it I do have um one comment on the menu Services the behavior disorder Consultants that I I miss looked that in the last review but is that something that we already take advantage of um because that's certainly something that was in ask at last year's budget input session at the elementary school we use the full-time psychologist that we've hired and and um and we do get some part-time Behavior it's not a full-time position that comes out after that yeah we get some Behavior again it's not one of our or

048it's like I forget how much we pay in that it's a it's almost an needed Lisa do you have a sure it it's it's more of a as a menu item it's more of a consultant and we will order you know if we have a request for certain students who have a behavior plan that are is underway for example and we know the following year we may need to have some additional behavioral support we might put it onto the contract but it's like single single uh requests at a time um and we can add to or change that at any point if we need to but it is still a consultant model so it's not like getting your your own full-time Behavior yeah we don't have somebody here every single day doing behavior management but

049as we need it for specific high-intensive students they they come out and work with plan so not necessarily Behavioral Management for a classroom environment in terms of coaching um arru it's it's plan development and implementation all right thank you okay all right well uh directors thank you um no Steve Telly you're good to go we appreciate you you sticking around you free to stick around longer or get on the road before it freezes touch tomorrows thanks for thank you the partnership yes thank you okay so directors thank you for for well uh oh uh Tony hang on one second Katie are you back with us yes she's back uh Katie do you have any questions for Tony on this on item 6.1 I'm good thank you thank you thanks okay um so directors thank you

050for well first and foremost for your your review of it um and that way we can we're making informed decisions so now all of our discussion is over so a motion is in order this is a second read so motion board chair be res of the C School District Bo approv the lane ESD 202527 local service plan one year year one is presented resolution 02122 5- 6.1 Lane ESD 2025 local service plan year 1 second thank you resolution 02122 5- 6.1 Lane ESD 2025 through 27 local service plan year 1 uh motion made by director Milton bger seconded by director hly any discussion on the motion all those in favor I I Katie will'll take your silence as an ie well let me ask any opposed and Katie's not chiming in so we'll take that

051as a as a positive okay um all right so moving on to uh 6.2 superintendent okay so uh as a uh policy piece policy application we have item 0 d612 uh reconsideration uh of instructional materials uh board appeal of committee decision uh any request for reconsideration of any instruction materials follows the frame work similar to other complaint processes after a review and response by High School administration level one and appeal for district review is made at level two the district Community level report and recommendation uh is being appealed to the board uh Administration recommends that the board of directors review the district Community report and after review of the community report the board of directors can either affirm the recommendation of the district Community Committee or hear the appeal at the board level if the

052board agrees to hear the appeal of the committee uh each board will provided a copy of the material in question the district Community report the initial level one response and initial uh level one request for reconsideration to complete a full context review and return to march to make a final decision okay um so directors when you look down underneath that resolution line uh you see you see kind of spelled out in in a in a little fewer words uh that option one is to affirm the decision of the district community committee um or option two is to read the book and review the associated materials to reach a final determination at at next month or it says at a future meeting but at next month's at March's meeting um and I'll I'll I'll lead off

053with my comments here is I I read through through the committee um and in the agenda planning meeting uh it was it was related to me that that that meeting was was lengthy um and therefore we can assume it was it was thorough um but now this is where this is where my own personal however comment comes in um so however what since I have not read the qu the material in question I don't know if I agree with the committee's finding or not personally that doesn't mean that I won't agree with it but for me I would like to read it then I have more context when I read through the committee's finding that's that's where I would be more comfortable is is having the opportunity to have the book read the book and

054then and reread the committee's findings that's that's where that's where I'm sitting um I don't know what anybody else's thoughts are John I think we would be pretty negligent in our due diligence as elected officials if we didn't take the time to actually take this seriously and read the book and review the Bing yeah I try to and you just drop that bomb that elected official bomb you're right um that's that's pressure sometimes well and again had you had familiarity with the text itself it would be easy to just again if you knew what it was and you knew what the conclusion of the committee was you could affirm if you're not familiar with the book your most prudent action is to again take the materials and come back with a decision at a future

055date again because you may not again like February is a short month we got a lot of things going on um you may get to it in March and again you could say but we have review this we wanted to take back yeah so again I'm with Brian because I I don't I mean reviewing the what the committee came up with without actually I'm not familiar with it either so unless you've read the book it does it doesn't track agree hey Dan hi well I in preparation for this meeting I did not read the entire book but I did read excerpts from the book and I will say that um I certainly couldn't affirm the decision of the committee unless I spent some time and read the entire book because the exerts from the book

056I found very offensive okay Mor I just I can see where where directors are coming from I just really appreciate the time and effort that the committee put into reviewing it and we did have a really wide variety of people that were on that committee so I really want to respect the the time and effort that they put into it yeah yeah and and yes so to those to those I think there were six total no nine total on that committee there was eight plus I was the kind of coordinator we had one person that could not make it we can we can respect their time and their decision but I mean quite frankly we're the ones who elected yeah we're the elected body so we should have we should be able to have find

057little review on it and yes having full context just not to take you know what they yes they come up you know without actually reading the yes and so so yes B thank you for being willing to serve on that committee um absolutely this I I think it's 64 um it it goes through all these different committees for for material reconsideration and so that that they took a they took a weight upon their shoulders which we which we appreciate um yes please I just have another quick comment yeah um I have read most of the book as well and and I would just like as your um as directors are reading this to keep in mind that there is a very large population of people that are going through high school that are having questions

058about how they're developing and what things are going on it is a suicide kind of prevention book so rather when you're reading it rather than saying this is personally offending me or this is person try to think that you have a huge huge student body of children out there that are going through all kinds of development just please keep that in mind as you're doing it I've got a comment if I could please Katie um while I love to be informed and uh you know and upto dat and educated on things so I'm excited uh to go with option two and to read it um I do just want to point out that the due diligence of an elected official um is not always to you know in this case micromanage um but is also

059to you know really entrust the professionals that we've put in place on committees and who work for the district and so I just that that's also a privilege of us as a elected officials so what I've have done is I've taken my my resolution piece and I think this is going to the option two because you can get to option two and again you could read all the materials and wind up coming back to either overturn modify or affirm the decision of the committee at a future meeting and yes so option two gives you all three potential outcomes which I affirm what want modify or again I just think at least have the option at least do a little bit of due diligence is reasonable provent yeah yes nothing may change but exactly no nothing

060nothing may change and this is this is a further step in in the policies um okay so I guess at this point a motion would be in order well unless there's any more discussion on the item okay then a a motion would be in order board chair be resolved that the ca School District board read the book and review associate materials to reach a final determination at a future meeting regarding resolution 01825 d6.2 policy uh 11 a-2 procedures and reconsideration of instructional materials second Okay resolution 01 wait is this is this is that the right number because that's that's last month's datee 021 2256 right up here she didn't change that that's okay and I wasn't listening to the numbers did you say the numbers right 0 21225 d6.2 okay so so in effort to

