Good evening, Mr. President, Dr. Hernandez, board members, Edgewood ISD staff, members of our community, and students. If you have not already, please stand for the
pledge. The presentation of the colors tonight is brought to us by the Brentwood LOTC under the direction of Captain Ralph Mora. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. About face. Honor the Texas flag. I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas, one state under God, one and indivisible. Please remain standing for a moment of silence. Thank you. You may be seated. Thank you, Ms. Blevins. Uh next, we have our Edgewood ISD From Goals to Greatness recognitions by Ms. Lauren Blevins. Go ahead. Thank you, Dr. Hernandez. It is an honor to be here and a privilege to join you tonight as we celebrate the outstanding work taking place here in Edgewood ISD. During tonight's
Goals From Goals to Greatness recognitions, we will highlight individual and collective achievements of our students, staff, and community partners. Each aligned to our district's strategic plan goals and categories and competencies within our leadership definition framework. Together, these recognitions reflect what makes Edgewood proud. Strong leadership, collaboration, and a shared commitment to ensuring that people matter, growth matters, and goals matter. To guide this work, we have developed the Edgewood ISD Leadership Framework, a reflection of our shared commitment to our core values of professionalism, accountability, and communication. The framework is built around three key pillars. People matter, growth matters, and goals matter. Together, they define how we lead, collaborate, and hold ourselves and one another accountable in the pursuit of excellence for every student. Before we dive in, I did want to let everybody know that our state
senator did have to leave. He had to get back to Austin, but he will be back in April, so we will have his recognition for our district at that time. So, moving on. Tonight, we are proud to recognize the leaders of the pack. The outstanding members of the Edgewood ISD family who embody our core values of professionalism, accountability, and communication. And they model the categories and competencies just outlined in our leadership definition framework. Our first honoree is Bomar Oruopa. Assistant Principal at John F. Kennedy High School. Coach O, as the students call him, brings trust and compassion to the JFK school community. Parents say his clear communication builds solid relationships that help students and families be successful. Our second honoree is Eliana Upina, a paraprofessional from Cardenas Early Childhood Center. Her compassion for young students
stands out to co-workers and parents. She can often be found giving students that extra help and support, which allows our youngest students to face the challenges of going to school for the very first Before we invite our honorees forward, let's take a moment to hear directly from them and see why they represent what it means to be a leader of the pack. I was like them. Someone believed in me. Why can't I believe in them? Why can't I encourage my teachers to believe in them? Why can't I encourage my administration to believe in them? Why can't I partner with society and stakeholders to believe in them? These students have talents. They have potentials. They have whatever it takes. We just have to give them access. We just have to set the highest expectation for them.
And the sky will be the limit. >> [music] >> Uh my name is Emmanuel uh Bomar Oruopa. Um I am popularly known as Coach O around Edgewood ISD. I came to Edgewood in November 2012. So, this will be my 14th year. Hi, my name is Eliana Upina. I work for Edgewood for 5 years. I've been actually here at Jose Cardenas for 5 years. [music] I came here with no knowledge, no background about education. Okay? Um Edgewood ISD took a risk on me. They invested in me, sent me to training, coached me up. And [music] by the time I realized what was happening, I understand [music] that this is a fulfillment of a calling in my life. Okay? My educational journey is on purpose. Um I didn't choose education. Education chose me. I actually [music] got
my undergraduate at UTSA in sociology with a minor in psychology. Um I've always wanted to work with children. I started with Child [music] Protective Services, but I wanted something where you begin at the core. And I love children. So, [music] that was just my calling. I wanted to work with children no matter what it may be. And [music] um I chose Edgewood, and this is where it led me. To be um honored in this manner, to even be nominated and chosen, is incredible. I was not expecting it. >> [music] >> But it shows that, wow, my hard work is being shown and appreciated. >> [music] >> And it's not only the students that vote or the administration, it's also parents. And I've actually been here all 5 years, and every year I have a student
