Okay. Are you rolling? >> Beautiful. Good evening and welcome to the June 3rd, 2026 school committee meeting. Uh we are in Ashlin High School today and this is being recorded by WACA TV. Uh, the Ashman public school strives to be a model district that creates a culture of inclusivity for our diverse students and staff who feel supported, safe and supported, are empowered with the academic and social emotional skills to pursue their chosen path and to embrace their roles as positive contributors to local and global communities. Uh, order of business tonight, uh, opening procedures, uh, reorganization of the school committee after, uh, the elections from a couple weeks ago, then public participation. Action items include uh establishing the Cooper family Ashlin math educators fund, appointment of the superintendent to the board of directors for the accept
collaborative for the 2627 school year, removal of rec uh regulation AD 1.3R2 assistant superintendent for curriculum instruction assessment job description, an appointment of a school committee member to the initial assistant superintendent search. Uh reports and presentations include warrant approvals, superintendent report, consent agenda, approval of gifts and donations, minutes of the May 13, 2026 um school committee meeting and then reports and to adjourn. So uh first thing we need to do however is to reorganize the school committee. So I will open to ask if there is um a nomination for someone to become the chair of the national school committee for the 2627 school year or starting forward. I would move to appoint Mark Terry as the chair. >> Do we have a second? >> I'd second that. >> Mr. Terry, are you willing to accept?
>> I'm willing to accept. >> Okay. And we need a consent. >> Probably a roll call vote. >> Mr. Kendall. >> Yeah. >> I >> Great. Now I'm going to turn it over to Mr. Terry. Let him do the rest of the business. >> Make the announcement that you skipped right over, which is that we are being recorded by >> I did say that. I did. >> Thank you. That's the first thing I did as an intro. You want to take your vote now? All right. Thank you all. So, uh, next order of business is to identify, um, a person who will serve as the vice chair and then we'll do the clerk. So, is there a nomination for anybody to serve as the vice chair? >> I would nominate Paul. >> I'll second. >>
Any discussion? Paul, you Paul, you willing to serve? >> I I will. Any discussion? >> Call for vote. I don't think it has to be a roll call. >> Um >> I for me >> I >> And we need a clerk. >> Right. Kendall's happy. >> Clerk like the secretary. >> Yeah. >> Yes. >> Yeah. >> Um you've served that. >> I've I'm happy to do it if you need if but if anybody else wants it, I'm happy to hand it over to >> We all We all look the new person. Hey. Hey. Are you Are you gullible? Yeah, it's all good. >> You're so good at it. >> Very long. It's a easy lift. I'm happy to do it. >> Is that a formal? >> I make a motion for Tina to be our
our clerk. >> Is there a second? >> Second. >> And Tina, you're willing to serve? >> I sure am. >> Any further discussion? Call for the vote. All in favor? >> I um that takes care of our reorganization. >> Congratulations everybody. Um move on to the first substantive order of business which is public participation. Do we have anybody here? Period. Um and we don't have Zoom set up on the screen. Correct. >> Correct. >> All right. So seeing no uh nobody here for public comment, we'll move on to our action items. First one is establishing the Ker Family Ashlin Math Education Fund. >> Yeah. >> Adams. Yeah. So we've had a family uh whose long connection here to Ashlin. Uh you'll see within the documents that that we've shared with you um they would like
to create a fund called the the Cooper family Ashlin Math Education Fund with the purpose of funding math teachers for any educational supplies needed math programming for students uh and teachers um math clubs for extracurricular activities uh and to establish um a scholarship for graduating students who are planning to pursue a math education career. Um the family intends to start uh the um donation with a $50,000 amount. Um so we just need to set up this fund um in order to accept the donation uh and then to be able to disperse it and determine how the funds will be used uh by our faculty, staff and students. So there'll be a process for uh requesting the funding um you know so for professional development or for supplies etc. So, >> um, and so that just
to clarify, Jim, the the fund would be for districtwide programming, correct? Not >> specific. That is correct. It's not specific just to the high school other than, uh, the scholarship for the math education student. >> Correct. >> Yeah. And and and you said this is establish, but then you have to come up with >> Correct. Correct. whether we decide or the family continues to um fund or add funds to it or anyone who wants to donate to this specific fund uh for those specific purposes outlined here um uh in the document. >> How have we done other funds in the past? So, we've the the most I say the most recent and it's been a number of years was the helping our own fund uh where we um set up the fund uh specific account
