Oh, hi. I know I have a TV voice. We will get started in just a couple of minutes. That's fine. Good evening everyone. We're going to call to order the school board meeting of Tuesday, May 26th. Miss Lounberry, can I have the recording of attendance, please? >> Excused. Excused. >> Miss Hario, can you confirm your attendance? >> I'm here. >> Present. >> Here. Here. If we can please stand for the pledge of allegiance for visitor comment. Do we have anyone who signed up last minute? We have no Oh, apparently we have a Mr. Steven Mont. This is last minute, but I just wanted to acknowledge and congratulate the robotics club, Spartekch. Um, regardless of how far you go, you've learned a lot. You've learned a lot about prototyping, testing, debugging, competing, teamwork, and a myriad
of other things. So, congratulations on a great season. and as a corporate sponsor, I congratulate you as well. So, well done and we'll see what happens next year, but looking forward to this presentation. Thank you. >> Thank you, Mr. Mont. That concludes our public comment for the first half. Moving on to exe executive session summary. Attorney Summers. >> Sure. Uh the board did meet in an executive session immediately prior to tonight's meeting for the purpose of receiving updates on tax assessment appeals. >> Moving on to 3B, the approval of the May 11th, 2026 board meeting minutes. Do we have a motion? >> Motion second. >> I think that'll be Mr. Cardi. I heard first, Miss Torba, I heard second. Do we have any comments? >> Seeing none, all those in favor? I. >> Any opposed?
>> Any abstension? Motion passes. Moving on to section four, superintendent update. We'll forward this to Dr. Trinkle. >> Good evening. Uh before I introduce our robotics team or Spartex, uh just a brief announcement. Uh with graduation arriving Friday evening, I wanted to extend an enthusiastic congratulation to our soon-to-be graduates. Um what a milestone uh and the single ceremony is a culmination of a collective commitment required from our entire community to prepare for this moment. Uh reaching the finish line of a school year requires an absolute village. I think we can all agree to that and we can feel immense pride and appreciation for the dedicated network that we have here to outline our success. To our families, the unconditional support, the late night encouragement and partnership has anchored our students achievements over these years. To
our educators and staff, you have poured your heart and energy into this expertise and guiding our students and always pushing them to reach their full pos uh potential. Thank you to the board of directors for your advocacy and your strategic support of our students and staff and providing us with the strong foundation necessary for our schools to survive. So, thank you. As we approach the close out of this school year, we can look back on a breathtaking calendar. Uh, achievements and every single member of our community should be proud of that. Southern Lehigh has excelled at the highest levels across every pillar of our student experience. We've highlighted rigorous scholarships, state level recognitions, innovative classroom breakthroughs, applauding the artistic, the musical, and communitydriven successes that our students a voice and purpose outside of our classroom.
We have also reached some athletic milestones celebrating record-breaking historic performances, state championships, league finals, state championship and championship level grit on the field and the court. Last week, we had 32 student athletes signed to a post-secary opportunity to pursue their athletic and academic journeys. That is no small feat. We enti when an entire community comes together with a shared vision, the results are nothing short of remarkable. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this banner year and we look forward to sending off our graduates in style this Friday night. So without further uh delay, I am going to thank the Suddenly High School robotics team for joining us this evening. The Sparteks uh are a dedicated robotics team comprised of talented students who are passionate about STEM. Uh they're supported by a network of
committed mentors and I see them in the back there. Um and they compete in the first robotics competition which is the highest level of youth robotics competitions. Uh first robotics competitions empower our students to thrive through teamwork, creativity, hands-on engineering challenges. By participating in this elite league, the Sparteks gain an invaluable experience preparing them for life beyond the classroom as they represent Southern Lehigh with pride. I will turn it over to the team. Thank you for being here. I'm not for sure that the mic is on. Let's make sure that people can hear us online as well as in person. >> Hello. Good. All right. Sorry. I'll start over again. Good evening everyone. We are student representatives from the Spartex as well as um our FTC team failings. And I'll give you a little bit
