Welcome. I'd like to call this Monday, April 13th, Board of Education meeting to order. Please rise and say the Pledge of Allegiance with me. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. First order of business is to approve the agenda, if I can get a motion. I so move with along with the addendum. Second. All those in favor say I. I. Agenda is approved. Uh moving on to scheduled and unscheduled audience, and we have uh one speaker, um Patrica Peters, if I'm saying that right. All right. Patrica It used to be over there. We moved it. You did? Yeah. All right, you can sit there. I'm not sure that See how my

mic still works. Okay. I don't think they're very uh Can you hear me okay? >> Yep, we can hear you. Uh we have a time limit of 5 minutes when you speak. This is fine. Perfect. Thank you. Good evening, everyone. Uh my name's Patrica Peters. I have kids in the district, and I also have an advanced degree in public policy. So, I appreciate the opportunity to speak this evening, and I would like to address section five of the proposed social media policy. I appreciate the stated goal of this policy, which is to ensure appropriate use of social media, and to protect students, colleagues, and the public trust. Those are important and reasonable objectives. However, Section 5 goes well beyond that goal and creates standards that are overly broad, they're vague, and they're potentially unconstitutional. For

example, the policy prohibits content that could, quote, "damage the district's reputation," end quote, or, quote, "undermine an employee's fitness to serve," end quote. Those phrases are subjective and undefined. They could easily be applied to speech that is simply critical of the district or expresses a personal opinion on matters of public concern. That type of speech is protected under the First Amendment. The same issue applies to the prohibition on profanity. What does that mean in practice? Is this about preventing harassment and abusive language, or is it about policing tone in employees' personal off-duty expression? Without a clear definition here, this opens the door to inconsistent and potentially unfair enforcement. If the goal is to protect students, sorry about the mic, maintain professionalism, and prevent real workplace disruption, then the policy should be narrowly tailored to those

outcomes to focus on concrete harms like breaches of confidentiality, harassment, or interference with job duties. As written, this section risks creating a profound effect where employees feel they cannot speak freely at all, even as private citizens. I urge the board to revise Section 5 so that it clearly aligns with the stated goals while respecting employees' constitutional rights. Thank you for your time. Thank you. Is the green light off? Uh moving on to school reports and fanfare. Do we have any? Nope. Nope, good. Uh no conflict of interest waivers. Uh so, Mr. Easton, you're up with uh informational items, superintendent update. All right. Uh just a few things here. Uh board, I've given you a an email update, but I guess just for the public uh uh to know that we had our DOE accreditation review

back on March 10th. Uh we had to have everything in by March, I think it was 24th or 20 or I'm sorry, February 24th or 25th. And then they uh reviewed it, and then on March 10th, we had our exit review with the DOE staff. Uh the the lead uh reviewer said it was one of the best uh that she has ever encountered, but we did have two findings, and it had to do with our two evaluation policies, our administrative evaluation and our teacher evaluation policies. So, we have the changes made, you'll see those a little bit later. But, just so everybody knows, uh just a few of the things they look at, they make sure that we have uh all our students have birth certificates immunizations or an exemption from immunizations, our staff have

background checks, uh all our staff have to have suicide awareness training, uh that we have a disaster plan, that we have the national motto displayed in all of our buildings, um uh evacuation drills, and that we have certain policies in place. And again, it's like either a bullying policy or evaluation policies and things like that. And then, probably the bigger thing that I think that they ought to be looking for is our school improvement plan, which you guys uh approved in March there. School improvement plan that ties into our strategic plan, and then our demonstration through documentation that we are teaching to the state standards. So, with that again, we had a glowing review if if you will, with the exception of the two policies that will have first reading on tonight and then final