061make sure that this is clear for the record resolution 021 225 d6.2 policy I I a AR parenthetical 2 procedures for the reconsideration of instructional materials that the option that is the motion is on is option two that the board read the book and review associate materials to reach a final determination of a future meeting motion made by director Barnett seconded by director hly any discussion on the motion and I'm going to ask was that I clarified that I'm clear okay so if no discussion on the motion a those in favor I I I those opposed n nay okay so four Ys two Nays and so motion motion passes 4 two um so Andy as we move forward we will will we need to swing by and pick up packet ready we have packets ready

062for fre to go open the back office we'll have to you by the end of the day okay all right thank you okay uh six moving on 63 um the student calendar uh I overheard a conversation with our student reps over this uh at the before the meeting and as they were looking at it they kept saying well when will we come back and I pointed out that they will not be coming back so I then saw them elbow each other and say let's pick the longest school schedule that has ever been in history they're going to combine all of them and just stretch it all out so all the student body Ma and Sheamus your next year's Long school year is is on their shoulders um that's not what happened in case anybody was

063wondering um all right so uh superintendent 6.3 uh 0 21225 d6.3 uh 2025 2026 student calendar uh the School Board needs to adopt the next school year uh calendar prior to the April board meeting uh the first draft of the 2025 26 school year calendar meets all requirs for instructional time keeping with local Traditions the school year will begin on the first Tuesday after Labor Day uh winter and spring break holidays follow the schedules of the public universities in Oregon uh the teachers associating is is evaluating the calendar for the placement of curriculum days uh prior to the final approval in March changes will appear in the updated drafts for the next meeting also presented with the next calendar is the outline draft for 2026 27 school year calendar it's recomendation review the draft calendars

064prior to adoption of the March meeting before you keep going do we have a do we know when the Teachers Association is going to be done with their review they should be done next week okay and then because really the only thing that the like for next year the Teachers Association is looking at is moving one of the curriculum days into August um we always have a busy inservice schedule and we're trying to create a dedicated time for teachers just to be able to work in their room with no interruptions at all just nothing scheduled them their room their books whatever they need just and not peep out of me Mike Andy or Amy right just um and so in a traditional calendar we have a 4-day inservice week and that is your first uh

065presentation on page 43 um uh we have inservice week uh 25 26 27 28 of August um next year uh Labor day is September 1st so we would begin September 2nd uh we maintain uh three curriculum days throughout the year uh one in October one in uh January and one in May and this ends the school year uh for the students on June 11th now your next page is uh page 44 it says 177 student day in five day teacher August uh by moving one of the days and I just arbitrarily picked uh the May 15th date I moved that as an optional work day for teachers somewhere in the week of the 18th to the 22nd they wanted to work the 29th that would give them one uninterrupted Day within their classroom uh and

066then school starts again the second but because we pulled one of the curriculum days up it shortens our calendar up students would be out Wednesday the 10th and last teacher day would be June 11th and that's a pretty standard schedule um and then as a preview and again we try to do these two years in advance and every seven years we get a very late Labor Day so on page 45 in your packet um I prepared um starting after Labor Day and starting before Labor Day drafts so in starting after Labor Day um we would start September 8th of 2026 this is as late as we ever start um and what that does is it pushes the end of the school year into the third week of June which is a long June right um

067your next uh page again not much of a difference it just has a one day change with a fifth teacher day in August on page 46 where you really want to focus is Page 47 starting before Labor Day right um if we have inservice week 24 25 26 27 August that means um school begins August 31st and ideally we would go to the school Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday the 31st 1st 2 and third of September and take the fourth day September 4th of Friday off as an inser as a non-contract day um and we we would do this again to insulate all of our students that work in local businesses because that's the last big holiday weekend rush and um we want their employers to have access to their student employees for the full 4-

068day weekend the students could work Friday Saturday Sunday Monday at the Labor Day weekend and uh then we come back to school on the 8th and go 89 10 11 so we go 4 week A 4- Day weekend and a 4 day week then we're into the school year this also brings the end of the school year up to June 11 second week yeah um I've been here on the third week in June with students um as much as they try it is not always a productive week um and then you've got variations if we start before Labor Day with a 5-day inservice um again pulling one day up and again and in this scenario on page 48 I made August 28th the curriculum day where teachers could work in their classrooms un fettered still

069the same plan to come to school August 31 September 1 23 and then take the fourth off have our kids be able to work Friday Saturday Sunday Monday in local businesses and then we're we're in second week of school starting September 8th now what this does is it pulls us one day up like it does on the other calendars so student school day end is the 10th and not the 11 and we just took the MayDay and pushed it up in that um and so what I'm asking the Teachers Association to look at is really do you do you want the fifth day in August and then if you got the fifth day in August where are your other two curriculum is that's again that's what you'll see is kind of confirmed for next month

070I I'm anticipating a fifth day in August and then a day in October for training because we'll have uh again new curriculum every year and having a having an October date uh makes sense for uh on-site and consultant training um and then uh either a slow roll back into uh January with the first Monday of January being a curriculum day people are coming off a holiday vacation and get their stuff together and set for the rest of the Year good thank you um Sheamus or maau uh and when you looked at this any any thoughts on either of these I I didn't have any thoughts personally um I'm pretty pretty happy with it um does doesn't matter a lot to either of us but um we're out of here I I I asked as many

071people as I can convince and talk to me unsurprisingly some people shove the calendar right back in my face and I don't care you got to work on your interpersonal skills man but for the people nobody ever walks away from me when I'm talking to him that's false keep going from all the people I did talk to um there were no complaints um for the 20 uh for the 26 27 um most of the Freshman sophomores I talk you about that one seemed like they wanted after Labor Day not sure if there's a specific reason but that was kind of the general temperature that I got yeah which is which isas yes which is easy to think because no I I don't want to go to school before the last day of summer you know

072because that's what they've always had I'm not saying yeah they're definitely not going to like that third week in June and and neither will the the teachers and staff having to deal with them um Callie any any thoughts on I mean we've always me and my friends have always talked about kind of like starting after Labor Day because we think that it's a better idea and I didn't even realize that it was on the board and so I was like oh well I mean me and my friends have always talked about having after Labor Day we just thought that that made a lot more sense um as the work thing as well is cuz a lot of us do have jobs and like working that 4 Day weekend is really nice um and so I

073mean I don't see a big problem with it definitely the thing in June is kids are like o summer done with it done with it but I mean I think it's a great idea just to kind of WR after a holiday and then go into school but the one thing that I haven't seen yet is the 2627 Osa Association calendar but the last time it felt like this the first competition week started the last week of August so all of our kids and coaches will be back yeah before our general staff and we're going to be playing catchup with half of the other districts in the state who again decided I don't want to go to the third week of June we're starting August 31st so for our next meeting seeing as this is the

