Hello my friends. Welcome to Calling All Kids. I'm your storyteller, Jennifer Temple. I'm so glad you're here with me today to hear some fun stories that I've chosen to read to you. So, get comfortable, maybe grab a stuffed animal, find a comfortable place, and let's enjoy some fun stories. You ready to get started? Let's go. Okay, our first one is about a buffalo. Have you ever seen a real buffalo? Well, this is called Buffalo Buffalo. Look at them. And it's written by Vess Callum. She's the author and the illustrator is Aaron Crab Cron, excuse me, Kron. And this is a story about a buffalo. And look at him. Does he look like a friendly buffalo to you? Look at his eyes. I think he looks a little angry on the cover here. Let's find out

about Buffalo. Buffalo. And a lot of rhyming and fun words in this book. I hope you enjoy it. Here we go. There once was a buffalo. A buffalo. And can you see right here? See the smoke? It looks like the buffalo is running away very fast. I wonder where he was going. Here he is. He doesn't look too happy here. Looks a little angry, doesn't he? A snuffle scruff. Surely old buffalo who was ever so snarly and gnarly and tough. I'm the buffalo fuffalo. I heave and I hoe and leave me alone because I've had enough. So, he's definitely not a very friendly, happy buffalo, is he? Let's find out why he's so upset and angry. One day when old fluff was especially miffed. Miffed means like he's angry upset about something. A hammy old

ram clumped up with the gift. I noticed you like to nap in the shade. So there's a So here's a big floppy wool hat that I made. Look at that nice hat he made for Buffalo. Ram. He mooded in a manner. So, tuffalo, you must go away. I must read Buffalo. I don't need your ramy old hammy old help. It makes me want to stammer and yammer and yelp. The ram slunk away with his warm woolly stuff. And old Mr. Buffalo snarled and snuffed. I'm the buffalo fluff. I heave and I hold. Leave me alone because I've had enough. Maybe you can help me say that next time the buffalo says that. Wonder why he's so angry. Look at him here. A prairie dog passed by. Mean, Mr. Aloff. Excuse me, sir. I don't mean

to sound goofily, but would you like to join me for flippies and funnels and romp and race in my tubular tunnels? Do you think Buffalo can fit in these tunnels that the prairie dog made? He could be a little tight. Silly old weasel, cried Buffalo Fluff. I can't play in your tunnels on account of my buffalo. Leave me in peace. Go back to your burrow. Let me stomp around while I frown and I furrow. You ready? Can you say it with me? I'm the buffalo fluff. I heave and I huff. Leave me alone because I've had enough. So, he's a very angry buffalo. And it looks like the other animals are trying to cheer him up or be friendly. Uhoh. who comes next. Then a squawky old crow perched on Fluff's horn. And Fluff looked

at him with a sneer and a scorn. "Hey there, old pal," said the crow with a smile. "Chitter and chatter and catch up for a He sounds like a friendly crow." No way, fluff huffed, his fur standing on end. I'm far too huffy to have time for friends. That's too bad, squawkked the man old crow. Because you seem like a guy I'd like to know. We really have to find out why is so angry. And just as Fluff Fluff reared up to shout, a dark and doomy cloud blocked the sun out. With a rumble and a grumble and a bangy loud block, the whole prairie and mountains were covered in dark. Storm's coming. Then with one final thundery blundery blop, the heaviest, humpiest cloud opened up and down came the rain with a splash and

a spluff right on the head of the old buffalo fluff. Look, looks like it's just raining on the buffalo. Now, what happens to your hair when it gets wet? Does it stay all fluffy? What happens? What happens to your dog when he gets wet? Let's find out what happens when a buffalo gets wet. Oh my goodness, look what happened. What happened to all his fur? Does he look scary now? Squawk, said the crow with a grin on his beak. Why? Buffalo fluffs. Just a peep squeak. Then Ram and Prairie Dog gathered to see that indeed Mr. Fluff was so very we. We can mean little. So doesn't he look very different than the way he did at the beginning of the story. Oh no. Does he look so scary now? Look, cried the ram. It's

old Mr. Fluff. So little and p all wet in the buff. Everyone got from the mice to the snakes, even the scaly old fish in the lakes. They're all like, "We look so different now." Bluff shouted out, "Don't look at me. I'm not little. I'm tough as can be." He shimmyed and shook to repuff his fluff. Then he snarled and gnarled and stomped with a hoof. Ready? Can you say what? I'm the buffalo fluff. I heave and I huffalo. Leave me alone because I've Stop. Stop, said the ram. You don't have to act tough. We like you just fine with out all your puff. He's right, said the prairie dog, a smile in her eyes. You're great how you are, no matter your size. Oh, aren't they kind friends? After buffalo wasn't too kind to

