Good evening everyone. Board is already convening in open session and time is class 45. Please remember that item do not have to be taken as it has been listed. Again, thank you all for joining us and Please console. This portion of our meeting is superintendent report and announcement. Thank you coach board. Well, we have a lot of things going on this week uh the last few weeks getting ready for the break which I believe everybody's ready for staff and students alike. They have they have definitely earned it. Uh so we are excited about that. Um couple of neat things going on right now. Students needing tech services on a school issued device at high school uh will likely have the Chromebook prepared by a fellow student. Six NHS seniors in a practicum practicum of it
taught by Anaisa Wanik are spending a couple hours a week working on Chromebooks of fellow students serving both software and hardware problems in a help desk setup at the school library. The students launched their program a couple of months ago after undergoing training provided by Jace Park and Debon Gil and Ben Harris from NIST technology department. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the practical students arrive at NHS library to grab a stack of laptops, computers waiting on them, and they begin matching up the devices with work orders that have already been entered into the district's online teaching system. That assigns a computer and a technology repair to staff. Beginning next month, Miss Wix is going to have expand the program with more IT students. And I should also mention that Maxpace donated individual tool kits for the
students to use. Five of the kits are going to pract and three of them are going to our robotics classes. This is a great program and we thank Knackpace for the generous donation of tool kits. Yesterday, 14 projects involving 21 high school seniors at NHS uh and members of our Stephen F. Austin STEM Academy displayed their work during the science and engineering fail field fair helped Malcolm Reker Center of Advanced Careers Innovation. Projects exhibited by the students involve fields related to animal science, plant science, microbiology, material science, sustainable materials and design, engineering, technology, statistics and dynamics, systems, software and mathematics. The projects represent culmination of two years of work and are the students final assignment as graduating members of the STEM Academy. Uh, and I will say this, I went by there and saw a
lot of those uh projects and I was kind of blown away that these were actually high school seniors coming up with these things. Um, not just the the research that they did and the findings that they had, but the actual interest that they had were so varied. Uh, and it was just kind of amazing to think that these were high school level kids, especially since they started this as sophomores and juniors. Uh, so uh, it was just really really eye opening and they were all very passionate about it. So, uh, we're excited. We expect some big things to come to them in the future. One of them developed an app that I would imagine we're going to see at some point somewhere, but uh so keep an eye out for that. Along those same lines,
we've had a number of fine arts performances this month. Obviously Christmas themed. Uh the same thoughts apply here. Our students are so talented. Last week, we saw the great Brigade Choir perform in this building and at the Rotary Club keeping alive a tradition that dates back to 1944. I believe that was your first year. Uh during our ribbon cutting for this facility, the choir from Mcichel performed and on Monday, the combined bands from High School and Michael Middle School held their annual Christmas concert. These are just a few of the events that have taken place, but the performances are so well done. All of this reminds me, like I've said a million times already since I've been here, this place is so talented with students and staff. uh for for that go just as not
to be the flagship of East Texas is just an impossibility. I know that we're going to be able to do that even tonight. You see the jazz band just phenomenal of what these kids can do and play instruments. And finally, here's some more good news for students and staff. Nagos ISD will begin Christmas break with an early release for students on Friday, December 19th. NISD will be closed for Christmas break beginning Monday, December 22nd through Friday, January 2nd. Teachers and staff will return on Monday, January 5th for a work day and a professional development while students will return to classes on Tuesday, January the 6th. So, we just want to be sure to wish everybody a safe and merry Christmas and a happy new year. And that is it for my house. >> Okay. Thank
you. >> Okay. We have a portion of public comment. We have not received any request to address the board. However, for those who are interested to address the board in the future, the instructions are listed with the meeting notice. Okay, we move on to the tonight's report. We only have one report and that is going to be done by Mr. Ben Everline, chief chief financial officer. >> Yes, sir. President, board of trustees, Superintendent Burton. Um, the only report we have tonight is the the business office reports that you get every month. Uh, just for your review, if you have any questions, uh, please feel free. >> Um, I'd also like to just in consent there's our donations. Just like to touch on the one donation that we got this month. NHS received $465 from Andy
