001they've done over the course of the last few years. That really is. It really is impressive. And you know, you mentioned the playoffs. You know, they're ranked number 30 in MAA Division 2. Top 32 teams automatically go to the playoff. But, if you don't If you're outside of the top 30 and play a game if you have at least a .500 record. And even if the Clockers lose every game going out, they'll still have a .500 record. Not that that's going to happen. Um so, either way, they'll either get a direct line into the playoffs or they'll get a play-in for the playoffs. And it's it's it's a great feeling knowing that you're going to be in the playoffs. Yeah, it really is. They They clinched that playoff berth uh with their win over Millis
002last week. And I think it was really a big deal for these these players, especially the seniors and juniors who've been around for a couple years, who have uh never experienced the joy of making a state tournament berth before. So, happy for them. And uh hoping that they can, you know, even make maybe even make a little run. But right now, it's time to get some runs against this tough Norwood team, who's been playing playing really well as of late. Yeah. Yeah, I think in TVL, what um ranked number five, and Norwood's number six. So, they're, you know, pretty pretty close in terms of ability. But I think you know, I think Ashland edges edges them out a little bit if if they play to their capabilities. So, quickly looking at the lineup here, Nicole
003Eustace is going to lead off. Uh Domenico's batting second. Vendetti is in the third spot. Kyra fourth. Loralie Collette's batting fifth. Haley Butman is batting sixth. And then Kazanjian, Kriegsman, and Ali Wilson are seven, eight, nine. Nicole Eustace comes to the plate here. She is as hot as hot can be, George. She has reached safely on a hit in every game so far this season. Looking to get it started for the Clockers. Yeah, she's having uh just a heck of a year. We'll We'll maybe We'll We'll go through all of that later and talk about some of her stats. But they're off the charts. She's leading the league in a lot of uh stat category or at least a couple stat categories. And um she's doing very well. And and one thing for sure with
004Nico is I said this before, Nico is pure speed. And when she gets her bat in the ball, no ground ball is an automatic out with Nico Yustares at the plate. [screaming] Larkey finds the strike zone for strike one. It's one and one now to Yustares. I'm sorry, that's not Larkey. So so Sarah Randall. Sarah Randall is is pitching. Well, I missed the count there, George. It's two and two. I think so. Okay. All right, two and two to Yustares. Sarah Randall again in the circle for the the Mustangs. Randall toes. Randall throws. Changeup. Look going to just get over to the shortstop. Nice play there. Uh, nice play there by the shortstop Maureen Larkey to get that lazy liner from Yustares for out number one. Yeah, that was a little um I actually thought
005that ball was going to go into the outfield and it just kind of like I think there was a lot of spin on it. Died down into the infield and that was a good good catch there. Pitcher Bella Domestico, little pitcher-on-pitcher battle here. Bella takes the first pitch for ball one and oh against her counterpart in the circle. Yeah, Bella looking to help herself out here by putting some getting on base, getting some runs up on the board. Bella has been a great contact hitter for the Clockers this year. She's doing a good job in the two hole. Tough tough We're asking a lot out of a freshman here. She's pitching every game and she's batting second. I mean, talk about a pressure situation for a for a young player. I actually saw her playing
006very well. You know, she cuz she comes from a baseball family. So I'm sure from the time she was four her, you know, her dad had her out there hitting balls, catching balls. Uh singing line drives at her with no mercy and, you [crying] know, with she's she she she's grown up in it. One thing One thing's for sure, the pitcher knows the strike zone. She's up 3-1 right now. She's taking two good leads and she's ahead in the count looking for a pitch that's going to be a great one here, I would think. Domestico takes a walk, good at bat. Not afraid to take a walk there, which is getting that base runner in as he has done all year long. I would suspect that coach Larry Sasso is going to have a runner
007for Bella. As you As you may or may not know, George, we get a courtesy runner for the pitchers and catchers here in the MIA softball. So, senior tri-captain Quinn Herder is coming off the bench today to run for Bella Domestico and she's got some wheels. So, this could be a threat here threat first. Let's keep an eye on her. Ava Vendetti steps to the plate. Ava Vendetti is an RBI machine. I've said that a number of times on these broadcasts. >> [crying and screaming] >> Get a runner in a scoring position and Ava will more than likely bring her home as she takes strike one to Randall. Yeah, pitcher's on the inside uh edge of the zone. But just just enough to get a strike call. Randall hits a good shot. That's going to
008just get dropped down. Great little piece of hitting there by Ava Vendetti. She pulls one to the left side, drops it right in front of the left fielder. They'll get a little something going here, first and second with Caroline Carrey coming to the place plate and one out. Nice job. That ball was sharply hit, so Herder couldn't really take off on the hit cuz she wasn't sure whether the uh the left fielder's going to make it make her way in and catch the ball, so she just got the second base. Which Which is great. Carrey steps to the plate here against Randall with two on and one out in the bottom of the first. Takes the first pitch high, ball one. Carolyn comes into the game one of the hotter hitters for the Clockers. She's
009six for her last nine. Fouls that one off. In their first match up on George, the Clockers got off to a quick lead against the Mustangs. I'm sure they're hoping they can do that again today, especially with two on here with only one out for Carolyn. Yeah, when they face >> Carolyn takes a changeup and it goes deep to the left fielder. She hit the ball hard. She pulled it, which doesn't normally happen for her. Couldn't quite get it past the left fielder and it's going to be a long fly out to left and the runners remain at first and second. You mentioned these two teams faced each other earlier in the season and Ashton came away with a 20 to four win. I mean, a decisive victory. So, you know, Norwood really wants to
010come back and get even on that. >> And Laura Lykelette pops one up to the third Oh, she drops the ball. That's going to be an error on the third baseman keeping this inning alive and here comes Haley Buterman with the bases loaded and two outs, but could be a costly error there by the third baseman. Yeah, that ball was right there in her glove. I think it just caught the heel of the glove a little bit too much and popped out, which is a great break for Ashton. If Ashton had a base hit here, especially maybe something over the right field, will score a couple of runs. Nice if we can take advantage and Buterman hits a pop fly to the shortstop. She does not drop that one. Maureen Lucky completes the inning. The
