All right. Well, good evening everyone. Thank you all for being here. Call to order our meeting, regular meeting uh for February. Uh board members, on your desks, you have a proposed agenda for the 9th meeting. Floor would be open for a motion to adopt this as our agenda or make any changes. >> I move to approve the tonight's agenda. >> Okay. Got a motion. Second >> and a second. Any further discussion? All in favor say I. >> Anyone oppose say no. All right. Thank you. Uh if everyone would please rise for the pledge of allegiance. >> I aliance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you. Okay, board members, you had in
an email from Miss Williams on the 28th, you had a uh the minutes from our January board meeting. Uh if you had a chance to review those for be open for a motion that we adopt those minutes or approve those minutes. Make a motion to approve the January 5th, 2026 board for meeting minutes. >> All right, got a motion. >> Second. >> And a second. >> All in favor say I. >> I. Any opposed say no. Thank you. We also in the email today have dispersements for the month. If you haven't done so, please take a moment and look at those. We need to approve those dispersements for January. Make a motion. >> Okay. Have a motion to approve the dispersements. >> Second. >> A second. Any questions or comments? All in favor say I.
>> Anyone oppose say no. >> Great. Thanks for that. Uh for our principal reports, we have Miss Taylor with us today. Welcome. >> Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Uh from Ralph Akins, parent teacher conferences will be held on the evening of Tuesday, February 10th from 3:30 to 6:30. During this event, parents and students can participate in a scavenger hunt created by Britney Barnett. If they complete the scavenger hunt, they may see her in the library for a prize. On Thursday, February 12th, we will have our annual Valentine's dance. The K through 12 grade students will be in the cafeteria while the third through fifth grade students will be in the gymnasium. Tickets will be on sale for $5 to enter. And then lastly, uh they will have a candygrams that will be sold this
month for students to give to other students or send to themselves and they will be given out on February 12th and all proceeds will go to Junior's house. For Fedville Middle School, progress reports will be sent home tomorrow. Um our third benchmark testing will be given the week of the 17th to gauge where students are performing thus far. Parent teacher conferences will be held on Tuesday, February the 10th from 3:30 to 6:30. And we would appreciate all parents joining us to speak with their child's teachers. Our baseball and soccer seasons begin this month and we would appreciate your support of our student athletes at these competitions. Um, and our afterchool clubs are continuing to thrive. Uh, we are providing opportunities for students who participate in non-athletic gatherings. We have plenty of athletics. So, we want
to provide opportunities for those um who weren't involved in sports and um our students will be attending the FHS's um freshman form that's going to be held on March the 3rd. So, I believe it starts at and I'll have to get the high school to confirm. I believe it starts at 6 or 6:30. And so, all of our eighth graders hopefully will be there to get oriented to the high school. And then this is a little in the future, but we wanted you to have this date to put on your calendars that we've scheduled 8th grade night for May the 2nd from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. And it's a time to celebrate our eighth graders moving on to the high school level. So it is a formal occasion. We would invite you all to come
out and enjoy it with us. May the 2nd from 6:00 to 9:00. And then from Fedville High School, mock interviews for our seniors will be next Wednesday, February the 11th. We have 20 business leaders and community members that will be here to interview students that day. Our first ever basketball homecoming went very well. We appreciate all the support from staff, school staffs, and community to make that night special for all students involved. Basketball's regular season is wrapping up. We will have or they will have senior night Tuesday night starting at 5:15. Wednesday at 9:30 in the FHS gym, we will have our signing day for athletics. We have two athletes this year that will sign with their colleges. And then you all should have a copy of the Black History Month flyer. Mr. Tim Hobbs
has asked uh that we give you all that. And for those that don't have one, I'll just read what it says. FEL High School celebrates Black History Month. Friday, February the 20th, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Guest speakers include FHS alumni, Kendrick Williams, member of the first class of the FJHS um FJHS first class is Veronica King, WF48, Margot Gray will also be a speaker. History and presentation of the Underground Freedom Quilt by Debbie Yorba and members of the Wonky Sewing Social, a local quilting club will also be there. special music, instrumental drums, dance, and a presentation of black history by FHS students and community members. And this will be held at Febal High School at 1800 Wilson Parkway, and everyone is invited to attend. >> And that's it. Any questions? >> So, I'm understanding correctly
