[music] [screaming] >> Welcome to WACA TV special daytime edition of Ashland Girls High School Lacrosse. This is Kevin McGinnis. We have Mackie on the camera. We have Jeff down in the booth bringing you the game. Ashland welcomes the Shrewsbury Colonials into the game today, a non-league opponent. Coming with a record of three and three. Ashland with a four and three record. They have no common opponents, so it's going to be a little bit difficult to understand how they match up with each other, but there's no reason to expect this wouldn't be a very close game. It's the fourth year in a row they two schools have participated against each other. Ashland winning the last two, Shrewsbury winning one. All are very close games, so we would expect nothing less than that here today. Ashland and

Shrewsbury both taking the field. Maggie McGinnis will be on the draw for Ashland. Paige uh excuse me, Payton Tripp will be on the circle along with uh number one. Draw comes. Payton is first to the ball, not able to collect it, and Shrewsbury comes away with it. That's number 17, Paige O'Donnell coming up the field. Quickly getting into their offense. Into the middle, they weren't able to connect. Quickly swept to Alana Duffy, who has the ball and now will look for a clear. It's beautiful day here today, but it is a little breezy up here in the booth. May be able to hear that the wind howling. See it Callahan can't come up with the ball, and Shrewsbury comes back into their offense. Streaking down. But good defense by Ashland, Julia Frias on the ball

to the outside. Shrewsbury working it around. Once again, number 17, Paige O'Donnell with the ball. Flips to Lauren Albertson. But once again, without getting a clean shot off, Alana Duffy able to scoop up the ball, and Ashland will look to clear yet again. Clears are always a very important part of girls lacrosse. Maintaining possession is sometimes difficult. Players are trying to get open now, but Alana is patient, looking for the the right opportunity as as different players try to move around. Still nothing open for Alana. Shrewsbury is doing a good job of marking up the white players. But they're not pressuring the the keeper, Alana, here. Sometimes the teams will do that, try to force something a little bit more quickly. Finally, they do. Alana gets it out, but unable to connect, and and once

again uh Maggie McGinnis comes away with the ball, able to scoop it to Lilly Vitti, who comes in all alone and buries it. 9:51 remaining in the first quarter. Ashland goes out to a one-nothing lead. That was a a broken play, but it worked out really well for Ashland to to get that one-on-none situation for the goalie. There's not a lot the goalie can do in that situation, so. Back to the draw circle for Ashland. That is Nico Welsh taking the draw for the Colonials against Maggie McGinnis again. Went nice and high. Payton Tripp quick to the ball to get that draw control. That's a a good sign for Ashland. Ball's lost here, though. And once again, Shrewsbury will take it. Good job by the Ashland defense coming in and and taking away the lanes

for the the Shrewsbury shooters. That's the second time we've seen that. They've really been able to collapse on it. That's Nico Welsh again. Over to Ellery Ahearn. Number 25 is Mia Vlahos. Just got away from Shrewsbury there, but not quite over the restraining line, so Laney Early couldn't go and collect it. Had it gone another couple of yards, that would have been a free ball. Shrewsbury patiently working it around, looking for cutters. Good defense there by Payton Tripp, and then a good switch by actually forced her. Quick shot and a goal. >> [screaming] >> It was a well well-played offensive set there after a couple of good switches by Ashland. Shrewsbury was able to get a clean look and tie the score up at 1-1. 8:23 left to go in the first quarter. Allie Marseglia

on the draw circle along with Payton Tripp. Maggie McGinness is again taking the draw against Nico Welsh. Second time in a row Maggie McGinness has been able to switch it back, pull it right back to to Payton Tripp. Payton collects it so that's her second draw control in a row. McGinness back to Frias and now Ashland is getting up the field after that good defensive pressure by Shrewsbury. Minnie Early in the X position over to Lilly Vitti who gets it out to Maggie McGinness. Marseglia over to Erin Hickey. Cecilia Callahan with the ball now so Ashland showing good patience here. Waiting for a cutter to break open or maybe an individual one-on-one move to to get a dodge. >> [crying] >> Ashland's a little bit short-handed today. There's a couple of players that would normally

be in the game at this point who are on a school sponsored trip. So means uh the players are in different positions. That was a a pass to to Lilly Vitti in the middle that did not connect intercepted by Shrewsbury. >> [screaming] >> Ball down. Not quite able to collect it. Maggie McGinness on the ride. Number 11 Elizabeth Rondinelli. Ashland doing a good job hemming Shrewsbury in. Shrewsbury finally able to get the clear. Moving up the field quickly. Number 12 Lauren Albertson on the goal after breaking free. Cutting in front of Alana Duffy for Shrewsbury to get a two to one lead. Ashland defense now talking it over down there. They're taking a look to to see what alignment they might want to do for those cuts and and speaking about the the circumstance of

that last goal. Another one that went right back but this time it was collected by number 17 Paige O'Donnell for Shrewsbury. Quickly into the offense moving to the X position. Taking a look. Thought about doing a crease roll there but Ashland forced to came over and prevented that from happening very quickly. That was a nice defensive play. This connection by Shrewsbury they were fortunate to be able to collect it while staying in bounds. Call against Ashland. That's going to be a free position shot. Again that's Nico Welsh. Coming in on Alana Duffy alone. That was a shooting space call. Quickly in but a fantastic save by Alana Duffy. She able to get that out. That was a great save. Shrewsbury was able to recollect the ball though and back in. Great defense there. Once again

