Well, sorry about being a little stand for a moment of silence Ice flag of the United States of America to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, liberty and justice for all. May be seated. Second session personnel manage roll call. Everybody's here except Dr. should excuse. I have a motion to approve the agenda. >> Second Johnson and Johnson approve. Any discussion? >> Uh, Mr. President, was there a I'm sorry. I may I may need to resend my motion. >> Was there anything that needs to be uh >> Yes, that's right. >> I will move to resend my motion. >> Number 10, uh it's a it's a uh disciplinary report that we send to the state. >> Yes. >> And we could pull that information down. So, can I have a motion
to pull that from the agenda? >> Council News will amend the agenda to reflect the request to remove item 10 uh a superintendent report. Second move move and second that we pull disciplinary committee report 10 from the agenda. All in favor? I >> oppose. I have a motion to approve the agenda for tonight with those with that uh adjustment to the agenda. Mot. And any discussion? All in favor? >> I approve. oppose. I stand for comments. Oh, hear the public. More comments of the public. Anybody? >> We have six. >> Yes. Okay. >> Provides an opportunity to hear from the public during this section of the meeting. Each district resident or factor may address the board on matters of concern, official action or deliberation which are or may be before the board. The purpose of
the section of the meeting is to be heard and as such the board will not engage in a dialogue but will listen to your concerns and follow up directly or through assigned administrative personnel appropriate. Please begin your public comment by stating your full name. Each member of the public may speak for a maximum of three minutes. At the end of the three minutes, your time will expire. No participant may speak more than once on the same topic unless all others who wish to speak on that topic have been heard and only with permission from the presiding office. Any comment to the board must be directed to the board president and not individual board members or administrators. Concerns related to specific buildings should first be addressed at the school building level and follow the chain of
command before coming to the board. Any comments that are considered disruptive, I've seen abusive, slanders, or defamatory will either be interrupted or terminated. No complaints may be made against specific employees, community members, or board members. Private information related to any student and prohibited. >> Russell Davis. >> Yes. Just a point of clarification. And I was under the impression since this is a working session that we had more than 3 minutes to speak >> once we get to that part of the agenda >> presentations. So should I withhold my comments until then what I don't want to be done is have 15 20 minutes or 20 seconds taken off >> we'll start we'll restart. You can make your comments now and you can also comment again with >> Okay. Thank you. because some of the information
is is relevant to that. So again, I'm Russell Davis. I did look at the agenda. >> No, I'm sorry. >> Can you start that start at three minute? >> Sorry, Mr. President, before we start, can we just have a point of clarification? Um, is gentleman asking for an unlimited amount of time? >> No, not now. at a future point in the agenda or are you asking to not are you are [clears throat] you asking about a con a time constraint? >> Correct. >> I am not going to read a journal but I don't want to be limited to three minutes necessarily. Um and it was my understanding that we had that ability to do that as a concerned constituent resident citizen. >> Is it something on the agenda that you're talking about? Yes, but there's
there's a few different things and it also overflows into >> something that we voted on tonight. >> You will be reviewing it. Yes. >> If if it's something that we voted on tonight, you got three minutes. But if it's something in the committee that you want to talk about, then that's when you can ask questions when we get to that discussion. >> It has not been voted on yet. It's part of the agenda. It's part of the documents that I did download prior to coming in here today. So it's one of your agenda items, >> right? I guess what I my question I guess my statement is that you set the three minute time limit with the understanding that the scope of the discussion for your three minutes includes anything that's on the agenda. If
you are using a mere technicality to try to avoid the threeminut timer I would have a point of contention with that because that's not what the that's not what the point of discussion is in these these public board meetings. Okay. You may confirm it. >> So with the policy, if he has, say you have three issues of concern, he would have three times to speak and he's allowed to speak again on the same topic with your permission again after everybody who wanted to speak on that topic has gone and with your permission. >> So it it depends with like >> I'll stay within the three minutes. Thank you. >> I understand to be within this section agenda. I believe what he's what gentleman is asking is that if he chooses to speak at a later
point in the agenda cannot be constrained at the beginning. You know that's a technical workaround or uh a time limit that is uh for the for the very clear and transparent purpose make sure that everybody has the ability to speak that no one person overtakes the discussion. So just so that we're all clear on that. I I'll make sure. So thank you. Um, I want to share a whole different perspective because I came to the last meeting. I've been coming to a couple meetings. I've spoke at a couple other uh meetings about different things. And I think the last time when I talked I said we lost our focus. Your primary objectives to educate the the students. Last meeting we celebrated the success of the middle school. You had the PR, I believe it was
the pre the principal and the assistant principal in here, and I'm going to paraphrase and say we were high-fiving and celebrating and what have you, their successes. I went home and looked, they're in the bottom 15% of the state. What are we doing? Doesn't mean somebody doesn't shouldn't be commended for their work. But it's about academics. You got a $3 million grant from the state. When I looked at the budget, the proposed budget that's coming up that's being used to help with the deficit. What about the kids? You now have two schools in the bottom 15% of the state. And we're selling celebrating performance and management and leadership with a million-doll plus contract. Somehow we missed it from purely business. If my product that I have to sell is education, then I ought to do
it pretty well. You got a $3 million grant. You didn't hire any teachers. What are we doing? We get so caught up in this work stuff. Forget about educating the kids. You've got pages in the curriculum, proposed curriculum to talk about academics, to talk about honors, AP courses, college prep courses, and all of that. And I thought, that's great. That should be available to students. But that's 30 to 35% of the class. What about the other 60%. We're missing the mark. It's not a personal indictment on anyone, but it's a personal indictment on everyone because that's what we're supposed to be doing. That's not fair to the kids. You see a drop in second grade attendance because things don't work out in first grade. In a personal meeting, we said about trying to do some
things with cyber schools and other things to help bring some of that back. How about we raise the standard, provide a safe and fair environment for the kids and focus on the academics, which is what we're supposed to be doing, not on building properties and renovating and everything else. And I there's reasons for all of that. I get it. Your number one goal is to educate the kids and we miss the mark. Thank you. Thank you. [clears throat] My public comment was that I wanted to voice. My name is Abanese. Um I'm a student at DC Tech and I'm a member of the Sask Township soccer team >> and the team >> soccer [clears throat] team and and the track team. >> Um I wanted to voice my opinion on the school soccer team. Um,
I feel that the sudden firing of coach Dom and coach Carlin was unfair in my opinion because it was sudden and it was just right after a banquet where coach George, our head coach, he said that he wished that they they were here to stay. So that's it's like it's contradicting to what coach George said by if he's going to fire them, why why would you say that at at um at the banquet that we just had. Um I spoke to Dr. Andre Martin about the situation and I just wanted to let you guys know that um we did we do have indoor season coming up. We have an indoor season right now and under a PIAA PIAA rule um it specifically states that you can't use any uniforms chess logo or anything on that.
And um I have proof right here that he's using coach George is using u uniforms during the indoor season and that breaks the PIAA rule. Um I I speak on behalf of most of our soccer team. I know that there's only four of us here, but that's due to some last minute cut off. Um, last minute Yeah, they they had last minute excuses. Um, I want to let you all know that Coach Dom is here. He's committed. He's committed for the team. He really wants us to have a a successful rebuild. I know that we're not a good team right now, but with coach Dom, I do truly believe that he is the right right fit for our team. I believe he's going to help us rebuild for our team so that hopefully one day
we can go back to how we were in the 2000s going to states. Um, yeah, that's all I have for you guys today. If you guys want the proof, I have it here. What is that? You said >> it's a picture of the flame in there. Is that spelled M U SS? >> You're saying that uh these are the uniforms you want? >> No, it's the uniforms I think of the English and it's breaking for PIA. Well, okay. uniform. >> He can bring you up to speed. >> Yeah. Okay. We'll find >> Thank you. Thank you guys for coming. >> Appreciate. >> We'll talk to Dr. >> Martin. I want to just say thank you to you and I appreciate you showing leadership and coming out with your team members as it's got to be
your brother. >> It's my brother. Sorry. >> Okay. Thank you. I just want to make sure you guys appreciate Willie Harman. Good evening board. My name's Willie Harmon as we all know. Uh I originally when I came in I I I said to Miss Tamika that I wasn't certain if I wanted to speak because I uh I wanted to address something and so actually I have two issues. I don't want more than three minutes. I'm going to try to get them both out. First one um on the uh uh on the agenda um discrepancy on the superintendent report. Um I heard that uh motion made and seconded under Robert's rules. Once the motion is second is it is the power it's on the floor. It can't be not it cannot be rescended. um your solicitor
should be able to accurately address that or if you have a uh >> table. >> Yeah. Well, we didn't have a table. Me neither. [clears throat] So, um I wanted to point that out. Um in case you guys really don't know, I have served on judicial committees for Robert's rules. So, yeah. [snorts] >> What were you saying about the Robert? Well, >> about the motion, but >> the motion the motion on the agenda was made and seconded. Therefore, it was now on the floor. >> And you can pull it from the floor. The person that made the motion can pull it from the floor. The person that made second can pull it from the floor. So, yes, it can be pulled from the floor. >> That's Yeah, I understand. But I re I I'll research
it some more. You can research it. >> I'm just saying the other other thing because I'm at one and a half minute mark and I'm going to get the second one out. Um I I I I I heard that we may have a case of nepatism and because it's not really under law um it's not being addressed but I would feel that um we have a a code of ethics when it comes to employment here in the in South Township that we don't have nepotism going on. So, while I don't see anything on the agenda tonight that reflected that area of concern, um I'm bringing it up as an area of concern uh that um the board should adopt some type of code of ethics or uh some type of moral value system where we
don't look into rewarding people based upon um familiarity or family uh associations to people in power because that's what nepotism is all about is promoting family and close personal friends. And you know, I think we all can agree that that just lies in that area of gray shadiness that we just don't need, don't want, and don't want to have to have it investigated at any level. Um, so I'm hoping that at some point we can make that a uh an a agenda item that you guys will address. Um, and that's all I wanted to really get out through tonight. Um, that um, point. Thank you for your time. Thank you for your service. >> Thank you. That was the last one. It was the last one. >> So, if you want to talk to me
about it, this >> I didn't understand. >> No, no problem. >> What? The second part or we talking. I I I you know I know you're not supposed to address names or personnel that's why I didn't didn't point out the cases but it is something that we should >> but I will I will guarantee you that what you're talking about >> it was above board everything is clear >> I'm not doubting that and and well when I was informed I I had made said that I'm not questioning someone's um uh uh uh their their their abilities or qualifications for the job. I'm just saying that because it it seemed like from what from the information I was getting that it was an un addressed final position that a pillar is great. Um but we really
should be either still advertising or or or or taking in some serious consideration before we just make it a permanent position. >> All right. Thank you. Board member comments. >> I have a couple. >> I'm looking down. Last time I was down that way. Anybody down here? >> I do. >> Okay. So, I I'll just state that Susan Township is an equal opportunity employer and all applicants are welcome to apply uh regardless of u relationship to anyone that's in the employer of our township. um for all of our positions. Uh due diligence and deliberation is done and we have a a full and fair hiring process. I will state that um to you, Mr. Harmon, and uh to you, Mr. Davis. I just wanted to thank you for your commentary and um thank you for
