[applause] Thank you very much, Miss Alv and everyone from Laon Elementary. Next, we're going to have Gria High School Principal Delma Martinez. >> Now, before you all leave, ladies and gentlemen, uh we do have some snacks for you all to everybody for that's being honored here today. Make sure you get
010some. They look delicious. So, please make sure before you leave, pick up a snack and a beverage. >> Good evening, Dr. Vera, school board president, members of the board, Miss Gara, superintendent of schools. Uh, today I am honored to recognize Sebastian Fernandez, who qualified for the state cross country championship held in Round Rock, Texas. Sebastian represented Gria High School and Star County with great pride and determination. He competed he competed amongst the best runners in the state and achieved an outstanding accomplishment, placing 28 out of 152 runners. We are extremely proud of Sebastian for his dedication, hard work, and the way he continues to exemplify true Gator spirit. Congratulations, Sebastian Fernandez. At this time, please [applause] give him At this time, please give him a round of applause. I would also like to recognize head
011coach Sandor Lopez for a job well done. Good job. Congratulations. [applause] All right. Congratulations to everybody and thank you parents for for bringing your kids and staff for supporting these kids. Uh section five, reports and information. Item eight is going to be report on elimination of TSI and dual credit fees. Madame President, um I just want to make everyone aware here that for years our students have paid a $10 fee for each TSI exam and $150 for every dual enrollment three-hour course after their first 15 hours at both Rio High and Guruya High uh with the exemption of early college because that is within their blueprint. However, uh this year I'm happy to announce that because we have managed to strengthen our district's finances, we're finally in a position to remove those costs entirely. We
012do not feel that our students should have to pay for something that we as a district should be responsible to ensure that they do have that opportunity to move forward. And though it might not seem when you look at $10 uh you know per TSI or $150, it might not seem like it's a lot for many families, but for many that is a barrier. That is um a a reason uh you know what whether they would move forward or not. So eliminating uh these fees is just another way that we are putting as a district the focus on where it belongs and that focus is on our students. So we're very happy, madame president, board members to announce that we will be removing those fees uh once again because we feel that we are in
013a position financially as a district now that we are able to do so. So I just wanted to share that with you all. Thank you. >> Miss Garasak, I have a question real quickly. I think it's fantastic that you're removing the TSI and the dual credit. Can I just ask what percentage of our kids are passing the TSI when they become seniors? Do you have any idea at Rio or Rio Grandandy City? >> At what percent do we have them passing? >> How how many how many what's the percentage of people who pass a TSI as a in your >> Do we have that exact uh percent? I think she's here >> cuz I don't have that exact percent for you. What I can do what I can answer you uh Mr. Mr. Uh, I'm
014sorry, Mr. Variel, is that now because we're allowing this opportunity this opportunity where we're removing the the cost, our students are actually coming out and we're enforcing and making sure that our students are testing the TSI. But we'll give you those numbers if you're interested in that. Sir, >> maybe I could ask uh are we are are we providing tutorials for our children for TSI or not? >> Okay, good evening everyone. Uh yes, we are providing tutorials at all three campuses and the barrier the $10 fee is a barrier. So some students wouldn't test. So I think we removing the fee. We're going to be able to uh address the uh be able to test more students at the campus so we can make make sure that we are able to increase our CCMR outcome
015bonus. >> Do you know the percentage of passing as seniors at TSI more >> the passing right now? It is there was a dip there was a dip in the in the in the enroll in the passing rate through region one across the state for two years and we're going back up. So it's at a 16% right now. Okay, correct me if I'm wrong. If they don't pass a TSI that if they go to college, they're going to take remedial courses. Correct or not? >> If they do, if they do, they are able to take the college prep classes and our teachers are trained through region one. Their students need to be enrolled in the college prep class and they are waved uh if they uh successfully pass the TSI college prep classes. >> I