reading in May, and then we'll submit those and then we will have our formal DOE accreditation. So, yeah. Next thing, just a reminder, we have a safety committee meeting at district safety committee meeting on Wednesday at 9:00 here in the board room. So, for those board members that like to attend that. CT house, I am happy to announce, almost happy, happy to announce we have our final closing hopefully next week sometime. We don't know what that date is, but it'll be nice to finally be done with that house and have it sold. We have it sold to a district staff person, so that was nice and again, she'll close next week. And another good note, Mrs. Anderson said this morning that we have 148 kindergarten students registered for next year, which is probably exceeds last

year's numbers at this time by probably 20 or 30, so we hope to have a you know, kindergarten class around 160 would be probably ideal. So, given the the number of teachers we have and the space in each of the classrooms, so. That's all I have. Thank you. Nope, I'm sorry. I have one more thing. I just want to point out the picture back there. That came from Claire Donovan. He donated that to the district and it's a really good discussion starter about a twister coming over Lookout Mountain. So, thanks to Claire Donovan for the picture. Yeah, very cool picture. Action items. First one is a resolution to approve health insurance and workers compensation for the 2026 and 2027 school year if I can get a motion. I'll make a motion to approve it. Second.

Any discussion? All those in favor, say aye. Aye. Aye. All those opposed, same sign. Uh next uh with the Associated School Boards Board of Directors for the Western Region, we need to decide who we are putting our vote towards. Um so if I can get a motion first of all. I move we vote for Justin Jedding from the Meade School District. I'll second it. And any discussion? I would just concur. My recommendation would concur with Justin. Okay. All those in favor, please say aye. Aye. Aye. All those opposed, same sign. Justin is who we are putting our our support with. Uh next is approve the easement with the City of Spearfish for Mason Street Dorm Drain Improvement um in the attachments. If I can get a motion. I'll make a motion to approve it. Second.

Any discussion? I have Sarah Caron. She's the Deputy Public Works Director. She is carrying a lot of paper. She will explain each of these in just a little bit better. Okay. And again, this is the first one will be the West Easements and then the second one letter B from the consent agenda will be for the Mountain View uh project. Okay. Good evening. Hello. So I I first want to talk to you about the city's project on Mason Street. We have a drainage project that's scheduled for this year. It might be delayed. We're still working with Black Hills State University on what they want to do. We may be changing the project a little bit to accommodate them. But for now, we're assuming we're going forward this year. And we're going to be improving the

drainage on the street to connect to that new swale that they built. And currently we have a 36-in drainage pipe that runs from King down to Mason Street down the hill. And uh we're not changing that, but we don't have an easement for it. It used to be in street right-of-way. The right-of-way was vacated and we did not retain an easement. And so we're asking for a permanent drainage easement for that 36-in pipe that exists. Also within that easement, we will be constructing a new box to allow for connections and changes to connect to what we're building in the street. So that part of that easement is new. And then, since that's behind your fence, we are asking for a permanent access easement to get from your gate where the pavement is over to where

the box is so that we can do maintenance on the box and not have to um go about getting a temporary easement to come on and do that every time. And then finally, we're asking for a temporary easement, which will go away as soon as the project is done, to come on to school district property to do the construction work of our project. That will entail removing the fence and putting it back. We talked about moving it to a different location. I think we're going to leave it where it is because the plans are a little bit unknown what's happening. We will Our plan right now is to keep the fence in the same location, but we'll have to put in new posts because they're in concrete in the ground and when you take them

out, it kind of wrecks them. Can't really reuse them. So those are the three easements. The permanent easement for the existing pipe, the access easement to get to our new structure, and the temporary construction easement to come on your property and do our work. Sarah, what last I talked to Adam about the fence, we were going to move it 5 ft south. Is that not the plan anymore? Well, we we could do that, but the actually we talked with Nick a little bit about the future plans for the school and we can still change it. We're in a little bit of a delay now and I can talk to you about that. If if you want to, we don't have to decide that right now. I think Nick and I and you and if Adam

