001Okay. Thank you. Okay. All right. Well, welcome to a beautiful Thursday afternoon. We're excited to have the call over here at Ashland High School. WACA is once again broadcasting Ashland Youth Sports. We have the Ashland versus Dedham. Um myself Brian Side, I'm joined with good friend, colleague, play-by-play, coach, golf coach, more lacrosse coach, too. Uh Kevin McGinnis. Kevin, how you doing, sir? I'm doing great. Looking forward to this game. We're going to have a good battle here tonight. Dedham comes in with a five and one record. Ashland at three and three. Both teams have have a couple of opponents in common and they've had similar results. So, there's [music] no reason to think this won't be a a very competitive and close game. Yeah, I think let's see if we can get a couple of
002these [music] things in before the announcement, but And we'll we'll we'll continue after the announcements. We'll let Jimmy Trip take care of the announcements over here. Today's rivalry lacrosse contest features the Dedham Marauders versus your Ashland Clockers. 003Ruby Rose Lonik. Number 9, Kate Mattern. Number 12, Maddie Hughes. >> [cheering] >> Number 13, Brooke Merino. Number 14, Lucy Laney. Number 15, Sophia Unger. Number 19, Charlotte Kelly. And now, the starting lineup for your Ashland Clockers. >> [cheering and screaming] >> First number 1, Ali Arzelea. >> [cheering and applause] >> Number 2, Celia Callahan. Number 3, Payton Griffin. Let the coaches coach, the referees ref, and the players play and enjoy the game they love. And now let's go Clockers. All right, we are back over here. Another great job by Jamie Tripp. Jamie will actually be uh joining Kevin for the second half of the broadcast. Give the guy a break. He's done such a good job with the announcing. So again, you know, Kevin and I did a quick uh prep for today's game. We have the three and three Ashland Clockers going up against the five and one Dedham. So Kevin, what's interesting right now? So Dedham um started off hot. They were five and 0 and then they lost their last
005game to Hopkinton um five uh two score 5-20. Ashland is three and three. Uh they too lost to Hopkinton. They're match 7-15. Both teams beat Holliston. Holliston earlier this year 39. We came off a big win against Holliston 11-6. So in terms of common opponents, both teams are 1-1. So 5-1 record versus 3-3, but um as you said, it should be a pretty good competitive game right now. I think the records keep that out of it. Um excited. Beautiful day out. Kevin, what are your thoughts on what are your expectations for this afternoon this evening? Well, as we talked about, it should be a close game. What's going to come down to the factors that always end up determining it? How do you do on the draw controls? How do you do minimizing your turnovers?
006Making sure you protect the ball so that you get as many shots as possible. It's it's really pretty basic. That's Maggie McGuinness on the draw for Ashland versus Mary Kate Cronin for Dedham. Ball goes right out of bounds and they're going to call it a red ball for the Red ball. All right, maroon red. So that's Rozlonic, but that is a false start because she threw the ball in from out of bounds. So that's something that they have to be prepared for to step in and that's a that's a nice start for Ashland even though it was based on a miscue by the Marauders. Yep, you know, both teams very young. Both teams I think only if I have the math right, two seniors on both teams. So um which means when Dedham and Ashland
007play again next year, should see a very similar roster. So young squads um two seniors for both. There's also different starters in the lineup today due to a school trip that has left three or two or three normal starters out of the game. So we've got some other folks who are in the game who may not normally be at this point, but hopefully they'll they'll rise to the occasion. They've all been playing very well. So, I I don't know that it's a significant drop-off. There is a pass attempt into the middle from Payton Tripp to Maggie Meenes, but it didn't connect. And Dedham is going to be on the clear. That's Samantha Said trying to jump for the turnover, but just missed it. But, once again, that's another turnover for the Marauders just stepping out
008of bounds. That's Ashley Forster, yep. Ball to Lily and Captain Captain Dedham ball. And so, we talked about the keys to the game. As neither team has gotten a shot off, that's two turnovers for each team. And the team that minimizes those and protects the ball better is likely going to be the team that that comes out ahead. So, for Dedham, we have in goal number 15, Sophia Unsnar, uh sophomore, I believe. So, Sophia's going up against our captain, Alana Duffy, uh number 50, a junior. So, both young both young goalies. Alana's been a pretty much a starter for the three years. So, a lot of experience. >> Yeah, she is she is a difference maker in a lot of these games because uh no offense to any other goalie in the league. Uh for
009my money, Alana's the best one. So, uh and her save percentage in increases with each year from 43% as a a sophomore, which is still a good percent, to almost 52% last year and 55% this year. So, she's stopping more than 50% of the shots she sees. This is a really effective percentage. >> Yeah, and even if you just watch her demeanor, if you watch her playing, she's very active, very physical over there, just leader. So, I think we got we we got the one we need in goalie right now for the next couple years. We've been very fortunate. >> Mhm. Ashland's defense has done a good job locking down. That's Ashley Forster on the the dead end ball carrier. It looks like Ruby Raslonik uh into the middle and uh yet again another turnover.
010Quick Quickly out from Payton Trip up to uh Celia Callahan and then back to Payton. And she's going to take it all the way back to to Alana. That's a a nice place sometimes. Kind of change the field just like they're taught in soccer to do. It's a it's a good way to get those attacks to to back off. Okay, so once again turnover after turnover for each team where almost 4 minutes into the game, no shots yet. >> Yeah. Little unusual over here for uh Philly Cross. And another turnover potentially. Yep. Lilly Vitti So Lilly has help in the middle but quickly trapped from behind but Sai was able to get it out to Trip and Houshmand trying to move it into the offensive zone and hopefully this time get a shot. There's McGinnis
011over there in the back. That's a place where you'll see McGinnis setting up quite a bit. She She'll set up from behind, try to take it out and either drive or or hit a cutter. Uh it's a a frequent alignment that they have with So they're calling out a play now um which is play they call Yukon. Play that you must love. >> Yeah, I do love that. Having a Very fond of it. Talking about UConn, we're we're we're big UConn fans, especially uh for uh excited to see Izzy Fife going to uh Dallas, being back with Paige, so So that's generally a two-person game uh trying to hit a cut or either taking it individually or hitting a cutter. Right there is a good pass from behind but just again didn't connect. Hopefully Erin
012Hickey trying to track the ball down in the corner doing a good job fighting for it. And she maintains possession. That was That was good body position by Erin Hickey there. Well done. Yeah, well done. That is uh the Liv video I think with the goal. First goal of the game number 13 captain. Yeah, it was. That was a nice catch in the middle there and she had a little time to get the shot off and put it in. I think the pass might have come from Peyton Tripp I think it was Erin and Peyton to uh to Liv, yeah. So until we're told otherwise, that's what we're going with. >> Yep. All of our stats are unofficial. They are. Except we know right now we have not had a goal shot against our goalie.