more about that later. Um we're here to inform everyone about what we do as a team, who we are, um our performances the past year, and all of that, uh information regarding our program. So, so a little bit about our team. So, our team, the Spartex, was started back in 2002, making this our 24th season officially. Each year, we have around 30 students on the team that we currently split up into three subdivisions, which are build, business, and programming. So, build deals with mechanical Hardware business is relations with the community uh sponsors businesses and programming is software coding problem solving such like that. So uh what exactly is first? So F FRC stands for the first robotics competition. So first is a nonprofit organization that promotes steam education. Each year they build a game that
promotes creativity, teamwork and problem solving. So first is just for high school levels or the F FRC is just for high school levels and as you can see there's a number of different leagues. So we have the first Lego League, the first tech challenge and then the F FRC first robotics competition. We with us we have our FTC first tech challenge team and um as well as so these are our students directly in the team and students from F FRC mentor the FTC team as well. So I believe is a prominent mentor in their team. Carlson in the back is an adult mentor and I would like to kind of get you familiar with our FTC team as well before we move on to in-depth overview of what we've done at FRC. So we have
four members here. The FTC team has been a really successful initiative within Southern Lehigh STEM. Uh we see them as an extension of our F FRC team, not as a separate branch. So we are directly one and the same. We hope that FTC students F FRC opportunities in high school and join us and as well as other STEM related high school uh opportunities. There are 20 active members and this past season they played in two events, the Southeastern and Eastern Pennsylvania qualifiers. In the past, they've also made it to the Pennsylvania state competition and as I said before, they're mentored by students and adult mentors from both FRC or from F FRC team 834. I'll show here. This is just a clip of one of their games. You can see it's a smaller scale. Hi,
my name is Maline Oswald. I'm a senior on the F FRC team, the high school team of robotics, and I am the build officer. So, this is my second year being the build officer. So, I do like the mechanical side of stuff and the hardware. So, I'm going to talk about the F FRC game this year. It's called uh Rebuild. Um, and the like whole theme like across all three of the like um, Lego League and the FTC team, it's called First Age, but ours specifically is rebuilt. So, for each year, first release is that brand new robotics game. And like I said, it's called Rebuilt this year. And the theme is archaeology and rebuilding pieces of the past. In the match, our robot has to move around the field, score game pieces called fuel,
which are these like yellow type of dodgeball, and uh they score the uh they score the game pieces across obstacles, they climb a tower, and they work with alliance partners to earn bonuses. Uh every decision we make, mechanical, electrical, programming, and strategy, it comes back to how well we can complete these game tasks. So, each competition is split up into a two-day event. The first day, we follow a preset schedule of randomly selected qualification matches. This creates time for each team to build ranking points. The more ranking points you earn each game, the higher you will be ranked. And then during the second day of the competition, we finish qualification matches and then we select alliances. The top eight teams get to choose their teammates and help them during elimination brackets. Um, each season we
try to reach out to the community and build connections. This helps us get more people involved with robotics and understand what it is. So, this is the middle school team at the SEAM Expo. We use this to promote engineering to the younger grades and try to gain more members in the future. This for the FTC team now and also for the F FRC team in the high school. This was our homecoming pep rally. So, this season marked our second year participating in the school pep rally. We use a t-shirt cannon and we give out extra hoco shirts and we also handed out some sport tech shirts this year too I believe. And then community day is in Cooperburg. Um you know that like you build connections there with our community and we reach out to
more people in the area to find more sponsors or mentors. It's always a fun way to reconnect with like old alumni and see people that we've known before and promote a world of STEM. Hi everyone, my name is Gabe and I'm the programming captain of the F FRC team. So I wanted to talk a little bit more about the educational impact of our team. So our team doesn't our team doesn't just promote the STEM but it actually helps build engineers from the foundation. Um so over the last five years nearly 90% of our alumni pursue STEM careers. So it's of course we build phenomenal engineers and passionate engineers as well. So team A34 works alongside professionals of course our lovely mentors to develop um technical knowledge, leadership and real world skills that prepare us for
