Mhm. >> Candace was kind enough. >> He knows. I think about tissues for Ms. Fosters. I did bring my own. I have one little thing in my pocket and he's like, are you kidding me? Like, I have been supplying you with tissues for 10 years. I know you. So, anyhow, I didn't even make it through the vision statement. I apologize, but it's because I love you all so much and I'm sorry to be stepping out of this role, but I will see you again. Um this meeting is being recorded by WACA cable TV. And our order of business this evening is the call to order, opening procedures agenda review and adoption. There'll be time for public participation. The action items and discussion updates and votes include the Leo Club, new picnic tables for AHS courtyard,

Give Kids The World Service Trip request November 2026 and I see all like my favorite faces in the whole world are in this room. School Choice Policy JFBB, Assistant Superintendent Job Description, Memo from Valerio Dominello and Hillman LLC School Attorney, Director of Student Services Job Search Policy CBD Central Office, appoint member to job search, timeline of search, Superintendent's Summative Evaluation, the consent agenda which includes approvals of gifts and donations, minutes from April 8th, 2026, warrant approvals, the Superintendent report, Assistant Superintendent reports, reports of school committee members and then we will adjourn. So, um I will first ask everybody if you're okay with the order of business this evening and I will see that you're all here. Everybody good? Yes. Okay. Um is there anybody here from the public that would like to say anything? Okay,

seeing none, we will go to the Leo Club, new picnic tables for AHS courtyard. Oh, hello. I know you. Hello. I want to make sure that you can come up to the mic, please. Okay. >> And for the school committee purposes, I just got this, so you don't have it in the folder. So, but Oh, yeah, yeah. >> Yeah. I'm going to share it up here. And I know you, but if you could tell us who you are. I know somebody else here knows you, too. >> [laughter] >> Can we go back to the first >> Yeah, I'm going. Sorry. All right, no. Yeah. You want me to go? Okay, so um we're the Leos Club. I'm Jane, I'm the secretary. Um I'm Kate, and I'm the vice president. Um so, like we're here today

to um request if like we can um donate picnic tables. Um so, just to start as like an introduction, the Leos Club has over 40 members, and the main objective is community service, serving the Ashland community. And um we kind of like to call ourselves like mini lions, so we work really closely with the Ashland Lions Club to support different community organizations, and just to help improve our own school community. Um I just put in pictures. The picture on the left is our um senior bingo night, um which we had I think over 30 seniors came, which was um they loved it. It was a really big deal. It's our second year doing this. And then on the right is pictures from [clears throat] our um What was that? That was our Thanksgiving food drive,

and that's also our second year doing this, and we did over 450 donations to the um food pantry this year. Um so, yesterday after school, we had our whole group come out after, you know, school and clean up the courtyard in the middle where there's picnic tables and like a nice little cement area as pictured. And but it's like can be a little bit, you know, not so nice at times, and so we were just trying to clean it up especially with the nicer weather and if teachers are kind of done teaching with their AP classes or whatever can go out there and have a nice time. Um so we're proposing to donate four plastic technique picnic tables because the ones we currently have are quite old and dirty and like a little bit dangerous

cuz of the splinters and so we're going to set them up either like late summer early fall um and yeah that's what we're asking if we can put those in. Do you have any questions? Is the plan for those to be out all year long or are they going to be stored somewhere in the winter or? Um we asked the janitors that and they said if they're not able to be out all year long they'd be fine with like being able to store them inside. Oh yeah. They do fold up so there's always that option of putting them inside for the winter which is actually nice because obviously no one goes out there in the winter so. And have you guys already fundraised for them so you're ready to to purchase and place them? Um

so our treasurer couldn't be here tonight but we do already have um club funds. We have a pretty comfortable amount already and then we've done two uh Blue Score Pizza fundraisers where we've raised I don't how much was it last year? >> 400 each. >> Couple hundred dollars and then plus we also get funds from the Lions Club. We have like our own funds that come in that way so we have more than enough. Yeah. I think it's a great way to give back to your school. Thank you. Thank you. Okay so yeah. And Jim I don't think it matters whether we do or not but if it's already funds that are in our system do we have to accept the donation or or >> [clears throat] >> I would because it's through the club.

And we would do it with any other organization partly um So Yeah yeah yeah. It's always better if like it's I I would just better. We have it don't It's a donation specifically It was already in our system, right? So, that's the question. Yeah, yeah. That was the question. Yeah. Uh, it is I mean, we have two options here and and Mark and I were just talking about this a little bit. Is it it is in the gift and approval on the consent agenda or we can take the vote just for that one specific item tonight right now while they're here. Uh, if you'd like to do that and then approve the rest under the consent, I think it's appropriate. >> it's appropriate to do that. Okay. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. So, I would move to

accept the gift of the picnic tables as presented. Second. Move. Move. Wow. >> [laughter] >> Will all say I. All in favor. I. I. Thank you. Thank you. >> Thank you. Okay. Next up, Give Kids the World service trip request, November 2026. Hello, friends. Hi, my name is Elma Darice. I'm currently the Give Kids the World coordinator for the Acton High School's Make-A-Wish Club. Um, we are once again requesting permission to travel to Give Kids the World for our 11th service trip. We are hoping to travel from November 19th to the 22nd. We have the same goal to perform six service trips as well as a fundraiser for Give Kids the World while we are there. Last year we raised over $3,500 through our ornament fundraiser and presented them with a check while we were

in the village. We hope to bring 36 to 40 students and four chaperones again. And we are waiting for the final estimate for the pricing, but we want to be mindful of the current escalation for air transportation given the current gas prices. Um, we know the impact that this trip has on us as well as the wish families and want to ensure that it happens again. Thank you for your time. Does anybody have any questions? >> [laughter] >> Everyone has procedural usually approve the trip which I'm supportive we wait till we have more of the pricing and information we are at a point where from an administrative perspective we're okay approving this trip or do it Conditionally as we've done in the past. Yeah, they this group has always come at us to try to

the the shields could actually start getting prices. Yeah. And just what were the dates on the trip again? November 19th to the 22nd. Just to explain that our travel advisor is looking into pricing but again we want to just be mindful of the budgets of our students and their families so we just want to make sure that we are doing the best we can for them right now. So we'll have probably a number within the next week. But we um again, surge pricing right now is not pretty. And I just want to say for the record as I do every year even though I know everybody here now knows you know how well run this trip is and popular and effective but I have to say it every time. Mike knows cuz he's been on

it. It's one of the best things that certainly I've been part of. I'm looking around I see Aaron I see Kelly you know all of you guys my opportunity to get to know you and see what amazing people that you are and to see you learning to see students learning how to have compassion for others not that they didn't before but I mean this is next level even if you're an adult right? Like it's just the ability to go there and um do nothing but take care of others and see how that changes their entire life. Um I don't think there's anything any better gift than than we can give our kids. So I know you know this I'm like a broken record um and for those of you don't know I'm saying it cuz