and so folks wanted to donate specifically to that account uh and then families in need andor identified by counselors at each building uh throughout holiday seasons or tough winters, whatever it might be, right? Um we have a process of of requesting funds through that. Uh, and Miss Pavia Shield is here at the high school is the one who is the organizer of that. Um, but it still runs through our business department to get the funding. >> And do do we have a policy that says how we how we address these requests and how we do that? >> Yeah, we haven't. We do not, Paul. Uh, I have not found one. We should have something um and it should be created. We have just because we earmark it specifically through a vote. Uh, it's only designated
for that purpose. >> Yeah. So from a legal perspective, legal structure, what we're really doing is receiving a gift subject to conditions, right? So by accepting the gift >> um and we are committing to only using the funds for the purposes outlined in the in the letter. >> Um >> and and are we I didn't I haven't had time to fully read it, but you know, want to make sure that it's all copesthetic as far as >> Yeah. >> ex you know, if they said, "Hey, do you fund something that we would think is either operational?" There would be times where we might say, "Hey, this not this bullet or something like that." So, by accepting it, >> as it's written in a letter, are we bound to >> all of the conditions? >> These
are pretty open, Paul. Usually, it's at the discretion of the donor from an accounting perspective. So, establishing the fund is good. I guess my only and so I think it's fine like every reading all the points of what they want to use it for. I think it's pretty broad. So it you could direct it. Yeah, it seems like >> Yeah. And what we've done in the past is exactly that. It it we try to stay true to exactly what they're asking us to use the funding for. Um but it there's discretion on our end from administrative standpoint. Um if if someone asked for something that that might be on that edge of is it really math education? Right. Right. >> Maybe STEM education. Right. So how does it fall into that? >> And I'm totally
fine. Sure. But I just want to, you know, uh, understand this one, the next one, and make sure we're behind it. >> Um, you know, because it says this and but >> we should probably like establishing a scholarship. >> Yeah. >> What does that mean, right? Who who decides how is it done? You know, th those things and and just accepting the gift and without putting any of that in place, you know. So one other suggestion is often times you can write a thank you note to the donor that's contemporaneous and say thank you so much for your generous gift. We are going to use the funds in the following fashion and you document like how you intend to use them and outline um you can outline dollars andor you know purposes and that helps
Paul that also counts from a legal perspective as appropriate accounting >> and I'm there's there's legal component but also like u you know when we approve it maybe we approve it subject to coming up with >> right yeah we will have scholarship 100% % So we have a scholarship committee here at the high school and we'll make sure we have accepted scholarship funding in the past from a variety of donors right so uh there's a process that we use here at the high school so we'll make sure that that is followed and this family will be included in at least identifying right the criteria really for them is saying hey it has to be someone who's majoring in math >> education that's what they're saying >> I think from an administrative perspective like we have
to stay true to there the four bullet points on how the how that's done. >> Presumably, they're saying, "Look, here's the money. You you implement it. You administer it as a school district as long as it complies with these terms." And so, I think it certainly there's plenty of room for for the discussion with the family as to whether they want to be involved in scholarship or they're just saying you do it. Um, and and what they would want to have parameters, but from a legal perspective, we would be bound to the four bullet points that are on the on the letter should we accept the $50,000 cap. >> Yeah. involved. >> Yeah. Because partly they haven't really identified the x amount of dollars per year for the scholarship. So we will have to go
back to them to determine how much do you want in perpetuity for the the scholarship so we can fund out in the future. Right. >> I say hey $40,000 extra gone. That's right. >> Yeah. So >> all right. Uh any further discussion? >> No, I was just going to say we don't by accepting it then that becomes your administrative >> role. We don't have to create a policy around it that that >> but I think it is a valuable policy to have with regard to scholarships and donations >> but not specific to this. Correct. Right. Okay. Because the policy would say hey if you want to do this provide us this information and and it would say then it would outline that we expect Jim or or deleg some his designated formulate how they're going
to go about doing that. It would just set expectations. Right. >> Right. So that can be for future agenda. >> Yep. Yeah, 100%. >> All right. Is there a motion to accept um I think we're accepting the gift to and establishing the >> correct? >> So it's I think we can do that as one motion. Is there such a motion? >> So move. >> Second. >> Any further discussion? All in favor? >> I please do better. Thank >> 100% we will. >> Fantastic. >> Mr. chair. Uh on a subsequent meeting, we probably need to uh appoint a member of the policy subcommittee. >> Yes, >> I lost my uh >> my uh >> your cohort. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Those are the kind of things we'll talk about probably during summer retreat. >> Yeah. As