013So that's that's the one stat although Alana has touched the ball but no official shots against us. That's right. So back to the draw circle, Maggie McGuinness going up against Mary Cronin who is a junior for Dedham. It goes almost exactly the same way it went last time. >> Yeah. Uh trying to pull it and and that was kicked out of bounds off of Dedham from what I saw so Ashland will maintain the ball both times. They've they've gotten possession after the the draw although it hasn't quite been clean. That pass batted down and >> races for Dedham. Brooke Morano with the steal over there taking the ball up. See number six uh Ava Landry and that junior. Dedham trying to get their first shot off. See if they can get something going here for
014themselves. That's That's good defense Yeah, by Laney and uh Tripp. So both Arminians. Deep throw. Erin's got some space over there. Looks like Liv's going to be able to collect that. Good work. Lilly Vitti, one of our seniors, thinking of going to San Diego State next year. She is future Aztec. Yep. Good job by Erin Hickey getting it into the offensive zone after that collection and now they can try to set up their offense a little bit. That's Trip on top to Marseglia. Little bobble, but collects it back. Lilly Vitti now setting up behind the net. Out on the elbow to Maggie McGinnis who's going to try to take it into the middle. She hits >> pass. I just dropped it though, unfortunately. Yeah, looked like they had a connection there, but didn't didn't quite
015come to fruition. Maddy Chew up the field for Dedham to Lucy Blaney. And once again, Dedham is going to try to get their offense started. Couple times in the offensive zone, but haven't been able to generate any scoring chances or shots for that matter. Partly due to the Acton defense, although right there >> Right there. there is a goal. Goal by number six, Ava Landry. I think she to me seems like one of their top players over there, very aggressive junior. I think uh striker offense, not a middie. Yep, she she curled around the net, she got a got a good low shot off. Uh able to put it behind Alana and we are tied at one to one with four and a half minutes left to go in quarter number one. Again, McGinnis taking
016the draw. We got Trip, got Blaney, and then on the Dedham side, number eight Ruby, number four, Kelsey Murphy, and number What is that? Seven? It's self draw control for Maggie McGinnis. >> Self draw control for Maggie McGinnis. There she was able to put it up and grab it herself. And now she works it into the offensive zone trying to get behind the net, but good defensive pressure there by Mary Kate Cronin. But Maggie is comfortable with the ball and she'll not mind having a little defensive pressure. That's Ooh. >> Pass into the middle. >> Yeah, Trip to Vitti. Second time this. Yeah. Helps when the the recipient there is a tall target. That pass went over the defender. Lilly was able to grab it >> Yeah. put it behind the goalie, so uh you
017can't teach height. >> No, you cannot. Height, athleticism, and just I think good um collaboration between both of them, so you got uh Trip one Trip has graduated. Vitti's graduating and uh the other Trip will be uh graduating next year. So, you got McGinnis and can't tell who's taking the draw on Denim, number seven, Mary Kate Cronin. That one Denim comes away with. How's the Murphy? Yeah. Ooh. And ball down. Denim's able to re- collect in the corner. Good pressure by Kendall Westhill and making it a little bit harder on the defenders, but Denim now seems to have their spacing adjusted. Cut right into the middle there. Um but taken away by Ashley Forest there with a caused turnover there, so uh what we're we're seeing is pretty evenly matched teams. Yeah, both both teams
018have had their opportunities. Ashland's been able to capitalize a little bit more on theirs, but um no reason to think that this won't be a close game for the entire game. >> Denim putting on some good pressure there coming up the field. I also noticed, you know, some changes on the Ashland side. Obviously, we got three girls missing. Ashley Forchu, who's been playing a lot of midi, Mhm. um she's back to defense and uh um Early's actually playing she's typically on the offense side. It looks like she's playing more midi today getting the start. So, some changes on the on the roster for Ashland. Yeah. Um based on having three players out, you're going to have to >> Yep. move around. There's a couple of the players coming up who are normally on the JV
019team. We haven't seen them yet, but maybe we will a little bit later on. It's a pretty short bench for Ashland, only three substitutes. And it's a pretty warm day, so It's uh beautiful day out right now. I know Marathon Monday's coming up. Going to be a little chilly, perfect for the runners, tough for the uh spectators, but today it's gorgeous out. I mean, this is We're not being blown off the the roof here like we normally are. >> No. Gennis keeps the ball alive. Dedham collects that turnover and is heading up the field. Fortunately, most of the Ashland players were behind the ball, so it gave Dedham a pretty clean outlet. And that was [cheering] a beautiful check from behind by Ashley Forchu. >> Really great job. To to pull that off cleanly without
020a foul was fantastic. Uh but uh once again, same roll around the back of the net for Avery Lane to tie up to tie up the score. Um hopefully, the Ashland defenders are are noticing that's same play that Yep. occurred both times and will be well aware of it moving forward. >> Yeah. That that's I think she's definitely one of their top players, but it's two two of their exact same play as you just mentioned. So, first sub for Dedham. Now, we don't have all the roster names, so I know that was number four leaving for Dedham. And number one is in for um actually, it's Paige, so Okay, Paige Prouliot, I'm guessing. Second draw control in a row for Duxbury. Foul on Ashlyn, they will maintain possession. Ruby Rosloniec gets the shot off, goes
021just wide. Looks like Duxbury will maintain possession as the closest player to the ball on the end line after a shot. Got a minute 20 left in the uh first quarter over here. Let's see if Duxbury tries to hold for the last shot. Here is uh number six again. This quarter has flown by. >> flown by. Um with only a few goals and turnovers, the clock's been running very, very consistently without many stops. Defense by Ali. Trip picking it up. The the defense is is holding up really well. They're not getting beat by cutters and and times they've scored kind of on broken plays coming from around the net, but their their base defense has really been doing a good job. That's Kendall Westlyn doing a good job there. >> [cheering] >> Again, number six,
022Ava. So what is three for her? Three for Duxbury, two for Ashlyn with 34 seconds left, so I would say it's just as we expected. Tie game, you know, similar uh opponents, similar skill sets. Both of them are uh making their shots when they get them, but there haven't been a whole lot of shots, really. No call, yeah. >> three draw controls for for Duxbury. So that that's a bit of a concern. Uh obviously, you get the draw control, you get a possession, you get to shoot. There's a whistle. I'm not sure who it was called on. Clock stops with 13 seconds left. So, does the clock always stop? You know, sometimes it's running. So, is it more just cuz less than a minute? >> Yes, that's exactly right. Uh they don't want to Which
023makes sense, yeah. >> Yeah, ruin the opportunity there because then people would foul indiscriminately in the last minute. Wow, what a save by Duffy. Terrific save as 5 seconds left. Denver's going to have to hurry, and they Another save. Wow. As you mentioned, like her save percentage. I think she's at 50% right now. Three goals in, a few a few saves. >> Yeah. Two huge saves over there. Yeah, that that that's a big momentum builder, hopefully, for them. Had they let in a last-second goal in the end of the first quarter, that that that may have caused the shoulders to to drop a little bit when they had had lead and uh not been able to take care of the draw controls the last couple of times, so So, hop- hopefully, they'll be able to
024clean up on some of the turnovers and and again, get more shots. I'm not sure if their goalie had an opportunity to make the save. I think that the two shots that were taken that were on goal, both Both went in. >> Yep. Uh there there may have been one other, but sometimes it's hard to tell whether it reaches the goalie or not. >> Yeah. Couple turnovers on the offensive end, couple draws won by Denver. I think that's kind of the turning point right now. Um number six got to kind of shut down Ava. Um we have a 3-2 game over here. You know, let's uh take a quick break and hopefully uh hear from our sponsor, Townhouse Pizza. And then we'll Kevin and I will be back. Give me that pizza right now. >>
025Brought to you in part by Townhouse Pizza, subs, roast beef, and more. Be sure to fill up with the buffalo chicken calzone that's been called one of the best in the area. >> [music] >> All right. Again, thank you very much to for Townhouse Pizza for sponsoring again. Very involved with Townhouse over the fall, winter, and of course spring. So, we have a 3-2 game. We got Dedham three goals to Ashland's two goals. Vinnie and Ava have scored Vinnie on the Ashland side two goals and Ava number six on Dedham with two goals three goals, I'm sorry. So, Vinnie with two goals and Ava with three goals. 3-2 game over here. We got 30 seconds before next second quarter. So, I know you were Kevin you were just talking about making some of those adjustments
