We will now have the recognition of the teacher the students of the month. Mr. Riley, come on up, sir. Thank you, sir. Mr. welcome. [clears throat] Mr. Shodrock, Dr. Gilstrap, members of the board, it is my privilege to present these fine people to you on behalf of Fzo Middle School. >> I am very pleased to present first of all our first Florida Middle School student of the month, Justin Leeman. Justin is an eighth grader and he has been a student of Floresville ISTD his entire scholastic career having attended Floresdale South Elementary. Justin has one older sister who is currently in nursing school. He is currently taking a very challenging slate of classes
007including honors English, algebra, honors US history and honors science. He is also active in boys athletics and in addition to algebra is taking two other classes for high school credit, art one and principles of health science. Even with this heavy course load, Justin has maintained an almost perfect A average. Justin is an athlete as well as a scholar. He is currently a member of the eighth grade A team basketball squad. [clears throat] Outside of school, Justin likes fishing and farm work. He's also very proud of the fact he just shot his first year this year, a 10-pointer, in case you're giving trash. As Justin moves on to Floresville High School next year, he's looking forward to financial math class and the construction classes. He's considering working with HVAC or becoming a firefighter as a future
008career. The one thing Justin would like you really know about him is that he is passionate about putting his all into everything he does. Justin is an exceptional student and athlete with a bright future and I am pleased to present him to you as the Floresville Middle School student of the month. [applause] >> [clears throat] >> I'm also very pleased to present the other worthy selectee as Forzville Middle School student of the month, Giana Craig. Gianna started at Forsville North Elementary and has been a student at Forsville Independent School District her entire school life. She is the youngest in her family with an older brother and older sisters. Giana is enrolled in honors classes in English language arts, science, and US history, as well as high school credit courses in algebra and art one. She's
009also in athletics and does a phenomenal job as an aid in our front office. It's indicative of her hard work that Giana, even with this challenging course load, has maintained a straight A average. Giana says her favorite class is algebra because she likes that it is challenging. Her ability to step up to a challenge is certainly demonstrated in her membership of the eighth grade basketball a team. She even finds time outside of school to study taekwond do in which she currently holds a secondderee black belt. After graduating from high school, Giana plans to pursue a degree in business and finance. It is her goal to become a real estate agent and own her own firm. The one thing Gianna would like you to know is that she used to be very timid, but she's learned
010to speak out in public because of sports and giving speeches in school. Gianna is a fine young lady and an outstanding representative of our school and our district. I am honored to present Giana to you as a Floresville Middle School student of the month. [applause] And now the teacher of the month. I am privileged to introduce you to the Floresville Middle School teacher of the month, Deborah Labrada. Miss Labrada has been a teacher for 26 years, 17 of those here in Florville Independent School District. She's an exceptional member of our middle school math team and provides support to both students and staff as the support facilitator for 7th grade math. Miss Labrada has a husband is the proud mother of three children, the youngest of which is a student at the University of Texas. Outside
011of school, she loves to garden. Miss Labrada says that she came to Forzo Middle School and fell in love with the kids. She likes that they're discovering their future and they be can be guided to their better selves. In addition to her exceptional skills as a math teacher, Miss Labrada is certified in special education and English as a second language. She's also an active proponent of our campus university intercolastic league academic team, sponsoring math, calculator skills, and dictionary skills. One of Miss Lebrona's co-workers described her as positive, perseverant, and selfless. She also said that Miss Lebrona can be counted on to always do what is best for students, and I can think of no higher calling for a teacher. Miss Lebron is an outstanding educator and a critical member of our team. It is my
012privilege to present her to you as the Floresville Middle School teacher of the month. [applause] We do have something from the Lions Club that they would like to come up and make a little presentation to our students and teacher of the month. >> Thank you, Miss Reed, for being here. >> You're welcome. The uh Lions Club, we wanted to honor y'all because it's a lot of hard work and your students are doing magnificent stuff with your classes. >> Okay. It is. >> This is a small gift or a token of and we're so very proud of you. Thank you. >> [snorts] >> Thank you. Brave middle school. [applause] Oh, get this too is yours. >> Justin, this is yours. >> So, Justin, on behalf of the board, I want to say congratulations. makes us proud
