ma'am because we can hear you with a microphone welcome to the board meeting mr silva [Music] hello everyone my name is renata de silva and what i'd like to address today is a topic that is very important to me and dear to my heart and also to my child is the topic of crt is that permissible sir absolutely okay thank you you do have some limited time mister i'm going to be very quick basically what i like to talk about crt in my opinion and it's racist and the reason why is myself i came to united states i am an immigrant a legal immigrant in this country i came in 1996 and the only language that i was fluent on was portuguese i spoke high and bi and this country have embraced me has took
me and i took every opportunity that came before me so i'm not a victim i am a victor and i'm a part of an organization that is called blexit uh blacks it stands our mission is american as a non-partisan organization created to promote educational initiatives pursue criminal justice reform educate minorities communities regarding american founding principles and highlight the importance of free markets and entrepreneurship to overcome poverty so i believe everybody has a chance everyone has a voice and what i'm seeing is i want to see what uh crt has to empower my child what is that movement it's gonna do like all the what is that teaching it's going to bring to influence my child and her upbringing i don't think nothing i believe you cannot move forward if you always look and stay in
your past i believe myself i am the result of the american dream i am a free american i have come to this country with no hopes today what i have i don't depend on the government i don't take anything by the government i am the vice president of the company uh called excellent transport usa i led many many uh management companies before and there were no there was never a barrier because i do not define myself for the color of my skin but for the content of my character that's who i am that's who i stand for and i'm here just to share with you also that this cancel this is a canceled culture i what i see what this is going to bring to united states this country is called united states of america
is not the divisive state of america i believe we are here to stand in unity and we're here to bring forth uh what we have to transform and to bring unity instead division and crt everything that entails the name uh the the the up for the bringing the the the statements that comes before us it's racist and that's my opinion thank you sir thank you for the opportunity [Applause] the next speaker is karen parker on summer reading esser funds and sel welcome ms parker [Music] thank you um yes karen parker um i have reviewed some of the summer reading lists through berkeley county i have found anti-racist baby racial consciousness developed younger than many people realize and this picture book will give parents and caregivers a launch pad for having these important conversations with their
littles have anybody ever met has anybody ever met a racist baby a baby that's racist my fourth grader is asking me to do this year what is racism mommy another book i met online the hips on the drag queen go swish swish swish written by the first drag queen story our performers this picture book will get kids moving and proudly flaunting their most glamorous selves berkeley county's got to do better [Music] who how we will be digging these answers will be answered why is this approved why is this okay for my kindergartner to come home with the drag queen swish wish wish flaunting and glamorous where are the abcs where are the one two threes where's the writing where's the character love kindness unity sharing caring for your fellow classmates us for funds proposed priorities
american history and civics education from the department of education document citation 86 fr20348 priority proposed priority one projects that incorporate racially ethnically culturally and linguistically diverse perspectives into teaching and learning acknowledgment of the 1619 project from new york times landmark systemic racism there are ties to these funds that we're accepting there are ties to the funds that we're spending beware of the hand that feeds you you are the stewards of the money we want transparency of how the funds are going to be spent we will be watching eyes are on the board eyes are on the superintendent eyes are on the principles eyes are on the teachers okay um i y'all why do we have drag queen books birth through preschool why do we have anti-racist baby it's a baby babies aren't born with hate
in their heart is taught and if we allow it to be taught in our school system we have problems look at our board look at the diversity mr jackson have you been oppressed can you maybe bridge the gap here and help us help us find love and unity bridge the gap we're begging thank you mr parker [Applause] the next speaker is anthony sims on activism mr sims look like you're just getting started hello everybody propaganda deflection techniques can you move the mic thank you it's all propaganda our local politics are being infected with extremist ideology by extremist factions q and on is one of them they're being told to come in at the local level at school board county council and to challenge them if they don't have or prescribe to the same extremist ideas