016think it's really important that we provide tutorials to get that thing way up there. it it because once they go to college they will enter their coursework immediately instead of taking a lot of remedial courses. Correct. >> Correct. Correct. But we do provide tutorials at all three campuses and they do the campuses also providemies for our students. >> I think this is a great initiative to start addressing the TSI even a little >> early. That's one of the goals. That's one of the goals that we do have. Correct. Uh we did go to several trainings and our goal right this year of course we we for both ELR and math we're going to try and uh uh with our ninth graders our algebra 1 and our 10th graders geometry class we're going to we're trying
017to get those TSI all the students to test the TSI in math at that grade level and any of the students that got the meets and masters in uh the EOCC's we're going to get those students to test. So the the $10 fee we we that will help us to go into big groups in classes and all that. >> Yes. So I want to congratulate Miss Gara. I think this is a very it it seems small like she said the $10, but I think it's a very important initiative to push our kids into being ready for college. Um I think your vision when when she told us, you know, this is something that we are looking into doing, uh the board I think um backs her up 100%. Anything having to do with helping our
018students um financially uh academically be be better prepared for college is something that we're always going to um >> support. Correct. >> support. So, thank you so much, Miss Garza, for for having this vision and and for doing this for our kids. Even the $150, I think that's a a pretty chunky amount um for for the for having the dual enrollment classes. I know my daughter lived it and I I you know you you do that sacrifice for them but I do know that there's a lot of parents out there that that couldn't and they message me and they tell me you know is there any way that this could be waved but it was something that we were doing throughout the district. So I think this is definitely going to help help and encourage
019our students um to start off getting you know more of their credits and and be more prepared for college. So thank you very much. >> Thank you Miss Gara. Um section B, report on intruder detection audit report findings. >> I move that we move 5B 5C to executive session since it deals with intruder detection and audit reports. >> All right. And item um D report on resultsdriven accountability RDA as performance. Good evening madam president uh members of the board and superintendent Miss Gara. We have a short clip for you with all the information on our results for the RDA for the 2025 school year. >> Good evening, members of the board and superintendent Garza. Tonight, I'll be sharing our district's results driven accountability, RDA, outcomes for special education for the 2024 2025 school [music] year.
020The RDA system evaluates how districts improve outcomes for students with disabilities. It considers multiple measures including star performance, [music] graduation and dropout rates and discipline data. This year our district received a determination level two [music] need assistance which indicates we are making progress but still have key areas for improvement in domain [music] one. One of our biggest strengths this year is the growth across most tested areas. Our instructional and intervention supports are showing a positive impact. Moving forward, our focus areas will be improving literacy outcomes and supporting English one and English 2 retesters [music] as these remain our greatest opportunities for growth. In domain 2, we continue to see strong results in both graduation and dropout [music] indicators. Our programs and supports are helping students with disabilities stay on track toward graduation and successful [music]
021transitions. Domain 3 focuses on two critical areas. The [music] least restrictive environment or LRE and discipline. This domain measures how [music] well our district ensures that students with disabilities are included with their peers in general education settings and how equitably discipline is applied. We've made progress in inclusion practices [music] with more students receiving services in general education classrooms and we've seen a reduction in in school suspension [music] cases. However, we continue to focus on reducing disproportionality and disciplinary removals, ensuring every student [music] has access to supportive, inclusive, and equitable learning environments. As we wrap up, here are our [music] key takeaways from this year's RDA report. Overall, our district [music] remains at needs assistance. Determination level two. We're seeing steady academic [music] growth, particularly reflected in our star and graduation outcomes. However, our behavioral data
022still requires continued monitoring to ensure consistency and equity [music] across campuses. Looking ahead, our priorities include strengthening inclusive practices, expanding [music] literacy supports, and implementing more proactive interventions to meet the diverse needs of our students with disabilities. Together, we remain [music] deeply committed to ensuring academic success and equity for all students with disabilities. Thank you for your continued support [music] and partnership in this work. At this time, I'd be happy to answer any questions. Quote, >> actually, I'd be happy to answer any questions, but y'all have any questions for me? >> This this was an independent audit that was done through region one. Am I correct? >> No, this is this is actually the state the state already released the determination level for RDA. What we have presented before was just the prelims, but it's
