001Please moment of silence from the bridge. >> I aliance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Everybody, please >> it here. >> Johnson >> here. Hey Johnson here, Mr. >> Yeah, he's abs before I get started. I want to make sure I give my att Mr. Fman. Thanks for being here. Keep talking executive session personnel matter student matter and up next we have a guest presentation so nothing. >> Yes. Thank you Mr. Ross. Um, we're going to go down to the podium for this. A pretty big deal. Uh, this even while she's down, I know this was supposed to happen last week, but something happened to one of the members. So, we couldn't finish
002out. That memo was had to take me out. He had the ambulance, but I'm okay. >> Yes, he is. >> Not doing this last week. >> And we are grateful. All right. So, good evening everyone. Um, I am going to begin um our presentation tonight um by recognizing our girls basketball team um for their tremendous season. And because they're all in the hallway, I'm going to do their certificates first and then uh I'm going to share my remarks and uh gratitude for the team and all those who supported them. So when I call the uh team members name, I'm going to ask that they will come in and Mr. Dean is helping and we're going to have them line up so that they can get their certificate and I will just share what the certificate
003says. Each certificate reads certificate of achievement. The following award is given to the particular player. The certificate is awarded for your achievement with the girls basketball team in winning the PIAA dis district district three championship for 2025. And so we are super excited for them. And we'll start with Devin Archer. Position you for a picture. Kyra Jackson, Desara Lee, London Lemon, Deni Lester, Ava London, JC Martin, Lyanna Morales, And we have Cassidy in the greeting now. Cassidy, come on in. All right. Get in line, please. We don't have the full team here, but every team member will have a certificate. Oh, so I'm gonna have all my coaches come in. Please come on in. Second. All right. So, now that everyone is in the room, I didn't want to share my remarks until um everyone
004was actually here to hear them. All right. So, and I am going to read this because I think that it is so important what they've accomplished. I want to make sure that everyone hears what this team has done this year. It is my honor to recognize an extraordinary group of student athletes whose dedication, resilience, and commitment to excellence have brought great pride to our entire school community. This year, our girls basketball team achieved something truly special, capturing the PIAA Division title for the first time in 45 years and advancing all the way to the Elite Eight. Did I get that right? The Elite 8. Okay, I'm learning these terms, but I knew it was a good thing. I knew it was a good thing. This accomplishment is not only a testament to their talent, but
005to their discipline, teamwork, and belief in one another. They have represented our district with integrity, and heart every step of the way. If you had a chance to attend any of their games, they fought hard. We would also like to recognize the outstanding leadership of head coach Duron Dickerson who was named coach of the year for both Midpin Capital Division and the Midpin Conference. >> Coach Dickerson, your leadership was clearly laugh is clearly left a lasting impact on this program and these young players. In addition, we want to extend um our sincere appreciation to the entire coaching staff. Whether you were paid or you just showed up as a volunteer, we appreciate you because we know behind every successful team is a great group of dedicated coaches who invest countless hours in preparation, mentorship, and
006support. Tonight, we are also proud to celebrate several student athletes for their individual achievements. Devin Archer was named all division first team member and all conference honorable mention. Is that the right one? Okay. JC Martin was named all division first team. Named to the all division first team and all conference second team. All conference is like everybody in the area. Is that correct? That's all the teams. That's a big deal. All right. Um all division first team and all conference. And then finally, Ava London was named to the all division first team. All conference first team in quad A all size. >> What is it? Is that our size? Okay, good. All quad A all state third team. Right. All right. I was in the glee club in school. I didn't. >> All right. So,
007we would also like to acknowledge um the families and supporters of these student athletes uh really your encouragement and we've seen you at the games too. So, your encouragement, sacrifice, and unwavering support whether in the stands, on the road, or behind the scenes play a critical role in making achievements like this possible. So to our student athletes, our coaches, our families and supporters, thank you for the pride you have brought to our district. Your success reflects hard work, perseverance, and what can be achieved when we commit to a shared goal. So we appreciate you. You can please give them another round of applause. >> Yes, you may stay in. This is 45 years in the making. Please. >> Thank you. At this time, I want to invite State Representative Justin Fleming for a presentation after
008which time we will have a group photo. So, Representative Fleming. >> Thank you so much, Dr. Willis. Congratulations to each and every one of you. I love. So, at this size, I wanted to be an athlete, but I was terrible. I played baseball and I was awful. Like the worst the worst baseball player here at Susuana. But, um, but I love how nonchal they're like, "Yeah, it's Monday night. You know, we're getting honored." But, um, what you have done is truly incredible and truly historic. And I think the nice thing about a championship team and and those who have been a part of it will um will understand you're bonded forever. You're bonded forever. There is only one PIAA uh you know 4A district 3 champion and you are it for this year for this
009season. And so you um and it's not done without a lot of hard work as as Dr. Willis said from your coaching staff, but I want to turn around and thank your parents. >> Yes. >> Because this is a journey that started long before this evening when you were playing >> little teeny tiny person basketball or shooting shooting in your driveway or shooting on the road, shooting in a you know, shooting on the street corner in a park or at the school. Um it it's many many hours and many hours of you know you on your own working hard when nobody's watching uh you going to practice your parents driving you to practice. So um you know obviously you are all to be incredibly um commended for your efforts because this is a big deal.
010Um I I went to school uh during the last state championship team and those memories still stay with me today and I wasn't even a player. I was just a student. So, you have given this community something to celebrate, an extraordinary thing to celebrate. So, um you'll look back on it and I think you'll be proud of it. But I just love how just chill you guys are right now. I just it's it's cracking me up. But I want to present uh this citation from the House of Representatives. Um and I'll just read a portion of it. The House of Representatives of Pennsylvania takes great pleasure in recognizing the outstanding achievements realized by the youth of this nation and in spirit of personal sacrifice, commitment to a common goal and unity of purpose. And whereas
011the Susuana Township High School girls basketball team is being honored upon capturing first place during the PIAA District 3 Class 4A girls basketball championship. And whereas to its great credit, the Susuana Township High School girls basketball team earned the district title by defeating Delone Catholic High School with a score of 36 to 29. It further distinguished itself by progressing to the quarterfinal round of the state championship and amassing a season record of 22 wins, which is five losses. And um it it lists the the coaching staff as well as the roster and the players in here. Um now therefore we want to acknowledge their investment in skill and effort in competing on a level which demands perfection and ex we extend best wishes for every future success and personal fulfillment. Congratulations to each and every
012one of you individually and collectively. This is a really really remarkable thing. Thank you for um on behalf of the community just thank you. Thank you for your hard work, your sacrifice and your incredible achievement. You'll be on that end girls. >> That way we don't have any. Y Mr. >> If the board stands behind them, can you get them to? >> No. >> Okay. Okay. So, you all want to stand behind them so that we'll have roles. >> That's what you want me to do. >> Yes. Oh, and L I'm sorry, Mr. Mr. Dean, come on up and have words while we're getting this picture, please. Hold on. Let me just say this. We were very fortunate to um secure our new athletic director. Nothing against Dr. Martin from years ago, but we are
013very fortunate to have Mr. Dean All right. So, we're very fortunate to have Mr. Dean here. >> Hang on one one second, Daniel. >> One second. >> Hold on. Sticking here. >> So, we want >> This is like a family reunion when you try to take the Christmas picture. >> All right. So, >> before we have Mr. Dean join the picture, we do want to give him an opportunity to have words because um I've seen the work that he does in supporting all of these players and all of our programs. So, I'm going to give him a chance to have some words before he joins us. >> Um I'll be brief here. I remember right before the Trinity game, right, we had the opportunity to sit down and talk. We literally talked about 45 years.
