There we go. Okay, I have six o'clock. Um, I have quorum. Call the meeting to order and we'll do the pledge of >> allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> All right. And Melissa will not be here tonight. All right. For wishing to address the board, I have Mike. You are up first. >> Oh, yeah. I just uh curious uh I understood there was a wetland report on the this field to the east of us and is that uh is that out and results and uh available? >> Let me I talked to Kyle from ISG the other day. >> Mhm. He sent me like a preliminary thing, but I will try to
have that in the office like tomorrow. Okay. >> If that works. But I did talk to him because I I don't know if I mentioned at a board meeting. They can only do it a certain time of the year. >> Okay. >> Like based on when the grasses are coming in. >> Okay. >> But I did, for whatever reason, I asked him the other day. They had part of it done, but >> Okay. >> If that sounds fair, I will >> I will stop and >> and I got your phone number, too. Like if I have it or don't have it or when it comes in. Yeah, let me know. We'll we'll head out and pick it up. >> Okay. >> Yep. Sounds good. >> Can you tell me again what you said? Why certain
times of the year? You said >> it has something to do with like the new growth. I I think how they determine the wetland is based on what kind of grasses grow where. Like certain grasses are classified as a wetland grass and I don't know like a slooh grass and then others are more of a >> I don't know I guess what the other term would be more of a >> yard >> land or yard grass. Yeah. >> And from what I understand that's kind of how they differentiate like if this grass is growing here it's considered a wetland. If it's if it's other grass, it's not wetland. >> Oh, so we don't even know if this is a wetland or not. >> Well, there is, but we wouldn't know that the wetland delineation would
be different than what a flood plane might be, per se. >> Okay. >> It wouldn't be the necessarily the same thing. >> Okay. Okay. Is that good, Mike? >> Yep. That's what I wanted. >> All right, Mary, you are next. know something's just uh a couple things. Uh I've been talking to a lot of people uh recently and I was supposed to pass on the message that uh Jim Flattton over on the other side of town. He would be willing to sell or lease his facility if uh we could use that possibly going forward. Um, for example, for the buses, um, a lot of other people have a lot of outside the box thinking that that, uh, I think would work really great for as an alternative to, uh, putting the athletic field between this
and our houses or with our houses between this and the that land over there. Um, the other thing, um, we disagree on a lot of the issues, the big issues. We disagree on if mosquitoes will be an issue. I personally, I don't think throwing bricks in the Slooh is going to control the mosquito population as as good as I would like to see. Uh, personally, I don't believe that we're going to be okay with water. I think I think based on the past water's going to be a huge issue for the athletic complex and possibly for us so many of the other things. But one thing we've all seemed to agree on is parking is going to be a problem. I think there's alternatives so that parking would not be a problem. And kind of
like Laura said at the last meeting, she had talked to that schoolboard member who had an opportunity to buy land somewhere that wasn't smashed in. And uh parking and everything else would have been so much better. They learned the hard way. Uh we have an opportunity and I I just really think we should take advantage of the opportunity to do everything right. Thank you, Mary. You came in late. Did you want to address the board for any reason or just observing? Okay, perfect. All right. Um, then I Let's see. Do we have any changes that we want to make to the agenda? I think we need to add um to the executive session under student matter. Um we need to add a separate um well executive session for contracts negotiation. >> Okay. >> So 11