and their parent, and I keep in contact [music] every year. I go to their birthday parties. I think [music] um I wonder, oh, how are you doing at this campus? Or do you need any help? Or they just want to stop and [music] see me. This is this honoring is um It's wonderful. It feels good. It feels great. Um but let's not forget one thing. This is not about me. Yes, I'm the one here speaking with you. Yes, I'm the one getting the award. But this award [music] belongs to the whole school. It belongs to the whole campus. From the principal of the school to the custodians who make this place happen. It's a shared effort. Coach O alone can't do anything. I need people to do their job, to do their own responsibility, to
do routine, make us make sure that our students get what they wanted. So, this is not my award. >> [music] >> This is award for JFK High School. It's award for administrative staff. It's award for the teachers. It's an award [music] for our awesome students who in spite of our differences, believe in our vision, listen to us, show up to school every day, even though they're facing insurmountable challenges at home. They leave those things when they walk through the door and walk in here and say, "Sir, I'm here to learn. So, this is award is for everyone. To the police officers that make sure that we're being safe, this award is for them. Yes, personally, I feel good, but I I hope everyone can feel it the same way I feel to [music] know that
it's not an individual award, it's a team effort. I choose Edgewood because [music] the curriculum, the everything, the home, the feeling of being at home, the environment of wanting if you need help, there's always someone there. There'll always be someone there. And it's not only for the students, but also faculty. >> [music] >> We get to develop and advance our skills. And they teach us even when it's just little trainings here and there. Um the parents have their help. It's a It's [music] just an incredible environment to be in. And all the schools and everything that's being offered [music] is incredible. Students are able to be have a trade when they graduate. Or [music] if that's not, you know, something that they want, it's education. And you know, they're big on education. [music] And we
start from little and we go all the way up. And I've noticed that students don't even want to leave [music] because that's how incredible it is. I choose Edgewood because there's only two options. Edgewood and others. Others don't reflect resilience, community, perseverance, determination. Edgewood does. Others don't believe in me. Edgewood did. You know what it means to pick a kid out of the streets with zero experience about education and say, I will gamble on you. And I mentioned again, I admire everyone from a classroom assistant teacher aide to a teacher to a state recognized NAEYC mentor [music] master teacher tonight campus administration. It takes a lot of resources, finances, manpower, coaching. I didn't do it on my own. Edgewood did. Will our leaders of the pack please join us up front to be honored. >>
[applause] >> Ladies and gentlemen, Coach Joe and Miss Medina are March Leaders of the Pack. And let's give them one more round of applause. >> [applause] >> Next, we are proud to recognize students who excel on the stage and the classroom at the Edgewood Fine Arts Academy. Sarah Montes, Sarahi Macias, Ruby Sanchez, Samantha Torres, and Jackson Owens have all been named Texas Thespians by the Texas Thespians. Texas Thespians distinction honor honors, excuse me, are for high school students who maintain high grade point averages, actively participate in their school's theater program, and show good character. Please join us as we congratulate these students and their theater teacher, Ms. Claudia Castro, who I believe is still here. Yes. On this outstanding achievement. Congratulations. And as they shake hands with the board, we would also like to celebrate
the trouble small ensemble from the Fine Arts Academy. Yari Angeli Zacosta, Samantha Torres, Natalia Luna, and Carlie Hernandez earned first place at the Junior League of San Antonio Fame Awards recently. Their exceptional performance secured a $2,000 grant for the Fine Arts Academy. >> [applause] >> Edgewood ISD is home to talented artists of all kind. Tonight, we would like to highlight JFK senior, Dionne Rodriguez. Her artwork has advanced to the Texas Art Education Association's 2020 State Visual Arts Scholastic Event. It is a big word to say an amazing art contest. It's also known as VASE. This achievement represents the pinnacle of success within the VASE program. The state event will be held next month in San Marcos. Please join me in congratulating her and her art teacher, Mr. Cooper, who I believe is still here, on
this achievement. >> [applause] >> And the image you see next to her photo on the graphic is the art that will go to state. Last month, you may remember we recognized 24 JFK students who competed in the state Business Professionals of America contest. Tonight, we are proud and excited to recognize Storm Lopez and Akiaf Trujillo, who will will represent JFK and Edgewood at BPA Nationals this year. >> [applause] >> Ms. Lopez will compete in Fundamental Word Processing, and Mr. Hio will compete in Fundamental Desktop Publishing. These two young ladies and their coaches, Eric Martinez, Veronica Cassiano, and Anita Castillo, will travel to Nashville for BPA Nationals in May. This evening, we would also like to elevate that Edgewood will be sending teams from five schools to the State Destination Imagination contest. These teams advanced to