074first reading we're still waiting to hear back from the teachers this is this is a first read that we need to put to a second read for for next month anyway and really all of this for the 2627 is Food For Thought at this point where really next month we're considering 25 the 2526 which is page 43 and 44 so I have a I have a comment go p uh just uh referencing what Andy mentioned and what's in his board report too about um you know starting before Labor Day and factoring in the kids who work in the tourism industry I'd say um as a person who employs those I'd much rather have them earlier in June uh than you know a couple of days there around uh Labor Day weekend so I'm wrong having

075them losing them the very last so losing them the the 31st 1 second third but having them the Friday Saturday Sunday Monday of Labor Day weekend is is a better benefit than well that's more valuable that happen the third June getting late okay I mean it's it's mult it's multifaceted pushing graduation to that late in the season is also difficult for the tourism and I mean we don't matter it really what matters is is how the staff feel um but I just wanted to point it out that I I would rather have them earlier in June and have graduation earlier than uh than a day you know before Labor Day weekend so good thank you okay directors any other thoughts specifically on 2526 other than saying second read second read for next month so that

076and we'll get the feedback okay so moving on um 6.4 okay uh item 0 21225 6.2 uh policy daa instruction materials and uh administrative rules 1 2 3 four five and six first reading uh with an update to the instructional materials policy there is Clarity and definition provided for cor materials supplemental materials School library materials and classroom Library materials the process for reviewer or reconsidering of each material is outlined to be consistent for each defined material group the general adoption of instructional materials has not sub stantially change but is updated reflect that not all curriculum materials will be hard copy text BS um our current policy is again one policy and two ARS uh we've broken this out into uh policy da instruction materials uh administrative rule one instruction materials definition uh rule two reconsideration

077of core uh core materials are those materials that um teacher committees uh do curriculum dotion Cycles every s Year bring to the board board uh reconsider of supplemental uh instructional materials these will be materials outside of the normal curriculum uh that our teacher selected uh and then reconsideration of school or Library classroom materials uh and then you've got five reconsideration form um so again doesn't matter if it's a core supplemental school or classroom Library uh the the general notation is the same and then uh independent adoption of corn structal materials it is rare that we do something that is not on quote unquote the approved list the approved list just means that it's a book that covers all the safe standards there are times when we do pick a book that is very good but

078it is in a deficit in one area and then we write a special curriculum unit to Su that deficit uh so we just wanted to keep that open as an uh Administration Rec the board of uh directors approved the updates the policy instruction materials and administrative gos 1 through six resolution 02 212564 thank you okay um uh Moren mentioned to me earlier that uh uh that this they in the policy committee they they spent a lot of time on this one um I'll I'll say right off that this one I I would like to have second read of this one I I spent most of my review in this section as I'm sure most of us did because it's the biggest section but reviewing there's a lot there's a lot there's a lot in here

079um and a lot of it's repetitive from from the one to you know because it because the verbiage needs to be the same first and foremost um but I'll stop yaking any other thoughts on on this item just I agree yeah if we were going to rep that I was going to talk notes I written from my review questions that I that I had so it would be good to have a second reading so everybody could be on because if you reviewed the the policy packet before the meeting uh you've got at least two large gaps that we plre talked about that above that I still had a couple more questions so I think that would be a bad idea at all not to you know circumvent with the policy Review Committee did I just

080would be good to hear this yeah I was just going to say let's if if you can if you would present your your questions and your concerns now so that we can consider them because at a second reading in theory that's when we would be deciding one way or another on okay on changes that's fair on it would be page 51 of the packet under supplemental instruction instructural materials um it reads in that first paragraph all supplemental instructional materials will be selected by and then it has the changed teachers principles Librarians and others as determined approach apprpriate and then the next section it reads which may not be through any formal selection procedure um I think it should be which will be through a formal selection procedure would be my recommendation um and as you

081move down um going to the very last second to last I tell you that that is a mistake the second part should be lined out the the selection process would be by teachers yeah but again we can make that through a formal selection process yeah that's that's an easy fix and then another one I've got it would be the third sentence down it starts in parenthesis all request for reconsideration of supplemental materials may be considered under administrative regulation I mean leaving that M I would like to change that to a will because M pretty much in my opinion circumvents the policy by leaving that ambiguous and up to consideration um but that's I mean I could be wrong I could be convinced that I was wrong but that's just my first new reaction on that

082piece there um and and under School library materials all which is the next next section down first sentence all School library materials will be selected by a teacher librarian using and I highlighted established selection criteria which is which is great I would just like to know what is the what is the criteria who established it I mean that's I mean and I'm sure that's probably fine too I just out of curiosity I just like to know where that piece comes from and um you know once again it's a little bag making the same change here uh I'll request for reconsideration of classroom Library materials maybe would that be a real here as well correct and then that that same that may to a will um would because a lot of these just mirror and so

083that would be I have the say notes on the other um okay thank you thank you for those uh you have you want to keep going um well we would be going on the next next policy so I mean that's um you know if that's appropriate to do now but I mean I would be moving over to uh1 instruction material definition yeah I'd be going to the uh ar1 correct Sheamus uh Sheamus uh just word suggestion when we talk about um when we talk P please 5051 I think the it's the established selection criteria just one word suggestion maybe elate that if we put in there that that selection criteria should be outlined in a document that's publicly available on the district website or something like that just so that it's very clear to everyone

084involved if you go on the district website you can go see okay this is this is the official criteria very very clear yeah and it may it may already be so bringing up bringing up our our questions concerns comments about this revieww in the first read is so that between the first read and the second read we get we get those answers so just a suggestion for something specific to in there to alleviate that yes thank you um okay John keep going and you're you're on page 53 I'm on next page 4 we have I'm on that topic but now we're on page 54 under School library materials um number one um in select materials for the school library or Media Center a teacher librarian under supervision of the principal will evaluate the existing collection

085and curriculum needs the teacher librarian will consult reputable professional prepared selection aids with other professional sources materials will contain suitable readability levels um and I just highlighted under professional sources that's pretty big once again kind of goes back to my who is that what is that um and I think if we're going through this the same process we have on some of this stuff on some of this reviews I wouldn't be opposed to having a broader Spectrum panel of review maybe a sample of parents or staff or something like that some type of panel review on on some of the stuff as we're going through the the media center so I think we can alleviate some of the issues that we're current dealing with this other book that we're going to be reviewing if we

086had a little bit more broad spectrum okay review of things so that's just my two cents for okay um is that is that the extent of that is like if you have the floor might as well going okay let me let me catch up to my notes what page we're on here and make sure I'm on the right one so let's [Music] go sure I want to write here so this is I on two so that John did you have any changes on page 52 uh let me go back to page 52 here let go back looks like it would be that same thing with the May yes yes there was there was correct yes thank you and and this also in terms of inform formal selection procedure affirmative correct thank you say John move

