uh meeting to order we call the role. >> Miss >> present. >> Mr. D >> present. >> M >> present. >> If you all stand with me for the pledge of allegiance and will you please the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all >> score. Any citizens comments? >> No citizens. >> We do not. >> Okay. >> Um, we'll move on to the approval of the agenda. Do I have a motion to approve the agenda? >> Second. >> Motion by Miss Connley, second by Mr. Barnes. Any discussion? All in favor say I. >> I. Any opposed? Eyes have it. Motion passes. Move to reports. Uh, chairman's report. Uh, hey, just a couple of things. Uh you all
you all get this legislative in the in your mail. >> Yeah. Highly encourage you to read this. A lot of things about new legislation come out some uh and so just encourage you just familiar with it because there's a lot of changes along the way. So be sure to catch that. Uh this is our last meeting of this particular year and it's been great to serve with all of you. Uh this is again we talked about how how really well we work together and I'm just respectful for each of you and your desire one your voice uh I appreciate that each of you have a voice and use that voice and we collectively try to do what's best for our students and our teachers our staff and I think kudos to us as a board
for really working together and working through always necessarily agree on. That's okay. >> That's all I have. >> Okay. Although it's summer, I my favorite question that people ask most of us is, "What do y'all do all summer?" Well, they would just have to shadow all of us because it is so busy with the academics and Rochelle, I think she's starting our own admissions like we're a private school with all these people want to come to Arlington and she's having to spend countless hours. She she's been working it >> and when I come around the corner I know she's like, "Oh, here she comes." >> Um, so all departments, finance, uh, you know, Miss Speakman, as you can tell with our agenda, has been very busy. So busy she hasn't been able to take off
here lately. But, uh, you know, Mr. Reed's one of the principles here tonight and all the principles been very busy. He's been very very busy transitioning and getting things in uh ready for the school year. He's met with all of the departments of the executive staff and gone over everything of that department and what would be applicable. And here I have his picture here because since our last board meeting he was selected and he's just hit the ground sprinting. I think he started that afternoon with Mr. Penelope. He's not much of a low energy guy. >> No, he's not. He He's done a fantastic job and great in communicating with all the departments and working with the other principles. U so then basketball, we've uh hired in the past few weeks Mr. Davis and Mr.
Reed selected basketball coaches. Coach Bernardo, which you all probably know him pretty well. He's a a legend. He was a a Mississippi State >> famous basketball player. >> Okay. >> And then NBA he wasn't that. >> Okay. So, he's uh we're just glad that he's agreed. He will be doing both of the basketball teams at the high school and then Coach Woods will be doing the boys basketball team at the middle school. So, we're excited to have them on board. Then we have Corey Johnson. He has worked with the uh high school program as an assistant and he has a son I believe in middle school and he has a younger one. You saw him there yesterday at the ribbon cutting. He's real excited about coming on board as the head football coach this past
year. He was hired as an interventionist assistant and he works in the middle school and the high school. So that's really good that we have someone there on a regular basis to connect with uh the players that will be on that team and he can encourage others to come out for the football team. And of course we were all there and down there on the right corner it looks like I just wish I would have been there to blow the whistle until you start running. >> Man, that's a group of athletes right there. Boy, >> that's awesome. That's awesome. We were >> It was on It was on a poster at work when they showed up today. I don't know. >> Oh, really? >> It was big. They took the time. >> Cool. I like
that. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Uh Mr. Hill, that's your next assignment. I'm sure he'll make it real good. Jake Gold. We were I feel like we're really blessed to have him to be part of that ribbon cutting. You know, I can still picture little Jake in my middle school. You know, that little face and and just he's so that's what I was talking this morning to Tyler about. Garrett and Jake are just the way they were in middle school. just so approachable, kind, you know, very courteous to everyone around them and recognizing and it just, you know, warms my heart and very proudly to know that we they graduated from us and Jake is willing to come back and serve in this community and I think he will continue to and you know, we wish
him all the best and hope he stays healthy and safe so he can continue to reach all his goals because I'm sure he has many. So, yesterday was a great event. Then we had the summer program, the Camp Explore takes underwater worlds. If you haven't been to that, Thursday is the last day of that. I'm going to go over there tomorrow and work with some first graders on reading and the craft project. So, hopefully all will be well when I leave. Never know. And then uh our high school we had uh the graduation we had 51 plus million in scholarships and accepted to 200 plus postsecary institutions. So kudos because that is the portrait of an ACS graduate right there. Now, on capital project updates, I'm gonna ask Sean to come to the podium because
