001but i pledge allegiance to the flag of the united states of america and to the republic for which it stands one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice for all i'd like to welcome everyone we got a little bit of a crowd tonight future board meetings october 12 november 9th and november 23rd of our regular time of 6 p.m and all year we have no review we do have a revision to the agenda under new business and we also have a couple of things under the hr report so we'll move on to public recognition we have a recommendation to approve a 200 gift certificate from lakeshore learning from metro north elementary's involvement in the early learning indiana quality program study i believe motion one second to approve the 200 donation wallpaper say hi school
002recognition okay a couple things i want to say first of all with the school recognitions um number one next month we will start and bring back our staff spotlight so excited about that and so that will be a part of every board meeting we did suspend that last year due to codewood but we're bringing that back and then this year with our principals as you know they came and saw us and shared their school improvement plans and then throughout the school year they're always welcome to come every night but they're assigned one meeting and they're just going to just present something just briefly about what their program with their school they may do it themselves it may bring somebody but tonight that's going to be actually mr mcdaniel but before he goes i want to
003have mr snyder state some of his recognitions that he posted and then i will do a couple that south of elementary did and then i'll turn it over to mr mcdaniel so mr schneider and i have kids here too i thought we're doing that yeah you can do those schools okay all right so at northfield we had patti france get a special recognition each year the indiana choral directors association provides opportunities for high school choir students to audition and participate in the indiana all-state choir that sings two major performances for the convention it's held in fort wayne each january we're proud to announce that northfield's addison france had auditioned and successfully made it into the allstate choir she is a junior at northfield and she's been in the choir since seventh grade she sings in
004the upper level ensemble a cappella choir in the audition she had to prepare a section of music from a medieval song in latin and sing it as a song wow and she also had the sight read a small section of music that she had never seen before she was judged on tone vowel spacing consonants musicality and stage presence having successfully passed the audition she will have four rehearsals with the other all-state choir students in the wabash area and then the entire all-state choir will sing on january 14th and 15th at the embassy theater up in fort wayne so there are up to 400 other high school students from across the state so we're proud of her and want to say congratulations as she represents northfield for the all-state choir we also wanted to congratulate our
005football team it's been a number of years but friday they were able to win against wabash during our homecoming night game and so then over the last three weeks they've secured wins over southwood manchester and wabash so we wanted to say congratulations to the coaches and players and good luck the rest of the season so we kind of considered that being counting champs and in football at northfield as you know over the years that's not something we've been under able to do very often so we wanted to congratulate them and then last week was just a busy busy busy week with homecoming week but i want to say a big thank you to staff and students we had homecoming week we had student sponsors taylor zimmerman who's our new history teacher and sabrina master science
006teacher who our student council sponsors they uh voted on some themes and decided that the kids voted that it would be through the ages so monday they were all like babies in pajamas and by the end of the week they were senior citizens and then friday of course was wear your blue but i think the kids had fun with it and then student council also held a pep session in the gym for 30 minutes of course we had to have junior high high school separate but it was nice we didn't get to do anything like that last year and we also had a homecoming dance for high school only following the football game and after that we had we also had picture day on tuesday so we had to watch the dress-up days and we
007had college and career go week last week so the guidance department had activities on top of the homecoming activities to recognize college and careers so i want to say thank you also with all that going on we have tracy kennedy megan mckillop and alice and king in the office and they kept everything organized all week and they even had phones down for one day and kept everything going so i really appreciate their teamwork and organization no matter what's going on i just think they're amazing the three of them worked well together this year because as you know this is no small retired and it was a little bit different staff and they're doing a great job in the office keeping everything going so good job by everybody last week making a fun week for everybody
008thank you and you are correct mr snyder this uh we were originally going to have the next principal on october 12th but that's the e-learning day and parent-teacher conference day that's why we doubled up so yes um so i think mr mcdaniel you may need to leave pretty soon is that okay you're good okay so um i guess mr steiner won't you go ahead and do your presentation with the people that you have here tonight well the program program we have uh sophia holland do you mind having them come here they can't stand over there and they are key club sponsors and when i had wanted to share a program this is a program that's been really big in northfield but with cobit and the pandemic it was kind of down and they all had