be that one and then 12 would be a German. >> I don't know if we need a separate item four be >> you can do a separate item. do 11 for >> it' be 125 to >> four >> this negotiations >> for contracts negotiations or negotiations and then 12 would be adjournment >> any other changes or additions >> I just have a question because I have a um correction to make to the minutes does that need to be pulled out or can that just be made for within the consent agenda agenda. Um, let's pull those out. So, we'll do seven 7 A will be um discussion of the minutes and then 7B will be the rest of the consent agenda. Okay. Okay. Any other changes? Then I just need a motion to approve the agenda
as amended. I'll make a motion. >> All those in favor? I >> oppose. Nay. Motion carries. All right. Uh I mean there isn't really >> Here's what I got. Report. Uh summer's here. Sorry. Um gyms are being are staying busy with acceleration open gyms for different sports teams. Uh the music students left for their trip to Oklahoma, Texas this morning. Um let's see. We're starting to get some of our stuff for um new curriculum. Uh >> is that just reading >> ELA? Correct. I mean, >> yeah. >> Um and then we will have summer school June 22nd through the 24th and June 29th through July 3rd. We did kind of offset that a little bit this year just to allow teachers to go to the explicit instruction conference on the 25th and 26th. Um we
will keep an eye on summer school. Our numbers have kind of dropped a little bit over the years and we'll that's kind of a yearby-year we evaluate and um I think we're just under 20 students that are signed up now. Typically you're in the 25 to 30, but um that typically gets paid like with reap money whether it's state or federal. So you know if anybody ever asks about summer school um it's not like it's coming out of general fund or you know used in l of something. It's there's certain things that those funds can be used for. Anyway, that's that's what he has or left me. >> Do the students go to both sessions or can they choose or is it >> as far as summer school? >> Yeah, >> they typically go for
the whole eight days. >> Okay. >> I mean, we do have and we're going to be running in July. I know there's a few kids that >> Yeah. >> they can't come, but we will have kids every year that come for six days or, you know, >> if they can't make it, make it for as many as they can. I know it's a pretty short time period, but do we have any any like metrics in place to look for any gains over that period of time or >> um probably not for that 8 day period? And I don't >> I didn't know if it was >> I don't know if if you could evaluate, you know, if >> a student comes in the summer if it, you know, test scores from year to year just
I think there's so many variables there. But I'll visit with the teachers that, you know, put it on and seem but I know it's the ratio might be this year might be three or four to one. So, I mean, they get, you know, pretty concentrated instruction during that time. >> Is is it tailored to student needs or is it tailored to grade? >> Um, so we break it down into about three different grade levels, you know, like K2, 3, four, maybe five, six. Um, and then the teachers that have those students during the year communicate with the teachers that are doing the summer school and and you know it might be fluency is the one thing that they really need to work on or comprehension and I know they try to tie that within the
lessons as far as based on what their general ed teacher had to do. >> Okay. Thanks. >> Any other questions on that? All right. laugh. I'm finishing up uh grant reimbursements for FY26 um on the consolidated the IDEA money and also the um the federal REAP. We just got our new re our new allocation here the last couple weeks as far as how much we were going to get and then also getting the FY27 grant applications done. um working on those. Hopefully I'll have them done by the end of June. And then not uh NSLP, the school lunch program grant or application is completed. We're just waiting for the state to tell us what their um what we have to charge for adult lunches. And that won't be until probably the first part of August.
