Mr. Mel lead us in a prayer. Mr. Clark will lead us in a place. >> If you would let us pray. Our father in heaven, we're so thankful, Father, for this humble avenue of prayer. Father, we're grateful, Father, for the lives that you place before each one of us gathered here today. Father, we pray that we always have a heart of gratitude, Father, for we know that there's people in this community, Father, in this country, in this world that are so much less fortunate than we are. Help us to always be thankful, Father. Father, we're thankful for this great system that we live in, Clay County School System. We pray, Father, that we always do what's right. Father, we pray that you give us the wisdom on how to care for the staff, for the

children, Father, and for everybody that's associated, Father, with this with this system. Father, most importantly, Father, we're thankful for your son, our savior, Jesus Christ. Father, come down this low of sin and sorrow, suffer, bless, and die on that cross for the mission of our sins. And we're grateful, Father. Father, I pray that you guide this meeting and help us to look to you and anything we need. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. >> Amen. >> I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> I want to welcome everyone to our November board of education meeting. I'm grateful everyone present with us. Mr. Cheryl is joining us by phone as he's traveling

on the way back from work. So he's he's with us by phone tonight. Move to item three on the agenda. Approve the minutes of the October 16th, 2025 regular session as received. >> Second motion by Miss Weir, second by Mr. Henson. Any discussion? If not, all in favor. >> Any opposed? Motion passes. Item four, approve the agenda for the November 13th, 2025 regular session as you have in front of you. Should be no changes from what you receive. >> Motion by Mr. West, second by Miss Weir. Any discussion? If not, all in favor? Any opposed? Motion passes. Item five or public comment period. Anybody sign in there, Miss Riddle? Good deal. We'll proceed. Item six, request bids for a window replacement sliding coverings at Henry Springs School and B dark fiber lease. Uh, you should

have received in your packet um or actually in your email a rendering of the window replacement and coverings at Hermy Springs School. Uh, if you'll recall over the years, we've tried to replace some of those um as summer projects and things of the like. Um, but there are still several that are in need of replacement. Um and uh we it's part of the as it's been budgeted and so we would ask that we request bids uh for this project and uh see if we can wrap it up. There will be some grant funding that will be uh applied to this project as well through the safe schools programs. So um the first step will be to request the bids and then we'll see what the bids would come back at. I think we talked about

about 10 windows uh with seven classrooms being impacted and then auditorium and things of that sort on the back side of the building. But um could please the board would ask that we request bids for that project to replace motion by Mr. Ashlock second by Mr. Melton. Any discussion? If not, all in favor? >> I. Any opposed? >> Motion passes. That would lead to item 6B to request bids for dark fiber release. >> Well, we replaced the phone system at Herminage Springs earlier this year. We discovered in that bid process that there is somewhere around 3 to five miles of fiber from somewhere in the Oak Grove area to Hermedage Springs that has never been a part of our rate. So we need to request to rebid that so we can include that mileage into

that rate total and that will let you guys receive a reimbursement of 90% on that mileage of five release instead of the board having to pay the full amount. So that's the purpose of requesting bids when we had already done it just a year ago. Motion Mr. Ash. >> Any discussion? >> If not, all in favor? >> I. >> Any opposed? Motion passes. Item seven, consider the following policy on first reading. Revised policy 6.30, code of conduct. You have the copy of the revised of the policy with the revision highlighted there on page 206 or the code of conduct that providing him. the back of >> it and all that >> I talked to a doctor said on motion by Mr. West, second by Mr. Ash. Any discussion, >> that's the only change. Everything else

was existing, sir. And then the only change was the addition of lines 12 through 14 there on page two. Yes, >> Mr. Edwards back there >> that that line the TSBA audits our board policies. That line was omitted. It's a state law that that particular line has to be in there. So that's why that's the reason for the change. as a result of her TSBA audit. Mr. Cheryl. >> Okay, >> we have a motion on the floor by Mr. West, seconded by Mr. Ashlock. Any further discussion? If not, all in favor? I. >> Any opposed? Motion passes. That brings us to our principal report. >> Who wants to go first? Um so uh recently we've had this year last couple months we've had several added several opportunities for our students to have a voice. One

of those was our student school board members. Um then we had a couple of students Miy and Jen Ortiz asked that we start a student council at the high school and um you know and they did the on that. I said, "Okay, it be great." And um we had some nomination process and and we if you're a student council member in here tonight stand up. I know we've got at least a couple. Yeah, I think we is too. So, um, we have 10 council members and, um, they have already kind of been meeting and talking and, um, think they might talk about a couple things they've done in a minute, but um, one thing they've asked is could the students have a winter formal? So, we're we're going to talk about trying to get that