026on the defensive end and expectations for the second quarter. Yeah, well Ashland will be going left to right here. I don't know if there'll be any major adjustments. Certainly, I think coach Blasi will be talking about watching the crease roll particularly from number six Ava Landry. That's been effective for them a couple times. The defense though has has done a good job as they're matching up and preventing cutters and and so [music] more of that. And on the offensive end it's it's really about protecting the ball. Make making sure that you have the opportunity to get a shot off. The the ball is precious. >> Yeah. If you have it you can't give it away and you know it's a young team and and those there there going to be mistakes that happen, but minimizing
027them are is really the the key. Those unforced errors are the ones that you think about the next day not necessarily the the ones that are a physical play. Yeah, agree. Totally agree. Again, we got the 5 and 1 Dedham versus 3 and 3 Ashland. I think those records that mean these teams are pretty as even as it gets over here, so um Yep, it's obviously anyone's game. It's a one goal game. You've got 36 minutes of playing time left, so we'll see where it where it goes from here. I don't know if they'll change up the the draw circle at all. Maggie McGuinness has been taking them. That's number seven, Mary Kate Cronin, who is a junior for Dedham, taking it on their side. Uh other than the last three, they've been fairly even
028the the the draw controls, but uh certainly Dedham has some momentum the last the the last couple, so I know the the Clockers would like to grab this one and and hopefully do some some damage once they get it. Nice and high. Pay- Peyton comes away with it, Peyton strip, and quickly gets it to to Maggie McGuinness in the middle. So, she's going to do a little spin. She runs into a couple of players, uh gets it back, but sends it over, and that is one of those turnovers and unforced errors that we're we're talking about. I think she had uh she had uh Freese over there open and just sailed it over her head. But but here we go. Uh hate to sound like a broken record, but uh it the both teams are
029making similar types of mistakes. Same way the exact same way the first quarter started. Exactly right. With um draw one, turnover. Draw one, turnover. So, little Groundhog Day going on over here in Natick. >> That's right. Erin Hickey gets the ball off to Ally Marseglia, who's going to take it behind the net. She's going to survey the defense, see what she can do, off to Maggie McGuinness, and may see the ball go around the circle a time or two here trying to figure out what Dedham is giving them, hopefully be able to hit a cutter at some point. Early now has it. Now, she's going to head behind the net. Hitting a cut around the front and Lily Vitti buries it. Well done. The freshman uh Ali Early to uh I'm sorry, Leenie Early to
030Lily Vitti for her hat trick. Yeah. Great pass. Saw Vitti cutting in the middle and again, as you said, Vitti has a nice little hat trick over here. So, freshman Early to senior Vitti. So, little connection over there. Um what else is going on in Ashland before we get this off? So, you know, the boys were one and seven. They're playing at Dedham right now. Not sure what the score is, but hopefully they're doing some doing a little better. Uh baseball team is three and two. Softball team is six and one. Boys tennis one and four and girls tennis 0 and 5. So, that's a quick recap of the Ashland spring sports unless I missed a team. And we are back. >> Dedham with the draw control. Now they're moving up into the offensive zone.
031Should be a good match up over there. We have Ashley versus uh Ava. For Kelsie Murphy over number 12, that's Maddie Chew. Wow, that was Was that a good save or was that just Yeah. I don't know if it bounced over, but I'm going to say it's a save. >> Yeah. But again, to me, when you watch Duffy kind of play goalie, it's just the way she positions herself. Which you couldn't pay me any money to play goalie in lacrosse. But she doesn't care. Like the bruises. Good job getting low for that low shot, but then is able to get her stick up if it's a if it's a bounce shot and and try to knock it out, which is what looked like happened there. Defense over there. And once again, the the Ashland defense
032is doing a good job of keeping the Marauders out of the critical scoring area. Pushing them to the outside where can't do much damage. So, it looks like in isolation Sam Sayette is defending over there. To Alana's left. She's just waiting for a cutter. The cutters are are are being covered now. She puts a dodge on. Alana makes another save. >> Another nice save, yeah. So, once again defense did a good job once they finally got a shot. Alana was there to help out now. Alana clears it out to Ashley Forcer who is trucking up the field pushed out of bounds and stay Ashland's way. And she gets it off to Early and Early gets it into the offensive zone. Early one of our star volleyball players for the season, so >> Okay. Actually, that's
033where the connection between Early and Vitti is. Both of them are playing volleyball this season, so >> Yeah, makes sense. Got some soccer, field hockey, volleyball players, track, ice hockey, field hockey, a little bit of everything. >> stars, absolutely. Trip lost it momentarily, but able to collect it. Over to Marseglia. She lost it, but able to collect it from right back. Callahan to Hickey. Over to Vitti. Picked up by Maggie McGuinness. Nice shot by yeah. >> into the middle. Great pick, though. You know, that's part of the game over there. Yeah, works in basketball, works in lacrosse. So, Vitti with her number fourth goal, actually. >> Yeah, she's got them all for Ashland. So, that that was the the difference there after a long offensive possession for Dedham. They really got a shot off. Alana
034made the save. Same thing happened down the other end and Lilly Vining was able to to bury the shot. >> Yeah, find the crease down low. So Here we are. It's a one-goal game the other direction. Just just about four four minutes 15 seconds into the second quarter. So again, won't would be surprised if it's anything different than this the rest of the game. >> Agree. One, two goals. It's really again, as you mentioned, eliminating the turn turnovers as best you can and play good defense and get some shots on. Going up the middle over there. Good defensive play. Was that trip, I think? >> Yeah, I think she got her stick on it. Uh the the draw controls have been become a little bit of an issue. Dedham has has been winning the the
035majority of them of late. You know, what's nice for now is just Ashland sun, which in some of these games you can't see. It's actually doable right now. >> Yeah. I'm not quite sure if that was another one of the same type of thing that it bounced over or if Alana got her stick on it. I get I I get I'm obviously a little biased, but just the way I think Duffy plays her position, the team when they're shooting, they're it's it's it's tough. You know, she's getting down low. They got it They're They're trying to be strategic, but having a strong goalie like that It certainly makes it challenging. It makes the offense think that they have to be perfect on their shots when they know that there's a a keeper of her her
036ability there. And that means they're they're more likely to to go wide because they're trying to pick a a spot that may not be there. That one >> Just Well, you It's almost like you saw that coming over there. You You prepped that up right there. Yeah, well, I saw this game already. This is a [laughter] repeat. It's the whole Spaceballs. When will then be now? Soon. >> [snorts] >> Again, since I'm alone, well, they're they're starting to shoot more and they are um um I don't want to say they're being impatient, but they're they're certainly trying to get more shots and you know, whether that's a reflection of what they think they need to do to get one past Alana, I'm not sure. And you've coached how long how many years you coached Alana?
037Oh, 6 years, 7 years like >> like that. You know, through So, you know her pretty well. Yeah, you know, fifth to eighth grade I'm sorry, third to eighth grade something like that. >> Okay, so longer. Yeah, she she wasn't always a goalie, but uh she certainly took to it when she committed herself to it and obviously plays on the the on a club team as well and and and you can see how well versed she is. >> Yeah, you can tell she loves it, too. Love loves the position, so like many of the girls on this team. Both teams I should say. They might not be a little patient. >> They are being patient. >> Yeah. Another save. Yeah. Or another shot, so. Now, Mike, obviously your your daughter plays um at the college
038level. My understanding is there's a shot clock in college? There is. It's a 90-second shot clock from from the other end of the field. So, if your goalie makes a save, it's 90 seconds from there. So, I mean getting up the field is all part of the shot clock. >> Got it. Okay. Which I was talking to you um someone's dad. Um Oh, Dave Forster. He was saying that at one of the towns, maybe in New York, was testing out a shot clock in in uh one of the New York high school games. It has been discussed at various times at the high school level. Um I I don't necessarily think it would be a a bad idea, but you need someone who knows how to work a clock to do that. >> It's agree.