as I go through them, he's marking off his list and if you have questions that are very specific to it, he's been in the weeds. This is something that you want to talk of department, they're all busy, but this department has been extremely like this is their peak time here and there's only four of you now at district office. Correct. >> That is correct. Yes. So, this is a fourman team we're running right now. Here we go. HS parking lot milling and paving. So, I hope I don't know if you've seen that yet, but I mean it was taken all the way down to the core. That has not been done since the building has been built. >> So, it's way overdue and we had that resurfaced. Any questions on that? >> Looks great. Looks
fantastic. Okay. Then I don't know did you take him out here at district office >> just this got resurfaced over the weekend so made a nice little poof and needed some maintenance along the way so it will last a little longer. And then AHS their roof replacement that's the final phase. >> That is the final phase. Yes. So, we we'll be finished. >> Uh, it gives a 35 year warranty. >> I think we'll all be on Tyler. You might be here. >> So, it'll be Tyler's baby. >> I'll invite you to the roof. >> Yeah. >> Hey, make them grow on the roof, Tyler. If we can make it up there, >> then something that's awesome is Arlington High School varsity court got a sanding and refinishing with the new logo. >> So, we have
the practice gym that we redid and then this just is most rec. >> They'll be done with that this evening. So, we stay off it a few days and we'll be able to get on it. >> Then what I thought I loved it, Sean, this was his idea. He's like, you know, we got that bright new shiny penny that's going to be over there in the corner called the football fieldhouse. We probably need some do some painting on some doors and spoofing it up a little bit around it so it these others it doesn't stick out like the other buildings don't stick out like a sore thumb of their faded door. So it was Sean's idea to go ahead and what got painted on this >> uh outside for the main building all the outside
doors >> For the high school. Yep. And there were 68 of them, doors and frames. So they sanded them, cleaned them up, painted them so we get a little more life out of them. And the top two pictures are the home side and the visitor side field houses. So we replaced all the rotted wood. Painted everything. Painted the doors, the gutters. They all got painted. And right there at the bottom left is the new press box was put in, I would say, a couple years ago. It used to be white, so we painted it to match the other side. Yep. So it looks good. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> You want some air, you work for it. Yeah. >> So that's what we did there. Painted everything. So when the field's done and you
stand upstairs in a new building, you'll look out and see everything fresh, clean, >> looks good. >> And then this was a hallway. I kept walking down, Sean, can we find a little bit more money? Because the hallway going from the main gym to the practice gym all the way to the end which is the golf simulator room. It was really looking >> Yeah. I said, "Can we please get that?" Because the high school had paid to redo the vinyls for all the doors and then it even made the hallway walls look even worse because of the newness of the door. So, we were able to get that painted as well. So, that's showing off that hallway. And then at the bottom, finally, the golf simulator. We have two simulators. I talked to the coaches
the other night. I was walking through and they so happened to be there and Mr. Overby was helping them update because that simulator takes periodical updating, doesn't it? It's a bit of a task. So, Mr. Overby was helping them one night do that. Um, we'll be starting a middle school team. Uh, Coach Frell at the high school has agreed to do that and, uh, Mr. Reed is going to help us work through that because their season's in the spring and they begin February. Well, if they get out of school at 3:45, you know, darkness is just around the corner. So he's going to help us in scheduling them like sixth period PE and we'll be able to work that where they'll be able to participate in golf since the season and the daylight saving time
is such a little different than that >> before we move to the next one. Uh, all the locker rooms on that wing have been painted and updated with lights. So, everything on that hall's been refreshed. So, when a team comes over, it's not a dingy, stinking locking room. It's clean, new lockers. So, that whole wing is been updated. >> You know, Jake was a little concerned. He's like, "Okay, you've done all this Are those basketball locker rooms still looking like they were when I was here? I said, "No, we got all that updated. >> Say, if you want to donate some money, let's do that." >> Yeah. >> I didn't do it. >> I held it for the moment. The next visit there >> when he makes it big. >> You finished with that? >>
I am finished. Go ahead. All right, the dees fit and gate installation is underway. So if you haven't seen that on elementary school, we have that nice black rod iron all the way across the front. Safety because that's where a lot of them play during the day for Reese out front and there was no nothing there between the students and the road >> a thousand feet the whole front from one side to the other. And the gates are not in. They'll be installed Friday. And they'll also be painted black to match the fence. So all the kids will be able to play out there. And if they kick a ball, it won't go out in the street. Arlington Elementary School uh fridge and freezer replacement is underway. So they'll be able to cool that food
