call the uh June meeting of the Trouser County Board of Education to order. Would everybody please stand for the invitation? Please remain standing for the pledge of allegiance. Let us bow. Dear most holy heavenly father, we come to you tonight, dear Lord, to thank you for all your many blessings. We're especially thankful, Father, for your greatest of all blessings, your son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Father, we ask that you bless us to make the right decisions for this school system. We ask that you bless us to uh continue to be able to have a safe school system. And we ask that you just continue to bless all of our students, teachers, staff, parents, everyone connected with the school system during this summer, especially those traveling uh to be able to do so safely

and to arrive back home again safely. Father, we just ask that you continue to bless us in all things for it's in Christ's name we pray, dear Lord. Amen. >> Amen. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you. Be seated. Okay. Next on our agenda is time for public comment. there's anyone in the audience that would like to uh make a comment to the board on on anything, now's the time. Okay. Uh next is an invitation. If there's any audience member that would like to address any item that's on the agenda, has everyone been able to see the agenda, see what's on it? Anyone would like to speak to

any item on the agenda, please let me know. I'll put your name down and we'll call on you at that time. All right. Next is approval of the agenda for tonight. Uh we hope you've had time to look over it. The only addition is that Miss Coffin was telling us about and it was just moving it to new business because we had uh we're required to do a vote on it and it be recorded that way, not just in a consent agenda. So please look over that if everybody's >> litigation. Okay. Sorry. >> Yeah. I'm sorry. I should >> I missed that. >> Anybody have any additions or changes or anything to the agenda? If not, I would accept a motion to approve. >> I make a motion to approve agenda. >> Have a motion

by Deanna to approve tonight's agenda. Do I have a second? >> Second. >> All in favor? Oh, I'm sorry. discussion. All in favor, please say I. I. >> I. >> Any opposed? Please say no. Okay. Next on the is the consent agenda. Please look over each of those. We did go over those at the work session. Uh but if you have uh any questions or would like to uh discuss them any of these more thoroughly, let me know. We'll move that to new we'll move those to new business. Did we get that third chair person added on the >> I did not make the change there, but I did make the change on the uh sheet. >> I think what is >> the cheer just making sure that all the adults that were in charge

of >> Oh, the field trip. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> It's not reflected here, but I did put it on the one that I will sign and send it back to Mr. McCall. >> Okay. >> Don't you just have admire anyone going on that field trip, especially cheerleaders? >> I've done it. That's one thing I have to say. That's one thing I never had to do. >> I'll leave with one. So, >> all right. Hearing no. Uh uh nobody wanting to move something. Do I have a motion to approve tonight's consent agenda? >> Motion by Miss Penny to approve tonight's consent agenda. Do I have a second? >> Second by Miss Boding. Any discussion? All in favor, please say I. I. >> Any opposed, please say no. The consent agenda is approved. Uh, okay. I

think we got a journ put up there pretty quick. >> What happened there? >> I don't think you want us to adjourn. >> I don't know how that jumped up there, but that later. >> All right. Next. Do we have any school district highlights? >> Uh, not tonight. >> Okay. And of course, our principles are not here. Don't have anything from any of them. Our new student representative, when does he start? >> August. Okay. And next then is the director's report. >> Okay. On June employment notices, um, Julie Kennedy resigned her position as EA from the elementary school. We hired Caleb Schmidow as the assistant principal at the high school. We hired Lindseay Dy as the assistant principal at the middle school. Kristen Sanders has resigned her position as a teacher at JSM. She did

the U CTE career exploration classes. We hired Tucker Kirk as a full-time sub at the middle school. Uh Miles Wright, he may remember that name. He was here several years ago and taught with us and he is coming back as the eighth grade social studies teacher which that's where he was when he left us. And then we've hired Robin Bransford as the new high school ELA teacher. So we've got two positions as of right now to fill and we're going to do interviews next week on that. >> The full-time sub position is is that a certified teacher? >> It is certified salary. >> Yeah. I I knew we were trying still trying to do those. I didn't remember seeing that he was >> Yes, >> sir. That's correct. >> Yep. Yes, he is, sir. He