011Clockers leave the bases loaded in the bottom of the first. They have no runs off of one hit and one error by the Mustangs, it is all locked in at 0-0 after one. Yeah, neither team draws blood in the first inning. Um Clockers even though there's no score, had had a did a better job in the first inning in terms of uh you know, getting some runners on base. Um so and going through a lot of the lineup. So, we'll see what happens here at the top of the second. Yeah, unfortunate that they could not put anybody across with runners on first and second and only one out. Uh but you know, that's the way it goes sometimes. Hopefully six Hopefully we we've got uh leading off seven, eight, nine coming up, but Ruby Casadean
012is is hitting a hot bat right now. So, she's going to lead off in the in the bottom of the second. And we will see what they can do. But right now we've got right fielder uh for the Mustangs, right fielder Hannah Grenham is leading off in the top of the first with the game tied at zero. Top of the second. Top of the second. Thanks, George. You did that on purpose just so you could give me something to say. I appreciate that. I don't know what George so far. I think you've been the most productive partner I've had even though I got to give a shout out to those other guys. Uh It's all It was a pleasure working with Win McMurry. The action action's ultimate cheerleader. And and of course I I got
013to work with Josh Abrams because I was hoping for a son, but I got Josh instead. So. >> [laughter] >> I think you can't go wrong with either one of them. They're They're both veterans of uh Wacker Broadcasting. I like to like to tease him that day that I was I was hoping for Chase, but I got Josh. Yeah, shout out to Chase Williams. Should be doing with the Palm League this summer. >> Yeah, Chase Abrams. Chase Abrams. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Sorry. Yeah. See how you come in. So, We're even and it's two it's two and oh right now to Hannah Grantham the right fielder and she's going to ground one here to Wilson. Wilson feels it clearly guns it over and the speedy Grantham beats that out on an infield hit. Tough start there
014for the Clockers in the in the top of the second. We're going to give that an infield hit. For for Grantham who did use her speed. Let's see what she does in the base paths here. That brings up Cece Index. She is a senior captain and playing left field today. Yeah, she's fast. I mean that was a good pick up. This one's right at Kazarian. It gets I'm sorry, Vendetti. Vendetti's now playing right field. So there was a move. And there's nobody there. This is going to be an unfortunate >> [screaming] >> turn of events. So we do end up getting I believe the out on a throw from Kyra over to Colette on the runner trying to turn something into a a play at third base. Carrie does gun her down for the first
015out of the inning. But when the ball was getting thrown around just a little bit too much after a misplay in right field, we do have a run on the board for the Mustangs. Yeah, that that one well that one throw back hit the runner and then the bounce then to the edge of the infield. So that is going to go [screaming] down as an E9. But then we got a two to five put out. Well, happy the Clockers at least got one out out of uh that kind of fiasco of a play. Even though the the Mustangs scored one run, we you know, we got that other runner off the base and and put it out. So it's a 1-1 count now and it's a foul ball. So it's going to be a 1
016and 2 count to the center fielder for the Mustangs. Cece Becker. Becker also a tri-captain senior uh coming in as the seventh hitter for Norwood. She laces one foul. Behind in the count now. Actually, it's two and two. Two and two to Becker. Uh Domestico looking to get another strikeout here if she can. Be nice to be able to get this batter so we don't have a the potential of turning it over to the top in this inning. >> [screaming] >> This is going to be a little ground ball to Butermann. Butermann makes the play over to Kazanjian who is in at first base uh for Vendetti who moved to right field 4-3 on the play. Yeah, nice routine play there um which of course you know, sometimes you you think it's so easy. You
017know, um fielders would take their eye off it or not not you know, completely execute the play, but that was just done very well. This brings up Audrey McDonald's who is playing first base today. Uh McDonald is the eighth hitter. Uh she took that first pitch. I I believe it was high, George. I didn't see it. Yeah, so we get one and one is the count. I This has been a little bit challenging here for us today as we are standing up in right field uh so trying to go back and forth. The view uh is a little bit My view is a little bit off. The first baseman is right at my line of sight here. Yeah, depending upon where the first baseman decides to play dictates how well we see pitch uh result,
018but we'll figure it out. >> teamwork A little teamwork never hurt anybody here, George. So, we get a we get a one and two count here to McDonald with two outs and nobody on for Bella Domestico who wheels and deals and that one's going to be low and in for ball two. You know, all year long Bella has limited walks. She's limited the to give them free pass to opponents and that has certainly been a benefit benefit to the Clockers defensively. Yeah, that's the key to any good pitcher is limiting walks. You know, you don't want to give them give your opponent a free uh ride to first base and and you know potentially cause some damage. So, you know, most top pitchers will have very few walks in the game. And with that being
019said, we've now got a three and two count here. I believe the count is now full to McDonald with two outs, nobody on in the top of the second. One came across already for the Mustangs and this is going to be the first free pass of the day for the number eight hitter. So, we've got a walk for McDonald which brings up third baseman Maddie McKee. All right, we Bella will settle down here a little bit and get these balls in the in the zone. First one is low. You know, it's too bad they couldn't get that first play on that on that ground ball the shortstop. They would be out of the inning right now home free. But, you know, that's how the things go sometimes as the umpires tightening up a little bit
020here. That that's going to be a ball two to Domestico who does love to live on the black. If she's not going to get that call, it could be a long day for her today, George. Yeah, let's let's see how these calls continue to go here. Oh, there's there's a strike. That one was fouled back. So, we've got a runner on first base here with Domestico up down two and one uh to McKee. Domestico takes a look at her fielders. Butermann moves over a little bit. She wheels and deals. Changeup in for a strike, strike two. That's a nasty little changeup she's got there. You know something? I was just going to ask you don't watch much softball as you do. I watch a lot of baseball. But in terms of pitch variety here at
021the high school level, is it that pre- predominantly but what you're saying >> that ground ball right over to Kazanjian getting out of the inning, uh Butermann over to Kazanjian, and that's going to be one run on one on two hits uh for the Mustangs who take a one to nothing lead going into the bottom half of the second inning. And Georgia, do you want to continue your thought there? Yeah, so following up on it so at the the uh high school softball level in terms of pitch variety, what do you primarily see? Fastballs and changeups? Or there are other other sort of pitch varieties that you're seeing? >> Yeah, we sure I mean the the best of the best have a number of different pitches. Um probably one of the most difficult pitches to