success in the engineering workforce. Okay. Okay. So, I wanted to talk a little bit about um what made this year so special. So, we adopted a new engineering workflow um that was um kind of necessary to compete at the higher level. So, one of the biggest changes um was how students are now moving from idea to CAD to building. So, for many students on our team, CAD is completely new. We're teaching them how to use On Shape, which which is a professional cloud-based CAD platform. Um, and then rather than jumping straight into cutting and assembling, we're now building students habits of brainstorming a solution, um, modeling it digitally with the CAD software and revising it and iterating across it to, um, make sure that that product is well tested. Um, so the most important part
of this is not that the students are making the robot parts physically, but instead they're learning about how to build using um real world skills and the real world engineering workflow used in um the industries abroad. Okay, so this is our results for this year for a robot this year. So, we were ranked 28, um the second pick of Alliance 3, um overall fifth in the event, and we um were eliminated in the double bracket. Um for the Ben Salem, uh Oh, yeah. Okay. So, for the Ben Salem event, um we were ranked 13, the first pick of Alliance 8, and we were also eliminated in the double elimination bracket. And that's all we have for you today. So, yeah. Thank you. >> Yeah, thank you all for listening. U I know it's a lot
of information, especially for people who haven't heard so much about this in the past or seen our events. Um if you have any questions, please feel free to ask. We're uh completely open. We'll be showing a little bit about how our robots work. Here you can see our F FRC robot and our FTC robot. Two different sizes, two different competitions. Um we work for about So our season starts on January 10th or started on January 10th. um this year and we have about six weeks to uh completely prototype, build, strategize, program a brand new robot from scratch. Uh because the game does change every year and we have that short amount of time to get it all tested and made and then we start to compete right after that. >> Do you want to bot
and then we'll see if we have some board questions? >> We'll do a small demo. Uh, we'll be a little bit limited here because of space and we don't want to tear up carpet. >> Just let us know if you need us to duck. >> Okay. So, one of the balls from the floor. So, I'm gonna go ahead and bring I'm going to go ahead and bring the intake down to show you that you want to drive. Try to drive. >> Okay. All right. So, we limited some of the controls. That's why it's um being a little funny. We made sure it wouldn't drive in here. So, but um besides that, you saw how we have a spinning roller that pickup picks the balls up and it vectors them inside the robot's cavity where it
holds balls. Yeah. And then when we're ready to shoot in the um funnel game piece, we will um activate the shooter, which is a a high-speed flywheel, and that will um of course shoot the ball in with a sort of projectile trajectory into the um hub. So, if if you can um see on the screen, this is a picture of the game's map. And that little um there's a little arrow pointing towards the hub. That's what we have to shoot into. So it's kind of like a little funnel looking device. So yeah. Yeah. We just that piece that um game scoring hub center is probably about seven feet tall or so six feet tall. So pretty confident because the robot needs to be able to shoot it in from anywhere on the field. So we're
pretty confident that it will knock one of the tiles out and we don't want to end up doing that. Um but yeah, so this is um the fruit of our labor for about two long months uh during the season. Well, two long dedicated monsters during the onseason and many months prior as well um of experience and working with mentors um to create what we have here. >> I just wanted to say thank you for sharing so much. My husband's a director of engineering and he always says that he appreciates new grads who come to interview who have done experiences like this because you have done it, you have ideiated, you have drawn it, you have tried it. A lot of times people will, you know, do an engineering degree without doing the hands-on piece. That
hands-on piece is so critical to being influential in the workplace. So, I'm glad that you were choosing to do this. >> Thank you. >> Any other board comment? >> I'm sorry I didn't wear my Spartex. I do have a sweatshirt at home and I didn't wear it. Um but my daughter absolutely loved the program. She was in on the communications team and just that experience um was incredible going to the competitions just uh interacting, planning. Um congratulations on everything that you you accomplished this year. It looked like you placed pretty well on some of the competitions. >> Thank you. >> Uh so I have a question about um your educational like streamline. let's say like were you part of first Lego League and then also part of FTC and then went into F FRC or
does everybody essentially take like a different path? >> So that's a great question. So as a senior F uh LL so the first Lego League and FTC did not exist when I was those ages. So those are new um to the past few years. We've worked to get those founded and up and going. Um and that's kind of the workflow we've worked to assemble. So that's the efforts of um many of the business team members to try to get that happening, communicating with adults in the real world to see who is available to help because it's a it's a big project and to see who who is willing to help us and to kind of grow this STEM experience for kids. So what we hope to see and maybe the current FTC kids can help