I've been on the trip probably 10 times um but it just um I hope that it never ever stops. If I if it's my last words here, please do not ever stop approving trips like this because it's the best thing in the world. And I thank you all for being who you are and going. So, at this point, do we want to just take a motion to approve provide preliminary approval to the trip? >> Yes, please. Okay, I'll make that motion. I'll second. All in favor? Aye. Have a great trip, ladies. All right, yay! Thank you. I hope you don't mind, we're going to take a few minutes here. Oh god, and I might need those tissues. >> [laughter] >> Um we wanted to offer our sincere appreciation for everything you've done. Um you have

supported the students of Ashland unequivocally. We know that. Um everything you have done and everything you have spearheaded has been in their best interest. So, thank you. More specifically, we can't say thank you enough for everything you've done for us. Um your support of the Make-A-Wish Club started way back when when your own child was part of our club and you chaperoned our first trip. Who would have known then a mazillion years later that you would still be chaperoning with us? Um with the exception of the worldwide pandemic and your daughter's wedding, you have attended every single one since then. You have shown our student volunteers the true meaning of service and the impact we can make. You have have also impacted our students in the most wonderful ways by forging relationships with hundreds of

AHS students and the Make-A-Wish Club. Our service trips will never be the same without you, but we know that Give Kids the World will remain a special place for you and know that your service there has not ended. We know that you go on your own every chance that your husband brings you to Orlando, you are [laughter] volunteering and we love that about you. We know the next chapter is going to be the best one yet. You've been talking about your grand babies and the hopes for them since the day I met you and this is just bringing you endless smiles. We adore you. We're going to miss you in that capacity, but we're so so so fortunate that we've had this amazing relationship with you and we thank you for that. Thank you for

giving me the honor. Yeah. So we have a few things [applause] for you. Oh my gosh. I love you all so much. I love you. All right, so first a little a little thank you for being Thank you so much. All right, let's let's start the spoon and then our our last service trip together. >> [laughter] >> And then of course you need some things for the littles, so >> [laughter] >> And Sandy Sandy and James have to become fans as well, so Maybe you have to turn around. And Lori, let me get a picture with you with all everybody here. Wait, put the camera You got to It's all you, Sandy. The onesies. >> [laughter] >> This is awesome. Kelly, say "cheese". Can everybody hear me? I got they should stand on chairs. >>

[laughter] >> Too bad we got to do business after this. Right? >> [laughter] >> Awesome. We love you, Miss Tucky. Thank you. >> [applause] >> This is awesome. You want to see? I just want Maybe it would have been better to make multiple smaller boxes. >> Right. Yeah. These are little ones. Thank you so much. I have the pictures of Thank you very much. Thank you everyone. All right, I'm good. >> [laughter] [snorts] >> How stinking cute these are? >> [laughter] >> That's awesome. School choice policy after that. >> [laughter] >> Wouldn't be a meeting if we didn't have to do something really yucky after something really amazing. >> [laughter] >> I know. Yucky Yucky's a strong word. In fact, relatively speaking, exactly. I was trying to, you know, make this a light meeting, but

clearly I couldn't help [clears throat] myself. So, we had to add a few things in here. Uh so, what I'm asking tonight is for approval of of of the school choice policy. Uh the the stuff in red that you would see uh is is the only thing that's been added. Nothing else has been deleted. You should have that in the folder as well. Um and in conversations with our attorney, uh Jen King, she she noted that our policy was not up-to-date with MGL and or DESE um uh guidance. So, this is what the red is. So, we're supposed to have two lotteries uh if there are more seats um requested seats applications for [music] what we have actually um allotted uh each year. So, that's what this does. It gives specific items as to when

the drawings occur and what happens in terms of the process after November 1st. It It cuts off the date of accepting of school choice students even if if spots come available. So, it's just more clear specific guidance so so when families are looking at the policy and the application they know there's a deadline July 15th. They have to accept their seat if they're a part of the first lottery. If they don't accept it, then there's another lottery 2 weeks before school begins for those folks who didn't get in if if again if there are more seats available. So, that's what we're looking to do tonight is just to clean this up and you know from our perspective the number of students currently just so you get a flavor who this impact this year >> [clears

throat] >> of all the seats that have been allocated approved [snorts] kindergarten had 10 seats as you know we approved 10 seats. Right now there are 11 applicants and then in the ninth grade we approved four seats. There are five applicants. So, those are the only two where a lottery at this point in time would be necessary. None of the others would require a lottery situation and that doesn't mean of those 11 uh the the 10 Somebody could drop out. >> drop out. They may not accept etc. [snorts] So, uh so, that's what we're looking to do just to be in compliance with Department of Ed regulations as well as the guidance as well as MGL. Questions? I guess my question is for the group do we feel this is a substitute enough change for

the required two reads? That might take is no, but uh um I don't think so. No, it's just a procedural thing. It doesn't change the meat of it. Right. Then I would move to approve the updates to uh JFBB school choice as presented. Second. All in favor? Aye. >> Aye. Thank you. Okay, assistant superintendent job description. A memo from Valerio. Yeah, so >> [clears throat] >> I'll pull this up as well. So, as we are going through the process of looking at job descriptions and finalizing job descriptions across the district, uh there was one that came uh to my attention, which was our assistant superintendent um job description. And that was actually considered a regulation uh in our former policy handbook. Uh and I talked to Jen King, again getting her guidance with regard to

should we have job descriptions as part of the policy manual? And she was like unequivocally no, we should not. Um and what happened uh coincidentally enough, I went back to the minutes of in 2000 and I can go back and look. I was highlighting them here. In 2016, when we actually uh posted for the the le the assistant superintendent position. Remember we had a director of curriculum position and we didn't have it. Then the school committee decided to post it as a assistant superintendent position. We talked about the regulation, but we never actually voted to to get rid of the regulation. We actually talked about it doesn't belong there, but we didn't vote for it. So, uh I had Jen King just write a memo saying to the school committee, it's appropriate just to pull

it out of there. Uh so, that's all I'm asking you to do to do tonight for the assistant superintendent uh job description is to remove it from the policy as a regulation. I But we do it's not listed on here as a policy. Right? You're concerned about the agenda. Oh, I I see what you're saying, Paul. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I I That's fine. I can bring that back. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'll bring it back just because voting to Perfect. >> update a policy But but here's the reason That's the reason why we're doing it though. Okay, I'm clear on that. No worries. Okay, perfect. Just to have it be have it clean vote. Yeah, we should we should I'll make sure. Yeah, just should say that we're we're referencing the policy. Next agenda. Perfect.