Ashland is packing it in pretty good. They're they're not giving a lot of space to to Shrewsbury to get once they get into the middle there. Fortunately couldn't collect the ground ball for for Ashland so Shrewsbury will try again. Lauren Albertson comes through and gets another goal. That's three to one now Shrewsbury. That's her second goal in a row. Ashland's making some good defensive stands but unfortunately after the ball comes loose they're not able to collect the the loose balls the ground balls and it's giving Shrewsbury far more opportunities to score than Ashland has had. Defense is is doing their job if they are able to collect some of those ground balls in different circumstance Ashland would have more opportunities on offense. Second draw control in a row for Shrewsbury. That was a little bit

of a scrum but they were able to collect it. That was Nico Welsh getting the ball. Good good defensive pressure by Ashland there. Maggie McGinness was able to ride and Kennedy Lane for Shrewsbury was not able to maintain the ball or perhaps that was Ellery Hearn. Regardless Ashland with the ball hopefully moving into the offensive zone here. Good good pressure in the midfield by Shrewsbury not giving a lot of clean entries. Ashland forced to do a good job of circling back and reversing the field getting the ball to Julia Frias who takes it into the zone. Cecilia Callahan holding for her as is Maggie McGinness now. Once Julia gets back into the defensive zone she does then Ashland will be able to get one of the attack or midfielders back into the offensive zone. Julia's

back. Now Maggie joins the fray. It's good pass into the middle wasn't able to connect with from Hickey to Callahan. Shrewsbury able to collect it. Turnovers as always very critical part of this game. If you're not able to maintain possession of the ball it becomes a challenge. Wide open. >> [screaming] >> Number three Kennedy Lane from number 12 Lauren Albertson and once again Shrewsbury able to put another one on the board four to one. Three minutes eight seconds left in the first quarter. Looks like Ashland's going to call a time out here talk about it a little bit. Uh once again they they haven't had a whole lot of shots on goal. I believe maybe only taken one shot the the one that Lilly Vitti was able to score on. And going to be hard

to hard to put money on the boards if you're not getting good possessions and getting good shots on goal so Coach Blasi will speak it speak it over with her charges and try to see if they can get something going here. It's a busy week for Ashland girls lacrosse. They have four games in seven days. After this one they'll play Monday Westwood High here in Ashland then they're off to Grafton on Wednesday the 29th and on Thursday the 30th they have Norton so four games in the the next seven days so it's an important stretch for them. Again coming in with a four and three record Westwood is always a tough game. Grafton is eight and oh so far in the season. So they've got a couple of tough ones coming up so hopefully they'll

be able to get on track get on track in this game and and the other upcoming games. Ashland coming back onto the field. Shrewsbury has already made it back onto the field. Don't see any differences in the alignments. We've still got the same three in the draw circle. McGinness Tripp and Marseglia. Ashley Force remains on defense. She has typically been playing midfield but again with the team a little bit short-handed playing defense today trying to solidify the the back line defense as a captain and the senior and someone with a lot of experience. Another draw control for Shrewsbury so they're going to get started here in their offense. Quickly up the field number 25 Mila Vlachos. The the difference between the the ride for Ashland and Shrewsbury was evident there. Shrewsbury quickly got up the

field and quickly scores. So, 5 to 1. Bency who scored that. I saw the pass coming from number 12, Lauren Albertson, who has been making her mark with goals and assists so far today. Once again, Ashland doesn't maintain possession. Can't get into the offense and and therefore a lot of a lot of time in the defensive zone. Another draw control for Shrewsbury. It's becoming a problem. And it's another quick goal. Defenses missing cutters coming through and it's it's coming very very quick goals, not even having to work it around. It's the first or second cutter that gets through and quickly scoring. 2:18 left in the first quarter. Ashley Forster going to take the the draw this time, see if she can have any better results against Nico Welsh. After getting first couple of draw controls,

uh last several have gone directly to Shrewsbury. And here, Payton Tripp is able to collect this one, quickly to Maggie McGuinness. Maggie moves the ball to X. Seglia to Tripp, Tripp top outside the 12 over to Aaron Hickey. Laney Early behind the net. Tripp got the ball into Maggie McGuinness. And Maggie puts it into the back of the net. She got tied up, but was it still able to get the shot off. Shrewsbury collapsed on her pretty well. Awkward looking shot, but able to get it off, no call. And it's good goal. It's 6-2. 1:16 left. Ashley Forster again taking the draw. Maggie McGuinness on the circle along with Paige Tripp. She's using Payton Tripp. Batted around a little bit. Nico Welsh boxed out Ashley Forster very well so that her teammate could collect the