009a goal of let's get key club back building this year so they've had a chance to talk about peacock so that i let them have this chance to talk about what they've done and what they're planning to do this year okay so far we had a bake sale at the homecoming game we made almost 200 off of that it was like a donation so we did really well um katie till from babe of wabash came in to talk with us during the whole room over the summer we washed bottle caps i don't remember the organization but they make bottle caps and they turn them into benches i believe southwood house one [Music] [Laughter] [Music] to write this down because i set up hit it for homeless and i'm afraid to keep close saying that yeah
010and um but head over homeless was a thing where i had a ton of people come and i had them pay ten dollars to get in to this like like a ton of different tournaments so that they could like have fun but like all the money that we raised up which was like a thousand and two and sixteen dollars or something i don't remember but we gave it all to um lighthouse missions so that they can have more money in their account so that they can build the homeless shelter they want to go in wabash county because they don't have one yet and so things i'm planning on doing this weekend is 1812 so we'll be it'll be a field trip on friday we'll be going i know i'm doing all three days i don't
011know who else is and then usually every spring we go down to metro and we do what we call a book walk basically we take like a picture book and we put it on posters and then we read it to like the kindergarteners and the first graders we haven't been able to done that we haven't been able to do that because of copic but i'm really hoping that we can do it this year um last year we did get to do operation christmas spirit where um we are given cards with like things kids would want but they don't normally get for christmas and then we'll go to walmart and we'll buy those things for them and then we'll take it to some place in roblox we'll also be doing the chili cook-off that we do
012um i want to do more of the cleaning of the bottle caps it's in the basement at low docks it's kind of a weird place for it but that's where it is i also want to get out there and like clean up a park because i know some of our parks in wabash are dirty and like they have trash everywhere so one of my goals for this year is to get out like a weekend and just clean um coming up in november key club has something called key leader it's basically where our club goes and we get to meet people from all over the state of indiana it's so much fun it's at camp tecumseh this year we have done nice to shine in the past okay dr shine is a like school dance for
013people who don't normally go to normal dances it's for like for the special yeah special needs yeah and it's like a great place to like have them all come together and just like dance together that's awesome i think it's at northville this year no i think it's uh wabash or soccer or manchester united i thought we had a plan for north philadelphia oh there's plenty to be more than one you know i have no idea [Music] and then one more thing i would like to talk about is at shark creek we have what we call okay kids it's basically key club but like elementary school level and we've done that in the past but i want to get it up and running again because they've been really strict with it these past couple years and
014i don't feel like it's getting the people that need to be involved in it so i'm going to try to fix it up a little bit so as mr schneider said this is sophia holly she's our eighth grade representative asia miller who is our bolton editor natalie keller who cannot be here is our vice president brooklyn stout is our secretary treasurer and i am the president thank you for having us before you go on and um a couple questions first of all were all of you in k kids when you're at shark green uh no they didn't have they didn't have cake kids they actually started it a couple years ago but she was president and so what are you planning to do at um um so my church who is the wabash christian church
015downtown we have a booth where we make fried bread and apple butter and pance cider it's elephant ears but we don't really call it that so you're doing that through your church though is that the same thing with the chili cook-off then yes because i know wabash key club also does that sometimes all right as a quantity i really appreciate all of you and what you're doing to try to you know keep i mean the k kids at church creek and i'll obviously see what you're dealing with [Music] [Applause] do not have to stay but you're welcome to stay awesome so i'm going to as we're transitioning maybe a little bit i'm going to read um southwest elementary's public comics here and then i'll let mr snyder take over so first of all from mr
016um says congratulations to our sixth grade girls volleyball team for the recent tournament victory in this selma sixth grade volleyball invitational overall the team is having a very successful season which wraps up next week we appreciate the time that head coach elitist persian assistant abby denny and others have invested in our student athletes during the season and south of elementary would like to recognize and show our appreciation for the two professionals who spend most of time in the little knights classroom this is uh teresa corell who works with teacher shelby drake in the four-year-old class this is abby seiders who works with chelsea kirkland in a three-year-old class when either of our teachers are is absent from her position for a day mrs carrell and mr siders assume the role of the classroom teacher while