013sitting up here to see how hard y'all work. Y'all don't just take the easy classes. Y'all do the hard stuff and y'all are excelling at it. Keeping straight A's. It's not easy to do. So, we're very proud of that. And to do all the sports y'all do taekwond do, I won't be messing with you. [laughter] That's good. And Justin, where'd you shoot that deer? Did you shoot behind the house close to my place? [laughter] >> I'm very proud of you, Miss Lamrada. It warms my heart that you are that passionate of a teacher and just love our kids and fell in love with them and are still here and we're so very proud to have you. So I want to thank you for all your work on behalf of the board. Thank you. >> Thank
014you. [applause] Thank you real quick. Okay. One, two, three. One more just in case. One, two, three. >> Parents, y'all come on up. >> Oh, yeah. >> Must take one real quick and then we'll let the parents take pictures. Step back. Oh, good. Just going to let >> Okay. Do you want to take pictures? >> I mean to take pictures. Yeah. Stand take pictures. I'm sorry. [laughter] >> It's all right. >> There you go. [clears throat] >> Thank you. Congratulations. >> Thank you. >> Shaking the 14 right there. Congratulations. Thank you so much for shaking her hand. Congratulations. 10 pointer. [laughter] >> Congratulations. >> This guy. >> Thank you, sir. >> Thank you very much. I was kind of let >> Justin congratulations. See you later. [snorts] >> All right. Well, next we'll have a
015recognition for our Texas Association of Future Educators. Miss Wallace, we'll let you take it from here. They are >> good. Well, hello everyone. Um, we would first like to start by thanking you guys. Uh, because we know without your support, these big expensive overnight trips are not possible at all. So, this year, Taffy, our statewide theme was blooming in the Garden of Education. So, we've brought you all a plant to take home with you um to thank you guys for helping us bloom. >> They are damp on the bottom. I'm sorry. >> Um the next thing I would like to say is I don't know if any of you guys are aware, we had a little bit of a transportation debacle while we were there. The white bus 250 just I don't know. They said
016it like blew a pulley and it messed up a bunch of stuff on its way out. We were leaking oil for about a h 100red yards. Um thankfully we were on a city street and not the freeway cuz I might have been terrified. Um but our transportation department was so so quick in getting us drivers up there to like take care of us and they were amazing. Super super sweet guys. Jesse and Jeremy were the two that came up to get us. Um and so we were super super appreciate appreciative of our transportation department. Um, so now I would like to introduce our kiddos. >> Thank y'all for working with East Central, TOO. >> OH MY GOSH. YES. I That's here and I meant to say it. East Central, they came in clutch. Thank god
017I'm friends with the teacher over there, the Taffy teacher, because they had three minivans and they came and picked us up. We were like stranded in a Bank of America parking lot for a little bit. [laughter] It was okay. The girls made the best of it. They were singing and, you know, being girls. >> They're teachers. They will adapt. >> It's a real life experience. >> Yes, [laughter] absolutely. Um, so this year we had 10 competitors go to state. Um, two of them could not be here with us tonight. I will still introduce them. I have my list just so I don't forget anybody. Um, so our first kiddo is Khloe Asencio. Um, and you may recognize her. She's been here before. She has competed in Taffy for us for three years. She has made
018it to state every single year. Um, and she has made it to nationals twice. This year she branched out and did something a little different. Um, she did job interview. Um, and that was quite possibly the biggest competition. Um, at state we had, I think they said 3,755 competitors at TAPY. That's the biggest conference we've ever had. Um, so there was a lot of competition. Um, next we had Binley Bags. She is a two-time competitor, two-time state qualifier. I took her to nationals last year, too. Um, and she competed in public speaking at the state level also. Uh, next we have Alexia Bosquez. She also competed in job interview. Her and Chloe were kind of going against each other. But like I said, I think what did we count girls? I think it was like
