Thank you very much. Um, we will do the carpet trust update. I apologize. I don't I didn't know we had this new video. So, next time I'll do it on but this time I'm going to face you as I usually do. That's okay. just walk and start to this is our traditional listing of where started and where it is now with all the values and all of the distributions and all the contributions every year. So, as you can see, started at a million6 in 2001. Um, it's distributed 2,52,000 to the community. um it's received about $245,000 from individuals and also from the gift foundation and it is still 2,29. Um now we'll talk about the investments and where those investments are currently. So the first page just shows in tab three shows um the total
value of 2 million 209 there. The more important page is the one right behind that. We'll stay in test three and it's called asset allocation. So this just shows us that we're 64% in stocks. The rest is in bonds in cash. Um most of those stocks are in the US. There are some outside the US too for the first time in 15 years a US market in the US market. That's not a normal thing in recent history at least. Um you see the the uh total boxes there each one of them is tab down to more detail. So if you say what we have in US equity, you see that you own Apple and you own Microsoft and you own McDonald's and Costco etc. So there's lots of detail that we will go into tomorrow.
We're happy to always take questions on any of that. If we don't have to see what the sectors the fund is invested in um and where the concentrations are. So true to any investment manager right now the biggest concentration is information technology and so that is going to be large companies primarily in the US again like Apple and Oracle and IBM. Um so they're large companies very safe and secure but that is about 20% of the portfolio a little bit more than that. We also have financials we also have industrials currently um but consumer discretionary and those are things that the consumer is going to buy if they feel safe with their jobs if they have a lot of money in their pocket. They're going to um to go and patronize those companies. So, we
like those two because they're on the consumer right now and we'll talk about that in just a moment. Um, again, the detail is underneath those orange bars and so you can see exactly what is owned in each of those sectors. If we go to tab five, we see the income developed from the portfolio. So even if the portfolio goes up and down, what we know is that $61,000 per year is coming into the portfolio from just dividends and interest only. So this kind of company you you all over the last spring and fall of 2024 25, you distributed $12,000 out of scholarships. And so half a half that was just from dividends and interest. Um and that's a good trend. That's a very good ratio. If you go to track N you see the performance
and so you can see there that um in the upper left hand corner is the asset allocation again. nitrogen cells and I call it 106 and the on the right hand side there's a mountain chart and the the bluish area um is the index compilation the group of indexes that best reflects our asset allocation in this fund and number one is your portfolio. So over the last 12 months the portfolio is up 17.5%. Your average driver 10 year 10 is 14 1.5% per year. Um so we continue to use high quality companies um and not take risk with going something that might be a home run hit too. Um so very certain companies where all of them have all of them have profits that are none that are profitable labor. So this for this perfect
portfolio but has growth potential. Um and you can see a lot of statistics on these pages. The other I would point out is that the standard deviation which measures risk is right in line with the standard deviation of the index. And we see that we turn one page and get a judge the left hand center the center center area. Um so we're not taking too much indexes we're doing indexes and that's where we always want to be and start to be tax which is the final tab just gives you a little bit of a of an update on what we see in the current economy as well as the US equities. There's a lot of talk right now about um people investing and in non US companies investing among US entities and non US investors
prefer non US companies for various political reasons but that really just isn't the case. The US is still stronger on the block and so we're always pull through that um for that issue. So that's what we see going on too and it has historical parts too going forward. We still like stocks. Um we'll probably have some pullbacks this year because we've been overdue for some pullbacks. Um but we've got tax cuts that have come up. So consumers will get historically high amount of refunds and generally those refunds are spent rather than saved. Some some are used to pay debt. Um we'll have lower interest rates most likely. Uh we have deregulation and then company earnings are very strong as we go forward. So, probably high single digit, low double digit returns are what we're looking
for here from the south side. Happy to take any questions that any of you all have. Again, we distributed about 112,000 last fall and last spring. That's the fiscal year. Of course, um we don't have the numbers yet for the fall. The amount that we had to distribute was 82,000. That was the the bottom line minimum. So, we're pretty much in line. A couple years ago, we had to distribute a little bit more. Remember we raised the amount. We're pretty much in line after the May 990 report is due. We'll know more at that time. So we'll come back to you if we need to do any updates relative to that. answer my question. Thank you. Take a look at consideration. second all the hearing school district called this has been posted in the department
of states education mode. This is a public hearing to discuss the 2024 325 executive report uh table report. Uh this is a public hearing to discuss the 2024 2025 Texas academic performance report also paper encourages comments from the audience after districts completion of their presentation. At this time we'll begin the public hearing to discuss. Okay. Good evening. Um and I appreciate you guys joining us tonight. We are um going to go over our tape report. That's our um academic report that is posted um on NTA and it's posted this read it. You if you can't find out where that is on the TEA website, you're welcome to reach out to me and I can um send you a link to that. Okay. So this is for our 24 25. And what you're going to see
as we go through this slide deck um information that is not 24 25, you're going to see information there that's from 22 23 23 24. Um the taper is always a year or so behind. So even though we're in the 2526 school year, this is going to be data from our previous school year in the spring and some other data that we collect over time. So the taper is published every year and this year it does have our A through F rating um distinction designations and any kind of uh status that we have. Um if you want to know a little bit more about it, you can also find the glossery there. So we're going to quickly kind of just go through um our performance um scores. And so what you're going to see here
is a cross-section of third grade through 8th grade and our high school EOC's. So, as I kind of flip through these slides, you're welcome to kind of look at the scores. I'm not going to go down each one of them individually, but I'm going to kind of get the highlights for you and we'll go over some things at the end. So, we'll first kind of take a look at grade three. Um, elementary performance remains a a strength for us, particularly in uh grade three reading and math. Our grade four um shows a notable improvement this year as well. um increasing our scores uh you know significantly across the board and overall performance trends are stable and improving at the approaches and the meets level. Um we're going to shift to middle school which this one
for this year counts at our middle school level but starting this this school year and and forward our fifth grade is now moved to our elementary campus. So we'll start seeing those accountability and our taper report shift from our middle school campus to uh our elementary campus for fifth grade which are free so our exams that they take every year. Um and so you're going to kind of see this for fifth grade this year. They'll move accordingly to the elementary next year. Middle grade show a little bit more variability. Um it is our one of our target areas that we're looking at in the fifth grade um sixth grade if you want to click on that one. And then uh seventh and eighth as well. Some of this uh at the middle school level. We're
kind of getting some of those kiddos that miss some of that instruction from, you know, kindergarten and first grade and it's starting to carry over into the middle school now. So, we're still working on filling some of those gaps as well as some change um particularly in math in um our instructional teams and those types of things. So, we're working on uh some things to continue to improve um our scores there if we want to shift to uh the high school. our high school EOC performances um support long-term readiness and what we're looking for for our CCMR and things like that strongly with those CCMR indicators and CCMR which we'll talk about a little bit later in a few minutes stands for uh college and career readiness so we're in military readiness so we're trying
to prepare these kids for the future um and so this particularly in spring is uh what we're going to be looking at All right. Hopefully, I'm not sure. So, what we're trying to focus on here is um remaining on that increasing that M's level. So, we're hitting that approaches. So, real quick, the difference for those of you that don't know between approaches, meets and masters. Those are all passing um scores, approaches is a passing score, but we're increasing. We want to increase that meets and masters level. Um so, we're going to continue to work um diligently on that. So, we're going to now shift to annual group and this is just overall across all grades and all subject areas. And this grows are progressing year over year, which is what we want to see. Okay.