the state finals by competing in different challenges in STEM, improv, fine arts, and service learning. They will compete at the University of Texas at Arlington in April. Teams who advance from the state finals can earn a spot in the global finals, which will be held later this year in Kansas City, Missouri. So, once we get our global qualifiers, we'll bring them in. >> [applause] >> And Goals to Greatness recognizes students who are raising the bar. Students can accomplish great things when they are able to get to school safely. That is why we are proud to partner with the City of San Antonio Vision Zero program for the Safe Routes to School initiative. At this time, I would like to invite members from the City of San Antonio forward to talk about the program and our
most recent celebration. And Lauren, as they're coming up, I also would like to recognize Mr. Jonathan Torres from our operations department, as well as Joey Naho, I don't know if he's still in here. Uh they're the ones who've been interfacing with this group in terms of setting this work up. Uh they started at Lomac Park uh year or two ago, and then now it's extended over to Roosevelt. And so, I'll stop there before I steal your thunder. No, no, absolutely. And I was definitely going to thank you, Dr. Hernandez. I was going to definitely going to recognize those guys, and I wanted to give them a round of applause because they were integral in all of this. And yeah, forgive me for that picture. Uh I am wearing an LSU shirt, so you you don't
hit me for that. Uh but yeah, we greatly appreciate not necessarily the recognition, but definitely the support that you guys have offered us. And just to let you guys know that Safe Routes to School is a program that is designed to increase the number of students that walk and bike to school. And we do this for several reasons, one of which is to decrease the number of vehicles that are in the carpool lane. One, to decrease the emissions around the school and the pollution that's around our students. Uh another reason is I think one of Dr. Hernandez's favorite, and that's to increase the exercise that our students get. Uh that increases their health, that increases their self-esteem, that increases their self-confidence, that increases attendance, that increases the overall well-being of the student. Um we also
do this by education. Uh want to recognize one of our education coordinators, Carla Rodriguez. Uh she works with these students hands-on by teaching them roadway safety, and she works with them to show them how what roadway infrastructure works. She shows them how to act in vehicles, and strap on seat belts, and things of that nature. We also uh go around the areas of schools and look at infrastructure. We look at roadway and sidewalk connectivity, what things that we can do around the area to make things safer, uh what infrastructure we might be able to install to make things safer around the school. So, uh bottom line, we appreciate the support that Edgewood has given us because without that support and that partnership, we couldn't do what we do. We need the support of the administration
of schools. We need the support of principals of these schools. More importantly, we need the support of parents. Because without you and the support of getting your kids involved and active, uh we can't do this alone, but uh with these partnerships and getting your kids involved, uh we can make a difference and expand this program to not just Loma Park, not just Roosevelt, but throughout the city. So, again, we thank you for being recognized, and we thank you for all the support and partnership that you've given us. So, thank you. So, parents, if your school has not yet hosted a bike to school event, and you want one, let your principal know, and we will work with the city to make one happen at your campus. Okay. So, right now, the Memorial High School boys
soccer team is about 32 minutes into their next game in their state playoff run. The team is playing Austin Achieve this evening. They kicked off at 7:00. Uh they are in the area round, so this is the third round of playoffs, I believe. Please join us in wishing them good luck tonight, and we will keep you posted on how they do. But this evening, we do have national champions joining us. Over spring break, the JFK cheerleading squad took the stage at the MCDA cheer and dance championships. They didn't just compete, they came out on top, winning their divisional championship. So, ladies and gentlemen, we have national champions with us. Joining us to represent the squad are captain Iliana Ramirez and co-captain Marco Garcia, and squad sponsor Ms. Andrade is here as well, I believe. She
is back here. All right, let's give it up for JFK cheerleaders. Congratulations. And we have more great news coming out of JFK tonight. We would like to share some news about a young man who's been a leader on the Rockets football team. Senior Daniel Enriquez has signed his national letter of intent to attend and play football at Schreiner University located in Kerrville, Texas. Daniel's parents tell us that playing college football has been a dream of his since he was 4 years old. So, we are proud to celebrate his accomplishment and his realization of a lifelong dream. >> [applause] >> Now to our CTE spotlight. Each month, we highlight the wide range of career and technical education opportunities available to students across Edgewood. This evening, we're turning our focus to the teaching and learning program at