It used to come out in June, but not for probably the last eight, nine years. But anyway, and last but not least, just training. >> Yeah. Not least. Any questions for Lan? Words are quick. Jen, >> I do. Um, I am so sorry that I missed the very last PLC meeting. I forgot to set the timer on my phone. I made a note in my planner because I worked late. I worked until 8 that night. Note meant nothing if I didn't have your timer. So, I apologize. I missed it. Um, but they just um had the teach I I emailed um Oh, I can't remember what the name is, but I emailed her the next day and she gave me the lowdown that they just um gave the business manager permission to pay the bills
as they come through. Um and um they declared the rest of the materials that nobody wanted surplus and they're getting rid of it. And then I went to the um last workforce development meeting in Vermillion. And the only reason that that means anything at all is I um they had somebody from teammates mentoring there and that is a very neat program that is a minimal fee to districts. It's for school districts. Um they come in and you need buyin from your board. You need buyin from your administration. There has to be a board in place for the teammates program. Um, it's a 501c3 program. It's it's in your school, but it's not run by your school. And I really think it's worth us looking at to bring in it. It mentors all the way from
third grade through 12th grade. I'm thinking um for those firstgen students who maybe will be the first in their family to go to college. Um maybe kids that you know if we would have kids who were in the foster system, kids who not teachers >> a little bit. Yeah. Oh yeah. Sorry. Yeah. For kids. >> Okay. >> And it's adults. It's not peer mentors. It's adults that would come in and mentor. And the program does the background checks on the adults to make sure that, you know, we're bringing in responsible people who aren't going to bring further problems into our school. >> Is there like a program out of Sou Falls or like >> It's nationwide. Um >> I just didn't know if there was like a local >> Yeah, it there's local um they're
out of Rapid City, but it's in Sou Falls. um >> like a local office. I was thinking, you know, >> there's Yeah, their local office is in Rapid. >> Okay. >> But if if we're interested in looking at it, I can bring more information like that's a little bit >> coherent next time >> or drop it off. I mean, before >> Yeah, I could email it to you and then you can email it out. >> Okay. And then um so starting in July there will be an apprenticehip office at the state level and just wondering if we are going to explore any apprenticeship opportunities for our kids. just to think about it and is basically all I wanted to bring up >> and I know we are I don't know how we're going to classify
or code it but like do like an individual capstone class next year just cuz the state has changed the requirements for stuff so something >> through that class could be >> tied in you know job shadowing what I mean a bunch of things just um but we don't know what that class will look like because the they doesn't give us any guidance or I mean they're just like you need to have this separate class in order to say that you have kids that are prepared for this or that. It's basically what we want to do. But >> yeah, and I don't know if they have anybody like in that office yet that will head that apprenticeship, but might be worth reaching out when they have somebody if they if you could tie it into that
because kids could potentially be paid for doing some of that. That's all I have. >> Thank you, Dan. >> Um, nothing other than uh like to thank him for 20 plus years of service. >> Thanks. >> We missed, >> but you won't be far away. No, >> I won't. >> Yeah. And that was basically mine as well. I know we had a um the school did a retirement um get together for Mrs. summer snelson and for Lanne and so just the board thanks all of them for their many years of service. We lost a lot of institutional knowledge with the three of you leaving and so um feel free to stop in whenever you do. You're welcome to tips got me on speed. >> Good. Good. No, but just thank all of them for their
their years of service. Absolutely. >> Scott. >> All right. Um we're finishing up our year end report for the state. basically just making sure that everything's submitted and done the state. I think that's due the end of the week. Um I did have Pitts come back and look um at the I would call the old elementary area. Teachers are inquiring about the possibility of getting some cabinetry in there similar to what we have in the two newer parts. So they are doing some research on trying to get me some ideas on what that might cost. So, um, my thought is kindergarten room already has a bunch of cabinets in it. Um, more custom ones, but there's five other classrooms. We would look to do something in each of those rooms cuz otherwise it's just some
shelves and cabinets and the stuff's still in there. So, we're working on that. Um, if anybody asks, our class sizes change daily >> pretty much. Um, just so you're aware, we currently, I think, have three different classes that fall in the 27 to 29 population. Um, probably the three worst numbers you can have. But anyway, we're, you know, still monitoring that. Um, if if some of them grow, you know, we're looking at splitting them part time for math and ELA. We did that with a few grades this year. Who knows, we might be adding more teachers. Just, you know, you see that um we're doing the the very north um part like the high school part, that roof project. They will not get that started until next fiscal year. So, they weren't sure, but that