help me out with this if they want to speak a little bit on it, but we hope that and we have already seen FTC members coming from the middle school to the F FRC team in the short amount of time that it's existed. But um I'm sure these FTC members are also looking at similar um a similar line to enter the F FRC team. We thank you for spending your evening with us tonight and for bringing uh your teams here and thank you to the coaches and the mentors. We know the time that it takes to prepare not just for this evening but for your entire season. So not I know I don't know if there are any other questions but I you know I do want to thank you. I love kind of finalizing
our school year with our with our Spartex and our and our middle school team as well. I think it's a it's an important feeder program for Lego robotics. It is exactly what we are looking for. Um, so we thank you for mentoring our younger students and we thank our our coaches and our mentors for doing the same. So, thank you very much. >> Thank you. We'll let you guys get cleaned up. Um, and feel free to sneak out if you would like. >> Yeah, sure. So, if if we do we we have time. >> Yeah, of course. >> That would be great. >> Hi. Um, so we have any of our artifacts here right now. Those are like the little plastic balls that we shot to score points, but we just want to give you
a demo to show you how our robot functions. Um, there's a bowler right here. It has I'm not sure if you can see it, but it has blue rubber bands, and that's our intake. It um function of the intake was to roll the artifacts into the robot. Then the indexer um kind of moved the balls up into the green shooter over there so that we can score. Um, here. Could you play it? So, um, so as you could see, as soon as the, um, autonomous started to go, this span, this spun to, um, like make momentum because we had to shoot the balls and kind of like what the what this team had to do, like shoot them into a designated area. We use these rubber bands to pick up the ball and send it
into here, which will spin the balls, forcing them into the shooter, which will shoot them up here. to the designated area. Do you guys have the same six week schedule in order to try and go from radiation to end or do you have a little longer? >> No, we have a little bit longer than that. Um, our competitions are mostly in January or February and we start um earlier in the fall. So, Is it common for uh the two leagues to have similar tasks like collecting balls and shooting? Is that they are usually similar tasks? What kind of uh coding is used for the software? So um the programming language we use in F FRC and FTC is um Java. So it's industry level stuff. So it's a great opportunity um for students to learn
programming using real the real world programming language. I just want to say something about our FTC team. Um, what they just showed you is the autonomous version. So, if you don't know what that means, we have like an auton time and then a teleop time. Auton is when it's all programming and teleyop is when someone's controlling it. So, that segment that they just showed you, someone programmed that um using the software that Gabe talked about. So, just thought that was pretty cool. >> That's Yeah, that's a great point. super talented. >> Any questions? >> Any other questions? >> Well, we look forward to this time next year. >> Thank you so much. We'll give everyone just a couple minutes to clear up. And if there's any members of the audience who would like to exit,
please feel free to do so. Thank you all so much. >> We're going to move on to section five, curriculum, student and staff activities. Does anyone have an issue if we group A and B together? >> No, group them. >> Okay. So, is that a a motion, Miss Torb? I have a second group. >> Mr. Misio is the second. Any questions on A or B? Seeing none, all those in favor? >> I. >> Any opposed? Any abstensions? Motion passes. Moving on to section six, special education and student services. Does anyone have an issue if we group all the way A through G? wrap them. >> I do need to abstain from one vote. >> Okay. >> Um >> I'll abain from B, but I'm okay with grouping them all together. I I'll >> So, we
will take B separately then, Miss Hario. And then Okay. So, we're going to do A C D E FG. So, I have a motion from Miss Torb. >> Do I have a >> Second from Mr. Carney. >> Any questions on those? Okay, seeing none, all those in favor? I >> I any opposed? >> Any abstensions? Okay. Then we're going to move to 6B. We have a motion to approve the amendment to the St. Luke's position services agreement. >> Motion second. >> I think that was Mr. Carney and Mr. Rager if my ears are catching me right. Any questions? All those in favor? I. >> Any opposed? Any abstensions? >> I'll abain from this vote. Thank you. >> Thank you, Miss Har. Okay, we have nothing on seven, technology. Moving on to eight, business and finance.