Memorial. This is a program designed for students who are interested in shaping the next generation. Participants gain firsthand experience in a classroom leadership while exploring what it means to be an educator. And Edgewood ISD takes it one step further with a very powerful commitment. Students who complete their teaching certificate and choose to return to Edgewood will have a job with us. Take a moment now to see the impact of the teaching and learning program at Memorial High School. >> [music] >> And if you are interested in learning more about the teaching and learning program, please contact Ms. Cynthia Ramirez de Lopez at Memorial. Or if you would like more on any of our CTE programs, please talk to Mr. Javier Urena, the director of CTE for Edgewood. And the teaching and learning program celebrated a
very big milestone. Last week, the program celebrated their very first hire from the future teachers program. It's Ana E. Gonzalez. She is currently serving in a support role at Stafford VPA, and looks forward to becoming a bilingual classroom teacher with plans one day to become a school counselor. All right, taking you around some events and great things that have happened over the last couple weeks. Um first of all, we want to say thank you to Mosaic Church volunteers who came and refreshed Loma Park Elementary with new garden updates. You can see the before and afters up there. And a makeover of the teachers lounge. They added some lights, fresh paint, kind of dressed it up for our teachers. Their generosity and hands-on service are making a meaningful difference on our campus. We're grateful for their
time, dedication, and continued support of our schools. The Ascend music program hosted a student orchestra concert at Stafford Visual and Performing Arts Elementary. As the education arm of the San Antonio Orchestra, Ascend teaches students how to play instruments, and also how music can inspire confidence and open doors for their future. Gardendale Early Childhood Center unveiled a new book box, encouraging families to take a book to enjoy at home or leave one for someone else. It is a very simple way to spark a love of learning across their community. Students in the Fine Arts Cosmetology program offered free haircuts and manicures to community members ages 55 and older last week. The event was standing room only, and gave guests a fresh spring look while helping students earn hours towards their certifications. Burleson School for Innovation and
Education welcomed families to Burleson Market Days, where students showcased the school's innovative programs for learners of all ages and abilities. At Memorial, students in the Health Science CTE program hosted a hands-on Health Science Fair. They demonstrated key skills, and even created a tabletop operation game to help students practice organ removal in a fun, educational way. Edgewood students sampled potential new cafeteria menu items during the district's nutrition awareness fair. The EISD nutrition team also shared tips on healthy eating and food sustainability. Las Palmas Leadership School for Girls welcomed the Great Minds team to campus, where they heard directly from students and teachers about the positive impact of the program's support and resources. And finally, last but not least, our rummage event was a huge success. Families collected free clothes, shoes, games, diapers, and so much more.
Many items brand new in the bag with tags still on them. One lucky guest even got a Christmas tree to take home to put up for next year. As a reminder, enrollment is open. You can find enrollment information on the enrollment pages at EISD.net and throughout our social media. You'll also see the street banners around town. They should be going up this week, so be on the lookout for those. You'll see posters at our campuses with a new QR code that will take you right to the registration page. And now, we would like to share our brand new social media video that will be going out on socials in the morning. Are you ready? Ready, set, go. And a huge thank you to our kindergarteners at HBG Elementary for being in our video. And you
will see that tomorrow on socials. So, if you follow us, which I hope you do, please share and help us reach more people. And now, we would like to share our Edgewood is making positive headlines in the news. Earlier this month, both KSAT 12 and KENS 5 covered the haircut fundraiser by the Fine Arts class of 2026. Students provided $5 haircuts for students. And then KSAT 12 also covered the EISD Special Olympics Track and Field Meet. You can find both of these stories and the video that goes with them on the Marketing and Communications page at EISD.net. There's my contact information. Again, the Edgewood socials. Please give us a like. Please give us a follow. Thank you, Dr. Hernandez, Mr. President, trustees, Edgewood trust Edgewood members of the community, and appreciate it. Thank you, Ms.
