We ask that you please stand. as we honor them and our country from the plane of our national air. [music] Amen. [music] Hallelujah. >> [music] >> Good evening everyone and welcome to the 2025 Ashlin Holiday Hoops Classic here at Ashlin High School. brought to you exclusively by WACA TV. >> My name is George Tubin. I'm joined here by basketball uh expert or basketball lover and let's go with basketball insight. >> Say expert not at all. >> From Dorian Bots, >> good to be with you all. Yeah, we're here for the final uh game where uh Ashlin boys have made it in and they're facing Malro today to for the championship
here of the uh the 2025 Ashley Hoops Classic. The Ashlin girls just won their game championship game over Sharon and boys are hoping to follow suit with that. Uh we're about to get underway here. Dorian, what are we looking for here from from Ashlin? >> Well, I think Ashlin needs to find their winning mentality. uh play with confidence, play with belief. I think it's going to be a matter of do they believe they can win. Malber is coming off a overtime win yesterday uh by four points. Uh came out a little slow, so we'll see how it happens today. Uh but we win the we win the tip off with an aggressive play there. I cannot be objective in this game at all as my son is one of the starters uh 32. But uh
I'm not paid for for objectivity, >> but you'll you you'll do your best job. >> I'll do my best job. >> Good rebound there by Ash. Quick kick out. Oh, up to Hugo. Hugo goes out, but rebound by Maldo. Morrow's racing up the court. That's a good play there. Uh Connor had the offensive rebound and forced the little bit too much adrenaline pumping there to get the easy layup. Ryan with the ball directing traffic over to Kaiwan. >> Nice nice rebound there by Rowan. Brings the ball up as Ashlin sets up. Ashley kicks it over to Igor. To Hugo Ball gets knocked away. Hugo recovers though with a shot. No good. gets back to the front. >> Nice pass underneath. Another pass underneath. >> Another great rebound there by Mason getting his own rebound looking.
>> Good defense there by Ash. >> Yeah, can't defensive rebound. Uh Logan bringing the ball up. Ashlin's key to victory here [cheering] is going to be limiting their turnovers of easy misplays like a bad pass or a dribble. Uh Malbor uh Malbor is going to have to uh navigate their speed of play and be able to match speed with Ashlin. I think it's going to be a a tight game in that respect. As long as Ashlin can start getting their nerves under control, start getting their focus down, I think they're going to play really well. Marra looks like they're attacking attacking them right now. >> Ash looks like they have a little bit of a height advantage here. Nice shot there by Jalo for the three. Ugor brings it up the court over to Rona.
Quick hands. Oh >> yeah, we got double cover. Tried to get it back over to Igor and just a little bit too much. [cheering] >> I think that's a time up by by coach. Uh doesn't like the speed of play. He doesn't like uh exactly what I was talking about. Just, you know, little frenetic play, easy turnover. >> Yes. >> Uh they've got the skill. They know they can do it. They've won a game. >> Trust in themselves. Believe in their own abil. Yeah. When things feel like they suddenly get too frantic and and you're not really thinking about what you're doing, >> you got to play at the right speed, >> right? >> I mean, it doesn't mean you play slow. You can play fast, but you know, play with purpose. >> Exactly. Play
under control. >> So, early timeout to uh take a little breath. Remember what we talked about. Do that. >> Absolutely. Absolutely. And I mean what you don't want to have happen is Malbor uh get their crowd into it, get their bench into it. Uh that happened yesterday in the game. They were behind a little. They started coming back and we know what it's like when a team starts getting the momentum in the field. Uh it's hard. It feels like everything's getting against you. So, >> right. Very true. >> All right. Marro's going to inbound bring the ball up. This is a great uh the whistles here. >> I think it's I think the reference said my bad. >> Yeah, I think it was supposed to be a half court inbound. Okay. >> Um not too
sure what difference it makes when they dribble up half the court, but clearly it does. Great defense by Ashlin moving around >> cutting off the X. >> Who's the foul on? I think that may have been on Hugo. >> Yeah, reaching in trying to get to the ball inadvertently hit the arm >> deep inbound. moving the ball around, driving Padulla with getting the hand up on that ball. >> Jacob Padulla is deceptively taller. Plays taller than he looks. He's got a great vertical. He's got a great reach. Gets a lot of rebounds. >> Nice inbound there. Watch him on the other side of the court. He gets a lot of rebounds on the offensive side and scores good pass. J again sneaks his way into the defense and gets a nice easy shot of the
[cheering] Eagle trying to move the ball around. Makes something happen. Takes the easy inside shot. The ball gets >> stuck and and who do they have get it out? the varsity high jumper. >> So if you listen to Malbra and watch him play, their bench is actively involved in the game. Cheering, noise, clapping, calling for players. It's something that Malbra brings to the table. They never have a player isn't actively involved. to Hugo Rona and ended under of Connor. Connor gets mauled underneath. >> Don't exactly know how Con wasn't called tonight, but fast break fast point. >> Good job there by Maldo. They were down the court. >> Yeah, >> Mar takes a seven nothing lead here very early on in the first quarter. >> Hugo with the fake gets up with it. Nice. >>
There we go. >> Nice floater. Gets that off the backboard. >> Get on the ball. Get those nerves out. It's You got points now. >> Moving the ball around. Oh, jaw by Rossi over the top. Just a pretty much a no-go zone >> between 32 and 24. >> Yeah, he got all ball and but the ball got knocked out of bounds. Maro three-point attempt goes wide. Rossi able to come down with a rebound. Eagle looking for something. >> Eagle. Oh, just [cheering] revers on the turnover there. >> Huba does a great job of getting in front of that play and eventually able to come down with a rebound. Great job by Hubo. >> Now up the court to Connor. takes the step off the backboard. There's a little bit of contact there. >> So, I
can think Connor is going to get frustrated with not getting fouls called on him, but that's kind of what he likes to do is drive in, get that foul. Course went the other way. >> It's frustrating when you're in getting mauled and you don't get a foul and then >> you turn around and get a foul called on you. Just got to brush it off. And next play kicking it around. Alona only up by five here early on. Shot missed everything. Grabbed it. Long pass up to Rona, but easily intercepted by Maldo. >> Connor with that. And Conor [laughter] number five. Mason just came down on top of Connor and So this is part of the belief thing with Ashley is keep shooting, keep taking the shots. They will eventually start falling. Believe that you
can actually keep your scoring. Don't rush. Don't >> go for the crazy long passes. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Ronin pull up and just short on that. >> Oh, great. Ashley, that's Ron's great and better shot. He's really good at that shot. He's still warming up. He'll get more of those. Just keep doing that drive. >> I mean, that shot right at like just at the edge of the paint. I mean, that that I mean, that's a gimme shot. >> I mean, Ron's coming off a league game against midfield. >> Nice pass there. Wow. Oh, Connor and Hugh. >> That's a Patrick St. Peter. >> We got to talk to Atletics director. Changed the magnetic field on that uh rim there. [laughter] >> Oh. Oh, nice pass underneath and could either be on PSP or Connor.