So we can look and dig down into the different grade levels, but we also want to look at annual growth. And we're continuing, like I said, to um to improve that approaches to meets to masters. That's a continual um thing that we're looking at. And also monitoring depth of learning, not just minimum proficiency. And remember, this is all based on one one star score, one star test that we take once a year. Okay? some other measures as well. We're going to take a look at some comparisons. They compare ourselves with other schools in our region. And so the state as well as our region. for that strong also helps us target. So we'll kind of shift through those different ones. We want to click through those slides. Give everybody a chance to kind of look
at those. And then our last group is EOCC's. and see where we land um as compared to everybody else in high school. We're going to take five that they have to pass as part of their graduation requirement. All right. Heat. Heat. Heat. has been focused on students not only in our district but across the state region. So our temperature is higher than the region in the state in both 22 23 and 23 24. It looks as if that trend is going to continue 2425 again and again in 2526. um absency is uh that's where currently sit right now is 9.7% and 9.5% which is a lot lower than the state and region averages are uh you know we are significantly lower especially at the hospital level so which is important which you know shows us
the student engagement and connection continue to be a strength that we have here. And this kind of breaks down what a 4 year um looks like from uh 9th through 12th grade. You can kind of look at the students and this will be the class of 2024 that we're taking a look at. So, not our seniors that graduated last year, but the year before. Um it kind of shows you how many graduated and how many uh you know received those different areas. We didn't have any um most of our kids graduate. Uh you know we had 1.3% of those 2024 uh that dropped out. So most of ours were continuers. We'll go ahead and shift to our next slide and we're going to talk a little bit more about CCMR. We talk about what your
career, college, and military readiness are. And this time, once again, we're going to look at data that's not from 2425. We don't have that data yet. Um, but we are going to look at data for 22 23 and 23 24. Um, and so compared to the state, we're preparing our students for post secondary readiness at a higher rate than our state or our region is. that we have those strong indicators that means that we're preparing our kids far beyond just our you know graduation which is important and not only in the CCMR but also um for college ready and then the next slide is going to talk about dual credit. Dual credit is the opportunity for our students in high school to take um college level courses um and get college credit while also receiving
high school credit. And so um we have a lot of students that do that with um about 55.1% in 23 24 and 53.5% of our students participated in that in 22 23 school. So giving our giving our students an opportunity to be able to um participate in that uh helps them when they get ready to go to college. Um we're going to also take a look at our SAT scores um and how our students have done compared to everybody else. So, you know, this is a particular area where um we're scoring higher than our region in our state and not only all subject areas combined, but a breakout of math and reading. Um our students here take um their PSAT and their SAT exams, they're given an opportunity to take them at school. Um, and
so it's that along with any tests that they take outside of that. This one talks about uh our fiscal year. This would be our 2023 um graduates and where they are. So we try to track our students for a while to see um after they graduate where they're at. And so, um, our 2023 class, um, of 78 graduates, we're able to kind of see where they've gone. So, we can kind of take a look and see. Some of them went to Grayson, others went to other state universities in Texas, um, four-year public institutions that may not have been in Texas or two-year institutions of the same thing. We only have three of our students that we couldn't track and there's a handful that, you know, we couldn't find. pretty typical. Uh but that is um
they this is a a space where we can kind of track them after high school to see where they're going. So these last few slides and what you will see um if you take a look at the taper report is a section where it talks about our student population. Um and so this particular one reflects the students we serve. Um it informs our instructional decisions and and how we uh proceed. It focuses in on um how we're going to approach different situations for all of our students and keeping equity as the main priority in all of our planning. This one breaks it down a little bit further on demographics and talks about where we are. So our economically disadvantaged students, the state rate is 16.5 and our district rate is 17.9. Um our DBS that
we service are at 8%. Um we have a very low uh population of students in 23 24 that were in for disciplinary placements and then our address number is um about half of what the state average is. And so regardless of what our percentages are here, like we reiterated, our main job here is to make sure that we're focusing in on all the demographic areas and areas that we need to pay close attention to. Um, this one breaks it down by high level and ESL. Our students that are enrolled in that, students enrolled in gifted and talented as well as special education and what those percentages are compared to the state. We can take a look at our teacher distribution. And so this is ethnic distribution of our population of teachers and uh ethnicity. kind
of speaks for itself a little bit there as far as where we're at compared to the state. Still in a small rural community and so um our reps will be a little different. And then uh years of experience. The main thing to focus on here has to do with the stability and experience of our teachers. If you look at at our graph, um 39% of our teachers um have 11 to 20 years of experience. Okay. Um so that means the majority of our teachers are coming and staying right. So the majority of our teachers uh you know are coming here and staying for a long time which speaks highly of the education that our kids are needing and seeing the success all the way forward. So I know I gave you a lot of information
the last few slides are just going to kind of be an overview of everything. We're going to talk about some of the successes, some of the things that we're working on um and kind of an action plan moving forward. Um so just to summarize what we see here, we got a strong performance at approaches and meets across the elementary with grade three reading and math outperforming both the state and region 10. Um reiterating grade four and shows some significant improvement from the year before with notable gains at the meet and masters level. District performance consistently meets or exceeds state averages across most reported areas. Um our hospital outcomes are showing us uh support for postsecary readiness with a lot of our graduate graduating heading on to other higher education institutions. Um we uh we have