that they possess this is dangerous because it's given to them at face value very innocent but we know throughout history that this is not the first time this has happened we are seeing it here now with has been officials trying to come up here and drum up old business that has been settled to create more division for what purpose why local officials at the local level it involves activism and action and to have activism in action involve some agitation ruffling feathers and to want that change and not have it with agitation which is like wanting the ocean without its mighty roar it's not possible it's needed the history is the same socialist marxism communists right that's what they called mlk social security medicare how much longer are we going to allow this cry wolf mentality
of this old played out playbook it's not the truth the truth is we are not our grandparents with a simple click of a button a snap of a video we can activate and mobilize people to come out here just as much if not more and provide the voting that needs to get done to keep us where we need to be and moving forward and not backwards to deny history to not think about it to not look back set you up for a very dangerous situation this moment can transition into a movement and that movement is starting to feel a lot like a man who got into good trouble a man who had a dream on a mountaintop and that movement comes with boots on the ground that we are able to mobilize and we are
here to help and keep what we believe also is true and that is supporting our teachers that is supporting american history and schools at the local level it will get done thank you thank you sir the next speaker is mr christine keyes the comment is need for more teacher support in the classroom due to students with needs and extra attention welcome miss keys [Music] this will be shorter than three minutes i guarantee um we found out ma'am i i really think you need to try to speak directly into the microphone i know you have a child but we can't hear you this will be shorter than three minutes i guarantee it we found out during the school year that inadvertently during one of the e-learning sessions that the teacher had what was approximately one-third of
her class with students that needed more than extra time so we're thinking that this school needs to find a way to have extra help in the classroom or find a way to spread the teachers with the students a little less they shouldn't be that way in the classroom they should have either extra help like assistance of some sort because it's harder on the class students it's elementary level the students to be able to get more attention and get more help so it's like adhd it's like add it's something where they need a little bit more help it's elementary level so if there's some way to get the funding to be able to do it that way it's harder on the students i'm not sure if it is the coded situation but it is something that
helps them and when we were reading about the way the whole berkeley a lot of the students were being held back or find a way to be moving forward with what they were doing that's something they can do to help them because a lot of the students were looking at being even with the testing scores it seemed like that would be a way a lot of them were being held back in 8th 9th 10th that type so it's some way they can get more help but i don't know if other students if some of the other grade levels were having the same problem or not there's no way to find that out and i wouldn't want to know but that's the way when you're looking at all the school districts you might want to find
some way to help the the students and the teachers that way thank you man the next speaker is uh terry hardesty on the bearer for you and crt good evening members of the board superintendent jackson um i've been chronicling uh a foia that was had a finding by eeoc against this district back in 2014 against david barrow when he was an administrator in the school district and they found that he was uh they found against the district for a violation of sexual harassment excuse me sir what year was that i think excuse me this is my time mr barrow you're making an erroneous statement this is my making an erroneous statement it's not factual but please i can keep coming back and reading i'm sure you will help yourself okay thank you can i get
my time back yes you amen based on that uh and the community standard in this county it really expects our leaders to be of utmost character and because of that i'm asking for your resignation this evening as a member of the berkeley county school board secondly uh i'm really disturbed about critical race theory if you kind of look around and think about it it comes from critical theory which is a study and proponent of marxism and marxism is meant to put people in groups and divide them and have everybody fighting each other my look around this room okay and berkeley county is 70 percent white i look around this room and i look at the cabinet and i look at employees and certainly this county based on what i see is not racist you got
here on merit thank you if you're going to teach crt you're teaching children to think about race all about race and white people are inherently racist that's critical race theory this is nuts and if you do this it's educational malpractice you need to be filling young minds with i can no matter what i can fill them with critical thinking skills you can not that other people are racist and other people hate them and how in the world people that propose and promote critical race theory are in my mind that my mind is that i'm racist all the time that's absurd this whole thing is absurd and what you're seeing in this country are mothers mothers who do not want their children to be indoctrinated the next speaker is latricia and i cannot pronounce the last
