to order. Both here. Madison >> the pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you everybody. To have a motion to approve tonight's agenda. I don't need a second. We have a motion and second to do roll call. >> We'll have to do a roll call with any decision tonight because we do have Tim online. So roll call ready >> here. Go. Yes. Yes. >> Yes. >> I did not see any waiverss tonight. Is that it? >> Uh the next item is to approve the minutes from the Nova November 11th, meeting and those were emailed out. I don't believe other things that need to take place. But if not, we'll

need to do a motion to approve and then do a roll call. >> I'll make a motion to approve from November 11th. >> Have a motion in a second. Roll call. >> Yes. Love. >> Yes. Perfect. Next item is to approve the expenditures um A through C. Again, if there's anything the board wants to pull out, we sure can. But if not, we would need a motion to approve the expenditures. Make a motion to approve the expenditures A through C. Second. Okay, we have a motion and a second. Roll call. Vogue. >> Yes. >> Deers. Yes. Left. >> Yes. >> Campbell. >> Yes. Madson. >> Yes. >> Financial statements A through K. Again, if there's anything the board wants to pull out, we can. If not, we would uh need a motion. >> Make a

motion to approve financial statements A through K. >> Second. >> We have a motion in the second. Roll call. Both. >> Yes. Deers. Yes. >> Yes. Campbell. >> Yes. Snapson. >> Yes. >> Yep. So, we are on to new business um contracts. >> And first item just few here. Um first is uh certified substitutes $145 per day. Kim Hansen. Uh classified substitutes pair professional Kim Hansen 1956 an hour. Extra duty contract Dylan Gillespie, assistant high school wrestling coach, $3,44760. So, we need the action would be to approve those contracts as read that motion. >> I'll second. We have a motion and a second. Roll call. V. >> Yes. Deers. >> Yes. L. >> Yes. Campbell. And Matson, >> yes. Next item would be um a special meeting to be set for public input on the

school land project. We did set that kind of previously and start putting it out there, but it's January 14th um 2026, I believe, at 5:30 p.m. and in this room, correct? >> Well, we're going to put that uh I think we had said probably in the cafeteria. >> Cafeteria. Okay. So, we'll be in the cafeteria on January 14th, and we did decide to set that public meeting. Um, the entire board agreed to hold a special meeting just to talk about land use, so we didn't have to have all the other items on the agenda. Um, and so that will be January 14th at 5:30 in the cafeteria. So um with that we would >> well and I one thing I would comment on that yeah like like I guess I would like the board to

approve >> that date for that meeting day just you know for the benefit of the audience you know that'll be kind of a uh um like kind of a town hall style thing like we'll give uh so you won't have all this other business I mean there will be probably a limited amount of time to speak but it'll be a little more of a back and forth like in a regular board meeting public forum it's just kind of, you know, you stand up, you get two minutes to speak your piece, the board just listens. Uh, they don't really get into any back and forth. That'll be a meeting specifically where, uh, the public can ask questions, interact a little more with the board members, that kind of thing. And then I'll touch on meetings later.

>> So, we just need a motion to approve or to set that um, special meeting on January 14th. I'll make that motion. >> A second. Okay. We have a motion and a second. Roll call. >> Vote. >> Yes. >> Love. >> Yes. >> Campbell? >> Yes. >> And Matson? >> Yes. >> Okay. Next item is to we have a climate control proposal for the middle school remodel project that we need to look at. >> Was that in the that was in the packet? >> Okay. And basically again as I stated in my memo to the board um this is kind of separate from the rest of the building project because um just with the the relationship exist we already have with climate control and tying in with our existing system. um it just was kind

of simpler if we did this as an owner item and also it kind of knocked some of the uh added cost out of there too. So um so for that project the the total on this uh control thing is $63,645. >> So we're looking at a motion to approve that kind of control proposal. We weren't expecting to see, you know, some of this anyways, but I think a motion go. >> We have a motion in a second. Roll call, please. >> Yes. Love, >> yes. >> Handle, yes. >> And Matson, >> yes. >> Okay. Uh, next item is the June 2nd, 2026 combined voting agreement. Um, I'll let you explain if you'd like to, Margie. >> Sure. So, this is basically the same as last year with the exception of the fire district is not

going to hold their election in June. They're going to keep it in May. Okay. >> And so, they can. So, um, basically the same as last year. >> And it's just so we can combine them all >> just so we share the cost of the publications and and all the election costs. And we already set that election date in our meeting. State law mandates now that schoolboard elections have to be in June or November. There's no longer an April school board election date. So again, this is just the regular combined voting agreement, but we need to approve it. I make motion. >> Second. >> We have a motion and a second. Uh roll call, please. >> Yes. Lux, >> yes. >> Campbell, >> yes. >> Matt, >> yes. >> Okay. The next item is the

first reading on the policy for the refueling station. Okay, I'll just uh I'll speak a little bit to kind of the procedural thing that we're doing here and basically um and then I'll I'll have Zach kind of talk about uh like more of the specifics of why and how and that kind of thing and we can kind of go through the policy. Um, I guess one of the first things is as we talk about this, and like I said, Zach is going to go through basically what it is, why he's proposing to do it. Um, and one of the first things we need to do is is I think establish a policy when we have something like this that uh that's just going to govern how it's going to go, that kind of thing. We

have some uh people in the community wanting to volunteer and be a part of that and provide some resources. And so a policy just really sets some boundaries and establishes, you know, who's going to make decisions on on, you know, snacks and different things that are being refueling station? And so with that, has the board had a chance to read that policy? Okay. And I we can go through it bullet by bullet if you'd like. Uh but I guess I'll turn the floor over to Zach first uh kind of give some explanation and then if you want us to read through the policy we can sure do that point. >> May I ask would it be possible to have it shown on the screen over here? >> Was it in the package? >> It's towards

the back 28 or 35. That's hard to scroll when you're looking backwards. Should be next >> right after the voting or right after that. >> Thank you. Do you want to kind of give us more explanation of why and what and how and all that stuff? >> Yeah. You know, this is something that I'm I'm actually really excited about and have been have been working to get something similar to this established for a while. In the summertime, um I use money that's donated by the booster club to before our workouts make all the athletes, you know, peanut butter and jelly, have granola bars out for them, fill up chocolate milks and orange juice. And this will just give us an opportunity to kind of do that year round. Um and take the funding away really

from the school there. We don't have to supply that. Um, with this, uh, right now we're planning the setup for this to to start out in my office. You know, that might end up moving, but really all I need is kind of a cooler to keep this going or fridge of sorts. Um, and the times we're looking at would coincide with those strength and conditioning and practice times. Um the big need for this comes from right now we we have about 40 athletes that are here um either at 6 or 7 a.m. three days a week and most of those athletes also have practice after school. So we're looking at you know kids spending up to 12 hours a day at our school and really only having the opportunity for lunch kind of right in

the middle of the day. So or or the breakfast as well. Um, we're looking at doing this from 7:00 a.m. in the morning to 8:20. That first group of lifters gets done right at 7:00. So, my office would be open. I'd be in there for them um from 7 to 8:20. And then also 2:35 p.m. to 3:20. So, right at the end of 7th period, a lot of our older kids, you know, seniors and might won't have a class 8th period. So we give them an opportunity if they have practice they can stop in get a snack maybe a chocolate milk protein shake whatever is available at that time before their practice. Um right now looking at criteria u first and foremost would be any athlete in season and that would apply to those at