>> I think they called it on Patrick St. Peter. So >> yeah, number five for MRO got a huge jump uh yesterday in the in the uh first round game. Got a number of blocks uh that kept them alive in the game. >> It's very quick, too. picks both of them up nine to two. >> Bring it up. finds an opening and just can't get the ball in front. >> Number two, Kaiwan taking the ball off possible to number four. That's a long three. >> That was way outside the three-point Isaac >> foul on a foul on the rebound there. >> They called it on Patrick St. Peta. Um, not too sure what the foul was for. >> Blocking out underneath or long out to Kon. >> Another long shot that misses everything. >> If
I was Ashan, I'd be happy with that defensively because they're keeping the taking these long shots. They're not getting them. And now bring it up and let's use all of the clock on our driver. Ronan trying to get the ball around. See, I like that call by the way. That's uh a good foul that call. Uh Ron's getting a rest all the way off the court. PSP again. >> To be in a foul trouble here. Another >> steal there by Mason. Just >> fluent at the ball and yeah, easy layup. This is Malbro's uh strength is their speed. >> PSP crashes in with the with the easy lay. >> Beautiful play, Patrick. >> Nice job there. Beautiful play on the four here over Ashley. Three-point shot. >> Good shot that time. He was much closer.
>> Yeah, Kan right there at the three-point line. He hits it. Puts them up 10 points. So we get to one minute left in the first quarter. Getting crushed. Tight defense here by Maro and again then Maro steals but moves the ball back court. Corner picks it up. Oh, [cheering] great assist. Great shot by Ronan. >> Uh looks like there's a player for Malbor injured. Rolled his ankle on the rebound. So time out by the ref. It's number 12 for Malro Jal. Hope >> he's okay. >> Getting 10 to two of the bench to the Ashley basket. Will bring the ball up. 36 seconds left. [cheering] >> Problem called on Marro. Just not thinking, taking that one extra step. >> Yeah. give uh credit to the refs for observing that and actually watching them. >>
So this is an she's a freshman coming up uh made the varsity squad. >> Yeah, that's a foul. You're reaching in under his arms >> around his back. Yeah, that's that's not a jump ball. PSP to inbound. Gets it back to Ron. >> Anish Anish, >> I think. Sorry. >> I guess after Ronic. I knew Rona was eventually going to get it. [cheering] >> Ron's a key ball player, but uh unfortunately uh the turnovers, we just got to cut down on the turnovers. could play for the last shot of the quarter. They're already up eight. >> Yeah. >> Feel like they're trying to set up >> steal. Oh, and then they give it right back. >> Jeez, [cheering] that was 25 Rajan. So I think for Ashlin their biggest biggest goal right now is don't
focus on the score differential. Focus on bases. Good passes, good shots, high percentage shots. Trust what you can. You know you can score. You know you got bigs. You know you've got all handles. Try to put it together. >> Yeah, I agree. Arsenal seems to be playing a little frantically versus uh purposely. We got a point lead. Although last game I think um it was an earlier game. There was a there was a 10-point lead during the game and the >> uh team that was down came back and won the game. >> Absolutely. >> So 10 points at this early in a game really doesn't mean much. >> No. No. >> If if you can settle, if you can, you know, get get your legs under you and play your game. >> Absolutely. And Ashlin
has a couple of players who are disruptors. They come in and they disrupt the best players on the other side. Jacob Freriedick's one of those. Patrick Peter's another. They come in, they're physical, they get on, they get under the skin of the other player, cause a little bit of annoyance, and then suddenly you start seeing them come back and uh >> start seeing if that happens. >> Yeah, let's watch for that. I guess we once they figure out who the targets are on the other team, we'll see them go to work. >> It's going to be should be excellent ball here. Did Marbo just score? >> At the start of the start of the quarter. >> Oh, >> second quarter. >> Oh, yeah. >> Ashton won the >> Gotcha. I fell asleep after that. >>
What happens when you've been calling games since 11:00 this morning? >> Uh, right. That's what happens. >> Oh, lots of jump balls over there. >> Nice job, Brian. >> Good ball handling skills. I like that play. Now he play up to Patrick St. Peter and he calls gets draws the foul. >> Of course, Modell is trying to tell the ref that it was a travel. >> Well, we all see what we want to see, right? So, >> yeah. When's the last time a ref took advice from a player, Dorian? >> Uh, I don't think [laughter] that's ever happened, right? >> PSP will get a couple here at the line. Easily gets the first one. Nice rhythm to his shooting. Looks smooth, easy, relaxed. >> He does have a nice smooth free throw shot. >> Boom.