your attendance at at our meetings. Um as you can see, we're not um bowled down with public, so we don't have uh you know, time is not an in issue. um keep holding us accountable and keep our feet to the fire about our our metrics. It's important. Thank you. And happy new year to everyone, to our families, to our students who came out. Um appreciate your time. And to our staff, too. I hope you all had a a nice relaxing time off coming out of that cocoon bubble was kind of hard. I know today was rough, but um thank you all for your service and what you do. Thank you. >> Yes, sir. Uh, thank you, Mr. President. Uh, first I just like to apologize uh for not using the proper novel picture. Uh, I
[snorts] should have requested permission to withdraw 100% motion. So, I apologize proper terminology. Um, you know, we're moving into a new year. Um, I hope everyone's excited about what the new year is bringing. Um, I looking I took a a good hard look back at 2025 and I told myself that I was going to resolve this year uh to be uh to be more open uh to uh critique and criticism and more open to collaboration. So in that vein I am I'm looking forward to working with the community um working to look for solutions working not in an adversarial capacity but a collaborative capacity. So in that uh in that respect I do appreciate commentary. Um, I would say though that in that same vein, I will be pushing more this year to challenge members
of the public, our stakeholders, um, to not just offer critique, but also to offer, uh, not praise. I don't need your praise. What I would like to see, um, are your are your thoughts and your, um, and your approach. I'd like to see strategy. Um, I see a lot of crit I see a lot of criticism, but what I don't see is a lot of authors for studio. Um, I see I see a lot of suggestions about what is wrong in the community, but I I don't often see uh thoughts and suggestions and uh real discussion about opportunities uh for improvements. >> I agree. I don't want to just take pot shots. and and I also I I think in this in this new season I think um I think the board will be looking
at making some logistic changes to make that um possible. Uh I think we'll be offering more opportunities for the community to come in and and work together with the board. Uh I don't think I don't think anyone on this board is is above uh workg groups um and uh analyzing specific issues within the district and and working with community stakeholders to find solutions. And I think uh there also needs to be a clear setting of expectations this year that not everyone is going to agree. Um, not everyone is going to get 100% of what their proposed solution may be, but uh, you [clears throat] know, concession is not about winning or losing. Concession is about working towards uh, working towards a resolution. So, I look forward to 2026. I look forward to hearing uh, the
thoughts and the the hopes and the suggestions from the from the public. But I also don't want to think that any I don't want anyone in the public to think that this board is going to shrink from the challenge of meeting you where you are in terms of where what your thought process is, what your ideology is, what your long what your long-held beliefs may be because those may be subject to change. I think if we can all come to the table with that um that expectation that we will all be challenged I think this will be a very so um you know I want to yeah wish I I echo our vice president's uh sentiments happy new year [clears throat] looking forward to working and uh I hope to see hope to see more
and more people fill these seats as we move uh and and to the point about celebrating students. I think two things can be true. I think you can acknowledge uh I think you can acknowledge your areas that you need to improve and I think you can always take the time to uh celebrate uh praise, high five. um these students [snorts] in the district that work their behinds on every day um are you know are not responsible for the for the politics small P of you know the dynamic between adults and who you know just want to go to school just want to learn just want to be educated and want to be nurtured um they can't do that if the facilities aren't up to task they can't do that if they don't have teachers in
the classroom can't do that if teachers aren't happy while they're teaching. So, uh I think all of those things all of those things have to go into uh the umbrella of education. So, you know, [clears throat] education as a priority. I think it's a it's a nuance conversation. I think it's a multiaceted conversation. I'm happy to have I think there are nine 10 of us up here that are happy to have that conversation, but I think it's going to be a full throat discussion. Sir, just another clarification. >> No. >> How do I make those? >> Not order chance to speak later on, but not now. You know, >> uh, next up is >> guest speaker. >> Mr. Davis, hold a minute. >> No, no. Don't. >> I'm just going to let him. There's a
committee meeting. Some people, some people, some things you can't can't. Okay, we moving on. I got to understand the rules. That's all I want to understand. >> Please give me not until >> Well, maybe >> if you want to, you'll stay here. Nobody can stay. [snorts] Uh, a guest presentation. celebrate the families. I hope we didn't take too deep into the celebration. >> Good evening and happy new year. >> Yeah, happy new year. All right, so I'm really excited to come to do our celebrating families. Um, this has been a two-year process for us. Um, before I invite up the ESA family, I want to talk quickly about when I took over at the high school, we did not have a PTO. Um, obviously at the high school you hear about booster clubs and different
things that everybody do to come together, but we were trying to get off the ground at PTO that just covered everything from teachers to students and different things. So, um, I ted Miss Fist a couple years ago with trying to help me and it seems like every time we kept on running into roadblocks over the last couple of years, but about a year and some change ago metas and she said, "We're going to get this done." And as I got a little nervous, I'm not gonna lie, um it looked like every month she was making progress. And I am pleased to be able to say that we are now fully operational with PTO at the high school. And it is because of Miss her hard work and her team's dedication. So when we um got
the date for the high school this year, I knew exactly who it was day one. That's never really happens. And I think it's because of the hard work and dedication. So, um, she has two learners that have either been in the district or have been here. But I want to tell you openly, thank you for your hard work. Um, we had an amazing celebration for our teachers before the break where they brought in goodies and snacks. And it doesn't really cost a lot to do little things, and she did something so small, but it left our building with a big impact. So I want to invite you up you and your husband and your son and just tell you how thankful we are from the high school on behalf of the administration just thank you
for all your help. >> Thank you all for all that you do. uh the work that we do in this district is it cannot be accomplished by ourselves. It does take it truly does take a village to do the work that we're doing. So, we're going to be giving you this certificate today. Uh it simply says um celebrating families presented to the ASA family in recognition of your invaluable contributions to fostering a positive and supportive learning environment in our school and community. So, we want to give this to you. We also want to give you all a blanket limited edition. Uh if you come to any of the games, you can take this with you and wear it proudly. So, we want to get a picture with you. If you don't mind, we're going to
be putting you on Facebook because we want the entire community to see who you are and to recognize that um you are truly helping us become a trade district. So, thank you for that. Thank you so much. Appreciate you guys. Take care. I just want to say as a PTO at the high school that is a huge deal. Typically families will come out when their children are little, but we tend to see less and less involvement as those children get older. So to be able to start a PTO at our high school is a big deal. So thank you so much for that. Thank you. Next up is uh to elect the treasure for the board. Uh the president I would uh I would move to table >> second on a second move and second
to table >> number five Mr. Folks, um, >> discussion. >> No discussion. >> No. On a motion on the table, you'll have no discussion. >> Vote it up or down. Uh, would you call roll call? >> No discussion. >> No, not on table. A election of board treasurer and the motion is to table election. >> Mr. S Johnson, >> nay. Johnson, >> yes. >> Mr. Hedinberg, >> yes. >> Dr. Marina, Mr. Folks, >> yes. >> Hatcher. >> Nay. Hill Mr. Rose. >> Yes. >> Let's move on. >> I'm still on the agenda. >> Still on the agenda. So, uh, um, motion to I'd like to move. >> Wait a minute. This I'm getting ready to say what we got to do. There's no motion on the floor. So, now you know, we don't need a
motion. We just need uh to to have someone uh nominate someone to be treasure. >> I'd like to nominate Miss Jackie to be treasur. I second the motion. >> You don't have to second. Any other nominations? >> I nominated Catholic one. Any other nominations? Have a motion to close nominations. Can I have a motion to close nomination? >> Move to close nomination. Had >> your second move and second nomination to be closed on two names. We have a roll call. Well, >> discussion. >> Yeah. What are you going to discuss? It's nominations. Are we discussing? >> No, we don't discuss. We going to vote. We not can we not why wouldn't Roberts preclude us from having a discussion on >> because that's not the process to accept >> correct what I'm going to do you
know we don't have discussion but I'm going to let you have a discussion what do you want to discuss >> what what I want to discuss is that um we cannot have a a paid member of staff or a member of the board an officer of the board cannot be a paid member of the staff. So the nomination of uh director truly I believe is in error as she is already a paid member of the staff of the district functioning in the role of chief financial officer. the treasurer as it's not that's nominated here um is the election of the board treasurer which is a member of the board which are elected members of the public. Therefore, I believe that that nomination should be null employed as Mr. truly is already functioning in the capacity
of the chief financial officer and acting to sign off on uh the selection of board treasurer as it's stated in the Pennsylvania um what's the piece that mine is failing right I know he's having sab >> Pennsylvania state association of of of school boards um is that we are able to elect a president a vice president a secretary and a treasurer to the board to serve as a voting member of board and just like I could not apply for a position okay for instance to talk about positions I'm a qualified person of the public I qualifications I could have applied for the position of HR director however if I wanted to do that I would have had to step down for my position as an elected member of the board because you cannot be a
member of the board and on the payroll of the district If I can just clarify that. I'd also like to add that this this motion has been tabled previously um since the research has been done on it and it's been brought back to this board for action. >> Anybody else? >> Mr. President, I would call for recess. Huh? >> I would begin the call for brief recess. Ready for the vote? >> Are you not doing? >> I didn't hear you. >> He wants a recess. Please deny everything. >> Oh, I didn't I didn't hear that. Recess. Is that what you want? Oh, okay. Great. Recess. We'll go into executive session. Just supporting members. We'll come back up. and we're trying to make sure right understand what we're doing. So we got that signed out. So
at this time we were we had vote on something and so we have decided to get a clear understanding. say this clearly understanding of the position of the treasury or the board. We don't quite understand the clarity of it. So what we're going to do is put it on again. We'll have a retreat and we get the understanding what the treasur of the board responsibility and the reason why we need one and the reason why we don't need one. how we come up with. So that's the thing. >> So now I had two people that nominated. So what we're going to ask those people that nominated to withdraw your nominations, we have we don't have anybody. And then what we're going to do with the election of the treasury, we will postpone that motion. We'll
vote on to postpone it. We put it on the table. We have to take it off at the end of the meeting, but if you postpone it, we can put it on at another day. So, can I have the people that nominated this hill? >> Okay. >> What is your pledge like to withdraw my nomination? >> I'd like to withdraw my nomination. Okay. >> I'd like to draw my nomination. >> All right. We I don't have to tap and say nothing. Always throw your nomination. So now what I would need you to do to make a motion to postpone this until after we have the retreat. Can I get a motion? Mr. Mr. President, I would move to um to [clears throat] postpone um discussion of this matter for fully grow discussion of uh roles
responsibilities. >> Oh, did you get that miss? We're trying to get make sure that the minutes will postpone uh this discussion um relating to the roles, responsibilities and death. >> All right, there's a motion. Can I get a second? >> Second >> and second by Lamel. Any discussion? All in favor? >> Opposed? I have. Thank you. Next is finance. >> Okay. Uh on the finest we have International bank. We got A through B E A through E. Can I have a motion? >> Second. I move second. Any discussion? All in favor? >> Opposed? personnel. I'd like to take all personnel before um I think it's B. Yeah, B. Uh everything is action all the way to what is it? Okay. >> And we just pull out um pull out B. Can I get a motion?