appropriate identification. That's what we talking about for spend. We are not overidentifying or under identifying. an appropriate amount um and providing those services in compliance with the state. And you know, by providing transparency and access to data through our taper, you guys are able to kind of see how we're making decisions um and keep making us accountable to the things we're supposed to do. Um so opportunities for improvement, there's a lot of areas we're always trying to improve, right? So we're going to increase the percentage of all our students that are reaching that M's level. That's one of our goals particularly when compared to region 10. Uh and we're going to streng the depth of learning. So it's not just about the school but also the depth of learning and that advanced achievement. Um we're
going to strengthen that consistency beyond elementary school. We're working on those things now. You kind of see that in the action plan especially as they transition into those middle grades. So we have some foundational things we need to continue to do in the elementary school to prepare them for those schools. for math and reading. We actually have an implementation here um next year for math in the following year for reading and then middle school remains for us. Um like I said with that fact that we're still dealing from those kids that are now in middle school that were impacted by more and performance and you know getting to those high performance levels. We're going to continue to narrow those gaps for specials including our economically disadvantaged students and our students and then sustaining and still
our instructional practices. So plan action is continuing to strengthen our instructional coherence through our framework that we're going to take a look at this evening. Uh focusing on like I said not just and then target those areas are high. So what we look like for our students, our teachers, games are going to be doing. So students, we want to continue to give them opportunities for the act of problem solving and perseverance and math discourse teachers we're going to continue planning the use of RB intentional task design that we're going to be working on. our campus leaders continuing to monitor that instructional coherence and supporting growth and then us central providing those resources we need to provide the resources and help with those data informed supports families we always need help at home so reinforcing those
learning habits and those expectations uh and helping us use that uh across the we're always using our data to monitor progress so we'll continue to do that and we regularly We review it and adjust it as needed and then preserve strong practices um that are contributing to our success um and ensure that our system has systemwide consistency. I mean Any questions from the audience at this time? So, we'd like to see if you have any questions about the three performance measures that we talked about tonight. Heat. Heat. Heat. All right, I'm going to start tonight by opening us all in prayer. So, please bow your heads. Dear heavenly father, thank you for our Gunner community. Lord, I pray that your word continues to bless Gunnar ISD. guide our administration and staff as they teach and

Thank you for our parents and this community for their continued support. We love you and ask that you continue to bless each and every Gunner Tiger. Amen. >> Amen. You're here for the pledge. I'm here to recognize you to come and lead us in our pledge, please. Heat. will empower every student to attain an exceptional education that challenges them to exceed their own expectations and provide a foundation for success or success in life. Jim uh now I participation if anyone would like to speak for anything. Now your time no cards. All right. Thank you. Now we'll move to Iowa versus the superintendent report. Okay. Thank you. I'll
make my comments brief time. We have lots of students and staff recognized. I know we're here for that. Let me go ahead and give you updates on the strategic plan. Right now we have eight teams. We have eight teams. Okay. Yeah. TV show 7 years. Americ stops from having gas. the building license plate very first to make that building the history of that building and make that building and so we're looking to finalize that next few weeks this building right here has a new roof we had lots of damage done too we got a very beautiful roof put on that work was completed I'm sure Mr. want to speak more about that whenever he gets up in a little bit. We might like to stay for that report. Um we do have um watch jobs
coming back to building school. That's exciting for us. We want to make sure that we have um outstanding men in our community who are demonstrating the right types of leadership at our elementary school. So if you're interested in that, make sure you Mr. Davis and he can tell you more about a small group of dead individuals to work on a regular basis to watch and then lastly I'll tell you that I finished my 21 national superintendent certification that process without questioning everything we do and the process we have we focus on yes students first but we also make sure we have you're not care. And so over that 20 month uh period kind of question everything you do as leaders and then they all came together last week whenever I did that 20 months and
so I'm excited about sharing the team of leadership we had all that I was able to learn over those 20 months fantastic George nationwide from Alaska down to Florida was amazing. um too much but this at a glance we have the ambassador tomorrow morning we will have our 20 ambassadors at school they're going to be able to see students are able to see classrooms see what we're trying to do in the future and those ambassadors are behind the scenes view that's interesting to you and honestly I encourage you to sign up next year to be an ambassador for accept 28 years. We have our small school presentation on the 24th present ambassador academy to school districts across the state. Uh I will be at superintendent meeting on the 27th. Our 5 years of district of innovation is up. So we're going to start the hard work of reneoing that DOI plan. Um I do have a legislative meeting on the fourth TRA. Uh we do have 7th of March is our gift family video night. It's Saturday afternoon. Please support that you can. give so much back to our teachers through many grants and making scholarships for our students who are going to college. Amazing organization. We can support that by participating in the family video that is on March 7th. You can find information about that all over Facebook and on the
gift website. We'll have our final ambassador academy on the evening of the 10th and we'll learn about advocacy at the local state level and then graduation from that uh four session 12 hours of learning program the 16th to the 20th. We will need to come back to school the 23rd set that being a bad weather day. It's going to be a makeup day. Want to have school that day. Mark your calendars with spring break instead of ending on the final Monday and having that day off or anything come back to school on that Monday. That'll be the one day we have to make up from the four days off. Uh we are uh by 12 superintendent across the state to present design presentation and understand small team administrators that 14 26 right here at this
location 6 p.m. and we'll have our strategic plan action team presentations. That's where we are going to come back in here and present to the original 45 strategic plan. So, a large section of our community is being asked what they think the district should look like and that's be one of those final steps we have before. All right, that's all I have question. Okay. Students that are being recognized tonight. Come on. Call your name. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat up here. Heat. Yeah. Heat. She's just sunshine. Sunshine. She's always smiling, always. And then we have district on March 25th and 26th in Grayson. Um, just our last event which we had in Cross, we had students enter, we had 19 entries of those 11 students. And of those 11 students, nine, no, no, 12, 12th place. >> 12th place. So there and then one of them was a team placing as well. So we're we're looking forward to pretty good things coming up for our district competitions and looking forward to quite a few going on to regionals, maybe even state. Heat. Heat. All right, for our elementary big impact award, we are recognizing our Crystal Apple Award winner, which is
