001Okay. Uh, it's 6:30 by my watch here. So, I'm going to call our meeting to order. Miss Brandom, did we notify the media? >> We do. >> Thank you. And I do declare that we have a quorum with all board members present. If we could, we will need a motion to approve our agenda. >> I make a motion to approve the agenda. >> Second. >> Thank you. Any questions or concerns? All those in favor of approving our agenda, please say I. >> Any opposed? Right. I do want to welcome everyone here tonight. I appreciate you taking the time to uh come join us at the district office. And before we get started though, as usual, I'm going to ask everybody to tell me something good. Mike, I'm going to start with you first. >> The

002weather. >> Trying to be positive. >> My something good is I got to weekend in Myrtle Beach for the South Carolina um school board convention. Got to listen to a lot of great speakers and enjoyed my time. Y'all hate the ones that was not able to make it. Missed a good time. >> Something good. I celebrated another milestone of a birthday. >> Happy birthday, Miss >> N. I'll also echo the and I really am echoing. Um, the weekend was great. Um, safe travels on the way back, even though it took me eight hours to make a 4-hour drive because I got halfway home and realized I had my wife's keys in my pocket and had to turn around and take them back to her. >> No. >> Ouch. >> Sorry. >> Yeah, that's tough. U

003my tell me something good. I'll actually say the conference, too. So, the schoolboard association did a great job putting me on the conference. Um, my two favorite speakers, which I think that everyone in attendance would echo this as well, was um, Miss Liz Huntley. Um, she's an attorney who grew up in Alabama and her story of how educa public education changed her life was really fantastic. And then also our former governor, David Beasley, spoke um, and he is now the head of the World Food Organization. I believe that's right. and he was telling us just how um how that how they work so hard to get food to uh to countries that where children he said die every 3 seconds I think >> so thank you Mr. No. >> No. >> So, as I was

004pulling into the parking lot, I got a call from my oldest daughter who uh finished her PA degree from North Greenville in December. And then her and her husband, we moved them down to to Buford and she was calling me to tell me that she's now officially employed >> with a doctor close. So, we're just excited for her on this journey because it's been long and and uh and then she's also really proud because she's making more money than her older brother. So, you can tell where my my kids their their approaches are here with each other. Congratulations. Exciting news for her. >> So, so that yeah, all her hard work is coming to fruition. >> Fantastic. Well, I um was something good was also the speakers at the conference. um they were very um

005heartwarming stories that they had and it was it was a great experience to be there this weekend. >> Now we have um a do we have a student from Sanders and Waterl that's going to lead us in our prayer? >> I mean sorry not our prayer in in our pledge. >> Yes ma'am. I have four students from >> Fantastic. I'll I'll let you introduce them if you don't mind and then we're ready to go. You want them to come up? We have Martin, seventh grader. We have Anderson, eighth grader. Ryder Hitchner, eighth grader. And Amaya Cruz, sixth grader. >> Students, our flag's in the front. If you want to face the real flag and not that flag. Yes. Thank you, Mr. >> Carpenter. To the flag of the United States of America and to the

006republic for it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you students. We appreciate you being here tonight to lead us in the pledge. Miss Nance, will you lead us in prayer? >> Yes. Let us pray. Our precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we come Lord this evening recognizing you as the great I am. Lord God, I ask that you bless us in this meeting this evening, Lord God. and give us the wisdom that only you can give, Lord God, and just take care of our district and just be with us, Lord God. In your precious name, Lord God, I pray. Amen. >> Amen. Amen. Thank you, Miss Nance. Um, now we will need approval of our minutes from the February 20, excuse me, from the February 2nd meeting. If

007someone would make a motion for that. >> Yeah, I'll make a motion that we approve the February 2nd schoolboard meeting. >> Thank you. Any discussions or questions? All those in favor of approving the minutes for our February 22nd school board meeting, please say I. >> Any opposed? All right, the motion's carrying. And now we will move into our school reports and with Miss Emily Parks from Waterl Elementary. >> Thank you. Good evening. >> Good evening. >> All right. Can you Can you hear me? Am I good? All right. There we go. All right. So, this was originally for January's meeting. So, I am excited that we do have a couple additional updates since this uh presentation was created. Uh but I am excited to have the opportunity to share with all of you tonight the