>> A C and D. Edber second. Move a second. Any discussion? All in favor? Opposed? B. Can I get a motion to approve V? Mr. Eric B books as >> teacher. Can I get a motion? >> Johnson second. >> Second discussion. What I want to discuss. Anybody else want to discuss? Okay. This is Eric Brooks. And the reason why I pulled him out because he was a par professional, which I think is great. I think it's wonderful that we at Susuana Township this young man get a certification. And I don't know if I should say this, but what statistics have said when you have male teachers in the elementary kids have a tendency to be more successful. Not knocking moms and don't get this don't look at this the wrong way, but it is a
positive fact. And I know my my my kids had some uh uh elementary teachers and they turned out to and I and I and I did see Mr. Brooks and I thanked him and so I just wanted to say that because I think it's one of the things that he sacrificed and end up being a teacher and that has a lot to do with the some of the monies that we we get from the state. Uh and so not here now. >> Yeah, he may be online. We're not sure though. Oh, he may be online, but Mr. Davis was here was talking about using money for teaching, but this is one indication here. So, that's my spill. Anybody else? All in favor? I oppose it. programs here. Yes. Was that on the Okay. Number eight.
OAC. Uh, can I have a motion to approve this? Second. Move and second. Any discussion? All in favor? I oppose. How is that? Next up is athletic director report. Did you get the announcement of the committee? >> Yeah, this is committee. >> Education. >> Yeah, athletic. Yeah. Oh, I'm sorry. Education athletic committee. >> So, that's both of those together. >> All right. Good evening. Um, just a few things I just kind of want to update you guys with from athletic standpoint. Uh, somewhat a little longer just because we didn't update you guys last month. Uh last month we had a early signing day. We had three student athletes uh football players that had an opportunity to sign early. Uh two that are actually leaving within the next week. Yor Matt was going to West Virginia.
Uh Josh Netti who's going to Temple and Zakare Leaks who's going to Yukon. Um so all three of those student athletes have already signed their national letter of intent uh where they'll be going to play college football. Uh we'll be having our next signing day Wednesday, February 45. make sure you guys uh have that information obviously prior to where we'll um honor our next group of student athletes from different sports that will be signing and then later in the spring we'll have our last signing day for anybody else that didn't have the opportunity to sign at the other two. Um just a few other this moments that has happened over the last month or so. Uh our girls basketball team uh they recently won the Reading Holiday Tournament. Uh JC Martin was the MVP of
the tournament averaging 20 points. Uh Ava London, Ava London also made the all tournament team. Um so, uh winning two games, back-to-back games are obviously running running pretty well right now. Top five in the district. So, our girls are playing well at the moment. Uh next, a football shout out. Uh we have four members of our football team make the all state team, which to my knowledge at least is a record uh for Ches Township football. Torren Evans, quarterback, Yur Mack, defensive line. Jayen Riley, defensive line, and Josh Needi. Uh, so obviously huge congratulations to those four young men. Uh, and to the entire football team. Um, also just sticking with fall sports, we had two uh sport teams that won the sportsmanship award. Our cross country team and our field hockey team were both
selected by other members of the mid pin. Um, so congratulations both to our cross country and our field hockey teams. Uh, also want to acknowledge our cheerleading program. Um, numbers as high as it's been in a while. We have nearly 30 cheerleaders. enough to fill both a varsity and a junior varsity team. Um so I think that's exciting. That's that that's exciting for our girls. Um and and our coaches and our coaches are doing a good job growing that program. So that's exciting for sure. Um also want to shout out our junior high girls basketball team coached by Coach Alfonso and Coach Casey. Um they're doing a great job. Uh they've been a part of our program for a while and they're doing a great job developing our junior high girls basketball team. Uh right
before winter break, they had a busy week where they played two games. I think they won both. Uh but during that same week, they also spent two hours prior to practice up with the Hannah Pantry. Uh then that same Friday, uh they helped out with our girls basketball team uh during their game hosting the food drive. Uh so just their commitment um and representing our school well. So huge congratulations to them as well. Um I want to give a huge shout out to our guidance department who's worked with us. When I say us, I mean me, Dr. Archer and the principles and Miss Fist. um and Miss Sanks. Um in regards to us updating our NCA courses, um from a school standpoint, uh we spent some time starting this summer updating our courses because you
know from elective standpoint to sure that what classes that we are offering are also in say um instate eligible. So we did a good job with that and we got that up to date. Um so huge shout out to our guidance department who spent some time assuring that our electives that should be in approved are actually approved. Um, and lastly, I just want to give a shout out. I promise nobody's paying me to do this. Um, in regards to some people that so far this year, I think kind of, you know, when you do things for a while, sometimes you kind of start to take it for granted because it becomes regular. Um, and just want to give a huge shout out to district office. Um, both principal teams both at the middle school and
high school. Um, and then obviously you guys as well as board directors for you guys' presence at different athletic events. um you guys are showing up to things that are more than senior day uh home in a way. Um and I don't think and this is not to compare to any other district or what's going on, but that's when I talk to other ads that's not typically the norm. Um so when we have board of directors or principles uh you know traveling with teams or coming in just to a random Tuesday game um that means a lot and um we appreciate that. Also want to give a huge shout out to Mr. Heler, Miss Dudley and their entire grounds crew um who deals with me a lot um just from the fall to the winter
and then transition spring. They do a great job um and they I ask a lot of them and they always answer. And then lastly um and this is from you know me and Miss Roland as well who obviously helps me with a lot of stuff dayto day. Um Miss Bond uh I said it before um I think the way we run AAP is second to none. uh we almost have almost nearly like a one-on-one when it talks in regards to the you know the teachers that we are offering um for each course in each subject. Um and she does a great job communicating you know if kids are ineligible if kids are on that borderline um if they're actually attending which kind of gives me uh Dr. Archer and his team uh the kind of
clarity to to follow up with hey well such and such is not showing up to AP. So um there's a lot of moving pieces that I think has been making athletic success at this point. So, we appreciate it. >> Y questions. >> Yep. >> The concession stand. Is it run during the week? >> Uh, in regards to for what sport? >> Football. >> For football. So, they do use our concessions on just game day. Um, anything that they come and take with essentially. >> That's for them. >> No, that that would be for them. Yes. >> I missed that question. >> For the like the anything else >> being generated like there's no rental uh on the >> uh so they they pay a fee to cover um the custodians that need to be there
security as well um and things of that matter that takes additional time from our staff. >> What do we have in there that they use >> in regards to the concession stand itself? >> Yeah. So the space is essentially what it is. They they bring >> their own foods and things of that sense, but they're they're just using our space >> or space in the back. >> Right. Right. >> What I was just thinking there probably I don't know if she were thinking the same thing that I know it cost to to turn electricity on, >> right? >> And I don't know. I don't know if that goes up during that time period. What's the difference? Because if it is a difference, then it would be a good thing that if they could help out
on that on that on that part, >> right? >> Is that is that is that easy to find out? Because I know because utilities can't knock their Chinese. So, we've gotten a lot of push back from the community of late, >> right, >> when we sought [clears throat] to charge. Um, some of the conversation has been that they are feeder programs, they are taxpayers, which honestly >> we we agree. >> And so, we've kind of backed off of some of those fees. >> Um, so that because they do service a lot of our students. So, so we we've kind of stayed away from the charging too much beyond just the custodial fee. >> I know they making a lot of cash, >> you know. >> Yeah. Know, but they're also kicking back a lot of