022hit from some of these girls is a rise ball. When that ball comes in looking like it's going to be a nice strike right down the middle and it'll just come up on you. That rise ball's tough. Other girls have a drop. And uh even some girls throw a screwball uh and a little bit of a curve. So, there's a number of different pitches that they throw. Uh I've been having a blast myself right now. I I've become a a big fan of softball watching these college tournaments. And you can watch them come unbelievable. And the the movement on these balls is is sometimes ferocious. And also, the way that the spin rate We talk about spin rate at the at the at baseball level. We talk about lot a lot about that, but these
023girls can put a spin on the ball, which makes it so hard uh to hit the ball hard sometimes. So, it might the velocity might not seem like it's coming in that hot, but that spin really keeps kids from getting a good good barrel on it. >> And have you seen the variety of Have you seen some of the high school girls throwing some of the pitches that you're talking about? You know, a riser or Yeah, we've >> You know, a screwball or Yeah, certainly. So, uh we've they've faced a couple of really good pitchers so far this year. Sarah Randall being one of them. She She's got a nice uh variety of pitches, but they they faced a They faced Norton. Uh Leanna Donahue is one of the best pitchers in the state. Um
024As Casadean grounds one to third, and that ball gets over to first base on the first pitch. A quick quick ground out by Casadean, 5-3, and we've got one out early here in the the second inning, which brings up uh one of the best golfers in the state of Massachusetts, Rebecca Kriegsman, who's here uh playing left field and batting eighth for the Clockers. Kriegsman shows bunt, takes strike one. Lash will make it through We'll get through the lineup here at the bottom of the second inning. Yeah, we're hoping to to turn it over to the top here for for Nico. If Rebecca can get on, Rebecca's a really good contact hitter. She puts her bat on the ball generally. Takes that one in for ball one. That's one of the things that I like really
025about Rebecca. She does tend to put her bat on the ball. Randall tosses and throws. That one's down in the dirt. Good leave by Rebecca, but if anybody can hit that one, it's her. That's her ball. It's It's right up her alley, I think. Another good leave by Kriegsman, who gets up in the count three and one now against >> [screaming] >> Randall. Uh a walk would be a great thing right now here, George. It would. That was a great job laying off that pitch. That's the pitch um you know, of shoulder height that usually kids, you know, especially at the high school level always jump on. And you can see she twitched a little bit and then she held off and she took the ball and now she gets a walk. Yeah, Kriegsman works
026a walk which brings up to the plate uh sophomore Ali Wilson. Ali Wilson making her varsity start here at shortstop in the nine hole hoping to turn this thing over to Nico. Showing bunt, lays down a nice bunt down the third baseline. And she's not able to beat it out, but she does get a sacrifice bunt there moving Rebecca into scoring position. Does her job. Great job by there there by Ali. That was a beautiful bunt. Um for you know, small field it's very very difficult to run out bunts in softball unless they're just amazingly placed. Um but at the end of the day the bunt you just trying to get the runner over and you know, she did her job. She does do her job and that brings up Nico Eustace who takes strike
027one. Uh again Nico always a threat at the plate. She's hitting up over 600 for the season hoping that we can get one of her classic line drives here into the outfield. >> [crying] >> And Eustace another another lazy one to shortstop, but she beats it out. She is safe. I told you, George, no ball is safe in the ground. Yeah, you told me she was fast, but I saw that play develop and I thought oh, that's too bad she's out cuz the ball was hit sharply to shortstop. Shortstop grabbed it, rifled it to first, and amazingly I look up and she's by first base. Nico is far and away the fastest kid on this team, probably one of the [screaming] fastest in the state as Domestico shows bunt and they're not even going to
028attempt. That's going to be a catcher's interference as Eustace takes second base on >> [screaming] >> Randall's first pitch to Domestico. They'll need a base hit here. Base hit help yourself here, Bella. Base hit to help herself. And it's going to be a pass ball, and she's going to get in. Kriegsman scores without any kind of issue there. So, the the the Clockers managed to get one across on the pass ball. I was just going to say we we need a base I was going to say or a pass ball. And I we hadn't seen one yet today. And and that's the first pass ball. It was like perfect timing for a pass ball for Ashley and with tie the score. And with Nico on third, another one is basically a guaranteed run. So, you
029got to squeeze that there. Domestico up. She swings and misses. Yeah. You got to count for me here, George, please. So, we got two and one to Domestico. Oh, okay. Randall toes and throws. And Domestico swings and misses. It's going to be two and two here with two outs and one runner on third in the bottom of the second. Thought Domestico looking to help herself here, George. Let's see if she can do it. Yeah. Exactly. [crying] Wait a minute. That one's going to Wow. And a nice play on a in a high pop up in foul territory. Uh Yeah. McDonald over to McDonald. She makes the play to end the inning. Uh but, the Clockers do answer back with a run of their own. Uh they do leave one more runner on base. They strand
030one. But, with uh one infield hit and a pass ball, the Clockers are able to get a run across. And uh we're we're not cooking. Back one to one going to the top of the third. >> Back one to one. Yeah, just chipping away. Um that foul ball catch, you know, Well, McDonald's running into the fence like that, uh towards the fence is a really tough play to make cuz you have to get over there very fast, but you don't want to go too fast and hit the fence. So, usually, you know, the the the fielder will pull away from that, but she just did a great job on that pop foul um for the third out um you know, to to go to the next inning. Yeah, nice a nice play, nice defensive play.
031Uh and and that's a it's a big play, too, right? Because if you you get you get the runner on third base, you get domestic going another chance, you never know what's going to happen. She has been hitting the ball pretty well this season. But nonetheless, the clock is due get one across, and which brings us into the top of the third with Bella back in the circle, and she's going to be facing the top of the order as Cordani, Amato, and Larkey are coming to the plate. Liliana Cordani went down looking in the first inning. She's certainly going to be up ready to hit here in the top of the third. Yeah, both teams now with two hits each. Um and um on top of you Ashland had had two walks, and Norwich only
032had one walk. So, you know, things right now are pretty even between the two teams. Cordani takes the first one low for ball one. Bella looking to see what she can do here against the Mustang catcher. That one looked good, strike one inside corner for Bella, that's the pitch I said that she needs to get to her. That is. That was a That looked like a nice fastball, just right in there. Next time we do a game, we have to go behind the plate so I can actually get a good look at these Woah! There is not a chance you can do that with somebody else. I told you. That was a hot shot over the left fielder's head. That thing was hit really hard. That was the best hit of the day so far.
