001and you are all set okay i'll call to order this meeting of the pelin school committee at 401 we'll start with roll call attendance ron ron menino here sarah best i did hear that but your volume maybe is really low for me i'm not sure if it was i don't know if you like issues um but i did that counts as being present uh margaret uh stance or present brenda brenda present and hall present all right um all right next up is approving the minutes uh we actually do have january 14th minutes which i purposely decided to wait until our next longer meeting so we'll hold off on that for now i did not receive any public comment so we can get straight into new and continuing business school choice hearing um so that well
002so yeah my can you t i i get it wrong i tried last year to explain it and you just had to take over so i'm just going to let you start all good so school choice hearing is an opportunity for members of the public to weigh in on what their feelings are on school choice given that this agenda was posted and there was no public comments of it i'll just use the hearing to express my viewpoint which will come as a surprise to no one that i would recommend that pelham continue to be a school choice district and that we actively engage uh the broader community and maybe even spend a little bit of resources time energy and funds to try to get the word out both about that school choice seats are open
003and also about the vote that you took uh two weeks ago about um pushing forward with in person in the fall so that's going to be my recommendation given that there are no public comments i'd recommend that chair hall move to the next item on the agenda so you can discuss the recommendation okay great any questions or comments before we move on to school choice vote okay um all right well i also support continuing school choice i know we've had a lot of conversations on this committee um so i will take a motion to continue using a school choice program for the next school year so moved second all right moved by menino seconded by stancer any further discussion okay um we will start with a roll call vote uh run kenny i margaret miss
004dancer i brenda brenda i and hall i all right the motion passes unanimously yes mike go ahead not to extend this uh expedited meeting but i think what we'll do i think lee offered some feedback sasha put together a draft of a school choice flyer um i think lee uh sasha told me earlier you offered some feedback we'll get that finished this week we'll put in the gazette and the um bulletin so that people are aware of that and then i know that principal whitney jones or i'm going to say lee in this informal setting has gotten inquiries as has members of the committee who have been in touch individually so now that this vote has taken place we can try to get that flyer out in all sorts of ways including the pelham press
005and other things so that um pelham families and staff can share that widely on social media and other places i think that would be our communication plan but i'm open to any feedback uh about that okay great yeah sarah best can you hear me yeah okay um so i i don't know if the ski pro program is on or it's not ski anymore was it let's talk um so maybe we want to include that on there because that is a pretty fantastic program that not upon many other schools have so good to oh maybe not in on the flyer yeah yeah okay got it okay yeah we'll see what we can do i think the space limitations make it a challenge to include all the wonderful things but i know we have a bloated point
006list and maybe we could think about how to put um some indication that it's a well-rounded curriculum and that we you know are interested in students well-being or something along those lines perhaps but yeah um it's just not as it's not as uh you know we say the let's talk curriculum and then people say what's let's talk and right so we're trying to figure out how to how to message the school pelham is without making people wonder what we're talking about innovative social justice and equity curriculum can be the anti-racist curriculum since that's really like newer language that might resonate with some of our our local towns who don't have that kind of curriculum that's great that's a great idea thank you thanks for both of those um and i i mean i know this