Oh, just short, but he gets the rebound. Nicely done. >> Beautiful play by Hugo Rossi setting up the pick. Nice easy pass and gets the gets the gets the uh easy layup. Great job there. turn that uh into a three-point play. >> The follow shot and then the follow pass. >> Oh, right off by Jacob. >> Tula just elevates and gets his hand on the ball. >> Nicely done. Oh, nicely done. >> There's that easy follow up. >> That was a Padilla play all the way around. He >> actually could have had a follow there, too, but Beautiful play. And just like that, Ashland has raced for 10 points, down by five. And you can see Malro beginning to feel the pressure. >> Yeah, we see Mal a little bit more jittery. >> Not too
sure where to go with the ball right now. [cheering] >> Three-point shot and he nails it. >> That ball did everything it could not to go in. Yeah, that went around the rim maybe four times before it eventually sank. >> I think that was a timeout Malbor. Nine-point game. Still plenty of time in this one. Seems to uh except maybe that last shot, they seem to have suddenly turned a corner like they That was a That was a in my opinion a um frustrated three-point shot. Like they couldn't get it in, couldn't get it in. Let's take the three-point happen to land. It'll happen sometimes. Just got to get a little bit of contest contesting on the three-point shot and they'll be okay. [snorts] On the offensive side, keep pressing. Just keep pressing. We've got
uh we've we've got bigger players. Their number five is big and their 24 is big, but I think we've got stronger players down on the post. Let's leverage that. Let's use that. Hugo very aggressive, very strong, uh, knows how to hold that ball out there and gets a lot of assists in games. >> Let's get him playing that way. >> Boxing out, more rebounding on both ends. >> Him and Purdulla have been playing for a number of years together and they've got good chemistry between them and we need that. We need a couple of national players to start becoming scorers for us. And so let's see who's going to step up and win that to Hugo. Hugo drives and gets pushed on the way in like not even going for the ball. It was just
a shove. >> Yeah, that was that was a little strange. He was coming in little right hand shove in the in the ribs. >> Yeah. That's nice confident free throw shooting by Hugo >> reducing that deficit. Now let's uh >> Nice fullcourt press. Nice fullourt press. Good >> job. Oh, they Oh, what a jump coming back. >> Patrick St. Peter with the steal right off there, taking out their biggest player. >> Yeah, left Doug totally open underneath, but PSP is able to get back. Knock the ball away. Hugo drives the lane just a little bit too much. >> Just too hard at high. Oh, he caught that. >> Climbing the ladder to get that ball. >> Another point attempt. PSP is able to come down with the rebound. >> Get it up for Ronin. >>
Ronin pulls up. >> There's the shot. Two points. >> So there's the disruptive play by Patrick San disrupted their offense. Uh physical bumping, keeping their players off balance and suddenly now it's four-point differential differential. A little over five minutes to go here in the half. >> Yeah, Malo looks a little lost. They're not too sure what they're wanting to do here. >> Nope. >> GSP just takes up space. >> He does. He's so good that here. This is his He likes driving in this position. Here he goes straight at the player. >> Rossi turning around, slips underneath and looking for the follow. Padulla comes away with it and with a great play. >> What a great play by Jacob Padulla. really really good knowing how to use that. >> He's just quietly in there just,
you know, he's just there. He he knows where to go. >> Yeah, >> there's Patrick with the foul. But that's kind of what he's in there for. Cause the disruption, >> you know. >> Yeah. >> If I could call Jacob Padulla one thing, he's like the silent killer. You don't hear. >> You're right. He's like, >> he whispers on the court and he's dead. >> Like the assassin. >> He is. He's like the assassin. >> That's his new nickname. >> Jacob assassin Padulla. >> I like that. We'll have to tell him tell him after the game. >> We talk him up and they sub him off. >> [laughter] >> say PSP2, you know, he's a big kid, but he's so quick. >> Yes, he's very quick. >> He's had a good football season on the
offensive line, bring it to basketball now. >> I think he was out all last season with a knee a knee knee injury, but he's come back strong. I don't see any I don't slowing down or at least >> not at all. I don't think he knows how to slow down. [laughter] >> No, there's a travel. >> There's a travel. Good call. Yeah, >> great defensive rotation by Ashland there. Let's see if they can >> Yeah, took us two steps, landed, and decided to take another step or two. >> Yeah, Malber's got their two bigs on the court right now. We've only got one big on and so here's an opportunity for us to really step up and make a difference here. In coming up, got three ball handlers. So, let's use them. [cheering] Tan is
being super aggressive um on defense. He is now Eagle getting the ball over the corner which set something up up top. >> Ronan moving around. That's his shot position. Oh, and nice shot from the paint. Just a little bit too much. Jack Martin almost got the slap off there. But there's number five. Just so big, so aggressive. >> Mason just so good in the paint for Malbor. back out again. Ryan moving the ball back and forth trying to find >> great defense. Wow. >> Another block. >> Great play by uh 24 Doug. Just kept going. Kept going. He's almost like a bulldog at the at some good block. Just the way the ball land balanced. Ashley wasn't able to grab those blocks. just now outside just a little bit too far. Yeah. >> So in
