[Music] mr brooks here mr here mr johnston here mr lynch mr goleski here item two uh approval and meeting minutes recommend approve the attached meeting minutes for september 9 and september 7. a second i want favorite to approve the minutes say all right aye motion approved i don't believe we have a student delegation representative or a teachers association representative so we're going to move into registered citizens comments mr tim frye good evening i'm tim frye i've been a taxpayer since 97 paylock taxes in school i want to talk to you about these masks last year i put up with a bunch of crap because it was mass my daughter's six-year-old daughter got a lung infection over his past my oldest daughter it's 10 she she came close to a lung infection because she was happy
at the end of the year and i know we could breathe and stuff you know yet you know you say these mass work because you're you're man-made but i can fart right here through a pair of boxes and a pair of pants and you're going to tell me you can't smell them you're badly mistaken and this china virus is a lot smaller so whoever says the mass work are a bunch of lockers 70 of the people that stop this china virus right now has already got your vaccine so the vaccines aren't even [Music] i've only this is my third time ever being at a school board i was here at seventh the last month um some words got exchanged here uh the ninth he all sat up here and whined and find about being called
what did the gentleman say a bunch of cowards he called you there's only one word for you it's a coward i mean you took it to the point where i thought you weren't going to mandate these masks because it's unlawful it goes against our constitution and our kids is not only you're violating our constitution you're violating hipaa for asking for a doctor's excuse that's against hip-hop so i don't know where you get off you know with these masks but it's it's wrong these kids gotta breathe i think my consumers my kids went to school the first day and then they come home and said oh we gotta wear masks i yank my kids i'm still paying taxes though but i just paid twenty one hundred dollars through rebecca to homeschool my kids and they will
never see another day of public school because i'm tired of it you know a lot of people that i've spoken with over the last month they all said why don't i run for school or to be on a school board i don't want to be in your spot but if i didn't want to be in this spot there's only one position i'd run for that's the president's sponsor because none of you have the gonads to go forward with this you know you sit here worrying about the lawsuit against uh uh from name um wolf what you ought to be worried about is the lawsuit against the people the taxpayers here because petitions are getting signed there's hundreds of people that's going to join this lawsuit and i've already got an attorney so it's the office
call i mean our kids got to breathe plain and simple i don't wear a mascot when we were masking out one time since it started never been checked for the virus remember we'll be checked never will get to shop not neither will none of my kids so that's all i pretty much had to tell you all so i'm done thank you thank you [Applause] uh mr dan healy good evening ladies and gentlemen in regard to policy 903 public participation in board meetings the restriction of applicable public comment to two minutes is not reasonable a cogent argument cannot be presented clearly in this small amount of time please consider revisiting this to assure citizens comments are not stifled in regard to the combination of proposed policy 105.4 with existing policy 119 current events and controversial issues
under the heading of definitions a further explanation of divisive concepts should be considered and should be implemented this explanation should include the tenants of critical race theory the 1619 project and black lives matter agenda shall not be taught also in regards to this policy please do not be swayed by counsel in regards to first amendment implications of restricting teachers rights to free speech if you ask a room full of lawyers their opinion on a legal matter you would receive a wide range of answers and all of them would be able to cite case law in support of their positions please be mindful that lawyer legislators in at least 20 states are drafting similar restraints on these divisive topics i'm paraphrasing a quote from richard fosse professor of ed law at university of louisiana teachers do
not really have any academic freedom in the classroom quoting susan eckes education professor at indiana university under a series of decisions from scotus and federal courts of appeals k-12 teachers do not have the academic freedom that courts have recognized for college professors while tanker versus des moines was cited we must also look to the 2 2006 garcetti versus cabela's which ruled that public employees do not have first amendment protection for job-related speech since garcetti numerous courts have ruled that the potential exemption for scholarship and teaching does not apply to k-12 educators in 2010 the u.s court of appeals for the sixth circuit sides with the school district holding that garcetti applied because the teacher was acting pursuant to her job duties and quote the first amendment does not extend to in-class curricular speech of teachers