008great things we have going on at Waterlue. So, our mission this year is building a five-star culture of excellence where all students can thrive in the classroom and beyond. This is something that our students know, our teachers know that we commit to every morning uh in our virtual morning meeting and we we are getting to that five-star culture of excellence through our school plan. Our first goal there um centers around our ELA data on the SC ready assessment. So we met our goal last year. So this year our goal is to go from 71% uh proficient to 75% this coming May on the SC ready uh assessment. And then our second goal centers around our math data. We met that goal from our plan last year. So this year our goal is to um have

009from 62% to 67% score proficient on the math test of SC ready. And these charts will kind of show you the orange line uh kind of shows the baseline of where we need to go each year to be at 75 cent 75% proficiency by 2030 as expected by the state department and Miss Weaver and we are trending exactly where we need to. You can see on the left the ELA uh scores are above kind of where where we need to be to in to meet that goal, but then also trending along that orange line for math. So, we are very proud of the work that our teachers and our students are doing to help us get to that level of proficiency. Our action steps to meet these two academic goals are implementing the five steps

010of effective learning focusing on Hadtie's uh visual learning and our weekly cluster meetings each week that our instructional coaches lead. We continue to do regular classroom observations by our ILT members and offering feedback to increase um the instructional impact our teachers have. We are continuing working with the 4.0 O rubric so that our teachers know what effective instruction looks like and helping them build in their areas of growth. We have intentional planning sessions with each grade level as well as the implementation of tier 2 small groups. This is something new this year that we focused on where our leadership team as well as our related arts teachers go into those classrooms during our tier 2 time to help pull small groups and support uh the work that our teachers are doing. And then we are

011continuing our implementation of thinking maps and write from the beginning to support our writing across the curriculum as well. Uh we have our third goal which is our culture score our school climate score from the school report card. Our goal is to increase one point from a 6.43 to a 7.43. And at the bottom there you can see some of our action steps. We're continuing this year with our virtual schoolwide morning meeting, our student of the month recognition and our quarterly awards programs, developing the mindset around our five-star culture of excellence with our monthly character traits that coincide with our um counselors classroom guidance lessons. We also have thank you notes to teachers from guardians. So, that is a QR code on the bottom of our monthly parent newsletters and they can scan that and

012go in and write a thank you note to one of their um their child's teachers and then we print that out nice and pretty to give to the teachers so they can see their impact. Uh we have our five-star Friday. So, every Friday is a different theme. It might be a dressup theme. It might be something going on in the district. Um but that just kind of helps kind of bring us all together from kindergarten through fifth grade. We have schoolwide behavior expectations and star passes and then positive postcards and positive referrals that have been um implemented this year that have been really good to focus on the good that we see in our students and letting parents know. Couple of celebrations. Um like I said, we've grown from 62% to 72% scoring meets or

013exceeds on SC ready last year and 56 to 62 on SC ready math. All of our third graders scored approaches or above in both ELA and math. So we did not have a single third grader in that does not meets category. On winter map this past December, all grade levels have more than 50% of students scoring above the 40th percentile. So we are trending in a good direction this year. We've had the implementation of the STEM lab uh where she is co-planning and co-eing in different science classes as well as introducing the science fair uh to our older students. So they will be working on their projects and presenting those later in March. Uh this is our second year that our music teacher has done um our honors choir. They meet twice a week and

014they perform um several times throughout the year on our in our musical programs. Uh that next bullet says that we have a new mural in progress. It has been completed since this presentation uh was put together. I know Miss Elders and Dr. Pinland have been in the building to be able to see it. It's from a local Clinton through a fine arts grant and it definitely encompasses all that water is. So please come out and see that beautiful mural in our entry hallway. And then we also have new playground equipment that has already been installed for our older students. So they've been excited about that and we are grateful for that addition. We've also focused on community partnerships and community events. So we were a STEM grant recipient from Michelin to help provide materials for

