It is now 7:00 and we do have a quorum present, so we will call this meeting to order. If you would please bow with me and we'll begin with a word of prayer. Holy Father God, we thank you for today and the things that you've richly blessed us with. Dear God, we thank you for the opportunity to serve you on this board and dear God, we pray that you help keep help us keep our kids of the school at the forefront of our decisions that we make. Dear God, help us in our walk each and every day. Dear God, I pray that you forgive us where we fall short of your glory with our sins. In Christ's name that we pray. Amen. Do we have anyone signed up to speak? I'm sure. All right. Next
will be Cardinal Spotlight. >> Um, you know, I I never take the Cardinal Spotlight on my own shoulders all the time. I usually ask people like, "Who who Who do you think we should recognize this month?" And it was pretty overwhelming. Um, our maintenance crew Gilbert's the only one that that's here tonight, but um, him and Alex and and Mike and Jerry. Well, Jerry Jerry's here all the time, but those guys really do a lot of work around here. Um, keep the place in tip-top shape. Um, working all summer. I mean, they've they're doing floors and carpets and waxing and while taking care of the the jungle outside after after the monsoons we've had. Um, but we want to recognize our maintenance crew this month. Just getting everything ready for school to start. As as
it as it gets a little quieter for administration during the summer, that's when it really picks up for those guys. They they do so much um just to prepare for the next year. But we want we appreciate those guys. >> Appreciate all of you. >> Did Did y'all prepare a speech? >> No? >> [laughter] >> Okay. >> [clears throat] >> Superintendent's report. Uh we'll see uh enrollment and attendance this this year to year since we're finally finally have end of year numbers. 251 last year, 265 this year. 94.9 attendance last year, 96 6% this year. Uh we're projected I think Mr. Marrow said projected to start around 270 next year, which is about where we started this year. Um so, but those those that enrollment and those that attendance rate is really helpful for not
having to send as much money back to the state. It's more money we can keep. >> [clears throat] >> Um Financial report's next. Um You'll also see this time this year compared to this time last year. Um We'll start getting into budget stuff for next year over the next month or so. Um and we'll have that um for you in August. Uh next board meeting day, third Monday is July 20th. Um that is also that evening for that training uh in Sweetwater. Um 6:30 training. If all eight are there, it's going to be a it's going to be a 3-hour training. Three to four, but if all eight are there, you'll get 6 hours of team of eight [clears throat] and ISO, which is required every um every 2 years. >> How do we do
that with when we're missing one? >> We'll just sign them in. >> That's a good question. >> I'll find out. >> Okay. So, since that is the night of training is that Monday night, we want to move the board meeting to Tuesday night the 21st. >> Yes. The training just cancels the board meeting. >> Well, we'll probably have to post We'll probably actually have to post an agenda. >> For your board training? >> For board training. That's supposed to be for board training and then we'll need to have a meeting. >> Oh, I thought it was Monday. >> So. Casey, does the 23rd work for you? >> Um possibly. >> Okay. >> I don't know for sure. I'm supposed to be gone that week, but that's all up in the air right now. >> Jared?
>> I don't know yet. >> Okay. Let's go ahead and set that date. And then if things work out to where Casey and or and or Jared can cannot be here, then we'll move it. >> We'll move it over to the 24th. >> Then you have John. >> Yes. >> Still John. >> Right. >> What What time [snorts] is the training? >> Uh at 6:30. >> 6:30 p.m. >> It's at Sweetwater. >> Uh we'll get everybody registered. The short bus. You take the van. >> [laughter] [snorts] >> Do you have anything going on there? >> That is That is all I have. >> Okay. >> Uh principal's report. >> Okay. We have gotten star scores back. Um fifth grade science and eighth grade science, the state is still pending the numbers for it, but this
is kind of what we preliminary think it was and what it was last year, so this could change a little bit. The TEA, they can't get all their ducks in a row before they send stuff out. They just send it like, "Well, we'll think on this." So um the far two columns, that's just the meets for last year and this year. So when kids are testing approaches is they pass and they don't take it again, then there's meets, then there's masters. So our goal is to get every kid to masters or meets cuz in our formula they are at grade level or above grade level. So our goal is to get every kid to meets, not just pass. Um so when you look at that from last year to this year, our scores overall have
gone up even in the meets category, which is good. Um but if you look at the 2026 scores, uh green is there's been an increase, uh orange is it's within a kid or a couple percentage points. Um and then yellow is that one's gone down from previous years. So as a rule, they've gone up over the five years uh four years that we've been here. Um so putting all this into the formula with our graduation rate, CCMR and everything, we are projected to be a B-rated campus, which is as far as I can go back and look since we've been having this formula, we've never been a B. It's been a C or a D. So this is the first time to be a B-rated campus, so teachers have done a great job, staff done