a staffnominated and staff voted on award for a teacher that goes goes above and beyond um the call of duty. And for us, I'm pleased to introduce this is Whitney Ke. So, this was an anonymous submission about her by one of her um co-workers. When I think about teachers who consistently commit to student success, Mrs. Ke is someone who comes to mind. She is so intentional and amazing at building relationships with kids. I don't think she even realizes it's like her teacher superpower. She gets to know students hobbies and interests and always finds a way to bring those to life in the classroom. This in turn leads to more academic success with the kids. I've seen it time and time again. Each year I work with her. This is Wendy Kill. that power recognitions. This
open Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Good evening. We have the January financial highlights for um close of January. We're going to start out on page five of your workbook with a statement of position by fund. That's just listing all of the accounts. So, um, total ending balance for all of the accounts, if you'll go to that last column, ending market value, all the way down to the very bottom, we ended with $24,998,151.50. The M material changes within the month um, on this sheet um, are the Lamar general operating investment increased by 2,285,000 and that was just from the tax revenue coming in that we've collected. Our debt service in the Lamar account increased by $2,485,498.72. Again, that was the debt service portion of those tax collections. The Lamar 2023 bond decreased by $340,6846. And those
are just paying out on our monthly um payouts for our uh bond construction that's going on. And then the total interest earned for all of the accounts is in that second column all the way down to the bottom was $64,87.65. Next, we'll flip over to the tax collection analysis that's on page seven. So, um, for the general fund, which is the top portion of your sheet, um, on that third column, the actual year-to-ate amount, we've collected 4,378,622. Um, and that's it. We've collected 53.77% of what we budgeted for the revenue of tax collection so far, and we still have more coming in. uh for the debt service uh that that amount is $3,16 $3,16,816 which which is 63.52% of what was budgeted. Then flipping over to the budget summary, a look of where we are
at and performing with our budget starts on page eight. Um we'll start out at the top. Our total revenues um collected year-to- date in that third column up at the uh top portion of your page. $12,942. 12,942,311, which is 80 almost 83% of what was budgeted in the revenue is where we are so far. In the expenditures, um, our year-to- date actual is $8,937,21, which is 62% of expenditures of what we budgeted. So, right in line, um, again, we're still watching that maintenance and operations budget. And, um, it's taken another hit because we've had an increase in a couple of our utilities. Um, our water, we just got notification that in April, Must uh, Mustang Water is increasing our bills by 5%. And then um our city t our city uh trash was taken over
from our public over to the city. And we're still trying to work out all of the numbers for that with that. But right now it looks like that's an increase of about 20% over what was what was budgeted. >> 20%. Yeah. >> So So we're looking at the the the list per week and the containers and trying to get all that in line, making sure. But rough numbers looks like it's about a 20% increase right now. But we're we're going to take those numbers and go to the city and make sure that it's in line with what we had and we're seeing it correctly. So, >> and that is all I have unless you have any questions. >> Thanks. >> With that turn over to >> Thank you. Now 17. >> All right. The enrollment
right now we have uh total at the elementary 497, middle school 289, high school 378. Total enrollment right now is 1164. Remember we budgeted our revenue uh projections off of 1150 with an APA of 1072. So we're looking very good right now as far as u revenue projection based on attendance. All right. Principles we start with maintenance. Go ahead. Oh, much easier to speak to not a full room. Um uh as we know the budget, yes uh it has taken a little bit of a hit recently. Our high school that we had uh lasted for about a week. Uh we had to bring service master out. We had a valve that came loose when we reressurized the high school valve wled its way loose. Um and uh had some water flooding from what I've been
told. This isn't the first or even second time that's happened in the exact same spot. Uh we had service master come out. They had to bring about 80 pieces of equipment between workers and air stroers and dehumidifiers. Um but from the looks of it um we did a really good job of mitigating damage. Um there's only um about 15 linear feet of drywall have to be replaced. Um and we'll get that work done here in house over spring break. Um to help get mitigate that, we've installed a shut off valve in that area. Um so if something happens again there's inside the building we now have a valve and a ball valve that we can shut off quickly um if that happens again so that we don't have to shut off the entire beh hall
of the high school. Um we're also going to look into um what we need to do to get that area insulated um to prevent it from happening again. Uh the ice falling off of the roof of the high school um caused about $15,000 in damage to AC units. Um some of the tops of them were just absolutely crushed. One unit was that made it look like black. Um it completely smashed it. Um and then the other uh big piece of damage was uh the canopy that was over the uh courtyard at the middle school collapsed. Um so working with Gallagher to try to get a number on that um and what we can do cuz it was a year old um at most. Um we also had about 50 ft of gutters um that came
down from the ice sliding off of that. U the steer bar we were able to isolate that and get that done pretty quick. Uh some of the projects that were approved a few um meetings ago uh the security fencing is done. It looks amazing. Especially um the drive up area to the back of the stadium where everybody walking up on Friday nights before games. That looks awesome back there. It's all um black steel um gates and fencing back there. Now um I was talking with earlier today. I think we're going to see a little bit down the road about getting the A department and their CNC cutting machine to cut out some GT graphics for we make those blue. Not those on the uh on that big day. It'll look awesome. Um, after that, it's
getting us, you know, a few more steps closer to, uh, being compliant with the new safety standards for Texas. Um, so now, you know, high school kids and middle school kids when they're moving between the two campuses and between the fieldhouse, they're always going to be behind a closed modern fence. Now, um, so we're there. Uh, the roof is done. It looks amazing. U, it it really is amazing what that new roof can do for, but this building almost looks brand new from the outside now. Um, I think we made a great decision with the roof we went with. Um, and uh, with it being the grade that it is, we shouldn't have any problems out of it for a long time. Um, with the raintorms this weekend, I was told that one leak um,
