002dream that's something that i started reading we are reading a book together as a family we are reading stella by starlight by sharon draper it's about um a little girl who is lives in the south since like the 1930s and there's segregation going on and it's about her dad wants to vote in the election i am reading tristan strong punches a hole in the sky by kwami mabalia and it is awesome i love it so one of the books i'm reading is this book called pet it's by a quake in maisy the lord of the rings um which i've never read before some glad morning holding hope in apocalyptic times sounds very dramatic radical dharma talking race love and liberation braiding sweet grass which i've been really enjoying the souls of black folk by w.e.b
003dubois animal vegetable miracle by barbara kingsolver the mosquito a human history of our deadliest predator carry on by rainbow rowell and i really like this book because it is similar to harry potter simple abundance a day book of comfort and joy the boy the mole the fox and the horse and it's by charlie mcassy and i'm sharing a picture here with you of my favorite page in the book it says most of the old moles i know wish they had listened more less to their fears and more to their dreams yeah hi wildwood welcome everybody welcome miss wells for the annual wildwood reads assembly get one of our library friends in the background how inspiring to hear what wildwood staff are reading amazing some good suggestions i didn't realize it was going to go out
004to everybody like that thank you for that honor that's awesome and i guess a little bit later in the assembly we'll hear what students are reading lots to look forward to in this assembly so as we know we always start every assembly by welcoming everyone welcome all of you out there in wildwoodland and now miss estes and miss wells we get to welcome our new students here we go i can't wait this is leona she is good kindergarten and she likes to play with her lol dolls and friends outside and these are four students who are siblings one big big family we're welcoming so here's lyanna's big sister michaela in grade one and look at that smile she likes mermaids and gymnastics exciting and this is dustin from grade three and dustin likes to play
005minecraft and studying learning about dinosaurs finally the big brother joshua in grade five he likes playing fortnite taking photos pictures of mountains and hiking so welcome to all of you to your whole family and we say to you we are going to help you belong feel like this is your home here at wildwood yes rising stars into our wild wood sky so miss wells then next we take some time out just to recognize the shining stars the students whose staff members and i see your name is down for one who staff members are saying these are students that are shining and showing wildwood students how to be here at our school let's start in fifth grade speaking of welcoming john john alhassan and jihae were in a small group with joshua our new student in
006fifth grade after they got their work done they were all chatting and they asked josh about his interests isn't that amazing they just reached out to him and then they invited him to play after school with them later online so thank you fifth graders and another fifth grade star ava in miss being owen's room she's been so helpful with all of her family move members who've just moved into the wildwood community because these all these beautiful children they're related to ava it's gonna be so much fun and um she has had to show them how to navigate our new online school setting and ava has done a super amazing job focusing on her recent fraction subtraction work which is really complicated and this next one is from you ms wells i don't know if you
007remember janiece what she did all right i'll say it for you then okay here we go you do remember i know i do i do well i i was at arts lunch with denise and some friends and a friend couldn't get into their next class because they had some computer trouble and i was calling sheila enjoy i was asking for help everywhere and janiece is the person who figured it out she hung in there with us tech wizard and helped our friend get into the meet where they need to be future computer engineer amazing amazing yeah people are finding out new ways to help each other in their online classrooms [Music] yeah and their friends yes be friends yes so the next one comes from ms cara in art saying that bruce in sixth grade's
008a shining star in the a block he has lifted the whole group up with his enthusiasm participation and the positive feedback he gives to his classmates not only that he's a telf self-taught expert at brush ninja and generously shares his knowledge of animation with all of us me included says miss cara all right i'm looking you up i i'm imagining brushing my hair with ninja moves and we'll figure that out right okay this next one is a little different i want la familia de bella cruz rodriguez is we would like to highlight the la cruz rodriguez as a shining star estado trabajando mucho estos she has been working so hard these past couple months and has truly taken off as a learner and she has become a thoughtful mathematician who is eager to try different
