supports the south we have a hard time fielding teams and so again that's just the generation right like it's not going to be able to go to high school and you're going to have 500 kids out but when you put them together you'll be able to feel more teams too and so so it's hard to market that right to do all this better because you want people want to hear we're going to add five math classes and 10 spanish like we're going to do that stuff and it's not so much that it's that kids will actually be able to take more of the classes that we offer and that's because you got more signed up so they're teaching more different times yeah yeah more signed up being more teachers willing to offer those sections it

doesn't make for a great smoking but it would make for much better education um so for the rest of the new building um a season number for parkings and drives tennis courts tour football stadium which includes a locker concession a restroom building that's all within the number nothing those aren't broken out separately here baseball and softball fields those are turf with lights in a soccer and football practice field grass so they can use the stadium since its turf an outdoor support building similar to what you have the two schools a lot of storage eating outside then some placeholders and allowances signage fencing those things that you'd have on campus we did include the land purchase price and the solar panel array was a carryover that's been there i think from some previous studies in previous

work which is one thing that we weren't a part of but it's just kind of a carryover so we have that there plus contingency plus escalation so that's the bulk of this option but what's right below it is what i alluded to when i started so where it says for reference those are pieces that we hold out separately just as talking points because they were questions that were given to us in our meetings that just kind of came up you know what would the auditorium only be what would the field have to be what would the competition jim be and these i guess you have to to realize on that conceptual plan that we just proved that would work these are square footages that we pulled from that plan so like when i say competition

gym or field house that's just the floor area of just that piece obviously locker rooms go with that restrooms go with that corridors go with that but that's we will be guessing at a number to try to include those spaces you could build on day one a gym and four sets of locker rooms and then just add on a field house or you could not go to the locker rooms add on two more with the field you know there's lots of options so for the sake of a study and discussion i just pulled square footages of just those floor areas so i just wanted to try to clarify that um i mentioned the classrooms if you reduced most of them from from 900 to 800 just again as a talking point since that's one of

the differences between your current buildings and what we would recommend or draw from day one on a new design what if baseball was grass or partially grass there's two numbers there if you do it all in turf or just in field baseball fields are actually in turn if they're more than football field or bigger areas so that's that's actually a common kind of misconception there's a point so i wanted to point that out that's why a lot of fields are just in field because it's quite a bit less to do just an infield than a whole field compared to football and in a softball there if you didn't grasp instead of turf so again none of these numbers are included in the overall they're just they're just separate line items separate talking points maybe there's

more there might be more solar might be no but they're just a separate discussion point that came up while we were talking going back to the original yep the high school area when you come down here to auditorium you feel like how many gyms are in the original high school basketball so the competition gym is one main gym with bleachers and then two cross courts practice courts the field house has three courts in it that would be an additional two of what correct so yeah if you were not using the main competition gym just all um wreck gyms erect courts you'd have five two in the main comp gym and then three in the field house in this scheme yep so one competition gym main main gym court you know if you had the bleachers

out one event or put the bleachers back two crossboards like you see in most most places and then a three-quart field house so that would be an addition to what the other thing is okay correct so there's not an auditorium included in there is yeah so those are pulled out yeah [Music] worded that wrong so these are for reference only everything that's in the list is included above they're for reference if you were talking like yes yeah if you were to pull them out okay okay that makes a lot more sense to me yes i thought it was scott i wouldn't tell you certainly all right so in my in my head writing it made sense i can see that's wrong that's just if we wanted to delete something out of this 106 correct that

would come off of that one yeah so these are essentially savings they're deductions at least that's a test it wasn't they on that field house thing that's not even close to a 200 meter track three quarters it would take a lot more than that no i mean a lot of it depends on the overall width and geometry of the space so yeah in the conceptual plan um conceptual's too strong i'm worried in the in the bubble diagram type plan that we have um it's not laid out to that you could put a trap a walking track i would not call it a run yeah that that part you know we haven't gotten that far yeah it kind of depends on people's definition of a field house and what creeps into it and bleacher you know

it just depends on where it goes so yeah everything in the reference is included above there's an auditorium in the design there's the band rooms there's the locker rooms to support all the athletic spaces there's a training room there's all those things that support it everything's turf above in the original top number um so everything down below is just if you were to pull it out as a savings or or say what's that cost by itself type number takes a lot more sales yes yeah as i'm typing it okay let's get here the last page so then in this scheme you build a new building it's 912 for the district uh northfield and southwood junior highs now would become pre-k through eight over time the other buildings you wouldn't need to invest in necessarily and