them, too friendly. I am sniff the buffalo who wasn't so fluff. I'm sorry for being so grumbly and tough. Without my fluff, I'm tiny, and misable. No, called the crow. You're huggly and snuggly kissable. Sneak. Crows give him a great big smack. A big kiss. Do you think this is going to change how Buffalo behaves? And all the creatures from the bats to the bugs covered old fluff with kisses and hugs. And that's how the story of Fluff ends with a happy old buffalo snuggling his friends. Looks like he has time for his friends now, doesn't he? Oh, I love how Buffalo's friends didn't give up on him. And I like how he turned into a friendly, happy buffalo. What do you think about Buffalo Buffalo? Isn't that a fun story? All right, we have

another fun story with rhyming words as well called Lizzy McTizzy and the busy dizzy day. A lot of rhyming words there. And it's written by Sarah Weekes. And it's illustrated by Lee Wildish. Look at Lizzy McTizzy. I love her beautiful red curly hair. Very fun. Let's find out what this busy dizzy day is all about. Lizzy McTizzy was has lost her shoe. She's late for the party, but what can she do? One blue shoe is one too few. To go to the party, she has to have two. You can't go out walking around with one shoe, right? So, she needs to find her shoe before she can get to the party. Where is her shoe? Is it under a chair? If you were a shoe, would you hide under there? Where is her shoe? Is

it up on the shelf? If you were a shoe, would you hide there yourself? Are you going to hide on the shelf of your shoe? How would a shoe get up that high? She'd have to put it there, right? She looks in the bubbles. She looks in the books. She looks in the plants that are hanging on hooks. She looks in the crooks, in the crannies and nooks. But there isn't a shoe in the places she looks. Where is her shoe? Under here? Under there? Could it be under some underwear? Where is her shoe? Over there. Over here? Could it be stuck in a chandelier? She peers in the pantry and moldy crust. She checks in the attic. Only dust. She has really lost her shoe. It's nowhere to be found. She opens the cooler

and ew, stinky cheese. She crawls in the doghouse and yikes, itchy fleas. She thought maybe the dog took it. She peaks in the mailbox and under the mat. She gets on her knees and peaks under the cat. Do you think the cat would be sitting on her shoe? You never know it. She peaks every place so she can think of and then she peaks in those places all over again. So she went and looked in all the different places and in checked it again in case she missed it. Look in the tool box. She looked in the bathroom. She looked in the cereal box. These are kind of silly places. In a teapot, in the trash can. in her goldfish bowl and in the cookie jar. Silly places. Lizzy is dizzy from racing around. There

isn't much time for her shoe to be found. The party is starting, but what can she do? She looked and she looked and she can't find her shoe. She didn't have to stay home because she only has one shoe to wear. Did it drop in the driveway and somehow get squashed or plop in the washer and somehow get washed? Think her shoes washing around there? Is it stuck in the chimney all covered with soot or running around on some other girl's foot? So, she's checking all her the girls to see if they're wearing her shoe. Lizzy McTizzy is totally beat. She's worn herself out from her head to her feet. She plop plumps up a pillow and flops on the couch. And that's when a lump makes her jump and say, "Sh, uh-oh. What do

you think?" Is that her shoe? What color did she say her shoe was? Is that the color we see here? Can you see it? Let's see if that's her shoe. Could it be? Is it true? Could that lump be a shoe? Shoot. It's a boot and it's not even blue. So now she has one blue shoe and one red boot. What would you do? So if So what if a boot doesn't go with a shoe? So what if a red doesn't go with a blue? Who cares if a pair is a mismatch mistake? As long as you get there in time for the birthday cake. So she wanted to get to the party. She and she has two thing two things on her feet, right? They may not match. Is that okay? Can she still

do that? It says, "Happy birthday." The party is swinging. The music is loud. The cake looks delicious. And Lizzy feels proud. Cuz Lizzy McTizzy knows one thing is true. Look, she made it there in time for the cake, didn't she? To go to the party, you have to be you. So, she's just being herself. She goes, "I don't care if I have different shoes on my feet. That's who I am. And my friends will accept me." Isn't that kind of a fun rhyming story? Lizzy McTizzy and the busy dizzy day. All right, I have another story for you today called Pig the Pug. Now, have you ever seen this character before? Pig is a dog and is the kind of dog that he is is a pug and there's a whole bunch of books about