that money in regards to equipment and things of that sense. >> Yeah. >> I just wanted to very positive. >> Thank you. Thank you. >> Thank you. Appreciate it. Thank you. Anything else? >> Any other questions? You're also part of the U. Oh, okay. Education committee. >> Thank you guys. >> Thank you. Thank you. >> Education report. >> Okay. Taking a first look at our calendar. But before we do that, um, just like I've done in some previous presentations, I did get a new graphic for this >> Susquin attachment school district trivia. So, all in good fun. >> Is it going to pull up a question about what you do and what Okay. Okay. I'll just >> I'll just give you the the question since it's not working on here. Um the question is which
of our four buildings burnt to the ground and was rebuilt in 1955? >> 1955. >> Yes. Which of our buildings was burnt to the ground and in 1955 rebuilt? So your choices are Sarah Lindmouth. Any takers? Thomas Holtzman. >> I'll take Sarah Lind. >> Okay. Thomas Holtzman. >> I'll say I'll say I'll say >> okay. Yes. Herbert Hoover at the time. Um middle school. Any takers for middle school? High school. >> When the high school that's when high school I say high school. The high school got a kid. >> It was Thomas Holtzman Elementary. Well Herbert Hoover at the time. So, your prize for playing along. I do have a sign for each of you. They they are a little different. Um, one has ST in white, the other one has it in black. So,
I'll start the this one over here. If you like it, keep it. And I'll start this one over here. Just take the one you want. Send the others around. >> They're for everybody. >> We're all We're all winners. So, I'll give um Cara Clinger credit for this uh fact when she and Dr. Martin were giving the tour of the district for the new teachers at the very beginning of the year. This was one of the facts that they had uh discussed with the new teachers. >> I will say that Mr. Ralph made all of these. >> Yes. [clears throat] 3D printer. is a whiz with 3D printer. >> You made this on a 3D printer? >> Yeah, he did. >> Is that located here? >> Nope. It's located at my [laughter] home. >> Okay. Our
um committee for the calendar for 2627, we have uh 22 members who were a part of that. It's all volunteer pretty much like yourselves. Nobody gets paid additional for this. We had five meetings starting in September, early September this year. Uh Amory always says I talk too much, so she challenged me to stick to my time limit five minutes. So we'll see [snorts] [laughter] >> because we we have a wager on this. It's it doesn't start until we have a clock. >> A clock. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Started at 8:55. >> Okay. Overall big comparisons in beginning of the year uh between the current calendar that we're on and the new proposed calendar for 2627. So student first day, we're a week later in the upcoming 26 27 school year starting um August 24th
as opposed to August 18th that we started this year. student last day. We're at June 3, June 3rd this year and we're able to squeeze the same amount in and um have last day of school at June 3rd again this year in service and PD days prior to the student first day. This year we had two upcoming we proposed three for that. After the first day, you can see uh how we're able to squeeze in a bunch more. Uh we cut down the number of PD days from 30 um I'm sorry, PD and um vacation days from 30 down to 24. But we increase the number of half-day PDs. The current calendar we have one and the proposed calendar we have five. So, taking a look at it in chunks of three months at a
time, the beginning of uh the school year, couple of important notes. The three PD days that I mentioned, that was recommended by um several staff members. Um three days, I think, gives the best number of days to be prepared going into the school year. Uh note number two, like I said, this year it's the 18th. We propose it to be the 24th next year. September 10th, very similar to what we are doing in this current year, we are proposing a half day K to8 inservice on September 10th and that will be followed by a full day PD. Our elementary and middle school uh folks really thought that that was valuable to make sure that students were pro um placed appropriately in their classes to begin the school year. All their testing is complete at that
point. They want to make sure that students are placed appropriately. um middle of the year, November through January. One of the um changes that we have is the Monday after Thanksgiving will not be a day off. The feedback that we got from staff members was that they would prefer to have the Wednesday before Thanksgiving for travel have that day off rather than the Monday after Thanksgiving. So, taking a a quick look at the comparison between the calendars, autumn recess in this current year, we have four days off. Uh in the proposed three days off taken away that Monday after Easter. Uh in terms of winter recess this year we had eight and the proposed we'll have seven. Moving to February through April we have two weather makeup days, one in March, one in April. They're
noted with the W's on there. Um so spring recess in the current year depending on whether we have to use a weather makeup day it will be either three or four days and in the proposed calendar it will be either two or three. Um I do have the note for PSSA testing. Uh thankfully it's I think the latest that I have seen it in the time that we have been given PSSAs. It begins in the very last week of April and the last two months of the school year. We are a polling location so schools have to be um closed during that time. So May 18th is one of those days and the date in November is also and they are inservice days and as we did it this past year students last day and
commencement are on separate days again. So we will have student last day on June 3rd and commencement will be on Friday, June 4th. >> At what time? I believe we heard and we can discuss this. There has been a conversation upload when we get to 10 o'clock giving people more notice so that they can make their travel plans a year in advance. We heard very positive feedback about the 10 a.m. So we believe that going forward that will become the standard. The one question I'm going to have, the money after Thanksgiving. Now, you probably don't know why that was put in. >> That was back in the 70. Now, I hate that. I know y'all gonna say something about me talking about longevity. It's just too bad I've been around 78 years and some of
y'all been around 50 or 40. Okay? So that's why that was put in and I was part of that put in because everybody took Monday off after Thanksgiving to go hunting. So we didn't have teachers. So is that going to affect this time around? >> Well, we do have we do have hunting beginning on the weekend now. >> Well, I'm just asking Steve, do you hunt >> and Sundays? >> And Sunday. >> Do have Sundays. >> How about Monday? >> Yes. >> Monday was a hunting day. >> Yeah. Now, normally now, but no. >> So, I know the travels want to leave early, but the hunters want to be out on Monday. >> Yeah, Mr. Mr. Evans was fighting us on that one. >> Oh, well then he was fighting a good fight, but he
lost. >> He did. [laughter] >> But who has the final say? She does not [laughter] >> valuable. I would be interested in seeing what the stats are this year on that Monday >> before we put that in place. Well, I mean, it looks like it's already in place, but I'm curious to see what the responses are as well because >> uh given the fact that folks will not they won't let me see it. We're taking Monday after Thanksgiving, but we're giving Wednesday before Christmas. So, >> and Wednesday before Thanksgiving. >> Wednesday before, >> which we always do, don't we? No, >> we don't get out before Thanksgiving. >> We just started that I believe in the current calendar. This current calendar was the first year question. >> Yeah. >> Um what are the other school
districts around doing? >> What what what other what is we will say in Dolphin County? What are they doing? >> They we won't know that because we're all in the the process of developing our calendars. This is the calendar development season. But we do typically kind of look across, you know, the room to see what everyone else is doing. I will say though, just as we've done in years past, we pushed the calendar out to the community. And so community will have two weeks to take a look at the calendar and let us know which parts of it they have an issue with. So, um, I want to make that clear to everyone. I know you're probably going to cover it >> right there. >> There you go. So, there will be public comment. Um,
and we ask them to go in if you are a hunter or if you are traveling for the holiday, please weigh in because we want to hear who this will affect. >> And Amarie has already sent out the campus messenger went out at 6:00. >> Yes, >> I would say I know this has been going on for the last 45 years >> with Monday off. >> Monday. Yes. And and I think that we should let it stay that way because that's everybody [snorts] used to it. That would be my mine. And I'm not a hunter. I used to be. I'm not a hunter. But that's a day a lot of folks take that day to travel back with their kids and things. Yes. >> I think if the difficulty that we're in also is trying
to get that graduation in before that the end of the first week in June. So if if we give back that Monday after Thanksgiving, that means we need to take it from somewhere or add it on to the end of the school year. >> Sure. Wednesday. >> So T in the proposed calendar I go back here. So right there the the uh Wednesday would be a full day um off school and then it would be the Tuesday right before that is a half day early dismissal be that spoiled parent. I got little ones that died to get off the bus and it drives me crazy with early missiles. [laughter] It's so stupid to say this. Is there any way to get rid of the earliest missiles? So, >> it's hard to get the kids off.