009strategies and take on new challenges fiesta bella also just finished a fun creative story about two best friends who go to a party escritura she has been working tirelessly to improve her spelling and writing estamos de ella we are so proud of here yeah and miss miss allison you got a lot of shout outs in the chat from mario from set missing owen for your spanish translation way to go i always try i do the best i can and i want to thank ajadira torres manzano she is somebody a family member in our wildwood community and she helped me with if she did the translation and i practiced it fantastico all right so here we go you ready miss wills i'm ready i'm so glad starting this way with stars because i have some stars
010to recognize too welcome to our wildwood reads assembly we've been doing the wildwood reads assembly i think this is our sixth year nick is that right i believe so oh next gun okay great and this year i want to start by recognizing the wildwood who has really helped me distribute end the library program by helping us buy books for our backpacks and also distribute books and man or be at the delivery site at wildwood so there's so many people behind the scenes helping to fundraise to buy more dog man books for us because there's never enough dog man for us right and then we get all those dog man and reina telgemeier and new great books into the hands of kids so this month we distributed 330 backpacks and that was almost very close to
0114 000 books so thank you so much to so many people who have helped uh it takes a village right it takes a whole community um i'm packing the bags sarah's checking the books out working tirelessly all alone at wildwood in the days she's there with mr owen it's just the two of them um of course joe and q and raw they're moving tables for us shayla and joyce are making phone calls to remind people dan is driving the van so this is taking a lot of power our family our community has come together to make this happen and this was our fifth month distributing backpacks and this number is outstanding we have circulated almost 15 000 books nick do you want to guess how many more books checked out this year that than last
012year at this time so so you said more so that means that even during this pandemic during this time of online teaching we've checked out more books than last year at this time wow i'm guessing maybe just a guess three thousand you read it you've got it let me tell you the answer beforehand you got it right on the nose this time last year at the wildwood reads assembly we had circulated about 12 000 books so we're just at about 3 000 more even though it's just me and sarah in the library has been tremendously helpful and we couldn't do it without her you know we could i couldn't do it without all this help so so many thanks to the great people getting books to you guys fantastic thank you miss wells for sharing
013that great news we are a community of readers and that's what we're celebrating today so i understand you have a few surprises for this assembly i did i know one of the things you like to do in the last five assemblies is create some uh like participation like maybe a little game show is that you bet we'll do the game show in just one minute okay all right okay first we're gonna highlight our newest readers are first graders right and first readers and kindergarteners read this book with me oona it's new it's about a little mermaid named oona and her fun little sidekick and as we read we took pictures of our reactions to the story and then the next week in first grade the students made a story to go along with the pictures
014and we recorded them reading it so uh here we're gonna do three classes and we're gonna start with drew's class all right here's their reading you're on the awesome crazy class read by emeline and timons we are all we are all part of this we are all part of the same group oh we are all part of the same group even though we are the same class we have our differences anyway one day we were sad and loud and lonely and lonely and our classmates this is weird together one crazy morning our club our classmate showed up again we love our awesome class we are the awesome class we are smart and we're the awesome people because we learned over three wasn't that great fantastic first graders just learning how to read fantastic helping one
015another so that that was really fun to do with them we'll see more classes soon and i hope uh everyone's remembering to use the comments to be really positive and and say nice things about our first readers right very encouraging because we are all readers together and we're all learning together so that brings us to the next part of our assembly um and i'm going to let your yellow first grade introduce it it's time for a game it's time to play who is who because it is women's history month i'm ready to play wild wood cause the game is on wasn't that great so thanks ariella for helping me introduced our game and we are going to play together um this was created by second grade classes third grade classes and our friends at arts
016lunch so these most of these questions are written by kids and how we did that was we went to encyclopedia britannica and pebble go and we looked up biographies of famous women to celebrate women's history month and um we took some pictures also from sora a book called herstory which is really awesome if you check out sora there's lots of great um biographies and non-fiction but books about women you should know so oh miss catherine if you could slide to our first slide i'm gonna talk about how this that's oh yeah go back to that because you know i am the librarian that's my citation page everything i just talked about is right there so that's where our photos come from our maps and our pictures thank you miss katherine miss katherine knows we teach