name i apologize latricia there's no particular comment but you're welcome to come to the podium mem and speak to us okay hello good evening i appreciate y'all let me come and speak yes um what i want to speak to you all about is racism um aka um critical race theory um children are not born without racism in their mind are they they weren't born to seek color or to think about um a person in color or what color a person is they are taught that you know and it can be again at home but if somebody should be taught something that should be taught at home not in the school the teacher isn't it's not the teacher's responsibility to teach a child about race or racism that's up to the parents number one but going
back to the racism if you teach a child that if you bring that to a child's foremine and you teach them that it's all about their race i'm i'm a black person i don't believe that i'm judged by my color my skin but i know i'm judged by the contents of my character it's my character it's who i am as a human being and how i live my life that i should be judged for but not because of the color of my skin my color my skin does not define me nor does it define my children and you do not need to bring that to the school to teach the children that and i love what martin luther king would always say judge me by my character but do not judge me by the color
of my skin and do not judge my children by the color of their skin thank you man [Applause] our last speaker is grayson dixon a student perspective welcome young man pull that microphone down so we can hear you my name is grayson dixon and and i am indeed and i am in the seventh grade sometimes it feels like schools only care about the money and not the students education i miss how schools used to be before covid and the critical race theory started and i hope it changes back to the way it was before it's unfair that parents don't have a say in what schools teach their children nowadays to the people that say white kids have an advantage over other races that's wrong and that's actually racist all races have the same opportunities and
it's up to what you do with those opportunities i am a white boy i am legally blind and i have a blood clotting disorder and a growth hormone deficiency so i have lots of kids have adventures over me but i don't blame them for it my best friend has brown skin he isn't my friend blizzard how he looks but because he is a good person and we have fun together if this crazy critical race theory is taught he might not want to be my friend anymore because i have white skin and he and others my judge me because of that um on they might judgment only that that's wrong that's racism please don't let's this kind of stuff that makes us not like each other because of the way we look in our schools thank
you thank you [Applause] the next item on the agenda is number five and that is any action is required for items from executive session and let me say we have several uh prospective employees here tonight we're going to entertain those recommendations but for each person after you are recognized and voted on if you would stand and and maybe get a photo up with whomever you came with and and we'd love to to have that opportunity for you to share who's with you and get a picture so our first person mr chair i move to accept the recommendation of the administration to name ms kelsey lawrence as the new assistant principal at phillip simmons high school with the starting date of july 14 2021. second i have a motion for mr wright in a second for

contract extension and sale of 45 nomad compactors to carolina waste inc miss smith you are again recognized thank you i'm going to ask marcie abrahamson to join me at the podium to discuss this agenda item [Music] good evening madam chairman chairman barrow members of the board we presented this offer from carolina waste back in february on february 9th and the board approved it however um carolina waste has come back to us and they inadvertently left off some figures and they cannot honor the offer they um made initially um i placed a comparison of what figures they omitted they omitted the capital outlay for the motors and the labor from their cost and when they figured out the lease payment it was they're actually going to lose money if we don't approve this so they're asking
us to elevate the monthly they're going to still pay us the 3 500 per month for each unit and then the lease payment will be 225 a month versus 90 a month and they would like to extend the contract to an eight-year contract versus seven years i will say that the compactors with the new units it'll replace hydraulics as well and they will have a better compaction rate which will reduce our number of hauls per year so we'll save money on the halls every year and we'll also have all of our compactors operational again which we haven't had in a couple of years were there competing bids for this this is an extension this is to remedy a situation that we inherited um years ago when we when the decision was made by former administration
to purchase nomad compactors so we own those compactors currently the company that we purchased those from insisted that we maintain the hauling in order for them to maintain the compactors for us and since they did not win the bid for the hauling they will no longer even sell us the parts to maintain our compactors so carolina waste has evaluated our compactors and they can get them up and running and then we'll lease them back from them so they're no longer our problem and with that we won't have to pay the monthly service fees and that type of thing so that goes away too how many compactors is there there are 45 total because we have 44 and then we have a swap unit okay and so what was the what was the cost that was