That's why >> understand >> the older kids, I get they can get they go to the house, but little ones, you have have to somebody there. >> And I get it. I'm just me. >> Well, you know what? I'll set aside with you, too, because my investing my retirement up too. [laughter] >> Don't get my kids. So you if you really want to know me is my retirement up to be somewhere down that day getting them off the bus I have you know what I mean then I got to go in town and pick up two half days too. So it really it messes me up all the way around I'm at that [laughter] yeah so that that's that's part of teaching contract so we can't mess with that but that money is not that
that's going to be a hard one. So see what you can do that Monday after Thanksgiving. See unless all the other schools around there doing that. >> Next year. >> Yes. >> I Well, that may be on the discussion later on, but we got to do this all. >> Yeah. >> So you're going to go back and come back with us. It's just >> so we will review the public comment that's open for one week until the 12th of January. Um we'll review it as a a group and um take a look at that feedback >> soliciting feedback, >> right? >> We generally just >> we typically do the one and the reason we do that is because they are already getting so much information from other buildings for other things. We don't typically try
to bombard them because there's a lot but this is one of the reasons why we try to present it and then for anyone who's listening please um we try to push it as well just verbally as well. So >> on the website for them on the website. >> Yeah. So everyone will get a link they can go in and take a look at it >> and Amry has also linked the calendar itself to that so they can view the calendar as they >> give their feedback. >> That's what was my question. Uh where can we find the link to this uh proposed calendar? >> So [clears throat] all parents and families staff members are receiving that. Um, I don't know if it's posted directly anywhere on the website. >> It's not that good. >> I
think it's not that. We don't typically link it. >> Yeah, I love your community. Just just pay. >> Okay, that's okay. My I can get from my grand. >> Yes, there you go. They will get the link. >> Okay. >> And that went out already, right? Because I received it. Yes, it went out yesterday. >> Today. Text. It was text and phone call. >> Any more any more discussion on this y'all? Anything else you want to ask? >> I'm sorry. Just both text and email. I just because I in the past I've gotten I've gotten some big hits from folks that are like I don't I >> I got it via text and email. >> Okay. >> Text email. But it also depends on what options they've opted in opt. So we I'm I'm asking
like what's our redundancy in terms of making sure that because this is the type of thing I don't I don't have a problem oversaturating parents. I mean, we can certainly send a reminder, >> but they have to have opted in for text and email communications through campus. >> Okay. Same. >> So, with that, with what uh President Walls was asking about hunters Monday, that 20 if we did give them that day in addition to the ones that you have black, what could that cost us or how would that So, graduation would be what day? >> Well, graduation is on a Friday, June 4th right now. That would if we didn't give back any other days that are off that would push it to Monday the 7th and last student day or a Saturday. I think
one of the difficulties is staff members getting staff on Saturdays. >> One of the issues is getting staff members to help out with graduation on a Saturday. >> Have we had on Saturday before? >> Not sure. Well, I mean, since I've been here, I don't know that we've had it on Saturday. >> If if I can just interject really quick. Last year, we had it. >> You have to come to the mic, please. >> So, last year having the ability to have graduation at the time, we were we were able to have as a lot of way more participation from our teachers and we had a lot of uh engagement across the board. So, we were able to get it off a whole lot easier than the previous years of graduation. So, the teachers actually
requested if we could have a daytime graduation. We talked about it >> with what >> they requested a daytime uh graduation. So, that's part of the reason why we looked at the 10 a.m. again because we just we were able to get way more participation from all of our teachers. So, um I know we always juggle the end of the year trying to get out in that first week, but um I think if we're able to keep it this way, I think we're going to be able to do some great things and start a new tradition here. Also, >> is not required. Correct. Depending on the hour. Correct. >> And I was just asking I was just wondering how that one day would affect our schedule. >> Are we still working with like Yeah. 180
days. >> We have two weather days. Use the flexible instruction. >> Yes. >> Are our weather days automatically converted into at home study days. So when there's a weather day, does does the instruction automatically convert to I I should know this. >> Is it automatically like a FID or flexible instructional day >> or >> Right. Right. where students are expected to report to their classrooms. No time. >> You don't. >> You do not. It's not automatic. So this last uh this first weather day that we had, it was not uh an instructional day. We actually made it a regular snow day, which we're going to be making up because it was coming off of a >> break, the Thanksgiving break, >> very long break. And so we wanted to make sure that students had their
devices, they had all the things that they needed, and so we didn't want to waste an instructional day when everyone was not prepared. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Thank you. Uh, next up is high school forest count planning guide. Forest planning guide. >> Okay. Phil, good evening again. I don't have any trivia questions, so you don't have to worry about that part. I I definitely I'm the gift. That's why I say that. [laughter] That's all I got. >> The gift is going to be the course planning guide. So, um excited to share the course planning guide again. Uh this year, um this year we uh definitely we're going to talk about the welcome purpose, some of our guiding principles. We're definitely going to go over course offerings. I know we have a couple new members
APA offerings, the new course offerings that we're excited to share. We have some name changes to some things that we're going to be doing a little bit different. uh talk about the financial management that is in there, community partnerships and our uh CTE program that we're looking to get started. We want to talk about the welcome uh obviously the impact and the importance obviously um the course selection directly impacts our students the success where they're going where we're trying to take them. Um, oftentimes we hear about what we're doing. Um, our course planning guide directly talks about post-secondary readiness. Um, the long-term student outcomes, making it clear and making sure everything is aligned so students know exactly where they are. And it's important because simply put, it makes it clear and concise for parents and
families to know where they are. Uh, it helps us reduce confusion, increases equity, and creates a shared understanding for all the students or stakeholders in the building. So, we talked about our guiding principles. First of all, we always talk about learning a learner centered decision-m equity and access for all students, multiple pathways to success and alignment to the district vision and state expectations. So, we want to talk about the number of course offerings by department. There are 26 offerings within English, 18 uh within social studies, 15 in math, and 22 in science. Those are either the academic classes or the honors classes. We have 33 art offerings and they are all completely different. uh 10 uh business in world uh and our languages are 12 which has changed over the last couple years. Our music
department has nine. Our health and EP uh PE has seven uh which ranges from traditional classes all the way to strength and manage uh strength and conditioning and different things. And we also have applied design classes which is also kind of a little bit some of our electives. Um so some of our course say that again >> we're offering 12 languages. >> No not 12 12 different courses within languages. So, we currently have Spanish and French, but there are different offerings in there between the academics, the honors, and different classes. Uh, French one, two, and three, different things of that nature. So, when you get into the AP course offerings, we're really excited about this because obviously we like to make sure that every learner is challenged between academic classes, honors classes, and AP classes.
We spend a lot of time explaining to students that, yeah, you can take uh some classes and get A's, but challenge yourself so you know where you are when you're leaving our school. Um, I remember about a year ago, uh, Dr. Willis ran into one of our learners and they had said to her that they were so excited about what they learned in school because when they got through their freshman year in college, they were basically ready. So, we have different classes here that are outlined, three different columns. One of the different things that you'll see, we obviously have the English, we obviously have the, you know, the math, but we have definitely AP computer science, AP Spanish, some music theory. we have a little little bit that touches every type of interest within our
learners within the building. I'm really excited about that. So, when you get to our new course offerings for this year, we're going to be uh looking to start a Spanish MC, which is a modified curriculum class. Um, we have a lot of our special education learners who are interested in Spanish, but we are going to have a modified curriculum class that allows them to take it at a speed that works for them. a lot of times they're taking the classes, they're struggling. So, a lot of times they want to get out of those classes. So, instead of limiting their their choice, we're actually going to meet them where they are and kind of create a a class that is directly aligned to them. We're talking about the state uh stage design one and two. Um
right now, those classes, we have a new dynamic teacher that we hired in that uh art in art department. They're going to help with the arts. So, instead of having the students build the stage, we're actually going to have a class that helps them understand that there are careers in building stages and different things like that. Uh, we're looking to start a digital cell phone photography class. I know they used to have a photography class back in the day, but now um we're going to try to bring this back to the forefront with some of the technology that they have like in their pocket every single day and teach them how to use it. Um, the science of education one, two, and three, we'll talk about that a little bit later. That's within the CTE.
I know you guys already understand what we're doing with our cadet teaching program. We're actually going to make it a little bit more robust and try to get them to understand the teaching uh aspect of what it looks like and really get them to understand what is happening when they get to the other schools within um what they're doing. We're looking to do a methodology and poetry. Once again, tapping into the language portion, make it a little fun. And these are classes that some of the students are directly speaking to the their their teachers about already. So this isn't something that my office sits down and thinks about that. A lot of this information that I've come to here are directly coming from the interest from the learners. That's the one thing that uh Dr.
Willis has always said during my tenure was doesn't matter what you think. What do the kids want to do? So I'm really excited that a lot of the things that we're offering now or will be offering moving forward are things that the students are directly interested in. There are a little bit of changes that we're also looking to make. So obviously right now you have a teched um we're going to move towards a little bit of woodworking which is in the art department. Right now there's been some struggles in teched hiring teched teachers. Um so we're going to be a little bit um a little bit creative on how we do that. So if we look at we're working in one and two, it's still going to touch touch on the tech portion um but
it'll get a little bit more into the art world. Um drafting and design one and two which is going to introduce some of our learners to what that field looks like. We want to make sure our learners understand that there are so many different career fields outside of just the traditional ones that they look at. Portfolio concentration is a name change within what we're already doing. Um the teacher that we just hired is directly new to the field right from Millersville and we're kind of aligning the portfolio concentration a little bit more aligned to what some of the schools are doing within the art departments within local colleges and uh communities like to ask a question. I think you said wait till the end. I just >> Yeah, this this is course changes. They these
are things that we already have. We're just changing the names within the courses to better align with some of the better standards. >> Sounds like these are all sitting. >> Yeah, these are already there. The last classes are new classes. These are classes that are we're just changing the names too. So when we roll this out, everybody's going to hear a different name, but it still falls within the same departments. Okay. Um financial management. Financial management is something that is going to be required for all schools in the state of Pennsylvania. Um it's we're going to make it a requirement for learners to take starting next year starting with our nth grade classes. Um so what we're going to do is we're going to roll that a little bit into our business department. Um just
to make sure it's going to touch on personal finance, income spending, saving, investments, risk, insurance, and credit. All things that everybody when you hear everybody talk about it, they say, "Why aren't schools doing it?" um the state of Pennsylvania, we first of all, we've already been touching on it in many of our classes. We're going to just make it a class now that everybody's going to touch. It's going to be a touch point for every learner in the building that when we know when they walk out, at least they know what they're doing with their money. We've been doing it a lot right now with some of our athletes, especially with the NIO and different things of that nature. But now, at this point, we need to make sure all of our learners understand what