in primary and secondary schools these referents were derived these references were all derived from the article if critical race theory is banned are teachers protected by the first amendment by mark walsh and published in education week in june 2021 it's a premier journal for k-12 teachers in regards to the board member who stated that the three-fifths compromise was an example that the united states is systemically racist i offered that this comment demonstrates constitutional illiteracy in 1787 the founders were attempting to form a union and protect the nascent united states this imperfect compromise actually allowed for the preservation of the republic while also confronting the moral and systemic evils of slavery by reducing the political power of holy states so off script at the last meeting if i have some time left you guys put a
graphic up there that pertained to a educational seminar that was in question you have debate about it i've spent my last couple months here speaking to the board pertaining to critical race theory so i limit my comments to them in this respect there were five general headings that you've posted on your slide the general headings for the seminar for both days one of the general headaches was named social justice movement in literacy education it was mentioned that there were like 17 odd different things well let me tell you and explain to you that one session out of five is 20 of this seminar had to do with social activism in the classroom i offer this because we've been debating the fact whether crt exists in pennsylvania or in pencrest the pennsylvania council of teachers of
english and language arts have demonstrated to you that social activism and indoctrination exists and that they support it and that here it is in 20 of your summit thank you thank you athletic committee mr rule of chairman i may recommend approval to accept a resignation from michael proper from his duties as an assistant wrestling coach at maplewood high school effective september 27th on behalf of the committee some move second and the discussion no discussion all those in favor of the destination say hi to b recommend approval of the 2021 winner coach lists as attached on behalf of the committee i will make that motion second question on the second discussion okay holy failure item c recommend approval of the student athletic trip as listed sega town girls softball to florida for spring training do we
have a motion um on behalf of the committee some move a second they have a motion and second i have a discussion yes dr glassball did you check into why that was changed and why they're losing five days instead of three different scheduling issues i think there's been more flexibility and that's the schedule where they had uh availability and uh that they were running that program so you know we will emphasize the need to you know it's hard to schedule some of these trips because we don't want to learn psa you know certain parts of the year with finals and midterms and you know uh around the uh easter break is typically the best time but i will reinforce that with the principles i was going to say maybe going forward we can emphasize to
the to the coaches that may be scheduled i just made a new i'll make sure when it's possible to have fewer days off okay that's fine thank you thank you we are adhering to a great moving average yes yes relaxed on that no no we haven't made any modifications to those requirements any further discussion we do not say aye aye motion approved item recommend approval the randolph township agreement for use of the baseball field as attached this is a renewal of a five-year agreement that has no cost to the district and i'd like to thank randolph township for their generous use of the field on behalf of the committee uh some move second get motion in a second in the discussion i'd just like to formally thank grandma township that's a beautiful ball too so
that's awesome any any other okay hold in favor say aye aye once unapproved education mr brown chairman item a recommend approval for stacey hetrix to attend the pctela 2021 conference in harrisburg october 20-23 i'll make the motion i do have a question so if i recall correctly dr law school she's paying for this conference correct yes so it's not coming out of district funds we paid for the substitute to give her permission to attend so if she were to take a day off any other time you pay for a substitute yes and this is not something that is i mean it's for her continuing education products correct yes how many continued medication credits does one need for being a teacher um a lot i think it's uh 180 hours over five years but after you
get your master's doesn't that go down no you still have to get uh every five year period i'm still opposed to it because of the reasons that i brought up last week i mean obviously the entire thing is laced with aspects of critical race theory that's not what english is for to be going to discuss at a conference it's got nothing to do with what she should be doing is she taking a personal day off in what i seen in that there was two things that i had issue with we can't hear you so they took a they decided on that because there's a couple of the topics in there i disagree with you know it looks like we're getting in towards political affiliation and teachers should be uh their affiliations politically shouldn't be uh
built by the students i don't know is in the conference that you can tell what some of the political affiliation is we don't know what classes she's taking and as i think of some of the incidences in our schools maybe some more teaching anti-racism and some things like that might be worth our time i don't want our board coming across this supporting racism there's a lot of racist things being said in our district and if we never define what crt is and we just say this is crt or that crt then anything that you have any sort of question about it said like social justice we don't know what that is it could be the crt could be anti-social justice this is just the title of reading the headline of a conference we don't know