087ahead whenever you're uh okay2 so let's go through um a R2 so now I'm on got line this up this isn't why this is 56 oh yes it is thank you um a the page there and on page 56 if we go down to section D and then we got L then we got um subsections one through five um you know on number on number two we've got one teacher librarian designated by um super or designate um I guess my question on this particular topic Topic in regards to this um is is there a need for a teacher library on on this panel so I mean that's just just a thought there is I'm completely open to that I just thought that was a consideration um so that's I have that under number two just

088a a point point to ponder and as we go down below five it reads uh the reconsideration committee may be included other designated District Personnel um in discussion about complaints which relate to uh unrepresented groups or protected class this is that new piece to put in um my thoughts were keep the old section we had before that that's lined I like the way that reads better and get rid of the new recommended piece but that's just my opinion so I like the way it was repeat better before it's part that stried out but that's once again that's just my perspective yeah and real quick just because because so we don't have to come back to this page um also in that in that the reconsideration committee um going down to number four says that the

089four members from the community appointed annually by the board that part is but then there I I and I'll say I should have made the little reference because somewhere else it it talks about how instead of having committee members requesting committee members MERS at the beginning of every school year they'll be appointed as needed um and I forget exactly where where that is and I just saw those two things is as as in congruous that you can't have both yeah needs to go up one way Pi a lane yeah um and and that well that's a good point too I just figured it would be the I figured the best not I just figured it would be yeah well since we're not since this isn't a weekly monthly thing that we're dealing with it doesn't

090make sense to have the annual it just be the the buy buy situation the way that the way that it was just currently done as need um yeah so but at the same time to say pick a lane we need to choose the one or choose the other so yeah Andy what were you saying no again that's an easy fix this is specifically about core materials yes yes yeah so yeah yeah okay yeah and thank you for that I need to Qui that know even though it's the heading on the page before it's specifically about cor materials okay um uh all right and also um on this same page I'll let's let's do this let's continue to John you're going to be kind of leading the the I'll continue the if any of us have

091notes on on the pages that he turns to um the the question that I had is says procedures for the reconsideration committee are as follows and I have a question question on number one it says select a chair and a secretary the chair of the committee will be an employee of the district the secretary may be an employee of the district or a Community member and I just I put the question and I'm not by asking the question I'm not intonating that I have an answer for it I just the question that popped in my mind when I see that the not was struck out was is that is that potentially creating a bias that would that would be my only concern there by making sure that the chair could only be an employee versus

092the consensus of the committee appointing a chair I don't know that was an organizational note it's easier easier for staff to coordinate and run these meetings that was the only reason was not because putting that burden on a Community member they're already stepping in enough to do this again they can be the in essence the secretary or the co-chair yeah right but they're not and they're a member of the committee so they have input too yeah not men the not to mention the staff are the professionals I mean the the volunteer certainly could be a professional in that area but there's no way to guarantee that the staff are the are the educated Professionals in the room on the on the materials sure thank you yes okay so uh John well director anything else and

093and Katie please please chime in if I if because that this owl doesn't look like you at all will and so I'm forgetting to I'm forgetting to to uh to check in with you um John you want to continue please yeah um going on to page 60 and if we look at um reconsideration uh committee um once again under five we've got the new um blue recommended and I like the additional detail information that was at in the two larger paragraphs that were struck so um once again I could be convinced other wise but going off of an an initial read I did like the other information better the way it's read with additional detail okay director anything that uh in a few pages that we just skipped over that that are in your notes

094okay um I don't have anything on that page uh John you want to keep yep going under SE F in the same um in the same ke server this would be on page and this is four and five the suitability of material for students it was used with and professional review sources for the title material when available I was just curious what sources were being used okay no we can make that list because it's the same three professional vetting sour I keep coming I mean like I said a lot of this is going be yeah repetitive so um and then as we move where we try to light up my my pages here um now if we go over one have you gone past page 62 uh I'm on 62 okay that's where I'm at

095right now and that's where I think we're addressing that now I think we've got a piece in here that I was missing before in regards to the board being removed out of this um where it has you know areas in in yellow that are struck out the board will review the appeal information board meeting but I think we talked about that previous meeting and that's added back in under line item six yeah in there which addresses that concern that I had there am I not correct with that no you're correct because again we took item five item five could have been appeal to the superintendent or appeal to the board we created Five as the appeal to the superintendent uh again to create a layer like in our other complaint policies and then that decision

096could be appealed to the board in six um in six I I have a I have a question that doesn't need answered right now but just for all of us to consider um where about towards the end of the paragraph says uh the board will review the appeal and information at a board meeting the board should review whether the correct procedure was followed if the correct procedure was followed the decision of the committee should be affirmed well so so to me that I like we just we just decided that we're going to read this book and and now all of our options are still on the table but that language to me says that we wouldn't be able to have that ability in the future because if they follow the procedures which they did for

097well all the documents that we have says that they very much follow the procedure and therefore we must affirm it like the procedure is not the conclusion is that am I thinking about am I reading this wrong so so how how it reads again it says the board should review whether the correct procedure was followed if the correct procedure was followed comma the the decision of the committee should be affirmed yeah that that reads like well as long as they followed their protocol then their decision ised by the question is is there a skew in the committee then the procedure wasn't followed and then you can take it out right what do you mean by the committee again but that a matter of subject subjectivity and not whether they follow the the way you look

098at how again how the committee is assembled right and again there was a a let's call it a a presumptive concern that to get an outcome the committee could be stacked to get one outcome right and if the committee is stacked for one one outcome the procedure has not been followed and it's and and the decision doesn't have to be affirmed it should be then reviewed by the board but if it is a good balance committee and they and they come up with a solid recommendation yeah then the board should consider that there has to be a major flaw in the process it can't be we just like the decision that a a serious group of professional and community members went into because if you want to have the final say eliminate the other steps

099and just have all the appeals come to the board that's that's what we're talking about is that we can we can simplify this and just have all the appeals come directly to the board so but I don't think you have to include in policy if the correct procedure was followed the decision of the committee should be affirmed because um I think it's sufficient to say the board should review whether the correct procedure was followed but then leave out the if sentence yeah well and and really the the to to that point of it's It's kind of human nature to say if things didn't go my way it must have been stacked against me you know the the ref the ref lost me the match the ref lost me the game is that mentality right it's

100it's it's it's easier that way and so so to your point it's it's a balanced committee according to who and and I'm not saying that this this current one because right now we're talking about policy but with with the the heavy in the air our current going on right so so when I look at that committee my subjective anal an analytics of that committee is yep is pretty balanced however that's all that's my perspective where where that may not always be the case and so back to the I I fear that that second sentence beginning with with if would be a okay well they follow the procedure and therefore the board can't follow another appeal unless I'm reading itong in that regard why you have an appeal to the board if what you know can

101project in that regard why have the committee in the first place having sat on the committee having been uh the Advent of record from the beginning of this current appeal and I have nothing but respect for the way the appeal has gone this far agreed but we are duplicating all well we stand probably ready to duplicate a significant portion of the work that was done in committee once again with another committee this time being the board well that's the nature of of an appeal right that's yes and in contentious times I can see like you're saying anybody who does not like the the initial is going to make an appeal to this body anyway so we're trying to either affirm the decision of the committee or I'd say skip the committee which I I think