Yeah, we we changed the job description then in 2016, uh but we never removed it. We talked about it um in We just didn't move it that way. We didn't vote for it. >> Can we vote Can we um Can that be on the consent agenda next time or because it's a policy does it need to be? I'm not sure. It probably It It could probably be both. We should We We should probably put it as a And we're going to have a couple of policies anyway. Yeah, we typically don't do policies that way. Just Yeah, whenever we've had policies to remove, we've actually listed them. Yeah, with prior spend more time talking about it now than we will then, right? >> [laughter] >> True. Yeah, yeah, fair enough. But but [snorts] it it does

just uh you know Fair point. Sure, sure. I highlight it, you know. Right. Okay, the director of student services job search policy CBD central office. We're looking to appoint a member for to the job search and the timeline of the search. >> Yeah, so as you know, um Britney Hawkins has put forth her resignation as the director of student services effective August 14th. Uh it's a big loss for the district, uh but it's it as she and I had these conversations, it's it's a challenge. It's been a challenge 3-plus hours commuting uh every day. Um new baby. Uh it's just been it's been difficult and um so we have to go through this process. The search process is very specific uh through policy uh in terms of who is on the um initial search committee.

It is an appointed position by the school committee. But the initial search process does um allow for a school committee member to be a part of that initial process. Uh so I'm just looking for and you can see the the policy here. I'm just looking for school committee to either appoint someone now or if you feel more comfortable waiting until uh or after the elections next week, um we have time uh and the process will be as follows. Um So I plan on advertising the role uh on Friday starting in these areas. Uh confirm a search team. Originally I was going to do that tonight, but again I could push that back. I'm not worried about it um because the applications are due June 6th and then we're going to start um the process uh

of paper screening June 8th. First round interviews the 15th to 22nd will be second interviews will be with me and my staff um and then school committee interviews are to be determined obviously. I I mean if we have my two cents is if we have interest, I don't think we need to wait. I agree. >> Okay, that's fair enough. I I just wanted to make sure. Yeah. So Jim just for um clarify for for whoever this might be. >> Yeah. Which steps of the process would the the team involved in? Is it just the paper screening the first interviews? The the the search team is yes, paper screening and first interviews. Correct. Right. So it's that June 6th and the June 8th and then June 15th, right? That week. Yeah. I was on the hiring

committee for Britney and I'm I would be happy to be involved in this one as well, too. Um I feel Good enough for me. >> [laughter] >> I would I would move to appoint Tina to uh uh the assistant superintendent for uh >> [laughter] >> student services. All in favor. Thank you, Tina. So, I have I already penciled it in, but >> [laughter] >> I'm going to say who who There was a lot of preface for a for a a pretty known outcome, man. Exactly. Yeah. As long as she was available for us, okay. >> And and awesome. That's So, that's that's that. Great. Thanks. >> All right, Jim, it's your turn. We're up to the superintendent's evaluation. Do you want a a hard copy in your hand? >> Mike, I'll let you So, you

can follow along. Let's see if you can get the other one. I've read it. I disagree with it, but I've read Oh, stop it. It's kind of long, but um it's my last meeting, so I do what I want. Yeah, you do. Yeah. [laughter] You read the whole thing. It's your last chance to say what you really feel about him, right? >> That's what Paul said. Now, you can tell him, you know, what you really did never liked about him the whole time. Okay, everybody. I'll wait till he's listening. Yeah, no kidding. James. No, I follow that. It's okay. Over the course of the 2025-2026 school year, Superintendent Jim Adams demonstrated exceptional leadership, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to the students, staff, and families of Ashland Public Schools. The School Committee's overall rating of exemplary reflects

not only the successful achievement of district goals, but also the extraordinary manner in which Mr. Adams led the district through one of the most challenging fiscal years in recent memory. His leadership throughout this period consistently reflected integrity, transparency, compassion, and an unrelenting focus on doing what is best for students and the broader Ashland community. Of the five goals set for Mr. Adams, the committee determined that he made some progress on the district communication goal, significant progress on the two curriculum goals, and met the goals related to our ongoing review of policy and the athletic fields. The committee is pleased with the progress. The defining work of this year centered on the district's significant budgetary and operational challenges. Faced with evolving financial conditions and the likely need for an operational override, Mr. Adams led the development

of multiple comprehensive budget scenarios with exceptional clarity, detail, and fiscal responsibility. Through transparent presentations and thoughtful communication, he ensured that the school committee, town leadership, staff, families, and community members fully understood both the district's structural financial needs and the potential impacts of various outcomes. His ability to present complex financial information in a clear, accessible, and factual manner empowered stakeholders to make informed decisions with confidence and trust. Throughout this process, Mr. Adams worked tirelessly to maintain open lines of communication with all stakeholders. He demonstrated remarkable responsiveness to parents, staff, community members, and town officials, consistently approaching difficult conversations with honesty, professionalism, and empathy. His willingness to engage collaboratively, listen thoughtfully to feedback, and acknowledge uncertainty when appropriate strengthened credibility and trust across the district. In a year defined by financial uncertainty and heightened public attention, his

calm, steady, and transparent leadership was invaluable. Despite the immense focus on fiscal stabilization, Mr. Adams and his leadership team continued to advance meaningful instructional and operational work across the district. Under his leadership, Ashland Public Schools made substantial progress in strengthening curriculum alignment, instructional practices, and student support systems. At the middle school level, the implementation of a new student-centered schedule, including flex win blocks, created important opportunities for targeted small group instruction and individualized student support. Staff increasingly utilized data-informed practices through collaborative team structures and instructional response models, ensuring that teaching strategies remain responsive to student needs. Mr. Adams also championed district-wide improvements to the multi-tiered system of supports, MTSS, supporting the development of cohesive structures, protocols, and professional learning opportunities that strengthen consistency and effectiveness across schools. Through collaborative leadership and ongoing refinement of instructional practices,

the district has continued to build a culture focused on continuous improvement, equitable access, and student achievement. Significant progress was also made in curriculum alignment at the high school. Grading practices, English learner programming, restorative practices, social-emotional learning, and expanded academic and career-oriented programming, including the addition of business courses designed to better prepare students for post-secondary success. Operationally, Mr. Adams demonstrated exemplary stewardship of district resources and systems. Under his leadership, the district achieved measurable improvements in business office efficiency, procurement processes, facilities management, and long-term operational planning. His oversight of the field management transition, capital projects, and operational efficiencies reflected strong strategic thinking and a commitment to maximizing the impact of every district resource. These efforts not only improved organizational effectiveness, but also helped stabilize and strengthen district operations during an exceptionally demanding year. Equally important has been