which when you consider how many square footage of shoe we did, one leak is pretty good. So, we'll get Corell back out to get that fixed pretty quick. Um, Mr. Pat knows exactly where it's at. We're going to get on that tomorrow. Um let's see here. Okay. Uh on to spending some money at the high school. Um we do have one of the big 20 ton units in the cafeteria has gone out. It's been out since about October. Um and as we start to uh get hotter and hotter and outside it's starting to to increase the temperature there. If you were at the Daddy Daughter dance um a couple weekends ago um it got pretty pretty warm in there even at night. Right now there's three units there, but those three units are running at
about half capacity. Um, so we're overstressing the one unit that's really working. Um, it's it's really one unit uh firing everything. So I've been in contact with McDaniel here about that. Um, it's about $46,000 to replace that unit. It's a 20-year-old unit. It they've been they've said that for the last couple years it's been needing replacement. So, uh, we're looking at budgeting that. Uh, looking forward to next year with the budget. Uh we need to uh get in the budget to replace some older AC units around the high school. Some of those units are coming up on, you know, 20, some of them are 23 years old. Um that's just way too long for some of these units. Um also some water heaters that are in that 15 to 20 year range. Um those just
kind of become ticking time bombs at some point. Uh so we need a budget for that. If you look in here, we need a budget to um retro this lighting. You can't really find these bulbs anymore, which is why you see so many of them are out. We've kind of condensed everything to to get the light in here uh for these meetings. Uh but we're going to have to go through and replace all these. We also need to install some shut offs in each hallway here. Um a lot like the high school. That way we can isolate problems as they happen without having to shut off water to the entire building. Um, so we're going to look into budgeting that um, as well as spray foam insulation um, here at the high school and at
the middle school to make these buildings more efficient because we need to get every year we can out of them. Um, and also looking to get this week um, numbers on um, what we can do about the uh, windows in front of the high school that uh, have lost their own gas and have have glazed over um, either to see if they're going to be repairable um, or see what replacement would look like. So we can get the front of that up and running. And that's all I've got. Any questions? >> That's your ice that came off the roof at the high school. >> Yes, sir. >> What type of roof was that? This is that basically steel. And so the ice, you know, what happens? It just gets compacted on there and then when
it starts to heat up, that steel expands just a little bit and it starts to melt from underneath and it just becomes slip and slide for that ice. >> It's the same thing happen. those um little tasks and they'll they'll it's they'll put them in between those sanding seams and I don't know how they go down. They screw them down or glue them down or what but what it does it just catches that sheet of ice and it holds it there so it has to melt and it won't slide. >> Okay. >> And I think it's a pretty inexpensive install. I mean, you know, does happen once every 5 years or whatever. >> Yes. >> But maybe a very inexpensive. >> Yes. um this spring after all this happened. Um I'm going to look into
see what we can do to help mitigate that because that obviously becomes an issue with our units right underneath that. >> I had I need to look into it in my house. >> Yeah. But yep, that's what happened. Thank you guys. So, we talked about a big piece tonight with the taper report. So, some of the updates uh for me um we will be presenting uh the framework for math later this evening for you guys to look at and approve. Um, and based on that outcome, we're also hoping to bring this next month um, our math instructional materials that we've been working with our um, staff um, at the elementary middle school and then our algebra one teacher um, to present that to you guys this uh, in our March meeting um, for approval. So,
we're working um, hard on that. Um, we're looking uh, forward to the future of next year looking at ROA. So, that that's kind of our plan there with math. Um, like Dr. Reno Sardney spoke about we do have our ambassador academy tomorrow. I'm super excited and a little nervous. This one's all about academics. So, um you know, um I'm excited to take the the have the ambassadors come into the elementary school and um um get an opportunity to see the kids learning in action. So, we're we're very excited about it. So, >> Huh? >> You're not nervous, right? Yeah, >> it it is. I I'm nervous about me cuz I have to do a lot of talking, not the kids. They're going to be fabulous. So, um so we're looking forward to that tomorrow morning
um to handle that. We've been working really hard with our CTE um program. We know that's an area we're continuing to try to work on. And so, we had conversations today u middle school, high school principal, Dr. Enos and myself on that. It's something um we're patiently, it's going to take some time for us to get where we would like to be, but we're going to continually work on that. So, we're continuously having conversations about that. We um just finished up with our middle of the year math testing that we do for all of our K8 um students. And then um we've also had um interims that we do um through the middle school and and some of that. And then MC class for our kindergarten through 2 grade, they do um a reading three
times a year. So, they just finished doing their MC class for reading. Um so, we'll be taking a look at all of that data. um and kind of making decisions instructionally based on on map. Uh I know that Miss Clonch has already sent out her information about um MAP and looking at that data and digging into it and making instructional decisions on that and working with her math goals. Um we're going to talk about that tomorrow. I have a little picture of her board that she has over there she works with her teachers on. If you haven't seen that in the middle school, take a look at at her goal board that she has. Um and then we did start tailpass testing today. um our amazing Mrs. Rakim is working with our ELLL kids and
so we started our tail pass testing um today with our um second was it second grade that we started with today. So our second through 12th grade will do an online test over the course of the next month or so um and they'll have to take a test. It's it's quite a bit for them. There's a listening, reading, writing, and speaking that they have to do on the computer. So um that's kind of where we're at in the academic world. We're constantly trying to work on areas improvement. That's all I got for you. >> Thank you. >> Okay, let's go ahead and go with principal update. Do you have an update on high school? Okay. Okay, guys. So, our enrollment right now is at 290. Um, we have a sixth grade at 86, 7th grade