taught in Wilson County last year. >> Wait a second, Mr. >> We're up to director's report. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. So, they're not a whole lot to report because school is out, but we do have summer school still going on. Uh, next Friday is the last day of summer school. It has gone by really fast. Mr. Schmidto and Miss Clarity have done a great job. We have ended up this year with approximately 90 enrolled is a little bit down from last year. Uh but it has run real smooth. I have not heard anything but good things from that. Each Friday they have had a reward day. This Friday I think Pelican Ice is coming. Uh last week I think they did candy and something. Next Friday will be the last day. So they're going

to do their field trip day but they will stay here for that. They're going to rent jumpy houses. And last year it worked really well because they had stations to go to and the kids seem to enjoy staying here more than going somewhere cuz they make it a little special. So that will end next Friday. This week was 4 camp. Is 4 camp. I think they come back tomorrow. We had 52 students attending 4 camp. Credit recovery wrapped up this week. We only had three students that needed to attend and they all completed their coursework. Two completed last week and one completed at the beginning of this week. We have dead period beginning June 29th and will go to July 4th. Um in service for teachers begins the week of July 13th. So that's right

around the corner. And then all of my administrators are in place and I plan to have an administrator retreat with them off campus somewhere for a day and just set goals and expectations for next school year. That will be July 10th. So that'll be before we come back. >> This may be the most new administrators we've ever had. more than I can ever remember. >> That's what I was saying. I was trying to think. I can't remember. >> But I'm super excited about all of them and I think I know that assistant principles are already working. Um I I've told them they officially don't start till July 1st, but the principles may need them to help. And they've all jumped in and um they're all been working some through this month trying to get schedules

and um everything that we doing in the summer six uh together. It's really nice to see with such a small district that there are leadership opportunities. So while they aren't brand new to their position, they've all had leadership opportunities. And that has that's a difficult thing for a small district to do but those have been created know that they had those opportunities. So summer school >> we've been able to do that now for several years kind of is like create your own new administrators >> and I think it's it's has proven to really work well because of how well they've >> hit the ground running so to speak. >> We do great things here. We should keep our people here. Well that is my goal and that's what we're trying to do. Uh, we have

not had, knock on wood, I know it's still early, but we are keeping everybody. The couple that we have left, like I said, one left because they're going back home to Texas. >> One left because they're going to another county with their husband and family, so they can be on the same schedule. So, it's all, >> you know, >> Family related and things that you, you know, I respect them. some of the highest teacher retention rate in the state. >> Really? >> Yes. In Charles Rapan. I mean, it's ridiculously hot. >> That's great. >> Um the only maintenance the fence finally has complete around the chiller. We finally got that up this week. So, um that's um done. And I think while they were doing that, they also completed the fence around the ball fields

that they were the softball field that we were going to fix is fixed. >> So, >> same company did. >> Yes. Same person. Um >> they started I know we talked about um Tuesday night they started the the gym floor at the middle school. They've already replaced all the wood. Now they're getting ready to go in and start sanding it all back. >> You have to replace it all or just the piece? just that four >> four foot little sections. It's been replaced and now they're going to start sanding it and that's going to be what takes the majority of the time. >> Being able to move that event to the >> house. Yeah. I mean, that's solid concrete. >> Yeah. We didn't realize the wear and tear until this happened. But >> Well, it's

been going on so many years. >> It has. >> I mean, how long's that thing been there? >> It's been at least 10. Oh, for sure. >> And they are putting the pads in the same place. So, they're doing it I mean over time. It's just weakened it. >> Yeah. Long time. >> Yeah. >> Is that your report? >> Sorry. That's it. >> Okay. If you haven't had the opportunity to uh drive by the uh College Street entrance to the football field, the uh sign that uh you know, we we named that It's not really a street, but it's the entrance way into the stadium and everything that the board voted on several several months ago. Uh Clint Satfield way. It is up now. It >> is up. >> And I like I actually like

where they put it in the middle. >> I do too. >> Cuz that way it it whether it's ingress or egress, >> you know, it kind of >> it turned out to look really good and in the spot that it's in, it it it worked out very well. I think >> I did have somebody ask me uh you know what what was we going to do when somebody steals it? I didn't know people were still stealing street signs. Is that still a thing? >> I believe it is. It is definitely still a thing. >> But too our goal is to put cameras up >> at the end of the year. So when we put cameras up, we'll be if it happens, we'll have a video of who we did. So that's our goal. Our next