Does anyone mind if we lump A and B together? >> Motion built bundle. >> Second. >> Okay, so we have a first from Miss Torb, second from Mr. Misio. Perfect. Okay, any questions? >> I just have a question on the transfer um on the treasur's report. It was a $20 million transfer from PISLAF to the U checking account and um and then we're left with I think it was like 1.3 million in PISLAP. Um I'm just wondering when does that essentially end up getting reimbured? Is that like towards the beginning of the next school year with with grants or how does that work out? >> No. Uh PISLAF actually is like a clearing house where we get our state and federal aid in. So as it builds up, we determine when we want to move
it over or not. At this point, it's more advantageous with the interest rates and Q&B in the general fund. And also based on draw down, as we need more money in the general fund, we'll move it over. So we don't replenish it, it'll replenish on its own as we start the next uh fiscal school year. >> Any other questions? Seeing none, all those in favor? I >> I >> Any opposed? >> Any abstensions? Motion passes. Moving on to 8C, election of a board treasurer. Uh we will take nominations for that. >> I nominate um Shannon Williams, our assistant director of business office. >> Okay. So, we have Shannon Williams. Do we have other nominations? >> Uh I'm going to nominate Lewis. Okay. >> Mr. Do we have any other nominations? Seeing none, can we have
a motion to close nominations? >> Motion. >> Okay. So, we'll do M Mr. Misio can be the first and we'll do Mr. Carney as the second. So, we go in the order in which they were proposed. So, we'll start with Miss Williams. Do I have to >> Is there any discussion or No, there's no discussion. We normally don't discuss because we don't we wouldn't we don't normally want to comment specifically on humans. We just want to vote yes or no and move forward. Um I know Miss Williams is maybe not they're not a board member, but it is allowed under state code and actually in second second class districts are required to have a staff member be the treasurer. So nothing else. Why don't we go ahead? Do I need a voice vote for this?
Yeah, I would just recommend doing a roll call and then each individual who's called can indicate uh of the nominees who they're voting for. >> Okay, that works. >> Miss Harmo, your vote. >> Yes, I vote for Mr. Noio. Thank you. >> Thank you. This is a tough vote. Um I see other district that's not I was going to comment. Can I at least explain my thinking? >> Is that not >> So I would recommend um either allowing a debate period or or >> I think since we've started we're just going to go ahead and vote. Okay. >> Yeah. Um, >> I'll vote for Louis. >> Uh, vote for Shannon Williams. >> I'll vote for myself. >> I'm gonna vote for Lewis. I'll vote for Mr. Misio. >> I vote for Miss Williams. >> That
would be five votes for Mr. Meio and two votes for Miss Williams. Congratulations, Mr. >> Thank you. >> Moving on. Can we put D, E, and F together? That would be the bonding of the board officers, the ACA employer reporting and the auditor. >> EFG. >> Did I give those? D EFG. Sorry. D E FG. >> Yeah, I'll make a motion. >> Okay. So, Mr. Carney is the first by the second. >> I don't know who was first there. Mr. Sakura. Okay. Any questions on again would be D, E, F, and G? Seeing none. All those in favor? >> I. >> Any opposed? >> Any abstensions? Motion passes. >> Moving on to nine, support services. Do we have a motion to approve the pest control commercial services agreement? >> Motion. >> Mr. Misia, do we
have a second? >> Second. >> Uh Mr. Rager, any questions? >> Just a quick comment for the board. This is actually much better. structure goes back to the pricing that we actually started with three years ago. >> Thank you. Seeing no other question, all those in favor? >> I. >> Any opposed? Any abstensions? Motion passes. Moving on to 10A, the human resources report. Do we have a motion? >> Motion. >> That's Miss Torba. Do we have a second? >> That's Mr. Sakura. Do we have any questions or Mr. Haven, any notes you want to make? No, not today. I >> seeing none. All those in favor? >> I. >> Any opposed? >> Any abstension? Motion passes. >> Annie, can I just make a comment? It's related to human resources, I think. Um, I just wanted
to thank uh SLEA and the wonderful retirement event that they held at Hopewell last week. Um, that were attended saw it and I I just absolutely love I love that um they invite people that have retired to welcome people into the retirement club. There's a lot of smiles that day and uh including m I absolutely love it. Thank you. >> Thank you, Mr. Carney. Uh moving on to letter B, the 2026 2027 vacancies. Can I have a motion? >> Motion. >> Miss Torbid, do we have a second? >> Second. >> Mr. Micio, any questions? >> Uh, yeah, I do. So, um, this is to fill vacancies throughout the whole school year. >> No, it is in case we make some hires over the summer so we can not lose some some ground on that. >>