015our STEM lab. We were a prize recipient from the Duke Energy Night. So, we have our STEM night and our energy night coming up in March. We have uh world read aloud and read across America volunteer readers that have come in. So, if you'd like to come read, we would love to have you. We've had several guests come in. Meteorologist Grace Lao came in to speak with third graders during their weather unit. The Waterlue Fire Department comes out for fire safety uh week in October. And then the Columbia Marionette Theater makes an annual visit as well. And then our January service project was the United Way bags of love. And our school, our goal was 20 bags. And we were able to donate 37 bags from what students and their families donated. And our February

016project is the American Heart Association fundraiser, Jump Rope for Heart. It's what it used to be known as. So our PE teacher has been heading that up. We have a couple of events coming up this week. On Thursday, we have the Black History Month program where uh several of our grade levels will be performing and then the music in our schools program on March 26 leading up to the STEM day on the square. And then I'll just leave you with a couple of pictures of some of our smiling faces from field trips to our theme days and our five-star Friday events to our visitors. The big picture is the meteorologist Grace Lao. We've had the STEM bus and then you see some of our fifth graders helping the artist and resident work on the mural

017that we have in our entry hallway. And that is how we're going at Wateroo. >> All right. Thank you. >> Thank you, Miss Parks. And now we'll have Mr. Schwabi tell us what's happening at Sanders Middle. >> Thank you. Um, so I'm actually going to have um our students that are here with me. They're actually going to help me explain what's going on here at Sanders. But a few things to kind of introduce what we have going on. Um, one thing is the construction of our new building, the science building, has been complete and we are open and um, it's operational right now. We have our eighth graders in there and it's a wonderful addition to our school. Um, and we really really are enjoying that. So um with that building being complete, we came

018up with the school motto for this year, which is to keep building. Um so even though we are physically, um in the new building, we still have a lot to work on. Um and the areas that we are working on actually come from Dr. Pinland's um anchors of accountability that he introduced at the beginning of this school year, which are the academics, attendance, the arts, athletics, and atmosphere. And here to help me um point out those are are our students. Um so we'll go ahead and get started with academics with uh Mr. Ryder Hitchner. >> Hi. Um I'm Ryder Hner and one of our biggest our biggest focuses this year is academics. Our goal is to grow our students by at least 12% in reading and 50% in math on SE ready to strengthen our

019skills in math and ELA. Almost half of our students are pulled during academy to receive extra help in their areas of weakness. These groups were created using map testing data. Our seventh grade science students com competed in a STEM competition in December and won in both of their categories, distance and accuracy. Due to early truency interventions, we have had 265 fewer absences than last year. Our 21st century after school program has provided attendance, recovery, and academic interventions for our students. Amaya Cruz. >> Hi, I'm Amaya Cruz. I'm in fifth grade here at SMS. We we offer and chorus streams and visual arts at art. Students performed during school and community event art was on December 16th. We are now learning digital art with Google draw. >> For athletics, we have >> Hey guys, my name

020is Na Anderson and I'm in the eighth grade. Today I will be telling y'all about the athletics at Standards Middle School. Standards athletes have been killing this year. The Yellow Jackets football team had a competitive season and ended the season 5 and two. The Lady Yellow Jackets went undefeated with a record 13-0. We also had a we also have a lot of students playing spring sports at high school. A lot of students from our school are dual athletes. For example, me, I do basketball, volleyball, and I also run track. >> Congratulations on a 130 season. >> Sanders. >> Up next for atmosphere, we have Miami. >> Hi, I'm Miami Martin and I'm in the seventh grade. At Sanders Middle School, we focus on atmosphere. We show this by recognizing five star students each month. We

021hold pep rallies, Kona ice days, and spirit weeks that are fun and help build school pride. As part of building a positive atmosphere, we recognize our staff through snack carts and weekly shoutouts. We have many opportunities for student leadership such as student le announcements, the buzz, or in other words, our student news show, student council, and national dream society. >> Last semester, we hosted a family night to build community. We also partner with the Sanders Alumni Association for the MLK Day celebration and speech contest. This Friday, we will have a Black History Month program at 2 p.m. which is open to the community. >> That's good. >> And so that's what we have going on at Sanders. Thank you guys. >> Mrs. Robbie, unfortunately, there is no prize, but if there was a prize, you