039I think that may be as big a challenge as as anything else. Just wiped it. >> Yeah, but still like it's I think a lot of us presence here is making a difference. We see Melanie on the free position shot that went wide. There's Ava trying to So, she's working through um You you could make a case that that is a charge. Um she is bulling her way through defenders who seem to have position. Not something that's called all that often, but I It certainly looked like that that could have been called. >> Got it. Okay. I actually didn't realize that on the offensive side you can be called for a charge as well, which makes sense. Otherwise, you're just going to knocking defenders down. And in that case she she did get through the
040two defenders, but they they looked like they had pretty solid position, but yet she kept forcing her way through. It's funny. Three of the four goals are that exact same play where she's kind of finding to the from left to right around the net and that's the only time they're scoring right now. The set offense hasn't done much. And and and that may have been a set play. It's hard to say, but when they've been working it around the perimeter they really haven't been popping any cutters open to to kind of spring someone, so it ends up in the hands of their their most skilled scorer and she's left to do whatever ever it is she can. >> Yeah. Yeah. So, 4-4 game. I'm guessing that was an Ashland timeout for their first timeout over
041there. We got 4 minutes left in the uh second quarter. Got uh April break. So, next girls lacrosse game is actually going to be um with tradition for the Red Sox on Patriots Day. It's going to be a morning game, 10:00 a.m. I believe WACA will be calling it. Kevin, you might be on the call as well. >> Yeah, I think so. >> So, um that's uh the 23rd, I believe. 23rd, Thursday the 23rd against I think Shrewsbury. Yeah. Should be a good game. >> One their the three out of league games that they have the schedule is shorter now for girls across the EMIA made a rule this year that it would be 18 games rather than 20. Okay. Which aligns with the number that the boys had. So, for some reason girls could
042have up to 20 games, boys only had up to 18. Now it's 18 for each. So, >> Okay. in the the Tri-Valley league they play each of the large teams twice. >> Twice. The small teams once, so that's 15 games and you've got three Yep. games you can schedule out of league. Although interestingly enough, Dedham one of their out of league games is actually playing I think it was Norwood a sec Norton a second time. >> It was like it was weird. It was >> Yep. wasn't a back-to-back, but it was a home game, another team, then another. I thought the schedule was wrong, but you don't see that very often. So, it's technically a league game, but it's not a mandated one cuz you only play the smalls once. >> I saw that as
043well. Okay. We're back. 4-4. Gillette with the win over Dedham. Okay, that that looked a lot better for Ashlyn there. Pulling it back, maybe that's what was being discussed over there on the sidelines. But I try to start making some more of those draw control wins and getting some more possessions. So, Callahan into the offensive zone off to Dedham trip. Ali probably going to the line. Yeah, that's Marsiglia to Hickey to Early. Little bobble, but able to collect it back. This little spin move, but the defender sticks with her. That defender is Kate Maturin. Not a whole lot of cutting I'm seeing here, folks. Yeah, it's like a another pick there. Fortunately, that was lost by Marseglia when trying to make a move and then collect it. Now, they're racing up the field. That's Brooke
044over there. Finds it up. Turnover by Denham. A lot of it's probably going to Good job by Alana. Collecting the ground ball on to Erin Hickey and she's got a little bit of space. I presume she turns and fires it before Right over the ref's head. >> Yeah, before Lanie was expecting it. She was able to to to grab it and Denham plays a little bit of high pressure, so they're they're pressuring out even near the the 30. A lot of times teams will pack it in a little bit. Uh fortunate that pass was intercepted, but let Maggie McGinnis get in >> Yeah, great job. >> open and put it in the back of the net. There's a couple things you probably don't want to do on the defense is leave Maggie open like that
045and Well, she executed it, so Yeah, you you go for that interception, which is great when you get there. When you don't it's kind of >> Yeah, it's high risk, so it's a the risk reward. >> Risk reward, yeah. And it it wasn't missed by much. Nope. But, uh number five over here, first goal for Maggie McGinnis. So, Maggie's like, you know, Vinnie can't get all the goals, so Maggie scoring her first goal today. Many goals. I know she had a few against uh I think Holliston. Sorry to call. Yeah, she's looking more and more comfortable coming back from her injury. Past, she would be playing midfield, but still at the attack position. Hopefully, later in the season she'll she'll be back to Yeah, she's she's playing midfield. She's played midfield so far the whole
046game, but good to see her back. Let's see. Oh, good defense over there by Ashlyn. Ashley Forster doing a good job there and uh That to me is a fun match up, Ashley versus Ava. Yeah, aggressive kids and young adults. Yeah, I clearly coach Blasi wanted Forster back there on defense with a couple of regular defenders out to stabilize, maybe call out things, and being vocal. Uh the the other players may not have that confidence to to be calling things out where Ashlyn Ashley has been a defender for >> [screaming] >> years. >> Three years, yeah. Both Forster girls, I think her older sister was a defender, right? >> Correct. That was a good stick by Ashley there. Okay, so I I'm a little surprised by that. Ashley got her stick on it. I don't
047know if they called a foul or if it was shooting space, not quite sure, but Clock is running about 50 seconds. >> Shot, what an amazing save by Olssonik. >> Olssonik. Um just spectacular. Hopefully Ashlyn can get the ball back, but once again Honestly, that's a shot you you're glad that WSCA is actually doing the game where Alanna can rewatch that. That was pretty impressive. >> Yeah, I'm I'm sure she will. That was That's one we're going to show on Huddle and uh great save. Is that a face card? Yeah, that was over the head. >> head, okay. >> on on Duffy. >> That's a penalty, I guess. Yeah, there you Yeah. Clock is stopped with 17 seconds left. So what's the difference between a green or a yellow card or are they are they
048the same? So uh You usually see yellow, not a green, or does it matter? That is a yellow uh did they He did a green, but she's out of the game, so I don't >> Yeah, I'm not sure. Maybe they just changed their mind. >> Okay. All right. Um 10 seconds left, I'm guessing Duffy's just going to kind of hold the ball. You know, being so far away from the goal, the chances of you scoring versus them scoring, I think this is a wise decision to hold on to it, play for the second half. Yeah. So we have a 5-4 game. Ashlyn was up 3-2 in the uh end of the first. We have a 5-4 game. So tie game over here. So I know we expected a tie game between both these. Any quick
049first half reflections before we take a quick break over here? From yourself? Um I I I like that we we said we think it's going to be a close game and and what are we getting? It makes us look smart. >> I love it. I'm not sure we are, but I mean we'll take it. >> Yep. So we'll go ahead and take a break. Jamie Tripp is going to join Kevin McGuinness for the second half action, but uh couple quick things. One, want to again thank our crew. Didn't really see who was here. I know Jeff, Luis, Brady was here as well. Again, incredible crew. He's been doing this all year round. If you are interested in working the cameras, working the uh operations, working the mics, definitely uh reach out to WACA. I know
050we have a couple of young students doing the baseball games, so definitely would love to have more and more folks um getting involved. Um Kevin, first time you and I were doing this, so this was fun. I enjoyed it. >> Hopefully get Hopefully get Hopefully get another game. Maybe we can get you for uh I know Maggie also plays soccer. So Yeah, I know as a as a dad you want to kind of enjoy the game, but maybe we'll get you on the call for soccer in addition to all your lacrosse insights and um yeah, we're going to take a quick break here from our sponsor and then Jamie and Kevin will take care of the second half. So 5-4 Ashland. Give me that pizza right now. >> Brought to you in part by Townhouse.