Gotcha. >> It's mostly what it's for. >> Okay. >> We'll see anything that gets appointed in July on the August agenda. Okay. Seeing another question. All those in favor? I I >> Any opposed? >> I >> Any abstensions? Motion passes. Uh does anyone mind if we lump C and D together? >> Seeing none, do we have a motion? Mr. Carney, do we have a second? >> Second. >> Mr. Misio, any questions? Seeing none, all those in favor? >> I. >> Any opposed? >> Any abstensions? I should have wrapped an My apologies. Uh, so we have a motion for E administrative regulation just the 104. The motion Mr. Carney. Do we have a second? >> Second. >> That was Mr. Mr. Sakor. There we go. Any questions? All those in favor? >> Any opposed? >> Any
abstensions? Motion passes. Uh, and then we move on. graduate study does not need a vote nor does support staff transfers. So those are for our information. Uh moving on to committee reports. I'm going to start here because I think most of our reports are going to come over from this side. Mr. Misio, should we start with you? >> Thank you. Um so with LCTI we'll be meeting uh tomorrow. Um, I wanted to start off by talking about their adult education programs. And while LCTI offers an incredible amount of opportunities for our high school students, they also offer adult education courses in the following categories: construction, communications, health and food services, manufacturing, automotive technology and repair, transportation, meaning CDLs and and forklift training, uh, supply chain management and logistics technology, and customized training in various fields
of study. You can find more information on this by visiting lctci.org and clicking the adult education tab. There will be options for an overview of the entire program, part-time programs, full-time programs, workforce training, and more. There's also vacant positions. LCTI is looking to hire a full-time school police officer. This position is uh this position and others can be found by visiting the lcti.org website and clicking work atlcti on the top right of the page. Regarding the LCTI budget, currently seven out of 10 of the nine uh seven out of the nine sending uh school districts uh governing LCTI have voted with 52 approving LCTI's budget for the upcoming school year while two have voted against the budget. Eight members were absent and there was one abstension. That concludes my report. >> Thank you, Mr. Splitting
that report. Okay, Mr. Carney. And I I think the two no votes, by the way, came from Whiteall Copley, which they're having their own financial issues, so it kind of kind of made sense. Um, I would want to thank Mr. Sakura for attending the Red Robin fundraiser for LCTI last month with his family. He sent me a photo, so that was pretty cool. Lewis and I, besides going Wednesday, will also be attending Thursday their uh senior celebration at PPL and always looking forward to that. And then uh congratulations again to Justina N. as a Skills USA national qual qualifier in print, tech, and graphic imaging. >> Um, Mr. Misio, do you have a finance and facilities report? >> Uh, yeah. So, earlier today, we had our um, uh, finance and facilities uh, meeting. Uh, we
didn't get through the whole agenda. So, those in the public who see the agenda, we ended up uh, stopping and adjourning at 4A with continued uh, discussion on middle school boys volleyball. Um I'll go more into that in a little bit. Um also this meeting is replacing the um the previously scheduled June second meeting. >> Yep. Um so we spoke um in depth about the auditorium project and we as a committee have uh agreed to bring it to the board for a full board discussion. So uh that's where we landed on that. Um we had a a lot of concerns being brought up regarding our um our debt service upcoming um our uh essentially looking at the timeline throughout the next four or five years. Um and really went into depth on how is it
going to affect our school district moving forward. Um once there is a debt service um roll off in um I want to say our current debt that we hold, we are going to need to take on a new project, right? And and that was another portion of our discussion that it sounds like we would ultimately not want a to have a debt, but you have to have a debt and continue it rolling because there will be continued projects, upgrades, and and so on and so forth. Um and Dr. if you want to discuss um the middle school boys volleyball. >> We we the administration received a very thoughtful comprehensive u amazing proposal for middle school volleyball. Um we did administratively review that. Um and what was communicated at finance and facilities was more of this