a great job. So if you see them, appreciate them. It is a team effort to get to that and that's something to be celebrated. It really is. Um you know, we always want to do better, but I think we got to celebrate the the milestones that we did get to. So. Any questions on that? Okay. Um staff. Every We are We're fully staffed right now. Um in elementary, Tressa Stevens who's done math, she's going to go to science social studies for third, fourth, fifth. And I've hired Ashley Arellano for third, fourth, fifth grade math. Um she worked for me at Snyder. She's going to be good. >> She'll be in the math. >> Yeah. She is um She's going to take some training cuz it's a little out of her comfort zone being a little
older, but I think she's going to be really really good. Um We've hired Miss Urban for Ag. She'll have a report here in a minute. Um >> Urban? >> I [snorts] hired Britney Lowe for art for high school elementary art. Um I'm not sure if she'll also do a little assistant coaching. Uh David Anderson's elementary PE, he replaces Coach Lopez. Um he'll be elementary PE and then coaching duties. Um Jackson Zepeda, he replaces Coach Thompson, he'll be high school social studies and coaching duties. And then I hired Rebecca Natividad for junior high math. Um she'll just be teaching. So, she is And we've got a really good set of teachers hired. Um So, it'll be It'll be a good year, I think. So, any questions on that? Okay, that's all I have for the principal's
report. >> Thank you, sir. No representative for the athletic report. Is that >> They've been doing workouts some. >> Yeah, some workouts. >> Yeah. Girls, I think are playing tonight basketball in looking at the some league stuff. They've been doing workouts during the day. So. Getting everybody going and >> Boys are playing on the weekends. >> Playing basketball? >> Mhm. >> Where are they playing next? >> You know? Don't know. They played in the Ruby tournament. >> Saturday. This past Saturday. >> I mean the last Monday and Tuesday they went to Berry Fest. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Before that they went to Monday. So. >> Operations report. >> Yes, it's been really busy. >> [clears throat] >> Got the couple of staff houses ready for coach Anderson to get moved into and then we
got coach Guzman into Lopez's house. Spent about a week on that house replacing water heater. I guess the man lived in the dark. I don't know. Almost had to replace everything. >> Light in the house. It's dark. [laughter] >> He loves us. >> Yeah. >> He's got a really cheap electricity bill. >> I can tell you why. And the knobs. Oh yeah, and the stove had no knobs to light the fire. I I don't know. So, but And then one of the bathrooms he didn't never use but for somehow the drain old cast iron sink rusted all the way through. So, he's like I never even used it. I'm like Okay, well. Of course we got to fix it. But So, we got them up and going. We're currently working on we ripped out all
the the restrooms over at the What's that? The Ag Ag >> Feeding facility. >> The feeding facility over at the Ag building. Putting those restrooms kind of cleaning those up a little bit. Putting new toilets and um sinks and all the things in there, fixing the lights and all that to make it look a little bit more um presentable. Um maybe people would not feel so dirty when they go in there to use the restroom. Um so, working on that and then once we finish that, we'll get back over here on campus and get all the rest of the athletic stuff painted that we didn't get to last year with the locker rooms and training room and coaches' offices and all those things that kind of had the campus wrapped up on painting and then
we are going to install some doors on the bathrooms leading into the um bathrooms out at the ag shop here on campus to try to help secure that a little bit better and help funnel the traffic and be able to So, it's been busy. We did um get calls from J. C. Reynolds um last week. Of course, they closed the doors about 7 8 years years ago, but they still had some equipment that they didn't get rid of. Um we were able to purchase a man lift um from them. Um I've kind of done some research on them and the cheapest one was about $5,000 in worse shape than the one we got. When we got there, I kind of told her, "Hey, I'd like to look at it, see if it's, you know, worth
anything." And I said, "If you was to sell it right now to us, just if you could put a price tag on it." She said $500. So, we gave her 500 bucks. We're going to send it to ASCO in Lubbock and have them completely go through it and get all the cylinders and all that stuff checked out and everything out. But, for 500 bucks and whatever it's going to take to clean it up and then get it safe for people to operate. >> Is this a one-man lift? >> It's just a one single basket straight lift, but it it'll go through doorways and things like that inside and outside, so. >> Yeah, scissor lift. >> Um it's just a pole lift. It just goes straight up. It's a little basket lift. Goes to 28-ft working
height, so. And then on the survey of the facility, um he has a couple of boundaries marked, but he can't for sure pinpoint out exactly where they're supposed to be. Um he said he's having to It's going to take him a little time cuz he's going to have to go through and go off of some of his measurements from some of the other areas that he surveyed. So, he's hoping to have that done. He told me he would try to have it to us by the end of June. So. I think that's it. >> Okay. Thank you, sir. Counseling report. >> So, it's summer's pretty quiet for me. For the most part. Um all official transcripts for seniors that graduated that are going to um college or trade school have been sent off. And Tracy