01960some kids were in that competition. So it was pretty steep. Uh next we have Lucy Benvitas. She's not here. She unfortunately had to work this evening. Um but she competed in a group event researching learning challenges where they had to research um how hearing impairment affects kids in the classroom. And then her partners in that were Marisa Rodriguez. Um, and Marica was a double competitor. She competed in researching learning challenges and she competed in children's literature Spanish. So her and her partner Evelyn Flores, they had the cutest little book titled Laendita. Yes. About little like Mexican candies and they're trying to like figure out like why they have flaws and how they can like accept themselves with their flaws. It was really really sweet. Oh, I should have had y'all brought it. [laughter] I don't
020know why. I just thought about that. >> Oh, we should have had y'all bring it. Hello. [laughter] I'm nervous. >> I told y'all I was nervous [laughter] before you came in. >> Um, the next one who is not here is Miley Bowers. She also had to work this evening. Um, she's a four-time competitor, two-time state qualifier, and she competed in exploring noncore teaching careers. So, she did a presentation on one of our a teachers at the high school. Um, and then my last three are going to be our nationals, um, our national finalists. So, we have Elena Garcia and Christy McDevit. They competed in children's literature. Um, and they wrote a book, Lily's Petals of Emotions. Yes. Okay. I wanted to make sure I got it right. Lily's Petals of Emotions. And it's a little
021flower. She's again kind of like the other book, kind of struggling to find herself and she meets all of these people along the way and they give them they give her one of their pedals until she like figures out who she is. Um, it is super super great. They competed against 40 no 53 competitors and they ranked in the top 10. They were four points away from a perfect score. They did amazing. Um, they are first time competitors for me too. This is their first time doing it. They made it to state and now they've made it to nationals also. Um, and then our last is senior cadence mom. So, she has been here before, too. She's a three-time state qualifier and now two times national qualifier um for creative lecture and she has a
022really fantastic speech. Um, if you ever want to hear it, let me know. We can set her up in the classroom and y'all can come hear it because it's pretty fantastic. She competed against 40 competitors and she was actually given the judges choice award which we're not supposed to know but we do know means that she got first place. So um we are super super proud of all of these guys. They did so amazing and despite the hiccups I think we had a pretty great [laughter] time. >> So I think so. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Congratulations. >> Yes. Um young ladies. So such an amazing group of young ladies. um you know from doing the interviews, the public speaking, um writing these books, I know we would all love to hear them. I would love
023to to be able to read those books and to listen to your speech. We're very proud of you. Um you exhibit everything that you know FIC stands for, the character, knowledge, and confidence, and we really appreciate all that you do to go out there and and set this shining example uh for our school district, but also everything that you're doing. um you know towards uh education. Education is is a field where we're losing a lot of teachers I [clears throat] think to our field. We've always got vacancies and to have young people who are already exhibiting uh this desire to be a part of education is just truly a big blessing. So thank you all for all you do. We're very proud of you. >> Thank you. [applause] real quick. >> God, thank you. Congratulations.
024I know. Wow. [laughter] >> Thank you so much. Miss Petri, do we have any the public comments this evening? >> Yeah. Uh, now we will have the superintendent report by Dr. Gilstra. >> Uh, yes. Board members included in the packet as superintendent report. First of all, I just want to thank all the board members uh for making arrangements um back in February to go to uh the ISO training. It was really good to have everybody go together, spend some time together. Uh most importantly, all board members got to knock out that newly required training and also we knocked out our team of eight. So, uh it was great. I want to once again thank you all for making arrangements on a Sunday afternoon to step away from your family and and spend some time getting
025those things done uh for the district. Uh this summer, uh TASBY SLI will be held on June the 11th and 12th. So please mark your calendars. Uh this is a great opportunity for board members to receive the remaining required continuing education hours while getting the network from schoolboard members from all across the state. So please let Alyssa know if you're going to be able to attend. Uh she'll complete that registration once it opens up in April. So if you're planning to attend SLI June 11th and 12th, make sure you let her know so we get registered. As previously communicated, uh a calendar recommendation was supposed to be included in this month's uh calendar agenda. However, during the last update and through some previous surveys, the idea of a calendar divided by semesters was brought up.