is you know that is not the concern. The concern is us moving forward with a a consistent process. Um we do have a policy that we have and and what I asked the board would would need to consider um to move this forward which which administration is happy to do. Um with the caveat that we move that that policy up to the top of the queue so that we can we can review that and revise that to to more clearly articulate what process administration is supposed to use when making these decisions because we have some variability there. Um and we want to make sure that moving forward with any additional clubs um that may come forward that we have a process to follow. Um so it is not it is not because of an inadequate
proposal or an intentional delay to to not see this program come to fruition. It has done amazing in its first year and we fully support it. I was there um to see them to see them play extremely well. Um so I think administration is simply seeking a more consistent process as we approach these and we're more than happy to see it added to the agenda um to discuss it and and have public comment. Um, but I think, you know, with the understanding that, you know, we want to move cautiously as we move towards our our final budget and move cautiously when we're looking at more consistent with with process as it relates to to policy. Okay. >> Anything else, Mr. Misia? >> Uh, no. I just want to emphasize that um regarding both the auditorium
project and the middle school volleyball, so middle school vol um the volleyball issue was mainly policy related. Um so that just like you said Dr. Triek will move on that forward and the uh the auditorium project the discussion that we'll have further when it is presented I want everybody to really just deep dive and think about everything that you want to discuss because we did a lot of work throughout the past five months uh discussing this. So when it comes forward it is as refined as we're going to get it. Um and you you're going to see the uh proposed design which is not a finalized design. This design is going to grow and change as the project does. So um any ideas that you have when you see the design, please feel free to
discuss and and and express that. Uh same with any kind of apprehensions you may have regarding the finances. Any questions you have on understanding the finances, please feel free to ask any of those questions you have when this comes forward. >> Thank you, Mr. I think that's it for committee reports tonight because there was you have >> the committ um education and tech will be meeting next Monday. ACMC we discussed three submissions for continuing ed and approved a meeting calendar for next year and we'll be meeting again in early June. >> Thank you, Mr. Carney. I believe this ends our committee reports. Moving on to new business. Do we have any new business? Seeing none, do we have any other business? Mr. Carney is giving me a thumbs up. It looks like Mr. Sakora has
something. >> Actually don't know which category this goes in. Maybe other business, whatever. Um, sorry, didn't mean to spring something on you. Exactly. But it's really just an ask. Um if if we could administration I guess not we as the board but administration first could look into and just start thinking about ideas for for how um you know we've heard not a lot but some some commentary from from the public on not so much the cell phone thing that is an a thing that's been talked about right but the the school issued district devices um and and ways we could be intentional with those I I think to like set up the right kind of blocking or whatever and and that that makes more people happy, I guess, more parents. So, just something to to
kick around is all >> took our planning items away from us for this summer. So, >> that's what I figured as we go into summer. I figured I just >> Yes. >> Not demanding anything. >> No, no, it's it's it's a topic that we plan to address um even more formally as we hit the summer planning months when we move into 20 26 27. So, >> yeah. Especially I wanted to make that an ask because you know we could make it like a policy action and I think it it could come up in policy eventually but you know we've got many priorities in policy and it takes a while to get through any of them >> sometimes you've seen I get a little frustrated that some but the policy needs >> made great progress tonight
so >> we did we did we really did we and uh policy has to have a a patient process and I have to remind myself of that too I >> I think it's a great topic I think it's one that we're talking about internally already. Yeah. >> How we can make adjustments or monitor or or all the things that you suggested we are talking. >> Sure. Yeah. Because I think you know I I think a large portion of the community you know not that we've ne necessarily heard from the large portion but I'm just guessing that a large of them are wondering and thinking to themselves like you know what should we be doing with with some of these devices. It's great that that we have them and I'm not suggesting we take them away