long as as long as Jim doesn't want to want to meet before. >> No. No. Okay. We're good. >> I don't think Jim wants to do anything except get through the rest of the school year. Everybody else >> we got a few things to do. >> I was just going to say I have a few hire. We'll get to that in the super report. Uh, next item on the agenda, appoint the superintendent to the board of directors for the except collaborative. >> Um, I think real quickly, this is something we do every year. Jim along with superintendent. I think it's all superintendents from the other member >> members um continues to serve. We just have to make the annual reappoint. Um, is there any discussion on the topic? >> No. I just again, you have
the opportunity as a member of of the school committee to send someone in mystead if you'd prefer. um that's how the the charter is written within the the collaborative. Uh it's really the um school committee member or designate which is the superintendent typically. But listen, if one of you wants to go to the accept meetings um twice a month and online and in person in Nic feel free it's fine. >> Um you can take my spot but typically no it's the superintendent who is uh sent uh to represent the district. I make a motion to appoint uh Superintendent HS as our uh to the accept second. >> Thank you. >> All right. Um any further discussion? >> All in favor? >> I passes and Jim just say that you know should you find a designate
that you want us to designate some point during the year, >> right? >> Should you wish for a designate, you have to have the conversation. >> The challenge becomes right. So we had this actually I give an example Bob Trembley from Framingham. he was doing a residency uh for a year in Framingham. So, he was in every school in his uh for the year where he couldn't really get to the meeting. So, he he appointed uh one of his assistant superintendents to be there, but they couldn't vote on behalf of the district because it's either the superintendent or a school can remember. So, so you got to be very careful with how we do that. >> Correct. I'm still stuck. >> All right. Uh, next item on the agenda, removal of the regula of regulation
AD 1-3R2, assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction, and assessment, job description. Okay, Shantel, for your benefit, we had talked about this >> at our last meeting. Um, this is something that was included in our policy manual, but really didn't belong there because it was sort of more granular than um than policy, but we hadn't put we hadn't framed it on the agenda in a way that made us comfortable sort of taking the vote on it. >> Okay. So we kind of kicked it down the road um to be able to deal with it. But is there anything anybody else wants to add on this just for >> No. And and for context uh we base our policy manual on MASC u master set policies and then we augment as needed. So a lot of these regulations
came with that master set. So there's a um the the way they frame it is there's a policy and sometimes there's a reference or something that comes along with it that's a little bit more pointed and this is just one of them and it had direct language that I don't think is a policy. So >> yeah, generally we do the policy and anything that's more detailed is administrative. So we wanted to just basically take it out of just lost our agenda. Um take it out of our policy manual because it's really not appropriate to be in there. >> Okay. So, is there a motion? >> I move to remove uh regulation AD1-3R2, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction assessment job description. >> Second. >> All right. Any further discussion? All right. All in favor? >>
I I >> I. >> And no opposition. Should probably be asking for the no votes. Um all right. And the last um under action item, appoint the school committee member to the initial assistant superintendent search. Mr. Adams. >> So, as you um remember at the last meeting, uh we have two searches that are uh running concurrently uh that both require uh under school committee policy uh a an an initial um interview search team. uh and at the last meeting for the director of student services, we appointed Tina to participate uh in the process for the director of student services, but we felt that we wanted to push it back and and and I'm going to step back and apologize, Shantel. Welcome. Um I I should have I should have started that with the meeting. Uh
welcome. Um so part of the policy is that that we you don't have to have one, but it allows for one school committee member to participate uh in the initial process. Um, and that process uh is >> what's what are the dates? >> I'm going to give that to you right now. I had it I was going to do it under um >> I'm out of town. That's >> Yeah, it's the um the interviews will be Tuesday, June 16th from 4:00 to 7:00. Uh and Wednesday, June 17th from 4:00 to 7:00. Those are the two dates that uh Miss St. Kerr and uh Mr. Rean will be running the the search from our standpoint. Uh, and for the director of student services, Miss Alman and Miss L. Chappelle will be running the searches. Uh, like
I said, they're running concurrently. Um, >> so 16th and 17th starting at 4, >> correct? And they'll most likely be here at the high school. Um, if we can get the air conditioning working. >> So the 16th will will it be will they overlap with the director of student services? >> Yeah. So director of student services will be Monday the 15th and Tuesday the 16th. Right. Yeah. So, we would need a separate member. And and to be honest, I I reached out to the the faculty, staff, and uh parents. And I said, "You need to commit to both. I can't have you just come for one and not hear everybody else." So, um so it's worked out pretty well. We have a really robust group so far. Um but we're we're lacking obviously in this