051Pizza, subs, roast beef and more. Be sure to fill up on the buffalo chicken calzone that's been called one of the best in the area. >> [music] [music] >> Mhm. >> Hey! Hey! Go! Go! >> [music] [music] >> Go! Go! >> [music] >> Hey! Hey! Go! Go! >> That's 4 goals for Dedham and 0 for the Marauders. 12 minutes on the clock as Ashlyn from right to left the score remains 4-0 on the draw. Welcome to the booth, Jamie Tripp. Thank you for having me, Kevin. Just got back from a delicious sub at Town House Pizza. I was running a little late, so Yeah, I know. >> Had the chicken parm, it's delicious. Highly recommend. Steak and cheese calzone is what I like. >> Oh, yeah. It's good, too. Nice of them to support the
052high school athletics by being a sponsor. So, thank you to them. And for the sub, it was delicious. Draw controls haven't really been going Ashlyn's way. I would say that the majority have gone to the Marauders. Something that Ashlyn's going to hopefully clean up as the second half goes along. From what I saw in the first half, yeah, there's a couple players on Dedham that are obviously the the go-to for scoring. Number six, Dynamite Jr. Um Ava Landry, she's got three four goals already, so um I I Ashlyn's got their feet kind of in concrete, looks like, on offense for a bit, kind of waiting for somebody to do something. I think that's part of the younger roster today on the offensive end. But Yeah, and also another one for number six. That is all
053of them. Yes. And very similar move, though. The They are and coming from her around the back in the net. And we when Brian was here in the booth, we did talk about it. It's a little bit different lineup than Ashlin normally is putting out there. Ashlin Forester had been playing defense for much of the first half. Looks like she's back on the midi circle now. So, we'll see if that's changed up, but it's a almost a completely different set of defenders that are out there at this point. Good check by Ashlin. Hopefully Massaglia comes up with this good. Nice. Okay, she did a good job getting out of there. That's Julia Fries taking the ball up the field. Julia's a good surprise this year. I love her aggressiveness on defense. Always trying to pick
054off those balls which is good. Yeah, she has done a really good job of that. I think she's leading the team in caused turnovers. That one went a little high, but again, Ashlin was there to collect it and Let's see if they start moving their feet here. Love to see some picks and rolls and some cuts. There's a good one. There we go. Ooh, kick save from U. Good save by the keeper. That was a a very good look from Trip to Vitti. Unfortunately, the Unfortunately for Ashlin, the keeper did a good job, but Erin Hickey gets the ball right back and Erin stuck in the corner there. Hopefully, she can spin out of this. Yeah, that that's >> Some help from Maggie. a high pressure Dedham defense there. They're they're defending way out instead
055of just packing it in. That that one's going to be called. I'm sure it'll be a a free shot or No, she wasn't quite there yet, I don't think. Put her back behind the line. Look at a wide open Ashlin Forester for the goal. Excellent. So, we we talked a moment ago waiting for them to start moving a little bit. That was a great example of it. Ashlin had been playing midfield for the early part of the season. She was on defense. Now, she just moved up to midfield and there she is cutting right through the middle. Maggie against was able to hit her. And Ashlyn back on top, 6 to 5. It's going to be a close one, Kev. Yeah. It's back and forth here. If they can If they can really double team
056or or or just stop number six, uh they may have a better chance here. Ava Landry just lighting up. Yeah. >> Goal. She's got that high to low, high fake, low shot happening. Lana's made a bunch of saves on her, but you Now we know who was scoring the goals. Hopefully coach will make some adjustments here. Yeah, so far this game hasn't ever been more than a one-goal lead. It's back and forth, as you say. There's multiple ties and no no team has been able to get up by more than one through throughout the contest. Julia Freeze trying to get that ball from number six again, Ava. Trying to master high pressure here. Looks good. Nice check by Julia. Cali Brennan getting defense. Don't get beat. There it is again, right that that that curl,
057but forcing herself almost. It's almost like a charge. It's getting close. >> Yeah. There There's something I discussed with Brian in the first half. There There was a circumstance where it certainly looked like she was initiating contact. >> Mhm. But well, good for her. If If they're not going to call it, then do it. These refs This This one ref in particular I see down there usually calls pretty tight game. So, I'm I'm surprised that she hasn't been calling more. Maybe she's just kind of I don't know. knows knows they're in for a bruiser game and letting them play. So, if you're going to If they're going to allow it, then do it. That's what I would say. And uh does does pretty good job of uh pressuring, trying to get up the field. That
058was a nice spin by Julia. >> by Julia. Upside-down stick. Very good. Passes it off to Ava Ally My Segley. Now, because of their high pressure, they were Wide open. behind the play and as I was going to say, there there's an opportunity there. Oh, Maggie. You know, once you got past them, they didn't have many defenders back and and it could have been a jailbreak. Unfortunately, that's uh See too many opportunities for fast breaks and they slow it down, which is is crazy to me when you have numbers to to not want to take advantage of that mismatch, but um you know, you got to let those middies get back, take a breather before they get completely exhausted. I would think coach would want to put a put a mismatch there on uh on
059number six and start to put more of a season defender on her to kind of I don't know if they don't really have too many right now besides Kendall. >> honestly they they really don't. Uh the whole starting defensive crew is a little bit different than than what normally would be in a game at this point. Yeah, Sammy Tsai has been a pleasant surprise today. She's been playing pretty good, so she's Yeah, they they've been playing well. It's it's more of the experience than the uh ability or or what they've shown. >> Mhm. Kendall in the corner, she get the call? Yep, she did. Good job, Kendall. Kendall Westling solid defender She's come a long way in a year, that's for sure. Yeah, she's continuing to improve. That just as we said it. Oh, Jesus.
060Who was that? Sammy. Sam Tsai it. Going through like a wrecking ball there. It's 50/50 ball, I guess. You got to go for it, right? Oh, they gave a penalty. Yeah. Yep, that's uh going to be Ashton Ball. Oh, nope. She's staying on the field. Okay. Back to goalie, Sam. There you go, Sam. Smart play. I like the look from the top of the booth here. It's a lot better than sitting in the bleachers. Get to see the game a little bit better. Oh, Julia tried to switch to her left hand. Unfortunately, dropped it. She's out of bounds. Good job, Julia. Way to stick with it. Once again, those dead-on attackers are all over the Ashland defenders trying to get up the field. Um They're uh they are riding hard, man. That is a >>
061they sure are. Far side. So, up the middle. Someone's got to move here. There we go. Peyton coming back over to the restraining line trying to get some attention of her. Ashley going to go with the long ball. Nice Magner Guiness with it. It's all foot race now. Come on, Maggie. They got back on defense. They are not on a fast break situation. Peyton come through the middle. Even with that the injury, she might have been able to separate a little bit more, but >> Yeah. not not with the knee brace, but just just getting clear at that point was Yeah. You know, I love to see a couple of these goals today have been on that second cutter we always talk about. The first cutter is great, but when you fill that void as
062a second cutter, you're always going to be open. And I think I saw two two goals today from that situation, so good for them for recognizing that second cutter and waiting and pulling that ball. Yeah, it's a good feed by Peyton Trip. And a goal, but That's one of my least favorite rules. Who was who was shooting space in that situation though? I see. She had beat her player. She only had the goalie. There was nobody there to beat in the shooting space. Anyways, love lacrosse. Why that the the offending team gets a reprieve when the goal went in is beyond me. And there there you have it. So, Unbelievable. Well, at least they got a Caroline picked up that last shot. Maggie cutting through wide open down the middle. Nice goal by Maggie McGuinness.