017sub fills in for the very professional role both mr carrell and mrs saunders are able to make this a seamless transition because of the great work they do with our little nights on daily basis we appreciate them so readily stepping into the role of teacher when it is needed congratulations all right mr mcdaniel you're up okay well a couple of weeks ago i got this card in the mail it's a picture of the 1939 season finale detroit lions against green bay packers and inside i got a note dear mr mcdaniel the nights in the fall of 1963 when i tried out for a qb cut by a coach on the third day looked a little more well equipped than the 1939 lines my class was long ago second to graduate at southwood 1964. i retired
018last october from 47 seasons broadcasting hockey and during that time was fortunate to receive eight national play-by-play innings i closed a picture if you think the school would like one of them perhaps the 2014 one 50 years after southwood i would be glad to send it said they have no plans to travel anywhere soon but they come in in luxurious boxes up to my camera and so here's the picture so i reached out to him by email and so we should be uh displaying one of his emmys which is really really cool his father i think was the principle of building a at one time and then also uh he was a sophomore so we spoke at our uh to our staff and students uh say eight or nine years ago so very very cool
019let's help me share that with you i lived right across from school and i got the house said one time when he was on vacation with [Music] uh so just like mr snyder we had uh we celebrated our homecoming last week and so it's also college and career goal week so lots of dressing up students dressed up as memes cowboys tie-dye class colors and then southwood school colors uh we weren't able to have our bonfire and our powerpoint football game due to what they're not cooperating with us but we did have peach fuzz volleyball and a loud and energetic pipe session so it was a lot of fun it was good to move back into that we'll see it so i'd like to thank mr johnson and mr stetter the student congress sponsors so it's
020a lot of fun also for the college and career go week we celebrated our kids um going off to college and going off into the workplace and developing their skills and i went back and i looked at a little bit of data 46 of our senior class uh takes classes at heartland 44 of the junior class and 24 of our sophomore class take classes at harvard career center also the data of our ap exams reflect that 54 of our kids earned a three plus three or higher on that examination so that guarantees college credit and that doesn't include the kids who are taking the dual credit classes through uh us history and um english 12 which accounts for a uh i think it's a w-131 through iu code so that's pretty cool i also wanted
021to congratulate um talk about our football team being out of champs this year but uh i'm chase schneider uh i will celebrate um last week tuesday we were able to beat northfield um and then thursday would be uh wabash this thursday we play manchester so hopefully we have a positive outcome but i did want to give a shout out to jay's kids because they had they had some really funny chants they were they were just funny and warmer and silly we had swept them in jv and then as soon as our varsity came out northfield scored the first point and their kids started chaining scoreboard so there's a certain chance well we our kids at uh southwood got up about 23 or 24 their kids started chanting warm up the bus and so it was
022just it was funny it was a good atmosphere it was it was just fun it was just fun so um good week last week with all of those activities what i wanted to talk about was something new that we're doing this year one of the things that we always look at is that that group of students who aren't as academically inclined not performing as well as i think as they should to that end when you're in high school getting credits is the thing that's that's what you've got to have you get your credits get your 40 you're on pace to graduate and so every two to three weeks or so we run an athlete we take a look at the kids for advancing classes in years past we charted that data and what we noticed
023from two years ago during that pandemic shortened year during quarters one two and then that semester that that data compared to the following year last year coming back from the uh the school the short year our f list numbers were really really increased and so what we did is we dissolved our bit team our behavior intervention team that looked at academics and behavior and we created a grade level team meetings so seventh and eighth grade teachers met once a month uh 9th and 10th 11th and 12th and so we looked at that data we looked at who was failing what we can do and then we always had a resolution with each kid that we talked about so my personal goal for my evaluation is to have a 15 reduction each quarter kids work failing
024classes with that number total total number of classes and so to that end these these meetings have been productive where i think we're being more agile in addressing some of those kids needs and we're collaborating more and so a lot of the information about some of our students is more widely shared with people who need to have it and so i haven't we haven't ended our our first quarter yet um but if we were to end it today running the list we would see a 21 reduction this year compared to last year this time so um i think a lot of that is the work that we're doing but i think another part of it and i think kudos to the board for giving giving us the opportunity to be in school regularly and the