033Uh Liliana Cordani laces one over Rebecca Crisman's head for a one hop fence double and there was a runner in scoring position uh for the Mustangs here in the bottom of the second. Yeah. So, George, I apologize that I'm not letting you be behind the plate today, but you you can we got the wireless mics if you want to go back there, you probably can. No, I you know, I mean what I I Well, >> That's going to be another hit. This one to Kriegsman who does not handle it cleanly. I'm not so sure if that would have mattered. I think that runner was going to be there anyways. Uh the left fielder gets it in and it is already two to nothing now in the top of the third with no outs and runner
034on first base after Amado's hot single. Yeah, there was no way that that um I don't think from that position she'd be able to make a play on the runner. So, really all she needed to do was make sure that the you know, the the batter didn't get over to second base, which she did. So, you know, you know, limit it to one run and keeping the runner on first and hopefully limit the damage to that. So, you know, for for the rest of the inning. Mari Larkey comes to the plate. Uh Larkey did single in the first inning. Still no outs here. That's going to be ball two to Larkey who's up two and oh now against the Mestico uh with the runner on first in the top of the third. And that's going
035to be a hot shot to the right fielder, [screaming] Kazanjian. No problem. She does throw it back to first just in case. Nice heads up play there by Ruby getting that thing back to first base just in case she could catch her sleeping. But, a nice catch down the last one. We've got one down here in the third. Yeah, nice catch, nice throw. Runner wasn't that far off the base, so um you know, luckily they executed on that play rather than allowing the runner to go. That's going to be in for a first pitch strike to Randall as again we have that pitcher versus pitcher match up here. Domestico gets ahead 01 on her counterpart. That's going to be another foul ball back. Carrick can't quite get there. She made that one then we would
036have been sending it to SportsCenter. Yeah, that was a very low pop up and she would have to have you know, had to sprint her speed the second it went up in the air and and lay herself out to have a possibility of catching that one. It's 02 nonetheless. So hopefully we can get another another strikeout here for Domestico who looks like she does just Oh, just misses that one. Again, it looked No, it was indeed strike three as I thought it was. It was just a delayed call. I didn't see the umpire signal. But it didn't give me my chance to say that was a backwards K for Bella D and we've now got two outs in the bottom of the third which brings up the right fielder Grenon. Changeup in for a strike.
037Bella's Bella's got that changeup working right now. Yeah, that looked really good. Um, you know, hit a Grenon. It looked completely confused on that one which is the whole purpose of throwing that changeup. And then another one. >> a nice easy grounder over to Collette who makes the play to Vendetti 5-3. We get out of the inning with a little bit of harm done there on the two hot shots to start the inning. The double by Cordani and the RBI single by Amato. So one run comes in on the two hits. So that is going to mean that the Mustangs do take a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of third. Yeah, couple of really nice hits there from part of the Mustangs. Some very sharply hit balls. Um, Ashley needs to come back and
038and do the same. Now now we're getting a little bit deeper into the game, maybe the pitch is slowing down a little bit and Ashley batters will be able to get up there, get some balls in play, make something happen here. Yeah, the the bats really have not been working too hot yet for uh the the the Clockers. Um Nico had a Nico had a an infield hit uh in the in the second. >> Yep. Other than that, I think the only other hit so far today um Jeez, who who got that other hit? I believe that was Ava Vendetti who did hit a nice nice shot into uh into the outfield earlier for a single and she's going to lead off here. So, Vendetti >> Actually, Larkey. No, Larkey was hitting for the Mustangs.
039So, I'm sorry. So, yeah, so Vendetti So, Vendetti does come to the plate one for one on the day looking to get things going in the bottom of the third. I like I like this part of the order, 3-4-5 coming up for the Clockers. If Vendetti, Kyra, and Colette can hopefully get something started here for this young Clocker team. Yeah, if even one run just to, you know, feel like you're out of the hole a little bit and you you have the game tied up would be uh you know And Vendetti starts it off with a with a shot to center field. She hit it hard enough center field had to come charging in. She doesn't make the play. So, that is going to go down as an error on the center fielder. But Ava
040does her part and reaches on that low liner uh to center field and she's on first base, which brings up Caroline Kyra with one out. Actually, while you were keeping score, she stole second base because the ball was going around the infield and she by great heads-up play, she saw that uh nobody was paying attention to her and she made her way over to second base. >> A huge heads-up play by Vendetti uh putting her in scoring position for Kyra, who is 0 for 1 on the day. She takes the first ball high. Uh Kyra did fly out to left field in her first at bat looking for her first hit of the day. Takes ball two high from Randall. Uh, Yeah, that still happened so fast she didn't even see it. Didn't even see
041it happen. And that's that's just tremendous heads-up base running by Eva Vendetti. I looked down for half a second. Kyra does put one to the spot where she normally hits it opposite field a little liner, but that thing went foul and she's going to be up two and one right now after the foul ball down the right field line. On the positive side, you know, the Clockers are making a lot of contact. You know, we're not seeing uh, you know, strikeouts here. We're seeing a lot of contact being made and just a matter of getting that ball into the right place in the field to cause some damage and start to get some runs going. Kyra's up three and one right now after taking a low ball to Randall. She certainly would like to see
042a strike here and put a barrel on one. Kyra takes ball four. Not something that she wants to do, but a walk there is just as good as a hit and I imagine you will see Larry Sasso get a courtesy runner for his catcher as he brings in senior tri-captain Taylor Kotch to come in and run for Caroline Kyra. Um, And the Mustangs come in and take a little conference with the coach. Now that we have two runners on on base trying to settle the team down, I'm sure. Um, you know, you'll get them back focused so that um, they prevent some runs being scored. Yeah, this is a good opportunity here for the Clockers to put something on the board. They're They're got their first two runners on, uh, first and second uh, with
043no outs. Number five hitter Lorelei Coletta who does have some power. Colette did hit her first fast pitch of the home run against Bellingham earlier in the year. Uh, but all we want right now is really just a base hit to the right side of the right side so we can move these runners over. Right. And Colette pops one foul. Yeah, so what we probably don't want to do is is is pop one up right now. >> Right. Yeah, absolutely not. Luckily that one was just far enough over. I think it actually landed like on the fence. The third was adjacent to the third baseman but she just couldn't Yeah. >> on it. >> Got to imagine Larue is saying keep this ball level, keep it down. Line drive ground ball right now is what