022would win it since you brought all those students to do the work. I love it. >> It's called delegation. Well done. >> Well, I knew that I had needed a lot of backups. >> Your students did a great job. >> Well done, guys. >> Great job, students. Um, now I'll turn it over to Dr. Pinland for our district report, superintendent report. >> Sure. >> All right. So, um I know whenever we met the last time this was in the process our pro um our water tower that um CPW has um installed is now up and so they will um I just wanted to share some pictures. We had a great um showing of some community that was out there. Big Air sponsored the meal that was um kind of provided as we watched the um

023water tower be lifted and it really is an amazing site whenever you go past um Big Air. Um and so couple of reminders. Um we're still working on our vision and mission revisions. Um and so whenever we're looking at that, we have continually um another meeting this Saturday here at the district office. if anybody wants to come in and provide information or input on our vision and mission. Um on the 28th we also have the steering committee will um come back together and take all the feedback from all the meetings and then we'll do a board presentation on the 23rd of the um recommended vision and mission as um we move forward. Um the Sanders grade configuration discussion, we've already had a meeting with the Sanders Middle and Lawrence Middle teachers. Um that went well.

024We had um pretty much 100% um attendance from both staffs at Lawrence Middle and Sanders and we met for about an hour, hour and a half with there tomorrow afternoon or tomorrow evening. I meet with the Sanders alumni to um gather information and input um from um that group. We'll have um a parent um meeting with the sixth and seventh grade current parents at Sanders um because this would affect them and their students would be going to Lawrence Middle. And then March 9th, we'll have a fifth grade parent meeting here at the DO, which would be inviting the Lawrence Elementary, Eie Morris, and Ford um fifth grade parents um to um have a discussion about things that we may need to be in um kind of considering as we move forward um or if we

025move forward um with the um grade configuration um discussion where Sanders would become a sixth grade center and Lawrence Middle would become a junior high. Um hopefully by March 23rd we'll have a recommendation um or um kind of share that information. Um on the 23rd um facility need town halls um we did um one date changed on this um I think actually the March 5th and 9th had to change because we had to do some bumping around and then um there's one new date on here that we had to bump. So um if you look at last month's um agenda, look at these dates instead. March um 10th um we'll have a community meeting at the high school. March 12th we'll have one in the Greycourt Owens community. Uh March 19th we'll have one um

026in the morning here for district office. Um the 24th which will be um kind of invited group of retired educators. um we'll have here in the morning and then we'll have another one in the Waterlue community um to kind of hit all the different areas of our um county to look at the facility needs and the recommendations that you all have put forth um to kind of go forth and we'll have that discussion of where we're looking at and kind of the funding that we would need for um to make that happen and the decisions that would be needed for um a referendum if that was something that's needed for a November vote. All right. Any questions about the three sets of um meetings before I go on. All right. So, athletics, I did want

027to um do a few shout outs. Um Raider wrestling, we had some state qualifiers. Um four students um there um um wrestled there with a second place upper state finalist. Also, we had all region girls. Um we had two um players that made all region um Nara Allen and Tiona Jones. And then our all region boy players, we had RJ Brewster Snow, Quinton Watts, Z Simpson, and Quinton and Z also made all state um basketball players. And so um we're very proud of everything that they did for the winter sports um as they did that. So in the attendance, um component, we're looking at March and April. Um we do have an early release day on March 3rd. Um if we don't have any additional inclement weather between now and March 13th, um that makeup

028day would be a day off for students and staff. Um so that would be um only used if we had inclement weather between now and then. And then in April, April 6th through the 10th will be our spring break. Any questions? Good evening. >> I'm always reminded that yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. It's why it's called present. That poem is credited to Eleanor Roosevelt. and she reminds us that focusing on the past isn't productive. We need to embrace the moment and be optimistic about the future. So, having said that, the student services department constantly talks about what we can collectively do to ensure our students are college and career ready. What is the goal of the department? It aims to support their academic success by meeting their behavioral, social,