this rotation it's going to be a good competition between Connor Boxes and Mason number five for Malbor as to who wants the those rebounds more aggressively. Actually number 24 Doug in there too. He's got a lot of height >> and Doug. Yeah. So, shooting two foul. >> That foul was on Connor. >> Oh, 23. >> Is it 32 or 23? >> Uh, he called it on 23, but I think it was on 32. >> Yeah. >> Well, missigned foul there. >> Honest. Four-point deficit here for Ashlin with 238 left to go. Time out by Ashley. >> Time out by Ashlin. >> Not too sure why. I think the coach wants to probably talk through the next play after the free throw. >> I think so. I mean, the timeouts seem to have helped Ashlin. Every
time they come out of a timeout, they seem to kind of settle down and have a little bit more purpose in what they're doing. >> Much better response to this quarter. Uh coming starting the quarter 10 points down, now four points down. playing with more rhythm or composure and Malber has looked a little bit more out of sorts on the attack. So that's good. >> Excuse me. I >> think you're right. It's nice to see Ashlin too mixing up some of the players. You know, it seems like, you know, they have a little bit of a deeper bench maybe than they've had in the past where they have some, >> you know, good solid players they could put in and they do a good job. you know, I think in some previous years it just
wasn't that way. >> Right. Right. Uh, you know, they've got they've got some depth. They've got uh Noah uh waiting on the on the bench. Another big to come in and does well. >> Oh, yeah. We haven't seen Noah. >> Uh I tell you something I really enjoy about Malbor as a team. Their bench really let their players know where they're playing. >> When their defenders are stopping their ball handlers coming forward, their defenders let everybody know. And so they're cheering good plays and you really want that from a bench. You want a bench to be involved, to be talking, to be contributing to the to the play. >> Agreed. >> We don't have a big Ashlin student crowd here, you know, as loud as um I think more showing up now. A few more
showing up. >> That was a very scrappy play. Uh, everybody thought they had the ball, but the ball decided it wasn't going to be held. >> Malber gets away with the pass. >> Saying it was off Ashlin, so Woodburn. That's great defense by extreme. Good control movement by Malberation looking for nowhere. Nowhere to go. Oh, slip there. >> So after the first game today, uh the Ashlin coach was actually mopping the floors, clearing off dust. Ash floors tend to be a little dusty. There's been a lot of slips in this first half. Players should probably try to get their shoes a little damp on the side. >> Three-pointer ball. Yeah. Right now, number 24, uh, Doug for Malro is kind of winning the boxing out competition against Ashlin's bigs, Connor and and Hugo. Two minutes
to go. Eagle bringing the ball up. Ashlin down by four in the first half. Eagle being aggressive. Bring the ball in. Oh, well block. Turns around though and puts it back up. Balls up off of Ashlin. Bouncing around in there. Mason number five for Malbury is incredibly uh gifted at hiding his body. You don't see him and you go for the shot and suddenly he's up there for a block. Uh he hid behind the astron player and blocked that ball. Very clever. >> Great shot by number 12 again. to see who he was back there. >> Number 12. Nice nice shot over the Conor. Conor's going to >> draw the foul there. Smart play. >> Good job drawing the foul on number 24. Second foul on him. So, keep going at it. Conor has two
here. Bring it back to four. Little heavy. >> I don't know who's more nervous than the shot, me or him. [laughter] >> Oh, both shots are hit back. >> Fast break here by Malro able to put two points on the board. caught out with the pants down. Yeah, last break was back in uh contention. [cheering] Just couldn't get the ball. >> Oh, ball gets thrown away. >> See that right there? Mason with great defensive ability. the whole bench gets behind him and that loud volume starts getting to you when you're the ball handler. So you make a misplay with the pass. >> Well, Kan and Mason are doing such a good job at pressing. Um, >> yes. >> Oh, just missed the three. Good break there for Ashlin on the rebound and Roland want to
bring the ball up. just needs to get something set up. Oh, they're going for the steel. >> That's a good three-point shot. Oh, come on, go now with the ball right into the middle of the corner, but over the back. Ball gets tipped. Nice job of uh Malro. >> Oh, wow. That's three blocks by Malro on those shots. National did everything they could. Blocked behind, blocked in front. Uh so they got some stuff to talk about in halftime. Jacob Fertic was on there causing a little bit of disruption. Uh so Ashton Kenny regroup uh eight points behind better than first quarter. They came back by two. Uh they were within two points at one point in so they can come back. They can win. Do they believe it? >> Right. We'll see what adjustments they
make here at halftime. Uh when we come back we'll take a short break here. We're at the uh boys final. of the 2025 Ashlin Holiday Hoops Classic here from Ashlin High School on WACA TV. We'll be back shortly. >> [music] [music] >> Heat. Heat. I don't know. Hey, hey, hey. [music] Hey, hey, hey, [music] hey, hey. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey, [music] hey, hey. >> [music] [music] >> Hey, goat. >> [music] >> The winner of the movie John. Everybody, welcome back to the second half of the final playoff game for uh the boys in the 2025 Ashlin Holiday Hoops Classic here at Ashlin High School on WACA TV. I'm George Tubin. I'm joined by Dorian Fatas. >> Good to be with you. >> Calling the game. Great. Dorian I got third fourth game today.