goal is to put up cameras there. >> And you say the beginning, you're talking about July 1st. >> Uh yeah, some July >> somewhere between then and the beginning. >> We're getting a grant. If when that grant comes in, we'll start with all that. >> Okay. All right. Anybody have any questions for Miss C? >> Okay. Next, we don't have any old business, so we move right into the new business for this month. 8A approval of the fiscal year 27 federal projects budget. Uh that's what we looked at at the work session. That's simply the budget that uh details all the spending for all the federal money we get. That's CTE, that's special education, any federal program that we give have obviously have to have a budget for it. and it was attached to the

budget that we sent to the county commission um many months ago >> and so they've had it. So, anybody have any questions or anything about that? We just have to pass it so we can show that, you know, we've approved it. Any discussion? Any questions? Do I have a motion to approve the uh this year's federal projects budget? >> I make a motion. Motion by Mr. Atwood. Do I have a second? >> I'll second. >> Second by Miss Bod. >> Any discussion? >> All in favor, please say I. >> Any oppose, please say no. >> Okay, we've approved the federal projects budget. Next is the approval of textbook disposal. Rachel, I remember you said something Tuesday night about that problem. You can't imagine how many textbooks can just get stacked. We've had whole storage rooms

with nothing but old textbook. >> What's the disposal consistent? >> Probably taking them to the inconvenience center. >> And sometimes, you know, it's a >> you jokingly said, I would like this. Sometimes people really do want these and um they will take them after we dispose of them for whatever reason. So, >> but I mean they do take up a lot of room. >> They do. And that's something that we don't do on a regular basis. So, you can tell a long long list. Yes. >> And all of these books are outdated and are in no longer in use. >> All right. Any questions? Do I have a motion to approve permission to dispose of old textbooks? >> Motion by Miss Petty. Do I have a second? >> I'll second. >> Second by Mr. Atwood.

>> Any discussion? All in favor, please say I. >> Any opposed, please say no. >> Does pass unanimously. The next one is the uh we need to create a custodian position at Trito County High School. Uh again, this is brought about by the death of Miss Dicki who uh passed away couple of months ago. And luckily we have someone to uh to do this job, but we can't hire somebody for a job that doesn't exist. Uh, Miss Catherine, would you do you have anything you'd like to say about this? >> No, but just to clarify, Miss Vicki, we had um elevated her status to maintenance. So, she was a maintenance worker, and then we had Marcel, who was the custodian. We are going to leave the maintenance position, >> but we need to fill it

with a custodian. So, we're leave that in case at some point in time down the road that we decide that we need to do that. So, we're not getting rid of that, but we're not going to put anybody in that position as of right now. >> Maybe sometime some maintenance person may come along and that way their position already exists and they, you know, take applications and hire for any discussion, questions, motion. I'll make a motion. I have a motion by Mr. Atwood to create a new custodial position at Trito County High School. Do I have a second? >> Second by Miss Petty. Any discussion? All in favor, please say I. >> I. >> Any oppose, please say no. >> Does pass. And we were just talking about the uh gym floor at the middle

school. uh it needed to be uh repaired because of the damage done through the by the liftathon over many many years and uh the liftathon will from now on be held at the bill house uh and so once get this flooring and I think I'm going to is this part of the also where they just redo the whole floor they do the waxing and the >> redo that I know everything yeah The price includes uh the new artwork in the middle of the floor, paint and finish will be applied. So, they're going to sand it down and they've already fixed the broken pieces and then they're going to paint, finish, and put new artwork down off of the cost. >> You know, this is the gentleman from Lebanon County that's always done. >> Kirby. >>

Yeah. Yeah. He's been doing the floors and the gyms here for years, >> many, many years. And I know this is under new business and we just talked about that had already been started. We had to make a executive decision to go ahead and do this prior to tonight because of the time it was going to take to get this done and we needed to get it done before school started. >> Right. I mean volleyball practice and stuff but you know things are going to get going here really just around the corner. The school's going to be started. Oh no, they've been practicing. >> Two weeks off and then where Yeah. wide open. >> Maybe a lot of this can get done during the dead period. >> Yeah, that'd be nice. >> All right. Do