014So, um I applaud you guys. I think the special thing that I got to see that a lot of people don't get to see not only what you guys did but how you guys did it um with so much talent, so much personality. Um you guys stuck together. You didn't allow distractions, opinions, people from the outside uh to pull you guys apart. Um you guys always supported each other. Academically, we didn't have issues. Character-wise, there was never no issue. So, uh what you guys were did was special, but you know, the way you guys did it was just as special. So, once again, congratulations. And I will say this publicly, not to take from today. Um, but I'm excited for what's to come next year. I think we left something out there that we're more
015than capable. Um, so let's go get this again and let's go get what we did not we did not complete to go get. And once again, that's not to take for take away from what you guys did, but we got something else to go get. So congratulations again. Good. Look here. I'm going smile. Take a bunch. That way I get one wherever it All right. >> All right. You guys are good to go. >> We want to shake your hand. >> They want to shake. So you guys are going to stay. The school board's going to come around. Congratulate you. So just stay put. Although that >> was my next I think I think this No, you're right. >> The one who made the big eyes. >> We got two sinners. I thought that was
016yours. Is that not yours? I'm pretty sure Yes. >> Mr. Got one more. >> Well, that's going to be tough to follow, but here we are. I'm Ryan Evans. I'm the middle school principal. Um tonight in celebrating families, um I wanted to recognize a family who has been um with us for several years supporting in multiple capacities. If we need someone to bring in extra snacks, they're there. Um if we need someone to serve on the PTSO, multiple capacities, they're there. School parties, school dances, they're there. Um we need all the supports we can get in our community. Um, and uh, tonight I want to recognize the Nightly family. So, if you want to come on up. I can't say enough great things. Nor is currently serving as our treasurer of our PTSO and she
017puts in so many hours to make sure that everything goes well for our students. Um, and we like to recognize you all certificate. So the certificate reads uh celebrating family certificate of appreciation presented to the Nidinger family in recognition of your invaluable contributions to fostering a positive and supportive learning environment in our school community. Thank you so very much. This is your certificate and we're going to give you a limited edition blanket. >> These are only for our families who have been celebrated in the district. So >> use it proudly. Thank you. And I will say um we we enjoy all of our families that we celebrate. But when you have families that are still supporting at the middle school and high school level, it's really special. And so we're excited to be able to
018celebrate that here. >> You're welcome. Oh, which way? >> That way. Okay. Can I ask Mrs. Nyler is one of my she was one of my co-workers for years and years and she was carrying both of her babies. I can't even believe that they're already in high school. >> Do you see how much taller they are than me? 124. >> So, yeah. Have a good night. >> Get a good night's sleep. >> I do that. Have a good night. All right. So, good evening. Uh, excited this year to share our high school spotlight. We had uh which button is arrow. >> Yep. >> Slight changes. Obviously, I'm Dr. Archer. Um, excited to be in front of you guys today. With me, I have obviously the Saints, Miss Johnson. I have Sam uh who's a sen
019junior and we have Miss Johnson. Uh, Mr. Conchley was scheduled to be here, one of our teachers. He was here uh last meeting and could not be here tonight. So, wanted to have a little bit of quicker of agenda for what we're going to talk about. We're going to talk about obviously some of our academic achievements, some of our PBIS, some of our targeted interventions that we're uh excited to share, clubs and activities, our partnerships. Sam's going to give a a student testimonial. We're going to have a parent testimonial. We're going to talk about some of our upcoming events, and then we'll field any questions that you guys have. um wanted to start here that everything that we do aligns immediately with the core values. It's something that Dr. Willis has shared with us. I
020know some of uh the board members who was at some of our strategic planning during the hope meeting. It is our northstar. It's what kind of guides us. Um it allows us to make sure that we're making quality decisions day in and day out. And obviously we don't want to go rogue but the core values allows us to uh have a nice place to begin. Um so I'll begin quickly with just some information. So right now our school has 784 learners 9 through 12. I did not include in here the Mr. Evans always correct me. It's about 12 students that come in that are seventh and eighth graders. >> Um like >> 90 I know it was somewhere and we I know it changes but we also have some seventh and eighth graders that come
021up for some of our honors math and other areas. So we're excited about that also. So we uh the enrollment numbers are always up and down throughout the year. So we're excited about that. Definitely want to talk about our average daily attendance. Right now we are a little under the statewide average of 94.1. Uh we are coming in at a 90.33. If you look at it every year one of the challenging areas is usually that seniors as seniors are us. Um seniors are usually getting to the end of the line and we're usually always trying to find a way to keep them not just motivated but excited to keep continue to come in as they're looking at dual enrollment opportunities. A lot of kids are taking college visits. They're looking at different things. So, they
022have a tendency to pull the overall attendance rate down. But, we are excited. I know I keep pushing. If you ever come to the school in the morning, this morning I was standing outside with a jacket fussing at kids as they're walking through the door because we want to be able to get that statewide average of 94.1 and higher. Uh, we know this when students are in the building, we have a better chance of getting them ready for these targeted tests and different things and getting them to where they want to get to at the finish line. So, I wanted to put some behavior data. I'm excited to share this year that our behavior data has been down every single month. Um, it is showing a commitment that not only my admin team, but our
023behavior interventionists, um, our teachers, everybody is doing their part of just making sure we are supporting learners as they are going through. Um, you're going to hear us talk about, uh, MTSS and our PBIS. This year we had a lot of new initiatives intentionally at the high school because it gets difficult. But we have had a nice reduction in uh our overall numbers. So we're really excited to share what that looks like. Now we're going to knock on wood because the weather's getting ready to break. So we want to continue to have that training. But I think what's happening in our building just a high level of respect that we're able to talk to learners. There's a a level of consisting that has been here. The team has been here between me and my admin
024team. We've been here the last like four years. So I think now uh learners know what they expected. We are seeing a high level of of our our our upper classmen holding their their friends and their classmates accountable. So that's something that we're excited to share. Also um when we get to our academic achievements, I just want to highlight I know Dr. Martin was talking about this a little bit. Um in our winter keystone, we're going to talk about an initiative that we started this year, but we saw some uh dramatic changes in our winter keystone pass rate. Um, we wanted to highlight obviously in algebra we went from 7.4%. Uh, in the winter we went to 28.6. In the biology we went from 6.7 to 20%. And then in the lit we went from
0259.4 to 43.5. Um, we're really excited to really highlight that because I know over the last couple years we've been talking about a lot of growth. We've been having a lot of growth in a lot of areas, but Dr. Martin and his team has challenged us to move just not from growth but over to proficiency. and we've been trying some different initiatives that allowed us to see some of that um in in the winter. So, we're going to continue to kind of push that needle, but we're really excited to talk about some of our AP exam scores um because that's also an indicator that our our learners are doing well in the classes. So, I know you want to talk about that. >> Um good evening. My name is Jess. I'm one of the assistant
026principles at the high school. And for our advanced placement uh courses, we have several we have so many offerings. You can see the list there. And in addition to the advanced placement course offerings that we provide our students, we also have our college in the classroom for many of our math and science courses. So you'll see in the numbers there that you'll see more of the humanities based courses of English, you know, history um courses there. But then, you know, some of our students are also taking college level courses with Harrisburg University as well. Um, we're really proud of the work that our teachers are doing in our building. Not only are they growing the mark on our standardized state assessments, but they are also hitting the mark at the college level. So, our teachers
027are really phenomenal. It was important for us just to highlight that because when we get into our targeted intervention, you're going to hear us talk about and I know there's been a lot of talk about uh tier one, which is something that we've been talking about throughout the year. Just uh making sure we are having high level tier one conversations, not just in honors and academic and AP classes, but making sure we're hitting everybody across the board. So, we're making sure that we're increasing vocabulary, anchor charts, visuals, looking at more small groupoup instructions, and uh student centered engagement. Basically, we want to engage the learners while we have them for the eight hours so we can try to get them uh growing in different areas. So, this year we had a keystone group that actually
028started from our tier one in our leadership team. So, we had uh algebra one biology keystone uh literature intervention groups. We had them during advisory in the morning kind of changed some things within our schedule. I know we talked about that earlier in the year when we looked at some of the credit stuff, but what we saw is we took a data analysis. We looked at different things and we gave intervention to some of our learners that were right there. We had some learners that just basically didn't get across the finish line and then obviously you're seeing what the data looks like based on the inter interventions that we had and we're going to continue to find ways to do targeted interventions to get our learners across the finish line. So I would like to
029bring Miss Sings up. She's going to talk a little bit about our MTSS and our PBIS process. >> Yeah. So this year um we were able to host our very first honors breakfast um during marking period 1. um we were able to identify all of our learners for distinguished and first honors and we had them come down to the cafeteria and supply breakfast for them and it was just a great opportunity. I know um certain veteran teachers have talked about in past practice that we've had honors breakfast so that was something that our MTS team wanted to bring back. Um, we also hosted our first fall festival. Um, and I know maybe Sam can speak to that that our students that were identified for behavior um, and class grades were awarded to come down at
030the end of the day to take part in a fall festival and our PTSO actually came out and supported that. Um, and it was just a great event that a lot of our students that normally don't get to hang out with were able to come together and celebrate each other for their positive work. We're excited to talk about that. Last year we were tier two. This year, this week we're looking to become tier three. So, uh, hopefully the next time I come in front of you guys, we're able to talk about that at the high school level. There's not a lot of tier three schools that are recognized in the state. So, Susan is looking to become one of them. So, we're excited about that. And then the things that we are doing to celebrate