approved back in february um back in february the approved cost was for a one approval was for a one year um i'm sorry let me go back and read my notes um was a two-year extension on the current five-year contract and the lease the monthly lease per unit was going to be ninety dollars now they are asking for 225 dollars a month and to extend the contract for three years versus to make it an eight-year contract versus a seven-year contract and if you look in that comparison when it all comes out in the wash basically they're making three thousand dollars off of this i mean they're not making their money on on this deal because they're inheriting taking over the cost of repairs and that type of thing on these compactors but they do have
our hauling contract now they do currently have our hauling contract and that's what the extension will maintain the hauling contract at the current haul rate and they've agreed to honor that for the rest of the contract so our hauling rate will not go up do we know how long the hauling contract is or if we extend it to the three years it'll expire september 25th 2026. initially it was due to expire in 2023. we need to remember to never do business with that company that decided they wouldn't sell us parts to the compactors i was gonna say i don't think we're gonna have to worry about that as long as this of course is new people will come on here and i don't think marcy would let it happen long as marcy's here i don't
think we'll forget yeah they like single sourced us and then they wouldn't sell us the parts it's been a night it's been a nightmare yes so these folks seem to be doing the right thing by us carolina waste yes sir they have um they have been over backwards and we actually had a face-to-face meeting with them and um we feel we had some issues but they are promising us um that they are going to remedy some of the issues that we've had with hauling um they've been under the same issue that most of us have been under with the labor force and not having labor and they feel confident that they are making the right changes to address those issues and um we actually have seen some improvement from what i've witnessed over the past
couple weeks and they're they they're just working really hard with us and they were very transparent excuse me with their numbers i've they provided their quote for their parts all of that information and i included that in your packet so you can we asked them to write a written proposal this time and to honor so that they can't come back and say nope we can't do that so they made sure they had all their eyes dotted and their t's crossed this time so i have one more question about the hauling rate so the hauling rate they will keep the same for three years but the number of halls if we can compact more we can make fewer halls correct and but the rate per hall will stay the same even if we reduce our number
exactly so the haul rate right now is 252 and currently right now i did some just quick estimations before the board meeting um the current number of trips that we have per compactor is about 17 um they're expecting with the increased compact ratio that that might be able to reduce down to about 11. so it'll um and that alone saves about sixty eight thousand a year that's good plus that through about three thousand a month that we're paying for repairs madam chairman make a motion to approve the extension of rfp 526-1718 for three additional years for a maximum contract term of eight years at the current contract fee for collection and transport to include the sale of 45 nomad compactors for a total of one hundred fifty to seven thousand five hundred dollars which will
be refurbished and redeployed to the district as least units for two hundred twenty five dollars each per month for the remaining contract term so the motions on the table i second any discussion all in favor aye the motion carries by two to zero the fourth agenda item is the 21 2122 general fund budget amendment mrs smith you are recognized again thank you south carolina's 11 billion dollar budget was submitted to governor mcmaster on june 21st which included a teacher salary increase of one thousand dollars the same methodology for applying the thousand dollar teacher raise is the same used as on page 43 of the south carolina state department of education funding manual which states teacher salaries must be used to increase salaries of those teachers eligible pursuant to section 59-20-50-4-b to include classroom teachers librarians
guidance counselors psychologists social workers occupational and physical therapists school nurses orientational and mobility instructors and audiologists in the school districts of the state based on the passing of the state budget administration is requesting a motion to approve the amendment to the 2122 general fund budget to increase salaries by 1 000 to the positions according to the south carolina department of education funding manual the school district will be funded by the state for these positions the estimated amount to increase revenues and expenditures is three million eighty nine thousand three hundred and ten dollars what is the pleasure of the committee i'm sure i make a motion to approve approve the amendment to the 2122 general fund budget to increase salaries by one thousand dollars for special ed itinerant teachers pre-kindergarten child development teachers kindergarten teachers special