025policies and procedures that we have in place this year have certainly certainly killed me so you're thinking 15 every quarter fifteen percent so you compare 20 21 to nine that's all right if you're twenty one percent just okay that's right all right well thank you very much to both of you so um that concludes that part of our meeting so i guess we can go on and they're welcome to leave us if they want to but thank you that takes us to the public comments or gender night at the moment watching our facebook go on we will pause for a second we'll catch up to you okay we'll move on to consent agenda items approval of the minutes from our last regular meeting on september 14th the motion and second to approve the new year
026the immediate minutes from september 14th favor say hi financials claims the only thing i wanted to add with that is you saw a roof payment so i just kind of wanted to let you know where we're at in that process they finished the sections that they needed to complete at southwood and now have moved over to northfield northfield has a another section that they're working on which was all still part of the bid process so it may take them a little bit longer at the north field than it did at south florida uh to complete all that was done through the 2021 bond that we took out and on top of that as another part of what we were using the 2021 bond for was the metro north restrooms and so we had bids big
027notices put out we had a pre-bid meeting last week so that anybody interested could come in and take a look at those restrooms and then those bids will be due at the end of october and then we would bring something to you for approval or rejection uh of those bids in november to look at you know doing something with those restrooms did you have very little people uh we had five people show up so it's pretty good numbers they're pretty pleased with that we've had a few more that have shown interest who knows who will actually submit bids at that point in time but it was a good good first step steve anything you want to add i assume that when you paid to tell was just for the design that they're bidding on yep
028yep so it's ada compliant well we're doing alternative bids in there starting with kind of a basic alternative a basic bid and moving those alternatives up to a little bit more improvements because those restrooms do have the urinals that go down to the floor and so to replace those now you're getting into the walls and the floor which then requires to get the ada compliance and those type of things so those alternatives will be an option uh as part of the process once we get all those numbers in to make a decision on what we want to do that's all i had for claims payroll nothing new with payroll second to approve payroll financial summer uh gave you the just the cash flow uh for the operations and education fund layout so when we're speaking
029of the education fund there uh it shows everything up to date and what i mean by that is i've put in the potential raise increases that we're looking at with our tentative agreement the only thing that would be new would be abm changes because the adm representation there for the basic grant still shows what our estimate was back in the spring for 2000 students so we feel confident that our numbers are going to be pretty similar to what they were last fall so we could look at probably an additional 20 students from that 2000 count but that is not reflective in that so that would probably be about 130 000 increase if that number came back uh in that so you're still looking to end the year around seven million dollars probably not give or
030take october 4th is the deadline to have um everything completed for the pdm so that's next monday it's always good to see an increase in fund balances estimated by balance sure for sure you know who knows what the future holds obviously with that but i think we've gotten it in a good strong position to be able to make some improvements in teacher pay and staff pay down road operations fund i don't have anything new that leads us into finalizing the 2022 budget uh i showed you the slides that we already went over in the hearing the budget here so we don't need to go over any of that information again that was just more for your review to finalize the budget we'll need approval to adopt the 2022 budget as well as approval to adopt
031the bus replacement plan approval to adopt the capital projects plan and then approval to adopt the resolution for the form 4 which basically shows our appropriation budget and tax free impact so i guess i would just ask recommend uh approval for those four items you want to keep all these separate yeah so i'll make the motion to approve the recommendation for the 2022 budget that's been presented second motion on second to approve the budget for 2022 recommendation to approve the 2022 bus replacement plan i'll move to approve the best replacement motion a second to approve the 2022 bus replacement plan all in favor say aye aye recommendation to approve the 2022 capital projects plan i believe to approve the 2022 capital projects plan all in favor say hi all right recommendation to approve the resolution
032for appropriations and tax rates motion second to approve the resolution for appropriations and tax rates form four all in favor say hi okay moving on to personnel under resignation we have jessica freeman secretary at southport high school erica speakman paraprofessional at southport elementary bennett connier food service manager southwood high school amy schmidt technology assistant at southport elementary under employment we have megan ellis secretary at southport high school and under termination we have employee number 128 and you see the effective date of that termination that's all we have personnel [Music] to approve personnel recommendations all in favor say hi [Music] reports heartland career center report have something of course well just a little bit uh i won't have the technology teacher come in and show us their video of the drone that they were playing with