position here, school committee member. >> So, it is just worth noting for everybody's benefit because it's an assistant superintendent's position. That's our appointment. >> So everybody on the school committee will have an opportunity to participate even if there isn't somebody who's on the That's right. the sort of at the screening part of the process as well. >> Um so is there anybody interested and available >> to commit two days those 16 17 4 to 7 to participate in that process? >> I could if there's no one else. My husband travels the 17th. It's a little bit tricky but I could do it. >> Are you interested in doing it? >> Sure. Beautiful. >> Does anybody want to fight for it? >> I was basically going to say the same. I I I know I have
some people in town at work that week. I might be able to make it back. I have interest. But if you're more available, then I would rather it be somebody that can make it for sure. >> Yeah, I can. >> Great. Then then you >> So do we have a motion to appoint as >> and then you'll send information and correct details. Okay. >> All right. So we've got a mo a motion. Is there a second? >> Second. Second. Very. Any further discussion? All in favor? >> I. Any opposed? >> Thank you, Shantel. Thank you, Tina. >> All right, jumping right in. All right. Uh, Paul Warner. Get back to that. There it is. between May 14, 2026 and June 3rd, 2026. I Paul Kendall authorized by my signature payables in the amount of 766,933.32.
This includes general fund expenses of $515,839 $83953 revolving expenses of $245,61 grant expenses of $5,411.93 and meals tax expenses of $7585. Finally, I authorized payroll uh for1,55,84988. >> Thanks, Paul. Uh okay, Jim, superintendent report. >> Yeah, so I'm just going to give a brief update on a few things that are happening across the district, but let me just start with the two searches that we have. Uh and the um I'll start with the director of student services search. We currently have 24 applicants. Um, and the the initial search committee has been uh selected. Uh, they've all the folks who I emailed who had interest said they could make both dates. Uh, so I'll be sending out more information um probably tomorrow or Friday with regard to having just a a brief Zoom meeting with me
to talk about expectations and um introduce really Aaron and and Kate uh who will be running that search uh for us uh and and outline the process. High quality candidates for sure in there. Um, and uh, Britney, I as you know, Britney's here through August 14th, so she'll I I want to be clear, we're not necessarily we're not going to speed track this is I struggle having conversations with other superintendent about stealing folks this time of year, of course. Um, and if we don't find the right candidate, there are interims that are available. Uh, I think that's an important thing to remember. uh at least from the director of student services side, I think that's more of a reality to go down that path if need be. I don't think it will be, but if
need be. >> Um >> if this were to uh go well, are you thinking like a July one? So July 1 would be ideal but but when we think about administrative contracts uh some have anywhere from 60 to 90 days uh with regard to turnover. >> Um and the best case scenario is uh July 1, Paul, but I I would anticipate it's probably closer to August uh based on where we are. Uh and depending upon the role, right? So if it's a current sitting um director, they're going to need more 60 to 90 days, right? versus someone who might be a um a team chair uh whose contract ends at the end of the year typically, right? So, so we'll see um see how that pans out. >> Yeah. I mean, I obviously want some
overlap with >> 100% with and she and and to be honest, she will overlap uh no matter what. Um she's she's given me that um assurance that if we need to have some overlap, we can. Um but you know so the next >> if I can that and address both of them together. >> Yeah. >> If the interviews are the the interviews are occurring in that week of June 15th 16th. >> Yep. >> How do you see the time frame playing out from that because those are just week that'll be the first set of interviews. Right. >> Correct. >> Okay. So how do you see it playing out from there? >> So how I see it playing out is ident. So, we're going to bring in six folks in in both searches, right, out of
the the resumes, uh, which I am going through. I'm I'm going through all of the résumés, um, and identifying, making sure one, they have certification, two that, uh, and I'll explain it when we get to to Mike's position, really what we're focused on. Um but experience um I've had numerous folks uh of the superintendents call me with regard to references already uh on people that that they're like, "Hey, this is a high quality candidate. You should probably interview them." Um so then if we can get it whittle it down um from those six to two or three where then I'll have them meet with the administrative team. Uh, and if I feel comfortable only moving one person on, I'm hoping by June 24th, which is our last meeting, uh, in the last day of school,