ed self-contained teachers special ed resource teachers classroom teachers retired teachers library media specialists guidance counselors speech therapists school nurses occupational physical therapists orientation mobility instructors audiologists social workers and psychologists this is a result of the state's budget to to include an increase of one thousand dollar to the state teacher salary schedule from 1 from 36 excuse me 236 000 from 35 000. the school district will be funded by the state for the positions listed the estimated increase to revenue and expenditures is three million eighty nine thousand three hundred ten dollars is the expectation that they will also fund that in coming years yes we we will uh let's let's have that as a discussion after the motion is seconded and that's a motion what is the pleasure of the committee well let's uh have a
discussion now okay you want to discuss that yes because littleton thank you for your answer we had we had to have it motion and seconded before the discussion no i understand but she shook her head yes i got it thank you okay the motion answered my question which is is it upping the the pay scale completely so that's the just for the designated positions as as the general assembly prescribed that is correct the school district is has no input in this other than asking for the approval from this from the general assembly and the funding uh for these is directly from the state general assembly there's is a zero uh budget item for the school district correct that is correct okay okay so the motion is on the table yeah i i second any discussion
that's what you just did okay so all we're all in favor the motion carries by two to zero all right okay thank you at this time i will entertain a motion to adjourn this committee meeting so that the human resources committee meeting can begin so move second good evening everyone i'm calling the committee on human resources to order i declare there is a quorum of committee members present and note that the media has been given proper notice pursuant to the freedom of information act first agenda item is the 2021-2022 salary book dr karen whitley you are recognized [Music] should probably just stand there tonight thank you good evening madam chair superintendent jackson and board members we are asking for approval of berkeley county school district 2021-2022 salary book the salary book has been updated to
include the 21 22 payroll schedule instructional calendar work schedules and pay schedules are there any questions i moved to approve the 2021-2022 salary book as presented second have a motion from ms wofford and the second from miss marone is there any discussion all in favor say aye aye any opposed motion carries three to zero thank you second agenda item is policy jca student sexual discrimination and harassment revision first reading dr whitley you're again recognized thank you i'd like to call dr richardson okay dr richardson good evening chair tanner chair barrel board member superintendent jackson i am presenting policy gc jca for first reading from the committee um i included a mmo are there any questions related to that policy i am updating it because it hasn't been updated since 2007 and it is i'm just
bringing it current okay what is the pleasure of the committee i moved to approve the first reading of policy j c a sexual discrimination and harassment as presented by staff second i have a motion from miss wofford in a second from miss marone is there any discussion all in favor aye aye motion carries unanimously third agenda item is policy jca hyphen r sexual discrimination and harassment first reading dr karen whitley you are recognized we are asking for first reading approval for policy jca our student sexual discrimination and harassment dr richardson hello again so i am bringing this rule up for first reading because it has not been approved and under the new regulations from title ix it it's past due so we need to get this approved asap what is the pleasure of the committee
i motion to approve the first reading of policy jca r student sexual discrimination and harassment as presented second is there any discussion i have some all right dr richardson i read your memo and i saw that this regulation was adopted on may 16 and it was mandated that districts adopt and publish procedures complying with the new provisions by august 14th 2020. did i read that right you read that right okay so i have two questions i'll give them both to you first one is do we know why we wouldn't have voted on this back in august of 2020 um and also is there a repercussion for our district since we did not comply both great questions regarding the first it is my understanding that upon advice of previous council it was said that the board
did not have to adopt them oh okay dr willie all right i'm going to defer to you okay it was i'm advised that baby um just it was presented to you and read in as part of the record but it was not voted on them you're correct i thought it was an administrative rule not a i mean not an administrative role it was a it was a practice not a board policy because i feel like something was done because we've talked about this before correct it was when i looked at the board meeting it was said that the board did not have to take action title ix mandates that the board take action on these procedures specifically the statute specific specifically says the recipient must adopt and publish grievance procedures that provide for the prompt