I have a motion to approve the uh uh repair at the middle school? >> Motion by Miss Petty. Do I have a second? I'll >> Second by Miss Bod. Any discussion? All in favor, please say I. I. >> Any oppose, please say no. That's pass unanimously. And then the last is the false claims litigation thing that Scotland was telling us about. Would you like to just go to that? >> Just to put it on record. Um, we discussed this, but I need it in board minutes because I will have to send it to the attorney so that she can have it on file. But what this is is the state of Tennessee has done a class action lawsuit against um book companies. Uh they said that they are alleging that companies have illegally overcharged Tennessee

school districts for textbooks and instructional materials. If we as a board decide to do this, we become the primary respons. We are primarily responsible for prosecuting it. We have to offer proof that this has happened. And I honestly do not know how you could go back and prove that they have charged you too much. So it is my recommendation that we do not enter into this and um let this move forward without us. >> And it's kind of like I was saying, you know, a county like Shelby County, Davidson County, some of those huge school districts, this could run into a lot of money for them. Mhm. >> I mean, but you know, for us, we probably wouldn't recoup the price to prosecute, you know, with what we would get, but we still have to

act if that's what we want to do. Uh, any questions for Miss Coffer? Do I have a motion to uh how we say this to >> No, we got to undo to not enter into this lawsuit. Yeah, I guess the motion needs to be stated. Uh, so I'm going to make a motion that the Trasto County Board of Education does not enter into the uh litigation that uh to recoup losses or textbooks. >> Yes. >> Do I have a second? >> I'll second it in. >> Second by Mr. Atwood. Discussion. All in favor, please say I. I. Any oppose, please say no. >> Okay, >> now let me go back up to the adjourn. Don't know what happened there. >> Anybody got anything else to come before the board? >> I did just want to

say that we are still working on the printal the document for where parents can find out how we release information. I am in the process of um combining everything that was given to me by my administrators. Uh I started typing on that today and we will have that before school starts. >> Yeah. >> Like we talked about the other night, that should go out >> the week before, which would really be about the third week of July, I'm assuming. Right around there. >> Yes, sir. >> I don't have a calendar in front of me, but Sunday that week. And uh um then everyone would be notified if their information is current >> as to how they uh you know as to where and how they can will be notified during the school year for things

like uh weather problems u uh any type of incident. What am I leaving off? um >> just updates >> any any kind of any kind of thing that would >> any type of thing that would that could possibly cause the dismissal of school. >> We talked about putting that in the handbook. Yes. As well. >> Every handbook >> website. Yeah. And then the information she'll send out will let parents know where to go >> for those things. >> I like it. >> Right. And I really like that we let the people who know the most about this have a say in it. >> You have the principles, >> all the all of the administrators um had say in it and wrote something down. And um I'm going through and combining it all from what you

saw the other night to something that's a little more readable. >> Not micromanage no more. >> I do have a question. When does returning student registration? It will open um with the 29th of um June. Okay. That first week of July. Okay. >> Yeah, we talked about that today. It'll be and then they'll have like three weeks or so before they can um school starts. So >> and a new student is they just go to the school. They they >> new students is already up registration. So new students in the county can go right now to our website and register. returning students. And this is something that we are not good at because we're getting better in the habit. But if you are a returning student, you still have to sign up so that the

school knows you're coming or not. And that will be going live like I just said uh June 29th and they will even if you've been here your whole entire school career, you still have to go in and sign up. >> Where does all your current information? Does that get communicated to? >> It's on the website. >> Okay. And of course, any new cell any new numbers, any new emails >> that will come out on the first day of school. There will be a form that goes home to parents uh information sheet to be able to update anything that they need updating. >> Okay. All right. I don't want to run late, but what y'all decide about the 88? >> It's a look at it. You can look at it and if you have any going

to be on the agenda for next month. >> Yes, it will be. >> Yeah. >> But if you have any adjustments or anything, we can adjust it. >> We're going to name a salary, not a range. >> Correct. >> Naming something as a range. >> Yeah. And >> does anybody have anything else to come before the board? You got to >> If not, I would accept a motion to >> adjourn. Do I have a second? Second. >> All in favor? Yeah, I think it's the only thing we talked about was that piece and >> Yeah, I mean was there a