ball. Less than a minute to go in the first quarter. See how Shrewsbury decides to play this. Player came from behind the net and briefly came open. The pass couldn't connect. Good defensive pressure by Julia Friess causes the turnover and collects the ground ball. So, up the field she goes. Quickly to Laney Early. Ashland will be have about 30 seconds to work before the end of the quarter. Early behind the net. 20 seconds left. They're going to have to move to try to get a shot off here. It's coming out to to McGuinness. She's going to maybe try to make a move herself. Dodge, nothing there. Down at 8 seconds. Try to get the ball into the middle to Lily Vitti, couldn't connect. Goalie catches it and that's going to end the first quarter. First

quarter is concluded with Shrewsbury 6, Ashland 2. We'll have 2 minutes between the the quarters. Taking a look at the other spring sports for Ashland High School Clockers, baseball comes in with a record of three and three. Softball doing great. They have a 6 and 1 record. Um boys track 0 and 3, girls track 1 and 2. Boys across comes in with a 2 and 7 record. Boys tennis is 2 and 4, girls tennis without a win so far. Hopefully they'll get one soon. About a week away from the power rankings coming out, the MIA power rankings for not only girls lacrosse, but all of the spring sports. So, teams will start understanding where they fit within their division. Trying to move up the the standings, of course, to get a preferential playoff position. Teams

about to come back onto the field. Second quarter about to start. Ashland will be going left to right. Shrewsbury right to left. Ashley Forster taking the draw. Lily Vitti is now on circle. Defensively, you see Kendall Westerland, Julia Friess, Samantha Sciarappa. Shrewsbury awarded the ball off the draw. >> [screaming] >> Shrewsbury is able to dodge around Brennan in the Ashland defender. Quickly in just 24 seconds into the second quarter to extend their lead to 7 to 2. Again, defenders are getting together along with Alana to talk about positioning. This time ball's awarded to Ashley Forster on the draw. Lily Vitti takes it from there. And Ashley Forster playing in an offensive position here, so she's moved back to midfield where she would normally be. McGuinness to Vitti to Forster. Hickey on top. Payton Tripp tried

to get the ball into Maggie McGuinness there, not able to connect. Kennedy Lane came up with the ball off the deflection, moved up the field quickly. Ashland is going to be a player down with Ashley Forster going out on a card. When Shrewsbury gets to the offensive zone, they will be seven on six. Of course Ashley's going to try to prevent them from getting down there at all. Ball down and Ashley does get it. Ashley ball. Erin Hickey with it. To Maggie McGinnis I'm sorry to Payton Tripp in the middle. Payton takes a shot. Doesn't get there. I'm not sure if deflected but Lilly Vitti is the first to the ball or closest to it as it goes out of bounds. So the ball awarded to Ashley there. Uh Shrewsbury might try to double team

but fortunately for Ashley and break through it. Maggie McGinnis gets the ball to Lilly Vitti. Lilly does what she does which is put it in the back of the net. So even though they were down a player, Ashley able to get a goal there. That one was Lilly Vitti's second on the day from Maggie McGinnis. Cutting the deficit to four. Shrewsbury seven, Ashley three. Maggie's going to take the draw this time with Ashley out. This one it's again went back but it's quickly neither Ashley nor Shrewsbury could get it cleanly but now here comes Shrewsbury rushing in quickly. O'Donnell behind the Again this is a seven on six situation for Shrewsbury. Ashley down a player. Cut to net. Terrific save by Alana Duffy yet again and then a fantastic work by Kendall Weston to come

up with that ball. She streaked up, grabbed the ground ball. Pushed out of bounds. Shrewsbury will get it. This delay is good news for Ashley and it get Ashley Forster back in the field a little bit quicker. Running clock here in girls lacrosse for infractions such as that. Shrewsbury not able to connect. Good work by Ashley keeping the ball out. But then a quick cut into the middle. That was Mika Welsh. To number 12 Lauren Albertson. Those names we keep hearing. Extending the Shrewsbury lead to eight to three with six 8:43 left to go. Second quarter. Every time Ashley chips away at the lead, Shrewsbury is able to come right back and get another one. So after each of the Ashley goals, Shrewsbury has quickly gotten another one. Ashley has not been able to get

two in a row to this point in the game. >> [screaming] >> Draw control for Shrewsbury. O'Donnell with a good dodge but Ashley Forster is able to prevent her from getting into the critical scoring area. Shrewsbury content to work it around the outside until they can hit a cutter like they did just there. >> [cheering] >> That was number three Kennedy Lane. Good cut right through the middle. Able to get the pass. It was a good sharp pass and not a whole lot that Alana could do with that with the the pace of the shot and the quick connection. Another draw control for Shrewsbury. Shrewsbury working the ball on the outside. Sending cutters through. Sometimes they're covering those and a good job doing so that That was a foul on Ashley Forster. Giving Shrewsbury and

