And we're going to start out [screaming and crying] [screaming] We are [screaming] They all are. >> [screaming and crying] >> Um, I'm just excited because there's so many things happen this time of year. And I'd like to um shout out to all the amazing choir and band students that excelled at the South Dakota High School Activities Association in Phillips for the region music contest. They all did really really well. We've also had some amazing things happening in wrestling. Um I know one little guy I'm super excited is state and just everybody did well. So lots of big shoutouts and thank yous for all everybody who supported our staff and students. Moving on. Um, we've got the agenda here in front of us. Is there a motion to approve the consent agenda? To approve the agenda?

Sorry. >> Yes. >> By second by all in favor? Um, right now we'll turn some time over to present her presentation today. >> And I am going to turn my time over to um DSP TCA and the new one professional contract. >> Okay. [clears throat] >> All right. So, um, last, uh, was it Monday, we went over to, uh, Pier for the legislative session. Um, got to meet with our representative, our senator. Um, Representative Emory, as always, is pretty darn good, uh, friend of T county and what we got going on with education. So, had some real good talks with him. Um, we got over there about 8 in the morning. um went over uh to the capital, got a little bit of a tour, and then uh headed to the ed committee where we

got to see the cell phone bill going through. Um that one died in committee. It was a very close vote. Um but the main thing that they wanted to say and and basically pass on to people is the reason is they like what our school boards are doing in South Dakota. They wanted the power to be in the school boards instead of coming from the state. Um about 95% of uh school districts have some sort of cell phone policies. Um and I think ours is right on par with everybody else's new one that we put through this year. I know the middle school we started using the cell phone lockers uh almost about a month now and uh I think it's working pretty well. We still got kids trying to sneak here and there, but

um for the most part they they've learned to either keep them away or put them in the locker if they can't trust themselves. So that worked out pretty good. Um and their reasoning really made sense um once they got into that debate we had committee. Um afterwards we went out to the floor uh to meet with um our representatives and our senator. Um Representative Emry was in a meeting at that time. So we ended up catching with him catch up with him at lunch. And then uh Senator Grove um was also elsewhere until lunch. So, I ended up just wandering around for a while and until we were able to uh meet with them at lunch and um Senator Grove is the one who was uh sponsoring that Senate Bill 190 um which was uh

build as a parents rights um bill which had a lot of elements of that to be sure. Um, one thing though that uh, SDA uh, was kind of opposed to in that was that it opened up a lot of our mandatory reporting to have to go uh, through the parents. And as we all know, sometimes the parents are those that need to be reported. And so the bill, while it had a lot of really good sentiments in it, um, wasn't probably what we would, you know, want to see in our schools. And so, um, we ended up, uh, you know, talking to her. Had a good conversation. It had gone through some amendments and gotten better, um, over time, especially with protections for teachers and stuff. Um, but it ended up dying on the House

floor. Um, later on, we stuck around through that vote. So, we stayed at the sessions and hung out till that bill got through. Then, we came home for practices and stuff. But, it was a real good opportunity. Uh, I I always love going up to beer. I don't know. Is there anything else you'd like to share? >> Um, one other thing we talked a little bit about when we were in the different sessions, they were talking about the budget because I know a lot of people were always talking about the budget that governor was that he said 0% then he came back to 1%. They're really trying to fight to get about 1.4 to 1.5% is what they're shooting for when they get the budget set hopefully next week or whenever they're done with the

session after this week. So that's what they're really shooting for to get more to education than that. So that was a good sign from them that they're working on trying to get us more than what the governor had proposed for us for the state. So >> I think even though um we're on the uh free lunch program already, I think one of the ones and I was telling them that the um bill went through for the free and reduced lunch. Now the governor just needs to sign it and um that takes away a lot of like when we talked to Dr. graves about it and he said that a lot of the parents weren't like filling out the paperwork. So that's where their problem was lying is that they wouldn't fill it out get it

back to the school and um I think this bill just kind of takes that away from where they just you know are going to give lunches already a free um lunch program already in the schools. So, I did see that like maybe a couple hours ago. I seen it that it is going to the governor's office and then I did see that the bill for tribal law enforcement officers um is going to the governor's desk as well. And I think it's a huge win for Indian country for our tribal officers here on the reservation and any other resation. So, I think [clears throat] be a good thing as well. Yes, technically. Anyway, certainly we got kids seen from time to time, but lunch is when they're allowed >> before >> and after school. >> Before