keep going for you know a short period but as you're doing that transition you would not need to invest as you would in option one where everything stays the same so that's the huge difference you know in this scheme so i mentioned at north and south to become pre-k and k classrooms you need to do restrooms within those spaces and that's taking over existing classroom space wherever it would make sense in the building adding the restrooms it's not additions it's not adding on it's doing it within your building so that's that's those uh those numbers um still doing the secure office edition renovations that's exactly what we had the other number just times two what what is that what are we trying to do there uh right now when you walk into kind of that

arcade area with the logo you know you can get in and go anywhere so it's controlling a person coming in we did a design quite a few years ago where we took over part of that and part of the courtyard next to where your offices are so as a person will come in they're totally controlled into the reception of the office before you have to release them then to go into the building elsewhere so it's not just having like the camera and the buzzer right like you do now the door you know if you get buzzed in boom you can do it if i come in at 9 30 in the morning to drop something off i have to get buzzed in i have to go physically into the office and then let back into

the building and that way they are created i guess there's a physical person there versus they could go anywhere before they come in contact with somebody uh at the office we do those a lot of different ways this one is just based on that design because we have done it in the past and a lot of schools will take over like a group of classrooms right next to an entry on the exterior wall you know then flop the space rebuild the classrooms but now your offices is on the outside so i come into a vestibule and then i have no choice i have to go to the office so you can choose to let me in or not based on the needs yeah that's what that is and that design was done when you did

the facades of norfolk and southern correct correct yeah is it more than ten years yeah it's been a long time sam yeah i'm just like not going to spend that much money he's good but just getting out there graduating yeah well it was after you guys left we decided to do that the other items there that you see are the pieces that would make sense to do to those buildings that were in option one like the asphalt repair that ethis on the building those sorts of things just again times two in this option because it's the same at both schools so windows doors asphalt masonry and the e fist the thing stuck on the outside basically all of this would have well not all that's incorrect some of this would have to be done in

what time versus building a new school to build a new school and then this would be retro done into those buildings i mean it could be done concurrently it could be separate projects what you know say three years down the road what i mean we still have to keep everything else operating up until that point what things do we foresee that's still going to have to be done or fixed in that time so some of the things that we left off of an option like this is things that like cpf would pay for uh we've done almost your roofs at the other buildings except sharp creek's a little different so there's there's things that are good for that period of time you know there might be smaller things that just have to be done along

the way we couldn't account for all of that because he wouldn't necessarily need to deal with some of those big ticket items things that we could say we're not going to make it three years you know with this you know like a roofer yeah i think any of those you could make it the three years you might need to band-aid things a little more here and there um but i don't think [Music] yeah those are turkey questions you know looking at such an investment like this and a new building and looking much longer term yeah some of those schools have really benefited from some work even if it's for a few years but then three years later you spent let's say half a million doing something well it's a big chunk if you could get

along for three years and not need it i mean those are those are tough to um identify and you might see you know different ways so what i included on on this top for north and south are what we think would be needed for those buildings to to invest in them use a long term for this scheme you know so for instance i did not show renovating a boatload of locker room space that you have if you go pre-k 8 you wouldn't need to do all those locker rooms now eventually you might choose to but for this scheme and on day one you certainly wouldn't need to spend that money so that's kind of the logic that we used for this and then the same the same exact scope for the for this building and

a new storage building included in that so that's getting like a bigger office [Music] if you want to walk around i can show you where people are cornered just crammed in a corner and have no privacy when they probably need privacy in their position so that's the challenge we have a lot of open spaces with people having to have confidential conversations with people well scott i'm okay with my lavender office though we never changed it for six seven years that's the big quick picture happy to answer anything i can or even after tonight taking more stuff we're happy to always there was infrastructure kind of put in a little bit into this absolutely yeah the like for a brand new building that cost per square foot includes utilities to the site and all those things

if something is excessive let's say gas has to come from a mile away that's a different story but you know things are essentially there that that includes that stuff it includes general sidewalks and paving and those things not extra parking it like stadium parking that's why there's separate numbers there for some of that but it does include the general cost and earthquake of building a building yeah general earthwork we are actually chris and i were talking before the bill before we started about like getting soil borings so getting it's always a good idea um for the land purchase uh would be smart probably to get a few you wouldn't need 50 or anything and we can kind of help with locations that might be smart now if a project moves ahead we would recommend a