Mika Welsh a free shot to go on Alana Duffy. Uh bounce shot but Alana was able to get a piece of that. However the ball will be maintained by Shrewsbury again as the closest player to the ball as it went out of bounds on a shot. Again another cutter into the middle. Alana Duffy there to stop that one but Shrewsbury is getting some good clean looks on their cuts. Julie Freeze now taking the ball up the field. It's batted down. Payton Tripp still able to get it back though but that Shrewsbury ride is very very tough in the middle of the field. That's a pass that Ashley was able to get but it was in the middle of three different players for Shrewsbury. Samantha Sayat up to Erin Hickey. That ball is batted down as

well. Payton again able to collect it but making very difficult for Ashley to get up the field. Payton Early guarded closely. Number one Payton McKenna pushes. Maggie McGinnis with the ball. Gets into the middle but warded off by Shrewsbury. Forster Early to Tripp. Hickey's got it behind the net. Reverses direction back to Tripp to Early. Payton Early broke free for a second on a cut. Ball not able to get there. Misconnection there. Tripp to McGinnis. McGinnis tried to bat it in after didn't quite connect. Ashley Forster doing a good job preventing Shrewsbury from getting a clean break. She got back very quickly on defense. Mika Welsh got the ball to Paige O'Donnell who tried to make a move but lost control of it. So Alana was able to scoop that up. Trying to clear the

ball which saw in the first quarter isn't always as easy as it looks. Alana's being very patient but Shrewsbury is doing a very good job covering all the clockers. Alana was thinking about sending one really long. Didn't quite happen. Rips it out. Nice grab by Marseglia. Then she quickly got it over to Paige Tripp. So that was a good job. Into the middle for Maggie McGinnis. Comes in. Great stop. Shrewsbury that was a very clean look. Unfortunately for Ashley wasn't able to put it in the back of the net but Another cut into the middle. Lilly Vitti gets it. Not able to get the shot off. Was able to maintain maintain control. Pass went into the middle of a few different Colonial defenders. Not sure if there was a expecting to have a cut there

that didn't happen but regardless Shrewsbury with the ball coming up the field. Fortunately that pass Fortunately for Ashley that pass didn't connect. That That was a pass and not a shot. So doesn't doesn't matter that Shrewsbury was closest to the ball. That's Ashley ball on the turnover. Alana quickly out over the head of Payton Tripp. Lilly Vitti was able to swat it back into bounds but unfortunately for Ashley, Shrewsbury able to collect it. Maggie McGinnis with a good check there and able to get the ground ball. so now she's sent Lilly Viti in. Shrewsbury gets back quickly. Lilly still able to get there, but got the shot off, but she did get fouled, so she's going to have a free position shot to goal with 2 minutes 32 seconds left here in the second quarter.

That started with a turnover at the midfield and bounced it over the net. That will stay with Ashland Melone early, the closest one to the ball. Payton Muniz with a little shake and bake comes into the middle. She Look like she got hit a couple of times, but still able to get the shot off, and she scores. One is going to be unassisted. Shrewsbury nine, Ashland four. As mentioned, Shrewsbury came into this game with a three and three record, but they have played some tough teams, so they're they're clearly a quality opponent. They've beaten Algonquin. They beat Wachusett 22 to six. They beat Leominster 24 to six, so they have put up some goals even in their Algonquin win, that was 13 goals, so they know how to They know how to score. Shrewsbury comes

up with the ball. That's Paige O'Donnell. Able to get a shot off, but it went wide. Shrewsbury will maintain possession. O'Hearn over to Welsh, over to O'Donnell. Push foul on Ashland there. That is outside the 12-meter arc, though, so it will not be a free shot to goal, so where the infraction occurs is makes a big difference. If that was a few yards closer to the goal, that would have been a free shot. Not the case here. 45 seconds left to go. Shrewsbury trying to put another one on the board. Ashland trying to stop that, and Paige O'Donnell collects it. Flies to the front of the net. Fantastic save again by Alana Duffy doing everything she can to keep Ashland in this game. That one goes in. Lauren Albertson, the the speed of Shrewsbury is

evident. They haven't been able to create space in order to get their shots off around the Ashland defense. This is a very young Ashland team, only two seniors, so there are a lot of underclassmen on the field right now, and uh some of these players they're going against are bigger, they're stronger, they're faster, and um that seems evident right now. 10 for Shrewsbury with 9 seconds left to go. Tough hill for Ashland to climb, but they're going to keep trying. That's a draw control for Shrewsbury, but they're going to be content to run the clock out here, and we will go into halftime with the score of Shrewsbury 10, Ashland four. We'll be taking a short break here, but we'll be back third quarter in 5 minutes. >> [music] [music] [singing] [music] >> Shrewsbury's in