at 91, and eighth grade is at 113. Um, we added a new eighth grader that started today, actually, and we have two more coming Monday, and a seventh grader coming Monday. Um, what's been interesting is that the majority of this latest push of new middle school kids are current Gunner residents that have been going to school at other places. So, that's been just something interesting that I noted. Um, but we're very excited to have them. They've been great additions. Um, so fun fun to get to know those kids. Um, our seventh and eighth grade boys, I mentioned it earlier, but they both won their district basketball tournament this weekend. Seventh grade beat Leonard with a half court shot at the buzzer. Um, Landon Bowen made that half court shot. So, it was really exciting, really
fun to see. They all sent me videos. I was out of town this weekend, so I didn't get to go. Um, but I got a ton of videos and text messages that they won. So, I was really excited for them. Um, our science classes were very busy. You probably saw our Facebook post, but coach Mack had his kids in the indoor studying the body systems and Miss Morrison was focusing on solar systems um in her classroom and they just do an outstanding job with those hands-on activities um that keep those kids engaged. Um National School Counseling Week was earlier this month. Uh Miss Hogan is does a wonderful job at the middle school campus. Um she's constantly reaching out to kids. She's hosting groups for new students. She focuses during lunch and walks around and
talks to kids. So, she just does a really great job. She's hosting a lot of our 504 meetings right now and then starting pretty soon she's going to roll into testing. So um that all comes up. Um I will go over the map data I sent to you guys or Dr. Eno sent to you guys earlier. Um just very proud of some of the growth that we're making in some of those areas. Um the one thing that we're kind of looking for is for those um masters levels to increase because our kids are fully capable of doing that and you see that in some of those areas at those blue levels increasing. Um so I'm just very proud of that. um and the students for for trying their best and really putting forth their best
effort on those middle of the year assessments. Um you can also see from that data that uh need for that high quality instruction material in math. I really think that's going to make a huge difference. But even those scores um we're showing growth in a lot of those areas. So it's it's a great thing to see. Do you have any questions about anything for middle school? Okay. All right. I'm going to read high school. So um his enrollment he said is 9th grade is at 104 10th grade is at 112 and 11th grade 89 and 12th grade 72. So his total is 377 right now. Sarah Smith had the opportunity to perform with the best in the state at the TMA convention. Um I got to see pictures of that. That was incredible. So proud
of her. Um Tiger, our drill team earned division one rating highest possible their first ever competition. And boy you would have talked to Miss Huff two weeks ago. I think I'm not sure she thought that was going to happen, but um those girls just wowed them and did a outstanding job. So they they did fantastic. Um softball was three and one in the 40 tournament this past weekend. Jackson Hayworth participated in the state wrestling tournament, finishing in the top eight, which is amazing. Miss Lovey's class prepared Valentine's bouquets for students, faculty, and family members. Um the baseball team went around delivering Valentine to each female employee on the campus, and they even came to the middle school and delivered them to me as well. So it's very sweet. Um this class is working on the
triangle theorem states a triangle exists if the sum of two sides is larger than the three side. That I don't know what that means but sounds hard. Uh this class is working on arguments by splitting the class into two groups to argue random questions. Um this was fun getting to see my ninth graders uh my four eighth graders come back and they would tell me about some of these. She asked him questions like, "Is a hot dog really a taco? Is pizza really just toast?" And the students have to use three rhetorical appeals um and have a counter argument. So that's cool that she does that. Um I think that's all we had. That's it. There's lots of upcoming events um with baseball. Um obviously basketball is tonight um softball, all that going on. Um
and then middle school track starts next week. Thanks, guys. All righty. Um, our attendance here today is 95.91%. During the time since our last meeting, I think we've only been in session 9 days with the snowstorm, but our attendance was 95.68% during that time. Um, so, you know, with that snow week, we have we're supposed to have our UIL competition that got delayed several weeks, so we actually have that this Friday. Uh, we'll be competing in that. Uh, it also affected our some of our booster events. we had to move our fun run back. Um, but that went really well. Um, I got to give a shout out to Mr. Clunch, Ron, Roy, their team, everything they did to help get our campus ready to come back on Monday because without the work they did.
Uh, and Mrs. Po's husband, I believe, helped too. I think y'all contracted with him to to scrape our drive because we would not have been ready to come back on that Monday without the work that they did. Um, also have to give a shout out to some of our teachers. I know Mrs. Mrs. Ripammani was shoveling out there on the sidewalk. Um, we had no students fall and get hurt. Um, the only staff members that fell for ones that didn't follow my cones and we have no no comp forms submitted so far. So, I think we're in the clear on on those couple falls. But, if you want to see videos, let me know and I can send you some security videos that are pretty funny. All right. Uh, what else? Oh, our our uh
booster thawn is our big fundraiser. Um our PTO kind of runs most of that for us, which is a great blessing. Uh Chassity Bailey has ran it the last several years. She's done a fantastic job with that, so I felt like I should give her a shout out. Uh in terms of profit for our campus, uh we raised just over $42,000 in a little over a week. Um, so that'll that really supports a lot of the field trips and the fun hands-on types things we get to do um with the kids. Um, February 3rd we had a field test uh where the state told us we get to take this test. It doesn't give us much data back um but it helps them to kind of assess the rigor of questions. So our fourth grade
participated in that. fifth grade was going to, but they ended up not having to, which saved us some instructional time, so that was good. Uh, first grade is currently incubating their eggs. That's my favorite science unit in any grade. Um, and so the kids love that. They'll have a when they get closer to that 21-day window, they will have a you a live YouTube link so kids can watch on the weekend at home and uh I can give that to Dr. Enos so he can share that with you guys if you want to watch. Uh we had our Valentine uh day parties on February 12th. It's one of our two officially sanctioned parties. We're only allowed to have two technically. Uh in terms of the food exception, so that is one of those. Um we
had a visit from the Gunner uh public library to kindergarten. Uh they read some books and had a had a pizza party. Um Watchd Dogs is coming back. Our applications are live online. So, we're excited to go through those and um as we select our first cohort, we'll have full profiles that we'll put out so that the community knows who these men are and and make sure they know what the purpose of the program is. Uh the Department of State Health and Health Services uh had dental screenings and preventative care for students who returned permission slips, which was a great service that um that I didn't even know existed until uh last year. And I think it's fantastic to be able to provide that to our kids. Um so that's anything I'm forgetting, Suzanne? No.