the end of the day. So anyone who's in right now would be wrestling boys basketball girls basketball have an opportunity to stop in at the end of the day. um or any athlete participating in our strength and conditioning program. So, those coming in in the mornings. Um we do have a couple classes throughout the day as well. So, we have to align with with the state standards set um for those meals. And then, uh the rules we're looking at for this would be, you know, each time an athlete visits one one drink and one food item. Um the athletes in strength and conditioning would have to do that after their workout. And then athletes in season have to do it at the end of the school day. So before their practice and just kind of

bridging the gap between lunch and that practice time and supper. You know, our kids are burning a lot of calories. We're here all day long and this will help keep fuel in their bodies. So to what level or what extent do you want to go through the policy? Do you want uh do you have first of all do you have any questions at all? >> I do not. I thought it was good. I thought it looked good. I think it sets up the parameters. It gives the ad the ability to what can we do? What can't we do? Um I think it's in line with you know what we have to do by state for the types of food that we provide and you know whatever. And then I also like that it gives some

option if we do like we have a lot of people that want to give donations of hey I want to do some granola bars this week or I want to do this. It sets it up that we can you know accept those and have those which is good and we have a rule in place so if somebody wants to do a bunch of candy well that doesn't meet the standards. It has to be healthy food. We are kind of hopeful that it'll expand as as you know it continues and you know we'd be able to help everybody out but kind of just looking at starting small here with with athletes being involved. >> And I noticed the allergens too. I think it's good that we have that in there. You know nuts, gluten, all that

stuff. We have to be careful with that too. >> Well, that makes me feel a little kind of looking at you know maybe expanding this in the future because my first thought is okay. So, we're going to show favoritism toward our athletes versus our kids that aren't involved in athletics. >> They have to go pay for a meal at the cafeteria, but our athletes >> No, our athletes still have to pay for a meal at the cafeteria. So, this isn't even >> But if they're going to have the option of going to your office to grab a snack before school in lie of buying breakfast, but someone who's not involved in athletics still has to go to the, you know, cafeteria to buy breakfast. Can you see where it's kind of a, you know, athletes

versus everyone else? >> I understand what you're getting at, but would have to disagree with that just because we're talking about kids who are coming in to work out and burn calories beforehand, not just showing up at school to get that. So, they'd be involved with all of the stuff happening before the school day to get >> and I completely I I love the idea of making sure that our kids are, you know, getting those nutritional needs met. I just worry about it being a we're showing a favoritism showing favoritism toward one group over another. But um I do like the idea of starting it and then potentially expanding it if that's possibility later. And then one thing to note too here kind of the last bullet is that you know this policy won't apply

to snacks uh that that teams buy with their fundraiser money like like for instance you know speak for like the cross country team like it's kind of a thing we sometimes after workout they'll eat twisters you know well that wouldn't meet this policy but that's also not something provided through this thing so it's it's a thing. Okay. Well, then if there are no other questions, that's just a first reading on the policy. So, next month, we'll bring it back. And if between now and then, if you think it's something that needs to be addressed, we can we can have that discussion, you know, on the admin level and then discuss it in a public meeting and and make whatever changes need to be made. Uh we'll assign a policy number to it and and the

plan will be to adopt it at the January meeting. Okay. The next item on the agenda is the first reading of the school policy. >> Oh, there you go. Okay. So basically the the impetus for this is that as our culture and branding committee and some of our administrators have been working to um I guess uh identify our brand and kind of standardize our brand as far as colors, logos, that kind of thing. Uh and then also as we're like like as a school we're we're working to get more apparel out there and that kind of thing like Digger Depot and there are other groups outside groups that want to help with things. Um we felt it was appropriate to have a logo policy in place uh just to kind of guide uh the use

of our logo so that we protect it uh we we have control over it. But this policy is really uh is really pretty pretty permissive or actually pretty easy for somebody to get access to our logo. Like if they're if they have good intentions and they're doing something to to help to promote the school district or whatever, there's pretty simple process to ask for that logo. They just have to identify a specific purpose that they're doing it for. and then um we we could grant that permission and when that project is over they would need to request permission again. So that's basically the gist of it. Any comments from the board on that? >> I think the only thing I ask is put the policy framework together in the same so it looks the same

as all of our other policies. >> Yep. >> So right now you have one two three like that's that's not the framework. So just if you could just rework it to make sure it matches so that when it gets policy >> it matches the formatting. Other than that I didn't want to have any. >> My only question with it and you kind of answered it. So, say you have um a youth organization football that wants to use our school district's logo for youth football because the entire concept of our youth activities is to help build our activities within the district. Now, for football to be able to use that logo, um they would just need to get written permission from you or Zach, someone. And then as far as in here it talks about not

being able to um put the logo on products. So like say we do t-shirts for football every year um that says you know the 49ers we wouldn't we'd have to have permission or we would not be able to use the logo on those shirts. >> I you know and I think like with our youth sports we're like we're really going to try and work this policy isn't designed to go after anybody. So, the way I I would envision that working, and Zach, you can pipe up here too if you'd like, is I would envision like the youth football organization might at the beginning of the season submit a request and say, "Look, we're planning on using the logo on our jerseys and we would also like to do team t-shirts and you know, would you

like would it be okay for the 2026 season to do these things?" And then if you get halfway through the season and it's like, "Oh geez, I forgot to ask about this. It's not the end of the world, send an email." And I mean, it's going to be pretty easy to work through, but we just we just need to kind of have a a system where um we kind of know what people are using it for. We don't have another situation where somebody is uh maybe inadvertently or whatever putting up a website that looks very much like it's a school district website. And and it's one thing when it's a local organization with good intentions, but if you if you allow that to happen, then you have to be consistent and then there are people

out there with bad intentions. Uh, and so this just kind of standardizes our process. I I think it's pretty non-invasive. It >> states that the logo may not be used without prior written consent. So they need the prior written consent before I can use it. So here would be my other question too. Um, and and this might be a moot point, but is there still any type of um, is it still the school district's logo to use the Deu Bears? Because my question there would be that there are times, you know, our baseball team likes to do throwback and things like that. Would that be something that we'd potentially want to put in here, too? >> I guess I don't know. that that's possibly something uh that we can discuss. I mean, we need to

discuss that between this reading and the next reading. I guess I don't really I don't know. I don't have any heartburn over like the Deadwood Bears logo. Like if somebody uses that I don't think people look at, you know, like the pick pan and shovel people look at that >> and they know that's the lead deadwood school district or a pickaxe pickaxe. >> I don't think that still applies with the Deadwood Bears. It's kind of a archaic thing. >> The other thing I would say is I think that was a clip art of some sort. I don't know if that was ever a logo created by the school. >> No, >> I just wonder if we don't want to be careful protecting both sides of it because it is still something that's used. >> It's

our official logo. >> We didn't know that we >> really own it. Okay. >> So, here's a question. SOA, >> have you ever considered a, you know, made it a registered trademark? I mean, that isn't really that tough to do. Just give your logo unregistered trademark because you can say, well, you didn't ask me for permission. It's like, well, it's not a registered trademark. I can do whatever I want. I can use that logo and I can put some profanity below it. School has you can't do anything. >> And we have considered that and we're we're looking into taking those. >> I mean, it's really not that expensive to do that. and at least you have some protection. But right now you have none that it's like well that's ours. It's like well no I