033such as that also in that class they're looking at having an ffa chapter but it would tag along with the other high school chapters so they're investigating that and i think that's a pretty neat idea because you get some programs that are really good they don't want to take away but but they gotta get through all the national and stuff to see if they can get that done so that's it and you'll let me know when uh they can come in yeah i haven't asked them but i wouldn't like when you've got a sprayer drone or you still have a smaller house i have no idea a lot of things have already been said and so i just want to mention a couple of things and speaking of the drones actually the 4-h they had
0344-h the 4th grade ag expo was today and had an opportunity to go both the morning session which was with south and 4th graders and this afternoon with shark creek fourth grade and they did have all the drones there and all the different activities it's just great to be back um to be able to do those things they did that virtually last year and of course it means so much more so that they can uh see that goes in the sheep and the tractors and drones and how they're doing the bees and making pizza and all those different things there's a lot of obviously there's a lot to farming a lot of technology involved with that a lot of different opportunities and also then last friday the k-3 and walk into my future at manchester
035university another great day and great weather for those kids to really have a lot of fun and experience what a i don't know if that would be a typical um college experience because they played a lot of games but uh some people do play a lot of games in college but um that's not why they're there necessarily so it's great to be back and having those opportunities for our kids to be able to go to those different places and appreciate the people that put all those on so that's really all i had tim has a lot built up for one time all right curriculum and instruction before we haven't seen you for a while so i'm sure you know i just wanted to give you some quick numbers um you're looking at the number of
036college credits our students earned last year so one thousand and almost one thousand two hundred college credits but that doesn't include the ones that they get through heartland um i could get those but they hand out quite a few um and so uh those are just as valuable but i try to focus on just the ones that we're responsible for through our school and of those then you can right now we had several ap scores you can see there i counted 37 exams with at least a three which then that's what most colleges except for college credit and i don't know if you remember last year i did purdue so this year i did indiana if you uh look at their their websites they just tell you they're just a chart just look if you've
037got this where you get this many credits from this course and so those ap scores would have translated to over 100 college credits and they would transfer applied directly to indian university but then underneath that you can see we offer lots of dual credit classes in our buildings and those kids going to those universities to collect those classes and so uh 1086 college credits won by msd students last year so just really proud i feel like we've kind of it's been a theme from the day like we have heartland kids and that's amazing we have kids who go straight with trades enlistments and then we have kids going to college like it doesn't mean anyone's better than the other we're just trying to get them all in the opportunities as we can so we just
038want to get all that data together make the world aware of those hangouts on that okay peaceable yeah all right so we're going to move under to new business first item under new business is a recommendation to approve the resolution authorizing appraisals of real estate okay as we mentioned in our work session we are continuing to study things through our strategic plan number four which is facilities and efficiencies and things like that so i'm asking for approval of this resolution i know you can read it but i'll read it out here it says resolution authorizing appraisal real estate whereas indiana code i will read all those authorizes board of trustees at the metropolitan schools for west county to purchase real estate after obtaining two appraisals of of the real estate and whereas indiana um another
039code prohibits the school corporation from purchasing any land for a price greater than the average of two appraisals and what that is that's here again that's all indiana code whereas the administration the school corporation has identified certain real estate located in wabash indiana is described on schedule one attached for the consideration to be purchased by the school corporation now therefore be resolved the board hereby authorizes the appointment of two appraisers to appraise the fair market value of the property and if necessary authorizes the use of such appraisals for any consideration purchase of such property so be it further resolved that the school corporation shall keep their appraisals on file the school corporation's offices for five years it further resolved that this board authorizes any officer of the board the superintendent of the school corporation or