Okay. That's my update. >> Thanks, Okay, House Bill 3 update. >> All right, House Bill 3 update. Um, so we've kind of gone over a number of these so you kind of know the charts you're about to see. This is for first and second grade combined. Uh, so it's a a sub sub goal or short-term goal underneath our third grade reading goal presented on in January. Uh so uh when we set those goals our goal for this year of 71% would be meets your masters. Previously we had a line that that lined up pretty good with if you were in the top two quintile on map achievement. Uh and then our goal by 2029 was 75%. All right. So, this shows uh I combined the classes and I weighted them based off of how many
kids were in each class and how they performed over the last five times that they've taken this test. So, in the first color, I guess that's kind of is that orange? What color is that? >> Peach. Okay. And the peach color that would be last year when these students were kinder and first graders um what percent of them were in the top two quintile or 61st percentile or better. So they started out at uh 49% of them were in the top two quintile and then they grew to by the end of the year to 68% of our kids in those two classes were scoring in the top two quintile. Um now you see that vertical break that's where they changed the norms uh in WA recalibrated nationally how kids are performing. Um and so those
percentiles the the scale score required to get a certain percentile changed. Um but overall we have a trend that's going upward throughout the nation. Most of those actually went down. Um, so our kids did well. And if you go to the next slide, I've referenced the norms changing, but this is just an overview. There are 50page documents that have details besides just the average scores and how they changed throughout the nation. Uh, but that just kind of gives you an idea if you look at those how how they changed. And then on the next slide, I actually manually went in and found what the risk score would have had to be on the 2020 um norm because when we set that goal, essentially we were saying we want 75% of kids in 2029 to have
a red score of, you know, uh let's see, second grade would have been 190, first grade would have been 175. So if you adjust that, that kind of shows you more apples to apples what it would be. How what's the the right way to interpret that goal? I don't I don't know. Do we adjust to the national norms or do we say even though the level of proficiency across the nation has dropped in the last 5 years? You know, we're Gunner ISD and and that's not okay with us. That's why I put this one on there for you. So you could see if we're going by the old norms which are generally higher standard that's that's where we are with that. So all right any questions on this data? >> All right. >> Thanks. >>
All right. So, uh, if you look, we have upcoming meetings March 26th right here 6:00 p.m. Um, April 20th will be our first budget workshop here at 5 and then we'll have a regular meeting at 6 and uh, board member report. Our election update, we had uh, Mr. Sho, he submitted application for his position. He's only one. Congratulations for Dr. Harrison's position. Christine Nelson submitted an application. She's the only candidate for that position. And for uh the vacant position we currently have, Mrs. Bernard, Robert P submitted an application. He's the only one who submitted the application for that one. So, we have three open positions and three unintested uh candidates. Therefore, we will not have to call election >> at this time. And um so that will be sent out via social media, website, all
of that tomorrow. Uh we wanted to uh make sure that we passed the write in deadline before we send that information out to that. >> Yes. So, we'll send that out after tomorrow letting the committee know exactly who applied for which seats and who's going to be the new board. Congratulations. Yes, congratulations. And speaking of that, team of eight ISO training, we'll have a team of eight training right away in the summertime. You're going to miss that one. Oh, I'm sorry. And that's 4 hours on accountability and testing and all that the state requires every other year. So this is a formulated board. We should get that requirement knocked out this summer. We will also send board members to SLI training for the summer time. If anybody else is wanting to attend SLI, make sure
that Stacy knows that way we can get you signed up for it. Well, soon you know my community times already. I'll be attending SLI. All right, with that we will move into consent agenda. Um, does anyone wish to pull the items for individual discussion? Thank you. got a motion and a second. All those in favor say I. I. >> Opposed. Carries. Now we'll move into items for individual consideration. Um the board will consider discussion and we'll take appropriate action regarding the following. Item 8A is consider approval of the K312 math framework. Okay. We'll go to page 35. The math framework was developed over this the course of this year with many stakeholders throughout the entire ISD but mostly the math teachers and uh we focused on a vision force overall mission that's on here and
then the belief statements these are researchbased instructural strategies that are best for learning ma teaching and learning mathematics and so this is the the the canvas if you will for the HQIM we're going to adopt next month. So these are all what we're expecting each of our stakeholders to do. If you'll turn the page, you'll see that the the actions from the students are in four different colors. And on the page previously, you'll see that those are aligned to balance, conceptual, and procedural norms, depth of key concepts, coherence, key concepts, and productive struggle. The idea that you don't give up right away, but you work your way through it, carry forward learning. And so you'll see what we expect students in those four different areas. Then our teachers, campus leaders, our central office including superintendent
and then the families. And whenever we put these expectations out there, we're able to make decisions based on this. And the HQI will go out on top of this and we'll say, okay, well, we want our families to do this to support instruction. So at home we will send home things extra materials for mathematics and we'll also send it with some ways to to extend the learning that's happening in the classroom and then our expectation of the families that they'll take that and they'll move on. So that's in a nutshell that's what this is and we can talk about this it took several months to create we talk about it for hours but it is going to be the fabric of what we do. the other bedroom. The other bedroom is the cornerstone. I like
it. >> So, I'd ask that you would uh adopt this as present. >> Any questions? Discussion. >> I move to adopt as a motion second. A motion second. All in favor say I. I opposed. Moves us to item 8 B is consider approval of the resolution number 05-26 for the district to pay employees during the closing due to bad weather. We had uh four missed days. This resolution allows us because those days not to have to have employees make up time and miss time they had. And so without this, we would have to have certain employees come in while others didn't have to. And we don't want that. So we we would ask we pass this resolution for those four days so that everybody gets the paycheck. >> Any questions? We got a second. Shel
all in car I move to item 8 C which is a a motion for an item to approve all policies DGA EFB NFA and FNC as present usually policy updates get put in consent agenda but I wanted to talk through this so everybody's clear that the ISD is making the decision and who we are and they understand we're thinking and why u two of these could be putting this in agenda one cell phone policy that is EF excuse me that is the uh FPNC and then the EF is instructional um is how we do the uh library materials and those things we already discussed in July and in August we just have policy updates this is going to complete that uh but DGA and FNA deal with religion and praying and religious materials in school