they're doing financially before they get to college and get a credit card and mess up their credit right away. So, um we're really excited about this. This is going to be a requirement that every student needs in order to graduate. So, it's going to be just like taking health. It's going to be just like the PE requirements across the board. [cough] >> Showing my age. >> So, we have FBLA, we have other we have so many clubs in the high school. We have different things. Everything comes down to like student participation. So, the whole body what FBLA is so that they know in case they don't know >> future business leaders of America. >> Yes. >> Um but what what's going to happen is we're hoping that out of this there are some other things
it's talking about. I know you know we've talked about trying to do a school store. We started talking about different things to try to get our our learners empowered before they leave the building. And I'm hoping that this kind of sparks what that looks like for our learners. So, some of our community partnerships, we are excited. We still partner with Harshburg University, uh, Central College, Harshburg Area Community College, University of Pittsburgh. I know people don't talk about it a lot, but we have the prize program through Westchester. And then I did not I noticed today that we did not have Penn West, who a lot of our learners are taking classes through now. um some of our partnerships we talk about in intro to cadet teaching uh and work study which is something that our
learners are still kind of engaging in and the hope is that if they're taking some of these financial classes and you're taking work study they're spending the money a little bit better moving forward. So um which brings us to this career technical education. I know we approved the the thing with Dr. Martin a little bit earlier, but um we're going to be talking about kind of taking a deeper dive into uh our cadet teaching and teaching education and trying to get learners excited about it. Um so we're going to teach that there's multi uh multiple pathways to success. Uh and we're looking to build strong community uh workforce connections. Obviously, we're talking about teaching right now, but that could be school counseling, that could be psychology, so many different ways. And I think right now
the the biggest thing is getting exposure to our learners to let them know that the things are there. Um, the cadet teaching program is like something that I'm really excited about. I think as we take it to the CTE, I think it's just going to take it to the next level. Um, because we're talking about just engagement, stronger outcomes, and making everything re relevant, hands-on, and just, you know, supports graduation and just making sure our learners are ready for what's what um to come. So, I know right now they're going to Slack, but eventually we're going to talk about getting them to other other schools because everybody doesn't want to do kindergarten and first, second grade. So, how do we make sure that they're ready for the for the levels of area that they want
to go to? So, um I did want to add this here because this is something that we've talked about some proposed changes. I know right now we have a higher um credit requirement than the state of Pennsylvania. And u some things that we've been doing in the high school this year. We've been very creative in doing some remediation and um different things to try to grow our learners. I know that's one of the things that we've been talking about. So, some of the things we're looking to for you guys to consider at some point, not today, is uh reducing a credit requirement from 24 to 21, which would allow us to be a little bit more flexible within the CTE, work study, and different offerings. Uh increased scheduling for flexibility for student supports, uh intentional
uh data informed decision-m for our learners. And then it will give us an opportunity. A lot of times we're teaching kids. We're teaching them where they are, but it would give us an opportunity to go back to make sure they have the the skills needed to be successful as they move. I know right now we have them for 180 days and at some point we're talking about the growth metrics at the high school. We're growing at 100% in a lot of our key areas, but we still want to make sure we're talking about proficiency rates and and some of those higher numbers that I hear the community talking about. So for us to go forward, there might have to be some changes. And I just wanted to communicate that now while we're talking about the
course planning guide because some of these things I can't continue to make changes within the current confines of where we are. So um I know I kind of threw that in on the back end. So uh that's all I really have for the course planning guide. Are there any questions in regards to anything or for me >> for the financial management that don't start with the incoming class? >> What is next year? 30 2030. So it's a require it's a requirement starting next year. So we're going to we're going to have it for most kids to take, but it is a requirement for next year's class. They would not be able to graduate without this course. >> Okay. But you don't >> correct. >> Yeah. No, that wouldn't be that wouldn't be fair to them
especially for like a a learner who's looking to do work study or dual enrollment or something like that. But I mean it's still going to be there for them and we are going to encourage. So the way we do our you know when we do this obviously you guys are approved of course planning guide then we'll meet with our students one by one. Every student at the high school meets with a counselor when they select their courses for next year. So we will tell them that these courses are available but for the freshman class it is a requirement for them to take the course >> for the modified curriculum Spanish is specifically for special education. >> Yes. >> Okay. So the credits it won't be >> there won't be a it won't be um No,
it won't. And it'll be broken down into a A and B course. Uh Miss uh our department chair wrote the curriculum. is going to make sure it is something I think right now we have a lot of kids that want to take it but it kind of moves a little faster. We want to make sure we're not taking it off the table for our learners. >> Yes, ma'am. >> What are what are we doing now and especially seniors [snorts] um in the financial area they're not going to college or can they do a checkbook? I mean we're really doing some basic things all learners should learn >> within our math department. We do have multiple classes that do touch on this um for the whole year. Um a lot of our learners do take it,
especially seniors. It's it's a class that they like to take with their friends, but I think the the focus needs to switch from it being fun to it being extremely important that you focus in on these areas. I know right now they're not thinking about owning a house or interest rates and getting a car, but they're not thinking about it right now. They're not. But what I will tell them is that eventually it's going to matter. And you know, right now I'm doing a really good job with our athletes right now. The NIL money that they're talking about for kids, you know, getting them to talk about, hey, you know, uh, if they give you $100,000, what are you going to do with it? The athletes love it. But like you say, everybody's not going
to college. So what what what can we do to get our learners to understand that, you know, if you get a job making $25 an hour, you know, what is your earning potential in 20 years if you do right by that job, you know, or how do you save money? How do you prepare for taxes and different things of that nature? So we just need to make sure our learners understand um that this is not something that, you know, sometimes when you say requirement, a teenager just doesn't like that word, but making sure that they understand that this is going to help you in the long run. down here now. >> Okay. >> Um the so for the CT program I understand that P structuring. Um, do we know like what the participation rate is
for like local businesses? Are there opportunities for for business owners in a sus in the township, small businesses, micro businesses partner with the district to provide opportunities with it? So that they're not just um not just preparing in theoretical, but they're actually practically applying skills in conjunction with their financial management. uh like how how can we gauge the level of uh interaction with local businesses? [snorts] Um how can we quantify that level of interaction see that a community is actually actually has a stake in um this kid this these kids success. So first of all, there's multiple CTEs. The one that we're looking at first is the education because we already have a lot of things in place. Um I will tell you and I won't show some Dr. Martin's uh but he might share
with you guys eventually. The biggest part is we need to find community partners for all aspects of education. So right now while we're talking about teachers, right? There are teachers in daycarees, there are multiple opportunities forced to get people at the table and if um the committee that Dr. Martin formed earlier, it is a lot of stakeholders from the community that are already in the community and I think we'll include uh Mr. Mack and some of the things that he's doing now to be able to get real partners to be able to help make sure our learners have real connection to the community. I think when we do that, I think it's going to open uh our community's eyes to what we are doing outside of the building. And I think when we do that,
I think it's going to help our program grow. And then eventually uh Dr. Martin wants to look at other CTE for business and different other other areas that our that our learners are interested in. And I think as we take that next step, I think it's going to give us more opportunities for community partners to continue to align with what we're trying to do. >> I think Mr. Mr. M his capacity is one of his goals for this year is to create a list of community partners that we have here within the township but also within the Harrisburg area which he's been attacking pretty pretty steadfast with that. So, um, even though a learner might not be interested in a CTE regarding education, he still is able to provide them with opportunities with other partnership
that we have. Is it that we won't be able to like give you course work and maybe potentially graduate with a associates degree in it, but you still be offered the opportunity to engage in working? >> Yeah. I guess my question more was how can we how can we gauge the level of commitment on a way that [clears throat] work holds them accountable. Um, I mean, these are these are folks that have businesses in the community that have a whole lot to say about the district, but I'm wondering what their level of participation. >> Well, I think that with education in specifically like we already have a pretty strong foundation with our P3 committee. Um, and that's just Joel and Shers down at Slack has been uh spearheading that with all of our local childcare
agencies already. I feel like she has maybe I haven't checked on her this year but it was up to like seven to eight partnerships with the local uh daycarees JCC Hansel and Gretle um the IU u early head start where we they meet uh three times per year to talk about what they have going on. We we've given a professional development opportunity. So there is a relationship, a strong relationship at the at that early primary level and just us having the school system as as we have it here where you got Sarah Little Thomas and even looking at what some other opportunities could look like at the middle school have a pretty good foundation for our learners to be um immersed in. [clears throat] So accountability, I get what you're saying with that, but we
we have we do have some strong relationships with businesses and education for sure. Maybe accountability wasn't that strong, but I guess it would be helpful for the board to see stats like it would it would help for us to see like at least some type of quarterly, maybe not even quarterly, maybe semianual report on what the state of that relationship is. not not to not to point fingers at them, but just to be able to say like if this is successful, then we should be getting the word out and then we have a base to build relationships with all of those other community partners. But um for you know I like I wonder outside of the education uh outside of the education universe like how many of these businesses understand how vital that relationship is
I know we do because you guys are in it but >> so what I what I will tell you kind of piggybacking off for Dr. Martin like we we're getting we're getting people behind our learners like Mr. Mac is doing the work and if if if it was feasible he would have almost a presentation every day. >> Um >> but I think going forward that is something that we will bring to the board in an education committee this meeting just a presentation on what Dr. Martin and I have talked about that what are those partnerships because the board approved the creation of that position. >> So I think it makes sense that he comes to the board and just kind of shares what he's been doing right as a result. >> Yeah. I'm not trying
to make more work for you all, but I am trying to make more work for >> Well, that's an that's an expectation though. >> Yep. That's an expectation that we set for him when we created the position. So, yeah. >> Any other questions? >> I was just question I was I was going you wanted to say something. >> I wanted to ask a question. um your financial management education but personal financial education. At what rate are you are you starting to implement that at? >> So I I'm going to speak for the high school. We already have things in place. It has become a requirement for it to be a credit based in the state of Pennsylvania at the high school level. So we are going to make it a class that is I mean
obviously we have to make it a requirement. We're just going to change the way we're doing it now for all for all learners starting next year. >> Right. Right. because um I'm thinking you know I mean it's it's it's it's just as as an adult um it's it's a daunting undertaking [clears throat] for the last three to four years of your your uh high school career. um is there any way that we can let you know the than the first part maybe learning how to secure a job in say seventh [clears throat] eighth grade and and and progressive you know what I mean so I would tell you that you know there's different artifacts that learners have to take from younger schools all the way up to ours that teaches that process resume writing interviewing
career interests and different things of that nature those things are already in place that we're doing well before they get to the high school so we they have to have a certain amount of artifact I I I getting education. >> Yeah. So, I know by the time you're a junior, you got to have eight artifacts towards career development and interest. Um but I also know that's happening at the middle school and below um well before they get to us. So, they most kids have a portfolio or something that they already have in and and their interests of career of things already before they get to us. >> Right. Since we since we're in the education up here, the question someone asked me, this is not the high school, but Dr. Martin and Dr. Willis. Do
