And, you know, today we're we're we're waiting patiently here for Westwood to arrive, and I know that we have some really fun uh senior day festivities happening. Um but, you know, Jacob, you you are you have done such homework. Uh I don't want to let that go to waste in the here in the pregame. So, any other thoughts about >> [music] >> about this squad that we're about to see tonight? I don't know. You know, I just think that [music] this on paper looks like it should be a a nice game for Ashland. I think that, you know, Westwood, yeah, they're out of the playoffs. Uh you know, they probably their spirits might not be as high as, you know, Ashland. I think it's just it's good weather. It's senior night. You're at home. It
just feels like one of those one of those games for Ashland to >> getting here. They've had a long bus ride. Yeah, it is a it's a long ways. And Ashland, you know, they have I I had another interesting stat here. They've taken more walks than they have struck out this year as a team. So, I mean, it just seems like they they see this they see the ball, they see the strike zone, and they they know how to play the game all around. Yeah, you you you brought up that that strikeout statistic earlier. And and obviously, I I I'm a little biased because, you know, that Caroline is is my my daughter, and I'm quite impressed about that stat that zero strikeouts in 70 plate appearances. But, she's not the only one. I mean,
this this team is not striking out often. Hopefully, we didn't just put the hex on them today against the against a pretty good pitcher from Westwood. But, but they do not have a lot of strikeouts as a team. And I I didn't even realize that walk-to-strikeout ratio. That's pretty impressive. But, what I was looking at the other day with this team that I thought was was was quite a stat is that when you check out their their team contact percentage, obviously, that's sort of an advanced statistic that that folks, you know, look at. But, as a team, they're up over 86% contact percentage. And that to me is pretty impressive as a group and and [music] you know when when you look at the the girls on the squad, Ava Vendetti is up over 95%.
Nico's at 94%. Rebecca Kriegsman, who I always talk about just being [music] a tough out who always makes contact, is at 93%. Butermann, 93%. Ruby, 91%. These girls [music] are not striking out a lot. They're not cuz they're not swinging at bad pitches and and that's and that's why they're also uh getting walked. Yeah. And that that is just a huge recipe for success. I mean, you look around at teams, you know, who might not have great hitting stats. Well, if you're putting the ball in play 86% of the time, hits are bound to happen they're bound to come. You know, you'll find a hole, you'll find a gap. You know, not all their hits may be like, you know, smoked off the bat. They might have some infield hits, but you know, 86% of
the time putting the ball in play, you know, hits come. They they sure do. When you talk about infield hits, I I this is we we brought her up earlier. You have the ultimate weapon at the lead-off spot. Nico Eustace, as I've said, if Nico puts her bat on the ball, it is there is potential for her to reach It looks like we are getting ready here to start the senior day festivities. So, I I I think that we're probably going to sign off while they do senior senior day and here as we honor three fantastic fantastic young student athletes. Again, Quinn Herder, who has a four-year player for the Clockers, who is going to be taking off to Syracuse University next year. She will be joined by her parents, Joe and Kim. We've got
Taylor Kotch, who was another four-year player for the Clockers, who will be joined by her parents, Mike and Katie. And we also have Rebecca Kriegsman. I'm sorry, Taylor will be heading off to Syracuse as well next year. And then we have Rebecca Kriegsman who is another four-year player for the Clockers. And Rebecca will be joined today by her parents, Dan and Deb. And Rebecca will be heading off to Bates in the fall to play golf. We've talked about her throughout the year as one of the state's best golfers. So going to head over probably to the field to to see if they are going to begin those festivities now to honor these seniors and then we'll be back. We'll be back at it real soon. First pitch coming up.