going. Looking forward to that. Um, another thing I'd like to do is Our FFA students are we we got a strong CTE program at the high school and our FFA students always represent well. So I'm going to ask them to present our CPA for high school. >> So first we'll start off with our 2025 American FFA degree recipients. Um this is the highest degree achievable uh through the national organization and it shows their dedication to the chapter and association. Um it demonstrates the effort they apply towards their supervised agricultural experiences and their outstanding leadership abilities and community involvement exhibited through their FFA career. And our three recipients this year was Ker Up and Will Dawson. Um, I blank on my name for some reason. Um, and then we had Miss Jada's fashion design class. They

brought their shoe designs to life as they constructed them out of duct paper prototypes. Um, our business communications, one of my favorite classes by Mr. David Brown, um, had us research like five different careers on Indeed and find common things like soft skills such as, you know, people skills or being on time. and he had us research all that. And then we took six freshman FFA members to our Greenhand conference and they met state and regional officers and participated in a bunch of leadership activities. So the next thing I'm talk about I'm going start off with our A program. So we took six students to the regional FFA forestry contest here at standing stone. Um we placed well in that and it was a really good experience. a lot of them have a good time.

We also sent we sent 12 students to MTSU rate a roundup students explored multiple aspects of college and careers and we went to a bunch of workshops um conference style and me myself I know I did food science and I did um FFA I did FFA basics and then we also hosted a chapterwide floral design contest. students competed in a chapterwide contest made up of an individual knowledge exam identification and a group creation of a floral arrangement. Me and McKenna and Abby also did that. Um, and then faculty, staff, and students were invited to create their own floral arr. Next, I'm going to move to our human or human studies program. Miss J's class finished sewing their aprons and are about to start their cooking unit on Monday. Um, coach Leia, he did he teaches

teaching and introduction to progression students. projects that reflected the impact of genetics, environment, friends, culture, and more impacting women's personality as they grow. And then finally, in our welding department, um, one of their projects was baseball team mobile plate holders. These were designed and built by our welding students. And then they also used the welding simulators and classes to compete for the best. >> Another CP program that isn't on this paper is the same class. nursing class and we just finished our test on December the 10th to get >> course last week we had our first round football game um the Copper Basin tomorrow and I will play Midway competition but still looking forward the big win there. Um, you know, please come out and support us. First home basketball game is next Thursday, next

Thursday. Um, you know, probably hardly that's already here, but it's on us. And then, of course, everything else runs smooth. AIRS is still hard get I think they're down to three or four parents completing their side of the FA. So, everything is going well there. We You know, they were telling me about another kid today that had no plans to do anything after high school and is, you know, after talking with them and seeing everything he could leave on the table, he's changing high school. At the end of October, we held parent teacher conferences. About 75 parents or 75 families showed up, which we were really thrilled with. We gave away a surplus of books and toys that had been given to us that been donated. Seventh grader Hunter McLaren was named SR student of

the month for October. Eighth grade visited Tennessee Tech with Miss Leslie Smith, our counselor. prek through third went to the pumpkin patch and spent all day and we came back money and drilled to death and worn out. Halloween was busy. Had a lot of kids dress up thanks to the board and central we had ice cream sundies and they made their own floats with ice cream that was given. Uh they got gift bags as well with some toys and candy and they had their class parties in the afternoon. First place winners of the 25 Clay County Soil and Water Conservation Contest. Third grade was Hobie Hail. Fourth grade Joshua McLaren. And we just had our attendance rewards for the first nine weeks. One of the things that has been worked on the last couple years

that I knew I inherited was chronic absenteeism. It's doing really well. this program between that and some things that Derek is doing and having a judge on our side. It's really working. Uh each nine weeks we tie it to a children's book. The first nine weeks was if you give a mouse a cookie. So what better way to celebrate the eighth grade that won was to get crumble cookies. So we had a big day with that. And they also got some other things that had been donated as well. Basketball's rolling along. Red Bulls at home tonight as I speak. >> Thanks Sarah. Any questions for Dr. T? For Dr. Kenzie, Mr. Maxfield, he uh has given us a a report packets as well. He is attending a home basketball game, see what's going on at

the KA. So, we'll move to item nine or director's report. Uh to follow up on something Martina said, um I just want all of you to know that the CTE director, Miss Amy Dodson, and I met with some folks and the nursing home in Gainesboro is paying $25 an hour for a CNA certificate. So these kids that are going to sit for those boards next week, it's amazing what they can make in such a short period of time. It is just outstanding. We've had lots of kids to go through that that are have gainful employment because of that. Um the Livingston TCAT the technology center has given Klay County High School because of our partnership and are taking a bus over there daily. They've given two 6 by9 utility buildings to us to use for

sports storage, softball, baseball, basketball, whatever Dr. Tinsley and Daniel Strong decide is is most needed. They're trying to decide as we speak where they're going to put those utility buildings. We're really proud of those and they're being delivered in the morning. So, a lot of lot of good stuff going on, guys. Um the grant funds from soil conservation, as you all know, have been put on hold since the budget has come has been approved. We have not yet heard uh when the funding is going to kick back in and when we're going to get that project done, but we'll keep you guys updated. Okay. Um and Todd, you were mentioning we had a wonderful guest speaker um that came and did the inservice with us on Tuesday on Veterans Day for the vaping and tobacco