026So, the administration did develop multiple calendars and presented those to the calendar committee of teachers. Uh that idea got a lot of positive traction, positive feedback. So therefore, we felt it was important to gather some more feedback from staff and families prior to making any kind of recommendation for the calendar for next school year. So at this time, a survey is currently open for families and staff members to provide feedback. There are two options. Option one is similar to this year. Option two has uh a more traditional fall semester and then in the spring semester would be Fridays off. So those are the big big differences between the two calendars. So, we encourage everybody to get out and fill out that uh survey if you have not already done so. Uh we just want to
027make sure we're getting as much feedback as we can as we include that in our recommendation for uh the month of April. So, we'll have our calendar approval on the April agenda. The spring schedule events has been pro provided at your desk. You'll notice some of the items are listed in blue. Uh please RSVP with Alyssa for those. Those are some bigger events and they also may or may not require um meals and RSVP so they get headcounts and some of those things. Uh it's just a great way to uh to recognize our students to watch them um you know perform in in different performances in the spring but also recognize their accomplishments from throughout the year. So if you're able to get to any of those events, please make arrangements. We encourage you to
028do that. Just a reminder that beginning April 1st through August the 31st, policy DC local delegates to superintendent the authority to employ contract personnel. This allows the district to be uh offer contracts in a more timely manner and be more competitive during the hiring season. Uh it's something we put in place a few years ago with policy. I just want to remind everybody that that does kick in on April the 1st. An update will be provided to the board at each regular board meeting u during that time. We'd also like to introduce our new officer, Autumn Deer Der. Sorry, I Autumn Der. Autumn, thank you very much for being here. Welcome to Floorsville. Uh she is beginning her required um department field training and once she gets through with that, she'll receive her assigned campus.
029But I just want to take a minute to say thank you very much for being here. [applause] >> She will put you to work. I promise. >> We're already there. [laughter] Thank you very much. >> Um, one thing before I talk about attendance and u enrollment, I just want to make sure everybody knows that new student enrollment event will be April the 1st from 3 to 6 here at the early childhood center. Uh, that again that is for new to the district students. They've never been enrolled before. This is enrollment. So, it's not for returning students. The target audience is prek and kinder because obviously those students are enrolling for the first time. Uh, but we're going to have that first of three different enrollment events on April the 1st. So, please uh mark your
030calendars. If you know anybody that's got those kiddos that are uh at that age, we want to make sure they get in here and get early, get enrolled as early as possible so we can uh do all of our staffing models and everything else. Also included is our enrollment and attendance rates. Uh enrollment as of February 20th was 3,872. Uh, and overall year-to-ate uh, attendance was at 93.43%. So again, board members, there are quite a few events that are provided for you on that list. I encourage you to attend many as many of those as you can, and please don't hesitate to let me know if you got any questions. Thank you, Dr. Gilstro. Next, we'll have Miss Brooks will present the district improvement plan formative review. Welcome. Good evening, Mr. Shadrach, Dr. Gilstrap, and
031members of the board of trustees. Tonight, I will share the formative review which was conducted by the district leadership team in February and includes a review of all four goals and the progress on them. Each campus and department provided feedback and evidence toward goal attainment. I will provide just a summary of each goal, but you have the detailed 40page report in your packet if you would like to get more information on anything that I bring up tonight. As a reminder, our district improvement plan goals also mirror our strategic plan goals so that we are always working in the same direction. Goal one is excellent student outcomes. There are four objectives and 19 strategies for this goal. We have made considerable progress in one, moderate progress in 12, and some progress in six strategies. Here are