Mr. Adams' ability to cultivate a positive and supportive district culture. He consistently sets high expectations while fostering collaboration, mutual respect, accountability, and professional growth among staff. His leadership empowers administrators, educators, and support staff to innovate, collaborate, and continuously improve while maintaining a strong sense of shared purpose. The district's ongoing work to strengthen educator evaluation systems through collaborative and equitable practices further reflects his commitment to professional excellence and organizational coherence. Mr. Adams has also continued to prioritize meaningful family and community engagement through inclusive outreach efforts, multilingual family programming, interactive school events, and consistent communication. He strengthened the partnership between schools and families and reinforced a welcoming environment for all students. His leadership has ensured that families feel informed, valued, and connected to the work of the district. Throughout his tenure, and especially during his extraordinarily difficult

year, Mr. Adams has led Ashland Public Schools with exceptional vision, integrity, compassion, and resilience. While many accomplishments reflect the dedicated efforts of administration, faculty, and staff across the district, the success of these teams is a direct reflection of the culture, leadership, and trust he has cultivated. His ability to guide the district through both periods of growth and moments of significant challenge has earned the deep respect of colleagues, staff, families, and the community alike. Jim Adams is an outstanding educational leader whose professionalism, fiscal expertise, collaborative spirit, and steadfast communication to students have had a profound impact on the Ashland Public Schools community. The district is fortunate to benefit from his leadership, and the School Committee extends its sincere appreciation for his tireless service, extraordinary dedication, and exemplary performance throughout the 2025-2026 school year. Does anybody have

anything to add? Would you like to respond? >> [laughter] >> My >> [snorts] >> The work that we do, and I'm I'm glad you mentioned that in the last page is a reflection of the folks out here, right? It's the work that they do every day. We know. Um and and I and I I I I know you know. [laughter] Beautiful because that's exactly what what it should be about, right? Um the the work I'm fortunate. I'm blessed to have such a strong team that does the work, right? Um and we can sit here and I you know how I feel about publicly having any conversation about me. I I don't like it, but it's because of the folks here uh that do that great work that we can have this conversation and I can

be recognized in that way and I'm thankful to all of you and I appreciate all of you. Um and and and all the the common steady, I think they would all disagree with you in certain meetings. There's no common steady. Um but uh it it's uh Again, I'm blessed. I'm fortunate. So, thank you. You two will vote to accept the evaluation? I'll just say Don't forget that you get a little credit for the team you put together, too. I know you inherited some folks, but you've also had a huge role in all of that and that's why I'm not taking away anything from the folks sitting here. Um but you know, I think it's always it's always important to recognize you get there together and you are very much a part of that. I wholeheartedly

support everything Lori wrote. I'll move to accept it as presented. I I'll second that, but also uh echo what Mark said that we we retain the talent we have uh because of the leadership. Uh we're able to move the district and the community forward because of the relationships uh and and the collaboration we have uh that's unique in Ashland, really. Um and and and you're a big part of that, so uh definitely echo everything that that was said and and appreciate the effort. Likewise, the the culture in the collaboration comes from the top down and you you set the temperature and you've put together an incredible team, but you deserve a lot of kudos for the success of our district and we're grateful for you. Thank you. Yeah, thank you for everything. Okay, all in

favor? I. I. Okay, next up the consent agenda. Do we have a motion to accept the consent agenda? So moved. Second. We have some more guests. What? What the heck? Oh my gosh. Aw. I love you, sir. >> [laughter] >> Oh my goodness. I still have to talk a little bit more here. >> [laughter] >> Good luck with that. What the heck? Did we Did we take a motion to accept the consent agenda yet? And did you all say yes? I. Did I say yes? Really did. Oh my gosh. Okay, warrant approvals. You messed me up with putting it at the end of the agenda. Between April 9th, 2026 and May 13th, 2026, I will continue to authorize by my signature payable in the amount of $1,471,122.56. This includes general fund expenses of $1,146,364.54, revolving

expenses of $301,970.50, grant fund expenses of $22,692 and meals tax expenses of $95.52. Finally, I authorize payroll for 4 million $528,414.35. That's what you guys all came to hear, right? Just in time for that. Okay, do you guys have reports this evening? Of course they do. Okay. I'm going to start. So, um I'm going to read, but it's a challenge for me to stand up. Uh I will keep this brief. As you all know, I can easily break down and and wouldn't be able to finish my thoughts. When I think of Laurie and her commitment to the Ashland public schools and the community, I can't help but start at the beginning for me in 2009, when I first met her. I've literally been in APS to see all four of her Laurie and Rob's kids

graduate. While I didn't know Jake well, he graduated my first year in Ashland. But Joey and I certainly got to know each other >> [laughter] >> quite well. Beck Becca and Chrissy, I got I got to know a little bit more throughout the years and obviously their extended families. Uh Becca is now a teacher for us. Uh Laurie and I have worked together for 17 years through site councils, superintendent councils, and her role as chair of the school committee for the last 15 years. What I can say is that Ashland is unique. Paul just mentioned that. Everyone says this to me. How do we do it? How can you have consistency in people so dedicated to the schools doing what is best for everyone? Well, it starts with the chair and permeates through the rest

of the committee. Her expectations are high, clear, and always on point. Laurie will never apologize for her tireless, sometimes straightforward demeanor when advocating for Ashland students. Heck, I was in fear of Lori in one of our first meetings with FinCom and the select board. I'll never forget that moment in my conference room where she challenged everyone to do what was right for kids. No minced words, no quarter given, just a little Pennsylvanian with some Framingham South mixed in. >> [laughter] >> I can't [clears throat] list all the accomplishments APS has made under her guidance and leadership. But, I know it's many. Highlighted by school start times, advocacy for a new school, higher chapter 70 funding, and creating equitable opportunities for all students with free full-day kindergarten. Let me wrap this up by saying I'm the