what she's taking and we pretty much villainize this conference for one of our teachers that outperforms other teachers so well i disagree with you mr brooks we have defined critical race theory it's been defined across this country for months now i'm not going to go whether stacy's the best or not i know she's dedicated and she puts in time like most others don't so i'm not taking away what she is but this conference is full of stuff that we're fighting against right now and i'm not recruiting you you should not get invited so let's put it up for both what i would like to say is that this board's jurisdiction is over what is taught in the classroom not what a teacher goes to for their ces and while i understand i agree you know
that i have some political and conservative viewpoints which i do it is also not my prerogative to tell a teacher where he or she can get their continuing education credits and as dr glaswell always already said she's paying for the conference out of her own pocket so it doesn't come out of the district funds she is a good teacher whether or not we agree with her political views is irrelevant the board's jurisdiction is over what is taught in the classroom so at this point if she teaches something that would violate a policy then that's where we would have jurisdiction by attending a conference that does not violate any jurisdiction that this board has it's the teacher trying to get her continuing education credits that's my position i just want to caution the board about you
know i think that she has every right to go to this conference i'm not saying she can't go but i'm not going to give her a day off to go she wants to go she is a personal date she can go i can't stop her but the taxpayers aren't going to give her a day off okay thank you well let's take a look because we don't know i have something to say right i have never been more disappointed in this school board in my entire career four years of being on this school work and i have never been more disappointed than i am right now about the overreaction the the craziness the insanity i have never ever been more disappointed than i am right now i want to send an exemplary teacher that is on
state boards i mean she is she is the best of the best she is on state boards for language arts and we don't want to send her because oh we're afraid of something she might learn oh that's so scary i've had it you guys forget it are we allowed to say something let's vote because that's very much scary stuff i'm telling you are you done i'm done all right good roll call for the secretary yes mr brooks yes mr brown [Music] miss crow yes mrs davis he is mr d francesco no mr goulet yes mr johnston no mr lynch no mr volesky no vitamin b i recommend approval for kelly astor to attend age 2021 conference in pittsburgh november 4 through five what i never got it well you probably said but what is the
pain it is the uh his parents uh gifted and talented education mrs astor does all of our just does the gifted education for cambridge bring help uh so it smells like conference to help second to help our instructors to the best way to help the people that are aware the gift give them people uh students so it's a big difference between this emotion where before i maybe just second second thirty seconds yeah yes all right well i guess now we have discussion that we already had okay all in favor say aye aye any opposition no obsession motions approved item c recommend approval of all the attached resources and materials in accordance with policy 109. second all right we have a motion in the second in a discussion uh i i briefly went through this list
some neat stuff so it looks all good any further discussions all right all in favor say hi all right recommend approval of the attached barber national institute agreement absolutely okay we have a question in the second and discussions all right all in favor say aye aye option approved facilities and transportation committee mr johnson chairman item a uh recommended approval of the listed contracted student transportation drivers thank you we have a motion in a second in discussion no discussion take a vote hold in favor say aye aye motion approved item d recommend approve the attached parent provided transportation agreement for student a i have committed that recommendation second we have a motion in a second in the discussion okay let's take a boat hold in favor finance committee mr chairperson item a recommended approval of the
attached treasurer's reports do we have a second yeah we have a motion on the second discussions take a pull only in favor say aye aye mission approved payment b recommended approval of the attached disbursements second we have a promotion in the second discussion no discussion let's take a vote hold in favor say hi nbc recommended approval to to contract with uh contract with burke one to print and mail the 2021 act one homestead farmstead applications second we have motion in the second discussion no discussions take a vote all in favor say aye aye motion approved item d recommended approval of the attached high school activity clubs for 20 20 21 22 school year second we have motion on the second in the discussion i don't have just a question could you explain what this is
all about uh annually the uh the school board approves any of the activity accounts for each high school what they have is they have officers and bylaws and we have procedures in place to that that they would have accounts bank accounts and they raise money and spend money accordingly there's no close to the there's no cost in our district okay let's take a vote only fair to say all right i'm sorry okay i've heard several votes i didn't hear anything from did we vote yes i said okay all right sorry recommend approvally attached hub international agreement to prepare the 1095 c forms second we have a motion and a second discussion no discussion wants to take a vote holding fair to say aye aye and f recommend approval of the attached shred right agreement recommend