needs to be involved, whoever, but yeah, I should probably revisit that. If you take the fence out anyway to have more room in the boulevard to mow and stuff is beneficial. So that's that and to have the telephone poles on the street side of the fence is beneficial. >> We we can sure do that and that that's a very minor change. The problem is the fence in relation to the poles, um how do we want to handle that or kids going to be So let's just plan to have another conversation. >> Right. Yeah. Okay. Any other questions? For the the box that you're putting in with the access agreement that we'll we'll make here, do we need to just include that and fence it out of the playground so city staff doesn't have to breach

that? That's not necessary. We don't need to get in there very often and I I mean that would be a change in what we were planning, but that would need >> and maybe that's a a question for for the principal or or Kirk if we need to make that not reachable during school hours so staff doesn't have to come out of the playground and it's just accessible there. I guess I don't know totally from the drawings either where that's going to sit. Yeah. And again, they're going to need the easement regardless where the fence is at. So Sure. But that can be a conversation that we have. Sounds good. Thank you. >> For sure. I think we're good. Thank you. Okay. Sarah, just stay there. Just stay here? Yeah, your next one is about the

Once the the board approve approves these then we have the uh Oh, I can't think of it. The shared cost agreement. >> Yeah, the cost share. Do you want to act on the >> Yeah, we'll we'll do this real quick and then we'll move to that one. So, um all those in favor? Aye. >> Aye. All those opposed, same sign. Uh then we'll move to action item D, which is approve the cost sharing agreement with the city of Spearfish for Mountain View Elementary Alley project and temporary construction easement. If I can get a motion. I'll move to approve. Second it. Any discussion? You're up. Yes, thank you. All these papers, I brought plans just in case somebody asked me a question I couldn't answer. But the the cost sharing agreement has to do with uh

mutually beneficial project. This one involves the school district a lot more. The alley at Mountain View Elementary where the buses come and go is problematic and we have an old water main in there that needs to be replaced. So, and you have a lot of um construction that would improve your situation. You have some services, a water service and a sewer service, which have um been giving you problems. And the slope is very steep where people walk. And so, we we con- consulted with DGR Engineering to design a project that would both replace our water main, finish the surfacing with some curbing on the downhill side, and then fix your issues there. So, your part of the project is um a lot more detailed than ours. You're taking out more surface, lowering where it's really

steep right up against the school, putting in different stairs because when you do that then you've got more stairs that you need to get up. And so the the walking slope right close to the school will be flattened out quite a bit. The alley part will be steepened cuz we're starting and ending pretty much at the same slope. So the the alley slope will be about 5%, which is kind of steep. But that trade-off for that is that it's flatter where people walk. And so we're asking for um we're we're paying for it up front. And that the school district would pay us back after the project is done um for your pro rata share. So the engineer broke it out for you and you've got that in the cost-sharing agreement. Those are estimated numbers,

some of them might change a little bit. We don't expect a big change, but you know, during construction sometimes you find things that are different than what you anticipated. So the actual quantities end up being a little different. But the basic premise is that we're tracking the unit all of the units for all of the construction and we know whether it's on the school side of the line or on the city side of the line. And then when we're done with construction, we'll figure out what that percentage is. It's estimated now at 68. 79% school district and 31.2% city, but that may change with construction. When when all is said and done, how much we spend on design, engineering, and construction will be split at the at the proportions that we end up with. So

that's what the cost-sharing agreement says. And um in addition to that, we're asking for a temporary easement to come onto your property to do the work. And then, we're actually moving that water main a little bit. It's already on the school district property. We're moving a little bit more onto the property, and we're going to ask for a permanent easement cuz right now, it's just on your property. And, we don't have that in the packet tonight. Uh when we're done, we get that built, we'll ask for a permanent easement for that. So, tonight, for Mountain View Elementary, we're asking for your approval of the cost-sharing agreement and the construction temporary easement. And again, the temporary easement expires when the project is done. And the the city will be awarding the contract on next Monday if