that Miss King was a member of the first class of Fable Junior High. It opened. >> Yes. >> Came over from Robert Lee. I know the year. I just wasn't going to throw that permission. >> Sportsama use. Yeah. Okay. Not long after. >> Okay. That is really special. I've never heard of him doing that. That's really cool. So, that'll bracket the really the life of that facility over there if you think about it. >> Christmas. >> Awesome. Thank you. I knew it must be baseball season because it's winter. It's like 12 degrees outside. That's when baseball and softball kicks off. Yeah. And we're we'll start this week or this month practices start this week. >> Well, thank you. That was a great report. Appreciate all the principles do for us. >> Um, next on our
agenda is time for any members of the public who registered to speak and >> I don't I'm not aware of any. >> Okay. >> Super. >> Well, then we'll move on. Uh, supervisor's reports. I know Mr. McCormick was back there. >> Yep. You want to go first? >> No, I I really want you to go first. >> Okay. Be careful what you wish for. >> Um, so I have for your consideration tonight some approval of some ELA curriculum. Uh, what has happened is as the state has moved from a 5-year adoption cycle to a 8-year adoption cycle, we get these gap years. And um, pretty much um, we're sticking with the same curriculum. Akins is going to stick with Amplify. high school is going to stick with Savis, but after talking with Miss Monty and
Miss Maggie at the middle school, they felt like they wanted to go with a different vendor. With that being a change to make sure that we're in compliance with our paperwork that we send to the textbook commission, we do need to reapprove those curriculum choices for this three-year gap. And then at the conclusion of the three-year gap, they'll enter a whole new cycle. So, we'll be going down that road again. But that's what I have for you guys tonight. And I'd appreciate you guys approving that so that we can make sure they've got the materials they need uh over these next three years. >> And that recommendation, I assume, came out of the same uh committee approach that the original ones do. So >> yeah, everything that we have on the books to be approved
is still following that state approval. That happened back in 2020. So what most systems are doing, if nothing changes, then they're just kind of sticking with the same materials and continuing on. But since we are having the change, I wanted to make sure we had all of our ducks in a row and our documents good to go. So, >> and again, we're staying the same with the elementary and the high and the middle school. The change isn't something we we're not familiar with. It's going from a v one of the vendors to the other vendor that one of the other schools use. So, it's just sliding. You know, it's not a completely new thing. >> Correct. >> Curriculum. >> Okay. So, you would need uh the board to pass that approval. So, I'll make a
motion we approve that three-year ELA gap curriculum recommendation. >> Second. >> We have a motion and a second. Any further questions? >> All in favor say I. >> Anyone oppose say no. >> Thank you so much. >> Thank you. I appreciate that. So, I want to give you a few updates on the ISM grant because we got some exciting things going in. Criminal justice simulator is going to be delivered this week. Um, we're going to be putting that in the basement of the Deon building. Uh, law enforcement are also very excited because they're going to be sharing that apparatus. Hopefully, when we get all of that set up, you guys will be able to come visit. >> And if you wanted to try, you'll probably have to be behind Mr. Jones. I know he's very
excited to get in. So, it's it's going to be very impactful to the students in the dual enrollment that we have. We're very excited that with TCAP Palaski, our freshman criminal justice students are already accumulating hours with the TCAT. And so, this simulator will allow them to be able to log those hours when they're seniors because you can't do your ride alongs, those type things to your 18. But this simulator is kind of the exception. So that way they'll be able to kind of accumulate that time. So when we get that in place, got the call today. Our green houses, we had two small green houses that are being made for us in McMimble. One of those is completed. And so we'll be able to we're going to have to look now at bringing that
in and putting it on a pad. It'll be portable, but the goal is to have two of those for the students to utilize. Hopefully by the spring at least one. Also, our print shop, you know, that's another thing we're going to be doing with our graphic arts class and graphic design. So, we're we're have to take a window out to get one piece of equipment in, but we're going to do that. So, that'll be um the all types of t-shirts and also banners. So, we'll be able to make our own in that print shop and it'll be like a student entrepreneurial shop that they can actually do things. Um, dual enrollments, criminal justice is rocking along very well. I told you 9th through 12th grade. Also, the health science, Miss Thompson does an amazing job.