approval of the attached northwest tri-county intermediate unit e-write letter second we have a motion in a second discussion no discussions take a vote to say recommend approval of the attached epic communications e-rate funding for 22-23 school year second we have motion in the second discussion if not let's take a vote only to say hi hi washington approved it i recommend approval for kristen heckert to attend tasbo 22 conference in hershey march 8 through 11. second i have motion in the second discussion no discussion let's take a book so elaine power say hi personnel committee mrs davis chairperson we're going to do a consent agenda item is a b c d e f g second we have a motion and a second in the discussion no discussion let's take a vote hold on they will say
aye policy committee mr valeski chairman item a we have first reading i'm going to stop and allow the board to have a discussion regarding these policies number 903 did we leave something out of that because i thought monday night we said people were registered got five minutes people didn't got two minutes but they didn't we could do that i mean the board has a lot of flexibility i couldn't hear you the the new and the the new as mr healey made a comment uh earlier about mr johnson saying the same thing we moved the comment period for citizens from five minutes to two minutes mr johnson's saying what if we allow registered citizens comments who register ahead of time 24 hours to have five minutes and anybody who has if we have time remaining to
about two minutes from the floor yeah that was my understanding for monday night i can we can make that change yeah that makes more sense because that's not really enough i will let one more item the five minutes because we already the policy contains a 30 minute and 30 minute limit yeah so i will say we cannot have more than six people speaking because five times i got you okay um i'll make that change and uh we'll get that on for uh a vote next month any other comments on the first readings yeah i was i've been trying to go through which one yeah did you take one nineteen point one uh 119's for a vote oh no what's one of nine um at the end of the meeting is the public allowed to come
up and make any comments it's up to to the to the president if we allow if the president will allow anybody to say but you should address only what has been talked during america you know they can come up with something new other than what was already addressed by the board because if something comes up in a meeting and then somebody in the audience has an issue with it do they have a right to discuss that you know what was talked about at the end of the meeting i mean that doesn't happen all the time but there are going to be times when they're going to want to make a comment and i'm sure it's frustrating for them not to be able to be heard so [Music] if you look at policy 006 [Music] we've
got three conversations go ahead if you look at the the revised policy zero zero six it has citizens comments on agenda items prior to the vote right so anything you're going to vote on you get to hear from the citizens at the end after new business and before board marks you have citizens comments on non-agenda items you can just you can change that to say citizens comments on agenda or agenda items and then after that we have board remarks announcements and adjournment i think if something comes up during a meeting and they want to comment on or say something that would be an opportunity i'll change that to non-agenda or agenda items i think we should keep with agenda if we i mean what if something comes up in conference that's what say we all
start talking and something comes up it's not like but if we're talking it shouldn't be about gender i mean can we we have to learn the microphone so we can all hear what you guys say microphone i'm just i'm thinking here if we start allowing there's been times where we could be here to 11 o'clock at night if we just have one 30 minutes 30 minutes all right 30 minutes for the the first comment session and second we're total oh okay i thought that's the question and i think too when we were in the policy meeting correctly if i'm wrong but i think it was mr joseph that was with us yeah he indicated that the public cannot ask questions because i cannot answer a question it has to be a board um you make
comments right correct only comments so having people ask questions afterward and we cannot answer that you know as a ward as a board correct we're going speak foreign all the questions usually are addressed to the to the chair and then the chair decides if we want to have discussion okay the chair doesn't answer the question right no you can't know [Music] my understanding i'm sorry mr brown go ahead my understanding was that current events divisive issues 119 was supposed to be on first reading tonight that's what i was going to say so great mindset to like that's where i was going to ask a question and i couldn't find it so i thought maybe right it was on mondays yeah so what happened to it did you do david no that that may be nice
it was your fault we just didn't transfer so it was a late addition it came on monday so there's probably if it was if it was a simple straightforward policy that wasn't going to be controversial and lead to a lot of discussion i would say you could probably go ahead and nobody would object to it but if you mean you could you could vote to amend the agenda um and add it but it could be it could be something to protest well it was announced monday at our work session but it would be on for first reading yeah that bears no way that's that's not i mean it's it's not on the published agenda is what it comes down to so if somebody if somebody didn't look at the agenda for the work session but