>> Yeah. My third, your fourth. >> Yeah, we got a situation as Malro 25, Ashland 17. Ashlin's going to look to make up some ground here as we come into the uh second half. Eagle bringing the ball up. Ashton coming back with their starters for the third quarter. And uh long shot there by Ronin. Ronin from the paint. Got short again. Hugo able to get the rebound. Takes a step in and a little bit long on that. >> And Ashen gets a turnover ball. Uh as a running back hand stuck out, knocked the ball out of the play's hand. So, two good opportunities, two good shots. They just got to get their shots to roll. So, keep trusting their their play. >> Malo's beginning to read that inbound play. They got to change it up.
Go a receiver. You can see some of the skills there are not. Uh, >> absolutely. >> Oh, a little bit heavy on that. >> [cheering] >> Oh, and now >> looked like an easy layup, but a little bit too fast there. Yeah, take advantage of it. Ronin up and gets that one in. Nice job. >> And Connor, like all players when they miss the shot looking for the foul. So we'll see how how they go this way around the and then wow that was a good play coming in taking the hits bouncing off scoring scoring the basket not the biggest player on the road team but he's driving the basket constantly does a great job good job pressing on defense too do a good job getting around Not out to Hugo. Hugo all the way
across to Padulla. Boxes. Boxes. Kicks it back out. Igor looking for some room. Looks for some help. It back to Hugo. Hugo looking. 6 seconds left on the clock. We're going to see a shot go up. Great shot there. Good movement. Getting a nice open three for them. Coming back. only up by five. Oh, >> unfortunately, uh, Ronin got sucked by a fake dribble and just couldn't stop. >> Yeah, >> first follow of the quarter. [cheering] >> But good nature to help the player up, keeping the sportsmanship good. >> What a good shot on there. He was having a great game for Malro. >> Bringing the ball up. >> A good job of driving that ball in deep [cheering] now. Looking for help. Kind of drive the baseboard. Uh lost the butt for the trouble.
Rebound up here [cheering and applause] down by eight. Kicks it back out. Nice in the middle over. >> Great block. Dugo gets a hand on that one but somehow Oh, and then another block by Fes. Wow, >> Connor just all ball. Nice job up there and then it's going to be a good pass over to Hugo, but Ashley player so the marble play was so fast. >> Yeah, >> good job by getting great. >> Yeah, getting back doing that. >> Ashley needs to just slow down their attack a little bit. Play a little frenetic sometimes on on the offense. Oh, I thought he had that shot in. >> I did, too. >> Good foul. I >> think his arm got hit enough that it just threw it off course. >> Yeah. >> Oh, he drew
the foul. That's >> So, take the composure. Take the breath. Oh, >> so Patrick St. Peter coming in bringing the deception's got a player hiding deep in the back court here. >> Still back there doesn't know how PSP notices him back there. Marlo taking their time now setting up plays. [cheering] >> Looks like they're going to go to uh Elon, which was a hot hand right now >> and definitely playing more composed on the attack >> into the middle. They got to call a foul. on >> number five. Yeah, >> call on number five. >> So, uh they decided that Hugo was in a shooting motion on that foul. >> Oh, okay. >> So, >> the the ref is always right. >> And the bra coach doesn't agree, so he wants an explanation. Well, in
my sport, I played volleyball a lot. We used to always say the the ball never lies. So, >> so let's see if Hugo can make make good on this free throw. >> Nice job. Nice job. >> Another two. Let's see if Marvel can get back. >> It's a twoon one situation. [cheering] Good job by Pad like that. >> If you're going to go up and make the foul, you have to make sure that the person doesn't score as well. >> There's no chance of that ball going in. >> Yeah. And he's only on two fouls, so it's safe safe foul in the third quarter. >> J now. Well, you got number 12 Jay Le and number two Kaiwan who are both playing really well. Got hot hands. smooth shooting each time goes. Okay. Well, they're
number 24. He's getting off number 11. So, Ashland has a little bit of the hunt advantage potentially to bring the ball up. Marvel giving him a little bit of breathing room. to the top of the key and he drains it. Two points. Uh just a foot away from the three. That's good turnaround. Yep. Almost at the free throw line. Short. >> Good job with Hugo going off. Oh, then he goes to give the ball away and Marwell player reaches in and takes it away. There's Tan again. Yeah, Patrick was trying to avoid the travel on the roll over and unfortunately Marbor standing right over got the ball. >> Yeah, >> now Mason back for some free throws. >> Marble with a sixpoint lead. >> Very quiet. >> Ashlin's trading with Mo right now. Point for
point point for points. We've got somebody need somebody to go on a roll, somebody to disrupt the play, somebody to do something a little quicker, a little different. So, we'll see who who's the player going to be who's going to step up and take that role. >> Yeah, it just takes a couple of stops to think this entire game. >> I'll go up by eight. >> Yeah, looking composed. I like the way Eagle brings it up. >> Ball drop, but now everybody's jumping in. covered by Igor. Quick pass over to Hugo and just a little bit too much and [cheering] >> Malro with the score. >> That fast break play by Malro. They're very composed and good at that. Patrick's going to try and go the whole way. Not too sure what happened there, but
he lost the ball. Lucky for Ashlin, Marbor threw that ball away. >> Yeah. The Marbor fast break is like the whole team comes down together. It's one. It's amazing how well they do that. >> And they're also taking zones. They're not all going to the same spot. They're taking different zones. So, there's always somebody contesting for the play. >> Yeah. >> Back to a 10-point lead for Oh, Malro coming back with attempted fast break but slowed down. Ashley back in defense. >> Step through. No roll. Mason with the ball again. This time Hugo gets it back on. Good job by Hugo elevating bringing the ball up. Patrick recover that ball and goes in for the layup. You know, when you look at the point difference, eight points right now, but Ashland has easily missed four