very well when this year starts. We have any questions? If not, there's a few other things that we've done. Um we re-roof, building, painted, athletic. Uh still working on the turf. Um >> it drains well. >> Yep. It sure does. >> Yeah, it's floating. >> Really? >> Yes. It's floating. Uh we pressure washed all the bleachers at the high school. They're there now. They'll finish up today. That means if there's a bleacher there, it's been washed, cleaned, sanitized. It's good to go. We repaired some water leaks at the high school. We also uh fixed the track. There's a few spots in the track were coming up. So, we went ahead and fixed the track, repaired it so it didn't get any worse. Uh we did some wall packs at Donaldelsson because uh it was dark
in the morning. So, we went ahead and put new wall packs on and got that lit up so when you drop your child off you they're not in the dark. We also uh did some tile work uh where there was carpet at the elementary school, original carpet. We pulled all that up, put tile in there, did that. Um like Dr. Clark said, we sealed the parking lot here. So that should give us another 10, 15 years life to it. And also we replaced wall tile because when the urinal screens were put up a year or so ago, they got pulled off the wall and it pulled a bunch of tile off. So we got all that tile replaced now. So we got that fixed and that's what we did on our spare time. >> Thank
you. really well. It has just been more than a blessful stepping Well, thank you for the opportunity to do it. >> Thank you giving me the opportunity. If you have any other questions, I can answer them if you like. If you have any >> Sean's done a great job because he always updates me and I can call them and text him and like I was walking the track. I said, "I don't know who did this. I don't know if Helis did this or this is part of us, but I don't want this track to continue because we don't have the money right now to replace this track. And so he was on it. I mean, no matter no time, they're doing it. He takes pride and he has men on his team that take pride
in their work. It we care about this. We get it. It's long term. We're trying to do things to make it long term where none of us but Tyler have to be concerned about Jason Reed, too. He's >> Yeah. >> Oh, I think Mr. Reed's at our age bracket, so I don't know. Maybe he'll be there with Tyler. That's up to him. >> Great. >> One more last thing. Under the football field, we ran uh conduit so we can have uh fiber run from one side to the other before the track was before the field was put down. So there's >> your life will be able to utilize that >> a lot of other people be able to use it >> Mr. Go forth. >> So all right thank you very much. >> So let's
go down the list. Miss Sappinsley is on vacation. >> Have any questions about finance? As you can tell, >> y'all, >> she's not. >> Oh, yeah. Well, that's really Sean. I mean, they're they're kind of worn out. They want to make sure everything else is in good condition right now. So, they're gonna have a lot of time on their hands without having to go to the football fieldhouse every day. So, >> oh, there's always something. But I think now they can focus on the rest more than what they've had to do and spread him out. But they've done a great job in that. Mr. >> Gopher, >> Mr. Hill, >> Miss Walker, >> Miss Spman, >> Miss Douglas, I think that's it. >> I take it back. Oh my gosh, that young one >> uh
legislatively inside. Yeah, actually a little something to share. So on the state side doesn't appear there's a lot of activity federal side. Um and I'll just read these and there's a lot here. So, as you all are aware, the president expressed his intention to dismantle US Department of Education. And so, on June 16th, US Department of Education announced it's going to move much of its Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services to the US Department of Health and Human Services. So with this transfer of the responsibilities from the USDE to HHS, HHS now will manage grant administration, enforcement, compliance and monitoring activities, annual performance determinations and assessments and collection reporting and analyzing data for monitoring compliance. As I read that out loud, that's a lot more than what it felt when I read it out
loud. That's a lot. In the short term, IDA will uh federal funding will continue to flow through the US Department of Education. Then the funding will begin flowing from the US Department of Health and Human Services in the fall of 2026. The second move was that on June 16th, they announced that the US Office of Student Privacy and Protection will move to the Department of Justice. So under this partnership, the DHA will review complaints alleging um privacy act violations, conduct necessary investigations, and recommend potential resolutions. So those are the two changes. Thank you for helping me out. Those are the two on the record. I'm not bright enough to know how concerning this is, but it seems like there's promising concerns when you make transitions like this uh just with change of process and ownership