looked at the agenda for today and they would have come in and wanted to make comment about it somebody you know that somebody else wanted to come in and make a comment about it they wouldn't have known that it was on the agenda tonight okay it's a first reading so we're not taking we're not taking action on that well i'd like to make a motion that would revise the agenda and add policy 119 to first reading yeah that's not a discussion any other discussion on this policies first read for a second okay let's go to the next agenda [Music] i apologize this was a this was an error but again i i agree with with mr ghoul a bit yeah that he can make a motion to add it to the agenda i would say
that the board could vote on that and i would open it up to citizens comments since we're adding it we're not voting on it and then i would leave it on as a reading i don't think you're doing anything wrong right no i think i think that says it says it's just the first reading you could do it there was a motion there just wasn't a second note it's frustrating i think you still need to vote you you need to vote on the motion to amend the agenda to add 911 [Music] we had a first second yeah maybe we should the motion is to add policy 119 as discussed on monday as a first reading and you've had a motion in a second you need to vote all right all in favor all right emotional
proof i'd just like to comment on that i've [Music] public school maybe you'll bring it up to yeah i'm just saying that i've willing to put it on there so we're going to head forward thank you all right i apologize again item b uh recommend approve the following policies 109 resource materials that is for voting demand on behalf of committee to make that recommendation second i have a second i have a motion in a second in the discussion if you have no discussion let's take a vote hold in favor say aye aye aye safe schools committee mr brown chairman item a recommended approvally attached archive social agreement no discussion let's take a vote all in favor say i uh this old member crawford county career technology center mr johnson representative any report this evening uh
the main thing was we graduated uh i believe it was 12 above the edge from the world tech which helps out with the nursing shortage i believe all of them thank you intermediate five reporter mr brooks senior reporter um over the summer food program and it provided 83 741 meals to the ie5 their adult education graduation had 71 adults graduate [Music] since july 1st 96 students enrolled in adult education classes i think it's great that there's adult education out there and people are going back and getting their their diplomas um they put this as a point of interest from august 31st through september 15th the special education department had 124 instances where they needed to substitute kind of highlight the substitute shortage we have and that's all all right uh pspa legislative report mr blue
look anything to report this evening no thank you any new business this evening board member remarks remarks we'll start with mr goolig um [Music] okay i'm going to use my time tonight i know people come up here and they're very passionate about what they think and they're 100 certainly able to do that because it's america but i want to set the record straight on something a gentleman on monday night talked about a picture that was in the irrigation there were questions on this picture that asked about privilege it was about a shakespearean play and it asked about privilege privilege is used in the play it's not white privilege it's just the word privilege you may or may not know that words have different meanings some people were oppressed in that play and some people were
privileged and that's fine the teacher was asking questions about the boy and students wrote their answers on sticky notes their opinions their answers and they put them on the blackboard and the gentleman made it sound like the teacher wrote derisive things on the blackboard and that's not true she didn't in fact the pa language standards are such that they say that you should teach kids to use critical thinking you should teach them to analyze literature which is exactly what that teacher was doing and by the way it was a student teacher it wasn't a pancreas teacher we're going to make sure we've never hired that teacher um it was a random picture it was in the eerie gay news i don't know why this gentleman was reading the irrigations but it was in the irig
news and it had nothing to do with the stuff that was on the blackboard it was a gay alliance of sacred town and they were just taking a picture and they happen to be in front of that line okay so people can say whatever they want to say when they come up here but they really ought to be factual and they really ought to have their ducks in a row because that gentleman made it sound like something that it wasn't i realize this is 20 21. facts don't matter you believe what you're going to believe and whatever i believe is a fact but those are my facts to the gentleman who spoke tonight about my gonads yeah well if you want to go with me to the district justice of the lawyer and you want
to sign a paper that says that all you have to do is take care you will you will pay right you will pay my money please no discussions get on to me you don't have no vote or you either taking it to where it should have been right to court [Music] the state can sue me if i if i don't go along with their mandate so if you're going to pay my fine if you're going to put up your house instead of mine that's fine but you've got no no skin in the game constitutional rights you've got no skin in the game it's a mandate and we have to go buy it even though we don't want to we all said we don't want to we joined and hackathoned all right you need to quit