is basically the biggest roof project we would have in the next four or five years. There'll be a few more smaller ones and then all the roofs should be good for 15 years. Um, once again, that's knocking on wood. It's I shouldn't even said it, but anyway, uh, once again to reiterate the board stuff, Lanne, thank you. It's been, um, quite the adventure. So, I appreciate all the help you've provided to me over the years. um you'll be missed. But um I said I got a phone call number. So when I when I have a question, I'll still call you. >> You might call me. I might block it though. >> Don't use that. >> So anyway, um and then I guess just a followup, we do have our final superintendence meeting for PLC on
the 17th. And I know there's a few things that are a little bit fluid as far as they're going to keep the accounts open in case bills come in and some items. dissolve. Um I guess the that dissolved as smooth as it could be. I mean just with as many entities involved in it. So um I think that's all I have. Any questions? >> Do you know if Mr. Johnson is going to the um reading conference? >> I do not know if he's going. >> I knew you couldn't. I was just curious if he was. Not that it I mean >> he hasn't mentioned it. So >> any other questions for Scott? All right. We'll go to the action items. So first item will be um discussion of the minutes. The previous meeting we had
two such minutes in their the 27th when we had that one single meeting and then the other one was May 13th. Which one did you want? >> On the May 13th in the principal's report. >> Um, second line almost to the end. Explicit conference. It should be explicit instruction. That's it. I just thought we might want to It's not an explicit conference. >> Instruction. >> Okay, that that was all I saw. And I meant to email you, but I just forgot. So, I'm sorry about that. That's right. >> That's all right. >> I can still >> um so then I just and then I know one question had come up about um some of the coaching contracts and I had asked Scott about that and Brandt hands them out and as they come back that's
when we approve them as the coaches turn them in. So, we'll get those from the non-teer coaches throughout. Kind of >> the only other thing I have on that, someone asked the other day about this, but say it's Claire Pop Keys kindergarten. The only reason I put a two there is I've started to put that denoting that that's a second teacher. >> Yeah. >> Just so when people >> they don't think we just >> Where's Lexi? No, >> Lexi is not going anywhere. >> Anywhere. >> Okay. So then I just need a motion to approve the consent agenda with the changes to the minutes otherwise as presented. I'll make that motion. >> Second. All those in favor I >> oppose? Nay. Motion carries. And I believe there were some additional bills that came in. >>
Yes. You should have like a page and a half in front of you. cuz we committed really early this month. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Anybody has any questions? Otherwise, we just need a motion to approve the bills as presented. >> Second. All those in favor I >> post those names. Motion carries. >> July budget hearing. >> So yeah, next month we'll have the hearing. I've looked back the last couple years. There was one time the meeting was at 6:00. We had the budget hearing at 6:30. There was one time it was at the meeting was at 6:30. We had the budget hearing at 7:15. We just have to have a set time for the budget hearing. So, um, my recommendation would be that the meeting's at 6:00, hearing at 6:30. >> Yeah. >> And we
can we can pause >> pause our other meeting. Yeah. >> You know, >> I think that usually works pretty well. >> Yeah. So, um, we'll set the budget meeting. >> I mean, I don't even know if that takes action like >> No, it doesn't. During the next regular meeting, um, >> right now is July 13th at 6:30. >> I'll just put it in the minutes. So they'll be published. >> Okay. So then the next item is I need a motion to go into executive session for SECL 12522 for discussion of student matter. >> All those in favor I >> post nay. Motion carries 623. Okay. Do you want me to hang out for a while for the next meeting or do you what do you want to do? No, you're good. Okay. All right. Thank
you very much. >> Okay, I will remember to keep them. >> Okay, come back. >> Oh, we were declared out of executive session at 6:52. We are on to adjournment. The next regular meeting is scheduled for July 13th at 6:00 p.m. Um, yes, you can call in. Um, we would do roll call vote on that. Um that's the one that just has a lot of like we restructure the board and appoint board of like the committees and things like that. >> You're not here when you're on here. >> Yeah. So just you know >> hey we get a different one. So it freeze. Maybe we'll just switch that reviewer. Perfect. Poor Jen. Every Monday from 7 to 7:15. >> Um, does that date work for everyone else? >> No. >> Okay. With then the next
regular meeting will be scheduled for July 13th at 6 p.m. The budget hearing will be at 6:30 in the library. I need a motion to adjourn. >> Motion second. >> Nikki and then Dan. All in favor? I nay. Motion carries. We're out 654.