if you approve it. So, we probably won't go forward with the project if if you don't want to partner with it at this time, anyway. So, I'd first like to thank Sarah and the and all your staff for your work that you put in on this with DGR and and so on and and all that. So, thank you very much from You're welcome. >> for your uh participation or collaboration on it. The other thing I'll just say is when I was Sarah was talking about flattening out next to the building, we're actually putting a sidewalk there. So, when the kindergarteners come out of the building, they can line up on the sidewalk rather than a maybe a slippery slope. Also, all the water uh the drainage off the building on the west side will go

underneath the sidewalk and down a drain pan of some kind over to the gutter on the west side. Uh and then, we're catching all the water coming off the south side or the north side of the building, as well, rather than having that run across the playground and take wood chips and everything else. Uh we're capturing that and getting that water underneath the sidewalk and over there, as well. Uh we'll move the fence a little bit on the west side and then where there's turf or natural turf right now, we're going to put another section of of artificial turf there just cuz it's so hard to grow grass and it's nice to have that area for those kiddos to to be able to play and stuff. So, that's all part of this. Any questions? I

think it's good improvements. We need it. Yeah, I think it's needed. We're going to lose a bus in that sinkhole someday. So, And so, there will be new new connections to both mains, the the water main and the sewer main. There'll be new connections and and so on. So, hopefully we don't have any leaking in the in the future. So, Thank you. All right. You're welcome, Sarah. So, all those in favor, please say aye. Aye. All those opposed, same sign. Mr. Harris, thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thanks, Sarah. So, we'll try to get those to you tomorrow. Sarah, the signed agreements. Yep. Okay. Uh, moving on to the consent agenda. Um, also on the addendum if I can get a motion. Now, before you do, I'd like to pull one. I got to find

it. I would like to pull uh Briana Woman Did you make that in your motion? Okay. You want to go down that way? Okay. I move uh that we do the whole consent agenda and I would like to pull out Briana um Woman Mondy headed girls soccer coach at this time to so that we can discuss that during our executive session. Okay. Uh Is there a second? Uh, I'll second for discussion. Thank you. Any discussion? All those in favor, please say aye. Aye. Aye. All those opposed, same sign. Moving on to discussion and information updates. The first one is a recommendation for first reading for revisions adoption to the following policies. First one is supervision evaluation of the teaching staff policy 4505. The second one would be Do you want to go through these one

by one? Sure, I'll just cover them really quick. Yeah. Okay. Next one is supervision evaluation of the administrative staff policy 4505.1. The social media use policy 4027, which is a new policy. And then the school district social media account request form. 4027 FM new form, so. So, 4505 supervision evaluation of teaching staff. Again, this came about with through our review with our DOE accreditation. Um we just want to be really clear as far as what what the timeline is as far as teacher evaluation. So, just rewrote this in their evaluator shall evaluate the performance of each certified teacher in years 1 through 3 at least twice per year unless the date of their hire precludes a second observation. I will tell you straight law only requires one time per year. We do it twice again

unless if we hire somebody in the second semester if you will or after Christmas and we can only get one in then we just get the one. But then then each certified teacher in their fourth contract year or beyond not less than every other year. So, we I struck that language. Then I also struck the informal observations, evaluations, and walk-throughs will be completed as determined by the evaluator and as time allows. Well, that was already in number three. So, I struck it from number two there. And then three walk-throughs with documented feedback will be equivalent to a formal evaluation. You can't do this per state law. So, this was struck from that. And then again, because I've I had to repeat it. I struck through number three there again. Continuing contract teachers will be formally

observed. That's already in the new new language in in two. And then number five, state law says that we have to have we have to explicitly say that a plan of assistance will be implemented for any teacher in his or her fourth year or more of teaching whose performance does not meet the district's performance standards. That's a something that's in statute. So. That's it for that one. Uh supervision evaluation administrative staff We're just striking through in and or. So, it says an evaluation shall be completed by the superintendent or his designee for each administrator in or beyond his or fourth year. Well, it can't be in the in. It can't be in their fourth year. So. It needs to say just beyond his or her fourth year of employment at least once every other year.