032just a few data points we've analyzed to evaluate goal progress. Again, more information is available in your packet. FISD is in the data collection year of implementing the teacher incentive aotment, which is focused on students making at least one year of growth. Currently, 57% of teachers are eligible for designation. All TIA teachers have undergone walkthroughs focusing on questioning and learner centered strategies and our middle ofear data in K to2 also shows growth above the national average. The high school course catalog is being updated to revise our IBC's for various programs allowing for earlier certification and CCMR points for our students. So we're starting them on that path a little bit earlier. Uh we are also expanding our business pathway. The district has also provided additional support and training to teachers and strategies to help emergent
033bilingual and structured literacy and phonics lessons. The second cohort of early college high school students was identified just Friday and we were able to accept our maximum of 60 students and we have many more on the waiting list, a little over 20 I believe. Last semester we also we also saw a 95% passing rate for all of our dual college students or dual credit students. We also continue to conduct our safety drills, including practicing a reunification drill at the high school just last month. [cough] Excuse me. Goal two is superior workplace environment. There are three objectives and six strategies for this goal. We have made progress in all six strategies. The teaching and learning department has completed day three of the special education teacher academy which is designed to increase capacity for our support facilitation
034teachers. excuse me, and provide needed supports for our sped students. We also have monthly professional development sessions for our secretaries. Staff also continue to serve on various committees, including TIA and instructional materials calendar, which you also just heard about, and four of our five campuses have been visited by TEA reps and reported no intruder detection audit findings. District committees continue to meet and raises are all in place for the 2526 school year. Overall job satisfaction on the 2526 staff survey also indicated positive results. You can see that the blue and the red are either strongly agree or agree. The statements in this category were I am proud to work in FISD. I know what is expected of me in my job and I would recommend my campus or department to a friend as a good
035place to work. [cough] I'm gonna grab a drink. Uh for goal three, it's exceptional customer service and community engagement. For goal three, we have three objectives and six strategies. We've also had considerable progress in two, moderate progress in one, and some progress in three strategies. >> [cough] >> Some notable strategies include student recognitions are displayed on campuses widely through the marquees, through Facebook, through all kinds of areas. We do work really hard to make sure our students are being recognized just like at the board meeting tonight. [snorts] We also hosted a free virtual workshop on gratitude and mindfulness uh for our parents. Um we have several more planned. It's available online and in person. So just some extra workshops that we're holding for our parents. and FMS vision council has increased parent participation in campuses
036and in the PTA. The family services department hosted the angel tree project and provided over 250 students with gifts. The middle school athletes adopted students at ECC for Christmas and delivered those gifts with Santa. And like I've previously reported, we have also seen an overall decrease in discipline referrals at the secondary level. Goal four is strategic resource management. There are four objectives and seven strategies for this goal. We've had moderate progress in six and some progress in one strategy. The district did receive its first rating of a B+. And the district received additional grant funding to help teachers become national board certified just this semester. So another about $34,000 to help support teachers in that journey. We also continue to monitor all of our facilities for growth and planning, [cough] [clears throat] including particularly our
037CTE facilities. We also continue to have monthly safety and security videos shared with our students and staff on relevant topics. I think next month is stranger danger, I hear. Um, and like I shared previously, we've had zero findings in our in TEA IDAS. And another point we continue to monitor is our work orders through our maintenance department which is at 98% completion through the second quarter. So this concludes the second formative re view. Next month I will provide the board with the formative review and then the summitive will be presented in July. Are there any questions? >> Great summit. Thank you. >> Thank you so much. Yeah. >> Next on the agenda is item number five, the consent [laughter] agenda by Dr. Gilstra. >> I guess board members, uh the consent agenda does include the