can do it. Anybody can put it up there put some profanity on there and right now you can't do anything to stop it. >> Right. And that's part of our discussion with that as well. >> Thank you. I appreciate that. >> Okay. So this is just a first reading again tonight. Um I think Dr. Person will listen to you know what the comments were and then we'll see if there might be some changes between now and the next one. Um, it looks like we have a presentation by Brad. >> Thank you guys for the time. My name is Brad Buyers. Um, school coach this year. I've been working a little bit, not working, but talking with Zach and Eric. Uh, Kelly and I are looking to start uh the Lee Devwood uh gain foundation and

our primary um focus is to raise money to be able to actually pay for all the refueling station stuff um that Dax Zach's got um is getting involved in. Um the one thing is I've been kind of doing test runs on my own. I was chosen to to coach five six basketball last year with some elementary and middle school kids. Um before practices, we had study time and Kelly and I fed them three days a week um before practice and also worked on all their studies this year uh with middle school. Um Mr. Beagle was gracious enough to set me up with all the seventh and eighth grade teen teachers. So I met with them um and we had a study and refueling time on Wednesdays. We practice two days a week and on Wednesdays

we would meet after practice no practice. We would get all of our studies done. The teachers would contact me Tuesday evening or Wednesday to see if anybody was in in trouble of being ineligible. So I wouldn't find out Friday morning and not be able to do anything about it. Um and then we did limiting after that and it made a huge difference. Um I also brought pegasus. I did you distribute all these? >> Well, I was just texting Zach. I'm like yep. I told Brad we'd make copies and then we forgot to do it. Okay. So, >> okay. >> So, I've got a PDF. Um I put together um our uh scaled down business plan in regards to uh the nonprofit. Um Eric's got those. Um so, he can forward those. If you need another

copy, um let me know and I could forward those, too. Uh but we put together um a one, two, three, and a fiveyear plan. This first year plan is going to be focusing um on the athletes uh but also um in regards to being able to fund that whether it's and it's every single athlete, every boy and uh female athlete throughout the season, throughout the workout. So, there's a lot of offseason athletes right now that are lifting. Um they need to refuel. Um the reason I know that this works is we have Lil Hudson who's a seventh grader. He's our seventh kid. We've had six athletes already at a actually we will now have four out of college next this weekend and next weekend uh that all um played at a high level um in

Michigan where we came from or played at the next level and this is one thing that they implemented. And the one thing too is I also brought studies that I can forth to you guys regards to how athletics and districts I brought um at least 10 studies within the last 10 years that improved not only the academics uh but the um test scores everything else like that. So, we really want to try to focus and and encourage the um athletes here and the potential athletes to join and let them know that hey, you know what, it takes a lot of work, but we're going to feed you the right things and those type of uh you know, important important items. Uh the one thing is is even on our my tiny little study with my

middle school team, um disciplinary actions during season were way down. Correct, Mr. Beagle? um all we had and then um eligibility was way up. It wasn't an issue this year. Um and the communication with teachers with me to do my job as a coach, not only just to coach them, but also to make sure they're student athletes and remind them that that student become that word student comes before the word athlete uh makes a big difference. And that eating and letting them know like, hey, you got to put in the hard work, but we have to be. Now, year two, what I want to do, um, what you will see in this is, uh, team up with the local universities and put together a free tutoring program for all of our student athletes. Um, as

well as any other ath any other student that wants to be here. Um, there's tremendous opportunity at the universities that I've talked to in regards to especially BH. They have teachers coming out of there all the time. Um, and it's one of those things too where it also opens up a pool of teachers for you guys to actually hire too, so you're not sitting there looking across state lines to try to coach people over here as well. Um, the one thing that I want to really hope uh is to have your guys' support. I wanted to come here and present it to you and give you all the information. So, I'm hoping, you know, you have questions. I was hoping to do a Q&A if you guys had this, but feel free to reach out

because I want to make sure that um you know that our foundation wants to work with you, but it is tough to start a foundation. So, I kind of need to know like if this is something that you guys are going to get behind because, you know, it is money that Kelly and I are spending on our own with our attorneys and things like that to set it up properly throughout the state and make sure that it follows your guys's policy when it comes down to what we do. um and things like that. And so to be able to get this started, I really want to start it at the uh beginning of the second semester somewhere in January um and just start on the Monday, Wednesday, Fridays and then start getting into all the

athletes. Now, the one thing too I did you mentioned, you know, are we not including other students? Well, at the musical, I saw quite a few athletes singing last night. So there are a lot of cross in there, but this right here gives a potential to be able to cross those here in the next couple years. And because of the size of the school, we have so many athletes that are doing other curricular extra group or activities. And also, it's one of those things to get people who may be afraid to get into athletics or be part of a um of a team to get them, but then also at the same time get them stronger, faster, smarter, all that type of stuff. So that's what we are planning to do, but we, you know,

can't really move forward that we have supported the board um to be able to set up this foundation. Um because um all of our food for middle school was actually we had local businesses come into our store to find out what we were doing for our middle school teams and write us checks to pay for the rest of and the entire year and our average school. So the community in Deadwood on Main Street who have no kids in the district, have no ties to the school necessarily for a long time or at all actually came to us and think it's a great idea and I think it will bring the community together because you know we are two towns but we are one team type of thing. Um, and I think it would benefit our

community not only to um increase our success at athletics. Um, but also with grade point averages, test scores, those type of things because nutrition right now is so huge. And like Zach said, he's absolutely right. I've got a I've got we've got a 12-year-old probably burning 3,00 to 3200 calories a day, and it is tough to keep up. and when when everybody else and we want to provide that so it doesn't take a burden out of your guys's budget but also promote what what needs to be done. Um just one more thought I have a whole study too which I'll email to Eric that you can distribute um in regards to growing athletics how it does help um the grade point averages scores but also grows the district. I know we our district gets smaller

and smaller, but I think, you know, with what we have here, it's such a great place. I don't think others know about it. And if you start to build successful athletics and things like that, your district will grow. Um, so I've got plenty of studies um over the last 15 years with sites and everything. If you guys would like me to forward those to you, I'll be more than happy to. >> Okay. Thank you. >> And Brad, again, I apologize about the copies, but right at the end of the meeting, I can run up and print some off. Um, and I I think this actually kind of I mean I'm assuming that's why it's on the agenda this way, but with having first two first readings of the policies, I think it would be beneficial

if we'll get that information from Dr. Pearson, we can review it. Um, maybe have Brad come back at the next meeting because then we'll have the second reading of the policies because the policies kind of need to be in place before we can do anything anyways. >> So maybe that would be beneficial and then in the meantime, we'd have the opportunity to read through your full presentation. So that would be my thought process. Is everybody okay with that? >> Perfect. Thank you. Um it looks like we also have Greg here for a student. Okay. I'm going to say leison on >> Yeah. Greg Watson she said. Thank you. Um first on my report I wanted to throw out some numbers to you on our attendance. Um these are uh defined absences from the school board

policy. So uh from the beginning of the year to uh December 5th when I ran these numbers I have sent from the elementary school 41 letters um 5day letters out of those 41 12 of them uh have missed more than 8 days. The middle school 31 letters have been sent out uh 17 of those missed eight plus days and at the high school 66 letters sent out 29 of those missed uh 8 days or more. And again, that's um with a grain of salt. That's especially with the middle school and the high school are taken by period. So, we've been working with them. I've been working a little bit with all the principles of each building to hopefully get those numbers down. Before the year, we uh identified 15 high-risisk students who were put on