044we really want by Lorelei who takes a ball low. In the count is going to be one and one to the third baseman. The sophomore third baseman for Ashland. Randall wheels, deals and she swings and misses. Catcher does not handle it. So it allows for Vendetti really heads up base running to take third and Kotch takes second base on that mishandle by the catcher. Yeah, she's quick too cuz that ball was not far away from the from the catcher. The catcher actually picked it up pretty quickly and got it down to third base very well. But Vendetti just had some great speed and got herself over there just ahead of the tag. So now we have two runners on scoring position for Lorelei Colette and it's a whole new ball game. Now I don't have
045to worry about keeping it on the ground but if you can't put it to the right side, that's really what you want to do right now. >> Right. Although a long fly ball does score a run uh with Vendetti on third. And this one's going to just get over >> Gets over. That's He calls it a foul. >> Foul ball down the third baseline just over the outstretched reach of the third baseman. Um but she could not quite get there and Lorelei Colette stays live. Yeah, from here I thought it scraped her glove but there's an umpire right behind us so he would have seen that. Um but it it got over it. And this one IS A LONG SHOT OVER THE CENTER FIELD. THIS ONE IS ONE hop the fence. Loralie Colada is going
046in for two. It is a stand-up two RBI double for Loralie Colada. It does exactly what she needs to do in a big spot. Puts that thing over the center fielder and we've got ourselves a Clocker lead. What a time to come in with that shot right to center field, you know, especially two strikes on her, too. Um and she just ripped that ball right over the center fielder's head. Easy stand-up double. A tremendous piece of two strike hitting there for Loralie Colada. And that's that's a two RBI double right there, which is exactly what they needed in this spot here in the bottom of the third to give them a three to two lead. And now no outs and a runner on scoring position for Haley Butera. Yeah, Butera you know, went to bunt
047on um first pitch trying to move the runner over. It didn't work out, so she has the strike. And she shows bunt again there. >> Again. And now she's going to be down 0 and 2. Um yeah, tough tough tough way to start the at bat with two bunts that we couldn't get down, but I have faith in Haley. Haley's a good another another one who puts her bat in the ball, good contact hitter. Yeah. Makes it harder with, you know, no balls, two strikes. So she'll shorten up here, shorten up little little swing. Shows again and she does get this one down. A nice bunt down the third baseline. Haley has great wheels, tremendous speed down the line. She beats it out, perfectly placed bunt and we've now got trouble for the Mustangs. We've
048got first and third with no outs, speed on the bases and a big bat up in Ruby Casadean. That was a great bunt laid down the third baseline. I'm kind of surprised the pitcher picked it up as fast as she did. I thought she'd see if it rolled a little more, but you know, well, there you go. Well, Casadean was taking all the the there as they had the steal on. So, Butera moves over to first [screaming] and over over to second with catcher's indifference and and Ruby does take the strike. Uh and we'll see what she does now down 0 and 1. Second and third, we've got runners on second and third situation again. A nice piece of hitting by Zadian who waits on the changeup. A really nice piece of hitting by Ruby
049there and then heads-up base running by Ruby who takes second base after the RBI single uh to left field. Really love the way she she waited on that, took it to left field. A really nice piece of hitting by number 16. That was great hitting. Butera man, like you know, overran third base a little bit so they threw the ball over trying to get her. And you know, great heads-up play there. Uh you know, first base coach as well who's over there um you know, yelling out instructions to get her over to second base. And again, runners on second and third with no outs. I feel like I feel like we keep saying that this inning. Yeah, and this is exactly what they needed. They needed to try to put a crooked number up here
050in the bottom of the third and Kreisman takes the first pitch as a strike down 0 and 1, but she puts one on the ground. Butera man, beats it. >> [screaming] >> Fast. She had She took a tremendous jump. She has a lot of guts going for that. [laughter] Uh but you know what, she's the kind of kid who can make a play like that because she's got tremendous speed and she was able to beat the throw. Rebecca reaches first, runner on first and third. Butera man's in on the RBI infield fielder's choice uh by Rebecca Kreisman. I'm going to give her a single because I like her. Mike will write it on the official scoreboard as a fielder's choice though. We will see. Yeah, Butera man had a great slide there. I mean, she
051just she came in right under that tag. I mean, it it the play was all unfolded right in front of her and I don't know how she got her foot in there. But she was able to score. Tremendously aggressive base running by the Clockers and you manufacture runs that way. When you have speed on the bases, you're a dangerous weapon. Yeah. Yeah, I'll give a lot of credit to the coaching staff um for getting the team to to be this aggressive on the base paths. And it's and it's it's working. So, when Al Al Wilson is falling behind, you're one and two, I believe, is the count. Wilson up with runners on second and third and no outs. And she takes it. Ball inside. Two and two is the count, I believe, George. So, in
052her first time up, Wilson grounded it out to third. Not sure if we'd be taking the same risk on a ground ball this time. Wilson takes a tight pitch there on a three Now, it's three and two. Ball four here is just as good as a hit with the top of the order coming up and no outs. So, Allie Wilson looking to see if she can reach base any way possible. Yeah, Wilson, number ninth batter here in the lineup. Um so, you know, like you said, we're running to the top of the order. Right now, we have a little conversation going on with the umpire. I don't know what the nature of the conversation is, but Yeah, I'm not really sure, either. >> the uh Norwood coach. Now, the Austin coach is walking over to
053kind of ask what's going on. I would It would appear to me that the only possible question she could have is whether or not Wilson is batting in the right spot. But, we have her in the right spot where she should be. So, I'm not really sure what the question is here. Yeah. Uh I I do not think there could be a a question about it. But, let's see what what ends up happening. Uh looks like Coach Sasso was able to go and straighten up any potential uh doubt that they may have had. And we are going to get back to business here with three and two to sophomore shortstop Allie Wilson with no outs and runners on second and third. Full count. Wheels and deals and she takes ball four. I thought that was
054ball four. Yeah, ball four. It is indeed ball four. I think I think she forgot what the count was. There were so many balls thrown on that last one. >> have got the bases loaded here for the top of the order, Nico Yustaris. A really dangerous spot here for the Mustangs. This thing could potentially get blown wide open right now. And Yustaris puts one into center field and that is going to be a base hit knocking in Kazanjian. Base hit single RBI single for Nico into center field. Another run scores as Kazanjian moves in from third. Kriegsman heads over to third, Wilson to second and the bases are still loaded for Bella Domestico with no outs. Yeah, that was the you know, having having Yustaris, you know, [crying] at at bat with bases loaded and