040the assistant super finance school corporation to execute in order to attest any and all documents relating to the appraisal of the property so again there it is [Music] basically this is just a step in a study uh to see if this particular real estate would meet the indiana code of having those two appraisals and also uh not being you can't pay any more than the greater two appraisals the average of those two ratings so i do ask for permission to be able to consider now or not consider but to continue and have those two appraisals the appraisals would be done this fall yet then yes [Music] second move a motion in a second to recommend the approval of the resolution authorizing appraisals of real estate with any further discussion [Music] if not all papers say
041hi moving on to the teacher contract tentative agreement meeting all right um to go back in another indiana code and in a code um tells us that this has been the second or third that we've done this but we had a hearing earlier you have to have a hearing about the teacher contract prior to um going into formal uh bargaining which actually started september 15th you could have informal bargaining so that was the first step the second step then is once you reached a tentative agreement we have to have a hearing also for the tenant agreement the teachers have ratified already but we have to go through this process to make sure the board and the public knows what that tent of agreement is and then after that end of agreement if there's no other
042comments nothing that we need to look at then we will bring it back to you on october 12th to ratify officially through the school board to approve that contract okay so we'll just go over that pretty quickly here this was a this is just a slideshow basically you can see the overview as far as the new money of the contract increases in teacher salary also increases in most academic and athletic eca's and additional eca positions that have been created and then for 2020 2023 will be a base salary increase of one level um there is also a reopener in the contract to be able to negotiate salary increases above this level because this will be a two-year contract we've done this before this is the third year right chris that we've done third time we've
043done a two-year contract but typically we do open it up and the reason why you open it up is because you really don't know for sure what that abm is and what the revenue and expenses are going to be so it makes sense but at least you have a very good idea of what the second year could be look like you can see the salaries this year and i will want to thank dr chris kuhn also matt denney who they did a lot of work along with the other team mr daisy was representative of the school board also shelly myers and ryan sincroft a lot of this is about compression about relieving that compression so every time that we increased that starting salary and also because of some contracts and salaries that were frozen several
044years ago there was a lot of compression so we are relieving some of that compression with with the contract so you can see here on the second bullet every teacher was looked at to see how far behind they were on the current salary schedule this range from zero dollars to 11 000 in other words if they would leave msd of wabash county and they would come back to msd and we would put them on just like we would any other teacher that would be the difference or the range from the zero to eleven thousand uh but because of those increases in the in starting salary and because of the salaries that were frozen earlier that compression happened and that's happened all over the state of indiana with many many contracts just the way it's been
045done so with the new state laws for teacher salaries the starting pay must be raised to 40 000 by 2022 so our starting salary will be 39 000 as a starting salary and then next year it will be the 40 000 as per the new law which means that row a which is 39 000 right now would be eliminated it would just be 40 000 at the beginning so the top the salary schedule will move to 65 3 which presently it's 63 8 for the masters and 60 000 for bachelor's and the difference in the master's and bachelor's is a change go on here salary increases everyone will receive a 500 base increase and then based on that compression um there are other increases whether they were compressed nine to ten thousand you can see
046it's five thousand seven eighths four five to six three four to two is our four thousand is two thousand and one to three is one thousand so everyone will receive five hundred and it can be up to fifty five hundred so i already explained that so basically that that explains that uh what that means right there so 39 000 and then the other raises so eca's increased a total of 35 000 so the head of athletic coaches to increase the 7 000 for football and basketball while other head coaching positions were increased to 4 000 and baseball softball each had a 1500 added for the varsity assistant coach because that was not in there at the time and then all assistant pools were increased based on the number of varsity systems either approximately 300 or
047100 fifth and sixth grade positions were increased as well almost all the academic eca's of course were increased um there were a lot of work done in the years previous so it wasn't as much as what it was previously but it was increased we added esports coaching position for each high school and the clay target lead was increased to 900 to more accurately represent its growth because there has been a lot more growth than that more time involved so um dr cooney you want to mention anything else no you did a lot of work on the actual contract the actual contract is on our website for people to review that's part of the process as well we had to put it on the website and just a reminder that we do have to follow what