Those have embedded credentials. So, some of you may be kind of familiar with what the students have that are going on in there. Media class, I hope you're watching the morning shows. If you're not, you're missing something special and spect spectacular. Seventh grade career exploration is, we think, going to be very impactful with our students. If you haven't seen it, Mr. Bradford's like the biggest fan of the media and the career exploration. He's like, if you look, number one fan on the morning shows and we appreciate him for that. And I'm sure Spencer told you previously, we have six students that are in that welding class. That's a dual enrollment. So that again is is working swimmingly and those students will be able to roll in next year. Senior is full-time in the welding class
if they choose. So, do you guys have just wanted to update you on the ICM and the equipment and where we're at on it? Do you guys have any questions for me concerning any of that or anything? >> Do y'all know where the greenhouse is going to go? >> The intent right now is to put it behind the school, the high school and the middle school in that grassy area. That's the beauty of our having uh two schools separated by sidewalk. We can utilize equipment for both schools. Of course, the eighth graders are already taking CTE classes, but that's kind of the intent that it would kind of be right there in that area. But good question. >> Just got to make sure fire marshals do. And what we did >> should be fine because
those those grassy areas are much bigger than people. >> The green houses will fit easily in those. And these are like um >> yeah these are 8 by8s so they're small but the beauty is they're portable technically even though we'll anchor them down because when you start actually building something on a larger scale now you're in facilities and now you have to look at an architect and all of these things. So these are totally at any point you could pull the anchors up they could go somewhere else. They're just coming in on a flatbed truck. So that's how we kind of get around that. But again, that's a good deal. So >> which which is pretty phenomenal because it does it saves us an immense amount of money not to have to go through the
>> the design and code and they cost triple and it it kind of >> hinder our ability to to purchase them off for that. >> Yeah. So I thought that was a pretty fantastic way to go about it. Kudos to >> All right, >> Miss Dodson for >> the good work on I was I would say our ISM efforts are >> if there's any better in the state I would like to know where they are. I'd be shocked. Yeah, >> we've been able to create a lot of opportunities with students and you know the secret is to find a way to get a teacher without having to pay for one and the dual enrollments have been and also helped us on our data on our what ready grad now but it'll be something different later
and creating opportunities for our students because you know the data shows if you can get a student enrolled in a dual enrollment they're way more likely to actually complete it or finish it. >> Right. >> So that's the goal. Yes, >> we want everybody to have a job. That's our ultimate goal. >> Yes. >> Thank you very much. >> Well, thank you. Thank you for all your work. >> All right. Uh Miss Williams, our CFO, has her monthly report. >> The uh year-to- date revenue and expenditures were emailed earlier today from July 25 through uh January 2026. And I will answer any questions you may have. This is for your review. >> Yeah. Yeah. Those are for our review each month. We do appreciate that. So, follow up with Miss Lisa if you have any
questions. Um, our committee reports tonight, facilities and transportation is first on the list. >> Okay. Um, things are going well in our buildings. Um, we were able to come through the cold weather and winter storms without really much damage. Uh, we didn't have any major water leaks or pipe bursts or major infrastructure issues that a lot of places are having. And what I want to take a moment to say how um fortunate we were a lot of the neighboring school systems have had damage to infrastructure and to their schools and some of them are still under boiling water orders and uh Metro bless their heart are they've still got numerous schools without power. So um we were fortunate um transportation everything is in great shape. Uh we're doing really well. We're kind of at a
high point for that in the year and um the team atome that's something that comes up every month. Um we had a signature at the last board of Mary and alderman meeting which we progressed. Uh since then uh it's been expedited um at during one of the reviews it got kicked back to tea and they want a little bit of uh section C I believe changed and they've resubmitted that to uh the mayor for a signature after the modification. So, it's it's currently with the city and we'll see where it goes from there. So, >> hopefully we'll move that along. >> Yes. Awesome. >> Okay. Uh in the finance uh committee report, uh let's see. I think we one of the things we were trying to track down over the last month was our audit