055no outs is pretty much the ideal situation for the Clockers. Absolutely. Getting to the top here is the ideal situation with no outs, right and the bases loaded to the top of the order. Bella Domestico takes a ball high. Two balls. Yeah, this is again, perfect situation. Top of the order coming up, no outs, bases loaded. Every hit, every walk scores a run. Domestico takes another one, three and 0. 3-0 here. This is This is an automatic take here, you would have to think, George. There is no chance she's swinging at this pitch. I would have to believe that she's getting the take sign and she does indeed show take all the way. That knocks an RBI in on the walk. And we've got another run as Domestico works the walk, Yustaris over to second,
056Kriegsman in to score and Wilson moves on over to third. That brings up Ava Vendetti for her second at bat of the inning as Quinn Herder moves to courtesy run for Bella Domestico. Vendetti got this thing going in to start the inning with the error by the center fielder. Yep, and now we're at 7-2. If Vendetti hits an opposite field that's going to drop. That's going to drop. That's going to drop. It goes by the right fielder. Nico is heading around third. She's looking to score without any problem. A two RBI single for Ava Vendetti and what I tell you George, when Nico even has a chance to sniff home plate, she's going to get there. >> [crying] >> Yeah, I thought that that drop was going to score one run easily, but the ball
057would be thrown in. But, you know, I think the the right fielder took a little bit of a step. Nico saw the opportunity as well as the third base coach and sent her around. Oh, and Caroline takes one. Looked like it hit her right in the shoulder. She's not going to be happy cuz I know she wants to hit. I know her pretty well. So, she wants to hit, but she's taken one. And she takes one right off the the the shoulder. As we say at home, way to wear it, Caroline. Took a tough one there. But, she got on base and now we got the bases juiced for Lorelei Collett, who is the one who had the huge hit earlier in this inning. Clockers are now up 9-2. They're They're just right racking up
058the score this inning. This is a phenomenal And another base hit by Collett, who rips a single. It's an RBI single by Lorelei that hits keep coming. The RBI single there by Lorelei knocks in Quinn Herder, who was running for Bella Domestico, Vendetti over to third, Taylor Kotch over to second, who's in for Kyra. And Lorelei is now at first bringing the bases loaded up for Hailey Buterman who takes ball high. This is a heck of an inning right here, George. We had We've had 12 batters come up, still no outs, and nine runs. Yeah, that's a fantastic inning. The last ball was hit so sharply to center field that the runners, yeah, even the runner on third, they just did not have the opportunity to make it home. I don't even know if Nico
059could have made it uh on that on that blast in the center field, but what you said, this is amazing. We still Oh, hey Haley looked like she was a little unsure on that last swing. I think she was trying to maybe hold back, but she kept it more of a defensive swing than we usually see out of her. Uh she tends to have a a shorter swing, so let's see what she does here. That's outside. And now it's three and one to Butera man, who again, a walk here a walk here knocks in a run. Uh so something that you certainly [music] want to think about is taking here with three and one. Yeah, I mean 10-2, bases loaded. Hits a ground ball to the shortstop, who goes to second base for one out.
060So Butera man reaches on the fielder's choice, does still knock a run in. RBI for her. As Venditti comes in to score. Uh Koch goes over to third. Colette gets out on the 6-4, and Butera man reaches on the fielder's choice. Butera man basically walks down to second base with on catcher indifference. So now we've got runners on first and second uh with Casadian up, who took the first pitch for a ball. Casadian also hit an RBI single uh earlier in this inning. She's looking for her second hit of the game and second hit of the inning. That'd be nice. And she puts one just foul. That would have been beautiful placement, cuz absolutely two runs would have come in on that opposite if that thing had just snuck inside the the the foul line.
061>> and that ball was hit right towards us, so we saw it land maybe 1 ft outside of the foul line. But you're right, if that was inside it would have squirreled its way against the fence and two runs would have scored. So, Kazanjian is is one and one I believe and she takes ball outside. Two and one is now the count for Ruby. I think it's two Three and one. Three and one to Ruby. And she takes ball four inside and the bases are going to once again be loaded. Bases loaded now with one out. Well, we've played most of the inning with bases loaded and no outs. So, let's let's let's continue to cause some damage here. Kriegsman comes to the plate, takes first pitch strike. Again, Kriegsman also with a single in
062in the second inning. She's reached base twice today with a single and a walk. That's going to be ball two ball one high one and one now on Rebecca Kriegsman. Well, George, this is the kind of inning they needed. That's for sure. This is yeah. After after coming through the first couple of innings to to land in this inning and I've It's going to be a ground ball back to the pitcher. Another run scores as Randall does not get it home. I'm not so sure if she might be a little bit hurt right now. That didn't come out of the glove very quick. Yeah, I don't know what happened here. She looks like she's in some pain. That she picked up the ground ball and then almost couldn't throw the ball quickly to home. >>
063Yes, so >> Like there was some kind of issue there. So, we're going to give that an infield hit by Kriegsman. Kazanjian moves over to second, Buterman over to third. Klotz, who's running for Kyra, scores. So, that is going to be the 11th run of the inning with the bases still loaded. And one out. Yeah, hopefully Randall's okay. I mean, she she screwed up with that ball. It was a it was a very easy out at home. And obviously something happened during that play and she's like walking very gingerly off the field. I hope um everything is okay with her. It's just a minor um injury. So I I I did not expect that to be a hit or an error on that play. >> Yeah. Yeah, you never you never want to see a
064a kid have to leave a game um with with an injury. Hopefully she will make a quick comeback to the lineup for the Mustangs. But nonetheless, it looks like they are bringing in a new pitcher. I can't quite tell yet who that is. They didn't give me their entire lineup here, George. So I'm going to go see if I can get on their game changer. >> it was whoever was playing left field. She had to come out, but the catcher also went into the dugout. I don't know if maybe she just needed a drain, but it seems like the same catcher is back out there. Well, we we don't So no, that is a new catcher. >> a new catcher. >> So that's definitely a new catcher. Yeah, maybe it's the catcher who's moving the
065pitcher. So I'm going to see if I can hop on their game changer. Uh cheat a little bit and go on the Norwood Mustangs game changer app. Yeah, there she is, number two. So it looks like uh Into pitch right now is number seven. Number seven? That looks like number seven to me. So that looks like Liliana Cordani, who was catching. So Cordani moves from behind the plate to the circle. >> Okay. That makes sense. And we're not quite sure who the catcher is just yet. Uh but we will get you that, folks, when it comes. Going to give you a quick line here on Randall. Uh if you want to Maybe you can take a look at at Randall's line and let the folks know what she did for the day. Uh let's see.