102is risky when we about this much yeah I agree but the notion that the same learned people who had a three-hour discussion on a book that took me 45 minutes to read is going to come together and have that discussion again to have a decision that might be might go this way in at one level and go this way at the top level that's a lot of work and I know you pay me well and you pay me to to do the the heavy work but duplicating this work on what I think might be an increasing number number of curriculum elements that come into question is dodging I agree with all of that but I stand by the idea that that's the nature of an appeal is is to it I mean in in any

103trial you know any court case that gets appealed the whole thing is HT again and I and and that's not to say oh just give me three more hours and I I get that like because I have haven't spent those three hours yet and so it's it's much more daunting standing from your perspective than from mine um and 45 minutes I got to spend 45 minutes reading it's got a lot of pictures oh picture oh good okay all right so um so thank thank you thank you for that and I think that is something to consider and I do agree that the the a committee process is a valuable step just just as we added a step six by making step five only an appeal to the superintendent it would be negligent to try to

104remove step whatever so everything that is in blue is District created language you can edit that as you see F we're debating the point now we're not Illuminating the changes in the policy correct we're sure we're we're we're at least four weeks into the future right now yeah that's just one last point I also believe that when you get a better understanding of the selection criteria that are currently followed you might have more um Insight insight and competence into the original decision or inclusion absolutely that might factor into what levels of because we're talking about again how this book is selected then also how the book is reviewed because again like the committee decision is not necessarily a promotion of the book right that's that's again it is available to students for a selection and

105a choice and it has material in it that wouldn't be appropriate for the regular classroom again that's there and people aren't saying that the committee you can't go to one of the committee members and say oh so you support the use of this word in this Frame no in the context of the entire book this is the goal and this is how it was evaluated and and people are not condoning the language or promoting the language saying the message of the book is this right and that's really what the committee is doing and and instead of getting down to these Point specific that word's in there you must endorse that right and it's no it's not an endorsement of any word or any or any Contex or any other specific in the book it is

106within again we asked three primary questions and it was would a student find Value in this book would a parent find Value in this book for the and and the Stinger to that question was whether they have your own philosop personal religious or social philosophies or different sure now okay well to that I think I think that's a different issue than than these two sentences in here but but to that also um actually no sorry what what I'm about to bring up is is the it doesn't have to do with this so we need we need to stay on this I'll bring that up later um uh writing myself a note bring it up later um okay including the the the criteria in the policy in some way okay that we can do and we

107had a lot of conversation around that during the policy Review Committee but but trying to Define it and put it into policy so it's not it's not regimented um and removes some of the professional um professionalism of anal analyzing the the information is I think is more difficult yes good all right we have a lot to consider okay John uh let me double check where I'm at here Qui like um or I try see I one page 65 I do believe um yeah reconsideration um of committee similar changes that I had on the on the other one too under five um where I thought uh you know I like the way the old ver you know I put at back and remove the the the cpage under five where we've got um the reconsideration committee

108made food Equity T and I decided I like the old verbiage better but once again that's just my my two SS were same thing same comment I had on on um I think that was number two and let me see I do believe um and then go here and I think we've added that extra paragraph again um appeal to the board and this is on page 67 I do believe the AR four which is yes number five you guys added the section six appeal to the board same discussion we just had a couple minutes ago so whatever change you are making in uh on page 62 would be the same change you would make on on page 67 if if we make a change if you a change and that is it that was kind

109long with it sorry um okay director anything I'm I wrote a few notes and I'm that one I think we pretty much that one I think we pretty much answered um and go back to where John got ahead of me [Music] here uh J sorry yeah real quick um back on 54 for the classroom Library materials I feel that it would probably be a good idea to add some language in that one that says if a challenges sustained for a school library material it cannot then be placed in a Boston library because I feel that that could just be a potential work around to get around a challenge that we sustain um which which which part of this page are you are you looking at right now Shan uh the number four there yeah after

110that yeah it it would probably be a separate okay okay um okay so the concern there is if there's a if there's material being challenged in the library that it would be you the your preferred language would be that that that could not move from the library into a classroom Library yes basically what I'm saying is if someone challenges a school library material their challenges sustained it gets removed there's some restrictions plac that that restriction REM should also apply classroom libraries in the same grade level so that we don't have a situation where I'm not saying anyone would do this but just hypothetically someone was like oh they took it out of the school library so I'm going to put it in my classroom not saying anyone would do that just saying that it could

111happen mediates the work right yeah that's a that's that is a a good point to consider um thank you um directors anything um I I have a I have a question a question also mainly because I think we we are fairly spoiled here by having a teacher librarian will that always be the case like when as far as I'm concerned well thank you well again it's a again you're also talking about a a budget piece I we said the same thing in the in the 90s and in the budget hit and we went from three Librarians and three aids to three AIDS and outside sourcy okay right so again so talking about we're talking about a bigger there's a budget collapse who are you cutting yeah if that if that will not the teacher librarian

112um so if yes so so if that were to change reg regrettably change in the future we would just have to change the verbiage of this policy right and again why the sub why the teacher librarian is listed in there're the subject area specialist yes yes and yes because a teacher librarian is not just a librarian it's yes yes um okay um I think that is well okay I don't know if this is the right I'm going I think this is the right place so um when you go to page 65 it's it I just happened to have noticed it on page 65 um I think this is what I was what I was trying to get to um that's not 6 that's 65 uh let's see the part that struck out that John that

113you were saying you prefer I think um the committee selected will only serve to consider the material which is the subject of the request for reconsideration unless otherwise specified after completion of the re of the consider reconsideration committee's responsibilities committee members will be returned to the to the pool um okay that's not what I thought it said when I glanced at it when John was talking um but one of the concerns that I had in going through this is part of the instruction given to the current committee that just convened and met and and spent their valuable time uh with this that that they had the they had the instructions to um to review the book within the context of the materials uh would a student or parent find this book beneficial and you just

114you just mentioned that as well but is that is that what they were to address or are they to address does a complaintant have can a complaintant give a more specific reason that complaint can say any reason they want for the book to be reconsidered and then this and so they are they are just but so regardless of a complaintant point this is still the instruction for each of that committee not addressing the specific complaint just addressing and I'm not I'm not pitching one way the complaint is to the book and or or the material and we're saying looking at the looking at the book or the material I mean is this again considering all the things that the complaintant has said is this of value okay right that's what we're saying okay okay all

115right that that I think that clears it up a little bit a little bit for me I'll read and reread before next month's meeting um okay anything else J no I mean just the one that we were going back and forth with with the affirming what the committee you know come but I I think smart thoughtful people can disagree so I think it's have a board and yeah John anything else Katie Katie have anything else on no not right now okay um well well my encouragement and my request then is is do another do another read through as board members do another read through here um you know make make more notes and and uh and well also if we're going to discuss things I would say and don't respond to the emails but if