So, that's the change on that. Uh social media use policy. Uh Patricia said a little bit about this tonight. Uh I will take her concerns and I will talk to our school attorney about this tomorrow or the next day. Uh it's already been through his eyes or been in front of him once, but I will address uh her specific concerns tomorrow uh or Wednesday when I have a chance. Uh just give me 1 second here to find the right place. So, what I Again, we had him specifically I had him specifically look at the Supreme Court in the Pickering case, and so that's what I will ask him. That's kind of a litmus test for this. So, I'll ask him to uh consider her concerns here on the prohibitive uses that she specifically the ones

that she pointed out in comparison with the Pickering and see what his opinion is. Okay. And that's all happened. Okay. Well, I will I would say I I thank Nathan because I'm not a Facebook person uh for helping me on uh the uh setting up, if you will, the uh ownership and administrative control in the in our Meta Business Manager account. Really, that's the only change since the last time we had a first reading. Uh but it was enough of a change that I felt we needed to have another first reading. So, uh once this uh account is approved, we'll work with each of the Facebook accounts, whether it be Spruce Wrestling, Football, um Mr. Williams' high school account, or whatever, we'll work to roll those under the Meta Business account. So. Okay. All right.

Thank you. Yep. Uh next is first reading for changes updates of the handbooks for the 2026-27 school year. And not sure who wants to I guess next going first. Yep. Okay. Do we have 5-minute Do we have a minute on it? Yes. Start the timer. Technically, it's 3 to 5. We're going to air with 3. That camera is not flattering from this angle, either. What are you laughing about, Mr. Easton? Uh just to review a few of these, and you have them. You'll note that all the the new language added there there was no strike through language, but I will tell you that we uh uh I do have conflicting language that I I do wish to point out to you. But starting on the middle uh the Mountain View in West student and parent

handbooks, the red language you'll notice under personal devices, believe it or not this continues to be a pervasive uh issue. We certainly respect and recognize parents have the right to choose to send their children with a device, but we now have teachers in kindergarten, first, and second grade managing those devices at school. And so, much like the high school, the goal is to make sure that those devices are non-disruptive uh to the learning environment. Specifically to these changes, you will see some notation um Specifically, you'll see some proprietary language in there. GPS-enabled devices such as AngelSense or AirTags. AngelSense is a device becoming more common. Uh you'll sometimes find children where there might be in a low-net risk or a parent has concerns, um potentially students with disability, different issues in which parents need to

make sure they can locate and monitor their children. The district doesn't provide these, but we need to manage that in the in the school setting. What we wanted to outline in there, uh you'll see specifically such devices when used without teacher consent to record or broadcast or to listen in a classroom is a violation of FERPA. Students cannot use an intercom device in the classroom and broadcast teacher instruction or other children's discussion outside the school without express consent of the teacher, and there's very few examples in which that would be given. So, we wanted to include that in there as a potential violation of FERPA. Again, we won't prohibit GPNS-enabled devices. We recognize parents equip their kids with these, but how they use them in the school during the school day has to not violate

another student's rights. Um down below I want to point out one piece of language, which oddly enough this existed last year, uh but when we reviewed it with advisory, you'll see up above under the electronic devices uh Some bullet once says devices should be off or set to silent during the day, but down below underneath the proprietary language of smart watch Angel Sense or other electronic device, it says must be turned off. We need to reconcile those two statements to say must be off or non-disruptive set to silent. Um some of them are actually affixed to children's clothing. The previous draft we had written for you said that they should be off in a secure location. Obviously, if we have a device in a locker and it's stolen, that now becomes school district challenge also.