the middle. it. Ellery Ahearn Ashland now back to defend. Kendall Westerlund on the ball. Shrewsbury's working it on the outside. Nico Welsh on the drive. Payton Trip defends. Prevents her from getting out, but eventually called for a card. She's going to be out now for 2 minutes. It's 11 minutes, 12 seconds left in the quarter, so she'll be out till the 9:12 mark. Ashland will be down a player, second time. Seven on six in the offense is on for Shrewsbury, plus a free shot to goal. And quickly into the back of the net. Nico Welsh And only a couple seconds off the clock there, so Ashland is going to be down a player for the next minute and 55 seconds. So, adding insult to injury goal scored and you're still going to be down a

player. With Payton Trip on the sideline, Lily Vitti will join the circle. Begin us in Welsh again on the draw. Straight up two sticks on it, but bounces right to Paige O'Donal of Shrewsbury and they are quickly into the offensive zone. Julia Fries is defending well there. High pressure. Ashland going to back off a little bit. That was a nice cut by Nico Welsh. And another goal, extending the lead to eight, 12 to four. Shrewsbury Not much stuff you could do on that one again. Pass coming from behind the net to a cutter right up the middle. Tough to defend when you're down a player. And this game inches closer to running clock. The lead gets to 10 or more clock will continue to run without stoppages as it happens now after goals. Once it's

running clock it will keep going. Ashley Forster able to collect that draw control fortunately and hopefully Ashland can get into the offense, maybe stall for a little bit of time, get Payton Trip back onto the field. Shrewsbury's content to play their zone now. Looks like they're going to try to double which is what will normally happen in a man-up situation or a woman-up situation. Marceglia behind the net got the ball quickly to Vitti. This is the way to prevent that double team pressure is to move the ball as quickly as possible before the double team can get there. Here comes Megan McGinnis. Sends the offense out. Pass a little bit high over Marceglia. Marceglia's going to chase it down, but goes out of bounds. Shrewsbury ball Still about another 30 seconds or so on the

penalty to Ashland. That's a great job by Julia Fries anticipating that pass, intercepting it. She got pushed out of bounds. Ashland maintains possession. Nico Welsh has to get behind her. Fries takes it into the offensive zone. She's going to probably try to kill a little time here. And she does. Payton Trip has just been released, so she is getting back onto the field and now it's seven on seven again. Pass into the middle. It was high. Lily Vitti took a shot to the head. That is going to be a card on Shrewsbury. Lily Vitti will now get a free shot to goal. And Shrewsbury will down a player for 2 minutes. The 8:54 mark, so until 6:54 they will be down a player. Goals across penalties at the high school level are not releasable as

we saw when Shrewsbury scored in the the man-up situation. Well, apparently they are not going to award a free shot there. They're just They're They're going to call it a foul, but quite sure what what's being signaled here. Oh, change your mind again. So, there it is, a free shot. I'm not quite sure why he sent her behind, but now back out to the 8-meter. Lily got couldn't get the shot off. Got it to Forster to McGinnis. McGinnis tried to underhand it. Good shot, just missed the net. Ashland still maintains possession. Again into the middle, that one didn't connect. Unfortunately, the woman-up situation doesn't yield a goal for Ashland. Shrewsbury's making their way up the field. Ashland going to try to get a double team on here just as Shrewsbury did. Paige O'Donal comfortable with

the ball. Ran away from the Ashland defenders and Shrewsbury's able to work it around to the outside. Now they get the double team on Kendall Westerlund there. Comes up with the ball. Exactly how you want to do that. Get that double team, you got the pressure. Payton Trip up to Celia Callahan. She's getting swallowed up by Shrewsbury. Nico Welsh on a infraction. Now back to Alana Duffy, they're going to try to reverse the field. Get it clear over to Fries. Quickly gets it to Marceglia into the middle to Forster. That was good ball movement by Ashland. Samantha Sayre now with it. Back to Forster. And finally up to Trip. Another card being called on Shrewsbury. They're going to be down two players now, although their first player who was carded will be back momentarily. But

for right now, this is a seven on five situation. Trip quickly got the ball to Lily Vitti, got the pass off. Shrewsbury's got one player back. McGinnis into Trip. Cannot get the shot off. It's a scrum. Lily Vitti comes out of there with it. She's tied up. It's going to stay Ashland ball. And it does. Good work by Lily Vitti. Awarded the ball out at the 12. This is not a free shot. I'll take it back. Yes, it is. Forster with the ball on top over to McGinnis. She's going to try to get it into the middle. Got a lane, got a shot, and it's a goal. Number three on the day for Maggie McGinnis. That one coming on a pass from Ashley Forster. Lane kind of opened up for her. I'm not sure she