116there's something specific that you didn't bring up tonight an email saying hey consider this is is would not be inappropriate to send is it possible to have a draft of the selection criteria as we're re-evaluating this yes well we'll get it well you guys do your planning the Tuesday before we usually get yeah I think that might help us that day or the next day James special Logistics request for you could you send me the dockx of policy please yeah appreciate it man was he speaking English yes I I I asked him to send me like the word copy because well done she speaks computer yeah well well flux capacitor then okay I didn't think you would be the one that laugh toilet something indeed as long as long an hour it does IAT work

117all right okay all right so this will be to a second read you have further questions give give send those questions in bny doesn't know it I know Andy will know where to find it um okay oh it's right I heard that all right 65 okay item 02122 5 6.5 uh policy ABB use of feature films and videos uh action Fish Reading and request the board of recors policy being reviewed and updated to uh best reflect teacher practices or teacher selected use of films and videos that are uh to supplement for classroom instruction uh Administration Rec board approve the updates to II I use of feature films and vide okay directors questions on this one for your review over and I see something yellow highlighted on your page oh nothing body feedback um I asked

118a bunch of people about what they thought about videos and films in class and there were definitely some people who like me think that there are too many videos but there were also a lot of people to their credit and I think this is worth bringing up that say that they really like videos and find a lot of value in them that's just for my kind of informal survey what I got that's all for that survey would you say it was about 50/50 I'd say probably more like 6040 64 videos 40 against okay I think there's also a sizable amount that aren't anti video always but just I watch videos all the time I want less videos good point thank you um just my my observations and questions okay um thank you any any any

119further discussion on this item well this is a first read also do we want to push to consent or push it to a second read consent me too consent I'm okay K you good with pushing 65 to consent agenda that's fine thank you the consent was feeling pretty lonely so it's just it's just going to have the minutes there um all right uh 66 superintendent hey uh item 0212 25- 6.6 policy IAD special interest materials uh as reviewed by the policy committee requirement for the use of special interest material better updated to reflect School practices Administration recomends board directors approve update the policy I a special interest consider and this is not a this is kind of a not really a sister policy but kind of a cousin policy to the one that we just

120pushed to the consent agenda if I'm understanding them both right yes yeah um so uh directors any any discussion on the item go ahead John I guess with concern that I've had from certain different community members why would we not want the line that strike out predit materials from non-school sources should not be displayed or distributed in schools or on the school grounds without approval of superintendent or designate I remember distinctly when we had some things a few years ago and we even had teachers union stuff but it's up on the walls specifically order not to be on there but we're speaking up on the walls because there wasn't adequate oversight I have I have a question mark next to that line as well um correct me if I'm wrong Mr superintendent but if I

121recall correctly there isn't there another policy that governs St activ yeah again this is a again we eliminated the line because policy kja exclusively focuses on material distribution and has to be approved right so it's struck here because it's it's addressed it's addressed in another policy in its entirety so it's it was it was a redundancy that was eliminated you look at the cross references we added in IIA instruction materials and then also list is kga materials distribution yeah okay yeah all right so again we had materials just come in from a community organization the the caring parent and Pregnancy Center and again these are not things that we handed out in class but I approved them they're in the counseling office you'll be able to any kids that want to go pick them up

122okay but it's not something that we would give to kids or have kids distribute in class yeah that makes sense again if anybody needs it it's available okay well here's Here's my thought right now too is is what is going to be is is having this one sentence here a true redundancy because I I didn't look down here and when I was reviewing this I didn't consult kja I next to we can restore it and again maintain the redundancy and really my my question is is the redundancy overdone or having this bit of information or this followed with C kja that's what I just wrote restore C policy kjthe parenthetical yeah perfect that works look at that there you have it things happen um okay so with that then can we have that change made

123and then still have it on a consent agenda since it's a sister policy yes good then I'm then let's uh head head nods and Katie you good with the consent agenda for six uh 67 no 66 I'm fine with that okay all right um superintend uh item uh 56.7 uh restoration of previously adopted policies uh pending a legal challenge to Federal t n regulations the following policies that were Advanced to the consent agenda for the December 2024 board meeting should be repealed as part of the repealed uh approval of list the prior version of each policy shall be reopt to remain in effect um in December um we adopted uh policies AC acr1 and acr2 uh policy gbn jba JF JF AR and deleted certain policies uh the recommendation to the board would beor prly

124adopted versions of the following policies as the current guidance in W stre District restoring policy AC non-discrimination policy ACR discrimination complaint procedure policy gbn jba and jba GBA sexual harassment gbn jba AR and G gbn AR sexual harassment clle procedures and uh gbn jba ar2 and jba gbn ar2 federal law TI line sexual H harassment procedure policy JF pregnant parenting students and policy JF a individualized plan for pregnant and parenting okay um this is this is a first read also um so we can was this was this advice of council yes it was osba uh legal had looked at this um and with things in flux with title line again Oregon has a lot of the provisions in title l in state law but not every other state in the Union does and those States

125have protested certain elements and until that settled state law has is out of alignment with in their states out law but ORD already had additional Protections in certain areas so we're just reverting that to state law and the old version from 2021 or 2014 or whatever it was okay so director this well any other questions or comments on this one okay um well this one we can push to a second read or consent I say we good with consent okay so this one also will be pushed to consent agenda which brings us to the end of our discussion items um and we'll move into and thank you all for your your time and listening ears um we will get into our reports and information um you we saying something to me that I need okay

126all right so we'll start with superintendent your Communications please okay um Personnel report February 12 2025 um again newly hired classified impair professional staff uh Tammy Monday permanent substitute driver Brandon Caldwell permanent substitute bus driver Jennifer geets amm bus monitor uh Robert Lawson temporary special education life skills Aid uh Rebecca Young special education life skills Aid Elementary School and Von MCL and temporary independent Aid s Middle School uh no new coaches at this time resignations retirement other separations of employment Joe shantan Library Aid C Elementary School Patrick Peters counselor C elementary school and then we got three full retirements coming on in the end of the year uh Chuck Johnson health and PE teacher for the high school Jan Sapienza secretary for the elementary school and laa Miller secretary for maintenance and Transportation uh additionally

127we've had three additional certified subs and another classified sub before um with all the recent weather uh as of late uh we had a two-hour late start last week um we're still at an acceptable weather closure buffer of three days for the 12th graders and two days for the kindergarteners if there's any more need for closure before we have to start rain days back um again we've already talked about calendars um and then is an addition to your uh packet again not in mine is um you were supplied with the state of school libraries in or 2025 report for the associated School libraries um you have the bo committee report in here in the redactive version without names of persons uh directly involved uh and then uh a list of meetings and busy busy stuff