066Yeah. Yeah, Randall um she you know, pitched for just over two innings. They uh gave up eight hits. Um and 12 runs. 10 of those were earned runs. She had six walks and no strikeouts. Um I don't know how long she was uh you know, feeling whatever injury that she does have may have been lingering a little bit earlier in the game um or maybe it was something that just happened on that last play. But um you know, we'll we'll have a new pitcher in now for Norwood. Yeah, so Liliana Court Donny comes in and Ali Wilson does get that one just through the infield. Kazadian comes around from second. She scores two RBI single for Ali Wilson. That's a big hit by the sophomore making her varsity debut uh as she moves Kriegsman over
067to second and Kazadian and Buterman both come in to score the 12th and 13th run of this inning number three. Eustace puts one to the second baseman. They're trying to get two but that's not going to happen with her. And we round They got her. >> third and they do get Ali Wilson trying to sneak one past them. Uh so that's that's going to be um the old double play the hard way there, George. >> Well, you know, when you have when you're having an aggressive base running team, that's going to happen sometimes. Um because you know, you you are pushing it. You know, you're you're on the edge there. You're you're making just barely making plays. You know, we saw a couple of um plays at home where you know, Ashland girls just got
068in there on time. That one is just a little bit late. Um but that happens. That was a That was a really good heads-up uh double play there for Norwood to end that inning. I mean, it was That was a very damaging inning. Um You know, the You know, that that Ashland had. It was What do we have? 12 runs? 13 runs in that inning? >> So, yeah. So, I'm going to try and see if I can do my best to figure this out. The Clockers played 13 Yeah, 13 runs in that inning. >> played 13 off of 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Seven hits? Eight. I have eight hits for the Clockers. >> I have seven for that inning. But >> Seven? Okay. Well, that's You're on the GameChanger app. That's more
069official. >> It's a difference of opinion. >> Yeah. Yeah. So, nonetheless, 13 runs, seven hits. They do They do leave uh one runner stranded um for the for the Clockers in that third inning. Uh saying a quick hello to Lily Bean Cairo who came over. She's not supposed to be here though, so keep her walking away. >> [laughter] >> Uh So, we're going to lead off here in the in the top of the fourth with a 14 to 2 lead for Ashland. And this brings up CC Indeck, the left fielder for the Mustangs. Who did Who did uh single her first time up. And that's going to be a weak grounder over to Butermann. Easy play 4-3 for Haley. Haley to Ruby. And we've got one out here in the top of the fourth. That's
070going to be a devastating inning for for Norwood who was playing pretty well in this game. And when the Clockers bats just come alive, it's it's it's hard to to come back from that. It It is hard to come back and not only that, but it gave Bella a tremendous rest. Um And she hit hot shot to Butermann and we get a quick second out. Becker grounds out 4-3. Haley Butermann pretty busy here in the top of the fourth inning. Uh she makes two quick plays and it's already two outs here in the fourth. Yeah, I think Bella's had like maybe three pitches this inning and has two outs. This is the kind of inning that uh she could use, especially after uh Marshall put all those runs up. It'd be nice to get them
071right back on right back on those bats, right? Get them right back going. McDonald steps up to the plate and she fouls the first pitch off. So, it's going to be a strike one to McDonald, the first baseman, uh who did uh reach base via a free pass in her first at bat in the second. Yeah, the tough thing with Norwood, you know, the number one pitcher was out and usually these softball teams have one main pitcher. Um so whoever typically is in is, you know, the second in line of pitching and uh >> [screaming] >> it gives a little bit of an advantage to the team at bat. So, Bella toes and throws here and she's going to go high. So, it's going to be two and one here to McDonald in the top
072of the fourth with two outs. It'd be really nice if Bella can get McDonald's here and and get right back right back to the plate for the Clockers. Changeup. That looked like a good It It was a good pitch. It's called strike. I I tell you what, when she's got that changeup going, George, she really does fool batters. She's got a tremendous off-speed pitch. She put that one past her. Let's see if she can go one one more buyer here and that one's right down the middle for a backwards K for Bella D and we are out of that inning 1-2-3 going into the bottom of the fourth. No runs on no hits for the Mustangs [music] and the Clockers are getting back to it with Domestico leading off in the bottom of the fourth
073up 14 to two. Yeah, one thing Bella does with that changeup is her delivery looks exactly like her fastball. And I'm sure she's worked on that cuz it's it's very hard to throw two completely different pitches like that. Um but the batter doesn't has no idea that a changeup's coming and she you know she does a great job in there fooling the batter with those. Yeah, Bella has been pitching at a high level for several years. She's a kid who has dedicated herself to the craft ever since she was a young kid. Uh she does play high-level club softball. She's playing at the U18 level as a freshman. Uh she saw time at the U18 level as an eighth-grader over the summer. She's a kid who loves the game, knows the game. And um I
074think the future is really bright for Bella. I mean she is only a freshman and she is carrying the load uh for this team in the circle and again she's she's the number two hitter on this team. It's amazing and you know I don't want to look past this year. I mean this team is fantastic and we're we're going to be rooting for them and we're hoping for them to go all the way. But we were talking earlier that the next couple of years really look good for the Clockers given some of the freshmen and sophomores and even you know juniors that are here. I mean there's going to be you know we we never like to see the seniors go. They're such a part of the team and make the character of the team
075and they've been playing with this team for so long. But as you were saying I mean for for a couple of years to come we're going to have a very strong team here. Yeah, this team is really young uh and they've got tremendous senior leadership too. That's one thing that uh has been nice, right? There is there seems to be a a good team synergy right now. The three seniors are great kids who have provided really nice leadership uh specifically for the younger kids. They've got a couple pretty talented juniors and then this freshman and sophomores is just riddled >> [crying] >> with talent. Um I don't know really what's coming up for the for the Clockers in the next couple years in terms of eighth and seventh grade talent. I don't know those years