no all right all right so now all right we joined a lawsuit against the mass mandate that's all i have to say this is crazy mr brooks um great that great to have the kids back in school great to see all can we give them a big five mr president yes and great to see the kids back in school that's what our focus should be on is our kids um great to see their sports teams out there competing i know that we've got a lot of obstacles out there so i'm proud to see each and every one of these kids that are showing up at school they're putting the work in at sports and putting the work in the other activities of school glad to see them back there and working on what they're supposed
to be working on our kids are going through more stress now for a variety of reasons we need to keep that in mind as a board moving forward and not make the stress worse make sure that what we're doing is focused on the kids in the classroom we need to make sure that as a community we're stepping up and helping out where we can we need more bus driver substitutes we need more student we need more substitutes in the classroom um as we come into these sports seasons and these clubs are out there and they're selling candy they're doing fundraisers last year was brutal for all the boosters and really took a big chunk out of everyone because no one could could have their concessions things no one could make money the way they normally
do so make sure that this year when someone comes around and they're selling a candy bar and help them out make sure that as a community we're standing behind our kids and standing behind our school what kind of it is i'm glad we're getting back on track the state doesn't make it easy for us they're ridiculous mandates we're trying to fight them like jeff said the scogan thing has hurt the school district in all sorts of ways we just need to focus on our kids our staff we need to try and get more people to drive buses to teach so we don't have to keep bringing our kids to cyber or homeschooling or what have you so let's get behind our kids and support them all right i guess it's my turn um one of
the things that i think i mentioned last month and i will mention again this month is how we as the board and as adults are setting examples for our children and tempers flaring is not the way it should be and whether or not i agree with the board member or the general public is not something that should be debated at high volumes this meeting is publicized it's on the tv it's on zoom and i think our examples are critical it doesn't matter if we are disagreeing on a topic what matters is the example that we set for the children and i think as mr bullock said we do need to teach critical thinking i teach critical thinking to my children all the time and yes i want them to believe how i believe but that
doesn't necessarily mean that they will end up that way they may end up believing something completely different um and when that happens it happens i can disagree with them because that's what i do as a parent and i'm pretty sure the rest of you do that too if you have kids but i think oftentimes this board is getting off into the weeds and we need to concentrate on what we have jurisdiction over not on what we disagree on and find something that will unite us because as you well know since march of 2020 of last year there have been way more forces dividing us than have been bringing us together and i guess that's the thought i want to leave you with if the district can't come together and support one another as mr brooks
even said like support our kids support the district and i'll just give kudos out to our athletic director and our teams i'm telling you my son plays sports and we played an away game this week and i'm not citing any district but their district did not have good sportsmanship our district did and i'm super proud of our voice super proud i mean they played under duress and we had i think one sub so they played the entire game so i just want to give a shout out and say you know what there are some things where you're doing great and if we can get together and support each other support the students the administration the faculty the boards the students i think we're going to go a lot farther and yes we can disagree with
one another but we can do it in a manner that will set an example for our children that it's okay to have a differing viewpoint but it's not okay to raise your voice and to scream at one another and to however you want to do it that's not okay it doesn't solve a problem so that's one of the things i wanted to get across and again thank you to our sports and our athletic director i'm telling you what these coaches are they're great so thank you mr groud uh well thanks to ms crawl over here for moving the microwave microphone robber there uh a lot of things i was gonna say was just said uh theresa did an excellent job but uh i will reiterate that and i've said this since i've been on the
board our top priority is the kids it's supposed to be the kids it should be our main focus the kids don't have a voice really i mean they count on us uh and they count on their parents and a lot of things have come up with the crt in 1619 and all that and it's sad that we even have to discuss that we've set policy forward for teachers to teach the curriculum that's been approved we do have a few teachers that are breaking that policy we know that but i have to challenge the principals and mr newman and even mr glasgow if we know it's happening we have to start being strict and disciplined teachers that are doing that i've got reports from a few students that i know personally that had confrontation with a