So, we do have children where devices are affixed to their clothes or to their belt and they can't be removed. That's part of the monitoring. So, we allow them to have it. We need to change that last line to say must be turned off or silent and non-disruptive. Question on that? I'll reconcile that before your second reading. Um and other than that, there are no changes to the language in regards to the student and parent handbook. Under the signature page, you will notice a few clauses. The very first one we added there, yes, I have reviewed the directory information. You'll see You'll note that there is not a no. This is a redundant effort to make sure that parents annually, the superintendent and the building principal send out reminders to families to update directory information

and campus. This is to make sure that a parent acknowledges that the address being given to the district is accurate. The physical address which would assure that we do not need an open enrollment or consideration under special services. This is another It's a redundant effort that the parent acknowledges, yes, I've updated it. Yes, it's accurate. We do run into issues sometimes where we believe we have inaccurate physical addresses for whatever reason. So, this is another effort in which the parent expressly states, yes, I've updated directory information so that building administrators or the superintendent who has to make a decision on an open enrollment has that acknowledgement. You'll also see a sign-off and acknowledgement for social media. Uh very similar to the media release in the past. We think there's a reasonable expectation in the school

setting for parents. I don't believe postings to social media would be something considered directory information like is part of FERPA. So, you will see that there's a specific disclaimer in there. Now that the district has adopted social media for updates, events, awards, activities, that a student's name, image, or likeness could be posted as part of that. A parent can choose to opt their child out of social media, and that burden would then fall to classroom teachers the same way we do now with the no media list. Um so, we wanted to include that, especially with younger children. The next clause simply acknowledges that uh parents often will say, "You know, I don't want my kids' photo published." And then well well, that's not what I meant. So, making sure they understand that this is in

alignment with the district's FERPA policy. And then other than that, you will just see um in the final final page, there's a clause there where you'll see we've replaced school messenger with Thrillshare, which is the proprietary name of the new district uh website and our mass uh e-communication, whether that be text, email, or phone announcement, as well as social media. We added those to the uh parent notification. Questions for me on handbook edits, changes, proposals? Thank you. Overtime. It was on the upper end of three, lower end of five. Thank you. I bet mine's not that long. No one's ever is, Mr. Soha. All right, we just basically the language in ours we updated to be more consistent with our practice and match language in other schools to be consistent with the other schools. Uh

dress code just updated as far as matching uh some of the schools. We actually stole some of the language from the middle school, so our students are prepared for that next step. Um and then same change with the emergency evacuation crisis procedures about it's no longer school messenger, so we updated that. Um and then the language under student placement just added in that specific teacher request will not be honored uh just to match the current practice that we're currently have. And that we'll take environmental forms but not specific teacher names. That is the updates for Creekside. Do you have any questions? That's a classic Creekside update. Yeah. Ooh, that was tough. You're all ready to do it, please. I always want to go after Nick. It's easier. Um ours is basically language clean up this

year. Basically wording some things so they they fit what we need. But uh smart what smart watch wearers must refrain instead of just saying are permitted. Fairly simple. Pajamas seem to come up every year because we like to wear pajamas in school. Um so just basically no >> handbook? What's that? Is this a staff handbook? Yeah. I didn't say that. I didn't go there at all. So um yeah, you know, it says no, these things are not allowed. And so when we had it in there, no pajamas, well, double negative, that probably doesn't work very well. Parent-teacher conferences, we had one extra period. So well, we had to take that out of there. That was caught by the eighth grade English teachers. And then nuisance items, we thought that matches, lighters, and fireworks are no

longer nuisance items. I actually think they're illegal in school. So the others are just nuisance items that are pretty minor. Those are major ones. Uh canine inspections, we just took out that we have a uh we had a contract with a a company and just simplified it a little bit. Crisis situations, we updated so that it's hold, secure, lockdown, evacuate, and shelter in place in all the schools now. Spartan Learning Labs stays open until 4:00 p.m. instead of just p.m. Very simple. And then excused absences, a lot of times kids were a little confused about when does that start which begins on the day of the students return to school. Sometimes that got a little gray area there that was on us and then also the school messenger part that's changed. Um discipline matrix we