my case load for checking connect. Uh out of those 15, I've sent five day letters or five five-day letters to them. And uh three of those five have missed more than eight days. So, we're seeing some success with the check and connect program. Um, that's a small sample size. You can extrapolate it a little bit, but we're going to continue to work on getting those numbers lower hopefully this next new year. As far as successes go, I was able to um work with our school district to find um affordable housing for one of the families at the elementary school. Uh we have one uh little kiddo who uh is now receiving mental health therapy and spearfish because of the connections that we've made. And for Thanksgiving, we were able to find um a Thanksgiving meal

to four of our families here in the district. So, that's been pretty nice. This community does a great job supporting each other, as coach was saying. So, uh two families uh in the district uh including a new family were given $77 Dakota gift cards through um the Turkey Bowl fundraiser that Dr. Watkins uh did for the middle school. and I have 40 families that are signed up and sponsored as of right now for the Christmas wish list program. So, we're going real strong with that. Uh through Mr. Van Bibra's newsletter, I've been able to connect families with good sheeperd medical clinic, the Deadwood IARE gift to site program, lasagna love program, uh community closet at the Christ Church Episcopal, and uh every food bank around the Lee Deadwood area have been promoted. So, just wanted

to say thank you to this community. Um, we're doing a great job, especially during the holidays. So, >> thank you for the up. >> Absolutely. Marino just thanking us um for losing her family member. We did get a piece of um and then the next one would be administrator reports. We have Dr. Pearson with his superintendence report, please. Hey, I'll try to be somewhat brief, but you know how. >> So, I guess first of all, um just give a little quick update um with our school land project. And I see that's generating a lot of interest here in the community. Um and I've got some handouts here for that. I'll wait just a little bit before I hand those out. I remember my high school speech teacher telling me that uh I told the whole

class you want people to listen while you're talking. Don't hand them a sheet of paper that they're going to be reading. So talk first, then give your handouts. Roger Allen. Yep. All right. We went to the same high school. Anyway, um so uh a couple of things. First of all, tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. in high school cafeteria, we're going to have our first uh gold digger community coffee and that's a little different format, a little less formal uh for people to come and give some input. Hopefully, we get a good turnout. Um you know, we've we've kind of tried to promote it, get it out there in the I think it was in the Black Hills Pioneer and and um we've kind of had it out on the school website and we've been telling

it as much as we can. Anyway, that'll be an opportunity for uh me to sit and answer questions and we'll serve coffee. Coffee will be free be free uh and community members can express their thoughts, concerns, questions. We'll have cards. People can write down their questions and comments and we'll post them on a bulletin board there. Then we can kind of tabulate all of that. Um I had some board members ask, would it be a good idea for some board members to be there? And so I'll just state this again publicly. the same thing I sent to you guys in an email. Yes, that'd be that'd be probably great to have some board members interacting with the public on in that informal vetting with this caveat. You know, we haven't advertised that as an official

meeting. We haven't posted an agenda. So, we can have two board members there, but not three. Get to three and then get So, does anybody know if they're going to be there tomorrow? I mean, no pressure, but >> I can be there if anybody's not there. Or I can be at Santa. >> I can be there, too, but >> there's two of you can be. >> So, it kind of sounds like we're not going to have a quorum. I'm not going to worry too much about it. >> And then, uh, the second such meeting of that format will happen in Deadwood uh, on January 7th in the elementary school cafeteria. Same thing, coffee, possibly a cookie or two. Um, and just kind of an informal conversational type of thing where people won't have to get

up and talk in front of a large group of people. Yes. >> Do you want students there? >> Students are more than welcome to come. Yeah. >> Yeah, that'd be great. Um, thank you for that question. So on that, I've just got a couple of things, a couple of the highlights that I'll hit on this and I've updated kind of a question and answer document that we've had um throughout this project. We've been talking for a couple of years here and I think some of the big questions that come up are, you know, like like how how much commitment has the board already what is the board already committed to? what's you know what's the eventual plan and all that kind of stuff and and so tried to put some of that in writing in

this Q&A document and I'll share that here in a little bit but I guess first of all I want to touch on again our purpose for for exploring this is we've got an existing resource and you know you'll you'll hear people say all kinds of things that you know the land's not buildable it's going to be expensive to build on all that stuff and and that very well may be but there's process to sitting there and having those answers. Um, so we're we're we've been embarking on that process for a couple of years and you know the big deal is that our enrollment is declining. Uh, and we believe in this community and you've heard a lot of people say it that that's a a direct result of what's happened with our housing market that

you know homes are expensive here. um sometimes not always available when you need them. Uh I mean if you really want to live in Leader Deadwood, I think I think we can all agree you can eventually find a place. U but it's it's difficult. We we've had a lot of evidence to that effect. Uh that that that is difficult. And so we're looking at uh how could we leverage an existing resource that the school district already has uh to be impactful in a positive way in the community, do something positive for the community. And uh the other aspect of it is we've got a third of our staff members that live outside the district. And um we've had people turn down contracts because they they look at uh some of the housing options and they

get a little spooked and you try and talk them out of that. But uh we'd like to maybe explore what if we had a little inventory of some homes um that we could rent to people on a you know on a short-term basis, one year, two years, three years while they find their permanent home in Leader Desert. So those are some of the questions that the district is kind of looking at. And so one of the big pivots I guess from the original thing I guess I talked about that a lot in the in the last board meeting is that we're looking at uh you know breaking things up into tracks and the the big idea of doing a large development with like 50 homes in there uh really kind of is a little bit

on the back burner right now. So, where we've pivoted a little bit is in maybe getting some things ready so that when this comes up again, if it comes up again in a few years, uh do we want to sell some of that land for development? Uh we've got some things in place like covenants on that tract of land. uh we've got it platted so that if if the time is right to to sell that to a developer, um the district has at least some control over how that's going to go and the ducks are kind of in a row uh to get that going. But then also looking at some of the the lots that are potentially a little more accessible uh that are along city streets and things like that. Um it is

possible that in the near future the district could uh construct some homes there to meet that te that I say teacher housing staff housing need wouldn't have to just be teachers. And we've talked about some other ideas like maybe uh you know starting with the tiny home for example up by the water tank. You know maybe that would be a good fit for our high school construction class uh to build a tiny home as part of the construction curriculum. and then uh that could be a home that could be available for that rental, that kind of thing. So, you know, to answer the question, how committed are is the board to that course of action? uh it's really in the talking phase right now and it's in the phase of of exploring that. But a

part of that is as as we're having this land surveyed and we're going to take it to uh to the city for uh uh for platting, uh we're kind of putting those provisions in there that that could be a possibility. So I would think in the coming months and we'll have that updated timeline for you guys to look at. Again, uh we talked about last month, you know, originally we talked about approving that timeline maybe tonight and then I think at the last board meeting even we said, "Well, let's let's push that back a little bit, give people a little more time to give some input, talk it out, that kind of thing." Uh so I made some tweaks to that uh timeline and I guess I would share that now with uh with the

board and with anybody >> you put that up. It's in the bottom. That might be helpful. >> Bill, would you want to give me a hand? And >> looks like it's 32, like all the way to the end. 32 and 33. Maybe >> you can just kind of pass singers around the ring. >> Um, one before that is the one he's talking about right now. >> Oh, sorry. >> Mine's doing what yours did, Amber. It's like cutting it off. >> Oh, it's because that map I bet. >> I guess it is right after that. Sorry. The one that is handing out right now. >> Yeah. >> Kind of look at that. >> I guess if if the board has any comment on and again I'm not asking for approval on this. You know, there are