128and then the best part we've got our students of the month for Jan listed on the last three pages of my report and if you get time to go to your electronic version Middle School's put together a pretty uh pretty cute little video for their students of the month on YouTube you Ling that so um that would be all I have for this report thank you directors any questions for for Andy okay thank you for putting together that report it's much appreciated um so this seems to be the Habit um instead of really going through every page by Page seeing as we've been here for a while um directors as we will first off admin who puts these together thank you thank you thank you very very much um of course the the pictures are

129always the fun part for me um that part's fantastic um so directors any questions or concerns uh do well through any of these admin reports did we skip with this Communications I was going to say you definitely I just saw her it was just the next page in the binder so hold that thought CeCe you're up good even not to keep you very long I know during your um de for me during your work session you received the email from our um child and adult care food program stating how um we admitt it through the administrative audit and everything is great um just a little light on that Sarah has received most of the excellent um she does the hard workk you know she's managing all of the nutrition she's um there I mean they

130measure it down to the slice of cheese so she has a very difficult position to make everything a flavorful edible and according to um organs um National School organs Child Nutrition program because ours a little stricter than the rest of so um so she did a great job claims are great everything's on point um um one other thing that we did this year because we talked about her goals at her last evaluation she's only been here this is her second year um and she's doing fabulous um we talked about her goals last year um this is the first year in three years that the food service has hit self-supporting so that means this revenues are better than its expenditures um we didn't lose any people in fact we added a few hours on on at

131the high school um and and it's all about balance and it's all about um being able to account for everything and that is what she's really good at as organization so I appreciate her so I wanted to do a little shout out um also um we also wrote a grant with the national school program here at OD um for 25,000 so what what one of her other goals are is to start a little bit of scratch cooking and build from there so equipment is expensive so so we were able to obtain a new steamer uh combine oven that both bakes and steams so we should be able to um start our progress on scratch cook that's thing so that's a little let me let me add to that just for that the Child Nutrition programs

132um I I want to read a little bit from Shannon Smith's email reporting on her review says there were no findings during this administrative review all areas reviewed were in compliance as a result there are no required corrective actions and this review is in the process of being closed please see the attached report blah blah odnp acknowledges your organization's commitment to serving quality meals and the high degree of Integrity with which you operate a child and adult care food program so well done and as a little note that is what our after school program so our our our regular Child Nutrition programs for our lunch program breakfast and lunch here at school for our after CARE program and um we this is what the um child and adult care program covers so we serve daily

133probably average it was an average of about 105 students so after school programs what we call supper so so we're able to provide that which is great so thank you very much for that um one last thing from the business office um I'm going to be holding a budget 101 meeting um for all of our budget committee as well well the board is part of the committee so everyone um it gives us time as a one-on-one um just to to discuss um some Basics on um budget process and the budget handbook and um funding sources and if you have any other additional questions you've been through quite a few budgets in your term here on the board but some of the budget committee members haven't started yet or we have a new person as well

134and I know Brian's going to be there so so um yeah please come it's U informal um it'll be a quick presentation but we'll be able to you'll be able to ask questions and and get some of the um process is down on how the meetings will go and as well as what our funding sources are and where we are in the stap of on this budget process C I think Sheamus has a question for you oh yeah acceptable if I come sure all right so that is set for work session um March 5th at 4 o' excellent you good thank you okay and thank you for your time this evening uh all right so second verse same as the first admin reports thank you all for putting these together I really like the picture

135part um so uh directors any any questions or concerns from those admin reports John uh no read through lots of great information thank you I know that's a pain in the hind end but I really like the uniformity all all the buildings do to be able to keep things makes it very easy easy to read um and I appreciate it one thing they jumped out at me and this is actually kind of indirectly for you Mike we had the every 15minute program last year which I thought was was very thought-provoking heart-wrenching and um an incredible program what catches me off guard that we could have that and that I know the Project Graduation has nothing directly to do with the school but the whole reason behind having the graduation Project Graduation is started with Mothers

136Against drug driving keeping our students after graduation keeping them safe for a period of time and for me I think personally it's absolutely l to move this from anything other than graduation night so I know you don't have any direct input on that but I'm curious to know who is the head of the Project Graduation committee uh by name I guess I'm uncomfortable giving names s but may now I can provide that later for that's fine I'm G to say right now but it'll be something I should be something we should reach out to I think part of the consideration there is many other schools have the exact same plans and the exact same graduation days so the number of venues open to our students has been limited over the years so the the the

137parents involved have had some struggles um finding places of interest to take the students secondly I asked the same questions of the community secondly a number of students graduate seniors last year didn't attend because graduation weekend is also a big family weekend where a lot of people come to town so to have your graduate graduate go for an all nighter doesn't fit everybody's family plans but you're absolutely right the the the objective originally going back 30 or four years ago was to grab the kids and keep them off the roads smart decisions on graduation rather than over celebrate yeah I mean one fatality sure change everybody's mind Callie I don't mean to be call but I do have a little bit to say about that um I go to a lot of the project grad

138meetings because I'm the senior president so I kind of help them and bring in ideas and everything like that and I was one of the people that kind of mentioned it having it after and we considered it everything and just a lot of the seniors after graduation going to that all night trip and having to go and pretty much being up all night having to practice all that day as well for graduation it's just a huge thing and then having to go and meet with all their family the day after I talked to so many of the seniors because I went to multiple of their graduation parties they looked terrible I will have to say they just looked like they were having a rough time especially just staying up all that night and it is

139like that consideration is we completely understand that but what's stopping them from partying or doing anything any other weekend and so it's it is like the day after graduation and things like that but at the same time it's like we wanted to give the students the opportunity to actually meet and be attentive with their family members that they haven't seen in quite a while for a lot of them and so it was was a very hard decision to because of your concern but we just thought that it would be a better idea to have it the day after um the last day of school because it'll be kind of easier on the students James um I guess my piece of this is I want to First speak to the family that not everyone has lived

140here their whole life um in my case for example I know that a lot of my family members including family members who live a very very substantial wayway across the country would probably be coming out at that time and I think that especially nowadays with a lot of people being dispersed like that it is helpful not to have a big trip and I I understand fully support the original intent of that but I feel that because of the amount of advertising we do the amount of PE work that people put into it anyone who's going to want to have that big experience with their peers will do it then anyway I don't think that by moving it we're necessarily encouraging worse decisions because I think people are still expecting and have that outlet that would

141otherwise might Tak place that makes sense yeah and I'm not saying that you and speak to that I'm not saying that poor decision still won't be still won be made but I will fall back on saying very easy is the right decision easy decision in life and just because it's easier on the students doesn't make it the right decision to make stud we've been doing this for 30 plus years there's a reason for it you've see Nationwide fatalities after BR Knight drop drastically um I do believe probably goes back even further than that because wasn't it Nancy Reagan who pushed the first um say no to drugs really big push behind Mothers Against drug driving and that's where this really started I do think people are really losing the fact foundation of the roots and