Livens. All right. And now, we move to our communication from citizens. uh we're going to skip the the long thing, but we're going to put it Can y'all put it up briefly? The um what Frank normally reads, Mr. Mendoza reads. You know what I'm talking about or no? He's looking for it. There it is. Just briefly, and then we'll we'll start it. Okay. Our first speaker is Ms. uh Agapita Jaramillo. Speaking on item 8C. Thank you, sir. Good afternoon, Board of Trustees, Superintendent, leadership team, and community. I'm here today to address item 8C. I would like to state that I am very disappointed that we are not looking into partnering with an out-of-state organization to try and correct our failures. When we committed to all these innovations, we did not receive a guarantee of success.
But now that our schools are failing, let's just dump it to someone else. No, absolutely not. We need to focus on tailoring to our campuses and not a district as a as a whole. We are too busy worrying about losing teachers instead of demanding progress and getting the manpower to reach out to these students. These middle school students are our COVID kids. They were already struggling coming back because they missed out on crucial on a crucial education. So, why did you not get additional staff such as paraprofessionals to do pull-outs and and want to do one-to-one instruction? I am not an expert, but common sense will tell you that that's what these students need to catch up. Why not bring back IGA? Bring back the traditional school and get these students the help they need,
and you'll get the school back on track. We are too busy trying to keep our teachers happy instead of worrying about our students. We are bringing in administrators to our leadership team straight from the classroom. Now, is this fair? I am proud to say that I had a mother that was a bilingual teacher here in Edgewood years ago, and site-based decision-making was allowed. And guess what? She would bring up those students lacking the skills. She would bring up those students that were three grade levels behind. So, what is the problem? Let's not bring someone to solve our problem. Let's take care of it ourselves. If in and out, that's our that's our consequence for failing our kids. A few years ago, we were given the first opportunity of school choice and innovative campuses. And now,
due to the lack of progress progress, our choices are limited. Again, we have failed as a district. Board members, think clearly with your brain and not your heart. Consider taking responsibility and being accountable to the community. And I want to say, you know, our our kids aren't aren't walking around with a dollar sign stamped on their forehead. Yes, it's about money. Yes, we get money from this partnership, and we get federal grants. But we should be working on finding the money within our district and working on making making our our kids successful. Our kids are not getting paid. They were really suffered enough for 3 years. You know, we didn't have a guarantee, but now I saw the video, and they said, "Oh, within a year, we should see progress." Well, okay. It's a done
deal because we're not going to allow TEA to come in and do a a turnover. So, if they're going to come in, you are going to allow that, and they're going to come in, then we need to monitor this very carefully. And within that year, if there is not that guarantee, that 1.7% increase or whatever was quoted, then we at that point there needs to be a breach of contract. We need to just be on top of it. Thank you very much. Thank you, ma'am. Uh next, Ms. Melody Arredondo, speaking on item 8C. My name is Melody Arredondo, and I am here tonight to speak against the proposal to hand over Brentwood Middle School to Third Future Schools, a charter school from Louisiana. Let me say this clearly. This did not happen overnight, and it
did not happen by accident. What we are seeing today is a result of years of instability, lack of direction, and decisions made without the community. Brentwood did not fail our students. The system failed Brentwood, and you oversee this education system. And instead of taking responsibility, instead of investing in our teachers, our leadership, and our families, you are choosing to hand over our school over to someone else. This is not a solution. This is passing the problem. Families are asking simple questions. Where was the support when our school needed it? Where was the plan? Where was the accountability? Because now, after years of decisions being made without us, you are asking us to trust another major change. One that directly impacts our children, our teachers, and our community. What happened with Friends of P-TECH? Let's be