023official already. We are determination level two. What that means that we just need improvement. The good thing is in the prior years we'd had to uh submit a strategic support plan to tea. This year level determination level twos do not. So we're just going to do a local one and we've already had trainings with our uh campus administrators um and we've shown them what RDA is and where they're at and specifically where their campus is at so that we can continue to grow. >> Very good. Well, I want to congratulate of course you Her Melinda, Miss Aala, Mr. Guerrero, Mr. Elizabeth. Congratulations. It's your first year uh you know handling Mike for Mike and there you've done a fantastic job so far is that we're I'm I'm beyond impressed because you're new to this and
024to bring it up to a level where you don't have to submit a report to TA. That's good news to us. So, congratulations and thank you. >> Our goal is determination level one for next year. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Thank you, ma'am. All right, section six. We're now on section six. Consent agenda items for consent items listed on the agenda that we previously discussed and presented at the board workshop. At this time, can I have a motion to approve consent agenda items A through D? >> So move. >> Can I have a second? >> Second. All those in favor, raise your right hand. And motion passes. Section seven, business operations facilities. Item 7 A, consider and take possible action on request from HB013 to use Ringold Elementary School facility to host the annual fees for
025sharing. >> I think this is something that we do every year if I'm not mistaken. So I move that we accept uh as as present the motion is presented. >> Second, Paty and all those in favor raise your right hand and motion passes. Section eight, office of human resources. Item 8A, 2025, Vader election canvasing of results. >> This is just good evening, Madam President, members of the board. Miss Garasa, superintendent of schools to community, the official Vader election results for canvasing. We have a total for the RGC GISD Vader election in favor 776 against 2,2 18. This is after the provisional ballots have been reviewed. Uh three ballots were not approved and the rest were counted. These are the official results for canvasing. >> Thank you, >> Mr. Salenas. I have a a few questions
026that I could ask. I'm going to read something prescribed by the Secretary of State uh section 87.022 and 87.025 Texas Education Code notice of uh conveying of early voting ballot board for the purpose of qualifying and or counting the early vote ballots cast in an election time, place, and location. Did we put that notice up? >> No, sir. >> Okay. That's violation of of of the law. Let me ask another question. I've got it here. Give me just a second. >> Hold on, Mr. Would you like to add anything to that, Dr. Selenas? I mean, because he just ended it with that's a violation of the law. I don't know if Dr. SAS, you have anything to add to that, sir. >> So, as the administrator involved for the election, I take full responsibility for
027not posting that that notice. Um, I know we did work closely with the election officials, correct? >> Not throw anybody under the bus publicly, but I I will take full responsibility for that. >> I've got another one, and maybe you could help me out. Section 420002 of the code requires that you use county election precincts for the following election. General election, special election, countywide election, elections held by a political subdivision. M >> Mr. Viel, if you don't mind, sir, I'm just going to ask a legal very quickly. Uh if that is still part of the canvasing that is still part of this agenda and we can discuss that right now. >> I've got a question ma'am and it's real simple to ask. We got >> again Mr. V if you don't mind sir we don't
028you know let's let's go ahead and and just uh ask for a motion and and vote. >> Okay. Uh I think that's it. I don't think we need anything as >> presented. So move >> and a second. >> Thank you Dr. Selena. >> Discussion ma'am. >> All those in favor >> discussion >> raise your right hand. >> There has to be no discussion. We're violating the law. >> Discussion. >> We're going to have discussion. Um all right. So I want to make sure that one thing I clarify with this is that citizens, the community members will have a raise in their taxes. They will see a raise in their taxes um and their district taxes and we want to make sure that we do not blame this majority board for those raises. You all have
029to consider that these races will come from the 2021 bond election that Mr. Bacho was majority in and that was not completed. All our bond um all the money that we have raises in taxes this next year will be responsibility of that board majority. I want to make sure that we clarify that because people will be seeing an increase in their taxes uh for the school district and they will want to come and blame this majority board majority and I want to clarify that this board majority will not be responsible for that tax increase that we will be seeing. Well, can I ask a question, Mr. Rosalinas? Or maybe then we repurposed uh I guess 112 million. Could we use that money to pay down on the on the bond debt? >> So, I I