we teach handwriting in school? >> Person, do we teach that in school? >> I don't know if it's required anymore. No, >> it's not. It's not >> because you can you can file the federal tax return electronically. >> No, I know that that I love cursive and I would love to see it taught. However, when we're talking about standards at the state level, it's not required anymore. So, it's a local decision. >> Well, well, so this is uh Hill asked a question about checks. Do we teach kids how to do checks anymore? Well, when you write a check, you got to know how to build a signature. So, what I was going to ask of you, >> he's here. >> I know. I know. I can do the same thing, too. I don't write checks
anymore myself, >> but I would but I wanted to see how many kids at the high school just walking down the hallway, ask them to sign their name. Can they sign their name? >> So, it it it is something that learners don't use. They they don't. But but this is what we're talking about. >> It is a shame that this generation of kids they text everything they can't sign their name. So we >> So can I just You mean sign and curse it because they No, that's the only way you sign it. >> Actually, this is why we bring in the the federal government does not even require that you pick up a pen to file your tax return. >> You don't. It's all electronic. And so, do I agree? No. But what I'm saying
is we're we are we are discussing a world that they no longer live in. >> So, when I go sign when I sign a disagree, >> I just print your name. >> My kids my kids can't read my hand and I print. >> They can't read because my my print is all together. >> Well, it mean I'm talking about something I shouldn't talk about, BUT >> NO, NO. WE I DON'T DISAGREE. It's just it's a different world that they're living in. I saw another school district started a group like a club >> to learn. So why we might not be able to require it something that maybe if the children are interested to start because I mean even now with the um one of historical societies they will they're looking for volunteers who know how
to read cursive because historical documents are incursive and children younger people cannot read them and they're trying to preserve history. I just I just wanted to know because like they say it's the point. >> So >> I don't write checks. >> If I could just interject because I did have this conversation. I know that hour was late but I did have this conversation with someone recently and it just kind of dawned on me because I I write in cursive but it dawned on me that at one point years ago people read hieroglyphics, they read Sanskrit. they don't read it anymore because the they no longer use it. The utility of it basically expired in society. It's very possible that we're on the cusp of something similar happening with cursing. I'm not saying I disagree with
teaching it because I love it. I'm saying there is handwriting that used to exist that no longer exists. >> I got you. I understand. >> We kind of are. It's emojis. >> Yeah. [laughter] like it's not a culture and to be honest was never a penmanship was never a legal requirement because write a mark that would qualify. So I I think what we're talking about is cultural cultural norm that is disappearing. >> I got I just want to clarify I just >> you know when we teach them their FASA or the FAFSA when they apply for their student loans that is all electronic. They don't sign anything. So, as we're been teaching them to file those federal documents, they're not picking up a single instrument to write it. It's all on a computer. They can't
even submit it without going on a computer coding. >> Yes. But no, no, go ahead. >> It's signing day. >> No, we let them do that because we think we like that. We we maintain that. Absolutely. >> What about their NIL bill? >> Yes. I can't stop. I mean, >> I think are conducted that's still conducted where senator required. >> Yes. I'm not saying they're not useful at all. So, I I agree because I love I read >> they won't be able to sign. >> Well, I don't want to take any more time. I'm clear. Anybody Anybody clear? >> So, the next thing up is uh >> bringing back high. Yes. Okay. So, the next thing up is new high school course Spanish 1B Johnson >> Johnson. Sorry. >> Any discussion? Move it. Second. Any
discussion? I >> think it's I'm glad to hear that glad to hear that the district is consider is is taking into consideration these types of modifications. Um I would I would hope that this is number one finding ways to modify the curriculum so that we're ensuring that uh we're assuring that nobody's you know being unfairly uh limited in their ability to not just take uh take courses but also succeed. On that note, I can ask this other question. Why don't we teach Spanish from first grade all the way through from kindergarten through high school? Make it mandatory that that America can no longer be a one language country can speak multi- language like other countries cost too much. >> I don't know. I was just saying that was just a happy Spanish. >> No, I
said from first grade from kindergarten through mandatory. That's where I was standing. >> So we can barely find them for the high school. >> Well, >> we can barely find teachers for the high school. I love the idea, but right now we're struggling to get teachers to teach it in high school. >> We get our president give us those. What's that? Visa one. Is it a visa one that we looking for? >> It was an H1. >> H1 H1 population here now is fully capable of not just reading, writing multilingually, but they're doing it. >> Absolutely. Absolutely. >> They're doing English and Spanish. Yeah. So, are we possibly um identifying? >> Yeah. >> I'm not I don't want like are we looking for those uh those folks who have those capabilities trying to encourage them
to um to track towards the education because they already have the they have the raw capability to do that now. We actually >> we do have a motion. >> Yep. >> Any more discussion on the motion? >> All in favor? >> I >> oppose. I have. Uh next up is uh overnight trip. State van or state ban. Where are they going? part of it. >> I was I I guess I was a little confused by this. No transportation's required. The student is part the students being transported, I'm assuming, by a parent or guardian. What exactly we need to their participation in? So, we're approving their overnight any policy says that an overnight trip is something that the board will approve. They're going on this trip under the guidance of the district. So, if anything were
to happen, regardless if their parents take them or not, they are moving. We don't know that the parents are taking them. Um, so we may not have to have a bus, but they're still going to this overnight location and they will under the direction and guidance and supervision of us as a district. So, we want this on record. >> Okay. >> They're going to be sleeping away from home with our staff. >> Oh, okay. So, outside of transportation, they're still they're still under >> Yeah, they're sleeping away from home. Yeah. Under our guardianship. >> Okay. >> Yes. Will there be any is there another approval for the staff member to attend? >> All of that goes into this approval. >> Yes. >> So, are we um I know Miss Hatcher usually takes this one, but
are we are we going to be [clears throat] providing are we covering like what costs are we are we covering their room and board while they're away? That would have been that would have been part of this if that would have been there. Is this the band? >> Most time they have those fundraisers. >> One student find out. Okay. takes care of >> I don't know if that's the case though that we're presuming I mean yes for them to go and that they're under the supervision of our of our staff but um I guess in terms of expenses like we're covering is it one staff member to also go and have room and board and or is there a conference registration fee like if it's like a band competition thing and they're serving So usually
so so if the if the concern is that we're going to sack the family with a cost the family had to approve the child to go. So they have already agreed to any cost associated with it. Now whether or not they came up with those costs or we covered it can find that out but the family has already agreed that they want their child to attend. Determine who's actually paying them. >> Okay. I guess that's what I'm asking. They want them to attend, but are they asking for us to pay for it as a representative as say the Sesuana band student that's participating in this band as a >> I'm trying to understand how this is differentiated from like any other extracurricular activity. They're being families taking them. [clears throat] They're participating. Um, we're not
if they're under our offices the minute that they touch down wherever they go, wouldn't we be responsible to make sure that they're bad? >> Oh. Oh, no. Kid, we're not going to send a kid overnight and just let them starve. >> That it will never happen. >> I can assure you of that. That we that that will never happen. All right. Any more discussion? >> Okay. >> I was going to say, well, that's different than what we just heard that if they go the government to parent, they're on their own. Like I would expect that if we are making a vote that they can attend an overnight trip, the understanding already is that we would be providing for them to have meals or whatever. >> I guess that's what the clarification is for. if we're
just paying for the lodging and of course at Kalahari you've got to get the the wristband the meal package there and they might order pizza or something but there's I can say I don't know the 100% details of how the eating is going to go but I can say with great confidence that the district will provide food for that child. We've never sent the child >> anywhere >> with no food >> with that and that [clears throat] we didn't pay for it. >> I great confidence and I will get the specifics of what that looks like right now. >> So there is one student he's going there for an audition. He's auditioning. If he makes it then he'll be able Yes, he is auditioning. the parent is transporting the child because we will not approve
one adult with one child. We don't do that. There has to be more than one person. So the child will have a parent there. They will be staying overnight. The teacher will be there with the child even though they're not transporting them and everyone will be fed. So the other thing is so he's rehearsing at Carl High School and if he's selected for the all state will go to >> so hopefully he will be selected. >> So good luck. >> All right. Any more discussion on that >> our report from capital improvement report? Oh, wait. I have >> another question. >> Yeah. I want to stay into in the athletics and education. Okay. I have two things for the future. >> You want to do what? >> I have two things >> for athletics education.
>> Before moving to the next committee. >> Yeah. Okay. >> That's why you want to get us on another committee. >> Who who you want to back up? >> No, no. I have something some two things I'd like to introduce underneath athletics and education. >> Okay, good. >> I would like to take this moment to speak directly to our community members who continue to show up, ask questions, and hold us accountable. Your participation matters and it truly strengthens our district. That engagement exactly what our core values call for because committee partnerships are vital for our success. Tonight I would like to outline two initiatives I'll be bringing forward to deepen that partnership and create more meaningful opportunities to for public involvement. First will be the public meeting on school performance and student outcome for our
next education committee meeting. I'll be requesting that the board administration schedule either a separate dedicated session of the education athletics committee or a separate public meeting to address community concerns about our local performing schools testing results and the broader education experience of our students here at Ces Township School District. The purpose of this meeting is simple to create a space for open honest and informed dialogue. To support that goal, I will also be recommending that we publicly advertise this meeting with a clear link for community members to submit questions in advance, simple instructions so everyone understands how to participate and also believe it would be wise to ask members of the community if they would be able to attend so we can make the appropriate steps to share the information. The second initiative I would
like to ask for is student and community involvement in the Wayne Avenue property project. The second initiative focuses on the development of the Wayne Avenue property. I believe that this project presents a unique opportunity to involve both students and the broader community in a meaningful and ongoing way. Currently, our heist who will have the nature and hiking club and I like to reach out to them to encourage student participation in this process. My vision is for students working alongside the board administration and their club advisor to create, maintain, and update a public newsletter that tracks the environmental impact of the project. This would include regular updates, observations, information that helps the community stay informed. And once again, community input will be actively encouraged throughout this process. This initiative not only strengthens transparency, but also provides
students with a valuable real world learning experience. It's a chance for them to engage in environmental stewardship, communication, and civic involvement, all while helping us build stronger community partnerships. This these initiatives reflect our commitment to ensuring that our district remains open, responsive, and connected to the people we serve. I firmly believe that when we work together with students, families, staff, and community members, we create a stronger, more successful school district. Thank you for everyone who continue to participate, ask questions, stay engaged. Your voice matters, and I look forward to continue this work together. I have a copy. >> Thank you. All right, so [clears throat] short report tonight. Um we have some uh capital projects that are ongoing and we have a few that have wrapped up. So we just want to recap and just
bring everybody up to speed with what's been going on. So here's some of the things we're going to look at. Obviously the Deer Path Road project is uh the largest project going on and that's the one that is ongoing. Uh the high school landscaping project that is complete. Uh and then we'll look at the high school kitchen improvements project. Um, and that is I'll say 99.9% complete. Uh, they're just doing some punch list items, but lunch was served out of the kitchen today. Um, we had a lot of happy students. Uh, so, uh, so that was used today. And then we had some maintenance van repairs that I wanted to highlight as well, um, at the end. So, [clears throat] at the Deer Path building, they're going they're sort of working from the top down.