and equitable resolution of student employing complaints so this is mandated that these procedures be adopted by the board so second question are we is there are we gonna have repercussion from this is there so technically according to our record keeping it will be approved this year so i don't think there will be any okay negative outcomes from this as long as we do get it done the fact that we reviewed it last year might count in our favor so they weren't actually reviewed according to the minute um they were just read and not read into the minute so i don't know whether that counts as a review right i can't yeah yes i can't speak specifically to that the full extent of what was required was not done so we're going to just leave it
okay all right so i have a motion from miss marone in a second by ms wofford is that correct no none of us have read it yet oh yeah no no that was already done it was already done any opposed unanimous okay so i gotta keep up with so many okay fourth agenda item is policy gbaa anti-harassment revision first reading dr whitley you are again recognized thank you we are asking for first reading approval to revise policy gbaa dr richardson so again asking for the revision of this policy we're changing it from being anti-harassment in general to specifically and sexual harassment um to coincide with the attached rule and then we'll address the general anti-harassment policy in a minute okay what is the pleasure of the committee my motion to approve the first reading of
the policy gbaa anti-harassment as presented second i have a motion from miss marone in a second from miss wofford is there any discussion all in favor say aye aye unanimous vote fifth agenda item is policy gbaa hyphen r sexual harassment and retaliation staff first reading dr karen whitley you're recognized thank you we're asking for first reading approval for policy g b a a dash r sexual harassment and retaliation dr richardson so this is the second set of procedures that are required under title ix to have been adopted the first set of course was for students this is for staff and so so all of this all of this should have been okay got it okay um what's the pleasure of the committee i motioned to approve the first reading of policy gbaa dash r as
presented have a motion from miss a second from miss wofford is there any discussion all in favor say aye aye aye aye vote is unanimous seventh no when it ram i've lost my account sixth sixth agenda item is policy gbac discrimination harassment and retaliation first reading dr whitley you're recognized thank you we are asking for first reading approval for policy gbac discrimination harassment and retaliation dr richardson okay so this is the general anti-harassment bullet anti-harassment discrimination policy for staff ocr requires that sexual harassment be a separate and distinct policy and so we basically we are separating the two so the ones we just covered were for sexual harassment this is the anti-general harassment and discrimination policy they are separated in the student section already so we're basically just complying in the staff section as well
okay under title nine this would fall under title seven title seven thank you okay what is the pleasure of the committee [Music] i motioned to approve the first reading of policy g-b-a-c discrimination harassment and retaliation as presented second have a motion from ms marone a second from miss wofford is there any discussion all in favor aye aye unanimous vote okay we are at trying to keep up seventh agenda item is policy gbac hyphen r discrimination harassment and retaliation first reading dr whitley dr richardson take your pick dr whitley you're recognized thank you we're asking for first reading approval for policy gbac-r discrimination harassment and retaliation dr richardson so with the rule to this policy it is a little different than the rule that then gbaa-r only because title seven is not as prescriptive as title
nine so the policies don't have to it doesn't have to follow the exact steps as set forth and title ix okay it can mirror but it does not have to be as prescriptive and so this one is just a little easier process to go through okay what is the pleasure of the committee i motioned to approve the first reading of policy g-b-a-c-r discrimination harassment and retaliation as presented second i have a motion for miss marone a second from miss wofford any discussion from the board all in favor say aye aye unanimous vote eighth agenda item is gbac hyphen e1 discrimination harassment and retaliation complaint form first reading dr whitley you're recognized thank you we're asking for first reading approval for gbac dash e1 discrimination harassment and retaliation complaint form dr richardson for documentation purposes we
need this complaint for what is the pleasure of the committee i motioned to approve the first reading of gbac-e1 discrimination harassment and retaliation complete form as presented second i have a motion from ms marone and a second from ms wofford is there any discussion all in favor say aye aye unanimous vote at this time i will entertain a motion to adjourn and return to regular session so moved second all in favor say aye aye we are now adjourned back to regular session i'll now entertain a motion to return to regular session so moved second i have a motion from miss tanner in second miss littleton is there any discussion hearing none all in favor of returning to regular sessions say aye aye opposed nay i have it by a vote of 7-0 we are in