was expecting that necessarily, but when it did, she took advantage of it. Time out on the field. Score is now Shrewsbury 12, Ashland five. Just over halfway through the third quarter, 5 minutes 55 seconds left. So far on the score sheet, five for Ashland, two for Lily Vitti, three for Maggie McGinnis. I have unofficially assists for Payton Trip, one for Maggie McGinnis, and one for Ashley Forster. Got three draw controls for Payton Trip, one for Ashley Forster. Draw controls have certainly been in favor of Shrewsbury with 17 goals on the board, three quarters started. That means there's been 20 draw controls and I only have four registered for Ashland. I think it's a little bit more than that, but I think it's representative of the difference in the Shrewsbury to to Ashland in that that

kind of number. I I If it's not four, it's maybe six or seven. So, still a decisive advantage for Shrewsbury. Starting with the ball more than twice as often as Ashland and with twice as many goals, so. Beautiful spring day for girls lacrosse, but it is breezy. Teams taking the field, Shrewsbury is still down a player. So, Ashland will have an advantage if they can get the draw control. And girls lacrosse when there is a a man-up situation, the offending team always has to be down a player in the zone where the ball is. So, on defense, that means they're playing with one less defender. If they have the ball in the offensive zone, they're playing with one less offensive player. So, in this situation, Shrewsbury with the ball, they will only have six offensive

players in the offensive zone. Ashland again trying to double team. That was effective last time. Peyton Tripp jumps the pass. Now, it's a ground ball situation. Peyton Tripp came out of it. Looked like it was might have been an empty check there. Peyton continues to fight for the ball around three Shrewsbury players and comes up with it. Fantastic effort play. Uh ball was batted down by Shrewsbury. Batted out of bounds off of Peyton's stick. Ball keeps going opposite directions. It was Shrewsbury ball, Ashland ball. Back to Ashland into the middle. But, Shrewsbury does a very good job on the ride. They don't give a lot of space for the Ashland players to work that ball into the zone. This time, Julia Fries does. Well done by her. She will take the ball to X. And

she's She'll stay in the offensive zone. Ashley Forster is holding for her at the restraining line. Now, Julia Fries makes her way back. Good pass into the middle. Lily Lily gets it. Not able to get the shot off. McGinnis to Callahan. Peyton Tripp into the middle. Maggie McGinnis couldn't collect it. She's able to get it back, though. Now, Ashland will try to reset again. Still a man-up. Passing to the middle, wasn't able to connect with Lily. I think they're going to say that she was prevented from catching the ball because her stick was being held by the Shrewsbury player's stick, the Shrewsbury defender. Meanwhile, the clock continues to tick limiting the effectiveness of the man-up situation. Peyton Tripp on a drive was prevented from getting to the goal. Peyton Tripp gets the ball into Cecilia

Callahan. Callahan was gobbled up in the middle, but still able to get the shot off. That is another goal for Ashland. So, 12 to six now. I believe that's the first time in the game that Ashland's put two goals together in a row without it being interrupted by a Shrewsbury goal. So, good job by the freshman Callahan to get that shot off. Good pass by Peyton Tripp for her second assist of the day. Let's see if Ashland can come away with a draw control here and put a little more pressure on Shrewsbury. That drive didn't go above the the shoulder, but ref didn't call it. Lily Lily goes down hard, unfortunately, trying to get to the ball. Out comes coach Blasi and the trainer. Teammates concerned for Lily. Going to check on her. Good to

see that Lily is back on her feet standing. She certainly went down hard. Just going to make her way to the bench gingerly, but something you don't want to see. Already short-handed Ashland team is going to be missing their leading scorer for a while. Back to the the action on the field, Shrewsbury will have the ball. Valeria Hearn working the ball into the offensive zone, getting past the Ashland ride. Siat and Westerlind defending the the crease area for Ashland. Julia Fries on the ball. That's Sophie Andevic. If I'm pronouncing that correctly. And quickly got the ball to number three Kennedy Lane for at least her third goal. Putting Shrewsbury back out in the front by seven with 2 minutes and 5 seconds left to go here in the third quarter. Ashley Forster will be taking

the draw for Ashland. Number two Nico Welsh for Shrewsbury. She's taking all the draws for Shrewsbury. Ashland's tried a couple different combinations trying to get something that would work for them. But, Welsh has been very effective. This is a self draw that she gets herself. Right. right through the Ashland ride and quickly up the field to Lauren Albertson. Wide open cutter into the middle. Fortunately for Ashland, Shrewsbury wasn't able to connect, but the ball squirted out. Goal scored. Duffy was saying that that should have been a crease violation. Here, can't tell, but Alana is pretty astute about such observations. Regardless, the goal counts. Eight-goal lead for Shrewsbury. Once again, Ashland trying to mix it up a little bit. The Clockers are going to put McGinnis to take the draw. Forster on the outside circle with