They're starting on the fourth floor, which is the uh it's going to be the future district office. Um just a a few photos. This actually shows uh the walls are framed. We have drywall hung. We have the infrastructure being put into the walls. Uh duct work is hanging. Um you can see some of the caution tape hanging there. That's actually sprinkler heads. So that is there so no one runs into those. Um so the fourth floor is coming along quite nicely. uh at least one side of the walls are all hung with drywall um and they are working on the other side. Uh they they were able to leave it open to just facilitate some more of the inspections that had to happen there. So uh so that is moving along well. Um you can
see the sound continuation with the with the uh insulation in the walls and then they just uh and then you can still see that we did not cover any of the windows. You still have a good view with that fourth floor. So, um, [clears throat] as we move down to the the third through first floors, this is really what you're going to see if you would walk through. I know you've done a lot of tours of the building. Some some of you have. Anyway, this is what you're going to see. You're going to see a lot of blocking in the walls. Uh, and you see two rows there. That's to support a lot of the furniture that's going to be going in cubbies and that sort of thing. Uh, so that there's good area to
fasten to. Uh, and they are getting the electrical in the walls. uh plumbing, all that type of stuff, as well as then you will see them uh following through with duck work uh and moving on through. Yes. >> Question about our walls. Will many of the walls be modular for growth or like would we be able to make modifications in in the event that we grow or as we have additional personnel to make more space? >> No, we have not we did not choose to go the modular route. Uh when you go the modular route, your walls just go up to the ceiling. Um but that is really not the ideal setup for sound. When you want to try and dampen the sound between classrooms, those walls will go up above the ceiling and then
they will be able to insulate um so that sound doesn't travel across. So, uh, to go with a modular type of, uh, solution isn't really the best situation in that. >> And they did go 6 in instead of four. >> See how big that is? They put thicker insulation in, >> right? >> Yeah. >> Cut down on the sound. So, they That's why that's why they you look at that picture you got there. Those those plates you see going up six inch. >> Yeah. They sized up the They sized up the framing to allow for more insulation value to dampen more sound uh between the classrooms. >> Now, I noticed you got those u plywood and 3/4 in plywood between each. So, [clears throat] would that be put in the boardroom because the pictures and
things we hang on the wall? That's probably what part of the deal. >> But I'm sure wherever there's things that are being hung on the wall, there's going to be blocking. >> They don't know and we don't know where they going to be hang. But you if you set it up for say I you know eye level high or 4T off the wall 3T 5T off the wall right >> we have to put that line all the way down where we can hang >> because if you put it into the drywall you know and I know right pull out. Yeah. >> So if that's something that you can look into >> we can add that to the uh to our discussion on Friday as far as >> you do because most people don't understand that
it's like what you do at home. Sure. >> Right. So, >> no, good point. Yeah. Yeah. We'll add that to our discussion. We have a actually an internal meeting on Friday to uh settle that >> inside of the boardroom. That would be great. >> Thank you. >> What were you going to say about the inside? >> See, that's that those pieces that you got there, they will do both side. Well, they may not do both sides. They do not there. They would. No, those don't. No, because it's only threequarters of an inch. You have the six inch stuff. But um that's that's called blocking in the wall. And it just gives you something to anchor things to more than uh just a piece of dry >> brown things you see going down the wall. >>
That's what they anchor the wall. Then you can you can you can go into them and and not pull out the drywall. >> Understand? I have not had my to so I I have not seen rest of luck but it's my understanding that like for in our boardroom that we are not going to have a configuration similar to this that is tippy on the >> correct >> what's that to look >> we can get layout >> going to be in an arc but it will be tables >> that with um with um what is it what am I saying with the the what do you call it in front of them so it'll look like a is that's connected. Scurry. Thank you. >> Yeah. So, it's [clears throat] >> so the idea is to be
able to use the boardroom for more than just the board uh meeting. So, if we went with >> uh I'll say a modular type of design. We can move those uh what would be the board desks into rows where we can actually have training uh and >> PD type of things. This is actually used for professional development space outside of the two meetings a month. So we [clears throat] were looking at the space being used for that because when we have our new teacher induction currently we are struggling to find space where everyone could kind of come together. So this will give us that opportunity, >> right? >> Does that answer your question? >> Yes. I guess I'm just inspiring about like it's going to still be official. aren't just going to be sitting at
like table sitting >> like we're in the church basement somewhere. >> No, no, no. It'll be No, it won't be raised if that's the question, but it will still be in an arc um with the skirting. >> It'll be arc with the skirting and the microphones. >> It'll be very nice. It's just furniture that's going to be set up for more flexibility and using the space for more than just one thing. >> Uh so [clears throat] they've also started laying out some of the site work and what I'm showing here is actually the proposed playground area. So they'll be taking out the parking lot and then there's going to be a grass field in there. There's going to be uh like a mulch area and then and uh and then a basketball court type of
area. Well, um so they're they're moving along as quickly as they can with the site work portion of the uh the project as well. Uh the next project was the high school uh landscaping project. It was the front of the high school. Um we were missing just a few pieces, [cough] excuse me, at the last time I presented. Uh that has all been buttoned up and finished. Um, and that is just one of the pictures uh before the concrete had not been poured back around the the flag pole uh and the uh and the lawn restored out front uh where we had taken out uh multiple tree stumps uh and some uh some old mulch area. It was just not most attractive anymore. And then the front uh [clears throat] that fencing is just temporary
to keep students off of the the grass to give it a chance to grow. But that is completed as well. Uh as we move into the kitchen, uh the high school kitchen, uh again, this project is complete. Uh so this is the new serving area. Um [clears throat and cough] the center area is a is a salad bar type area. There's a lot of uh serving area. It is uh back where it says S uh Squana Cafe. That is another serving line back there. So, it's a very is a nice U-shaped serving line as well as that I'll say a kiosk in the middle um where where there's more options there as well. Uh so, this area is the I'll say it's the back of house. This is looking behind where that said Sescuana Cafe.
So, this is where they're doing a lot of the food prep and a lot of the hot dishes are going into the serving dishes uh at the window. Yes. in the kitchen. Has the issue with handling and around the doorway been addressing? That's actually going to be addressed. It's on our punch list. >> Yes, we just addressed that with LowR. Uh we had a meeting last Friday >> Before the break in, it's all running together and we went through a punch list of punch list items for them to address. Right. [laughter] >> I see the metal pieces you put around the column. We're talking about that column. >> Yes, the columns. We wrapped the columns uh with with corner protectors. >> Yeah. First I said the kids are going to break them like oh we're
wrapping at home. >> Yeah. No, that's a that's a stainless steel corner protector, so it should be uh very durable. Uh the uh the main cooking area in the kitchen, not much has changed in there, but it did get a nice facelift. Um a lot of the same equipment was re has been reused uh with just a few new pieces of of equipment in there, but everything has been uh upgraded. And then lastly, [clears throat] with the construction over the summer, we weren't able to really get a a good finish on the floor uh because it was full of construction in and out. Uh so we didn't have a time to really shut that down. So over break, we took the time and uh and stripped that entire floor down and and brought that back.
Uh that it looks very very nice now. >> That's right. >> Yes, sir. >> You took all the wax off. >> Correct. >> Put it back on. They put one coat on and they buffed it out because it needed to have something on there. Uh, and that was our solution at this point. It had been done for >> had to be sealed. >> It had to be sealed up that the stripper had had really taken it was more of a dull, chalky type of finish on there. So, we needed to do something uh to get us through that it would be a wipeable, cleanable surface. And then lastly, uh, [clears throat] our maintenance van, the driver's side rear door had been damaged. Um, and it was suggested that we check out Dolphin County Technical School,
uh, to engage them to do some repairs. So, I reached out to Mr. Drestler, who is the, uh, collision repair shop. Uh, I think I have the name of that shop correct. uh and we were able to connect with them. Uh so this student actually is the one that did the work. Um [clears throat] I did not get the student's name, but uh he's the one that did the work. Uh and it was pretty neat. He they said that we were the first sending school district to actually use them to work on our vehicles. >> Steve, that's Steve. >> So thank you, Steve. So yeah, so uh so that worked out great. Yes, I'm glad [clears throat] you did. Most of y'all, I'll say this out loud. I've said it before. If [snorts] you have
a vehicle that needs service, take it out here. You can save a lot. Like, you probably took the door out and if you went to the dealership, probably would have cost you what, $400 or $500 or more. >> Oh, easily. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, they did it for the the cost of materials. Uh there was no labor cost there, but value was that that young man got to learn his trade and and practice his trade >> experiences. >> So it was a win-win for everybody. Yes. >> I I'm glad you did that. I mean, I'm mentioning because that truck been running around for a year and a half or two years, >> right? Yeah. >> So I'm glad to see y'all have it done. I appreciate that. Thank you. >> Yes. >> Thank you. Thank
you. >> So any questions? [clears throat] I just a question I want to ask you. >> On the fourth floor, how much drywall has been put up there? The whole fourth floor is done. >> At least one side of all the walls have been hung. >> And who was that person that hung it? You know, >> I'm not sure who the contractor was that hung that. No, >> because I had a question. >> Okay. >> I mean, someone asked me and I wanted to make sure. I know there was well and you know we strict on the fact that the amount of money we spend it should go in all neighborhoods >> not just one neighborhood I like to see money come in my neighborhood and your neighborhood that first neighborhood so we wanted to
make sure that because low bar and I'll tell them to they have a tendency not they we do certain painting >> work that would be a >> make sure that >> I can I can inquire from Mr. Anderson. Um he would be more than the point person on on it. >> Correct. Correct. >> Because you have an opportunity because things are under $25,000 don't have to be out. It could be Mr. Heler may know someone say, "Hey, you can do this or however that work." So, thank you. Any other questions? >> Thank you. You know, uh the financial report is getting very late. And can we what else? All the stuff on the finance. Yeah. Postpone it. Well, this is committee stuff anyway. Discussion. >> Okay. >> Is that that's not on that's an agenda,
but we don't have nothing. We vote on. Yeah. Right. So, we going to we going we're going to move that to to our next meeting. Okay. >> Yeah. All the finals go. Uh the next uh [clears throat] what's the next thing? >> Everything else is discussion. >> Correct. >> So since we're kind of late here, everything else discussion. There's nothing else that we have to vote on. And um unless we have somebody you had something that you Okay. So in that case there's nothing on the policy for policy first read policy 628 is anything on that policy. >> I guess the first read. >> So with everything else will be done at our next meeting this week. >> All right. Is that okay with the board? >> You got it. you know everything including policy.
>> Yes. >> Policy approve. Okay. >> Do this next time. All right. So in that case a adjourn. Can I get a motion? >> Motion to adjourn. >> Second. >> You don't want to adjourn that. You don't have to say second. We get a motion. No. I just [laughter] >> am I right? I'm ask boss man over here. Yeah. All in favor? Oppos? That's