And the state passed a law during this last session, SB11, and it says in there that the school district is going to adopt a time for prayer and reading and religious materials for our students and then our staff as well. And so school districts are making a decision. Do we do this or could we not do this? And either one of those decisions comes with the risk. And so I just want to take a minute and explain the risk. the risk if we decide not to do this, we would pass this resolution that was sent out and a lot of districts are choosing to do this and it says no, we already have a time of prayer anytime you want. We don't need to designate one and uh and so a lot of districts you
see them not adopting a time of prayer. They're choosing to go this way. The risk if we do this is adverse action by the state which could include things like conservatorship. It could include a lack of funding because they will purge strings something that we're not in a financial position to be able to withstand. And so, uh, the alternative if we adopt this these two policies and we say, "Yes, before school or after school, whatever, um, myself and the team if this gets adopted comes up with outside instructional time, we're going to designate a time where students, if they wish, they can come to pray. staff can do the same. We'll have to designate a person in there. They'll have every student coming will have to have a parent permission form. They can't just come
and and uh and be there. We'll have to have some stipulations. That's all in the law. And uh same thing with staff. Staff would have to give us a sign thing saying that they they understand that they're by going there they they are going to hear religion. Um the risk here is that we could be sued if we adopt this. we could be sued by the ACLU and the Freedom from Religion folks. And and so no matter what we do as districts, it's unfortunate sometimes litigation uh laws get passed that cause litigation or they cause us to question uh whether we should adopt it and we could lose funding. That's the situation right now. And so my recommendation is to go with the minority in other districts and adopt the state policy and then the
team will come up with a time of prayer. Not that students can't pray anytime they want. It's not saying you can't. It's just saying we're setting aside a time or place where you go if you would like to. So that's that's what I would like to do is to designate a time of prayer. And the risk then would be that by doing this we could be sued by the ACLU for freedom from religion. But I think that's the lesser of the two risks that we have listen it will staff will have designated staff members and we have to come up with all the procedures. I want the specifics when we pass this uh because I need to go back to my team to stay on each campus. What's the best time? What's the best location?
What's the best staff member that that would want to to be in there? So, it would probably be another half hour and it's probably going to be a small site in each one of the districts each one of the campuses within our district. we have to ask somebody to do and they would the person have to be uh in that position to then oversee the permission forms and and make sure things get handled right by the parents. In no way is this having our staff members go in there and and give a service to the students. That happens maybe in fellowship of Christian athletes. They can do stuff like that but this is something separate where it's a designated time prayer and study and reading a religious text and it's overseen by sat basically facilitating
the time and place and that's making available you just can't leave no sign it is monitor and and in no way do I want it to come across that we're saying in any way that this is the only time where our students and staff can come to pray because um that's the fear of some of the pastors that said we should not do this >> but we're not in a financial situation where we can say state we're not going to do it even if that's how we felt I don't think that's the wisest thing for us because we're going to allow our students to pray whenever they want to we don't stop but obviously we can't interrupt instructional time. That's always been the case. So, my recommendation would be for you to um pin any
questions you have approved before local policies ask questions coming. No, I just I mean I understand the argument I guess the concern about the state I'm just not sure how works and what that I don't again I'm with you by no means is this a limitation on when or how uh students choose or don't choose or staff choose again I don't know I'm guessing theater option just trying to try to understand what is I get suicid what the what the risk is on do and guidance even says that if we choose not to the risk is right it's very clear doesn't know what the risk is it's unknown there may be nothing you know probably 80% of districts who are saying I want to pass this resolution say they want to do anything and they're
saying no to adopting anytime. I don't know the percentage but from the all the people I talked to it's about an 8020 split >> but we all agree there's a risk from this position where we have to make a decision the risk of losing we don't know what funding or whatever it is we don't know versus the risk of obviously there is very much risk and mitigating risk right by not preaching I don't think short of that I think that the ACLU was a religion having a Yes. And we're not waiting not making somebody show up. >> But the argument there is that they're going to feel pressure to show high. >> You think you get the large majority of schools as the state will have some sort of reaction response there? >> Oh, very
likely. and and I think this is going to be one of those bills where we seeing the the 90th the next legislative session. They're going to redact it. I've already been talking to to uh Senator Paboo's office and Representative Len. I talked to her specifically and and there's a lot of things that happen in the 89 that need to be protracted. This is one of them. This is one of the main things because students and and I can only speak to what happens in the rural schools that I've no idea but feel like we make all these laws for the big districts and by doing that it puts us in position. Well, I can I can speculate why they did It's not one day that happened, but it has to do with promises made, promises
kept saying prayer until prayer. So in most schools, I would say most schools in Texas don't limit student to your point. I mean there is I'm not sure how this cheese some folks possibility got but they hold the camera eventually some kind of or even oversight we don't even want that and You know, I've been wrestling with this for for weeks because there's no right answer. I think the right answer, my recommendation is we follow the law, but we do so in a way that's a public approach. We document everything. We make sure that the student wants to come and occur. We have the right form bill that fire lawyers and they make sure that it's signed and submitted and can be removed at any time by parent phone call. So if we did this
adopted in a few years from now track students I don't think it changes anything. I think if there's if there's a a law that if they adapt this law, I think we say we could easily say we're going to they love it and they're going, we can say we're just going to keep it. Nothing's kept us from doing this before. Any additional questions or comments? Motion motion presented as presented by >> second motion second. All those in favor say I. >> That will move us to item eight or nine 9B sorry 8B which is consider approval of submitting a this school day waiver to the DEA. So with your approval, we'll submit a miscellane waiver. The way this works is we had enough med for one day. Then we had enough school days. We had
there is only two days automatically. And so that Thursday is the one day we can make up. So we're putting in a waiver in this school day waiver. And by doing this, once we submit it's approved, they just have to make it one day. And we're going to do that through Monday following spring forever. And it still leaves one bad weather day. Should anything else happen, we have that bad weather. >> So I'd ask that you would uh approve that as present. >> I'll make a motion to approve those. Second motion second. All those in favor say I. >> I. passes that will move us into nine which is close session.