uh, that I can bring them forth to the school committee for an interview. Uh, if it's two folks or more, we may have to schedule another meeting. Um, just because it's two two concurrent searches. Um, but we'll wait and see. I I I don't want to put a deadline on it. I want to do it right. Uh and if it means we have to do another um meeting and it can be via Zoom, it could be doesn't have to be in person, we can we can make it work. Uh but ideally that June 24th deadline and then gives me an opportunity to we have to go in executive session, talk about contract, all those things that that have to occur. So, >> and just I think process-wise, Jim, if you're >> if you're using this
the group of six is like the the group that's being considered, >> you have to bring I think at least two and maybe three candidates forward to deal with like open meeting law and otherwise the deliberations when you get down to that I think becomes like more of a public discussion than private. >> Okay. >> Um I have to look back there's a a determination on that from some time ago. >> Okay. um involving I think town of Westboro. I don't remember what position it was, but it may be that for what comes to us um we might need more than just one. >> Okay. >> So, it's worth looking at. >> Yeah. Yeah. Because the screening committee can do, but if the screening committee always just comes with one, it's not really >> It's
not screening committee anymore. Right. >> Okay. >> But that that said, I mean, there's got to be, you know, say only you only get three applicants and two of them are qualified. Right. >> For the for the last search like when Britney was hired, >> we did it all within the hiring committee. I don't remember them becoming before the school committee. So it does it need I mean for assistant superintendent I think that's well director. Yeah. The appointment position. Yeah. >> Actually the that's a that's school committee appointment as well. >> Correct. >> The special education director by whatever >> and finance director. Yeah. And if I remember correctly, what happened last time was the hiring the whatever the committee was called, >> the initial search. Yeah. >> Yeah. The search committee kind of uh
collectively came up with with one candidate that you then suggested to the committee to hire and we adopted your suggestion. But >> so we'll go back, Mark. I think it's a fair point. Yeah. >> We'll take a look at that. >> Yeah. So, so then transitioning into the assistant superintendent position. Uh right now currently we have 54 applicants. Um, so weeding through all of those, right? I mean, we have numerous um, applicants who are not certified, so I can clearly pull those aside. Um but with this search in particular uh as we look at transitioning uh with a new literacy program uh K through five uh I am I am really uh looking for that type of experience right that that has not only adoption of of programming but understanding literacy uh understanding um elementary
education uh my strength and my you know all my teaching background was was middle and high right so Mike has always offered that great balance for me being an elementary person. Um so from a perspective of uh our team that's certainly something that I I value heavily. That doesn't mean it has to be that person. It just means I value that in terms of what I'm looking for to round out our team. Um so uh again trying to keep it uh narrow it down to six folks uh for the initial interviews. Um and then after that folks come forward to our admin team. We're going to have a t opportunity to meet the as an entire team with the candidates before they come before the board. >> Uh I think it's important because you know
we had this conversation I think Mark you mentioned it and Paul in our last uh meeting through evaluation. I think one of my strengths has been building a good team >> and it has to be the right fit for our team. Um, and that's what we're working towards. Uh, identifying that individual who can, um, you know, fit in well with us. >> So, >> I'm gonna make an observation that I think the time frame of June 24th sounds optimistic. >> Oh, sure it is. >> I'm just saying. >> Right. Right. Yeah. Yeah. >> Just saying. >> Yeah. >> All right. It might be. And it might just be something again that we punt until a little further on in the summer. It's fine. It But I want to be cognizant. I'm the one who wrote
a letter to Tom Scott 12 years ago, 10 >> Well, and again two years ago. >> Yeah. That poaching folks in August is not appropriate. >> It's just not appropriate. And Tom uses my letter with the rest of the superintendents around the Commonwealth saying it's not appropriate. If you're going to pick up the phone and call >> and have a conversation with someone. So, I'm I'm trying to do my due diligence on that end as well. Um I want to be respectful of my my colleagues. It's a very small organization. So, >> well, keep in mind Tom's not the ED anymore. >> Well, Mary would tell you the same thing. >> Um, so, so that's part of my update. That's the, um, the searches. Anything questions on the search stuff? >> No. Okay. Um, the
summer retreat, I did send out an email uh, with regard to looking at um, dates. Uh, and it looked like we did settle on a date, uh, at least one, uh, and then we would balance whether or not we needed another, but I believe it was July 27th. Uh, worked for every one of us. Uh, the question I have to the board is would you want Gretchen to pursue um the Warren Conference Center like we have in the past um or use one of the schools? Uh, typically the schools are are just getting done summer camps. Uh, and there's a lot of cleaning, especially if we're looking at uh a building with air conditioning, etc. Uh, which would be Mendes. Um, they're going to be hosting um, some of the, you know, extended summer programming.