couple teachers and it's very sad in what they say is true happened so i guess i've only got two years left on this board two years in a month not that i'm counting down but i will say i've said this from the beginning also i'm not here to make friends and i've done that pretty good too we char we have some of the best teachers as far as i'm concerned in the state possibly the nation most of our teachers are awesome dedicated love their children watch over them and trust me they will die more but we do have a few that have political agendas and the last year and a half two years it has gotten worse why i don't know why this is coming about i know we can get into that another time
i'm not going to go there our goal has to be the kids and one thing i said this before i'll say again as parents it's our job to instill values work with our children and in the evenings maybe put our devices down spend time with our children talk to our children shoot them for a walk with our children uh i see it i work in area i'm all over erie and i see people out on the front porches all the time with their kids and their parents are sitting here on their phone and the kids are over here on their that's part of society's problem too much technology we have to get back to fundamentals we hire teachers to teach a specific curriculum whether it be math science whatever it may be i plead with
those teachers if that's what you're hired to teach please teach the subject you were hired to teach don't go off script we don't need your political values your ideas or anything involved but students we have to be respectful we have to follow the rules also we're all we all have responsibility that we must take in this parents you too also have the responsibility we have to be level-headed and as teresa said the high volume the loud voices the hallway it may make you feel good at the moment but afterwards i know i usually feel bad i think it's time that we get back to focusing on the fundamentals we have a great school district we have great teachers and we have awesome students let's encourage our students and let's become a community even though there's
differences but let's not be divided it's time for us to stand up this community thank you all right [Music] as for the crt the school board union is for it and they petitioned the provide administration to help enforce it so our policy is not to teach it even though we have certain people that want to believe that we aren't they want to define it they say we don't have it here but just like mr brown i've heard from different people that there are certain teachers that are talking about it and you know we get evidence to find out that that's the case then we have a policy to deal with that so until somebody comes up and wants to make a formal complaint there's not too much we can do and as for the mask
mandate i know it seems like we're going back on our work i'm against it i don't know if anybody really wants to force it but none of us get paid up here and if we didn't go along with it anybody that got sick in our district they could sue us personally and the district would not back us with any kind of legal representation or any kind of defense we would have to defend it on our own so that would put my house and my job on the line just because somebody's kid was segregated and they felt that it was my fault for not enforcing the state mandate even though we are trying to fight it but like with any legal situation it takes time you can't just go ahead and say we're not going to
follow it we're trying i mean we're in on the lawsuit against the administration and it's going as fast as it can go i guess you know we've just approved it i think it was last last month we approved to be part of that lawsuit so it's only been a month i agree with you i don't want to i don't i think they're unhealthy and i know a lot of people that have suffered with masks so don't think we're not trying just because we don't get the results that we want right away give us some time to try to work it out without coming down on us and blaming us because not all of us feel that this is right either that's all i have to say thank you mr lewinsky mr brown and mrs kroll
pretty much said everything i would have said only in a lot better words the only things i want to add is um we had dr glaswell and miss fonzo and mr dixon all took us to the elementary school here said last week i believe it was gave us a tour of the renovations and stuff there and i appreciate that a lot thank you for that it was very helpful to see the different things that were done especially looking forward definitely helpful so just appreciative of that the second thing i'll add is that elections are coming up vote it's our given right in america that we need to take advantage of if we do not use that then we're wasting what we're given so vote for those that will uphold the constitution and will hold what's
right that's all i have i hate to repeat what's already been said um much more eloquently than i would i'm sure but um there's just certain things that i just can't see that we can stress enough most importantly is coming and going from the schools and seeing the students back in the buildings fully participating in sports that's what we need to focus on those kids have struggled they've struggled a lot and they're struggling now there's there's voids there's setbacks that they've all experienced whether they were in the building or not question our teachers are dealing with shortages and covering much more in the course of a day than they typically should have to so they need our support and i just i can't stress enough how important it is to me as a parent and