some of those things like in that gray area that have kind of already been those things are kind of already happening. Uh but some of the big decisions are in more of that blue and green area and those are things that down the road and not that when you approve this timeline that that means that's locked in, but it's you know getting a little more serious and and looking at committing some resources. So I guess what I'm asking for right now from the board is if there's something you know on that sheet that needs to change. We can entertain that discussion right now. Uh otherwise can continue to look at it some more and it'll come back up next month. That makes sense. Okay. >> Would you be able to confirm potential locations for these

tiny homes? We already did. >> Yeah. So, would you be able to put that map up? >> I don't know if that one's going to display very well. >> It's right over here. >> Right. We got got on both ends of the room here. Yep. And so with that, if you look at this kind of kind of brownish triangle here, tracks four. And that's right on Lost Irishman Road. There's like a little hill here, like a little home. >> The one that says track four is for home. >> Oh, right here. city water tank is right here. >> That's where we're talking about potentially the tiny homes. And so, just to give you an idea like on the approval process, if you if you approve that timeline, okay, that doesn't necessarily mean you're locked into

that. I mean, there will come a point in time though where it's like, okay, you got to decide if we're going to do this. And and I'll just say this I'll say this to my dear friends out here in the audience as well. I'm not willing to stake my livelihood on this. You know, this is something the board's going to have to decide that, you know, is this going to be something beneficial for the school district? Is it something that's going to be that it's it's going to uh help us achieve our goals? I I guess I'm I was kind of u given the direction to go ahead and put together some ideas, lead a committee, that kind of thing. I'm not willing to be run out of town with pitchforks and torches if you

know if you guys don't like it. So, I think that's where I'd like to maybe at some point, you know, you the board's got to say, you know what, we're done talking about this or hey, let's start with this little part. And I think perhaps, you know, one of those tiny homes or that little tiny home cluster on that one lot might be a good place to start because it's it's not as invasive. It's it's not putting a home, right? blocking somebody's view. Uh it's a lower dollar investment. Uh but I think it would also be an asset that you know if if it turns out it's not the thing, you've only got a certain level of investment there. You've invested a couple hundred thousand or a few hundred thousand, but then um you could

probably recoup that investment without doing something too large. And and again with with the larger potential development, what we're looking at right now is kind of getting that ready so that down the road I I would even say right now the time is probably not right for that big blue section, you know, uh not Yeah, for the big blue section, the time is probably not right to tackle that because there's just a very complex thing, you know, I think I think the market would have to be a little different. Uh then those pink areas, those are other areas designated in the potential flat that would be retained by the school district. And I guess if where I would kind of advocate for this phasing and this map is if I lived across the street from

that pink area, I would think the school retaining ownership of that piece and not selling it off to a developer might be the least scary scenario if if anything we're going to do this. And you know because I think uh and and even you know hearing some of the dissent on some of this stuff in my opinion you know it's been impactful that maybe like like we're looking at okay that's maybe not the place to start but maybe we can plat it and kind of have it ready but uh you know I I think when people do speak to us it's it matters. So, I guess that's about all I have on that. And and as I as I kind of get going down my report, I'll I'll get up and pass these sheets around

so you guys can look at them. But >> yeah, no, I'll I'll move on from this. >> Yes, we can keep this. >> Thank you. So, the next item I guess I'd like to report on, and this has been kind of a long time coming, but we've really been cautious, and that's uh we're we're about ready to launch. We're currently launching our official Deadwood School District Facebook page. There are a lot of people that get their information from Facebook and they uh they really use that more so than a website, but we kind of wanted to make sure we'd have somebody that uh is going to be in charge of it and that kind of thing. And so, uh, Caitlyn Clement has agreed to kind of take us on and get that Facebook page started.

And, uh, anything that she does outside of contract time, uh, will be paid on the, uh, the hourly rate that's in the negotiated agreement for teachers. So, you know, we already had a rate established there, and they're there at a higher rate and a lower rate. This will be at the lower of the two rates. Um, and then with that, like say if she posted something during her prep time during the school day, well, she would fill out a voucher to be paid for that time because she's already under contract. So, that's kind of how that would work. So, uh, I'd say give us about a week to really get it up and running. And I think over time it'll over time it'll get uh better and better. So, that's really kind of an exciting

thing to have that presence on social media. Uh, and it'll also correlate with our what do you call it, Jamie? The banner thing on the website, >> the announcements portion of the website, >> right? So, it should be able to post something. >> You can do both. That's >> simultaneously in both places. >> I was just say it might be helpful and I can probably help with it, but I'm an administrator on all of the Facebook pages, the PTO page, the middle school page, the high school page. give them free to somebody anyway. Um, ideally once this one is up and running, I'd really prefer not to have to post things on those pages. So, I would probably reach out to there's a couple other people that are administrators and just say, "Hey, if you're

willing, can we just take these pages down once the new one is up?" I think it would be helpful to kind of get everybody geared to one page to get all the stuff. The the only thing I had with that though is >> is the district going to be willing to post community stuff that has the verbiage on the bottom where we require you know that says this is not >> ailiating >> affiliated because if they're not willing to post those things then we need the other pages because that's how like all of the youth you know 49ers all all of the people who use those other pages >> but it would be beneficial I think for the district to be sharing that stuff. >> Okay. >> Like, hey, registration is happening. The 49ers. >>

I think that stuff would be Yeah, that'd be great. I When you first said community stuff, I was like, okay, $3 well with the Elves club. >> No, no, no. It's always like I'd say most of the time those pages, you know, 49ers football, softball, baseball, like when regular >> and then if everybody knew in those organizations, hey, you just send it to Caitlyn and here's your flyer, whatever you're doing, you still have to create the flyer, but you have one resource >> to send it to and then she would post it. It would be very helpful, I think, just community people to have one place Oh, you bet. Yeah, >> just to make sure that that >> and also I want to be clear like and you know if there's one that's out there

that says Lead Deadwood High School Facebook page and we have an official Facebook page. Yeah, I'd kind of rather have it go to our official Facebook page, but I don't want to like tell the booster club, hey, you can't have a Facebook page now or the PTO or something like that. I think there's ways we can work together, but just I think a little more clarity on what is actually the school district page because I've gotten, you know, and all these people are are well intended, but I've also caught flack about things that were posted on a Facebook page and it's like I I can't I I have no control over that. I I that's not my deal. So, >> all right, good deal. >> That was my only question. Uh and then kind of

along those lines, but kind of along those lines too, we've uh the culture and branding committee has been kicking around this idea and Jamie and I have kind of really been working on it and we've hired a a company to kind of put it together and it was I was really impressed. I can't remember what the exact amount was that they quoted us, but it was kind of cheaper for them to do the flyer and put it together and mail it out than it would be for us to actually for us to just mail it, you know. So, it's really cost effective there. But anyway, we're doing a uh and I saw this idea. The Kuster School District have done this for years and I kind of liked the idea. I I felt like theirs

was a little little bit too busy, too much stuff there. So anyway, uh Jamie, if you want to kind of flash that up there, it'll be kind of like this and just kind it's got some fact nuggets on there and there's a QR code where people could, you know, get more information about like our report card data, about our tax levies or whatever things. Steph, there you are. Teacher of the year. I got her permission. >> So anyway, we're really excited that that's going to go out uh to in theory all mailing addresses in the school district. I don't know if we have a perfect way to hit all and miss none, but I think we'll be pretty close. This this company is doing it for us. And uh yeah, I'm kind of excited about