most fortunate superintendent in Massachusetts. >> [clears throat] >> This is where it's hard. >> [snorts] >> Lori has not only been advocate for me, >> [sighs] >> she's been a listening ear when my life was in turmoil. Not only a boss, but a mother to me, ensuring, along [clears throat] with other members of this committee, to make sure I took care of me, so I could take care of the district. No other committee or committee chair would take this approach. I'm confident of that across the Commonwealth. She sets a standard hard to match. She But, she also leaves behind a highly functioning board >> [snorts] >> that understands its role in advocacy. I will miss Lori and her weekly, if not daily, texts just checking in on me and the district. I wish you the

best of luck in your next adventure with the grandchildren. I thank Rob, Jake, Joey, Becca, and Chrissy for sharing you with this community and with me. Ashland is better for it. Thank you. You're welcome. >> [applause] >> Oh my gosh. Um >> [laughter] >> The Anyone can come grab one. Paul Paul knew that I was certainly was going to need them. Uh I had something I was going to say when we did committee reports, but if you wouldn't mind, I'm seeing so many people that I'm talking about in in my written comments. So, um I'd like to share share that now if that's okay. You're still the chair. All right. I'm sharing it now, whether you like it or not. Is that okay with all of you? Yes. Talking a lot tonight, but you don't

have to >> [laughter] >> And I'm still going to text you. Okay. Serving Ashland Public Schools and the Ashland community has been one of the great privileges of my life. And as I step away, I'm filled with so much gratitude. Jim, you're one of the most effective leaders I've ever had the chance to work with. You bring the rare combination of high expectations, tireless work ethic, empathy, and vulnerability. You've always made this work feel like a partnership. And you've helped all of us grow while also being open to feedback to grow yourself. One of your greatest strengths is your ability to recognize talent, and because of that, we've all benefited from working alongside outstanding people like Mike and Chris and so many incredible principals, teachers, and staff. >> [snorts] >> I value and appreciate all

members of the Ashland Educators Association who sent me beautiful flowers today. That was the beginning of my breakdown. Thank you so much. And I thank you for working alongside us all these years. I've also been lucky to serve with extraordinary colleagues all along the way. Some aren't here. Kathy Bates comes to mind and many others. Mark Terry, from the moment we discovered our shared love of Bruce Springsteen, we were best friends. We still talk about today. Yes, we were still talk I mean it was the first thing we ever talked about and it's the last thing we'll ever talk about at this table. Um but your wisdom and your partnership and your grace to let me sit in this seat for as long as I have um have so much. Paul Kendall, your dedication in

every way and your attention to detail, especially to the Mendez project. I've said it before, I've never seen anything like it. It's been remarkable. And now you're a friend and a neighbor. And I know that I will be seeing more of you. Tita, your advocacy for equity, diversity, curriculum, special education has made us stronger. And [snorts] I consider you you all friends at this point. Marcy, I was only just getting to know you, but I'm so pleased that you're here. And I I love your brilliant mind for numbers and your warmth and I wish I had longer to get to know you and I hope I have more opportunities to get to know you after afterwards. Abhishek, you've been such a thoughtful student representative on this board. Um we've been doing this for a long

time and you know, sometimes people are a little bit hesitant to participate, but you never um hesitated to share really thoughtful insight with all of us that I think in some cases helped us change the way we're thinking about things. So, I I know that you will do great things and I thank you. Um some of the moments I'll treasure the most came from spending time with our students. Jen Shields and Corey McGann gave me the opportunity to chaperone trips that reminded me what this work is really about. Helping kids grow into compassionate, curious people. Along the way again to know educators like Kelly and Aaron and Mike in those settings made me appreciate even more the extraordinary people serving our children every day. Corey and Jen, I will always be so grateful to you

for trusting me with that and that will forever be the highlight of my one of the great highlights of my life and I consider you all now friends as well. You're you're not getting rid of me that quickly. I'm grateful too for all the leaders across our buildings. I'm so proud of all of you. I got the chance to know Pete at Warren Site Council and I'm so impressed with the way that you lead that building and the wonderful group on the Site Council. I can only speak to the one that I was on but I just think we're just so lucky in this community to have the involved parents that we do as well as administrators who really care and uh work well together. Um As for the many people across town who care

deeply about this community, um many select board members. I met Steve Mitchell on my first day out campaigning for my first campaign and we've been fast friends ever since. Um Claudia Bennett who has served this community in so many wonderful ways. Joe Mennianni, Brandy, Yolanda, Nakita and so many others. And to our to Jack Lewis and Karen who are always fighting for Ashland and I know that you actually know who we are and There's Kathy Bates. I You missed it. I talked about Anne Brandy. Oh my gosh. Um Hi Kathy. I appreciate you. And I said it earlier but I'm setting saying it again. Kathy, I mean I think one of the things I'm trying to say with a lot of words and I'm going on and on is that um none of this happens

because of any one person. And we all have our part to play, every single person in this room. Um including my family supporting me and we all have the people behind the scenes that support us. Um but it never just happens with one person. And the way that we've collaborated and it kind of sounds like we're bragging about it, but it's true. We all go to conferences and people are like, "What do you What's in the water in in Ashland? Like how are you how are you doing? How are the same people in the roles for so many years and you actually seem like you like each other?" >> [laughter] >> And >> [clears throat] >> you know, spending time together and you know, we call each other and we we actually really have a

tremendous amount of respect uh for everybody and I and I feel that way about every single person I'm looking at. Most of all, thank you to my family, especially Rob and our children who supported every campaign, every late meeting, every step of this journey. Um Not everybody like uh Hi, Chrissy. Not everybody liked all the times that I was on the phone all the time, especially in the early days. My kids were little when I first started this and I was uh taking some tension away from them uh as we all do when we go to work or we donate our our time to something. Um but you know, part of that is to to set an example for them. And part of it is obviously because of of how much it did for me.

But um I think that when that the fact that my kids can sit here as adults and see that all that time I spent hopefully had even if it had the smallest amount of impact, then like game over. It's I'm good. It's That's all I care about. So, thank you to the people of Ashland. Um thank you to anyone that ever voted for me or didn't vote for me or whatever. However it worked out, I'm I've been here for a while and I and [clears throat] I appreciate all the support. Um the challenges here right now are real. Um, but what I've seen here is extraordinary. A community built on dedication, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to children. And I'm honored to have been a part of it. >> [applause] >> I got it. Sure.