031learners, not just academically, but socially and emotionally as well. So, we're gonna I'm glad I'm going uh we have a lot of clubs and activities obviously that continue to grow year in and year out. I think we had two new clubs that uh were established this year. I think that we have two that's going to be coming before you guys soon. Um academic, social. The thing that I'm really excited about the clubs and activities are they're nine times out of 10 student led. They get it. They they think of something. They get excited about it. They find a teacher or adviser. They bring it to me. They pitch it. We try to do it like it's almost like a shark tank and talk about how it can be not just for now, but sustainable in
032the future. And we're really excited about what we have. I know one of the newest ones, uh, the Black Student Union has done some great things and I think they have a blood drive coming up. They're looking just to continue to build the culture within our community. Um, I know things are really good when our sports teams are doing well, but I'm really excited about how the clubs actually have a culture within the building as well. So, I just wanted to put some pictures on this, the hiking club, our best buddies club that comes in and works with some of our uh special ed learners. Um, just we always talk about our diversity across the board. Um, some of our field trips and different opportunities. The picture in the middle is the civics test that
033is uh happens throughout the year. Um, so we just basically have a lot of things that are happening. So, when we begin to talk about performing arts, um, one of the things we're excited to celebrate is it's not always just about the athletes. There are so many different things happening in our building through the arts and the music and some of our plays. We have countless uh uh learners participating in the county uh band, county chorus, the orchestra, the district regionals, and different things of that nature. So, we're also excited to share what that looks like. So, I think we have our spring events coming up. So, if you guys are interested in that, I know uh they're always excited to have people come in and support them, but we're excited just to continue to
034share that. I think we have a holistic thing happening in the building that literally every building and every every learner in our building has something to do if they have an interest and if they don't, we're actually encouraging them to try different things every year. This was our play. Um actually was really good this year. So, um, we're excited because we have some different initiatives that continue to build that part of our, uh, school and I think it's just exciting just to see how that happens. I know some of our learners had an opportunity this year to participate in, um, a commercial. Um, they were directly selected from this and some of them actually were paid. It was an opportunity that came um through a relationship that I had in the community and some of
035our learners got a chance to participate in the college board commercial and we were able to pull students directly from our program here. Um I know some of these the picture on the right is from our our what is it? >> Senior the senior dress up which is one of the craziest events because I come from a school that didn't have it but it is a huge event in the fall. Everybody dresses up. It's one of my highlights. that we have to some of our learners with the Pennsylvania Renaissance Fair also obviously and we talked about some things with the girls basketball team but we also had uh one of our swimmers qualify in the states this year um we did some great things in different places I know we have multiple teams also have
036sportsmanship awards so while we are winning on the field and on the court it's it's more important to talk about the winning that we are doing with just the character of the learners and I think as often times I get a chance to go in the community as a former a coach and it's amazing to hear how they talk about our student athletes just as people. So, the fact that we're winning on the court is great, but winning off the court is equally as important. So, we have some partnerships that we talk about. Uh uh we have uh Big Brothers Big Sisters. We have Guide right that we talk about. We're really really excited about that because it gives us opportunities to extend beyond just the classroom and it gives real world opportunity for our
037learners to get out and actually do the work. Um I think uh the guy right went out on a field trip today. It's amazing um some of the events that come. They're pulling up in big old nice old uh buses and taking them different places, but it's exciting to be able to share some of those pictures when they go out on college visits and different things of that nature. So turn it over to Sam. I don't know what he's going to say, by the way. So it's a little scary. >> Uh good evening everybody. My name is Samuel Lu. I'm from Nigeria, but moving here as a freshman coming from a whole different school. Like, I didn't really know what to expect because the environment, I didn't know what the diversity was going to be
038like. But after the first week, I realized that there was a lot more people that look like me, just like me, like acted almost just like me. So, it was it made it a lot easier to communicate and just be able to expand myself and just let people get to know who I am. So coming to Township has been like a great place to just be able to grow and learn different things like joining Best Buddies Club which I younger me would not think I would like to join. But joining it was a really great experience because not only did I get to learn more about others but also got to learn more about myself, see what my interests are kind of like and what my future would be like and communicate it and stuff.
039Uh, so it's just the challenges I face here is just being able to get out of my comfort zone and just get to know other people. But being given the opportunities to able to join different clubs and just go to different places, especially joining the basketball team and just travel out and compete and yeah, just be able to make a name for myself. So Dr. The archer has given me an opportunity to be able to come here and speak and talk about Susan Township obviously, but yeah, it's just a really great place to come. Susan has been one of the best places to get to grow as a young man and just be able to do different things in my life and then be able to step out my comfort zone and just be myself
040and the different clubs have actually been pretty fun getting to travel and just I want to experience different things and just yeah be myself. That's all. Thank you. Right. >> Thank you. Yes. We we work on this in the building. I said we can go to time and just ask them to come to them. So um I definitely wanted to share we I know uh Dr. Willis has talked about our Wales international exchange but Sam was also part of that program. Um and he provided a unique experience because he is obviously uh come from Nigeria but he's also new to Suscoana as far as like what when he came as a freshman. Correct. So it gave a unique experience to have shared what it was like to be new here, a part of the community
041and now one of the leaders in our community. So I want to thank you for coming. So we also have Miss Johnson. She's a parent of two learners. Um I put in the class of 28 because I had to change it. So it is incorrect. She is a of the class of 27. So please >> no script. We're going off script here. So, I'm Allison Johnson and I have twin girls who are juniors at Sescuana. And it's interesting what was here tonight. I didn't know it was going to be here tonight, but when before they were of school age, it was very important for me to find a diverse culture because they're biracial and a full day kindergarten cuz I was a stay-at-home mom and I needed them to be in full day kindergarten. So,
042um I think at the time I I think they were one of the first years that you did full day kindergarten. I'm not sure. It was closed. But anyway, immediately I was super impressed with the quality of teachers and educations that I met. Like even at kindergarten the open house or whatever we had, I just felt from the get that they were just going to be they were tenured. They just I don't know. I just got a really good vibe about it. And then my daughters were intellectual. I actually, one of them is has a gifted IEP. And I just think educationally they have really been set up. They take advantage of the AP courses, the honor courses. They started dual enrollment at hack this year. Um they're in the National Honor Society, Key Club,
043all that. And they do sports as well. So I just think that Susan has done a really good job of having amazing teachers to get my kids ready for whatever comes beyond graduation, college, and all of that. Um, I also did want to speak quickly. I think Dr. Willis, you do an amazing job running this district and the admin staff that you have following you is amazing. Um, it's funny that the sports team was here because my kids were in sports. So, I was on the PTO, I was on booster clubs, behind the concession stand doing security, um, all the things since they've been involved. And I think it's very cool to go to any school event or sporting event and see so much of the board admin, teachers, staff all there because I do
044think it gives this unified presence. Um, we travel well as a sports teams. I mean, we took up more space than some of the home teams when they when the girls were playing basketball. But it's just a very cool thing to go out and look around and see so much of the admin staff teachers there supporting the kids because the kids feel that and my kids have always felt very at home at Sesuana. And to see them change through the years as they go from school to school um how their personalities develop and they have enormous personalities. um and just to see how they interact with people as they get older and with the teachers that they've had. So, we've had an amazing experience here. I'm so glad we chose to come here um 16
045years ago, I guess, or whatever it was. And I can't say enough about it. >> Uh thank you. So, some of the upcoming events, we talked about the tier three welcome coming farm this year is night on the bayou on May 9th. So, if you want to come and see some great things and some great outfits, come to that. Um, our academic athletics awards is coming up as we begin the end of year, we're going to do our senior uh, I'm sorry, not our senior, but our carnival that we do at the end of the year. That's an event that Suha, she makes sure it's always organized and that the students actually take the lead there and we actually support them. Then obviously graduation uh, on June 4th. So, I know you guys are always
046come out and support that. So, that's our upcoming events. I will take a moment to field any questions if you have any. Thank you. >> See one. Anybody else? >> Anybody else? >> I say I see one >> just wanted to know about how many honor students have we had talked about the honors breakfast. I was just wondering how many we had in the high school >> off I 400. >> 400. Excellent. Thank you. >> Any other questions? >> Thank you. Did a great job. >> Thank you. >> I'm sorry. >> Waver participation. >> What is w participation? >> I'm need to academic achievements um meeting annual academic growth expectations. So, under the science waiver, um, under academic academic growth score and statewide average growth score, it is waver participation. I don't know what that
047means. >> Oh, that's because of the steel standards. >> What? >> Still standards that >> there's going to be a change moving forward. >> Go to where the gray is. Yes, the third column. So I wait for participation. I didn't know what that meant. >> So the test is actually changing and we're going to be moving to like completely different standards as we move forward. So >> So they are waiting. Yes. >> Yes. >> You guys are grading that for now. Correct. >> Thank you. Thank you. >> Good evening. My name is Jeffrey Mack and I am your community partner liaison and I am here to give you a brief update of some of the things we've accomplished as of late. This will be my quick my brief agenda. We'll talk about the partnerships, our
048activities. We'll have a couple student testimonies, some thank yous, and I will answer any questions that you may have. >> Why are you doing that bad? That's why I don't take cap on a new thing. >> You'll never give me a break till you good. >> All right. Anybody have any questions? >> Oh. >> All right. We've developed and continue to develop a robust list of community partners. We've developed over 40 community partners. Um this is the list. I'll give you a second to take a look at the list and I'll touch on a couple of them. Um the Rejune Wellness Center, we have had some students work there. The benefit that they benefit that they get from that is they're allowed to use the services. Um we have cap fraternity incorporated. We do still