it. It's just another opportunity again to reach out and engage with the community. Um kind of let them know what's going on. Yes. >> website, whatever, like if people missed it or they want to share it or or whatever. >> Yeah. And then we were actually going I didn't have the QR code for Facebook yet, but we actually going to promote that on there as well. >> Okay. Y >> Yeah. So, that's that's good news and kind of exciting. >> Um, now we get to talk about something that's not as much fun to talk about. Bill's making a face. Yeah, the middle school remodel. Um, we just like every time we meet with those guys, you know, we're we're happy with the quality of work that's happening over there, but it's like every time like

every week you talk to those guys, there's some delay and it's long lead times on certain things on some heating equipment, uh, you know, flush wood doors, uh, and then like those uh, aluminum and glass storefront doors. We've got like four of those that are going in there. Long lead times. So, we we kind of came up with a with an alternate plan. I mean, we were supposed to be moved into the new office. That's obviously not happening. That's probably going to be more like midFebruary by the time that happens. Uh well, then we kind of talk about how can we keep the project rolling. like we really want a lot of the demo work in the current office to happen over Christmas break when people aren't here. And so we we really talked about

some mitigation strategies to get some of the loudest work to happen over Christmas break school hours. So uh they've been pretty good to work with on that saying yeah they're going to try and accommodate that and and to do that Jay's going to kind of bear the brunt of it in the short term. We're going to move his office down the hall to another spot temporarily in the middle school. Eva will stay put for a while longer. We'll kind of seal off her office. So, it'll be the same when people come in. Come and go right there through that entrance. Meanwhile, back where Jay's office is, the nurse's office, the teacher workroom, and the uh conference room, they can start working in those areas. It's not ideal, but I think we're we're kind of trying

to do the best we can. Did I pretty much hit that, Bill? >> Thanks for your help. I'm just kidding, Bill. I I couldn't do this without Bill. He's he he does a lot as you guys know. Uh I guess the next thing I have is just real quick and that's our district pulse presentation where uh kind of like a state of the school or like a whole state of the union address. Last year we did it during the inservice schedule. He's not going to allow that. So I will deliver the district pulse presentation on January 12th at 4 pm. Staff community are all welcome. And then I found out that today that the Deadwood state of the city address is the same day at 5:30. Okay. Down in Deadwood. So mine will take about

a half hour or not 5:30. Mine will take about a half hour and then so if anybody wants to hit both they sure could. Um but anyway uh presentation is open to the public. Um and it'll be basically be an update on the status of the district. Uh >> put that on because last year didn't you have like a heading or something on the website for that afterward. You'll be the same really visible heading there and then and then Sarah I think will put the paper. She'll say something paper. She's pretty good about that. Um yeah, and finally the last thing we talked I think last month about the presenting to the school finance accountability board about being a half a percent over in our fund balance and that board approved our waiver for that

saying kind of saying you have to be taking steps to correct this but then that wasn't the end of the story. It had to go to the joint appropriations of the legislature and I'd been told kind of horror stories that they were not going to approve our waiver etc. And it was kind of like no discussion like us and Hill City both got our waiverss confirmed and just yep you guys are good don't bother us go away. So that's good good news. That's all I have. That wasn't that long. We have a lot. >> Okay. There's a lot going on. Thank you. Um, so we are to Mr. Belel. >> Yeah. So, >> want to talk about your office being a little junk. >> Yeah. Well, yeah, it's kind of a little closet for it'll

work out just fine. But no, everything's good. Um, so couple different areas here. Talking about a little bit about special education and uh the middle school. Um so every December um we have a thing called child count and child count is count of all children with disabilities aged 3 to 21 receiving special education related services uh according to an IEP. Uh special education child counts based on a count of eligible students served by each district on December 1st of each year. Child count is a federally federally required data collection and the count is also used in the state aid uh to special education funding which we do not qualify for. So um we report all these kids but we do not get um federal money or federal money for them. Uh child count must be

submitted by January 16th. So, we're teachers are going through all their uh case loads, their kids, and all the uh data that go along with that and making sure that everything is correct. And the final certification must be completed by February 27th and signed off by Dr. Pearson. Uh as of December 1st um we have 110 total students uh that are served in special education our school district and that's down 10 from last year uh at 100 we had 120 last year at this time. Elementary has 54, middle school has 30. Uh high school has 20. And we have six students that are currently served in out of district placements. Um we do have uh two new special education teachers this year. one in the sixth grade, Mrs. Bar and uh in the fourth and

fifth grade, Mrs. Peterson. And they're doing a fantastic job. They're really good hires. Um really pleased with their work. Um and last thing about um uh special education that really excites me is that we have a a state review sometime next year. So, those are really fun. I'll let you know. That's being sarcastic. So, um, anyway, uh, middle school, uh, construction, I'm not going to go into that. You've already heard about that. I just want to comment that the teachers and the students are doing a really nice job with with the inconveniences. Um, I know that teachers probably could come in and and bark at me a little bit more than they have, but they've been really nice and they're doing a really good job with um, keeping uh, kids engaged. So, uh, they should

be recognized for that. um you know, our career and technical ed uh focus in the middle school, I think, is a is is uh really a good um uh area that we're exploring and continue to grow. So that hire that we had this year um with the additional classes has has been going pretty well um and we really really looking forward to expanding uh those kind of offerings um next year and especially when we get our new classroom uh finished so that we can do all those things over at the middle school. Um just a quick update last thing I have on our new math curriculum that we started this year. Our teachers are really excited about it. It's been a good uh it's been a good addition to um just some comments for that.

It offers more practice than previous programs, includes built-in supports, and provides opportunities for increased rigor. Our special education teachers like the tiered interventions um and practice options to fit the needs of our students with disabilities. And um one of our math teachers said the book is laid out very well, has rope practice along with more challenging word problems that are good prep for our state assessments for all kids. So um I think we made a really good choice on our math curriculum called uh math and you and uh with that have any questions for me? >> Thank you for sharing all of that Mr. Yeah. The first thing I guess I'll mention about the high school is I established a a building leadership team and we we love acronyms in education. So we call it

VLT and no it's not bacon, lettuce, tomato team, but our building leadership team at the high school. Um you know the reason why they're there is to be to provide some input from the teacher and staff perspective. things like handbook. What are some ideas maybe to propose uh to change anything in the handbook? What about our master schedule, course offerings, our professional development schedule, our needs at the high school for professional development, and and just kind of overall in general get a pulse from the high school teachers and staff uh in regards to our culture. You know, as I've said before, we've really put a lot of um put a lot of emphasis on digger pride and it sounds like from my BLT that they think that is making a difference that that is how

we want to be and uh at the high school level. So, I'm getting positive feedback from them. But though, we'll meet about once a month or kind of as needed. Um you know, we just got started. So, anyway, so that's my BLT uh study hall. Just to give you kind of an update. Uh our schedule is one that the one of the benefits of our schedule is we have an extra academic time. We have an eight period schedule, seven regular classes in one of those study hall. Uh that study hall we are utilizing a lot more for academic interventions. Not just hey get your homework done. It's teachers who do you need to work with? So, we've put together that process, but the process we have in place is not perfect, but it's ongoing and