or five easy layups. Just adrenaline getting a bit better than this game is a lot closer if Ash gets those layups. >> Wow. [cheering] Mulbra gets there. So, we got to come back and do something in response. But again, whole quarter still to play. A >> soft turnover there. Unfortunately, Ronan took his eye off the ball as it was passed. >> Missed the catch. >> Oh, three-pointer by Isaac with easy. Go all the way. >> Hugo going all the way. [cheering and applause] >> Foul called on Marro there for the shot. >> Good job by Connor under there just going right up with it, but got hit >> way up. I'm getting a little concerned about Ashlin's body language right now. Walking with slumped shoulders, hands on hips a little. This is the this is
the part of belief. Just you're not out of the game. You got a whole quarter still to go. Believe in your ability to come back, make those shots, >> right? Start making >> make the easy ones. >> Yeah. And Malro is playing with, you know, shoulders high confidence. >> There we go. There we go. >> Get that confidence back. You know you can do it. >> Let's have a couple of stops here. >> Yeah. 12 points down. End of the quarter. We can >> less than a minute to go here in the third quarter. >> Driving the lane and I don't know what that foul was. Um, >> well, the ref saw something that Hugo didn't. So, >> yeah, Mason actually just lost the ball. Like, Hugo's hands weren't up there. He didn't block it.
Didn't even put his hand up. His hands were down and he >> somehow got a got a foul. >> Hence the incredulous look on Hugo's face. >> Ball told B doesn't go. Well, coach Nor want wants to have Hugo just take a breather and get a break. >> Not letting him play frustrated. >> On a second free throw nails that one can do here. Fullourt loaded >> pushing the ball forward. >> Yeah, there's a foul. I mean, he's reaching in on him, putting his hand on his hip as he dribbles up. >> Yeah, they had one to give up, though. So, >> yeah, >> PSP on the inbound. >> We got No, subbing in for Hugo. So, two big players, number 25 and 32, setting up the screen. >> Ronan driving up the middle, kicks
it out with PSP, loses footing. He's running in the middle and just couldn't hit it. I >> mean, there's that layup opportunity. >> Yeah, those are easy shots in the middle. >> Oh, well disrupted by going to Going to see a three here from Malro. >> No, way off. Balls taken by PSP. And that'll be the end of the uh third quarter. Malboro up by 11 points. 42 to 29. Yeah, 13 points. >> I mean, this is going to come down to Ashan is getting good looks. Ball's just not going in. >> Uh, and so I think the takeaway for them if they're going to watch tape afterwards is trust your shot. Uh, maybe spend a little bit more time in the paint taking those shots in warm-ups. Get that rhythm going. They definitely are
making the plays. Uh, you know, five or six layups go your way. It's a whole different ball game >> to your point. Yeah, it just comes down to the basics, you know, take >> execute the plays, be be, you know, block out of offensive reason. >> Absolutely. I mean, we we used to talk about this uh uh the difference between professional players and amateur players isn't the spectacular players. Yes, the professionals can do the spectacular plays, but what professionals do is they do the basics at a higher level. uh they dribble faster, they block bigger at a higher level. Let's just trust your basics. Uh every single one of these Astron players knows the basics. Uh they need to step into it and trust it. Malber is showing them how to do it. So take
a lesson from your opponents, >> right? And a little bit of confidence to get those balls to drop, especially the ones inside the paint or the layups. I mean, those are the ones >> you're right there. You have to hit those. You maybe miss some of the >> the distance shots, but >> Right. gives you a much higher percentage on the inside shots. Now the pressure comes on Ashley because with the 13-point differential now they want to start shooting threes to make up that difference which becomes uh a lower percentage shot. So line driving the lane and gets it in. >> I don't know how he got that shot off. That was from his hip. Left hand. Oh, a great shot. left hand under him. Very hard to stop. He's doing a great job with
the ball handling there. Ring it up the defender all over him. Ronan can't get those to drop. Good. I mean, every time Ashley gets up, you need to get something set up and get that ball to go. Nice, nice rebound there by >> Great rebound. Keeping it up. Noah, I think has a physicality to take on number five. Mason for Malber. >> Yeah, they seem to get a play set up here and actually execute something over Connor. Connor takes a and just not falling down. >> No, >> it's a tough shot for Ashton. >> Another high percent shot inside the key that just didn't drop. >> Yeah. And >> now a three-pointer and he nails it. Uh, >> no. The blew the whistle before I think was a foul. Little push 25 foul on Noah
and Isaac are just doing a great job on outside the key. >> Yeah, Malber is playing with confidence and belief. Uh giving themselves easy setups. Uh time out by Malbra, I think. >> Okay, 642 to go. I want up by 50. >> Yeah, >> I think you know if you're if you're MRO, you're looking to maybe slow play a little bit and just >> not make any mistakes. >> Yeah, I think they'll pass the ball around, get their open shot, use up all the clock. >> Um, yesterday Ashlin was in the lead and started rushing their shots. They might need to do that here. Not rush, but certainly play a little quicker. >> Uh, but again, they're not they're not not getting their opportunities, >> right? >> It's just the ball's not going in for