063How many has Maggie got today? Four? Five? No, that's her second today. Lilly had the first four. >> Oh, okay. Uh I believe that pass came from Celia Callahan, if I'm not mistaken. Uh was Celia Callahan out of bounds to somebody else to Maggie. Okay. But Well, if we had replay Yeah, only if we had replay. Well, whoever passed it >> Well, I'm sure Watchus is pulling it up right now. We just can't see it. They're definitely They're good like that. >> So, this is maybe the first time that there's been more than a one goal lead for either team. 7 to 5 with 4:51 left to go in the third quarter. >> Come on, Ashley. Nice work. >> does a good job with the draw control there. And it's been a while since we
064had won one. Yep. I'd like to see the seniors stepping up last couple games doing, you know, taking charge, going to the goal, making things happen. It's kind of the first couple games of the season we'd recognize, you know, really just everyone kind of sitting around waiting for someone to do something and you got to put on those seniors, those upperclassmen that have been around and know what to do it. We've got a fast break opportunity for for Detom. Julia and Chase Amy side and Chase. Got to collapse on that Sam. There you go. Good job. Brooke Marino Ooh. She dropped the ball. Let's get it back to the goalie. Ooh, I thought that was going to be a cover. >> I thought for sure it was a cover, but Can't put your stick on
065top of that ball if it's uh There's Alana Gonsalves deep again. That that bounce is going to be tough. You got it. If you let that one bounce Ooh, it worked out, I guess. >> I I take that back. She played it perfectly. >> All right, when those those balls bounce off that turf, that can really You got to go for a wide >> You got to get that You got to go get that ball for it bounces, especially the second bounce could be the worst. Is that a That's a a red ball, okay. Love to see Erin Hickey get one on the on the board to add to this sooner than later. Peyton Trip on the ride joined by Lilly Viti. Laney Early trying to slow her down. She is out of bounds, I
066think. I don't think really. Couple of whistles there. >> Referee is talking to somebody about something. That looked clean to me, Kevin. I thought a lot of sticks were vertical. There wasn't a lot of cross checking going on there. It has been physical. I mean, the the rides have been allowed to be physical. So, that that one little surprising, but They play on. Ashley >> Nice job, Ashley Forster, getting back. Making a great play. That was really well done, but the caused turnover there by Ashley now back to Alana, and once again looking for someone to spring open. I'm a big fan of the long ball, Kev. It has worked twice, and you know, if we can get that ball over the defense, why not go for it? Like in this situation right now, Payton
067is wide open. Payton should be going. Oh, she should have kept going the other way. Oh. It worked out, I guess. Very accurate throw there by Alana to Lilly Vitti. Alana has just been a rock this season back there. She's making great saves, making good passes, great breakouts. Yeah, her save percentage is up to coming into the today was 55%, which is just For a lacrosse goalie, that is a wild number. >> That is outstanding. >> Hey, college scouts, get ready. Get that Get their Get the uh highlight reel going cuz she's going to have a probably plenty offers once uh the season's up. Yeah, she's coming coming up on 400 saves. Uh perhaps she even got a tay already. I don't know what the milestone is for goalies. Is it Is it 500, 1,000,
068100? I know she celebrated 100 Yeah, I I think >> last year, but um at some point last year, and I don't know what the next one is, but Every 100 they they do talk about. On Julia. This clear my net um ended up being successful. Didn't Didn't really look pretty. Caroline Brennan Camp trying to get that ball picked up. Nice job. Right over to Kendall. So, You You can see the the inexperience a little bit of the actual defenders. They're a little bit afraid. They want to get rid of the ball as quickly as possible. And sometimes that leads to to passes that might be a little bit difficult. Here is So, Maggie going to rip one. No, she dishes it off. Nice shot. Here we go. Fast break. Textbook, Kevin. Textbook. That was
069great. Yeah, that worked out well. >> on a three is working it through the middle. Up to uh get it up to Maggie like that. Certainly looked like Maggie had a shot, but she recognized the better shot was for her to pass it to to Lily and Fast break's all about drive drawing the defense in. Right, Kev? Get that defender to bite and then that's when you can dish off the open person. So, textbook uh fast break play by Ashland there. Goal number five on the day for Lily Vitti. Assist number two for Maggie McGinness in addition to two goals. She's got to be close to 100, I think, by now. How many did she get last game? Probably the same number, right? So, she's got to be close to getting 100 goals. I know
070she has 100 points, but Yeah, she she'll be getting to 100 points in the next week or so. I think that's probably point 90 or so. We still have 12 minutes and 30 seconds left of this game. So, let's see what Erin Hickey, nice pass over to Lily. Lily's going to take it to X looking for someone to be cut in the middle. Let's open up that offense. See what Maggie can do here. 18 seconds left. Yeah. Draw and dump's not there. I think I would try to hold this for another few seconds to avoid giving Duxbury a chance, but at this point I think it'd be highly unlikely that they could get down the field and Well, stranger things have happened, Kevin. That's for sure. >> Ashland does have a history of giving up
071last second goals, I would have to say. I've heard that as well. Um So, once again we see the Ashland girls wearing their purple ribbons in honor of their friend and former teammate Morgan Banowitz in her battle with lymphoma. I think Morgan is coming up on her last chemotherapy and is handling it all like a champion. The girls wear purple in there the ribbons in their hair, which is the the color for that particular type of cancer, as well as Morgan's favorite color. And they also have stickers on their sticks with her initials on it. So, shout out to Morgan and her whole family and just know we're all thinking of you. Most definitely, great kid. Yeah, absolutely. Take a look ahead, Kevin. We got Next week is vacation week, but we do have a
072game at Shrewsbury. Usually play them pretty tough every year. This is I believe a home game for us versus going to Shrewsbury, which is nice. And then the week after, we get some time off. It looks like No, here we go. We got Westwood, Grafton, and Norton. So, Westwood, Grafton back-to-back is going to be tough. A tough schedule, for sure. >> Westwood is always tough. Grafton, last year I think Grafton beat Ashland in Grafton. Year before, Ashland was able to win here. Uh I think that from what I understand, Grafton's been having a good year. They beat I think East Longmeadow Wow. >> uh recently. East Longmeadow usually has a very strong team. So, it it it will be a tough stretch and That's for sure. I mean, that's right after that you're going to
073be jumping into West Springfield, which is going to be a haul to get there and and also a good game. And you have to follow up with May with Medway and uh Medway, Hopkinton, Norwood again. Big TVL push there at the end of the season, so. Yeah, those the non-league games tend to be in the middle, like Grafton, like Shrewsbury, like West Springfield. And then the the final third of the season is just in the the league games, so. What are we looking like, Kevin, to we up here for the for the uh points on the board? How many goals who's got what here today? So we've got eight goals on the board for Ashlyn, five by Lily Vitti, two by Maggie McGuinness, one by Ashley Forrester, Payton Tripp with a couple of assists, Maggie
074McGuinness with a couple of assists, Laney Early with an assist, and then our mystery assist either Celia Callahan or maybe it was Ali Marseglia. Somebody with a a very nice pass in that situation. For Dedham, according to my count, all five goals have been scored by number six Avery Landry, who is a junior >> The Avery Avery Landry show here at the Plateau today. She has been faking high, going low, and it's been working for her. So hopefully Alana catches on, but she has made a bunch of stops on that, but >> [screaming] >> should be a good fourth quarter. It's going to be down to the wire for sure. So we've got uh Ashley back on the on the draw, Lily on the circle. She has a I'm not surprised that's a a little
075bit of a change. It hadn't been working out particularly well. Now uh this one is to to Dedham as well, but sometimes just a little bit of a change might end up working. You know what I've been shocked about today, Kevin, is seeing the behind the the the the the stick check from behind, which usually isn't allowed very often by the referees, but today we've seen a bunch of them. So maybe they're doing them correctly this year where you're you're checking down and away from behind is legal versus just tomahawking from behind trying to get that stick, but it's been successful a couple times. The aggressiveness of that check is what happens. That was Avery Landry again circling around the net getting the shot off. I don't know if it reached Alana. But Kendall Westerlund
076>> Aaron's got to go here. Aaron's got to go. On the way, Westerlund. Let's go, Kendall. Take it to, kid. She just drew her defender and it looked like Aaron might have been able to streak in, but takes it behind the net. Uh with a three-goal lead Not not forcing it isn't the the worst decision in the world, but >> it's it's just in that in that situation a great instinct would be to go to the other side of the field allowing the other attacker to cut across and be open. And I don't know if that's not part of the game plan with with coach or not, but that's something that's uh pretty obvious, so Allie Marseglia for the shot and the goal! Assist from Ashley Forrester. We're going to give that one Kendra Wessel
077a pat on the back to get it there, too. It was and that was another situation where with a high-pressure defense Dedham went for the turnover, couldn't quite get it, and that opened things up, so Nice nice job by Forrester to collect the ball after the defender went by and then to hit the streaking Marseglia for a 9-5 lead where just a few minutes ago we're saying it hadn't ever been more than a one-goal lead. Ashlyn has scored the last four, I believe. Ashley again on the draw to Lily. Nice direct draw right to Lily Vitti. Lily's probably going to bring it to X here. Oops, she's puts a brakes on. See if we can get something going on the offense again. Love to see some pick and rolls and broad and dumps. Some ISO.