029emotional, health, and safety needs. It seeks to collaborate, advocate, and build relationships with all stakeholders to decrease barriers and increase support for students. Uh, one of our counselors is here today, uh, Miss McDow. She could attest that throughout the year we have built up a healthy bank of community resources to ensure that we meet the students needs. Who is part of the student support, excuse me, the student services department? As you can see, we work with five different groups. Attendance clerks, career development facilitators, mental health counselors, school nurses, and again, school counselors. Whom does the department serve? That's an interesting question because we always want to focus on the students. If you guys notice, it's kind of small, but at the same point in time, if we think about the students, the generation of students

030that we currently serve, we're at the tail end of serving generation Z because they're currently at the high school. But if you look at the next generation, generation alpha, those are the ones that we have to continuously engage to ensure that we're meeting their needs. Think about where you fall in that spectrum. Think about your generation and the modalities of your generation and how different they are from the modalities of Gen Z and generation alpha. If you take a second to think about it, we constantly have to do everything we can to engage this particular generation, your generation, right? We constantly, your teachers constantly have to figure out what can I do to make sure that you learn, but most importantly want to be here while you're learning. Correct me if I'm wrong. Absolutely. You're

031smiling. So that means we're on we're on track. So this year the focus was student engagement and we challenged ourselves as a student services department with what can we continuously do from the beginning of the school year midy year and all the way to the end to make sure that the students that that are in the bu in the building not only are they learning but they want to be in the building. I'm not going to read every last one of these, but as you can see, each school met the challenge. Starting with Edie Morris going all the way down to Grey Court, you can see the gamut of activities that the students are engaged in to ensure they not only are in the building to learn, but they want to be in the building

032and they enjoy being in the building. The next slide shows the activities from the high school all the way down to Waterlue. It's in alphabetical order basically, but at the same time, you all can see some of the activities that the students were engaged in that not only helped them learn, but want to be in the building and stay in the building. Um, Miss Parks and Mr. Schwabby did a phenomenal job of listing some of the activities that they that they've been doing throughout the school year to ensure the students are engaged, their needs are met, and they enjoy what they're doing. So as you can see every school is listed. Some schools may have act more activities than others but at the same point in time a gamut of activities has been have been

033scheduled throughout the year to engage the students as well as their families. Collaborative efforts. We always have our monthly meetings. We try to bring in as many community resources as possible so that we can share that information for families and students that are in need of specific things. but at the same point in time ensure that we have a bank of resources that the students can have and the families can have. Uh professional development activities, we're constantly improving and enhancing our professional toolboxes as well as enhancing our professional efficacy to ensure that we are meeting those needs. We deal a lot with the industry and out of district transfer process. We make sure that students and families have opportunities to take advantage of the school choice method. We're involved in Sandy Hook Promise. Of course,

034that's a violence prevention program that we are constantly we we might get alerts if if a student has a is quote unquote crying out for help. We can provide uh the students the help that they need based on the concern. Um we deal with expulsion hearings. Of course, when people think of expulsion hearings, yes, things are done that aren't necessarily the most prudent in the schools, but at the same point in time, we do want to make sure that we are very not just we're not just reactive, we're very proactive when it comes to these particular situations because again, sometimes they're crying out for help. Truy meetings, we meet with the families to figure out, okay, if you've missed a certain amount of days, what can we do collectively to make sure that you're in

035the building? And we'll do everything we can to help you ensure that you're in the building. McKenna Vento students. We've got students and families that are in that aren't in they're not necessarily in the most ideal optimal situations at home, but at the same point in time, we want to be a conduit for those families to ensure that those students have what they need. I'm very grateful that throughout the year, we've been given a lot of donations from the community to help these families that are in need, to help the students that are in need. We're very appreciative of all the donations that we've received in the fall. While I challenged, we challenged the student services department. We challenged each other as far as like doing an event in the fall, a major event in