Trip. That one went right up into the middle. Welsh was able to bat it to her teammate. She's now coming off the field. O'Donnell stalls for a second, waiting for the placement player to get into the offensive zone. Freest defending on the crease. Shrewsbury showing good patience here. Terrific save by Alana Duffy. Quickly out to Ashley Forster. You notice Emma Childs entered the game for Ashland there on defense. She is a a call-up from JV. Alana tried to clear it out to Payton Trip. They couldn't connect. Ball goes out of bounds. Shrewsbury will get it. We have about 20 seconds left in the quarter. Almost a last-second goal there by Shrewsbury. Couldn't quite connect. That was a nice pass by O'Donnell hitting a streaking cutter. Couldn't catch the number. Wasn't able to connect, but Shrewsbury

maintains their eight-goal lead here going into the fourth quarter. Anything more than a seven-goal win for any team is important in the power rankings. That's the most value you can get for goal differential, so Shrewsbury will be eyeing that number. I'm sure they'll want to keep their lead above seven. Ashland, the flip side of that would be beneficial for them to have a a loss should it occur to be less than seven-goal loss. The other number we look at is 10. Talked about a little bit earlier. Once it gets to a 10-goal lead, that means running clock. So, the clock continues to run after goals and and during infractions to speed up the game. Ashland come into the game with a four and three record having beaten North Andover, Bellingham, Holliston, and Dedham, >> [clears

throat] >> and having lost to Hopkinton, Dover-Sherborn, and Medfield. Medfield, Dover-Sherborn look excellent this year. Hopkinton, too. Uh all teams that are likely to be on the higher end of seeding in their respective divisions. Each of the games that Ashland has won, they've scored double digits. This game, obviously, they're at at six goals. Still an opportunity to get to double digits, but the likelihood of of winning without double digits in any game is is remote. Certainly in this one, it's going to take a lot more than that. The other hand, their losses, the most they scored was seven. That was against Hopkinton with only two against Medfield and Dover-Sherborn again. All quality teams. Quarter four about to start. Ashland going to try Forster on the draw again. This team is going back and forth between

Forster and McGinnis. Hoping that something will work so far. Nico Welsh has done an outstanding job on the draw and prevented Ashland from getting a whole lot of them. Maggie McGinnis goes for that one, goes down. But Ashley Forster is able to come away with the draw after that little collision. Early had the ball behind the net out to McGinnis. To Marseglia. Peyton Trip whips it into the middle. Great pass. McGinnis couldn't convert, but that was a terrific pass on a nice cut. I think she'd like to have that one back. That was a open net. You're not going to have too many opportunities like that one. Hickey tries to hit a cutter early, not able to connect. McGinnis able to scoop it up, then lost it. Ashland trying yet again. Great effort by Payton

Trip to collect the ball back. The effort is certainly there for Ashland. They are still going after those ground balls with everything they have. Peyton Trip tries to get in. Shrewsbury defense collapses on her, not able to get very far. Now, Erin Hickey with the ball. Trip to Callahan. Erin Hickey makes a cut, was covered, so Callahan does a good job in not forcing anything in there. Ashley Forster may try her luck here with the drive, as she does. Gets into the middle. Gets a good shot off, but a good save. However, Ashland will get a free shot. I don't I'm sorry. Maybe they called it a dangerous propel. Not quite sure what happened there. Or crease violation. Shrewsbury gets the ball down quickly. Shot by Nico Welsh, wide. They will maintain possession. Paige O'Donnell

not able to connect. Shrewsbury maintains possession. Good quick move into the middle and a goal. It is Sophie Ondovcik. I'm not quite sure how to pronounce it, but extends the lead to nine for Shrewsbury. Just under nine minutes to go. Couple of sub- substitutions for Ashland. Uma Mohan entered the game. Couple of younger players who are normally on the junior varsity are participating today with Ashland because of the Maggie McGinnis goes down after collecting the draw control. She's okay. She pops back up. Quickly gets it over to Payton Trip, who is engulfed quickly, but got it over to Early, and now Ashland can hopefully set up. Marseglia around the corner able to get by her defender and and draw a shooting space violation for the other defender who came over and tried to prevent her

from getting to goal. So, she will have a free shot here from the 8 meter. She tries to hit a cutter coming through there, but Shrewsbury saw that coming and was able to jump into the passing lane, but there's Julia Frias doing the exact same thing. Takes a good shove. That's going to be a card on Shrewsbury. They're going to go down a player again. 7:36 mark of the fourth quarter, so 2 minutes non-releasable until the 5:36 mark. That was a great caused turnover by Julia Frias jumping into the passing lane. She's been excellent at that all season, just a freshman. Ref's getting everyone situated on the field. Once the whistle blows, Julia will have the ball. And she's going to take a look, get it to >> [crying] >> Early and Early quickly to

Maggie McGinness. She gets banged in the head. They're going to call a Okay, I wasn't sure if the ref was going into his pocket to call that. Maggie McGinness is going to get a free shot. She's going to Looks like she's going to set up and wind up from there. Whips it. Goalie makes a save. Ashland comes up with the ball. Marceglia to Early. To McGinness. That time she's able to get it into the back of the net. So, man-up goal. Fourth of the day for Maggie McGinness. That one coming from Lainey Early. Back to an eight-goal deficit. 6:47 left. They're still in the man-up situation. There is an opportunity to get another goal, maybe two if they can get the ball here. But it all starts on the draw control. It's collected by Lauren