049do the mentoring program every second and fourth Saturday. We did do a trip to Fort Indiantown Gap today. Um, we had a nice long trip from 8:00 a.m. We got back about 5:30. And we also took a trip to Miss Hatcher's uh alma mater of Lincoln University for an open house last Saturday. >> As you see, um, here's the list continued. um House of Representatives, uh Representative Justin Fleming. Um we are aiming to set um our students up to shadow him or to become page for a day down at the capitol. We'll be setting up a meeting for that. Um and at the bottom you'll see we have junior achievement and we are starting to uh implement their programming into our schools on financial literacy and careers. Here is a list of the colleges that
050come in and do presentations uh throughout the school year. Um this is set up through our counseling um department. Um our aim is to get early acceptances next year um when they come in. The last one you see is Emerge Education. We were working with Emerge Education on their dental assisting program. Um they have a a free program uh that is worth $4,000 and your Y your Nelli Ruiz is her recipient and she will speak to to that in a few. Our activities, we've had approximately 25 plus activities. Um the number of students that have participated, 250 plus students have participated um in our activities. And here's a list of some of our activities that you can take a look at and I will touch on in the next couple of slides. We had a
051book donation from Miss Managal who is um who supervises the upward program at the University of Delaware. And these are some of the books that she uses with her students um as they prepare for college. Um, she's also volunteered to also discuss these books if our students would would like to. Chick-fil-A career readiness workshops. Chick-fil-A came in and did two um two session workshops with our students which cover soft skills, resume writing, and job interview skills. Uh, we've taken our seventh and eighth grade um classes to STEM labs at Penn State Harrisburg. Two in the fall, two in the spring. Um, and we're going to continue, excuse me, with that relationship into next year. We took our ninth graders to discovering engineering day at Penn State Harrisburg. This is Miss Diamond. Diamond wants to be
052a a tattoo artist. Um, I was able to get tattoo supplies uh donate a tattoo supply donations from Mr. Grinwith who happens to be a member of cap alphasai to um Mr. Ross. So he purchased the he purchase the gun needles, the ink, the uh paper and the skin that she can um uh tattoo on to start honing her craft. Um we had a read across America event with Mrs. P Mrs. Pennsylvania. She came in and read to two of our uh classrooms at Slack, took our students to UPMC Shady Side School of Nursing. Those students interested in the nursing uh career. We had Lucent Films come in and do a presentation on filmm 101 for our students who are looking for a career in film making. Um we have uh we have a partnership
053with Hacks Trade School uh dual enrollment program. We have currently have two students participating in Hack Trade School um currently. Um and there will be some more information I'm sure Dr. Martin will present at a later date about our relationship with Hack and bringing um professors in student testimonies. I have one of our phenomenal students, Miss Yanelli Ruiz, to give a personal testimony. I also have four or five written testimonies that I can give you to peruse at your own leisure. >> Good evening, members of the board. My name is Yunelli Ruez and I'm here to share how the work of our community partner liaison Mr. Jeffrey Mack has really impacted my career planning and how he just doesn't uh plan field trips or social events but also impacts students for when they don't may
054not have that opportunity to do so. He enables us to be able to go to these colleges to be able to uh participate in these events. So, for the UPMC partnership, we while they came in and a group of us were able to sit down and talk and they let us know about the 16-month curriculum and credit requirement. If I went to Google and I searched up um what was the partnership with UPMC, I wouldn't have gotten this information. So apparently if we were to go to Shady Side School of Nursing and we make a contract with UPMC later in the day that tuition breakdown which is the four 42,985 tuition breakdown were decrease profoundly. And for first generation students and students who don't really know how the educa education system works like me, that
055really helps us out and helps us get information that we wouldn't be able to get or we wouldn't be able to understand. But even more impactful for me personally was the connection to the parks and recreation department. So some people from the parks and recreation department came into the school and they talked to us about what the career was. I feel like a lot of people don't know what it is and at first I thought it was just like about parks but it's more about the environment and it's basically a career that involves public spaces and community programs that promote fitness and fun. They organize events like summer camps and sports leagues and I feel like that really helps a community especially those who aren't like who don't have the that opportunity to do to
056do those stuff. I feel like it helps them very well. So without Mr. max coordination, I wouldn't have gotten in contact with Heavenly Smith, which she's a program events and a manager in parks and wrecks. She basically offered me I was able to take the initiative and I was offered a volunteer opportunity for the Shamrock Shuffle, which is like a community run to promote community health and raise money for Lucer Charity programs. So, it's like building more trees, building more parks for the kids for this generation. And so the next generation also has those parks. And it's especially for underrepresented communities who may not have all those stuff, people who don't have parks available for them for the uh their children, which I feel like was very important. And I was also we also did
057a York College field trip. And I feel like for first generation students, they wouldn't have been able to go to York College or other colleges because their parents don't have the time, the money, or the patience to drive their children to places because they just can't. They're not able to. And I feel like this really helped me. I was a able to get in contact with and network with a couple professors, doctors, and with that I was offered a research opportunity. And this doctor, he basically researches stage four cancer, which is like one of the hardest cancer. And even though I was offered like fundamental tasks since I'm still in high school, a lot of high school students aren't offered this. They don't know all this stuff cuz all these research opportunities, they mostly go
058to like university students, people who already graduated, but at 17, I'll be able to do all this research. And even though I'm not actually the one doing the research, but I'm still in that room. And I feel like that's one step further in my goal to become a researcher, to become um a dentist, to be able to like actually solve problems instead of just like sitting at home all day. And then to mention with what Mr. Archer said, I was in Big Brother's Big Sister in the convention. It was around 300 people, which was very nerve-wracking, but I really learned a lot. And we did a couple workshops on leadership, and that really helped me. I was also on the commercial college board and we also did a lot of stuff that involved leadership and
059that also helped me. And then for the emerge education I was able to well my dream is to become a dental uh a dentist and now I'm able to become a dental assistant at 17 years old. And without Mr. Mac I wouldn't have known about the opportunity. I wouldn't like I've been to Google. I've been researching and doing all that stuff, but I wouldn't have found out about that. And instead of paying $4,000 that my parents cannot afford, I was able to become a dental assistant for free at 17. And then when I graduate high school, go to undergrad, go to dental school, I'll have that in my background. And I'll be able to talk about my experiences, my sorry, my experiences with that. So then I want to in closing I want to emphasize
060that these programs are well planned and essential to every school here at SEC High School. Mr. Max's work ensures that when we graduate we weren't just leaving with a diploma. We are leaving with the plan a professional network and knowledge and confidence to pursue our intended majors. Whether it's to become a doctor, whether it's to become a researcher or a nurse or somebody in parks and wreck. Thank you for supporting these initiatives that connect us to our community's future. >> Name again. >> Danelli voice. I O N E L Y. My eye looks like an L. Y O N >> I O N. >> I O E L Y. >> E L Y. R UI >> I just want to tell you miss that you look so professional and so prepare prepared and ready for
061the world. It's no wonder that already at 17 you are a dental assistant. I have no doubt that you will be super successful as a researcher. So congratulations to you and all that you've done to represent yourself, your family and Susan Township School District very well. Thank you. >> Thank you. Oh, we have one more question. Get out of here. >> No, I can stay here all day. >> Okay. >> Are you playing school? >> I think so. But then when I go to dental school, I feel like I'll make a more profound relationship with my professors and then I'll start doing research with them instead. programs and students health and I would love to get you in contact with that program they do like your weekong intense training session and they either get it's
062all expense paid you just type in go to either Puerto Rico um New Orleans or San Diego depend on your research if you cancer, they've done um aging several they've changed their topic at their branch change their program just if research is something that you're interested in and they do undergrad and graduate students to come in and do research for what you also paid and pipe then it's really great program to learn to make contacts to you and bring in professors from all over the country and the world to teach these to teach and then you have a wet lab to go along with what you're being taught in the in the lecture. >> Yeah, I'm interested. >> Okay. Yeah. you if I didn't get your your your email, I'll send you the information. >>
063Um I just using >> Okay. >> is one of our stars. Thank yous. Um, this is not a one-man show, nor has it ever supposed to have been. Um, but these people have helped and all of these student all of these people listed are help with the success of our learners. The admin of all four of our schools, the entire counseling department over at the high school, the entire secretarial staff at the high school for their daily support. uh Miss Loin, she's doing an amazing job getting um Junior Achievement up and running. We're started started last week with our second graders. Um our trip chaperoons um at the high school, Miss Rosado, uh Mr. Webb, Miss um Mr. Rosenberry. Um at the middle school, Miss Connley has been outstanding help. Um Miss Meik, Mr. Sheridan,
064uh Miss Long Green, and Miss Bats. Um, I definitely cannot forget Miss Cooper and transportation or nurse Halford. Um, their coordination answering my many questions has made sure that our trips have been smooth and the Dr. Martin who continue to support every activity that we have >> questions. Y'all see it over here? Oh, got one over here. >> Yes. >> Yeah. Um, I just want to say thank you to you. Um, I just that you left out of your presentation was the commitment that you have to the uh development of even when they u move on from the high school. um you you know people I mean people that know you know u the work that you do but I think for the folks that that may not be as familiar I mean in addition
065to guy right um I mean the testimonials are out there from all of the all of the young adults that you u have really mentored and just stewarded uh through life. So, I you know, I can't thank you enough uh for just being available to all of these folks and to the to the families of these folks who are trying to figure it out. Thank you. >> Thank you very much. Thank you very much. >> I'll just reiterate what um Mr. Johnson said and just how many community partnerships I think has probably doubled since your involvement and since you uh going on to this expanded role and your commitment to our students and to our greater Harrisburg community uh youth and young people for decades is is so commendable and admirable. Thank you so much