and after school and lunch for our calls. >> Yeah. And that was the big difference really with uh the cell phone bill that was going through the ed committee um was it would have taken away that lunch uh time with phones. It would have been below one. >> And uh we got to talk um with uh Secretary Graves too and um he said that there wasn't really going to be a way for us to enforce it either at the state level um that bill. And so yet another reason why the board and the local district control and stuff like that It made more sense if he ended up going in opposition to that bill. to share. >> Thanks for allowing us. >> Thanks, guys. >> I should go home and cook. >> They might just

all get starlight maybe. [laughter] >> But thank you. I do. >> So, I gave you um the EDC camp survey summaries. Um and what I did was I took all three ed camps, the final exit ticket that I give to staff um and created a summary um to be able to show you how well they've been received. I joke around that's one of my favorite days, not two favorite days. And you guys always provide really good feedback and when we were leaving that day Friday a couple people came up like please tell us again next year. So I think we're on the right track. You can show here how things are aligning. People are able to go back take strategies right into the classroom the next day. Job embedded professional development. You also have your

upcoming date. I forgot to add the time for the all district band performance and it's at 6:30 >> at the high school. >> I gave you the next upcoming board reports. Is there anybody else you want to report to before school year ends? Security, you've had student service. Um principles did their beginning of the year one. They'll do their end of the year one with their end of the year data. retention school year so far. >> Yeah, I got [clears throat] >> Can we see the data like >> at the end when the June one? >> Okay. >> With the office of curricular instruction and assessment that will be that important. [clears throat] And then your discussion I gave you, we received this um this is actually like it's another it's a local company when

it comes to student pictures. So I just wanted to share that with you as you begin your discussion on >> Well, let's just move right into that. That was supposed to be our board discussion 6.1 about photography and student photos. Would you like to spearhead ahead on? >> Yeah. So, I have to have a student on ahead of it. Um, I think this is a good time. something like this is good to know [clears throat] students pictures and then the cost is just to pay back the cost of whatever it cost. I just want parents to have an option. But I don't know. That's why you have the information. >> So people listening might not understand why you're bringing this up. There were some concerns and rumors being spread that people had access to our

students photos. Um, and Life Touch reached out to us. They sent us um, emails and we got all kinds of data and information. Those were not true. There were rumors that were being circulated around. But at the same time, there were concerned parents because they didn't want their children's photos to be, you know, available to just anybody to have access to. So we found out that that was not manufactured. Somehow we tied it into all the details, but um anyway, Amanda had a good idea. She would like to get a jump on that and start thinking about talking about other options. We have some really good that we use that over and off the city. >> Um there are probably local people and I don't know who everybody is. Does anybody They do sports photos,

but I'm not sure they do school photos. >> But I mean, I think now is the time to just research between now and July >> and then come up with some like you said have some options ready >> or even if somebody localach out. I might be part of the class how to do photography. actually for the most part, you know, having options for maybe just something less expensive, but to cover the cost of They were open to it. But if someone was deciding [clears throat] not or nothing, but just looking into Well, photography is expensive and you usually get what you pay for, but at the same time, it's nice you have a budget because sometimes you just want to be able to share those memories and have them with your family members. So,

I'm open to whatever community. Is there any other comments ready to move on? [clears throat] Okay, so we're up to 7.1 the consent agenda. The consent agenda can be approved as one motion board member wishes to or if anybody has they want to separate out now discussion pull those at this time. Okay. So, anybody want to approve agenda? >> Yes. >> Moving on to 7.2. Is there anything here to discuss the heat overnight? >> [laughter] >> Maybe as we get closer. So we have to you guys approve these first before we >> maybe >> and then we also have the Todd County Middle School the council student council has request to take an overnight trip as well. um at this time unless something else. >> You just give me time. >> Do you have Okay.

>> Yeah. >> Okay. >> This is on the Friday. >> Okay. You just remind >> I'll remind you. >> Okay. So, is there a motion to go into executive session with South Dakota law 125 21 for personnel? Amen. >> Mark all >> the time is I'm sorry 5:49. in the US.