036the fall and a major event in the spring. In the fall, we did a district job fair. We did it on Wednesday, November 5th. And I will say that we had a lot of community support. We had a lot of community organizations come in and present their respective jobs to the students to again to make sure that they are college and career ready. Last Friday, we had an H.B.CU CU recruitment and resource event. We had three different organiza, three different types of organizations in the building from colleges all the way down to community organizations to again get them in the mindset of being college and career ready. And we're very appreciative that this particular event was a success as well. Any questions, comments, concern concerns, thoughts, criticisms? We'll take it all. >> Hearing none. Thank

037you. >> Thank you, Dr. John. >> Thank you, Dr. Little John. All right. The next item on the agenda, >> you have sorry. Yeah. >> So, we will move forward with uh our next item is school board appreciation and the ethical principles declaration signing. And I will read these uh for us. Um this is something that's typically done in January, but since we had to do that meeting virtually, we weren't able to do that. So this is just our ethical principles and I will read these before we each sign. Says, "As members of the board, we pledge our efforts to improve public education in our community and will solemnly try to represent the interest of the entire district when making decisions and to rely on available facts and our own judgment rather than on individuals

038or special interest groups. understand the proper role of the board to set policies governing the district and to hire the chief administrative officer to carry out these policies. Encourage an open exchange of ideas by all board members during the decision-making process. Seek regular communications between the board and students, staff, and all segments of the community. Attend all board meetings to study issues facing the board and to enact policies and official actions only after full discussion at meetings. work with our other board members in a conscious conscientious and courteous manner benefiting the public trust placed in the position of the school board trustee. Communicate concerns and public reaction to board policies and school programs to the superintendent and other board members in a professional manner. Support employment of the persons best qualified for staff positions and

039to ensure a regular and impartial evaluation of all staff. avoid conflicts of interest and to refra refrain from using our board positions for personal or partisan gain. Encourage recognition of the achievements of students and staff and the involvement of community residents. Support legislation and funding which will improve the educational opportunities and environment for students and staff. take no individual action which would compromise the integrity of the board or administration and to respect the confidentiality of the information that is privileged under the Freedom of Information Act. Study current educational issues and to participate in training programs such as those offered through the South Carolina School Boards Association and make our district's educational setting the best possible to encourage all students to achieve and to love learning. All right. And now I'll just pass this around. each

040uh individual board member to sign. >> I would like to take this moment just to um say a thank you to every board member that's here. Um everything that you do on a daily basis um to support our students, to support our schools and principles and our athletics. Um I appreciate everything you do to um not only support them but also the support you give us here at the district office. Um, we do have um certificates of appreciation for each one of you and I'll come around um to do that. Fay, do you want a picture of everybody? >> Red, if you'll join us because she also >> you're asking FA if she wants a picture. Really? >> That answer is always yes. I didn't mean for you to have to tie it around. And

041I will also say all schools have their students make something for each one of you. I think most of you have seen some of the items that are out there for you. So very much appreciate all the school gifts and Everything come up. your You up, Miss forward. Got to be >> as she Do you want church? We'll have a gentle Thank you. Monday night football. We still can't roll backwards. >> Thank you. >> So, the next item on the agenda is policy DK um which is student activities fund management but um in the policy manual we have two identical policies or two that are called DK so we need to actually fix this name so DK would be renamed to DKD student activities fund management I make um I would request that this just

042be a um typo change that it does not require second reading. Um if we'll go ahead and pass it as is. And all that's being changed is the um policy um number or letters. Okay. So we have a a recommendation on the table from Dr. Pinland to rename policy DK to policy >> DKD. Okay. I was trying to find that. Um there and that's the only change. So, in order to do this, if we would get a motion and include in your motion that you will that we'll wave second reading and approve tonight. >> I have a question. >> Yes. >> Um JJ student activities >> last paragraph read the school place the fund in the general fund account. On the other in the general school account. >> Is that a difference? >> Um there

043is a difference to that. And so what I'll do is I'll bring back JJF next time to fix that um since that is um one that's referenced um from this account because there it's actually a school account that those um funds go into, not the general fund. >> So thank you for catching that. >> All right. Thank you, Mr. Carpenter. Is there any other discussion? Okay, if we could have a motion to approve the policy name change for DK to DKD and waving our second reading to approve tonight. >> Yeah, I'll make the motion that we approve change the name from DK to DKD and that we don't require a second reading. >> Second. >> Thank you. Is there any further discussion or questions? All those in favor of approving the name change for policy