Pig the Pug and he has all kinds of adventures and it's written by Aaron Blley and this story is about Pig the Pug and how he always wants to be the winner. Are you like that with your friends when you're playing games? Do you always have to win or are you okay with not winning? It's about having fun with your friends, isn't it? Well, let's see how Pug does playing games with his friends. And it looks like he has a medal here with a one on it. Maybe he came in first place. Isn't he a fun looking character? And I think it's interesting that the author chose the name Pig for the dog Pug. Pig came first. Here we go. Pig the pug winner. Here he is standing up on the podium here being the

first place winner. Hey was a pug and I'm sorry to say if he didn't come first it would ruin his day. Oh, he had to be the winner every time. Yes, Pig was a winner. He just had to win and nothing would stop him. or oh where to begin. He going to show you all the times that he had to win. Believe it or not, he was quite hard to beat. And the reason was simple. Yes, Pig was a cheat. Look at this. See him using his leg to hold his friend back so he can cross the finish line first. Is that being a good sport or a good friend? But if he did lose, he'd throw a pink fit. He'd scream, he'd cry, and he just wouldn't quit. He'd sobb and he'd sulk with

this quivering chin to you gave in and said to him, "Okay, you win." So, he's trying to be a good friend to make his make pig feel better and said, "All right, you can win." And then look what Pig does. But as soon as you said it, he'd clap and he'd stamp and he'd rub it in loudly that he was the champ. Haha, I won. I won. Is that being a good sport, a good friend? Pig really wanted to win. Trevor would say to him, "Let's just have fun." But Pig would reply, "It ain't fun till I've won." So they're playing hard here. And Pig wants to be the winner. So one night at supper, Pig shouted with glee, "Who can eat faster?" "I bet it's me." "Here they have their food. Who's going to

eat their food fastest?" "Trevor said shy. I don't want to race. But Pig had yelled, "Go!" and was stuffing his face. He doesn't choke. He wolf down his food. He gobbled his kibble. His face was a wash with biscuits and dribble. He chomped on three sausages, all of them whoppers. Then he munched through his doggy treats, nashing his choppers. He swallowed it all in a minute or less. But something went wrong. Do you know? Can you guess what do you think's going to happen? Think he might choke. Throw up. Oh my. Let's see what happens. Because he was busy stuffing his hole. Pig didn't notice. He swallowed his bowl. Oh no. Are we supposed to eat our bowl or our plates that our food is on? Doesn't get sick. What's going to happen? Lucky for

Pig, Trevor knew what to do. He squeezed out the bowl before Pig could turn blue or get sick, right? But Pig didn't thank him. He just said, "I win." So he was more worried about winning than almost choking on his bowl or thanking his friend for saving him. What kind of friend is that? Look at his eyes. Then the bowl bounced right back. So it hit the ceiling, came right back. Oh no. What do you think's going to happen? Is it gonna go back in pugs in pig's mouth and knock pig in the bin? Knocked him in the trash bin. Do you think that served him right for not being kind friend? These days it's different. I'm happy to say pig's not the winner each time that they play. He plays to have fun and

his tamper temper tantrums have ceased. Cease means to end. They've stopped. Yes, Trevor can win now. That's nice. He's letting his friend Trevor can win now. Well, sometimes at least. Can you see Pig here? He's playing the game, but it looks like he's hiding some cards here. So, is he cheating? Looks like pig still has some learning to do when he's playing games with his friends. I hope you can just have fun with your friends and play. And I hope you can be a good loser. Be a happy winner, but also be a good loser and just be happy for your friend if they won. So, don't forget you can find other books about Pig the Pug at the library when you go and maybe your parents or the librarian can help you find some

other books if you enjoyed this character. So, I hope you enjoyed some of these fun books today. They were rhyming books. Did you hear those words that kind of sound the same at the end? But I don't know which one did you like the best. Did you like Buffalo Fluffle or did you like Lizzy McTizzy and the Busy Dizzy Day or did you like Pig the Pug winner? All fun stories. So, don't forget to go to your library and get some fun books and keep reading. And I will look forward to seeing you next time on Calling All Kids for some fun stories. Thanks for joining me today. We'll see you next time. Bye-bye.