066for all that you do. You're an asset to our district and we're really glad to get you. Thank you. Uh, I just want to say thank you. Fantastic job. And if that young lady represent the rest of your student, you're doing a really fantastic job. >> Thank you. So, keep the good work up. Appreciate you. Go. >> I knew Jack was coming. I knew Jack was coming. >> Danny said thank you. Thank you very much. It's a pleasure. >> Is every second >> every second and fourth Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 11 a.m. >> And it's open to all. >> It's open to all students. We have roughly roughly 30 students in there. Uh it fluctuates due to students if they're playing sports or if they're working. Um along those lines. We have a girls
067program too. Actually in capes has a boys program. We have the only girls program here at Susuana Township in the entire region, probably entire fraternity. And we work with Sigma Gamory to incorporate the good evening every >> legislation update. Uh, no reports at this time. >> Ground student rep. >> Uh, good evening all. Um this is our 420 presentation for students student school board representatives. Starting off with um starting off with STMS to celebrate the conclusion of marking period 3. STMS hosted a schoolwide sore day. Students participated in a variety of engaging activities throughout the building which encouraged collaboration, creativity, and a strong sense of community. These activities also reinforced the schoolwide expectations and helped build a positive school culture. Sorry, I never used this before. Um, as a part of our sore day, STFs
068held a grade level grade level assemblies to celebrate student success. These assemblies recognize the academic achievement, personal growth, and positive behavior. They also provided an opportunity to highlight student leadership and encourage students to continue setting and achieving goals. STMS also hosted a schoolwide assembly featuring our the band, choir, and orchestra programs. Students performed and demonstrated their musical skills, showcasing their hard work and dedication. This event helped raise awareness of our fine arts programs and encouraged other students to get involved. All right. And next for Sarah Lindammouth. Slack hosted a kindergarten workshop with United Way where families learned about registration and expectations. Students participated in activities and received school supplies. Um staff also participated in a full day of professional learning focused on improving instruction and student outcomes using 195 literacy ecosystem. Slack educator educators also
069engage in wellness activities and begin planning professional development for next school year with fun activities like yoga, cookie decorating, and gratitude writing. I just want to hit on some things that are happening at the high school as well. We don't have a slide for it. There are spring concerts coming up. I don't have the exact date for those, but you will be able to find them on the website. So, if you can please show up for our students, we would appreciate it. Um, the Susan Township Carnival is happening June 3rd. There will be food trucks. Teachers are planning games, bouncy houses, things of that nature. We would love if you guys were to show up, support our students, support the food trucks that are coming as well. That all goes back to the students and
070that goes into prom and everything that student government plans. And I think that's all we have for all that we have. Thank you so much. >> Thank you guys. Township Alumni Association. >> Good evening everyone. >> It's been a while. >> I was waiting for that. Um, well, pink out. a little bit late with that, but we wanted to get everybody together and uh make some presentations. But Reese Hammaker, who was our chair, fell ill right before the meeting, but he was able to send me a message. And what I'd like to do is have Harry Lawrence, Hannah Harvey, their student reps. And then Ken Smeltz from Vicky's Foundation, and Bob Urban from Pink Vote come on up and I'll read Reese's message and didn't do an apology. So re states tonight on behalf of
071our students, staff, and our community, we're proud to present these donations raised to our pink out event in 2025. This effort reflects not just school spirit, but our comm community shared commitment to standing with those affected by breast cancer. We hope these contributions to Vicky's Angel Foundation and Pink Hands of Hope help to make meaningful diff difference in raising awareness and supporting our community. What he forgot to do was give me the checks or was unable to give me the checks. So, I will circle back, make sure you guys all get your checks, but maybe we can do a quick photo with the students shaking your hands. How's that? >> Okay, sounds good to me. >> I'll make sure they hand deliver them or have do that. I'll make sure you guys get checks. >>
072Okay. so I can picture. >> I would do that. Okay. Sorry. >> Now I Oh, I >> He always elbows me out of the way. >> So, I found Jesse's football pitcher. I found it, Jesse. >> This is high school. Old high school picture. >> It's with uh Yeah. Can you put that up on the >> It's It's with George Chomp. George George Shamp Jim Dler and Mickey Minik uh Jesse Jan White and Buster Ray. I won't show it to him. You want me to send it to you? I can send it to you. >> Yep. J White Nik. >> Well, see, they don't they don't know all the things I do. Yeah. See, Jesse and I went to school. Don Harris >> and I get done reading, but I I appreciate and Mickey says,
073"Thank you. I appreciate 87 years old." I mean, you know, I'm not the man I used to be. And neither is he, but he's doing well. He goes to work every day. >> Well, you and I the same age. You're young. >> I'm about young. I don't know. I'm 77. You're >> But anyhow, Nikki is a But Vic Angel Foundation through efforts like this and your kids have supported us. I think it's like you have done a tremendous job and there are a lot of new kids and you've seen me before. I know that. Yes. >> But we've been here. But but anyhow, >> um we've raised $6 million in 23 years. >> And we we help families fighting cancer. Uh we don't pay medical bills, but we pay insurance so they don't lose. We
074pay house payments. We pay car payments. We do all kinds of things. Uh we have a a board and uh you know, we're we're putting out I think around 40 or $50,000 a month just helping families in in nine counties in the Harrisburg area. So it's all good. We thank you for everything. We thank your young young adults for everything and wish you all well. >> Okay. >> Thanks. >> I'm sorry though came in last year. >> Yeah, we won't tell this year. >> Okay. >> Yeah, we'll tell you. >> No, they're going to see me. See, >> it's about you now. I'm just kidding. No, we have a good time. We have a good class. Thanks. >> So, the second thing I want to talk about, and it's something I've talked about before a
075while back, probably what years ago, I guess, right, was a hall of fame. Um, we do not have one. So, I'm happy to announce today that start we're accepting nominations for our inaugural class of school district hall of fame. I gave you the announcement which is the large package. We won't go through it all but I'll do a couple highlights. Then also there's a sponsorship package as well. But first before going through some of the highlights I want to thank Dr. Willis, Dr. Martin for all the support making this happen. Um you can't do it alone and I'm glad to be partnered with um the school district and having those two on on board. Um so we've modeled it after the National Federation of High Schools and what you will notice is that there are
076seven pillars. It is not just athletics. Um if you look at Susan Township um it is there was broad um excellence across every area that you can look at whether it's the f the gentleman who was on the first face uh transplant team has several patents um where or it's our state basketball teams and girls and boys and track starting in 1948 with if you know the pen relays the championship for America is huge and We we wanted that back in 1948 in the model relay. So between sports and so it's the arts, athletics, business, you look at business, Dr. Willis mentioned a couple and Mr. Mack did as well. You look at people like the Kuster family who was the impetus for the Hannah Foundation and made the first seed money for that organization
077to to for their kickoff. You look at Bony Dwood who does a lot for the school district who was instrumental in the concession stand. Um and Paul Williams for AP Williams who did a lot of the background work to even get it started. So we it's everywhere that you look at. Um so education you look at government you talk Justin was here to tonight um and you look at Su Helm Jeff Pakola there's a list of people um and I didn't mention my brother but yes 10 to four as well and and science and then community service. So, um, everything's on the alumni association website. It's pretty easy to find sts alumni association.com, but it's all in the package, but anybody can hear my voice and go look now every and it's under under Hall
078of Fame. You'll see all the documents that you have and and the sponsorship form as well. Um, I'm not going to go through the criteria. You can read it. One, you got to be an alumni, but it's also important to remember that it could be administrator or staff. We've had some excellent superintendent have one now. Um there are staff folks that have been here for a while or were a while that um deserve recognition, but it's up to the community to make those nominations. Um what we decided was that there's a nomination and they achieves achieve state or national or international type recognition, we're going to put them right in. There's no debate on putting into the Hall of Fame. Uh, can we? >> Yes. >> Can you remind us of which sport has won
079the most titles? >> I'm proud to say it's track and field. >> If you look at anything from from um Yeah, it's track and field. >> How about district? >> Um, I look at the state level, but districts, I'd have to look at that one. So I l >> So how many district camps you think >> from track? Um well, you look at one person um um for his the guy's name now, but he has seven of his own. Um and then um his brother had two. So I have two. >> I'm not sure that I share this multiple times. I want to make sure he has the opportunity to share. Track and field has won the most titles of all the sports in this district. >> Correct. >> Yes. >> Correct. >> I didn't
080mean to throw mine in there, but yeah, I do have to. Um, and then one, I want to thank the committee on the last page. You can see who they are. I want to just say their names out loud. Susan Anthony, Ron Bram, John Fabian, John France, Coach Heaton, and Dwayne MacArthur, CJ Skinder. CJ Skinder is kind of unique because he has a committee. >> There was a committee and then Susan Gordon will come in a little bit later, but CJ Skinder um was so good at what he did. He was a professor at Duke and North Carolina. They shared him. CJ Scander. So, he played basketball number 44 back in the 60s. Um so, I want to thank them for all their work because it's a lot of work to make this happen. make
081sure you have all the right things in place because I would tell you if you fall on your face out the gate, it's going to be hard to kind of recover. Um, so we were very meticulous and how we laid everything out. Um, but really, as I've mentioned, it now it's up to the community and folks to make nominees. We have a list already because I just keep a list of people for certain things. Um, so we have a rough idea that this first class is going to be quite large. So, what we're going to do is we're going to hold it thanks to the Dr. Willis team and do like the senior award night in the auditorium and then move to the cafeteria for the actual induction ceremony. It's homecoming weekend. Recognize homecoming dances
082that evening. So, we'll do the induction ceremony 1 or 2 o'clock in the afternoon to be out of the way. Um, but yes, so the fun part starts when the nominees start coming in. So, I'm excited for it. Um, any other questions or comments? >> I ask. Yes, sir. >> The community can nominate. You don't have to. >> You can self-nominate if you like, but the community, anybody can nominate someone that falls into the criteria. >> Okay. >> So, now how far are you going back? >> From the dawn from the dawn of time. So that's why it's going to be big in the beginning because we I mean you're talking about 115 years of history or longer that we have a lot of people that really deserve the recognition to be in the hall.