044DKD and waving our uh second reading to approve tonight, please say I. >> Any opposed? >> All right, the motion passes. >> All right, the next item on the agenda is the district calendar revision. Um this is based on survey information that we um pushed out to parents, teachers, and our community after having um the entire week off for Thanksgiving. Um in the 2627 calendar year, um we did not have um that as an option. So whenever you see the current on the left hand side of the screen, you'll see that we had a makeup day on November 2nd and we also had a makeup day on March the 12th. Um the proposed um version um which we are also working with Lawrence 56 on this also to move those two makeup days to um

045November the 23rd and 24th. So, if we do not have any inclement weather um which has been in the past um hurricanes in the fall that um we would have the entire week off um students and staff for um that. So looking at the calendar revision, we had a little over um almost,00 responders um to this um survey um the um information was um 447 was parents or guardians with a 43 um percent of the responders. Um you can see that the yeses were um to move those was around 88 89% um with 11% to um not move those um and you can kind of see again where we will be moving those for the next calendar year for the 26 27 school year um for that revision. So this would need a motion um

046to make that happen. So we're taking the March 12th and adding it to the November. >> Correct. >> So is there any concern that we may between this um Thanksgiving >> in March that we may have not no longer have any days. >> We would still be approved as an e-learning district. So we would have five um days for e-learning and we'd have three what we call purple days in the calendar. So, there's still another one in the calendar, too. >> All right. Uh, Dr. Finland's put on the table to revise the district calendar for the 2627 school year. We will need a motion to do that. >> I make a motion to revise the 2627 district calendar. >> Thank you. Do I have a second? >> Thank you, Mr. Hughes. Is there any further

047discussion or questions? All right. All those in favor of approving the motion to revise the 2627 district calendar, please say I. I. >> Any opposed? >> All right. The calendar changes are approved. If we could make sure that we make that easily accessible on our website um because we've had multiple calendar changes. So, I know you know normally moms print those and put it on the refrigerator and then by mid year it it's it's not the same anymore. So, >> so yes, we um FA has been working on that, especially for current year that we had two um versions out there on our Facebook page. So, she was able to find that and take the old one down. And so, I appreciate you for doing that. >> Good. >> And so, it is my pleasure

048now to turn the finance report over to >> Miss Lee and London. So, >> thank you. I'm here to present the financials for the January 31st month. Then um as of January 31st, we have 8,852,981 on CA cash on hand at our treasur's office for the month of January. Um year-to- date numbers we have collected 30 million 53,918 in revenues and as of the end of January we have expenditures of 30,665,075. So as of the end of January we have a excess of revenues over expenditures of 6,388,843. Um As of the end of January, we have received 62% of our revenues for the year. And um as of the end of January, we have um 49% remaining budget for the end of the year. And our goal as of end of January is to have

04942% remaining. So we're doing well in that area. Does anyone have any questions for me? I look at the the the numbers and compared to this time last year, you know, we're 3 million less at this time from last year. Are there any concerns here that again I'm trying to get a handle on expenses and revenues when things come? I know it's a little odd >> when you're a school district when things are coming, but that seems we're talking about a $3 million deficit between what we collected this time last year versus what we collected up into January 31st to January 31st of this year is a $3 million deficit. >> That's that's just our balances. So, yeah, the revenues that we've collected is kind of pretty much >> That's what I'm saying. I should

050have said >> the drop the drop in the cash amount. >> Yeah, just the cash. Yeah. >> And um um I'm not sure about I think maybe we've had a a bond payment or something. Is that Do you know Jody? >> I don't know that one. But um it's also going to be kind of whenever the audit comes through and we'll show a little bit of a difference of um kind of the carry forward also >> because the when I go back and look at the cash flow on at December 31st, you know, we were actually this had more a bigger cash balance in December 31st than we do now. >> Okay. So, I'm a little bit alarmed here that because it's about a $4 million deficit between >> what we what was posted on