as a school board member to see people continue to come to meetings we're hearing you whether we agree with you or not all the time we're hearing you um the people that come here with a respectful poem it does my heart good it makes me sad to actually see numbers starting to go into him we need your input this is a community we're supposed to work together as a community but i also think in keeping with what a lot of the others have said we have to remember the tone and the example that we are setting for our kids we live in a country where there's so much opportunity and if we don't agree with something there's a route to take to get it rectified if you truly want to affect change and you truly
have something in your in your heart and in your conviction that needs to be changed please come talk to us about it but please understand sometimes we can't fix it so if you're coming here to just place plane and it makes you feel better to yell at us then that time but if you're going to get on social media and run your mouth if that makes you feel better when you click on facebook then that's fine too but if you really want to show the kids how this country works pointing fingers and hollering people on a local level they can't change things it's not effecting change so i would encourage you if you want to continue to come here and be heard and if there's something we can do to help you then certainly we
will but please if there's something more joy you know what we're trying to do too we're trying to change things if we can change it we will and please back us up go above us because we're cruel thanks our kids need to see a community that is united they need to see a community that can work things out and have a decent conversation whether we agree or disagree and i would just really ask to encourage if you can't hear me keep coming to needs keep having conversations but please continue to reach out to the people who can really make the changes um if we can and please when you see a teacher or you see a bus driver or you see an administrator thank them extra because they're working their tails off they're dealing with
things that nobody should have to deal with and the blame game is not helping anybody so i just i can't say how how proud i am of our kids and our staff and i would just ask everyone to continue letting each other know where your pride is and encouraging one another and let's work together to fix what needs to be fixed well just about everybody say what i was prepared to say but i like to reinforce a couple of items yes and you know our major goal is to educate all the students and and and we got to go back to the fundamentals and one fundamental has been neglected a lot for years is to teach our young kids what america is all about not long ago many many centuries ago in 1492 somebody got
on the on the boat and tried to find a new and new way to to do business and end up getting blocked by a new land now that that man you know sacrifice he took a chance and he found something that actually brought us us here today to a country that we all got to be proud of and our kids should learn how great this country is you know we we have a nation actually united states is a world that we are savings the world right in this nation every nationality every atheist it exists with each individual in this nation yeah sure there is a lot of difference maybe some people like other some people like them and some people they don't like it that's that's the nature of every human being you know not
to dislike something that i'd like but we've been living well for many years all together italians chinese irish africans we're all here as one people but unfortunately now we have some people taking advantage of other people to to divide us again and and hopefully we can do something about it and then we're trying to do something about to keep it everybody equally and to work together for a better future the other thing the thing is important is that we this board should make sure that we get the trust of the parents the students the children belong to the parents matter to uh to the school and we have to still trust that we do the right thing for the for our students and i think we do i think that's what we're doing [Music] our
superintendent dr vespel is doing a hell of a job with all the pressure it gets from everybody from what our government down the government who changes is uh maintains from on a daily basis so you know it's important that the parents do trust this board and the administration and one i want all the parents to know the administration is doing a hell of a job and try to accommodate everybody we get all the sudden we got this mandate everybody have to wear a mask the students have to mask and employees but we have no choice because we don't know if it's illegal or not and that's why we joined the suit i can't select the secretary the acting secretary of health and we don't know what's going to happen until the court finally make a
decision in the case but in the meantime you know it's one thing for sure we work for you you don't pay us anything but we still work for you and we want to do a good job for the children for the students and the parents to ensure that they are the children's are safe and sound and i think about it with and appreciate all the board members make the statement and tell us exactly how to feel and i hope that you the public toward our boss please work with us and let's not make any we have to go beyond the goal to make a better future for our kids thank you one announcement today the board met in executive session on october 11 and 14 for personnel negotiations and litigation [Music] all in favor say
all right [Music] you