078Love to see Aaron just take it to the hole, too. Yeah, some some good Take a page out of uh the the Dedham playbook and just crease roll, see what you get. >> Mhm. Doesn't work, pull it back, or maybe have a a cutter coming through even if you get Hold on. Be good for uh you know, these younger players they just I don't think they know yet, but you know, when you when you drive to the net and you draw the defender, you back off just a little bit and that opens up the space behind that defender for someone to cut through, so it's going to come in time. Some of the young players. There's Aaron Hickey for the goal. Come on, Aaron. Good cut. Tough pass. Yeah, so that was a Good check
079by Maggie McGinness. Maggie McGinness again. It's going to be a white ball. >> [cheering] >> Tenacious defense. Not even across the face, right right down on the stick. >> I know she'll remember to step in. Some somebody yells from the sidelines every time, "Step in, Bones." I noticed that Dedham had a tough time with the lines at the beginning of the game. Everyone does, it's not easy. Julia Freese some wheels on her. Just a freshman, looking good, poised, got good hands. Yeah, uh She makes good decisions, you know. Yeah, it was a good play by her to keep possession and and just wait. Maggie knew to hold for her, and now Julia goes back to her position. She's She's been doing an excellent job. A lot of caused turnovers for Julia Freese so far this
080season. Oh, tough one. She got checked as she passed that one, but it's going to be a Dedham ball coming in back up. Probably going to Hopefully get on the ride here. Celia Callahan and Aaron hopefully going to slow this down for us. And she's got to get inbounds first, but That That may have been a circumstance where jumping in front of the ball letting it bounce off you when you're not being covered too closely would have been easier than to stop with the stick. That's just a difficult thing to do. 12 has got some wheels. Ashley Forrester and Chase and Sammy Sayed. Senior captain for Dedham. Ball's behind. You got Kenda Westland. Going to slow her down is job. Didn't extend her arms, so that was a good clean defensive play. Oof. Just missed
081the net there on that shot. Good defense, good slide by I think Julia and Payton kind of tag team that one. Coming in from behind here. Brian and I spoke in the first half about how Alana being so dominant in the the goal means that the Marauders know they have to pick a corner. And And that that makes it harder to do. You're not just getting it on net will not be good enough. Again, a pretty solid force there by number six, but not getting the call. Ashland uh can't force her way through two players. Yeah, well, this time it is Ashland ball uh out to Peyton Trip picking it up. Up to Really? the very short Megan McGuinness. Dedham picks it up. Peyton gets a stick on it. Going to be Dedham ball coming
082in at the 30. Lilly coming back on the ride, like to see that. She's got tough one there. That's a great That's a great dodge there come through the middle. There's a good check by Julia Freeze. >> We got to call that girl for something. She's just getting a lot here. The swarm of locusts have showed up, Kevin. >> Yeah, the The bugs are out. I swear I showered today. Okay, looks like man advantage for Ashland as number six Avery Landry goes out for two minutes and that's beneficial for Ashland for a couple reasons. Obviously, the man advantage. They're taking out their best scorer and for two of the remaining seven minutes, you're you're going to be a man up. Now, almost gave the ball right away, but fortunate to So important >> back. So
083important in these man up situations to be be cautious with the ball. Wait. Don't force anything cuz once you lose that ball, they're just going to run that two minutes down. And have a chance to set up our offense here. Oh, yeah, there we go. That was a fast, quick goal. Yeah, they they were a man down anyway, so I don't I Still locked in. I'm counting I was counting seven down there. Didn't matter. They were offsides, is what you're saying? I think they were offsides. >> Yeah, I can tell right now. They tell you they are. Cuz got one We got three defenders, so So, that was Celia Callahan on the goal from Lilly Vitti. Okay. Nice pass. Way to recognize that she's wide open down the middle. I was busy trying to count
084defenders, so I missed most of the play. Well, now we know. We're going to have to hire spotters for us up here. I've heard that Sharon McGinnis is really good at calling games, too. She was going to get up here. She's calling out cutters earlier and some checking. She She yelled at the ref twice. She likes to say things like go sports. >> Yes. She's always She's a great locker room just great great bleacher addition. Uh and we know if the Marotta goalie comes out of the crease, we will hear her checker. 10-5 Ashlyn, 6 minutes 15 seconds left. A minute and 15 left on that penalty. We got to get this ball back. We should be doubling this ball cuz we got one more player than them. There you go. Kendall getting aggressive. I
085like it. Somebody should be getting more aggressive here. Let's all start sliding. Oh, we can't let them score on them. Man up. Payton did a good job. Nice. Taffy got down on all fours there to try to stop that one. We got to get this ball back, girls. Come on. Get aggressive. Double it. Come on, Sammy. Slide over, Sammy. It was good job once again by Kendall with pressure without extending her arms and just forcing the the player away from the critical scoring area. Shooting space on somebody. All right there. That was Kelsey Murphy Clinton breaking through the defense, a sophomore. And she'll be getting a free shot to goal and right around the time that the penalty expires. >> Evil Andrew will be coming back in in 12 seconds, so let's see if the
086can come up with the save on this one. Ooh, got a piece of it and snuck in. Yeah. Tough bounce. She She was there. Uh she just some sometimes it Sneaks on through. Yeah, it's unfortunate, but you know what? Got our patented times 5-minute timeout by the Ashland coaches. It's between 7 and 5, somewhere in there they usually call timeout. >> It makes the score 10 to 6 now. 5 minutes left. From an Ashland perspective, they should be confident so far in the game, 43 minutes in, that Emma's only been able to come up with six goals. Yeah. So, seemingly for 5 minutes you should be able to prevent them from getting on any quick runs, but >> so. Um that is certainly what the coach is talking about now. This is a very short
087bench they have today. I think they only have three substitutes, so there hasn't been a whole lot of substituting in and out. So, I think she just wants to make sure that they all have an opportunity to grab a drink of water and quick breath. Maybe some Townhouse Pizza might help them refuel while they're over there on the sidelines. To uh I know that would work for me. >> goals. I know. I I tell you I I accidentally found a Townhouse Pizza in down in the booth and tried a slice. I know it wasn't mine. I apologize to the crew, but I I had a piece of pizza. >> I think that was from our friends at Townhouse. It was delicious. Yep. It was delicious. So, thank you, Town. Okay, very good. >> Okay. Give