083So I I imagine the first guy is going to be probably 100 people. You if you look at just basketball, so you had two girls, two boys, how many on a team? So that's a good bet. Um so um yeah, I'm excited. Do you nominate the whole team or do you nominate the outstanding play? >> Nominate the team. And if they're a team that won a state championship, you nominate the team or whatever they you think what they've done, but nominate the team. So you figure what the girls was 79 and 81 or wherever that was and the boys were I get the dates wrong but um yeah nominate the whole team and we already anticipate they're already >> have a talk with basketball you got all state but the team didn't win the state
084title >> didn't nominate the individual >> yeah yeah you look at people like Stacy Dean right who's in the even Brian But Stacy team at some point individual as well. I mean, you look at over 2,000 points. She's in the Capital Region Hall of Fame. So, people like that you would >> at some point want to see in there as individuals, but initially I expect they'll all be on the team. >> Okay. Any other questions? Thank you. Appreciate it. >> So, this is this is the first class is going to be 2027. >> No, 2026. We're gonna do it homecoming weekend. Yep. So, we have you have until June 30th to all your nominees in and then we're gonna make if they're already a want to state something or state level, we're going to put
085them in and we're going to see how many rolls out to. I'm anticipating about 100 and then we're going to have the induction ceremony on that Saturday, right? I think it's October 9th. >> No, that's right. You say I got to be graduated 10 years. >> The alumni have to be a graduate. Yeah. So you figure some of those older teams, whoever asked that question would definitely like the championship of America relay team in 1948, they've been out for more than 10 be. >> Right. Right. Okay. Thank you. Appreciate it. >> Have to be out of school 10 years. >> Yes. That's Yes. >> Anybody I'm trying to think of her name. A student that went to Harvard. I um >> uh uh law review. >> Yes. And I think that's the >> I think
086it's been 10 years. >> I was here when she was here. >> Well, we can look but nominator then let us figure it out. >> You know what I mean? So, and then I don't want people to be surprised if somebody didn't make it because we're not going to throw them out of the pool. They just go into the pool for next year. and maybe >> there's an article on the wall. >> So, and and that even if they don't make it initially, new information, they may do something else that's really like over the top and then but we we don't want to just move people be like the baseball hall of fame. We'll keep going through the review process and and and seeing if they make it at that point. So, good question. >>
087Thanks. >> That was going to be it. Do you hold them in Q or do they have to be renominated? >> Right. We hold them in Q but if there's new information to share we would ask people to share that new information. >> Okay. Thank you very much. >> Thank you sir. >> No nothing from the foundation. >> Oh yeah. Nothing from the foundation. Sorry college. Nothing. Tax collection. Nothing. D county technical school. Steve. You got some stuff? N >> I do not have a report. All right. Uh, Cavalary meeting unit. >> Oh, yes. I attended the meeting on March 26. We are currently in the process of voting for members across the board which you all participated in this evening and I appreciate your support. And uh, that's all. That's it. >> That's pretty
088much what we're doing right now. of the board of commissions. Dr. Willis, you ready? >> Yes. And if I may have the clicker, please. >> Thank you, sir. Very briefly, we want to thank our community members for rounding up at the register. Whenever you go to the Giant on Linglestown Road and they ask you at the end of um your after you finish scanning your items, do you want to round up since it feeds local school students? They are talking about our students. And so all of the rounding up uh allowed Giant Foods to give us $12,21.91. So we are very very >> That's a big round up. And um this has only been since October. So when you go to Giant and they have this at the end of your transaction, please know that
089it is going to feed our students and it does make a difference. I wanted to acknowledge um that our uh learners as well as some of our administrators and one of our teachers, Mr. Eric Brooks, we attended uh advocacy day uh at the state capital on April the 15th. Uh we had an opportunity to sit students had an opportunity to sit with Senator Patty Kim as well as state representative um uh Justin Fleming. Uh we had remarks at the press conference and it was a day where the school district could advocate for the uh total funding of the um student teacher stipen that has been offered in two of the state budgets. Uh they're looking to include it in the next state budget and they're also considering an increase. And also this is to uh
090support grow your own programs like our cadet teaching program. There's funding that has also been included in the state budget for those programs. And so we're again advocating for some of those additional funds as the district was awarded a $236,000 grant from the Department of Labor and Industry. If you all remember, they came to present that to us. And so we had an opportunity to have our children engaged civically and it was a a great day, I believe. So Dr. Martin sat in a lot of meetings that day because he walked through the Capitol with all of our members. So, we appreciate that. Um, and then finally, I want to just send out a reminder to our families that teach uh PSSA testing is this week. Back at the middle school, it started today. It
091will be starting tomorrow at Thomas Holtzman. Those are the two schools that simply participate in PSSAs. Uh the high school of course does Keystones, but we just wanted to share a few tips for preparing for that state test in terms of how you show up to school, making sure you're getting a good night's sleep. Breakfast we provide here at the school. U make sure you know where you're going in the morning. Positive attitude and please come to school on time. And that concludes my network. >> Any questions? I think next up is Approve the agenda. >> Yeah, approve the agenda. I have a motion to approve the agenda. >> I suppose second move and second roll call. Any discussion on it? Nobody's here. calls. >> All right. Motion to approve the agenda. Dr. Marino, >>
092yes. >> Mr. FS, >> yes. >> Miss Hatcher, >> yes. >> Miss Lavel, >> yes. >> Mrs. Hill, >> yes. >> Mr. S. Johnson, >> yes. >> K. Johnson, >> yes. Mr. Ronald, >> yes. approved. >> Do we have anybody from the public? >> Nobody uh board members comment. >> Anybody? >> I have >> Okay, ma'am. Come up. >> Okay. I I didn't fill out the >> Thank you. >> I didn't sign up. No. Is that okay? Do I need >> Well, I'm gonna let you talk because you just tell us her name and Well, she'll give you she >> Okay, that's fine. I am Diane White. I am in Sesina Township. I have two grandson at Sir Lindammouth and I am here representing the car riders at Sir Lindamouth and we have would like
093to know has there ever been a survey done that we can drive our cars up instead of us parking getting out and walking to Sierra Lindamuth and all kind of weather to pick up our children. I believe that Sarah Lindamuth is one of the only schools in the district that you have to get out of your car, go to the school, pick up your children no matter what the weather is, and we must stand outside and pick our children up. Has there been a study that we can stay in our cars and pick our children up? >> So, I can answer that. Uh, we actually had an opportunity to look at that some years ago. I don't know if you all remember, we were actually looking to use the retention pond on the other side
094by the softball field to do a loop. We actually did a study on the loop. The issue is where the buses would park and how they would come in. So if so, we looked at the gymnasium parking area. So, if cars are coming through the main the current bus loop, that would mean that the buses would have to go over where the gymnasium is to drop the learners off because everyone's coming in at the same time. >> Okay. I know that there was one of the parents that had did this really nice study on it and gave it to someone um and he was one of the uh parents of one of the students um in Sar Linder and I don't know what happened to it but he did show us um what he had
095did and there was no response. I mean there should be some kind of way that we can drive up and pick our children up. I mean, we must stand out in the cold, in the heat, in the snow, in the rain to pick them up. I mean, this is 2026. I think you can come up with a way that we don't have to continue to do that. >> Well, the problem is, you know, when you leave, we only make a right >> and that's fine. But when you come back through the parking lot, everybody's going now. Here's a I I I know we I know we tried both and this is the easiest thing. >> But what we're asking is could there be a study could there be a study or a study now? I
096think there was something maybe done 10 years ago, but can there be something done now to see if there's a feasible way that we can stay in our cars and pick the children up? >> So, we can follow up with you. I know Dr. Mark was principal almost a decade. I think he looked at that that arrival dismissal and he also talked to the township as well. >> We never had we never had car u car pickup but we did we used to have car drop off that was my first year and um I think to the sugar of the squad of township police and all the >> our population went through a change during that time. We went from, you know, 600 learners to where we're sitting at like about 800 learners in that
097building and we were blocking up uh Progress Avenue. Yes. I feel like the question that you're asking is can a study or something be done to to make a solution? We'll look into see what that looks like. >> And and I don't believe I don't know what it was before, but I can tell you I don't know that there's that many parents or grandparents picking the children up. >> I'm there every day. I'm there every day. I pick them up every day. >> Yes. >> Okay. But >> you're grandparents because I know >> Well, that's what I am. And I pick them up every every afternoon. I pick them up. But it's not I mean, we don't even fill up that area. So, it's not I don't I don't know that it will be that
098many cars that it would be a problem. But, I would say if you could do that study because I'm out there. I'm one of them that are out there every day. We can follow up with you because I'd like to know more about what you made my study. So, we can follow up with you. >> Well, I think what I was told before that it was a study that was done and it was not feasible. >> I ask you if I don't have to do it here, but if you're knowledgeable about the parent who presented something, how I want to connect. >> Okay. I know that he was military and he wore a military. Um, but I I have not >> Can I ask you a question? >> Sure. And you you're doing what you
099want to. >> Well, I don't know that that should matter. >> Well, it don't matter what I was trying to get because I know we don't let kindergarten and first graders walk to school. >> No, >> we don't let them walk to school. So, that's why. All right. That's why >> that's what they're kindergarten. I'm like you. I put them on the bus and get them off the bus every day. So, it I I wouldn't take them over either because I don't want to be That's all. But we'll do this study. >> Yes, we that's all I want is to see if if we could do that. I mean, I I I just don't know why it can't be done. So, but if if there's a real reason, then that's fine. But then I think
100that that that there should be then an easier way that we can pick our our children up that we don't have to be out in the elements. if there could be a way that they could just bring them right out when we come up. I I don't know what could be done, but I think if you could just discuss it and see if maybe there would be a better way um than than what is done today. >> Let me ask you this. When you drop them off, do you see the buses there? >> No, they come a little later. >> If you saw the buses, >> they come you'll see that you would have no place to drop them off. Yeah. >> Unless you walk them up, you wouldn't be able to bring your car.