prevention. So, we're we're we're really working on that. That's a major issue in all schools. In all schools. Yeah. One of our teachers from Hermitage Springs, Miss Michael Collinssworth, participated in a Tennessee Department of Education literacy network program that helps teachers teach reading. We have received another Save the Children grant. And included in this generous donation has been youth, toddler, and youth clothing, toothbrushes, toddler, and youth shoes and clothes, adult socks, highlights, magazines, books, and toys. And we're trying to get all of that out in the school. And thank you principles for helping distribute all of that at your parent teacher conferences. That's a job to get that out. Uh, all the teachers in Klay County School System have received a the stop the bleed training by our EMS director, Kyle Haney. We did that

Tuesday. They will all receive a certificate for that. And guys, you can look on the back page. There is just a lot of things going on. Um, any questions, concerns you have about anything, we try to put everything in here that we can, but we just hit the surface with it. Okay. Why are we going on our school forcard evaluation? >> Uh we we we'll get that's embargoed as we speak. It's going to be released I think into a three weeks. >> Looking good. No. >> We don't know yet. Bob, >> I want to add about the vape education. >> Yes, please do. In the fall semester this semester, Miss Sandy Swinson, who's the Klay County Health Department health educator, spent six Mondays in the wellness classes at the high school doing vape education. The

SRO's in the elementary schools are doing some vape education with classes. And we hope that the SAD club at the high school in the spring can go to the elementary schools and do some peer education with vape vape and tobacco prevention. So, So we are we are addressing that. So >> we're trying to really attack that because it it's a real discipline concern in the high schools and the middle schools. It is a major issue. It truly is and you all need to know know it. Yeah. >> Years down the road when it's going to be the problem. >> Absolutely. They don't even know the extent of how serious it's going to be yet. That's correct. Uh, and Nick, I will ask Miss Misty to come and give a report next board meeting too on

what we know so far. Okay. I sure will. >> Any other questions for Mr. Ro? >> Well, one other thing, let me add. Um, our SRO Jeff Allen has finished with everybody, I think, but the senior class. There's a new state law you probably are aware of that every child in the school system has got to have firearm safety training and it's all grade and age appropriate and the department of education has sent out videos that he's got to go around to every student in the Klay County school system and I had asked him to try to accomplish that before the Christmas holiday break and um he just lacks the senior class and Dr. Tinsley is working with him on that to get them scheduled quickly. Okay, that you know we're about finished with that

quick question. We had discussed maybe last month potentially having next meeting at the CTE building. Was that something that Do we have the furniture? >> No. Okay. >> They finished the painting uh touchup this past week and the three doors have not been locked. They came and we went over there and they they've corrected all of that where they've got the lockable doors now, don't they, Dr. Tinsley? We met over there this week. So, just you know how it is when you finish a project, you see what all needs to be done, then the contractor has to come back and finish it. >> Well, maybe we'll revisit that for Daniel. >> Let's do that. Yeah, that's a wonderful idea. >> No need to rush you. >> Right, Dr. You didn't want to carry a bunch

of chairs out there for us, did you? >> No need for that. Uh, it's not necessarily on the agenda, but we'd like to give our our student board members a chance to address anything. Feel free to you got 35 minutes to speak. >> Um I'll try to keep this brief as possible. I do talk a lot but um I'm currently I've got the approval from Missed and I'd like anybody that can come to come witness it. Um to briefly summarize what it's going to include um any student or staff that wants to come invited in Mr. classroom opportunity to be a leader for the school and for the chapter. So I decided to use my skills to teach students and staff to lead by example at CCHS. So what it what it will entail consists

of three small activities. It's gonna nobody's going to miss class time. going to be during third and seventh period and basically they're going to come in. Um it's just three small activities that I'll give you one example. I'm going to have them write on a whiteboard two leadership traits and then two applications of that. So the leadership trait is kind of maybe that action or that application is like holding the door open for someone like something that they can take and learn and it's not something they have to go home and think about like how do I become a leader like it can be something they can apply in fourth period in this third if that makes sense. So I'm very blessed with the opportunity to be a leader at our school and to have

a voice for all the students and the student body. Thank you guys. And that's all. >> Have the date been set? >> Yes, it is December 3rd. >> In third period, what time is that? >> Yes. 10 104. >> Thank you. >> I'm going to go back to what Dr. was saying earlier for the student council. Um, one of the big things that we've done so far is we've set up like a suggestion box for things that students want to at the school. And while while we've had some of them that are a little little bit out of our reach, like changing the price of Coke products in the machine, which we obviously can't do that, we've had some good suggestions and we're hoping to like when we fundra for the winter formal, we plan

on using the extra learning that we have from that to like fix some of the suggestions. Thank you. Anything else? Any other business that needs to be considered before the board at this time? >> If not, I'll make a motion. Mr.