So, would you prefer I move forward with looking at that for a day? >> What has been the cost of of using a more conference center? >> It's probably a couple thousand dollars for sure. Yeah. I mean, that's the one thing I was trying to be cognizant of, too. Like I, you know, I I think we can really do a good job in the Mendes where we do our budget stuff >> and I'd prefer that personally. >> That's what I was going to say because I don't think they use the music room much with >> they don't with that. So that's that's not impacted by that. Right. >> Okay. So So we will make sure I just want Gretchen to book it through school dude to make sure that we have it booked. >> Okay.
Great. >> Just make sure. Well, that that air conditioning is on. You're right. Right. Geothermal stuff. So >> that's the one school we can count on. >> Get a little cooler. I know a guy. >> Yeah, we know a guy. >> And then the last thing I want to, you know, just opine on is that um I want to thank the community. Uh I I sent a letter um you know to the community with regard to the override uh in the conversation um uh that there was good healthy debate along the way and I want to respect that and I want to understand uh and and say to the community that that I I do understand that it's a challenge right now for everybody um to incur additional costs uh in taxes to to get
our our budget balance to really set us up, I think, for the next three to five years easily um in terms of how we approach budgeting. And Chris and I have had numerous conversations since the override vote. And um we feel really comfortable and confident that that what we asked for is the right amount. Uh the community was, you know, overwhelmingly supportive, 60 plus%. Um, and I want to say thank you. Uh, and I want to recognize that, uh, we are, and you know, Paul, I think you've said we're stewards of not only the the school finances, but the town finances, right? Uh, and we want to make sure that, um, folks here recognize that. Uh, and I recognize that. Um, we have a lot to do over the next month plus and that includes
the fields takeover and I haven't even mentioned that within this report and I'm holding that till next till June 10th uh when we meet because uh we want I want to get through this information uh with regard to the override get our committee reorganized uh and then uh get the searches underway. Um but that's a that's a massive um takeover >> of the fields and I I think I think we're meeting Monday. >> Yes. >> Yeah. Monday. Uh we have another meeting with regard to uh how we're how we're going to do this and but I feel comfortable with that too. I feel like we're in really good shape because of the override. So, um, thank you to all the the folks who were behind the scenes, you know, working and standing out on corners
and, um, and debunking, uh, you know, myths that were posted online and, um, it's really appreciative. So, that's my report. >> Yeah. And I think it's a reflection of of your the first >> the the work that went up front was phenomenal. Um, and uh, and also I'll just reiterate what you always said. Anybody that's out there that has a question. >> Uh, don't crowdsource it on, you know, social media, uh, contact one of us, contact you. You're always willing. >> The door is always open. >> Um, and you've done it. You've done it with, uh, the most contentuous people that want to come sit down. You're always always willing to do that graciously. So, um, the one person that will watch this, if if you know if they're having those questions, they should definitely
reach out. >> Yep. >> All right. Um, consent agenda is the next order of business. Is there a motion to approve the consent agenda? >> Move. >> Is there a second? >> Second. >> All in favor? >> I. >> Any opposition? >> Okay. And last, uh, reports of the school committee members. We start with Marcy if you have anything. Um, well, I have one thing that I think many have. The reality fair last week was just absolutely spectacular. And I'm a lifer now. I taught more kids about variable and fixed interest on that day. But just like shout out to Josh and Kelly and the entire >> Lauren G and Betty. >> Yeah, Lauren. Everybody, all the students who were there who helped run it. Like it's clearly a massive undertaking and >> so beneficial