which was scheduled to be delivered in September, December. >> And I think Did you have an update for us tonight? I had an update from Andy Matlock with Matt Matlock Clemens and he said that the audit field work procedures is completed and there are no significant deficiencies or material weakness or any other non-compliance matters and that he should have a draft of the financial report financials um hopefully by the end of this week for us to review. >> Okay, awesome. And that's the I guess as you have explained it in the past that same company is doing the city of failables audit as well as ours. We kind of partnered in this in that sense. So hopefully there were efficiencies notwithstanding the delays in receiving it but still it's their first year and school budgets
are quite different than normal normal business budgets I guess. So, um, so if they deliver a draft this week or so, are we potentially looking at a >> we could potentially have, um, when we submit our, um, review back to them, they we could potentially have an audit presented um, March >> March. Okay, good. And the state who expects us to have already had this is understands that we're doing all the diligence we can do to >> get that audit. >> Yes. Um Andy Matlock um got an extension with the controller's office. >> Okay. Okay. So >> So we were still Okay. Perfect. Perfect. Perfect. Yeah. I just want to get blamed for something that we were not able to uh that's out of our control. So that's that's perfect. We've got that extension and
we'll uh proceed from there. So hopefully we'll be approving that audit uh next month. Thanks. >> Uh insurance and policy. Anything tonight? Not at all. Okay. Okay. Uh Dr. Mr. Jones. >> Yes, sir. Um before I go through the the listed items, I'd like to just indulge uh one moment. Uh I'd like to let everyone know that we have a a guest in the audience that is very helpful to us. Basically, take a moment to brag on someone. Um Kyle Helton in the back corner is with Department of Homeland Security and he's liaison with our school system and he works very closely with us and I there aren't enough good things for me to say about him and the genuine care he has for our Tigers and all the other students in the systems around
because he's got multiple places that he works with. But he's been a blessing to us and we appreciate him. So appreciate that. >> Um back on to the agenda. Uh we have an approval. I'd like to request approval of tenure uh for Miss Julie Eale. >> Make that motion. >> Second. >> And a second. All in favor say I. >> Anyone oppose say no. >> Thank you. >> Okay. I'd like to request approval of tenure for Laura Beard. >> I'll make that motion. >> Second. >> Motion and a second. All in favor say I. >> I. >> Anyone oppose say no. Thank you. I'd like to request approval of tenure from Monty Taylor. She has been tenured with us before in the past. Uh she worked in another system. She has been back with us
now. Um and we want to I guess reactivate her previous. >> Sure. >> Okay. I'll make a motion that we do that. >> Second. >> And a second. All in favor say I. >> I. >> Anyone oppose say no. >> Great. >> Okay. And then I'd like to request approval for the FHS swim team to travel to the state swim meet uh which is currently scheduled for February 6th and 7th in Nashville. Um there is a possibility that those dates could change. Um but tentatively we want to request for February 6th and 7th. that's >> overnight potentials and um we don't have a lot of students going but the ones that we do we're very excited for them have a great deal of success hopefully. So wish >> exciting exciting time. So you do need
more because it's it's an overnight trip so we'll need to approve that. So I'll make a motion we approve that trip for the swim team. >> Second. >> I have a second. All in favor say I. >> Anyone opposed say no. >> All right. >> And that concludes my report. >> All right. Well, um just a couple of really just one agenda item on my portion of the agenda tonight and that is that of course each month we like to recognize uh some of our employees for the work that they do. Uh this month the uh the month is for what's called special area teachers and staff. uh that is uh teachers that work in the areas of art, music, PE, technology, speech instructors, school counselors, and librarians. That's a broad swath of support folks