and I, we've I know she's going to several workshops, team's workshops, and so she brings back special warnings and things that we need to look at in the system. Um so we've we've dabbled with that a little bit and and we'll both be out here tomorrow. So, we're going to fix all of our special warnings that she has. Um the June end-of-course retest starts tomorrow. We have I think four testing tomorrow and one testing Wednesday. And that's it. It's the smallest group of retesters in the summer I think we've ever had. it. >> We had zero in May, April and May cuz everybody passed. >> Yes. It's really good. >> How many are serving agriculture? >> [laughter] >> Um we leave tomorrow to go to area leadership camp and they're registered for state convention in
July. Uh I'm bringing three kids tomorrow. There was supposed to be four, but now I'm down to three. And then I have seven going to state convention with us. So super excited to be here. >> [snorts] >> That's really all I got. >> [laughter] >> Been on the job for 6 days now. >> [laughter] >> Okay. Next on the agenda is discussion item for roof leak options. >> Um I think I got that video I sent where when it rains it just pours and pours. I mean there's nothing stopping the water. Um I've reached out to the folks who did the flat roof. Um the um Duro-Last and they're they're supposed to get us on the schedule to come out. Um cuz one one thing that hasn't been done is gone up from the inside
underneath cuz I think Jerry said it's almost 20-plus foot up there. And we don't we don't have anything to stick up there. >> Our our tallest extension ladder up on the ledge in front of the bleachers, you can sit there and then at almost at the very top, as far as the ladder can you can see about 6 in. So >> Can we lift that up? >> Well, I don't know that that'll I mean it's a pretty good hike up there. So >> So right now we're looking at where I mean we've got to find where it's coming from. I mean uh been in touch with Justin Northcutt about um you know, coming and looking at our metal work to see if there's anything that could be done cuz I mean it's there's obviously something
significant causing just that much water to come in. And they they couldn't tell from the designs and it's been looked at from the top side numerous times over the past 5 or 6 years. Um So hopefully once they get underneath and from the bottom to look at the roof, we'll have some we'll have some better answers. It's just hard to start fixing something that you don't know where where exactly the problem's at. Um and once you do some of those permanent fixes, it's permanent in in my um create more problems by, you know, doing something up to the metal that's already up there. Um whether you, you know, seal it or epoxy it or cover it up. Um but if it's something I mean if it's something small then and we can figure out what
it is, it it might be something that we can address without, you know, doing something uh physically covering it with metal or anything like that. So hopefully we'll have I mean the the Duro-Last company, their parcels are out of um Waco. So they they've been tied up and probably going to get tied up a little bit more with other flooding right now, but um he he said they're going to and I told him I was like, "We need a team. We need the guys out here who's going to who's going to find out what's wrong." So hopefully the next few weeks we'll have at least a direction of, you know, what what's going on. >> Is it still leaking on the home side too? >> No, it just runs on that wall. >> Yeah, it
just seeps through that that brick. Um but that's just yeah, that's just from um it soaking through the the brick and like I don't think the brick hasn't been Only this front side No, this west side's been painted or sealed. Around it hasn't. It's just raw stone. I mean we could we could look at just covering it up with something, sealing it. Just need to figure out where this major signs coming in from. >> All right. Next on the agenda is consider and take possible action >> [clears throat] >> on the approval of the board minutes. I'll make a motion to approve. >> I'll second. >> Motion's been made and seconded to approve the minutes as written. Is there any further discussion? All in favor? I. Okay. Next is to consider and take possible action
on the approval of payment of bills and investment report. >> [clears throat] >> I'll make a motion to approve the bills. I'll second. >> Motion's been made and seconded to approve the bills paid and investment report. Is there any further discussion? All in favor? I. >> [snorts] >> Next is to consider and take possible action to approve GASB local wise policy update 127. >> So, this update uh yeah, this is this is the Cliff Notes version, but it's 441 pages, I believe. But this gets us up to speed after the last legislative session. It It fixes all the current policies and updates them to match what was passed in the spring. There's a lot to receive. A lot. >> I'll make a motion. >> Who? >> I second. >> Motion has been made and seconded
to consider and take possible action to approve the TASB Localized Policy Update 127. [clears throat] Is there any further discussion? All in favor? 5-0. Next is consider and take possible action on a one-year increase for employee insurance contribution. >> Okay. John Williamson brought this up after seeing all our insurance increases. [snorts] And I talked to him this morning and obviously it's it's a board decision, but he he had he had looked at wanting to just have a one-year kind of blanket increase to the school contribution to health insurance. This this chart here shows just the employees that we have on our current health insurance. So, 11 employees were on employee only for that top plan, which the difference in that's $59 a month. So, that one's going up 60 $59 a month. Employee and spouse,
no one was on that plan. Four were on employee and children, that's actually going down $85 a month. Um there was the biggest increases you'll see are employee and family um for that top plan and that bottom plan. Um one's going up $450 a month and one's going up $147.