051December 31st versus what's posted now on January 31st? >> Okay. Seems a pretty big deficit. >> Other questions from Miss >> Did we uh ever receive the um any refund from FEMA? Um, we just received um confirmation from I mean Brian just told us that I think last week or early this week that um I think it was 286,000 >> somewhere running in there that we will receive from FEMA or will be receiving from FEMA. We have not actually received a check yet. I'm just going to ask if it'd be okay if somebody when you'all look into this if y'all could >> we'll shoot out we'll shoot out respect here. >> Okay. >> Other questions. All right. Brother Harris. >> Thank you, Miss London. >> Before I start, I just want to say how how

052glad we are to have Miss London here in Orange 55. She's doing a doing a great job. off to a good start. And also Dr. Little John who who does a tremendous job for us every day. Want to thank him and also these two principles who are here who work so hard in their buildings every day and and do a great job. We appreciate you guys for that. I have a very quick thing just to mention to you. Um, as we have talked a little bit about a performance contract um, going forward to allow us to do some bigger jobs in our district along the lines of energy savings, energy efficiency um, and doing some some things that we just don't have enough money in our capital account to do on our own. So what

053we have done to start this process is we have we have put out an RFP uh for a guaranteed energy savings contract in accordance with all procurement requirements. Um we have evaluated two proposals that came back to us and we do have um a group that we would like to go forward with. I won't mention the name of the group tonight because the date for announcing that is the 25th of this month. So we will be about that. This doesn't require anything from you tonight as far as an approval is concerned, but we have ranked this thing. We have somebody that we want to talk to and we simply want to enter into negotiations with them to talk about how we might do some projects in our district that that will cost several million dollars.

054Um, but we able to pay this money back through our capital funds. In other words, this would not be this would not cost us anything in the general fund. As a matter of fact, what we're trying to do is if we can, for example, if we can replace large numbers of our HVAC equipment in the district this year, we're going to replace about 20 um units ourselves through our capital money. We just did four um got four in over the weekend at Waterlue. Um, but those that we we have we have hundreds of units in this district and some of them are as many as 25 years old. So, if we could replace those with newer units, we're going to be more efficient. We're going to save money and that's going to be credited to

055the general fund. We'd also like to do things with LED projects. Um, the other five schools that we haven't done yet, we'd like to do that. We'd like to do LED in our athletic facilities um at the high school. Um, and then we have some other projects that we'd like to talk about, but we want we're simply going to enter into some negotiations with these folks, see what they can do for us, see if it's something that we can afford. Um, see if it's something that we can pay back. We know we can pay it back with our 512 money. So again, it is not going to be anything to be concerned about for the general budget and um and then come back to you with what they proposed to us and get an approval

056or not an approval. for going forward with that. So, this is we're at the very beginning of this process and what we'll do is we'll talk with them. We'll bring some information back to you and see if this is something that we want to do going forward. Okay. Any questions about that? >> Okay. Thank you. >> Thank you, Dr. Harris. And now we will move on to public participation. And Miss Brandom, just to confirm, we had no one sign up on time this month. And now we will need a motion to an executive session. >> I'll make a motion executive session. >> I second. Thank you. All in favor say I. >> I'd like to request some Dr. Harrison, Miss Madden to join us. Okay. All right, I'll call our meeting back to order. Um,

057we do have action to take from our executive session. We need to approve our certified contract list for employees. We have list A and B and We have the retirees too, right? >> Do they need to vote on resignations? >> No, I thought she retired. >> Okay, gotcha. Oh, thank you for that clarification. All right. So, we will go ahead and vote on list A first. So, if we could have a motion to approve the certified employee contracts on list A. >> Yeah, I make a motion that we approve list A. >> Second. >> Thank you. Any questions or discussion? All those in favor of approving the certified contracts on list A, please say I. >> I. >> Any opposed? And now we will vote to approve list B. If we could get a motion.

058>> I'll make a motion to approve list B. >> Thank you. >> I'll second it. Thank you. Any questions or discussion? All those in favor of approving list B for our certified contracts. Please say I. >> I. Any opposed? >> All right. Both pass. And now with no further business on our agenda, I will adjourn our meeting. Thank you. Thank you.