Albertson. Shrewsbury and quickly into their offense. Ashland going to try to double. Also got close to the 30-yard restraining line where Ashland could have reached over and tried to bat that ball. Didn't quite get there. Marceglia doing good job harassing the Colonial player. I think these Shrewsbury players are are very comfortable with the ball in their stick even in double-team situations. Ashland trying to get the double team going, but the quicker Shrewsbury passes out of it, the harder it is to to get there. This time she got close to the restraining line and again Ashland was able to come up with the ball because she sort of blocked herself out. Pass quickly over to Maggie McGinness to to Hickey. So, that was a situation where the double team plus the restraining line really made it

so that the Shrewsbury player had no place to go, so Nice pass, but again a good job by Erin Hickey to come up with the ball behind the net. However, they're going to say out of bounds off of Ashland. Shrewsbury ball. Good ride by Callahan getting her to the out of bounds and and she did step out of bounds, so the ball will come over to Ashland. Early quickly into Trip with the ball. Maggie McGinness is going to try to cut there. Couldn't get it, but still going to be able to collect the ball over on the left side of the goal. Shrewsbury is back at full strength, so no longer a man-up situation. Forster over to McGinness. Again, ball on the ground. Hopefully she's going to be able to get it and she does.

Back over to Forster. Early behind the net to Hickey in the X position. Now she comes out. Passes over to McGinness to Forster. >> [crying] >> Ashland waiting for someone to come open on a cut. So far it hasn't happened. Callahan tries to drive towards the net, is warded off. So, gives it off to McGinness behind the net. Down to 3 minutes 30 seconds left here in quarter number four. Here's a cutter into the middle. Erin Hickey burst open on a pass from Lainey Early. Erin Hickey on the scoreboard with her first of the year. Nice cut. Good patience by the Ashland offense. They waited until someone finally came open. Erin Hickey did just that buried it into the corner, so seven-goal lead as talked about a little bit earlier. That's an important number for

Shrewsbury to get as many goal differential points as they can. For Ashland to try to get underneath that would be beneficial for their power ranking, so Although the game is no longer in doubt, there are still some important matters to address here in the last 3 minutes. Maggie McGinness fighting for the draw control, can't come up with it. Annika Welsh came in behind her and grabbed it. She quickly gets in there. Kendall Wessling came over, did a really good job. That was a charged called. Don't see that all that frequently, but just like in basketball, Kendall got in there, got position, and the Shrewsbury player ran into her. Peyton Trip loses it momentarily, but then quickly gets it up to Celia Callahan who is going to get there. Lainey Early sets a pick for her

and now they're inside the restraining line. Inside the 30. Hickey with the ball. Over to Early again. Lainey Early's had a couple of assists today hitting cutters. Nice job. Maggie McGinness has the ball. She's going to try to make a move, lost it, but Ashland Forster is able to get it. She gets it into Peyton Trip. Who gets it over to Maggie McGinness who can't quite get it, but then she does, tries to sweep it in, but again, Ashland doing a good job on the ground balls now. They're going to have another chance. >> [screaming] >> Marceglia to Hickey into the middle to Ashland Forster. She got hit in the middle. Looks like she's going to have a free shot here. It'll come down to just about a minute left when she gets this shot

off. Well done by Forster. She drove in close to the goal. She's able to stay outside the crease. So, a minute two left and Ashland does get that ninth goal. Right now it's a six-goal deficit. Ashland Forster on the scoreboard with her first goal today to go along with an assist. Ashland see if they can get one more here and close the deficit to five. Yeah, blue. >> Ball up Paint Trip comes away with the draw control, tries to pass it but batted down but collects it back to herself. She's going to try Oh. That was a little bit of a push there. Ball stays with Ashland. Kendall Westerlind couldn't collect that. Shrewsbury comes in. >> [snorts] >> Warded off behind the net. Shrewsbury will be trying to get that goal number 16 in that

seven goal victory. Ashland had an opportunity to with the ball with about a minute left there but couldn't get into the zone. Here comes Shrewsbury. Alana Duffy is right there, gobbles it up. With 10 seconds left, she's going to stay in the crease for a few seconds then run it out. Three seconds left, two seconds and that is the ball game. Final score from Ashland High School, Shrewsbury Colonials 15, the Ashland Clockers nine. Ashland drops to four and four in the year while Shrewsbury improves to four and three. Thanks to Jeff Hall in the booth, my camera man here Mackie. This is Kevin McGuinness. Until next time. Thanks for watching. Take it or break down all this stuff afterwards. That's good. Of course. I'm here to break down the camera, right? Right. Nice shot.
