[Music] Hello and welcome to Around the Clock as we visit the Ashlin Public Safety Night. I'm your host Jolanda Greavves. We are right now here with Chief Keith Roby. Uh Chief Roby, what's going on tonight? >> Oh, there's a lot of things going on tonight. We got some K9 demonstrations with the police department. Uh we got the fire department here set up doing some auto extrication with the Jaws. And then we got a lot of different departments all around today. Uh many police, sheriffs, um we got a drone, got a bunch of different fire apparatus here. We got a pumper. We got our new tower here today up on display. So lots to see. >> So new tower. It's It's not even a year old, right? >> It's not. Nope. Just under a year old

now. >> So we're looking at it partly up. It's you think about a quarter of the way. >> About a quarter of the way. Yeah. >> Goes to how high? >> 100t. So >> 100 ft. So, >> it can go a lot higher. >> Got once in a while, guys. Great to have you guys with us here. [Music] We know this is about public safety, but it's also bringing about it's about bringing out the community. So, we have some community members here. Tell us your names, please. >> Uh my name is Molly Foley, >> Vinnie Foley, >> and this is Mason. >> Hi, Mason. >> So, a night out like this, why are you guys here? And what made you want to come? Um, we just met some friends down here to come check it

out and um, obviously it's really fun for the kids and um, you know, just see all the great things that our town does and um, yeah, it's an awesome event. >> No, I'll say the exact same thing and just a fun night out with the family. >> Okay, now I do have to say this. Molly, people may know her as Molly Bennett because her mom Claudia used to be in the school as is now on the select board. So you've grown up in this town. What are the changes that you've seen and what do you think about them? >> Um, you know, obviously there's been a ton of growth. I think the corner spot is one of my favorite things about um the town even before we had Mason. We had gone to a couple

events there and um you know now we've done a couple of the events that the mom's group holds and Thursday we're going to some bubble action down there. So that's one of my favorite um things about how the town has grown. But yeah, it's still good old Ashland. Bleed and blue. >> Ready. Action. >> We are now here with Alice. Alice, do you live here in Ashland? >> Yes. >> How long have you lived here? >> Uh, two three years. >> Three years. What is your favorite thing about Ashland? >> Um, there's no bad guys. >> There's no bad guys. We have a very safe community. We are now speaking with our police chief, Cara Rossi. Uh, Chief Rossi, thanks for taking a few minutes. >> Thank you. Uh, wonderful night. How excited are you?

>> So excited for the turnout. The community did not let us down because this is obviously the first. Yeah. >> So, we weren't sure how it was going to go. >> U, but as this community always does, they came out in droves. I'm I'm really happy. >> What's your favorite thing about a night like this, though? You have monkey ones other than the community. >> I love to see the officers interacting with all the members of the public when it's not an emergency when it's not someone's worst day of their life. It's it's for a happy occasion and to see the smile on their faces. They all brought their families out. So, it's good for me to to have them be having fun and then their families get to see them, you know, in their

role in their job. So, for me, that's that's what I like the best. still walking around at the Ashlin public safety night and we have found a therapy dog and some people that were chatting with them. Can you tell us your names? Um, hi, I'm Carolyn. >> Hi, my name is Catherine. >> Catherine. >> Officer Dave Gold. >> So, what brought you and your mom out tonight? >> Um, >> should mom answer first? >> Well, we wanted to see the activity here and um the face painting and the the snacks and see what was going on. And um she loves dogs, so we gravitated over to Frank Frankie. Yeah. So um Catherine is, as you can see, a big fan of K9 police dogs. >> So So we are back. We are now speaking with

Manny Tuscano, who is sort of the man behind this this whole event, right? >> Uh not necessarily. It takes a village to be able to kind of complete events like this. So, everything goes through, you know, police, fire, DPW, all local businesses, different law enforcement agencies, and and absolutely the community coming out and enjoying this day. So, this is kind of why we wanted to put this together is to get everybody to come together, see what we have in store for them, and hopefully everybody that came today got to enjoy this this awesome day. >> So, you were a little nervous that there'd be no turnout. I was I was nervous because like you know I'm new here. I'm not sure how you know events go and stuff like that. So putting something together like

this you just want to make sure that you're kind of uh grasping at everybody's attention span per se and uh you know things for kids, things for adults, you know, uh different things like the canine demos, different types of food vendors and things of that nature. So, you're kind of trying to hit every corner that you can and trying to draw as much attention as you can and as much interest as you can, too, to be able to uh make these events successful. So, I was a little nervous, but you know what? Ashlin didn't disappoint. You know, everybody in the community came out. They came out in strong numbers today and you know, hopefully everybody enjoyed today. >> We are going to wrap up our night here talking to different people with Michael Herbert, Ashlin

Town's manager. Michael, thanks for taking a few minutes. What do you think about tonight? >> Oh, wow. What a what a great community event, Yolanda. Um, you know, I don't know if everybody knows this, but this was all initiated and put together by, you know, our members of our police department, working with our fire department, DPW, all the vendors. They did this all on their own. So, I'm immensely proud of the community, but I'm also immensely proud of them as well. We've had the opportunity to speak with both chiefs and with Manny Tuscana who helped organize this. Um, what did you see tonight that really makes you proud? Not not just our public safety, but the community. >> I think that's the key word right there, the community. Um, and just seeing everybody come together,

work together to um, you know, bring a great event to Ashland families. And I mean, really, I mean, this is what it's all about. This is this is the stuff that keeps me in this role is um just coming here and seeing everybody work together, work together for a common goal and people just having a good time. >> Great. Well, Michael, thank you for taking a few minutes, but also thank you as town manager to support the public safety, our fire and police enable to do this because we all know that as a town manager, you work with them and support them. So, thank you for that. >> Well, Yolanda, I appreciate that. And then also thank you to you and the rest of the select board for doing the same. Likewise. >> Okay. Thanks

for chatting with us. >> Thank you. >> That's going to wrap up our coverage here at the Ashlin first annual public safety night. Uh in talking with both chiefs and in Manny, we're probably going to see this again next year. So, thanks for watching this episode of Around the Clock.