changed a number of different things and maybe kind of stepped up the level a little bit. Took out a number of lunch detentions, put it after school detention and then parent and guardian contact which we already do but we didn't really put it in there. So a lot more parent and guardian contact or you can see cell phone we put removal to the device. Before we were just giving warnings. Uh we're going and adding we're taking the device away. And then we moved skipping class down to a major behavior. Pretty rare rare that we have many kids ever skip class in the middle school. But we decided to slide it down in there and it kind of fits in the other area. Um that's basically it. Any questions for me? Thank you. Thank you. Thank

you. That would have been funny. That's how the teachers That's how the teachers feel. Yeah, that's exactly. All right, we don't have a lot of updates for the high school either just a few things but a couple two two bigger things. So the first thing on here is capstone senior requirement which is a new state requirement that we're adding. This doesn't add credits that the students need to have to graduate. We just replaced one of the um CTE credits that they're already currently required to have. So um that will involve a new class taught by Mr. Keeler and it will involve either one of one of four or five options um like a career internship, a product capstone, a research experiment project, or a service learning project, or even potentially if we can get this

set up um an apprenticeship. So those things would be students can choose one of those five things to do within their capstone project. And then we also we put some wording in our handbook for that as well as also updated our Spearfish High School diploma requirements with that requirement. Just the next thing is just a quick we simplified some some terminology here. We use Infinite Campus for our grading uh report cards basically. So we want parents to know they can request a physical copy of a report card um but students and parents almost all use Infinite Campus um and they can call us if they like a paper copy. Um open and closed campus we just changed up some wording in there um really just for how mostly for freshmen how can they be excused

if they need to be excused during lunch uh specifically. So that's what most of that wording right there uh affects. And then the last big thing we have is is the Spearfish High School RISE handbook which we will place within our actual student handbook. And uh RISE stands for Reflect, Improve, Succeed, Excel. This is the alternative school. So this is their handbook. We have uh the teachers that will be teaching there next year as well as administration and counselors have spent a good amount of time creating this. And so this is our current handbook that will be implemented next school year for our RISE program at the high school. Any questions for me? Does that capstone replace presentations then? Yes. Yeah the research yeah English four research is going away. It will actually just be

a full year of English and then there's this uh capstone project is another thing that seniors will have to do. Perfect. You said that was state requirement? A state requirement, yep. If I had caught this prior to now I would have emailed you instead of telling you in the board meeting but there's a typo. Okay. Uh under the open and closed campus Okay. on the third line it says a parent must get approval via phone or email and I think that's supposed to be give. Yes. Correct. Thank you. Good thing you have a second reading. We'll get that updated. Thank you. All right, any other questions? Thank you. Thank you. The only other thing I would mention, you'll notice that the list is absent of the activity, the middle school and high school activity handbooks.

Uh that is going to have a bit more of a a longer review process. So, I've given uh Dalton and his committee, probably Mr. Jacobs and the the other principals in there and and other staff. I've given them till June for a first reading. So, uh they're just going to take some time to make sure that they get it as as accurate or close to what we want it to reflect as possible. So, looking for a first reading in June, final approval in July, and then that gives him time or and the middle school time to get that uh ready for their student athletes and for the late summer, early fall. Okay. Okay. Uh moving on to minutes, if I can get a motion to approve those. Make a motion to approve them. Second it.

All those in favor, say aye. Aye. Uh moving on to financial reports and bills, if I can get a motion to approve. I so move. Second. Here. Any discussion? All those in favor? Aye. And if I can get a motion for executive session. I make motion for executive session with for South Dakota Codified Law 1-25-2-4. Uh preparing for contract negotiations or negotiating with employees or employee representative. And also for B for South Dakota Codified Law 1-25-2-1 discussing the qualifications, competence, performance, character, or fitness of any public officer, employee, or prospective public officer or employee. The term employee does not include any independent contractor. Second. All those in favor say aye. Aye. We're going into executive session. We will come out with an action item if anyone does want to stick around.