whole lot more um you know probably on a grid to some extent where we think we're building where's asphalt where a building is because by that time you need to know if there's a big pocket of muck somewhere that you could avoid with a design avoid it so you're not wasting money on dirt um but yeah for the sake of the land purchase you wouldn't need that and then once a survey is the same thing once it would move ahead into a real project definitely to survey the whole site you know we need that information but you wouldn't need it for the land purchase just one sporting event that we don't use a little bit with like a pool you don't have that in there right correct maybe we just make the retention [Music] [Laughter]

it was a lot of money money and a lot of maintenance they're expensive on day one and they they're always i agree with that though it would be great i mean it's it's something that you know you see a lot of i mean obviously we're there's uh several schools in our conference that have them i didn't realize that that had one buried in the middle of that building just you know just extra competition other programs you know basically it's we can ask for donations for that part of it yeah if you break down all the athletic facility costs in this it's significant already yeah yeah i hear the bum in football through doors i think it just bears repeating that option one is a lot of money to get us to where the buildings are

efficient and addresses nothing about our programming agency not just programming but little things like well why doesn't that basketball coach get paid as well as the one at that other school that has one high school that we're paying two head coaches and we don't have to in this situation so not you know sports there's sports needs to be considered but there are a lot of other things first but my my point is that we haven't really talked about anything important yet if we do option one no it doesn't fix our problem with having two needing two spanish teachers that's been the struggle because not it's not only the students that can be the issue with not being off the program but then you have to have the teachers licensed to be able to teach that

course and you know we're doing some finagling now just with within the high schools to try to keep some of the programming but it may come at a cost of losing some of the programming so how many courses how many i guess basically how many different programs do we have right now you can just combine one to one class how many in our high schools every single one of them it's hard for me to think of one we cannot we wouldn't do that with english maybe would be one but even yeah i would say english should probably be the closest but all of the others [Music] pretty easily really it was hard actually to sit and talk about room spaces because you know realistically we would not need as much staff as we wanted but

we didn't want to count that way because we're hoping with additional staff we can offer additional opportunities and so because we're not hard pressed to pay our staff um and so that was a that was kind of a juggling act to get to that like like i'm saying like it wasn't formal but just the ballpark and i scott i know one one thing that i can answer for that and i don't know what the numbers are recently but i know when this board first started hearing your critical mass come out of kevin's mouth thank you the uh the thing that we were looking at is that between northfield and sophomore we had at least 50 sections a day that met with less than 10 kids and so by looking at a single school the possibility

existed that we could combine those resources provide those kids and then have instead of one teacher teaching you chemistry at one school and one teacher teaching chemistry at another school then combine that have one teaching in chemistry and one teaching ap chemistry or chemistry two or you know different options that we just can't offer at this point because we're so spread out and i guess i don't know what those current numbers are for sections less than 50. probably less than 10 but it's probably fairly close to that i would guess it's changed much but but i feel like that is a it is a source of challenge but it's a source of pride um we work really hard to tell to let those classes go and sure not many school districts would invest the money

to do that they would just cut it but we don't and so even classes of two sure and it's nice that we can be able to do that but it's a two-edged sword schools in the past have talked talked to us and i've talked to them 12 to 15 is what their cutoff usually is so when you think about saying 50 reducing 50 sections would not be good you know they would not be able to take anything right that's why but we can do that and people like to talk about the ap classes so just because it's kind of like the sports it's easy to picture that but it's your business classes it's your ag classes it's your industrial arts like it's all of those classes that we really want kids to have that make

it really challenging and so people i felt like the last time i had this conversation people really last time we're doing this all for those kids well this trickles down to pretty much every program headlines he has i think english like i said english is probably the safest one where we are able to bunch things together but even there we have an object speech speech and drama because like chris pointed out as we get smaller with our staffing you have fewer people to to coach and to leave those extra curriculars right like um that we feel on our kitchen team and so all right coming out to finish up here just get started our next year about four minutes so we thank you adam for coming and thank you going over that with us so

i appreciate it thank you yeah absolutely let me know any questions happy to keep working and answering everything again great another [Music] break