101Oh, probably both. I mean, both you're doing that drop. >> Yeah, I feel like >> No, I think it's it's it's more picking up after the Yeah, not dropping them up in the morning. This is picking up in the in the afternoon. >> Yeah, we we debate because I know what you're asking. We don't need to do >> let you talk, but I want to give you an answer. >> Yeah. Okay, >> you will do that. >> Fine. >> So, that paper that just signed, put your address. >> And and just one other question. Uh in Deer Path, do you know what grades are going to Dear Path >> five and six? And if you go on the website, there is a banner on our main web page that is an FAQ for all those
102answers. >> Okay. All right. Thank you. I appreciate your time. Thank you so much. Okay. Uh so she's ready to go back. All right. Next up is u approve the minutes for board member comments. Huh? We didn't we didn't do board me comment. No sir. Okay. Board member comment. Anybody? >> Yes. I wanted to uh report out that uh on March 26 uh Miss Elise ML and myself attended the school safety summit that's sponsored by the Pennsylvania School Board Association and um Lisa attended the morning sessions and I attended the afternoon sessions and the session that I uh attended in particular was on act 44 of 2025 in school safety. And I just want to give you all a little bit of an update on what that's about. So, Pennsylvania Act 44 of 2025, which
103was formerly Senate Bill 246, became effective on January 6, 2026. And it requires all public, private, and non-public schools to notify parents, guardians, and employees within 24 hours when a weapon is found on school property, at a school sponsored event, or on school transportation. And some of the key aspects of this act 44 is mandatory notification. Notice must be provided regardless of whether a threat assessment determines that there was a danger or not. The scope of that includes firearms, knives, cutting instruments, and other weapons that violate school policy. That timeline for notification notification must be made within 24 hours of the incident using a method likely to reach parents. uh for example, email um and the coverage of that, what it covers, it applies to uh school sponsored events, school buses, and campus property. And
104just the purpose of that, the the law was introduced to improve transparency and rebuild trust between families and school districts regarding school safety incidents. and it amends the public school code of 1949 changing previous practices that only required notification in cases of expulsion. And so I thought that that was something that was very important and I attended this conference because I wanted to learn more about this because I think it's um it's an excellent piece of legislation that we already know is going to impact our district. So I was thankful for that. Um, and >> any other comment? >> And also I was going to say that we had girls attend on Saturday, April, I think it was the 12th. Last Saturday, uh, the young women ready to lead. We had at least six students
105from Susan Township School District attend this all day uh, college preparedness and career readiness program that is sponsored by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated Exon Omega chapter which I am a member of. So, it's glad to see so many of our girls in attendance. That's all I have. >> Okay. Anybody else? Okay. Uh we have uh the minutes March 2nd March 16th and amendment a couple with the uh change in the uh I think the numbers was called >> page number page number >> page numbers. So that's what that's about. Just a page number. So, can I get a motion to approve the changes in the March 18 and March 204? >> February 18th and A through >> A through B is making a motion A through B. >> Yeah. A through B. I can
106see that. Yeah. A through D. I got a motion. >> Move it. >> No. >> Yeah. >> A D. >> Any discussion? I had your >> second roll call. >> A through minutes. >> Yes. >> Johnson. >> Yes. >> A Johnson. >> Yes. >> Dr. Marino. >> Yes. >> Mr. Eld. >> Yes. Motion passes 801 absent. >> All right. Thanks. Uh I'd like to take uh personnel. I'd like to take uh A B C D E and G and I. We'll come back and do H separately. Yeah, last one is not H. I'm taking out H. >> Oh, F. Yeah. >> Yeah. All of them except >> H. >> Everything except H. 93. >> Can I get a motion? >> Seconds. >> Second. Any discussion on those? Roll call. Personnel items A, B, C, D,
107E, F, G, F. I >> Yes. >> Mrs. Hill, >> yes. >> Mr. S. Johnson, >> yes. >> Dr. Marino, >> yes. >> Mr. F. >> Yes. >> Mr. Rose, >> yes. >> Motion passes 012. >> Okay. Uh, now we do act 93H. Can I get a motion? >> Council moves. >> Second. >> We're moveing second. Any discussion? >> Roll call. No. >> You got a question? Sure. Okay, let me go on record said that I am voting against this because I do not support the processes which was used to get to this point and I'm not convinced that the district has found the correct value for the contracts. I can no disrespect to Dr. Erica Willis personally in voting in this manner. >> Anybody else? I would like also like to add a comment
108that um the contract is not fiscally feasible for a district that is currently running a plan deficit the amount of the the contract the salary and for that 19 will be um voting. >> Okay. >> Roll call. >> Item 7H approve Dr. Eric Willis as director of human resources. Miss Lamel, >> yes. >> Mrs. Hill, >> yes. >> Mr. S. Johnson, >> yes. >> Mr. K. Johnson, >> yes. >> Dr. Marino, >> yes. >> Mr. Folks, >> yes. >> Miss Hatcher, >> no. >> Mr. Rose, >> yes. >> Motion passes. 621 absent. >> Thank you. Finance. We can take A through I. Finance. Can I get a motion? >> No motion. >> I get a second. Any discussion? Yeah, I was just taking a minute to >> question. I was just taking a look at
109everything. I was just wondering if we might want to separate anything. That's all. >> Roll call. Finance items 8 through five still. Yes. Mr. Johnson, >> yes. >> Mr. Kson, >> yes. >> Dr. Marino, >> yes. >> Mr. Folks, >> yes. >> Mr. Rose, >> yes. >> Motion passes 81. >> Contracts. And we take A through M second. Second. Any discussion? Just one question. Mr. president of the uh the Apple contract. Um, is there trying to find um I see the invoice but I was trying to find out does that include a service contract >> with respect to um >> do do it include a service contract >> right these are Apple iPads these are Apple iPads for kindergarten students right so >> does that include a service contract how >> beyond the Apple beyond
110Apple one year Apple Care >> the service contract for servicing for hardware David >> like Apple plus any other questions >> roll call items 9 for Johnson >> yes Johnson. >> Yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> Mr. Mr. >> Yes. >> Mr. RS. >> Yes. >> Uh on the policy, is this a first read? >> Yes. >> First read policy. We don't vote on it. got any questions about information? Well, this is the time that sometime in the first read if she saw something that you disagree with, it's time to do it. But the second read, too. >> All right. Are there others? >> I gave her my things that I saw. >> Yeah. >> So, you've already did it. So, that's >> I already did it. >> Okay. Uh >> president I would since
111we're discussing it um the policy committee back >> the policy committee met two weeks ago >> um one of the things that we discussed in the virtual remote the virtual remote learning was um trying to find a balance not just between well number one the virt the virtual um the virtual maybe I get back. Is this part of the ex the electronic use policy or is this the Okay, >> this replaces the flexible instructional data has some limitations but >> Okay, never mind. >> Okay. >> All right. You okay? >> Yeah. Roll call. I had a question about uh the uncompensated lead. What >> uncompensated mean policy that's number letter C 10 uh line item 10 under policy number letter C policy 339 uncompensated leave this is also on the first and my question about
112this was just um I know that sometimes when uh get into unpaid leave status it can potentially affect uh medical benefits and so as we're looking at that I see that is kind of on a casebyase basis or like a kind of a discretionary thing. I'm just wondering if and how this is going to affect medical. >> So, >> do you understand what I mean? >> I can feel that. >> Yeah, I know what you're asking about. Um, broadly speaking, when you get to uncompensated leave, you've generally used all of your paid leave time up already. um our carrier would prefer for us when you've used your leave time up for people uh because our the eligibility for medical benefits is based on the fact you're a compensated employee even if you're using your paid
113leave under the Americans with Disabilities Act. We have to show a little bit more flexibility to make sure that we don't apply a one-sizefits-all policy. That's why it says on a case-byase basis. So it is going to be a challenge for us to make sure that we are being good stewards of taxpayer money by making sure that people are treated fairly but you know and they're no longer eligible no longer on the benefits. On the other hand, on a case-by case basis, we cannot simply say because you've got to the end of the runway in terms of your paid and unpaid leave that we're going to make you eligible or not eligible. That's a very fact intensive inquiry. So that's why that's >> correct. I just wanted to make sure that there would be some