tweaking and making improvements as we going as we're going. But at the very least, I'm pleased to announce to you every day that we have study hall, our average kids that we have connections with and are working with either one-on-one or in small groups uh for academic interventions is at least 18 kids per day. So, some of that's math, a lot of it's math. Uh it could be English language arts, it could be social studies, it could be uh could be any of the elective areas, but but 18 kids per day. That's a pretty good number. Uh and I hope that just continues to grow as we tweak how we run our study hall. Um semester test schedule is coming up. We're at the end of the first semester. So again, we're we're running a

special schedule at the high school um for Wednesday and Thursday and Friday of next week. Uh we give extra time for them to have their semester test. So, it's kind of a FYI for you that uh because of that, there's times where high school kids will be in class on doing their semester test, but times where they may have a free period or uh it's it's an alternative testing period where it's like makeup testing. So, they may have that time off. Um second semester schedules are pretty much being finalized. Mrs. Brightitesman's working hard working with kids on dual credit classes, make sure those are good. Most of the non-dual credit classes are are pretty solidified. We're just seeing some tweaks here and there as we see its first semester grades come in or or other

needs that come up that we need to tweak those schedules. Uh a shout out to uh Dr. Olsen and our choir kids. They did a great job with the high school and middle school concert last night. Um so then Mrs. Rather, her turn is next week uh Monday. I encourage you guys to attend that and see our middle school and high school bands in action. And as an extra little note to that, um Mrs. Wolf, who's our new high school art teacher, uh she's putting some artwork on display as well to chance to showcase some artwork there. So, so anyway, uh so that will be the band one is next uh next Monday. Uh oh, also another little footnote to that. Um Amber and I are on the same uh outreach and parent involvement committee

and that group has told me I've wanted to do once a quarter put myself out there to meet some more parents and a little more outreach there and um my first one I did in October I believe it was we had Sherry how many about six people we didn't have a super great turnout but um but it was nine o'clock in the morning and that committee was like maybe you want to try to connect it to an event. So, my next one is going to be the same night as the band concert. I'm piggying back off the band concert and a chance for me to interact and present some things about the high school at after the band concert. Um, and then lastly, um, if you didn't know, uh, I was lucky enough to be

tied in the face. The National Honor Society did a food drive and they who whoever had the most donations put in their box or money donated, they got pied in the face and so uh it was good for my complexion. I got a nice pie in the face uh about a week and a half ago or so. So, but uh I don't know ex I forgot to get the totals of what they raised, but uh for um for the Lord's cupboard, uh they were able to get a a lot of good donations monetary and uh food. So kudos just what was it? Eight boxes. Remember the number the donation number some boxes. >> So but anyway my complexion is really good after that. So NHS is really getting involved. Proud of them. Student council getting

very uh involved as well. We got a group some student organizations that are really trying to contribute to the community and make it uh make it better. So that's it for me. >> Thanks MR. Uh, next activities, Zach. >> Yeah, something new kind of going on for us. Um, with that game one contract we signed last year, uh, by December 20th, I had $2,500 to spend through Under Armour. So, um, coming up here shortly, you'll see sweatshirts and sweatpants that the students in Mrs. Todd's class have designed. Um, that that'll be for sale in the Digger Depot. Um, and the only cost to us with those was the actual screen printing on them. So, the we got $2,500 worth of sweatshirts and sweatpants for free sent to then use the design our kids developed in

class and and those should be for sale here as soon as the winter sports kickoff. It should be that box anytime next week. Um, Mr. Embro touched on our fine arts years that have been going on from, you know, the choir concert Monday night and then the band concert next week with the art gallery walks in there as well. Um, so I kind of missed my fall sports report. I think I had something scheduled that night that I was supposed to present that last. So I going to touch on that a little bit here with uh cross country starting off. Um, the girls had a very successful season. They sent two to state um and came close to qualifying as a team. I believe on their varsity roster they had one freshman and the rest

of the girls were middle schoolers, >> right? >> Yep, that's correct. >> Boys were all middle schoolers. So, you know, those programs continue to grow. Um the numbers are going up and the results are also, you know, increasing every year. Um boys golf sent one to state and had two other golfers on the fring of qualifying. The dance team ended up falling up falling below the number of athletes needed to participate at state dance. They did a couple competitions, but um by the time state dance came up with some ineligibility issues and other things. They fell I think you need six if I remember right participate they fell below that number. Um football did end the season win list but if you attended those games this year um you saw they had a much more

competitive season. There were five games right in the middle of the year that we were in. Um and you know in our senior night the boys had the number four team in the state in class 11B kind of against the ropes there. One on a last second play. Um right now we are waiting to see what our enrollment numbers look like with the free and reduced lunch multiplier um to see our classification. As soon as I kind of get that, you know, I'll have a better idea of what our schedule will look like. But that will come out. The schedule will come out in the spring um as soon as it comes out. I'm going to present that to the Deadwood events committee um as it's published and then uh the Kowanas Club work with

them to set up the prospector bowl for next year. And with the events committee, you know, we'll look at our homecoming game and what date works best for that. Um volleyball this year won double digit games um and had their most successful season since 2019. Um, next year they will have a schedule change with the conference split. So the teams from the Black Hills Conference, you'll hear you'll see us playing next year for volleyball and boys and girls basketball be Kuster, Belfoo, Hill City, Hot Springs, and Redcloud. Um, some of the games that we picked up to make up for those double A games in two Rapid City parochial schools we're losing are um, Macintosh, Timber Lake, Dupri, and Jones County. Um I'm looking to get one more game in there to fill out our

volleyball schedule for next year. Hopefully in a school um on more toward the east side there. Um moving into our winter sports here. So girls basketball season actually starts tonight at Belfoo. They're playing their first game. Uh they lost five seniors from last year's team and snapped a 48game losing streak. Uh they do have some low numbers this year, but uh with the middle school season wrapping up here, they'll have enough for a varsity and a JV when some of the eighth grader eighth grade girls move up to play JV basketball. Um and the schedule for us will look more like we have a varsity and a C team. So not really going to play many JB games, but they they'll pick up those C team games since it'll be mainly eighth graders and some

freshman there. Um, boys basketball this past weekend participated in a Northern Hills officiating jamboree. And what that is is just a day where all the new referees in our area get together. They have a classroom session and then they they get to work in uh teams to officiate games. We played Belfoo beat Foo by 15 in the Jambbury with our varsity and their varsity. Uh we're going to have enough boys to play to be levels this year. a varsity, JV, and C team. And you know, if you look back here, ever since Coach Jansen's taken over the boys basketball program, we've steadily increased, you know, kind of the success that we're having. So, looking for another good year this year. Um, wrestling was down at the Kuster Invite last weekend. We sent six boys and

placed three. Um, sent seven girls, placed five, and Eddie Atkins won title at 145 pounds. um this weekend. So, Friday and Saturday, wrestling will be in graphic and without any questions. >> Thank you. >> So, we do um have a chance public forum and I think it's my information out. I'll just read them. I just go down and whatever you would like to say, you sure can see. Um, keep in mind that the reason why we set up the next meeting where it's we're just going to talk about, you know, the the items, but we wanted everybody to have a chance to see this Q&A and kind of the timeline tonight. That'll be out there. Um, and then we can have more detailed discussion about those if you want some time to kind of look