and just the students are so impressive. So, which I guess I'm biased because I have a senior, but um they really were and very engaged. And um also um Mr. Alberts who teaches math and investing, >> he should get a shout out because the kids who have taken that class knew all about interest. >> Nice. >> That's great. >> Thank you. >> That's awesome. >> Thanks, Marcy. >> I would echo Marcy's comments. Go through reality fair. It's always my favorite event every year to volunteer at and I'm a lifer, too. I absolutely love it. Um uh what else? the there's so many end of the year events going on now, especially with those of us who have seniors, so it feels fast and furious. But um I also went to an Ashpack meeting a couple
weeks ago. There's another one this evening as well, too. But um one of the things that we talked about that Jim I you and I usually have an end of the year meeting, so we'll talk about this in more detail, but one of the things they brought up was um unified sports. Um and there are some things that are are going much better this year than they did last year. And then a few things that you know they kind of brought to u to my attention in the hopes of sharing um you know with you Jim and you know kind of broader in terms of making it um a little more in line with with how uh traditional sports run um so that our student athletes who are involved in um unified sports are treated
in the same way that athletes in all other sports are treated. So there was there were a few discrepancies that they brought to my attention so you and I can talk in more detail about them. Britney may also be sharing them with you as well. Um, but that was kind of the main part of our conversation. They also had a lot of questions about the override which had already passed. So, we talked a little bit about that. Um, and uh, you know, they were wondering if the those 13 positions were coming back. So, we discussed kind of the reality of where we are and why those positions were um, you know, why those uh, those cuts, if you will, were made um, as part of the broader budget discussion. it. >> Paul, >> yeah, I
mean to ditto the work that u the students and Josh and and Betty and everybody do uh for that event gets better every year. Um that they really take to heart the feedback people give. We made modifications uh to to some of the stuff that I I was involved with last year and and yeah, it's it's always a great event. um trying to remember who I was talking to. Um and uh I told them about it and they're in, you know, they're in different towns and they're like, "Wow, you know, are other towns doing this?" And I'm like, "I I don't know how many other towns do it." Um but it's uh it was uh very well received when I when I was at some party talking to somebody about it. So um yeah, and
obviously we're going to have an update next time with uh with graduation at least, you know. So nothing else. You want to tell me anything? >> Um, this is my first meeting, so I have nothing to report. >> You You can report you were elected. >> You were elected. >> Okay. Yes. >> I would like to report that I was elected. >> And I officially sworn in yesterday. >> Perfect. >> And And it was a shut out. >> It was though 700 people did not vote. >> Well, you you beat blank. You beat blank, which is all you >> pay attention to that. >> My mother noted it. >> Yeah. >> And welcome. >> Thank you. Yeah. sad to leave the finance committee but happy to be here. >> Um and so I I my
updates really we had um high school site council meeting three weeks ago. It was it was actually before our last meeting but we had had such a long meeting and um and with Lor's going away um they didn't want to to speak to it but had a lot of conversation about where the school improvement plan is and the things they're working on. Um, so I would expect that some point in the next few months, um, we'll talk about whether it's a summer or later. >> July 27th. >> Um, July 27, we'll talk about that. Um, so I have nothing specific to mention really out of that except just um, ongoing work. Reality Fair as well. Always it was a great event and I I always feel like I was on a booth where we were
talking about interviewing and resumes and thinking how much of this is kind of going in one year and out the other and how much of it's helping. And I was I will say this I was very impressed with the number of kids who said they already have a resume. >> You know I know a lot have to do it as a part of the college application process. Um you know just great to hear what kids are doing and what they're thinking about and the ones that are really engaged. It's it's a lot of fun. So um I think that's all I have by way of update. So with that um we are I would make a motion to adjurnn. >> All right. Is there a second? >> Second. >> All right. All in favor. >>
Any opposition? Hear none. Motion passes.