142if we don't learn from history we don't pay attention to history we're doing to repeat the same mistakes over again and I think that's what we're flirting with here and I think that's a reality and this is something where adults should be making decisions and no offense not students because we have the the ability to have the gray hair to be able to look back in time and the reality of where this came from and understanding of it um and allowing parents to be parents and making the best decision for the kids because speaking of one who has five I just don't keep them all here it does also introduce a different Paradigm for for us at the school because since the Project Graduation event happens in the hour postgraduation when they are no longer

143saaw high school students I've had no oversight over any element of fundraising or site selection or or permissions to go ordering the bus all of that has existed outside of me now we're in a weird place it's still between our our Bells so to speak yeah in the confines of the school year but it's still not a school sanction event um in previous years there have been questions from a disciplinary standpoint whether or not a students should be allowed to attend and haven't been able to say that is your decision because that's not still their decision because this is not a school sanctioned event which has completely it is completely run by the parent committee and again whether it happens June 5th or May 31st the parent committee can say this kid has done this

144and their parents can appeal to that committee again it's still it's still not a district sanctioned event um so then it's if it were to be a a school sanction event then we would have absolute Dominion on it um but as soon as the kid walks across the St we have the b in the hand they're not ours but this is again the parent committee putting together this celebration it's outside of us so the the the control of the EV still belongs to the parents that's what is as jamus and I were saying is kind of the students were agreeing with us we didn't have the opin like we had our say in it but we weren't the people that ultimately made the choice on it it was the project graad that they took the

145idea and they said that's a good idea they are the ones who officially made it but we just had our opinion sure thank you thanks John um anything else from the admin report directors K you all good with those with the adue reports we'll take that as a yes um okay so uh moving on uh 7.4 um well one more thank you to the to the all of the admin who puts those together uh 7.5 uh board chair Communications we already talked about the child and adult care food program uh check your emails for the superintendent evaluation email from Vince um because that that's he wants those done I think it was Sunday by a certain time so this coming this coming Sunday um yeah the 16th by like well just do before the 16th

146and doesn't matter the time of day um Sheamus you us yeah I think you're in a Skippy boot okay so like I was saying 7.4 student here paper rock see who goes first oh James um I was going to talk more about the calendar and the video survey but that already came up um I just want to make sure C have your chance um I just wanted to shout out Sarah and Sarah man and Kim Stinger for the CNA program that they're putting on right now I'm a part of that CNA program and I'm the health off 3 class it's an amazing opportunity for the students and there's a lot of kids going out and they're able to Shadow and kind of get a head start on the career and I just think it's a

147really awesome opportunity and to be able to get our CNA license by the time we graduate is going to be really helpful as I can literally become a CNA while working like working in college while I going medical field so I just want to give a shout out to them as all the work and everyone that's putting into that is really amazing there you go well done Shar and Kim and everybody else involved in that CTE program um okay thank you anything else okay now 7.5 so finish out those those evals uh the link is sent um from Vince um those will be in your emails uh February 8th is the filing period uh opened um for so it is open now uh for school board applications uh positions 2 4 and six website has

148been updated with 20 2025 election information March 20th is the filing deadline um and per those surveys um is our our work session our executive session is February 19th for the superintendent evaluation um and that is was at 5:00 pm here uh March 12th regular board meeting August 9th is the budget and the board meeting at the middle school and just a reminder we are we are all the budget committee so we are will we are also budget committee um and then April 23rd is the budget meeting the middle school and this one says gymnasium so the ninth will be in the common yes uh we've got a student play production that's going to take up the stage okay so instead of dismantling and moving move figur it something to that effect and then our

149May and June May 14th and June 11th are those are our regular board meetings as well and that June 11th y'all won't be here you will be graduated you'll be here after graduation probably Bo okay why miss one more meeting right all right okay so um also right here look at that schedule to find your name um and remember to attend those uh budget meetings uh director SED and I at Transportation uh director Barnett hly and maybe miltenberger at the middle school and miltenberger and snedden question mark at the elementary school and direct po director Pim at the high school and look at those those days we're going to jump to eight no we're not we're not going to jump to eight gonna go order Diana since you gave me that smirk up that wasn't

150a funny joke smirk um hang on Sheamus go first wanted to confirm I'm still joining you guys for the 27th high school budget guess have jamus right here okay Diana I want nothing to add okay J I'm good John good let see mying doesn't seem to be not really well but I have two things to say so you're just G to have to deal with that let me try this first of all I went to thepan see it's working sort of just have with it okay I went to the Hispanic night there were a lot of people there like 250300 is that what we yeah I think at least 300 at least 300 I think so there were so many people there and the kids were just so involved in all excuse me guys and

151all the activities there were so many incredible activities there staff worked really hard I did learn one really important thing we know that our superintendent is very very um comp or doesn't many things but I found a new talent for that he has he is an expert bottle opener keep line moving open everything but it really was it was a wonderful um wonderful evening I really appreciate that everybody uh participated in all the work they did I got one more thing this I've been volunteering with um at the elementary school with first graders and the first thing I want to mention is if they don't sit still and not real quiet but I just really come to appreciate our staff just amazing amazing people um one of the things I wanted to talk about maybe

152because my voice is going Amy could you step in for me because I would have ched out the ready program can you that for a second because my voes yeah I watched the kids do it I was really impressed um so with um the adoption of the early literacy grant that Mr G and I worked on we able to purchase um a universal screener which is a diagnostic tool that we use with all of our students K through five um and with with this data we're able to inform instruction and group kids appropriately to make sure we're closing the gaps where they're needed and riching on the other end where kids are already needing standards of being sufficient so Morin got to witness uh some of our students first grade students taking the assessment um

153and they're very eager to do it because it's on the computer um and the way the program is designed it has B brain breaks for kids so they do some questions and then they get a little activity so it kind of keeps them motivated and excited about what they're doing um so I think that's kind of what she's I mean it's fabulous tool that we haven't had in the past and it really is making a difference because we're having intentional conversations and using the data um to talk about what we can do differently to show improvements with our kids reading skills so and we actually just last Friday had a two-hour training with the trainer from the company who came in and help us start digging into our school data and down to like classroom

154level so teachers were able to take that information and start looking at specific students and um applying that towards adting construction to meet those needs and it just doesn't seem like it has a stigma when you say you're G have to take a test now it doesn't have that sort of stigma the kids are is really eager to do it to do a lot of things now if you went to fth grade they might not be but it's instant the teachers know right now where the kid is and what kind of if they've progressed or whatever along with adopting this screener we were able to um purchase some lessons that go with that so in addition to that each individual kid has an individual lesson path that we can use for intervention purposes so specific

155um it drills down specific skills and then kids can do specific lessons around that so it's a very amazing supplemental process that we use in addition to our Core curriculum no it wouldn't have been possible without the grant so it's awesome thank you thank you anything else okay uh Katie uh anything uh anything for for the board here no thank you okay and thank you for your time um well with that we're done meeting jour for