by any means right. We've invested in them. >> Yes. the Neos are here. So, >> yeah. Right. That's not the only reason, right? We It's important, I think, that it's great that we we are able to supply those devices to everyone because not not every child in our district can afford to have their own personal devices. Absolutely. Right. So, so that's all got to be balanced. >> That is and and I think we're looking at that in particular. >> Additionally, as grade band specific, what does K2 look like? What does three through six look like? What does seven eight? So, we're taking all of those into consideration as we move into next school year. >> Cool. >> We just we we just didn't want to kind of start a new process in the back end
of the school year either, >> right? >> Without thoughtful discussion administratively and we have a lot more time for that over the summer. >> I appreciate the update even though that was unplanned. >> Thank you, Mr. Score. Thank you, Dr. Twinkle. >> Mr. Carney, >> uh Southern Lehigh, tons of newspaper coverage, softball, lacrosse, baseball. Baseball had their second consecutive league championship and girls across six championships in a row. And speaking of sports, I saw the American College of Sports Medicine study this week showing participation in afterchool sports showed improvement in brain power, mental health, and physical fitness. It's too late for me, but not too late for students. Um, and speaking of movement, the American Academy of Pediatrics came out with an update to their recess guidance. for the first time in 13 years. They
noticed how recess they noted how recess develops emotional self-control, perseverance, cooperation, communication, conflict resolution, and leadership, and also has academic benefits. It supports the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth. So, please educators find time for those child- centered breaks. I still have a couple more. Um, last Tuesday I worked and there was a nice article on the morning call about students helping out in polling places. So, I tried to get a list of Southern uh Lehi students that helped at the polls, but they don't break it down that much, but just a shout out to Zach and uh Zoe who helped at the polling place where I was. It was great for them to see the um process and how thorough it is. um on the hour, every hour on the hour, they check the
voting machine, they check out the ballots that were passed out, they check out the sign in, make sure that those all match. And then there's a a bucket with a a bin with all the uh ballots. Um it's it's just very thorough. And so I'm I'm so glad that the students get to see that and helped out. Um, I watched the Freddy's the other day and just to see uh our performers, all the performers, but the Southern Lehigh ones especially, just pouring out their hearts. I talked to one of the performers and said, "There is nothing like being on that stage at the State Theater and uh hearing those cheers, getting chills now because I know what my daughter felt when she did it." Um, so um it was just really neat seeing. for our
young drivers. There's a P the Pennsylvania cell phone law. It's been on the books for a while. It um but for the last year, you only got a warning if you're on your cell phone, but it starts June 6th. And so, you will now be ticketed if you're on your cell phone, even at a red light taking a picture. And it's not just our young drivers. It's a reminder to myself, too. Um and for Memorial Day, again, seeing uh Candy was there. I don't know if anybody else was, but to see our community come out for Memorial Day and have uh so many of our students being readers honoring all uh um fallen military u uh personnel, but especially uh there was a gold star mother that was there. And the whole purpose at Upper
Sockin is to educate youth about Memorial Day. And so for us, for our students to participate, that was really special. the the um national anthem. Whoever sang that. Thank you, Erica. Is that her name? Emerson. Emerson. Amazing job. Uh Patrick playing the bugle. Um and all the readers. And I'm just going to pass on to educators. There's a program called Path of Honor and to parents. It's a free interactive guided character education program for middle and high school. It's launched by the Congressional Medal of Honor Society. There's 18 short videobased stories to explore the six core values of the Medal of Honor, courage, commitment, integrity, sacrifice, citizenship, and patriotism. It's called Path to Honor, and it's a great way to learn about some of these real life heroes and the qualities that they displayed. Thanks.
>> Thank you, Mr. Hernie. Seeing no other other business, uh, for your information, we have some conferences. We're out of field trips for the year, so just conferences at this point. Um, we have any visitor comments. We have seeing no visitor comment. May I have a motion to adjourn? >> Mr. Sakura, a second with Mr. Rager. Is that right? Okay, then we are adjourned. Thank you.