Matar Construction LLC for HOSA conference needs. We certainly Okay, now we move to consent agenda. Unless you move from consent agenda, all items listed will be acted on with one motion. If there's a board member who wishes to discuss another items on their agenda separately, please indicate the agenda letter that could be set aside for further discussion on a separate vote. Board members, are there any question concerning consent agendas? If not, we ask for a motion. >> We approve consent agenda. I'll second. >> All in favor by saying I >> same sign. Motion carries. Now we are discussion and action agenda. We have three items on discussion and action agenda. Item A is tonight there is no action resulting from discussion in close session. Item B is consideration of and board action on 2026 2027
High School guide and new person represented Dr. Dea Hill. >> Good evening, President Board of Trustees, Superintendent Burton. I first want to say a huge thank you to Mrs. Bra and Mr. Lucina for their help in constructing this and then collaborating on the courses that we would like to propose to offer for the 26 27 school year. So in your book we are on page the course guide begins on page 152 of your board. Then on page 254 begins the list of new courses that I do also want to say that there is a document that is in your folder as close. >> I can't read your language. I am so sorry. Would you like for me to start over? >> No. >> Okay. So on page 254 you have the document that should be
in your PDF that on your screen but I did have one addition that I forgot and remembered early early this morning and so it is on your low sleeve document um within your folder. So what we are proposing that we are adding is a total of 10 new courses. Six of them will be in the CTE area and then three are core subjects which will be electives. questions that you may have about >> I don't have any question but I encourage everybody to go meet the CT program sometimes you will be the most impressed with the way the work they do >> very much so yes and of course that we are adding well of course um they are in existing um pathways that we currently have um we were very specific in looking at
the the uh state of Texas CTE guide that they put out and we also at it from a standpoint of what is really going to be of interest to the students. And so you'll even see video game design as a potential new offering at the middle school. >> Any questions? We have a lot of courses and uh there's our principal and thank you for what you do to make those courses possible at the high school and also we have a lot of Michael so particularly in CTE we're growing and that's good all good7 of course I motion all in favor say I oppose same sign okay item is consideration action proposal of the districtwide access Mr. M. Good evening, President Nurmont, members of the board, Mr. Bergens. Uh, it's a pleasure this evening to be
before you to uh talk about a proposal that we have gone out and taken a look at. On November the 3rd, 2025, Nakadotic ISIS accepted a DI proposal for a district-wide access control and camera upgrade project. The project includes a comprehensive redesign and replacement of all service, upgrades to many existing cameras, and the implementation of a new video management system across the district. The scope also includes the installation of an allnew centralized access control panels and distributed power system and new access control readers with integrated video monitoring for all exterior doors. Exterior doors that do not typically open during the school day will be equipped with the appropriate access control measures. This proposal provides for reabling of all access control equipment with leveraging existing category 5 and category 6 cabling and existing cameras identified as
being in good working conditions. The vendor will furnish all the labor for installation and will closely coordinate with all Macd staff. The total breaks down the project breaks down as follows. We have a total project cost of $3,619,46828. This includes a 3,266,576.84 84 cents to Motorola Solutions which includes a 5% contingency $199 $29144 to Absolute Technology $3,600 for GML technology group and then a contingency of $150,000 again totaling 3 million 19,619,42 $2828. I will uh let the board know that there have this project or this particular looking at this has been going on for over two years. It we have thorough going over and over uh this project many times uh counting cameras looking at doors looking at door access controls. Uh, with that said, I'd like to thank just a few folks. Uh, with