It's I'm done. Okay. Lori's done. Uh, we do have a number of folks here who would love to share um, some thoughts. Um, and you can come up to the podium as you wish, but uh, Michael, I know you have to head to the uh, back to the academy. Uh, right. So, [snorts] so if people want to line up behind Mr. Herbert, that'd be great. Thank you. Just make sure that mic is on and you can go in any order you'd like. I know there a number of people. Yeah, go ahead. Kristen, right behind him. Perfect. Love it. I was about to say I can't be the only one. I'm sure. I know. Uh, and and thank you and thank you for for um, um, allowing me to to go first just so I can

get over back over to DPW, but um, Lori, this is your night. Um, >> [snorts] >> I was thinking, you know, on my way over here. There's so many things I want to say, which we all know I will probably try to do it, but I will try to keep it succinct. Um, but one of the things You know, a lot of times especially people in my profession, they go to places for three or four years, five years tops, right? Um, in the town manager world. And it gives you an opportunity to to know people, um, and develop relationships um, with them in a working capacity. But when you have the privilege of working with the community and working with elected boards and and everybody for 10 13 years, you start getting to know people

as people. And you're one of my first memories here in Ashland is, you know, going to a tri-board meeting and and just um, you know, some of the interactions during those days were different than they are today. And So everybody knows I was swearing at people. Let's just get it all out right now. Well, I was using puns. Yeah, I would have said that. You didn't have to be so polite about it. Well, that was the premier insult part. [laughter] I was But but we don't swear at each other openly. So [laughter] um But Let's just call it what it is. It It was It was an interesting time. Let's put it this way. >> They did deserve it. I >> [laughter] >> We We Yes. We got that in a minute, right? But you

know, it's like I said, getting to know you as a person and watching um watching you um just become not just knowing you as as Lori Tassin and not just the school committee chair has been a real privilege um as part of this job. >> Likewise. Thank you. And um I think how important relationships are and and they're so much more important to me now at this stage of my life than they were before. And um I really value the one that we have. And a lot of that a lot of the credit uh for how this town and the school system has flourished um can go to you and your leadership for so long. Um That's dedication. Uh that's resilience. That is That is dedication driven not necessarily by ego, but by a by

a desire to serve. And um I just want to thank you. You know, I want to thank you for being a partner. Thank you. And a friend. I appreciate that. Back at you. Thank you. Hi, I'm glad you like the flowers. Oh, they're Thank you so much. Oh, for the minute I'm Chris It was It was not pretty this afternoon in my house. I was already emotional and then thank you so much because I was so touched. Oh, good news. Good. Yeah. Well, hopefully I won't make you cry. Um I could um could talk about personal interactions with us because my first bargaining ever was when I was pregnant with my daughter and you were on the board and um you were just very kind while I was doing that, but I'll ramble cuz that's

what I do. So, I wrote something down. Thank you. Um 15 years. When you stop and really think about what that means, 15 years of meetings, budgets, late nights, tough decisions, and unwavering dedication, it becomes clear that we are not simply marking the end of a term. We are celebrating a legacy. Lori Testi came to this board not for recognition, not for convenience, but because she genuinely believed in the power of great schools to change lives. And for 15 years she proved that belief every single day. Lori understood something that not everyone in governance takes time to learn. That the strength of a school district lives in its relationships. Her partnership with the AEA was a model of what collaboration is supposed to look like. Grounded in mutual respect, open communication, and a shared commitment

to doing right by our educators. She listened. She advocated. She worked alongside our association not as an adversary across the table, but as a true partner in the same mission. That same spirit extended to every corner of this community. Parents who walked into a school board meeting nervous or frustrated walked out feeling heard. Staff members knew that when Laurie spoke on their behalf, she meant it. And students, our students, were never an abstraction to her. They were always the reason. >> [snorts] >> Laurie, you have given this district 15 years as chair of your time, your wisdom, and your heart. The schools are better for it. The children are better for it, and every one of us who had the privilege of working alongside you is better for it. Thank you, Laurie. Enjoy every moment

of what comes next. You have more than earned it. Thank you so much. Thank [applause] you. Laurie, I would have guessed wearing >> [laughter] >> Paula dressed for you tonight. >> fault. >> [snorts] >> 15 years of dedicated service is a remarkable milestone. But the true measure of the your impact lies in the strength of your leadership during our most difficult moments. You played an important role in guiding our schools through unprecedented challenges of a global pandemic and the complexities of lean fiscal cycles with both a steady hand and a brave heart. The decisions made during the pandemic preserved essential learning, child care, social emotional support, and sometimes meals. Providing stability, equity, and hope to children >> [clears throat] >> Excuse me, and the whole community when they needed it most. Thank you for being

the leader we needed exactly when we needed one. While we were sad to see you go, we are better for having had you at the helm. Thank you for 15 years of excellence. I consider you a friend. I've seen you in action in school committee meetings. Sometimes they because Jim made us go. >> [laughter] >> Thank you for everything. Thank you, Claudia. Hi, Brandy. So, I have to follow Claudia, huh? Okay, that's going to be hard. So, um Lori, it's it's been really just such a pleasure like getting to know you and working with you um on the other side of the table for the last 7 years. It's been It's been great. Um Like I always knew who you were, but then I really got to know you and it's been it's been a

great It's been a great 7 years. Thank you. Uh you've been a really strong advocate for our educators and our students and administrators and really the steady leadership for the school committee, which, you know, as Claudia said, the things have been challenging at times and we're going through yet another turning point in that. Um but more than anything, you've led with empathy and you've shown you've showed up for people, um your colleagues, your community, your students, um all of us here in this room. And you work hard to make sure that our kids really truly have the public education that you deserve that they deserve. Um and as a parent of a student that started Oh my goodness. Oh, that's my granddaughter. >> [laughter] >> I think she's going to have the last word. >>

Yeah, I hope so. Oh my gosh. goodness >> Yes, oh Brandy, back at you. Um but just as a parent of a student who who started in kindergarten and graduated from Ashland High School during your your your tenure, um I just want to say thank you on behalf of parents. Um Ashland provides a stellar education for our students and prepares them really well for that next step. And that's And that's due in no small part to all the hard work, and it really is hard work, that that um that you've done for the last 15 years. So, thank you. Um, and thank you on behalf of our entire community for your 15 years of service. That's um really truly a milestone. Ashland schools have been lucky to have you. We've all been lucky to have

you. And we wish you all the best in your next chapter and your family and your and your grandkids are extremely lucky to have you. Thank you, Randy. Thank you so much. Oh my gosh. >> [applause] >> Hi, Joe. Hi, Lori. Good evening, everyone. Personally, I just want to say that the last 15 years I've had the opportunity to be sworn at a few times >> [laughter] >> a few times during >> swearing at you. >> during those turbulent times, but I have to say the reason why I'm bringing this up is because during that time frame the divide is not there anymore. And it's because of the leadership of you, of Michael, and many of on of the boards, your board and the select board got together and said, "We're not getting anywhere Right.

fighting the ones among one another. But being united made this town much better place. Physically, it's it's been better. The policies that we came up with as a result of it Mhm. has been better for both sides, and um it's the leadership. And I just want to thank you for that. Thank you so much. >> a citation. A citation? >> have a citation. It's not a written citation. There's no money that you have to pay. >> [laughter] >> It's a proclamation. >> Now that you are retired. I am retired. For those who don't know, [snorts] I'm a retired police officer. >> [laughter] >> So, if you would want to come up here, if you would please. >> Thank you. I'm not going to cry. But I am going to say you some sentiments that Mr.