and handoffs. So, it's going to be an interesting situation. >> I'm curious how much bigger the DOJ will pursue that I got relatively full. I can't see them. I can't figure out 35 years and I can't figure that >> uh while we're on this I know there is there's funding for this My understanding about funding essentially stays the same from our state dollar per >> our per pupil has increased >> increased >> I think it's like around $7700 >> based off of the number is still basing it off of pre like two years ago >> no previous year they always base it off of like next year will this year and they do approximation and then if they give us too much because we had more students this year than next year then as they
give it to us in increments they make that adjustment. >> Okay. >> But Miss Sappinsley does an approximation based on what she knows we'll have. >> Okay. >> Is there something? Well, I thought as I was reading through this thing that it was talking about that we >> miss correct my >> I think I think we're conflating two different issues. So, um Dr. Clark was talking about the county funding um and I think you're talking about the Tissa funding in regard to the hold harmless as it relates to any drop in students. that she piece of funding we get per pupil. But yes, if we have a certain drop, but I don't know our drop is going to be enough. >> Is that That's right. We we won't know yet. But but yes, there is
still a hold harmless provision in TISA for this year. >> Well, this year really stretch that stretch back to last year even as well. Those numbers are based off last year. >> It's based off of last year. Yes. started doing this whole >> That's right. And then it goes down incrementally after that. >> Yeah. And then like next, not this coming year, but year after that, then you go back to actual numbers. >> Yes. >> Okay. That's what I thought. I was sure. >> Okay. Cool. Thanks for the clarification. Sure. All right. We'll move ahead to consent agenda. Do you have a motion to approve consent agenda? >> Motion to approve. >> Motion by Miss Barn. Second by Mr. Dunn. Any discussion? All favor say I. Any oppos? Have it. The motion passes. >> I'll
move ahead to business recommended action items. Uh 7A. Uh >> recommendation approve child trafficking K through 12 instructional implementation plan. >> Okay. You heard recommendation to approve question. Dr. Second >> second by far any discussion >> the way that I can relate this I think it's not the same but how the process works is they pass a law but then we're always like okay how do we implement it and if you'll remember the gun safety of last year and I shared with you first we had to pass it and then I share with you the details on how it's going to be delivered and I sent you an email and I sent you a follow-up email as it got closer. We are still um waiting to find out some guidance from the state on implementation
of it. Um I don't know Miss Speakman you want to share any more information on that because I know you've been working with Mr. vote for. >> Um, yes. The primary change in this law was that it takes this curriculum um out of the family life curriculum and it puts it in under the health curriculum. And then what we're waiting on to Dr. Clark's uh point is to get more robust direction on what this curriculum is supposed to cover, if you will, as it relates to child trafficking as opposed to the way it was written before, which was human trafficking, which strangely is I mean, you think trafficking is trafficking, but the point they're trying to elucidate for people is that it is actually different the way that it happens in its inception and and
what happens as consequence. And so, um, more importantly though for for us is that, uh, there's a a provision that talks about how it has to be age appropriate because needless to say, when you're now going to have this, you know, discussion and it goes all the way down to, you know, the kindergarten or first grade age, you can't have the same discussion about that with a first grader that you could have with a 12th grader. So that's all the meat that needs to be put on the bones that we don't know about quite yet. And then within what was given to you, you'll see the breakdown of grades that we get more details as we get that doc and I'll communicate that like I did the gun safety how we question all those in
favor say I. Any opposed? >> Eyes have it. The motion passes. We'll move to 7B. Recommendation to award performance bonus to Dr. Alison Clark. We have a motion to approve it. So, >> uh motion by um I'll talk about that. We've actually already talked about all that we did that recommendations around that. So, any discussion district. >> Uh so all in favor say >> I oppose. >> I have a motion passes. Uh 7 C recommended to a recommendation to approve the nomination of Mr. Scott Benj for the board the director's position of TSBA executive treasurer. Uh do I have a motion to approve? >> Motion to approve. >> Second. uh motion second barns um discussion around this is uh I just talked with different people entry point there treasure and so I expect a little
piece kind of the same thing we did but >> well deserved sir Yes. >> Thank you for doing it. >> Uh so all in favor say I. >> I. Any opposed? >> Have it. Motion passes. Uh 7D approval. Uh third party. >> Okay. Approval of proposed 2026 2027 board meeting schedule. Understand you've received that score. Send that to us. >> Just need approval of it. >> All right. There we go. Uh so do I have a motion to approve? Yeah. Motion by Connley and a second by Mr. Dunn. Any discussion at all? All favor say. Any opposed? Guys have it. Motion passes. We are