114consideration for that because I know that that is typically a factor. >> There will always be excellent question that is that is why we're there. Thank you. >> Okay. >> Uh others >> I think we need to >> I get a motion to approve A and B. >> I'm sorry. You're right. You're right. >> Different district. >> Wait a minute. That's right. We get ready to vote. I'm sorry. Just first is right next >> others. Can I get a motion to approve A and B? >> Uh motion to approve other um non-resident senior and B overnight trip to the Tennessee L. >> Move and second. Any discussion? >> I'm sorry I said non-resident other I meant non-resident senior. Forgive me. >> Huh? >> I heard myself. I said the wrong word. It's senior and not
115others. >> And both of them, >> you want to take them separate? >> No. Again. >> Okay. Okay. All right. Then there discussion roll 11 A and B. >> Yes. >> Marino. >> Yes. Folks, >> Yes. Mell. Yes. M. >> Yes. >> Johnson. >> Yes. >> Mr. Rose. >> Yes. >> Passes 80 or absent. >> On the new business, we got Mr. Steve Johnson. This is Steve Johnson. >> Yes. with you. >> We as a board and >> I you know it's it's one of those things where you know I just want to say thank you to everyone. I appreciate all of you. I will not be here after this. This is my final meeting. Um I've been presented with an opportunity will conflict with my position here. Um but I want to thank Jackie.
116I want to thank Tama. I want to thank Jesse. I want to thank everyone on this board. Kanji, we went through that uh period of introduction and it was very interesting our first few years here. Um I only have another year left anyway um to sit on the board, but it has been an incredible experience. I appreciate all of you. I appreciate the students of Susuana Township and just in my opinion, the board in itself is a governing body. Uh we're not educators. So, utmost respect to all the teachers out there who do what they do on a daily basis. Our job is just to try and make yours easier. Um, and to give you what you need in order to move forward with your your your mission of making our students and making our
117young learners better people, uh, better humans, and to make sure that they're ready for this world out here. um that are that's definitely you know challenging to all of us but especially for that and especially now in this current environment. So thank you all uh for everything. Um I'll still be around. I'll still be going to functions and you'll still see me uh but uh in a different capacity. So >> given Mr. Johnson's announcement, it would be appropriate for the board to entertain at this point a motion to accept his resignation with regret. It is time to do so and of course can comment after it's vote and seconded. >> Okay. So, did you all hear that? >> So, we need a motion. >> One more thing to to the young people on the end.
118Uh continue doing what you're doing. You're doing outstanding. Wonderful. I remember my children in your same seat and you're you're just doing excellent and I appreciate you and continue to be in the shining light that we need in the future. So board, we've heard Mr. Johnson. So I would like a motion to accept his resignation with regret and a little heavy voice from being So, can I get a motion? >> She said move a motion. I got one. If I don't get a second, you can't leave. >> Second motion. >> Had been second. And so now it's been second. Uh, any comments? >> Uh, just once again just to say thank you. >> You already spoke. >> I appreciate you. >> Go ahead. >> No, go ahead. I but I want to say one more
119thing for the people watching. Thank you to the uh to my family at DCT Techch as well and and all the the warmth and kindness that they've given me. Also um and and all the things that uh all the good things that are happening over there and uh all the the the progress that's being made with students actually, you know, preparing themselves to go out into the workforce. >> Mr. to do well. >> As parliamentarian, if you speak one more time, I'm going to rule you out of order. You're gonna force me to leave. >> Now, any board members like to say anything? >> Make it short and sweet. >> That you really don't want to leave us here. You know, just want to thank Mr. S. Johnson for um his tenure on the board
120over the last uh two years going through two and a half like this our third our third year. So, you're Yeah. you're going to get through half of your third year and you've served in sport with distinction at uh the JLC committee and it's just been a pleasure. Thank you so much. >> Anybody else? >> Mr. Johnson, thank you for your body. Anybody else? >> All right. >> I'd like to say >> Oh, I just want to thank you. uh we bring a calmness and I'm going to miss that and I thank you for your service. We started out this together and I appreciate you. >> Thank I thank your wife for giving up her time to let you come. >> Yeah. >> And we we do we did appreciate what you did and I
121love the reporting of the tech. That was awesome. So, thank you I despite you leaving me hanging. Um, we were Johnson and Johnson. Now it's just Peaches. It's not even her. Make sure that one like everyone said >> um just very just the temperament we needed just the demeanor we needed. We really appreciate your um your thoughtfulness and your uh your deliberation. Um, I know you're going on to do some important some important things. So, I even appreciate the um the thoughtfulness that you put into this decision. So, you wish you >> Well, Mr. Johnson, I know I came to your house and begged you and did everything else, but uh I I really appreciate and uh like you said, when you guys out campaigning that slogan, Johnson and Johnson really went a long ways.
122You know what I'm saying? So, I really appreciate you. I really appreciate you being on the vote check. you really did a great job and being kind of guy you know you know about the stuff out there but the votech is a great board to serve on and like Steve said I said Steve you only have to go to two meet a month they end up going three a month and everything but it was great we really appreciate you so at that time uh at this time we do our last roll call vote with old Steve >> I'll talk I'll talk with you I was going to give the superintendent. >> No, it's all right. We got it. Nope. >> Okay. >> He He We'll talk. >> Yes. >> I'll give uh I know if
123anybody else wanted to say something. Sorry. We We're ready. >> To accept Mr. Johnson's resation. >> Dr. Lorino. >> Yes. >> Mr. Folks. >> Yes. Yes. Miss Lel say she said Mrs. Hill >> K. Johnson. >> Yes. >> Mr. R. >> Yes. With regret. >> And I guess Mr. Steve Johnson, you have to vote. >> Yeah. I think I'll go. passes one. >> So, what we do now is uh we said put something on the website that Steve and we're taking applications and we will take them. I don't know if we can fill this position by the next meeting or not, but I'd like to. The next meeting is May what? >> May 4th. So we got a week. We'll do this until >> that be time to interview candidates or >> what do you
124think? >> I didn't hear you. >> So will that give us ample time? >> Yeah, we have to interview and see how many applications we get and our resumes. And so what we'll try to do is uh let me let me find out a good date because I like to have them sworn in by the next meeting. What what is the posting period? >> As long as we want it to be. >> I'm just asking like don't we have 30 days? I'm just >> We got 30 days to fill it. >> Okay, that's what I'm ask. >> We got 30 days of filling. >> I don't like to >> That's why I'm asking. That's what I'm asking. >> So, this is April 20th. uh by the 27th. We'll see how many application we have by
125the 27th. And if we have everything on the 27th, we'll try to uh have a have a have a interviews for the candidates on the 28th and 29th if we have to. Everybody got that date clear on the 28th? and everything has to be in by the 28th. >> No, 27th. >> 27th of April, >> I would say. No, we're going to do it this way. By the 26th of April, they have to be in, which is that that's Sunday. So, we can look at them on Monday. >> That's cutting us short. That's not even a full week to have posted. Well, if we're going to have this by 4, 8, they don't have to rush that. Like, we want to give ample time for interested candidates to submit their applications. He's just making you're
126just accepting his resation today. >> We But you remember I said something to everybody that even up here and if you know anybody, go out and get them. >> Correct. >> And tell them, right? >> Correct. doing so, but now we are letting the public know, you're giving public notice and you said that we're going to post it on our website that we are accepting applications >> internally about the 27th. Okay, >> that gives us a vis. What's the difference with the 27th and 26? >> It's giving >> 27th Sunday. >> If I'm interested, I will have it in by All right. I move to adjourn. Mr. President, >> next thing is to objour. Now we out of here by 9 9:00.