Adams mentioned a few moments ago. Whereas Laurie Tosti began serving on the school committee 15 years ago and has served as chair since 2013. And whereas during Laurie's tenure, the Ashland School Committee has transformed learning experience in the Ashland public schools. And whereas the initiatives included building the new Mindy School, navigating the pandemic, the introduction of tuition-free full-day kindergarten, and increasing diversity in the district. And whereas Laurie was instrumental in aligning the school schedule to better address the mental health and well-being of all students. As studies have shown, shifting late start times have helped teenagers lower the level of anxiety and depression. And leads to improved academic performance and overall health. And whereas Laurie understood the needs of the district and the community and the challenges that go with it. Laurie has worked hard to

meet the needs of the students while understanding the budget constraints and family sacrifices. Whereas Laurie understands the importance of advocating for funding and impacts to the that occur when funding does not meet the needs. But has worked hard to balance and face what challenges are ahead and will continue to be Ashland's biggest challenge. Now therefore, we the select board of the town of Ashland, do hereby proclaim Wednesday, May 13th, 2026 as Lori Tosti Day. >> [applause] >> Thank you. >> And it's signed by myself, Joe Magnani as the chair of the >> treasure it always. And you treasure your >> [applause] >> as a as a wonderful new member. Thank you. I know. I don't know how I'm going to follow Lori Tosti Day. I just like to turn this down a little bit. Oh,

thank you. Very short. Um hi, Mom. Hi, lovey. >> Well, every day's Lori Tosti Day over here cuz she's been helping me out a lot with my new baby. Um I wanted to just say a couple words to you from me and Chrissy and Jake and Joey. I'll be brief cuz we celebrated as a family the other day and we will later. But we just want to tell you how proud we are of you. You're such a wonderful, wonderful role model for us. Your work ethic and still being a a very present mom in all of our memories, being there for everything. We just we appreciate you more than you know and your hard work. [snorts] Being an educator myself, seeing what you've done for the town of Ashland is absolutely amazing, truly. Truly amazing.

And our my son and my brother Jake's daughter who you all just saw roll in so adorably would [snorts] be so lucky to have somebody like you, you know, in charge when they're going to school. It is such a blessing. I there's so many wonderful things to share about my mom that make her a strong leader, but the one that I'm going to share tonight that is some people have said already, but I find it probably your strongest superpower is that you have such incredible people skills and that is something that you really can't you can't always teach to somebody, especially not adults. You know, it's hard. Not all Not everybody has that. And you can be smart, and you can be a hard worker, and you can have all these other wonderful things about

you, and you can learn new things, but people skills are so nuanced, and you are a master. You get along well with people you don't get along with that you don't share the same views with. Sorry, [laughter] I I really haven't slept much in 12 weeks, you guys. I'm just kidding. But you get along well with people that you have different opposing views with, and you navigate those situations with grace, and you hear other people You hear their opinions, and you value other opinions even when they differ from your own. You make people feel seen and heard, which I know others have said tonight, but it's true. Not everybody can do that. Few can do that. So, we're really proud of you for that. And we see it in your personal life, we've seen it

in your professional life in many ways. Lots of people here, but maybe not everybody knows that you've had many professional careers, and you absolutely kill it in all of them because of that skill. So, we love you so much. We're so proud of you, and congratulations. >> you so much. >> [applause] >> Well, Lori, the Senate President and I also have citations for you. >> But I have to admit, you've never sworn at me to my face. No, I haven't. >> [laughter] >> I really feel I've missed out on something. >> that mad at you. >> No, okay. Well, there's still time. >> time. There's still time. Uh as everyone has said, as elected officials, we don't always realize how much time we take away from our families, and so I just want to join

everyone in thanking you for how much time you've allowed your mom to be and that that your wife to be a part of our lives. Uh Ashland would not be the same had you not made that sacrifice. And when you were little, you probably couldn't wrap your mind around it, but the fact that you're here, I think shows her everything she ever needed to know. Uh and as you know, everything every hour you put in was worth it. Every late phone call you put in was worth it. Uh and your kids and all the kids of Ashland's are a testament to that. Uh I have a citation also not for you to pay, uh nor was I able to sneak any Chapter 7D funding in here. All right, go back and keep trying. >> Maybe

when you say >> [laughter] >> maybe in Karen's citation. Uh but I have a citation from uh my colleagues in the house. Uh the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the House of Representatives, uh be it hereby known to all that the Massachusetts House of Representatives offers its sincerest congratulations to Lori Tosti in recognition of your 15 years of exceptional service and unwavering commitment to the Ashland School Committee. The entire membership extends its very best wishes and expresses the hope for future good fortune and continued success in all endeavors. Signed on this day, May 20, 2026. Thank you. And congratulations. >> [applause] [laughter] >> Hello, everyone. My name is Jess. I'm here on behalf of the Senate President who is very upset she could not make it today, but I'm here to present a citation from the Senate

as well. I won't read the whole thing, don't worry. Uh be it known that the Massachusetts Senate hereby extends its congratulations to Lori Tosti in recognition of the joyous occasion and joyous and happy occasion of your retirement after 15 years of service and leadership on the Ashland School Committee. I did want to add a personal note. Um I do remember as a high school student you were chaperoning my trip with the uh Make-A-Wish Club to the Give Kids the World Village. >> And to this day that's those days were some of the most important ones in my life and I know you had a big hand in making sure those trips went well. So, I want to thank you as well myself. So, >> you. Of course. Thank you so much. I'll close out the

speakers. Oh gosh. >> [laughter] >> I've never been to a school committee board meeting. 15 years. >> He wasn't even sure where we met where we met. Yeah, nobody even knows who you are. >> Robert Tosti >> [laughter] >> counsel to the chair. So, for 15 years um while she was here doing everything that she needed to do, I was mopping the Well, I had a one kid in one hand mopping the floors, >> [laughter] >> painting the house. I did it all. And then we were talking >> [snorts] >> Uh now, it's been fantastic and I was happy to uh part with Lori for whatever time was necessary for her to do this work which which was obviously important to her and important to the town. And I'm glad that you did it and