048the uh herb board they gave us a rubric which i said before the rubric is longer than our our actual contract but we did follow that and we had someone look it over and so we feel like it's it's going to be it's going to meet all the expectations that ferb is asking for so i know that you can't read all that but it is on our on the screen so there we go so everything is reflected and talked about and i know we're not going to vote on this tonight um but i just want to encourage you to to take a good look at this i'm kind of i'm excited because this is the second opportunity i've had to be the board for a person representative for the teacher negotiations and so from hearing
049that and also from talking to teachers over the last few years there's been a great deal of frustration over the situation that was caused by the compression of discoveries resistance and being behind and what that looks like for teachers who would come in and do this with the same experience and do the same job and the pain discrepancy and so this makes up a great deal for that did we take care of the whole issue no not completely okay we're moving towards that right because some people as as we mentioned earlier or as uh mr key favor mentioned earlier there are some people that were eleven thousand dollars behind yeah we're trying to get we're trying to catch them up but we had to you know because of the amount of money that we're talking
050[Music] so if you may if you're nine to ten thousand dollars behind we're gonna make that five thousand it's a good dollars step [Music] obviously we couldn't afford to do it all at one time and so this is a good first step hopefully in the future we can continue to take steps like this that's no guarantee but at least the shows that we're trying to work on and proving that it may never go away the problem compression may never go away because you're always having to at some point change your schedule right at some point 40 000 as a starting salary is probably not going to be competitive and so you know you're always going to have those adjustments from time to time but if we get something set for now it'll be easier to
051attack some of that compression issues and we have to be very financially healthy which we all know don't think uh matt's been on the board the longest here to see anything like this did you put an estimate to what that cost might be just a little over 500 000 of new monies that will be spent just on the compression component but just on this contract yeah the compression component was like 466 thousands and then there's another you know 40 000 um and as dr kuhn mentioned in earlier in the education fund balances the estimates have already been added in is that if we approve these we still finish the year at an estimated 7 million dollar balance so very excited on what we're able to do it's nice to be able to do that sure
052and you mentioned a little kevin it's nice to see our balances grow you know they've grown you know a million dollars i think this last year would be about 800 000 obviously that's going to shrink with something like this a little bit and it's all dependent on adm sound but we're meeting our other goals though too as far as having the cash on hand for um you know the hr are not hr but payroll in multiple multiple months years ago our goal was 12 or something wasn't it yeah we're waiting that's a long we're way over that yeah but that was it we've adjusted our goals to be what three months uh operating balance you know we want our imbalance to be three three months of expenditures so that you know if something does happen
053we can cover ourselves for that period of time i think we're a little bit over that but which isn't uncommon in a competitive business environment to try and secure that stability in that kind of three months yeah like six months [Laughter] okay so just to review the process this has been ratified by the teachers association yes we by law had to present this and so at our next board meeting on october 12th we will then officially vote to make this contract official and we and we will actually uh you know pending that vote um proceed on with some other activities to be able to make it all work and help payroll out and do all those things we'll start distributing contracts get them signed do kind of all that so they can look a little
054bit make sure they're right look at the information then you can have your signing party probably october 12. rest your hand a little bit all right so at this point there's no new nothing else to be uh done with this so we'll move on this is our machine right that includes our tentative uh agreement with your teacher contract uh we'll move on to the recommendation to improve the field trip for northfield ffa to the national convention on october 29 2021 in indianapolis motion and second to approve the recommendation for northfield's ffa to attend national convention all in favor say aye okay we have no unfinished business no board policy public comment on any of these items now so we'll pause and allow facebook to catch up [Music] i know we have talked about uh cycling
055through those occasionally and i don't believe you've done that you guys on the board those policies it was always kind of a frustrating thing but it needed to be done i think well one thing i could do if we were to do something differently um if you want though because three of you have been through this a lot i could go through those with them okay all right at a convenient [Music] time you can legally meet with you without violating any kind of reporting just to review any of that so and what i'll do though is i'll give it to them ahead of time and then we'll talk about it and give them a quiz as long as they pass we won't bring it to the board um but if they don't pass then we'll
056have to look at them again okay sound fair sure okay all right there's no public comment all right so we'll move on to the items and board numbers which i guess after recommending and four policies to be revisited so no items for many board members we're returned