regular session and we will go to ms littleton next on the agenda is the academics and innovation committee report chairwoman kathy littleton mr chairman of the committee on academics and innovation met earlier this evening on the recommendation of the committee i move to approve the committee recommended books selected by teachers as presented for second reading we have a recommendation from committee no second is required is there any discussion all in favor raise your hand any opposed what i don't know if anybody voted we didn't vote you gotta i don't you went really quick on that one all right we're back to the eyes you're going to raise our hands yes we have a recommendation from committee no second is required is there any discussion hearing none we'll call the question all in favor say aye
aye aye aye opposed nay we have a motion and it's approved by 7-0 it's not that late it's been a long week it's only tuesday so is that concludes your report oh yes i'm sorry mr chairman [Laughter] you were in the place of the mr right so mr chairman the committee on finance and capital planning met earlier this evening and on recommendation of the committee i moved to approve the extension of rfp 526 1718 for three additional years for a maximum contract term of eight years at the current contract fee for a collection and transportation to include the sale of 45 nomad compactors for a total of 157 500 dollars which will be refurbished and redeployed to the district as leased units for 225 dollars each per month for the remaining contract term we have
a recommendation from committee no second is required is there any discussion hearing not all in favor of the motion say aye aye any opposed nay motion carry 7-0 mr chairman i also work on also on recommendation of the committee i moved to approve the amendment to the 2122 general budget fund to increase salaries by a thousand dollars for a special education teachers pre-kindergarten child development teachers kindergarten teachers special education self-contained teachers special education resource teachers classroom teachers retired teachers library media specialists guidance counselors speech therapists school nurses occupational physical therapists orientation mobility instructor instructors audiologists social workers and psychologists this is a result of the state's budget to include the increase of thousand dollars to the state teacher salary scale to 36 000 from 35 000 the school district will be funded by the state
for the positions listed the estimated increase to revenue and expenditures is 3 million eighty nine thousand three hundred and ten dollars we have a recommendation from committee no second is required is there any discussion hearing none will call the question all in favor of the motion respond by saying aye mr chairman that concludes my report thank you for filling in ms marone admirable job uh next on the agenda will be the superintendent's report mr jackson thank you sir good evening mr chair board members cabinet members members of the audience and those of you that are at home online first of all i want to say thank you for the warm welcome that kind of makes it easy hopefully we can keep that same energy and keep the momentum going it's been a pleasure uh to

attend some community events some stakeholder meetings i visited our current construction sites and received updates regarding ongoing projects these events are reflective of the strategies outlined in my first for my first 100 days i worked with our team to plan a number of community events and meetings to encourage our stakeholders excuse me to engage with our stakeholders and learn more about their thoughts and opinions of berkeley county school district working to identify our strengths as well as our areas that require some additional focus across the district so we can work on those as we plan and move forward an outline of our my 100 day plan can be post or will be posted to our website within the coming week the recurring theme that you will hear from me is the commitment to maximize the
educational experience for all students and when people hear that they ask you know so what does that mean well the short answer is it's a commitment that we will work diligently to ensure our district is fully leveraging its resources and partnerships to provide the type of experiences students need to be successful we are open to opportunities and partnerships that will help us build capacity and promote student success we'll continue to seek out those win-win opportunities that will benefit our students you know one of the first opportunities that we have to maximize the educational experience for all students is to develop a plan for our sr3 funds and to provide support for our students and to address learning loss the berkeley county school district's s or allocation is more than 72 million dollars for three four
three year period which expires in september of 2024 and that sounds like a lot of money uh it's also for a very short period of time and one of the things we want to ensure is that we are spending our funds responsibly and so we're currently in the process of developing our plan for these funds and we're seeking community input across the district and we will also release a survey to solicit community feedback specific to the investment of our sr3 allocation and we look forward to working with our stakeholders to ensure this investment is impactful and so with that i want to share a few important dates that are coming up july 15th is our summer teacher recruitment fair we will host this hiring event here in the board room and we are specifically targeting