honest. The same leadership that led us here is now asking us to believe this will fix it, and our families are not convinced. Our students are the ones who live with this decision. Our teachers are the ones who will carry the impact. And our community is the one being asked to accept it. This is not fair, and it is not right. Our community has paid attention. Families are organizing, and accountability is coming come November. Because our children deserve better. They deserve stability. They deserve strong leadership that holds leadership accountable. They deserve a board that fights for their schools, not one that gives them away. Not one that silences community. Do not pass these items. Do not give away Brentwood. Invest in our schools. Stand with our community. And take responsibility. You've already heard the presentation
before, and if this board approves to give away our school, that is wrong. You are impacting a vulnerable community, and shame on you if you vote to approve this. Yes, I'm not naive. It's being handed down by TEA, but y'all should have taken preventative measures 3 years ago when you saw the first step. What happened? No, you're just letting the superintendent do whatever he wants to do, not holding him accountable. Hold your superintendent and administration accountable. Thank you, ma'am. Um Ms. Sylvia Soto, are you here? So, I don't know if you were here earlier, but the the topic didn't include an agenda item. So, I I can't I can't have you speak for public comment. Okay. Uh Mr. Cruz, do y'all want to address this one again? Uh Ms. Soto wasn't here earlier. It's It
was the same from earlier. She put closure of schools in the topic, but that's not an agenda item. No, there's no closure of schools. SB 18 does not have a closure of schools. So, that topic is not on the agenda under the board policy that they have, BE local, specifically says that if you're going to speak at a board meeting, whether it's a special called workshop or regular board meeting, it has to be on an item that is on the agenda. So, therefore, because that item school closure is not on the agenda, it's not proper for a public comment. Okay. Thank you, sir. And that is all of our public comments. So, Dr. H, you're going to skip your report? Okay. Yes, sir. Given given the time tonight, I am going to forgo my superintendent's
report. I'll bring it back next month. >> Okay. Thank you, sir. And now we move to our consent agenda. As per board policy BE local, unless a board member makes a motion to withdraw an item for individual consideration, and such motion receives a second and is passed by the majority of those present, all consent agenda items shall be acted upon by one vote without separate discussion. At this time, we move to our consent agenda. Is there a motion to approve the consent agenda items A through I? Mr. President. >> Yes, sir. I move to approve the agenda items 5A through I. Mr. Valdez motions. Is there a second? Second. Mr. Delgado seconds. Is there any discussion? If we have no discussion, all those in favor, raise your hand and say I. I. >> I. All
those opposed, raise your hand and say nay. All those abstaining, raise your hand and say abstain. The motion carries. Oh, thank you. Okay, sir. We do have an action item today. Yes, sir. As I'm I'm explaining this item up, I'm going to call our chief of schools, Mr. Travis McMurray, up to the podium. Board, this is a recommendation that I wanted you to consider for tonight for out-of-state travels. You saw earlier, we did highlight two of our students that have now reached attendance at the Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, May 6th through the 10th. I am making a recommendation per policy that you do approve their travel to that state. This is for general community. The board is the only one who has the authority to grant leaving the state.
The superintendent I can approve anything in the state, but outside, it will be the board. And that recommendation is being made tonight. And so, if you have any questions, we'll take them at this time. Thank you, sir. Any questions from the board? So, this is approving or the the trip to Nashville, Tennessee, correct? Do we already have or do you know if the the kids already have the where they're staying? Do we have a chaperone going to attend with them and all that? Yes, sir. We had And not to answer more than just your question. The answers to all your questions are yes. We have hotel accommodations taken care of. We have two adult chaperones, two of our teachers that are going, male and female, for both of our young ladies who qualified for nationals.