us from Digi Group is George Sanchez and Tucker Jordan. They're here tonight. Um, they have been helping us with these solutions. Also like to thank our police chief, uh, Chief Joel Barton, um, our director of safety, um, Mrs. Del Rosa, Susan Delar Rosa, all of our police officers who have walked the campuses with kids with our Digi group. I'd like to thank our tech coordinator, Miss Morris. Uh Miss Cindy, uh Smith is in the visual room. There are so many people that have been involved in this. Our principles, uh walking canvases, uh looking at areas that uh that right now we're not able to cover with our existing video systems, looking at our doors, looking at how they the traffic patterns. Uh there's a lot of study that has gone into this proposal that we
bring to you tonight. And with that I'll >> Martin are that the amount of money comes from the school district or the portion of it would be granted. >> I'm glad you asked. Uh the majority vast majority of this project will be funded by the safe cycle one grant uh for a total of uh 3 million. I'm sorry. 2.4 million will be uh purchased we will purchase through the grant funding and then about 690,000 we're asking out of local funds >> estimation how many camera actually >> total >> yes >> approximately 533 >> we believe so yes sir uh some of the camera the technology is great. I was talking to Mr. Jordan earlier this afternoon where we may have one camera right now has one lens points one way doesn't move the newer technology
it may have three lenses in it looks three different directions so we only purchase one camera yes it costs a little bit more but it's better >> well what what goes on basically I guess everybody watches the news school has 1200 plus camera still that's Anyways, I'm a public person and I'm totally in favor of it. As a matter of fact, the more detail we can get, the better we off. >> Yes, sir. The the great thing about it is we're not building ourselves into a car. It is expandable. So, if we if we install this system and we see that there are areas that we need to address, then we can also we can go back and ask. >> Are this camera also license driver I mean license plate reader as well? >> They
do have the capability. Yes, sir. In fact, and also I missed out. I missed the opportunity to let you know that there is a 5year warranty. Uh with this project, there are a lot of advanced technologies that are incorporated into the system such as license breakers as you mentioned a moment ago and some detectors uh that go in our bathrooms, eight detectors. uh we've looked at all types of different securities and then there's another security module that we may be bringing to you later on that uh also integrates with this. So we're looking longterm. We're not looking to just purchase some right now. I understand I'm sure we're able to see not only within the campus outside the campus neighborhood too as well. >> Am I correct? >> Oh, I'm always of knowing what's going
on. >> Yes, sir. >> This this uh system also interacts with local water. they can grab or grab from us to look at what they need to and so there's no big time right but they have access >> yes our law enforcement agencies here uh our sheriff's department I see our uh deputy sheriff uh Austin McDonald back here uh he has been he's on our safety and uh he the sheriff's department they approaches the system it does operate with the that our police officers have and uh in the event of of some type of the they will be able to talk to one another and see what's going on inside of the buildings through the radio. Yes, sir. >> Okay. The warranty on these place the cameras and things that are placed is that a
one-year warranty or how long does it last? >> Yes, sir. And what's the extended lifespan at this time? What would they estimate? Is it going to be six, eight, 10? I know technology will advance, but if we had to, we could use them for longer. >> Yes, sir. Yes, sir. I don't think the techn is there a time that they do glitch like it glitches, it's not fixed or it mess messes up in the next first two months or three months. We don't pay a service call for that. That how long will they until they get all working. >> Yes, sir. >> When do we pick up? Is there a service contract on these and what does it cost? >> We have a 5year warranty. >> A five year warranty. >> That's good. >> Question.
I believe safety of our students and faculty and staff neighborhood. >> Mr. I just wanted to say to everybody that's been a part of this how much I appreciate the that it took to go in and buy this. And as much as the safety is so important, so is being financially and you guys went out and got pretty significant amount of public grant and I I just want to be sure the public understands how important that assistance is because I mean it's almost $4 million and that's that's not a drop in the bucket. So I appreciate even the efforts of finding the funding from everybody that >> said is there any more com And before we go, I'm sorry we have I have one more thing to say in case you you heard earlier today
that Brady was not with us tonight. We wanted to visit with her prior to saying this, but her mother actually passed away. So if you would uh just keep that family in your prayers. Um we know it's a hard time because it doesn't matter what age you are when your mom dies. the situation. So, just be sure you remember them. Uh, and again, thank you all for being here tonight. Hope you have a blessed Christmas. That's good.