through that information and come to other meetings where we're just going to talk about that stuff, too. So, if you want to um but the first one is Louie. You have any comments for tonight? >> No, it's fine. >> Okay. Thank you. Um Greg, >> um I I have a series of questions and I only have two minutes, so I'm going to reel off my fine. >> Okay. I'm I'm wondering how are the people that are working on the project, how did they get paired, like the engineers, surveyors, that kind of stuff. That's my first question. >> Um, how much money uh has been allocated towards leasing this project? >> We all saw a $4.3 million overage or whatever you want to say. And I'm I'm I'm wondering how much money have you actually allocated

a certain amount of money to be spending on this? and how do those decisions get made? Um, I think that's I want to make just one statement on the tiny home deal. If I had a big piece of ground in the Black Hills and I've been selling property for 45 years, the one thing I've seen is property values go up continually. Owning a piece of property isn't a liability, it's an asset. And it grows in value, especially in the Black Hills, it grows in value all the time. And so when I see that we own this wonderful piece of property and the first thing we're going to do is go in and and put in a bunch of tiny homes. Well, the people that want to come in and put in the million-dollar homes, they're

going to take a look at a bunch of tiny homes and go, "I don't know. I mean, this is my humble opinion, >> but I think they're going to take a look at that and think it's, you know, we don't do we really want to build here because look what they're doing so far. They're putting in a a bunch of shacks." So, just my humble opinion and I'm done. >> Okay. Okay. I don't know if we'll answer the questions tonight necessarily just because, you know, we would need to look at some of that. We do have a lot of those numbers together. Um, which I know will be presented at the public meeting and some of those numbers are in that document that we just handed out tonight. >> Um, >> will you be uh

you be coming in? >> Okay. >> So, you can go through a lot of those, but I am writing down kind of so we know what to expect with those questions. Um, okay. >> One last thing. H have you been in talks with any developers? >> We have had some discussions but not anything serious. >> Can you give us the names of the >> Bill Pearson is the one that's come he has come to a couple meetings. >> Okay. >> Because obviously he has a like property. >> Yeah. You know I earlier this week I asked you for the committee members >> and and after a couple days you did send them to me. >> Yep. >> I didn't see any developers on there. No, we we just had individual we had some meetings that

basically we asked stakeholders so people that had like thing they came in and talked to the committee not to this group because we're not that far yet. >> Yeah. And I don't want to I don't want to get into a whole back and forth thing right here. That's not what public forum is for. But there's a reason we didn't put developers on that committee. And the reason was that then that would kind of take them out of the running to like like to bid on it >> if they ever wanted. there be a conflict of interest there. >> You know, that that was kind of the line of thinking there. But >> y >> So, but these all good questions and I definitely think, you know, when we can have more of that back and

forth, we can put those down on there. >> Okay. Um Keith, you and also Phil. >> I guess I've got a lot of a lot of stuff answered today. I do would really like to see that uh sometime in the near f near future that you get some pictures and drawings and stuff like that of the type of houses you're going to build. Uh and I think that would be good for you guys too to be just because we have all this tiny home. I don't know if it's going to be look like a 1960s home or if it's going to be like a two-story home or any of this stuff, but it would uh it'd be nice to and I think it's you're you're at the time where you probably need to start uh

putting some ideas in there, >> you know, just to give you some idea. Um, you know, like like I really like what Bill did with that with Stage Run, you know, like you know, Zach lives out at Stadun. So does Mike. Um, you know, uh, homes kind of like that I think would really fit fill a good need. I've been over looked at those. And yeah, those are nice homes. >> Aside from like where we said three or four tiny homes, >> you know, I know I semantics, but I know you said a bunch of tiny homes. We're talking about three or four. Yeah, possibly. So, yeah. >> And that was the three that I had that had um, picked out before. And you know, these forms are just nice because it gives us we

know kind of what you were here for and then also spelling of your name and email and contact information if we need to. Um, I think that's kind of all we had tonight. And then just I encourage you guys, you know, to please come on the I'm going to say the date wrong. 14th >> 14th January 14th um in the cafeteria there. We'll have some more information. I know at the last meeting I had mentioned that um we were still waiting on surveying. We are we got an update this week. So we're hoping still this is kind of kind of what it's going to look like but we will have the actual like the plats. Um but we're not platting a lot of individual lots or anything at this point. It's just the tracks to

be able to get the tracks open up. You're looking at about five tracks. >> So hopefully you guys come have a cup of coffee with me tomorrow. We're hoping we'll have that by the 16th. They're trying. So >> the uh seven lot, let me ask you >> the seven lots that you're not doing those now or is that a track? >> Well, that's Yeah, just I mean, yeah, we're like we're being transparent with you like like this tracked 1A and 1B, I think. And and I'll just be honest with you. My initial thought was let's let's plat that into lots at the same time that we do these boundary plats and then it's just done. And I was kind of told, you know, that that's a little cumbersome that they kind of have to do

it in two stages. And so I think that initial plat will just have the boundary plat of the tracks if I'm not mistaken. Um but yeah, I'm just being straightforward with you. The intent was to to divide those into lots. Like like I said earlier, you know, a lot of this comes from talking with you guys, engaging with you. Like maybe that isn't the place to start with this stuff, you know, like like you know, >> we're Yeah, we're listening. >> Yeah. I think it's very important for people to understand >> we are still just in the planning stages. That's why we're having these meetings now, which is why we want you guys to be involved. >> The tiny home deal I that's on lost Irish me, >> correct? We, you know, through the years

we've had some properties back there that we tried to sell and uh we've ran into uh uh issues with access. Have you perfected your access? >> Yes, >> that's been perfect >> to a certain point. We can get there. >> If I don't like your We've perfected it. I mean, but we've yeah, we've met with we've met with the city on that and gone up there and talked about, you know, what it would take and it's, you know, it's about 150 yards worth of lost Irishman there. It's not it's not like three miles back on Irish. >> Yeah. But I'm I guess when I say that, we've run into people that own property that went across the road and they put up a gate and >> that's past the Okay. So, >> so we're before

you get the part we're looking at for tiny houses would be before you even get to the water tank. >> So, that that area in there that there's open access >> that part there we're okay on. >> Okay. >> But at least get to it. >> Okay. >> Yep. Past there. I would agree with you. There are issues past that point. Yep. >> Okay. I think so. We have some questions. you you want those? Yeah, you can kind of I wrote up >> well and I'm sure he'll come >> that way have some questions to do. >> Um so we're having that next meeting that's going to be more of an open format. Um we will still ask you know we'll go through the normal process have you sign in when you come in because

it's good to have that information >> On the 14th. Yep. So we'll go through that same process. >> Okay. All right. So, we are next meeting or regular meeting is Tuesday, January 13th, and then we'll turn around and have our special meeting on Wednesday, January 14th. Okay, I I am going to ask a question before we turn on the 13th just so these guys aren't necessarily We probably won't have anything on that agenda related to the school project, I'm assuming. That you mean on the >> on our regular? >> Yeah, that'd be the I think >> the 13th. >> 13th, right? >> Yeah. We won't have anything that night during this. So, you don't necessarily need to come to both nights. Just so you know, the real stuff will happen on the 13th. >> The

discussion. Yeah. Just so they know they don't have to come two days >> like there won't be any action items to move forward for on the school on the 13th. >> On the 13th. Correct. Y >> I mean, you're still welcome. can still come but just I don't know how time is you don't necessarily want to come to vote if you don't come out. >> Okay. All right. So we are looking at um motion to motion. We ask to do a roll call on that one. We'll do a roll call. >> Yes. Yes. Land. Yes. >> And M. >> Yes.