076all that well like I know these current years. Uh but I think the future is pretty bright at least for the next 3 years as the Mastico fouls one back behind the Norwood dugout. Uh to lead off here in the bottom of the fourth. Did they do I haven't been in this field in a while, Mike. Have they done Have they done some work on it? They've done some significant work actually to this field as the Mastico is down one and two with the pitch a changeup. She waits on it and she She's a little bit early but she did have some patience waiting on that changeup and pulled it foul. Yeah, George, the the the Department of Public Works here uh did a tremendous job getting some new infield dirt and doing some leveling
077[crying] >> [screaming] >> in for this infield. Uh it's it's a whole new infield. >> That's a ball. And what's been nice so far is we haven't had a rainout which in the past has been an automatic rainout. Uh the girls played most of the first half of the season over at Acton Middle School while the while the field is still getting ready. As the Mastico does hit a hot shot but a center fielder the center fielder number um who is in the game. She's a replacement here. I'm not exactly sure what her name is as as I did not get the entire roster. But I'm going to have to get her name. That's a heck of a catch there uh by the center fielder for the Mustangs on a really hot shot ball uh
078by the Mastico. And and that It followed up by Vendetti who laces a line drive double to right field. Great shot there by Vendetti. So, we've got the fly out to center to start followed up by another double for Ava Vendetti. George, she's a doubles machine. I think that may be number 10 on the season for Ava. That was a beautiful slicing bomb line drive that just worked its way away from the right fielder over towards the foul line. And she saw that right away and just kept those kept her wheels going right around first base to have for an easy double there. Kyra Kyra super aggressive on that first one. Swung at one that was a little high. Fouls it off. Looks like she's looking for her first hit of the day after a
079fly out, a walk, and a hit by pitch. And she swings and misses on that one. Strike two. She's down now 0 and 2. Uh so, I I probably shouldn't even say it, but Kyra has not struck out all season. And yeah, you shouldn't have said that. >> I did just say it. Uh she's down 0 and 2. Let's see if she can shorten her swing up here and and and put [screaming] this ball in play. And she's going to foul one back. That's going to get just out of play. She's got a new life here. Uh she's still going to have to fight 0 and 2. And the center fielder, um who made that great catch, was Becker. Uh Becker made a nice catch on that on that play by uh on that hit
080by Bella Domestico. Yeah, she she ranged all the way over to the right field. Almost all the way to the right field or and made that catch which and did two hands, textbook catch, great job there. 0 and 2 to Kyra who takes one high with Vendetti over at second. 1 and 2. Uh Cordani looking to see if she can get the number four hitter out for the Clockers who is 0 for 1 on the day. Still only one out here. Low roller. Kyra definitely wasn't swinging on one. >> Yeah, low is an understatement. Yeah, ball rolled in over the plate. So, Carolyn again looking for her first hit of the day against Cordani. She's now back two and two. Takes one high. Three and two is the count. Good job working that count from
0810 and 2 back to 3 and 2. Yeah, she's a tough out. She's a tough out, George, and hopefully she can put her bat in the ball here and and get herself an RBI. And and that one's going to probably get caught. Foul pop up by Kyra. Gets underneath it and not really what you want to do in that situation is is is pop out uh leaving the runner stranded at second base. So, Kyra's 0 for 2 on the day with that pop up to >> No. pop ball to the first baseman. Yeah, that's true. You know, with two strikes on you, though, if you see that ball coming and you think it may be a strike, you know, sometimes it's a it's a protective swing. And then that's what happens. Um you know, you
082may get under a little bit, pop it up, but you know, at the end of the day you're trying to protect the plate and not get a strikeout. This brings up Lorelei Collette takes the first pitch as a ball. Collette again is is having a good day so far. Strike one to her. Uh Lorelei comes in at 2 for 3 today on the day having herself a nice a nice little Monday afternoon. Takes ball high. It's two and one here to Lorelei. Lorelei hits a line drive to the shortstop. That one's going to be cleaned up easily there for the lineout and the Clockers go down. Uh go go go down pretty lightly there in that inning. Uh, no runs on one hit by the double by Vendetti. She is stranded at second base, but
083they still are going into the fifth inning with a 14-2 lead. Yeah, nice nice job there by Locky. You know, she was cheating over a little bit towards second base. Um, you know, from the shortstop position, not playing right in the middle, you know, the way some of them usually do. And she was in a great position to charge that ball come in, you know, again, grab it, get her hand over it, keep it in the glove, and make that last out. So, this is the important inning here for for the Clockers, George. So, I'm not so I know that you haven't done a whole lot of softball. So, it is a 12-run mercy rule. So, if the Clockers can hang on here to their current 12-run lead uh, after the first half of the
084fifth inning, this game will come to an end. It will be a 14-2 final. If the Mustangs can put one across, this thing is going to continue, and we'll see a bottom of fifth. We we might we must have some kind of Vulcan mind meld going, cuz I was just going to ask you about the mercy rule in softball. Yeah, so it it's uh, you know, it's one of those things where you want the game to continue, but you also never want a team to uh, you know, face something where it just becomes insurmountable. But, anything can happen in softball, and and they've got looks like a pinch hitter coming up. Uh, this looks like it's number 20 coming to bat. So, we've got number 20 in pinch hitting for McKee. >> [crying] >> So,
085McKee is the ninth batter, so it's a pinch hitter in for the ninth batter, then they have they're they're back at the top of the lineup. >> Correct. >> So, this is, you know, the exact position the Mustangs would want to be being down, trying to get themselves back into this game. Domestico wheels, and it's a pop up behind the backstop. No play possible. All right. So, this young player's last name is Wynn. She's Her name is Sammy Wynn. Sammy Wynn takes a domestical strike, so she's now got two strikes on her. The count is currently one and two. Nice pitch there [music] by Bella Verga. Fastball low, knee high. Okay. And the second out of the inning, a fastball kind of up.