them. So, I think they need to find out who the hot hand is here. You know, like every gamer, it's it's different, right? You know, shoot lights out one game, next game you can't hit anything. But >> usually there's somebody that's going to be hot and >> absolutely >> let's figure out who that person is and you know where they need to be to make that happen. >> And uh we're in the fourth quarter, but some of those players have been sitting for three quarters, haven't played. So it's going to be a hard ask to have them come in and shoot hot. >> Absolutely. So uh so coach needs to well somebody needs to step up uh and kind of who believes in their capacity somebody on the court right now who could do it
is Padulla right >> he's a great player uh you know the >> Jacob assassin Padulla can let he can bring bring the death here so let's see if he can get a shot off right you can't keep doing the same thing over and over expecting different results >> isn't that the definition of insanity or something like Again, look at that. That e bounce and roll in Ashlin. They bounce and roll out. Not much you can do about that. >> or K1 comes in on somebody that's a foot higher taller than he is, but he's able to float the ball up and h it over them. >> And so with a great block from >> Oh, that's intelligent play by Mason. He saw Roman was underneath and ran into him uh to bring the foul. >>
Call Roman on the foul there for then jumping for getting in front of him. >> Right. Uh very clever play by Mason again. This time he's short, but >> he even looked at his hands as though what happened after the game? He's like how how is it that short? Let's go. Get the ball. >> Good shot. Good shot. There we go. >> Get one back. Now we need a defensive turnover. You can't just keep letting them score on. >> I think that was on 34 PSP. PSP's on four fouls. >> Ashlin's on three fouls. >> One more to give. >> Inbounding to Kan with a long Wow. bank three was from downtown. He was like maybe three feet beyond the three-point line. >> Oh yeah, that was uh I didn't think it was a good
shot opportunity, but it went in. So >> another steal. >> Steal by K. >> And now we have a 20point difference. National only has 31 points on the board. >> I mean, the scoring is the challenge, right? They're defending well. They uh doing offensive well. I mean, you you expect teams at this level to score 50 points in four quarters. So, it's not like they're not defending well, but uh right 51 points for the other team doesn't shows, you know, decent defense. It's the 31 points that you really can't live with. Another steel. >> Yeah. P get the ball up. Take it all the way. >> Oh, gets called for the charge. No. >> Uh, no. Fallon Maron. He wasn't He wasn't set. If you're a defender, um, and PSP is coming at you, you
got to make sure you're set, you know, to and get the charge. You don't want to take that punishment for nothing. >> Absolutely. Absolutely. And uh yeah, you know, PSP has has got a little side step in his attack, so you can't just stand there. He's not going to go through. He'll go around you. Uh >> you want to look at the sneak back again, but >> yeah, we're getting to uh three-point play uh percentages here. I like this. Ash's going full court press uh forcing them to uh not have time on the other side. >> Look, I got look at they got kill just completely open by himself early on. >> But you know what? Malber is playing slow. Y >> look at them. They're taking all their time. They're draining the clock. >>
There's the turnover. There we go. >> There we go. Nice job there. Good hands by Hugo and then able to pick it up. >> Three-pointer. There we go. Good >> ones. >> Oh, you see now smart timeout by Malbor. They won't let momentum build at all. >> Smart, smart, smart timeout by Malro. >> I mean, Ashlin crowd gets into it, starts cheering, Malbor goes timeout, crowd goes silence. >> If you were the coach, you would do that, too. >> Absolutely. It's a good play. >> It's the right thing to do. Still looking at a 15-point game here. >> Um, which is going to be tough to overcome. >> Well, you take the time out and now for a whole minute you get to sit and stare at 15 points behind. Plays on you psychologically. >>
Uh, the better way to think about it is we're 3-0 up in the last play. So, let's do that again. >> Right. That last run, you know, good strong defense. They they really pressed. They got a turnover and they came down with Good play and score. >> Do that a few times and get yourself back into the game here. >> It's remarkable. So much of sports is mentality and self. >> Oh, so much. >> And uh Ashland uh as a team needs to find a way to build their belief in themselves. They have the ability, they have the the shots. >> Can they believe the ball into the basket? I think it's it's it's something you talked about earlier too. It's you know playing as a team >> getting you know the defense they do
a pretty good job at but it's on the offensive side just a little bit different movement. >> Yeah. When Malbor comes down you said this on the fast break everybody's coming down. They're coming down as a team. Everybody knows their assignment knows where they're going. Look how composed Mason is. He's just not flustered at all. Coming down the court, playing like a senior who's seen this before. Shark down the 12. Still moving the ball around. Oh, almost an errant play there. Oh, nice play by Patrick St. Peter on the block, but he's going to kick off a foul. I thought it was >> foul by the uh [sighs] ref. >> That's Patrick St. Peters fouled out now. >> Coach Norm's trying to protest it, but uh nobody's going to. >> So, he takes off Patrick
San Peter, who's uh played really well, had a great round. He's really upset to foul out. Uh but brings in Jacob Ferdick, the other disruptor. >> Trading one disruptor for another. >> Absolutely. Absolutely. You got to do something to uh get this ball back for Molver. >> Fuk has better hair color. >> There you go. There's a miss. >> That's a rare miss for K. >> It is. Just money. One more throw. 309 left to go. We've got a 15-point deficit here for Ashlin. 16 point deficit here for Ash. >> Yeah, >> time out again. >> I think that was Ashley because that time >> must be Ashley. Yeah. >> Is um Michael Shriber injured? >> Yeah, he's uh fractured his wrist. So I think he's uh out for a few weeks. >> Oh, okay.