We took 24 students to the state competition on March the 5th and 6th. And so, that is the reason why we're taking this to the board uh without previous communication because we just got the amazing news that two of our 24 kids at Kennedy uh qualified for nationals. Super proud of them. And so, you saw them tonight being recognized. Those are the two individuals that'll be going May 6th through the 10th Nashville, Tennessee. Okay. Thank you. I know this would be a simple question, but I'm pretty sure they're they're as far as their attendance will be counted correctly as that's what I'm >> yes, they're in school function. They they won't be counted absent. Thank you, sir. Mr. Valdez. I want to ask In terms of funding for this trip, would it be coming from
the campus, split with the district? How would that look like? The our CTE department is supporting this trip through CTE funding. Thank you. Yes, sir. All right. Any other questions? All those I'm sorry. Is there a motion to approve the out-of-state travel for two John F. Kennedy High School Business Professionals of America students who advanced to the National Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, on May 6th through 10th, 2026? Mr. President, I approve the state travel. Thank you, sir. Mr. Delgado motions. Is there a second? Second. Mr. Valdez seconds. Is there any discussion? There's no discussion. All those in favor, raise your hand and say I. I. >> I. All those opposed, raise your hand and say nay. All those abstaining, raise your hand and say abstain. The motion carries. Awesome. Next, we move to the
our closed session. Mr. Cisneros has a motion. Is there a second? So moved. Mr. Delgado seconds. Is there any discussion? Uh, for me Go ahead. The discussion that I really wanted to say is um it's like kind of the process. Um, my my vote's not like that I don't think they can excel this work, but it's just like the process like and how we're like uh, transparency because like for us uh, like even for me, I didn't see the contract until when we went to executive session. And like there was still stuff I
wanted to look over, but this that would take a lot of time. But that's why my my vote will reflect as like the process. And also like um, also like this is kind of the only option that the state gives us, so I really don't like that. There really should be other options how to turn around campuses. So, yeah. Thank Thank you, sir. Um, Miss Celina, I I just have one more question before we vote on this one. And I'll I'll make this simple. Um The last question I had earlier, [clears throat] I don't think Oh, there he is. Um, is just how how are we just very simple? Like how are we going to hold um, if we do approve it, how are we going to hold Third Future accountable? Yes, sir. Um, the
operating partner will be held accountable to clear performance objectives that are laid out in the contract. There will also be frequent monitoring, quarterly visits, and as you heard, um, Zach has an open door policy. Thank you, ma'am. Go ahead. Yeah. I also wanted to I know you did mention Zach at the SASD board meeting about, um, how you you you expressed to your board interest in adding a seat, um, to I believe their board in the San Antonio area. So, if you if you can explain that. Yes, sir. So, um, excuse [clears throat] me, yesterday I did talk with our tech board president president Conrad Foreman and I did ask him if he gauges interest in adding We have a five-man board right now, bending that to seven, to add a seat representing the Nintendo
area as well as the Wichita Falls area. They have schools there now. He agreed to do that. Um, so my next step is is to figure out how to do that. How do I gauge interest and then, um, you know, our board is appointed board. So, I would need to collect resumes of those interested, get it to the TFFS tech board. They would ultimately have the decision on who process of doing that. And I also wanted to ask, um, like, um, cuz I know like y'all probably meet maybe in person, but like how accessible are y'alls, um, board meetings? Like cuz I know like we have other operating partners. Uh, some of them do them in person, some of them in person and virtual. So, what do y'all do? So, we have the Texas board
meeting every month except for July, December. So, we meet at nine Um, three of those meetings are in-person meetings. The board decides which this TFFS pays for travel. All right, thank you. All right, if there's no other discussion, all those in favor, raise your hand and say "Aye." Aye. Aye. All those opposed, raise your hand and say "Nay." No. All those abstaining, raise your hand and say "Abstain." Okay, motion carries. Is there a motion regarding item 8D? Mr. President, I move to approve an operating agreement with Third Future Schools Texas to operate Brentwood Middle School and the Brentwood Middle School Excuse me. And to authorize the superintendent to execute the agreement. Okay, Mr. Espinoza motions. Is there a second? So moved. Mr. Delgado seconds. Is there any discussion? If we have no discussion, is all
those in favor, raise your hand and say "Aye." Aye. Aye. All those opposed, raise your hand and say "Nay." No. All those abstaining, raise your hand and say "Abstain." Okay, motion carries.