088me that pizza right now. >> Brought to you in part by Townhouse Pizza, subs, roast beef, and more. Be sure to fill up with the buffalo chicken calzone that's been called one of the best in the area. >> [music] >> Again, thanks to Townhouse Pizza for sponsoring the Ashland sports programs. Great to have these sponsors in town, local businesses throwing money at at these teams to help them have a great season. So, appreciate Townhouse Pizza. Thank you. And their product. Love it. Yes. So, we got 10 to 6 here, Kev. 5 minutes left. We now are back to even. Unfortunately, Dedham got a chance to put a free shot to goal with a couple seconds left [music] on the penalty. So, they did get a man-down goal, which is unfortunate, but Each Each team scored
089on that man-down situation. Ashton scoring without the benefit of the man down because the offsides, but once again, didn't really matter. So, Kevin, I can't wait till we're retired and and referees. It's going to be amazing. We're going to be the best team tag team referees up there hobbling along. Follow zone though, Kevin is more fit than me. So, it's probably going to be me hobbling. He's going to be sprinting up and down the field. We'll just see about that. >> Yeah. Peyton Trip working around yelled right on the hands by number four. Peyton didn't like that. No one's cutting. Yeah, that stinks. Good Peyton. Just pretty much shooting space, but just like going to call it. Let's see how >> left you wide open. The cut through there. Let's see how aggressive they're going
090to be here. I think they're be a little more comfortable with it in the hands of their upperclassmen here. Making the hopefully the right decisions, not forcing anything, being patient, but if there's a cutter wide open or a lane, taking it. Like right here. Nope, they got Lily. Okay, so that At least stopped cutting. She got bumped by the defender and then stopped. Unfortunately, Peyton gave her a pass that wasn't there. There you go. Ali Massagli has picked it off. Oh, bounced off. Number seven is going up the field with it now. Mary Kate Cronin. Wide open down the middle there. Got Yuwa Momah in the game today. >> Okay. Got called up from JV this morning. Good for her getting her first varsity action. Some minutes in. Well, she made a nice play there.
091She She got back and prevented a nice easy shot, so good for her. Yes. Celia Callahan getting wrecked there. That's a little bit of a again, I think Ashlyn would prefer having the ball in Ashley Forrester's hands or Payton Trips' hands or Lilly Vitti, Megan McGinnis, the girls who've been around for a little while. Beautiful cut by Maggie. Nice pass, too. And she got hammered, too. That was on the on the foul. These refs don't care today, I guess. Julia trying to come up with it. Nope, Kendall does. Keep that stick up, Kendall. Keep that stick up. Geez Louise. Gettem is out for blood here, getting that ball back. And then we got 3 minutes left to try to put some balls in the net. Let's be smart with it here. >> of girls shaking
092off uh bumps and bruises right now, from the looks of it. Can see Maggie still moving. Yeah, I don't know if she was feeling rug burn she was feeling or I think we should just hold this ball for 2 and 1/2 minutes, Kev. What do you think? >> that would be just fine. Maybe a little too early to start thinking about margins of victory for the power rankings, but it it does eventually make a difference. Um but yeah, I hear you. In a circumstance like that, probably you would behoove them to check the ball a little bit. Duffy should be doing nothing with the ball when you're up by four with 2 minutes left. Here she comes. Yua, a nice check from behind. Duffy with a huge save. That was a great stop. Uh Numbers,
093whoop. All that adrenaline must have got to her on the throw. Also, uh shout out again to Yua for a nice defensive play. It looked like uh Avery Landers going in alone, and Yua did a good job. >> Oh. Another good slide by Yua, just a little she's got the shot off. Almost picked off by Duffy there, nice. 10 to 7 Kevin, 10 to 7. Let's win this draw and hold on to the ball, man. It's all about possession at this point. 1 1/2 minutes left, 10 to 7, we're up by 3. Ashley on the draw, Payton on the circle, Lily Vitti on the circle. Let's see if we can do it. Minute minute and 40. Yeah, yeah, I think you're right. If you get possession, just take it into the offensive zone, they'll be
094playing really high pressure. They've played high high pressure all day. They've been very aggressive all day. This time they'll be really trying to cause a turnover and get the ball. Come on, Lil. Get there, Lily. Nice, we're getting the body in the way, nice box out. Nice job, 13. >> That was Let's control this ball. Let's control the ball, wait. Take it easy, Payton. Payton dribbles the ball, coming into the zone here, over the restraining line. Ashley back down to Elaine Early. Okay, so Elaine goes up to Maggie. Well, Lily was wide open there. So, with a defender right on her, I'm not sure if they the lane to get the pass off was there. Maggie being patient and smart with the ball. With 1 minute left. No need to do anything besides hold that
095ball, Maggie. There you go, good job. She keeps trying to drive. Payton, nice nice cut, Payton. Hey, Payton Trip on the board today. 42 seconds left, 11 to 7. Nobody was expecting that. She missed her defender and walked right in. I think that was a result of the high pressure defense again, doing anything they could in their power to try to get the ball. When it didn't happen, left a wide open lane, so back to that four-goal lead that it was just a moment or two ago. Actually Forrester on the draw again against number seven Mary Kate Cronin. Actually had it there for a minute. She did. Aggressive cradle kind of threw out of her stick. Allie Marseglia with feet. Nice check by >> [screaming] >> Gustellis same side in the turn. They are letting
096those checks go today, man. Those are pretty aggressive checks today. What is that called, sir? Shooting space from neck to the net? I don't know if it was shooting space or three seconds, was it? I'm I'm not quite sure what they're calling there. Clock stops with 18 seconds left. Yeah, that might have been three seconds in >> So Zio wasn't really on anybody. >> Yep. Okay. Oh, nice pass looking up. Oh, Duffy with a beautiful save. 10 seconds left in the game. That's a big one. She turns and looks at the clock. She knows exactly what to do here. She just steps out of the crease and she's going to enjoy watching the clock tick down >> [applause] >> to 11-7 victory for Ashlin over Dedham. Moves their record to four and three on the
097year. First time over 500. Dedham will drop to five and two. And all important victory for Ashlin. Particularly when they're short-handed. So, good for them playing without three normal starters and still able to come away with the victory. Great game today. Good big day for Ashlin Lacrosse. Boys won 12-3. Girls won 11-7. So, special thanks to Town Hall Pizza for some delicious food today. Go check them out. Buy some food from them cuz they're great sponsors. We appreciate them. And Kevin, great job today as usual. You're you're amazing at this. I'm absolutely looking forward to next time. All right. Thank you. >> Until then. Good night. >> Oh, yeah. Give me that pizza right now. >> Brought to you in part by Town House. Pizza, subs, roast beef and more. Be sure to fill up
098on the buffalo chicken calzone that's been called one of the best in the area.