038minutes and also financials uh which were added just today since it was the beginning of the month. Uh we do have one donation for approval from the Floresville Athletic Booster Club for $14,000 uh in order to just support all the programs um within the department. So administration recommends the board approve the consent agenda as presented. >> Go ahead. >> Second. >> I move to accept administration recommendation. >> Okay. So we have a motion by Mr. Sabot and a second by Dr. Dr. Martinez. Do we have any further questions or discussions on the motion? Show hands in favor. Six to zero. Thank you >> again. Hey, thank you booster club for uh the the uh the donation. [clears throat] Thank you'all very much. >> We will now consider the approval of the proposed proposed library materials
039procurement by Miss Brooks. Something new. >> Yes, >> luckily I don't have to do most of the talking for this one, [laughter] but um excuse me just to reintroduce you. This is Tara Jacobs. She is our instructional media specialist and also coordinates all of the district libraries. And Miss Annette Mummy is the chair of our Slack. Um, so they are here to provide any information and talk about all the hard work that they've done to help us um, get SB13 up and rolling and um, continue with our great library programs. Thank you for having us tonight. The school [clears throat] library advisory council is a board established council that supports the development and oversight of the district's library collections in accordance with board policy EFB local. The council is composed of parents and educators and
040meets at least twice annually to fulfill its statutory responsibilities. The primary role of the Slack is to recommend library materials for procurement to the board of trustees. Transparency and parental involvement are central to the Slack's work. During the initial meeting with our library advisory council, the proposed procurement lists were shared, reviewed, and then made publicly accessible for 30 days to gain community feedback. Guided in coordinating these efforts is our school library advisory council chair, Annette Mummy, whose leadership ensures the council's work remains transparent and aligns with district goals. So, I'll now introduce Annette Mummy. >> Hi, thank you for having me. Uh, good evening. My name is Annette Mummy and I'm honored to serve as the chair of the school library advisory council. On behalf of the entire Slack committee, I would like to begin
041by thanking you, our FISD board of trustees, for your continued support of our district libraries. Your commitment to literacy, student choice, and high quality instruction of resources makes a meaningful difference on every campus. Tonight, I am proud to present the proposed list of titles recommended for purchase by the school library advisory council. This list represents thoughtful review, collaboration, and careful consideration. Our council of IFSD parents and staff reviewed these titles to confirm they align with district guidelines, enhance curriculum, resonate with students, and uphold the standards of our community values. As both the school library advisory ch uh chair and parent of two FISD students at uh Floresville South, this work is deeply personal to me. I see firsthand the impact of our school libraries have on our children. My oldest son, Elijah Ray, absolutely devours
042the I survived series from our FSE library. He often checks out two at a time, finishing one and immediately diving into the next one. Watching him become excited about history, resilience, and storytelling because of what he discovers in our library shelves is a powerful reminder of why this work matters. My request today is simple. that we continue to provide our students with high quality reading materials that spark curiosity, build empathy, strengthen literacy skills, and engage young minds just like my son and so many other students across our district. The titles before you reflect a range of genres, grade levels, and interest. They are designed to ensure that every student, regardless of reading level or background, can see themselves in a book and discover something new. Strong school libraries are foundational to student success and maintaining
043current engaging collection is essential to the mission. On behalf of the school library advisory council, thank you for your time, your leadership, and your support for our students and our libraries. We respectfully submit the proposed list of titles for your consideration and approval. >> Thank you. >> Any questions? Miss Mummy, if you want to make a recommendation. Uh, >> the School Library Advisory Council recommends the board approve the proposed titles for procurement >> as presented. >> Dr. ODM. >> Yes. I would like to make the motion to accept the administration's recommendation. >> Mr. Shos, I got a motion for Dr. Odum and a second by Mr. Shaw House. >> Just a real quick. Motion should be that you're accepting the recommendation of the school library, not the administration. >> Okay. I I recommend that >>