>> And he's one of the top players, top scorers for the team. I was going to say >> that's part of the differential you seeing is uh Michael Shrivever's not here, not able to contribute. >> He's usually a forward, good scorer. >> Good scorer, good forward. Drives hard at the basketball, makes other players get fouls. Yeah. >> Often gets rebounds. I remember him from third grade uh when I was the assistant coach for the third and fourth graders with Connor and him. Um, man, that third grade team, uh, I think it was third or fourth grade, uh, they they went to the championship game and lost the championship game by two points. >> And to watch these third graders just have belief in themselves and, uh, and now seven years later or whatever it is,
uh, seeing them play now, one thing I can tell you is they're bigger. >> Yeah. A lot better. >> They're bigger and stronger. And I played one-on-one against Connor the other day and he just demolished me like >> just ran straight straight over me. So >> we'll see what Ashton can do here. Just pull up that just good rebound out again. Again stutter step and this time short. >> Nice hustle. >> So close. >> What an effort there by Fick going after that ball. >> Good effort. Nice job. One take away racing up the court. Slows it down and then ball hit away. Oh, >> wow. >> Oh, they got a shot fouling. But I think uh I think Ashlin at this point is kind of saying the game is over. They got to start
fouling. >> Yeah, time is uh >> Yeah, Malro's friend. >> The Malbor players are uh just passing the ball around as a keep away. Number 12 is even shaking his head. He's not even interested. Way short. about 16. >> Yeah. Well, it's a good shot. Finally, it's going in, but uh might be too little too late. >> I think it is a 14-point drop of circle. >> There's the disruptor. Jacob Puller is uh not Pulla, sorry. Jacob Vert. He never gives up. >> No, >> ever. He is. >> He's not afraid of physical contact whatsoever. >> Um, in that previous rotation up, uh, gave a little bump to Mason. Mason got a little frustrated. Ended up in a turnover. That's a disruptor. >> Yeah. >> Um, Ashton's at five foul. So, >> this will be
>> Yeah, not bad. The uh >> be a fabulous turnaround if they could make the 14 point high school gym is fairly quiet right now. >> Oh yeah. >> With a minute 30 to go missed. >> That's a captain. Ryan >> second free throw that one Oh, you see Oh, >> draws the foul. >> Mason saying that was a block and they're saying thanks for the foul. >> Yeah, it was a good block, but just came in with the body a little and came into a little bit. >> I will say the refs have been consistent. So, >> if Mason went straight up, I think he could have got a clean block and said jumped into It's his first one. >> Well, different crews for each of the games uh over the two days, so
uh there's no bias. >> Nicely done. >> Oh, kind of kind of a blind uh layup there. Yeah. >> Just >> Yeah, they just kind of move it away. >> It's going to be a long minute for Ashlin. >> Absolutely. [cheering] >> What a nice takeaway. Bringing the ball up three-point short. Good effort. Ball picked up by good, but eventually Ryan gets it. >> Foul on Hugo. >> Yeah, it doesn't really matter right now. 36 seconds to go. I mean, you get the feel people are just going through the motions to finish the game. >> Yeah. >> And end it. And Malbor will, unless something changes, will go away as the clock. Classic champions for 2025. >> Yeah, Marbor looked very good today. One played very well. Mason played well. >> Um, J played played
I mean, you know, the whole team played well, but was some of his standards. >> Yeah, >> another good free throw. So, 16 points in the lead. Uh, pretty much on the shot clock. Maybe a second difference. >> Coach still asking him to play at 100%. Ronan misses. >> That's the story of the day. Another block by Mason. >> Yeah, if I was um Marra, I just let Ashlin shoot. It doesn't really matter, you know, don't get a foul. Just >> Yeah, >> get this finished, you know, and then >> uh and that kind of is the story of the game right there, right? Turnovers uh too easy. Ashland unable to get their layups in, get their shots in and uh unfortunately falling today uh to Malbor 5539. Malbor had a great game play coming
game plan coming out uh rely on their their bigs uh to dominate in the paint, have their shooters get their shots and they were uh high percentage shots and they made them. Ashland uh got the open plays, wasn't able to get the ball to fall over. So unfortunately rim not fallen uh in this game. >> Yeah. Yeah. Morrow came to play. I mean they kudos to Maro. I mean absolutely they they played very well. >> That gives Ashlin you know a little bit more experience, something more to think about, something more to work on. >> Um you know still very early in the season. >> Absolutely. Uh maybe uh you know the the coach might take this and and say we got to do some shooting practice or maybe he sees something others don't. That's
why he's the coach, >> right? So, >> uh, who knows what they'll say in the locker room, but, uh, yeah, now Ashland, uh, uh, keep going. That's all I can say. You got, you got to keep going. This is how you pick yourself up. Uh, you got a whole season ahead of you and you know what to Marro, the uh, boys champion of the 2025. With that, we'll end our broadcast for today um on WACA TV. Thank you so much, Doria, for joining me. Great to be with you. >> All right, with that, we'll sign off. Thanks for listening, everyone. >> Happy New Year, everyone. >> Happy New Year.