I'm uh proud of you. Love you. And thank you all for uh being cordial. I I've never even heard Lori swear. So, the fact that she swore at a meeting was kind of hard to believe. Yeah, exactly. Hello, excuse me? >> [laughter] >> Thank you very much. Love you. >> Yeah. Love you, too. Thanks, Rob. Yes. Okay, we're towards the end. Oh my gosh, thank you all. Yeah. Oh, there's more. Oh, there. Well, Okay. Oh, wow. You don't have to. Uh yeah, so [laughter] I'll I guess we'll double back and do the the high school stuff. Yeah, that stuff's boring, but If you have anything to add. Yeah, well, these past 2 years uh of being on the school committee have really been some of the most transformative of my life. Um it's crazy to

see that junior year I was kind of growing up uh and emerging into a world I can uh I had to try and fit myself in somewhere. Uh and I really kind of found my passion here being in government. Um and so I'm going to I'm eager to continue doing that. Um and it's it's really a segue to what the general experience has been for all high school students, all elementary school students um during your tenure, right? I began high school or I began Ashland public schools uh 13 years ago as a kindergartner, so and I'm graduating uh in 7 days or leaving school in 7 days. Oh my gosh. Yeah, I know. Who's counting? So those days when I was kicking a a soccer ball around at Warren or playing basketball at the old

Mendez, which you have delightedly like transformed. Uh it's it's really kind of been work that you do in the background every day that have uh shaped that whole experience of mine, right? So in in that way I feel like for the what 15 years and 200 students per class that you've mentored, uh you're kind of parents in a way to all of us. So I really thank you for your service and it's it's been great being a part of the school committee with you guys for the past 2 years. So thank all of you. Thank you. >> [applause] >> Lori, Marcy, even though [snorts] we've only known each other a short time, it's been such a meaningful time for me. Being the newest to this very long tenured committee, you brought me on, you counseled

me, you gave me great advice. You have a great mom. She is like grade A, cannot get better. I Everything you said I'm subscribed to. And I want to add, you know, my daughter has been on the Make-A-Wish trip for the last 3 years with you, and she loves you. I love her so much. >> I love her. And it's just [snorts] that care, that momness you bring shines through everything you do. And you've been a mom to Ashland, like through your work on the school committee, but also just as a person. So, we are you know, you say you're going, but I know we're going to you're going to pick up the phone. Um but I'm just so excited for you in this next chapter, and I'm just so honored to have gotten to

know you over the last couple of years. >> I got you, Marci. Thank you. Thank you. Um I'm going to try not to cry cuz I'm really I appreciate you. I appreciate you. And you have been a a member of the school committee and a chair for most of my kids' tenure through this district. Um my oldest is now a sophomore in college, my youngest is a senior in high school, and you have been a constant um through all of their years, and the changes um and the growth and the steadiness that I've seen in the district since they've been here is incredible. I mean, there's so many things that have been mentioned by many people already tonight that have benefited not only my kids, but every kid in our district, and and you're a

big part of that. And so, as a parent, thank you for your dedication cuz you've been here for a long time. You've put in a lot of hard work. Um and our kids are better for it. Um as a school committee member, um I'm very grateful to you. You welcomed me to this board um very [snorts] openly. And your leadership has helped me to be I think a more a better school committee member. You've helped me grow you know into this role as well and you've you've you've been a constant um support and I really appreciate that and I feel lucky that we've been able to develop a really lovely friendship. Um I you're fun you're delightful. I love when you're swearing. >> [laughter] >> Um you're just an incredible person and your impact is

going to be felt even with you not on this board. Your impact will be felt for a long time and I know that you will find your ways to continue to be involved um you know in terms of you know what Marcy said her daughter had the the privilege to travel with you. My son did as well. You were a chaperone for his trip when he went to Europe a couple of years ago and he had so much fun with you. He really enjoyed getting to know you as a person um and I felt very safe as a parent knowing that you were one of the adults that was there with him and you texted me extra pictures which was great. >> [laughter] >> But I'm very grateful for you and I appreciate everything that

you've done for our district and for me. I'm back at you. Thank you. >> [laughter] >> Who knows what's going to come out of his mouth. Exactly. Exactly. Lori Uh-huh. I've this is I'm finishing up my 10th year on the committee. So that sounds like a long time. It feels like a long time and then I think about it and there's 50% more of the you've put in right? So it's an additional 5 years. So that just sets in to me that the commitment you've had right? And we can talk about the accomplishments and things like that but it comes down to you right? I appreciate the partnership. We've We've been on the policy subcommittee meetings and like I'll bring my data, I'll bring my rationale, my logic, you lead with heart and passion. And

then when that didn't work, you double down on that. >> [laughter] >> And And until I relented. Uh You relented? Well, when was that? There might have been swearing involved. >> [laughter] >> Yeah, there might have There might have been some swearing involved, but uh but your leadership has been exemplary. We've not thought for a second to change that because you don't change something that's not broken, right? Um I appreciate you as a friend, as a leader, um and with that if I can take and just have the a portion of the passion and grace that you have in this role, then, you know, I think that's That's all I can take from this and try to try to emulate that. So, thank you for your service and your friendship. Thank you, Paul. I feel

the same about you. Thank you. >> Mark, I'm going to pop in so you can have the last word. I want to make sure that you are the one that does that. My long-time buddy here. Yeah. And uh when we first met, you were so just kind and genuinely thoughtful to welcome a new young green principal and provide me with some wonderful advice and wonderful feedback about leading the youngest kids in this town. Um and then I got to meet you as the assistant superintendent and I got to learn about your passionate advocacy for children, always. And how

every decision that needs to be made needs to absolutely ensure that the children are what matters the most. Every time, all the time. Then I got to experience Give Kids the World trip with you. And see your empathy, your compassion, and the the way you just truly loved being around young people because you understand the importance of relationships, and that relationships truly make education matter. And lastly, I I got to wear the hat of seeing how you were with my own child. And that means more than anything. So, when your own kid says how much they care for someone, that means a lot.