who uh mean so much to the the system and supporting our mission to support student growth, success, and well-being. And we want to recognize them this month. Uh these these educators serve as what it I like the themes they've gone with. this youth trust has gone with this year. They're quote undercover agents of impact is what they're calling these special area educators and they truly are because the work they do undergards uh so much of what we are trying to do for the mental, physical and emotional development of our students. U so our board recognizes their commitment and tireless contributions. And so what we would be resolving in this resolution is that the board of education designates uh March 5th, 2026 as special area teachers appreciation day across the system. And that we would express
our sincere gratitude to all educators and staff who provide specialized services within the system. And we urge our schools and school communities to recognize and honor honor these extraordinary individuals for their essential role in unlocking the potential of every student. And that's why we're here uh aren't we? Is to unlock the potential of so you trust great resolution by the way. I appreciate your influence in that in that area for us. Uh but I think that's a that's really awesome. So floor would be open for a motion that we adopt this resolution. >> Motion. >> Okay. Have motion. >> A second. >> And a second. All in favor say I. I >> anyone oppose say no. Great. Um, one one sad uh bit of news of course I'm sure that most of you have heard
about the the passing of Joel Hastings who served for many years and uh this school system uh principal at Ralph Haskins among other among other things and was loved by all. And so we uh I feel like I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that. Um and you're you're obviously any way to express your sympathy to that family and uh as they adjust to this I know they would appreciate um who's a good man. >> Absolutely. Good educator. Uh our next board meeting on the books is scheduled for March 2nd. And I say on the books because we do need to make sure we have a quarum. Everybody everybody good for March 2nd? >> Didn't we we pre-book through the >> pardon me? >> Have did we pre-book for like the the months ahead have
do like do we have the next few months schedule? >> Oh yes. It's always the first Monday. I just I just like to double check and make sure has anybody got a vacation to Tahiti planned and we're not going to and like have a quorum. >> So we're not going to have a quorum. You won't be here that night. Okay. But I guess I don't hear that there's a we'll go ahead and plan on the regularly scheduled time and if something uh if something uh necessitates a change, we can always do that. So you might want to >> modify. I know. That's why I'm asking. >> Yeah. That we Does the Would the board like to go uh to the schools to have the meetings or or since we've done that the last couple years,
do you want to stay in this room? I have no preference, but and I'm sure the schools will be happy to >> I just I know we did last year. >> Yeah. I I personally like that especially if we can get a little tour or something or some insights into something. It doesn't have to be next month, but but um it it is nice when >> that sounds good. Uh we'll we'll probably start u well Sandy and I will communicate with the principles and then we'll let y'all know locations and we'll publish that. Okay. >> Prior to >> and as long as we give public notice, we can change date or location or whatever. just make sure we get the word out. That's thanks for bringing that up. That's that's a good idea. >> Um,
>> yeah, it's great. >> The last thing on on my to-do list was to say we really need to get a board picture. >> So, I don't know if the March meeting time frame is a good time for that. Maybe Miss Williams can communicate with us. >> Okay. So, we know that's a bad time for that. What else? >> Photoshop you in. Right. >> That's right. >> Uh, probably not a good idea. We'll we'll catch a time for you. um it's just getting later and the our student representative is going to graduate >> and so that that doesn't need to be a topic that we nail down. So >> yeah, we can tentatively try to shoot for April and >> and we could even just get together for photos sometime if >> Yeah, that' be
great. >> folks are around here sometime. I know that leads pretty much there a lot of different events that will all be, you know, together most likely. >> That's right. Yeah, that's right. So, we'll we'll I'll I'll work with Miss Williams to kind of make a concerted effort um to to get us all in the same place for a a good photo. Um I hate not to >> Yeah, she's a jet. >> All right. Does anybody have anything else tonight for the meeting? Otherwise, we will stand a journ. Thank you. Thank you all.