030I really want to not go into an item that's not on the agenda since we only have the canvasing on here. Okay. >> Uh to answer your question, we can get an answer for that and we can work with your bond council to answer that since that is a bond question uh over a legal question for us. The last the last question I have and I have no more questions. In the law of the election, it's prescribed that we open up at the county sites and we didn't do that. >> We did we we did open Mr. Mr. Ediad. So we had the So that provision that you're specifying applies only to early votes and we did comply with that. It does not apply to election day and so for election day we were able
031to re to come back to our own sites but for early vote it was required and we did do we did do that. Can you look at the law because I I believe the law says you have to open up on the county commissioners and in the precinct they opened up. >> Yes. And so um again that that specifically applies to early vote and that specific uh entire chapter is explicitly for early voting not for election day. >> And I'm talking about election day. I'm not talking early vote. What do you early voting? You can >> for election day that was not required. >> So you're saying it's not required to uh vote in the precincts >> precinct. for election day, the district can designate its election sites and consolidate precincts and that's what they
032did and that is allowable under the law. >> Okay. >> And if you don't mind, go ahead, sir. >> I was just going to say that this is not really a discussion item. It's literally just reading the numbers and accepting them because you're just canvasing. That's all you're doing. >> Correct. Thank you, Mr. Ramirez. And and because of that, Mr. Variel, I'd like to remind you that I'm available to receive your phone calls anytime you want any questions answered. Just give me a call and I will answer those questions for you. Mr. River, I would have answered those for you beforehand. Okay. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Then with that said, can you get me the full results of the election and send them to me, please? >> I'm not I'm not sure. Okay. He
033doesn't need to go >> by by election. That's all. >> Okay. And and again, I don't think we need to be discussing this at a board meeting. If you can call me, I will always accept your call. Let's go. Call the question to order, please. Let's call the question again. Motion. >> All right. So, we got a motion and we got a second. Um, all those in favor, raise your right hand. I >> And motion passes. Next, curriculum and instruction item 9A. Consider and take possible action on DMAC Espire Region One. Good evening, uh, Madame President, Dr. Bara, uh, board members, uh, superintendent of the schools, Miss Wata. Um, and special guest tonight. So, we are bringing to the board the approval of the purchase of the Edspire software through DMAC. Um, this software will
034help uh, gather all of our data and give us a prescriptive uh, design. in as far as ensuring that we're on the right path to meeting our goals. This will help um all our elementaryaries, middle, and high school as well as uh de they will come in and train our admins and district directors as well to ensure that all of our data is in place to meet our goals for the year. Thank you. All right. Can I have a motion to approve item 9A as presented? >> So move. >> Can I have a second? >> Second. All those in favor raise your right hand and motion passes. Item 9B, consider and take possible action on Gria High School PEK application. Yes. So we are uh seeking approval to apply uh on behalf of Gria High
035School to become a PEK Academy school. This will take us into a planning year next year. So it'll be in full effect for 2728 school year. >> Can you explain a little bit about what a PEK school entails? >> Yes. PEK stands for the Pathways and Technology Early College High School. So, uh unlike early college where it's more like on the dual side, PEK is more on the workforce where they'll get their certifications, industry based um degrees to help them as soon as they graduate, they're set for the more the workforce uh area. >> Is this a competitive uh application or is it pretty if you apply, you're going to get it? >> Um we have a we have a good chance. We don't have it in our in our district, the PEK. Um it
036is something that is uh gaining popularity because it does give us additional funding. >> Yeah. But I'm saying is it something that if you apply you get it or is it a competitive? >> It's not guaranteed. It's not guaranteed. We apply. It's not guaranteed. Um but we are uh >> we have already gone through region one. They've helped us in the application. Everything looks good. Um we're going to submit and um [clears throat] you know hope for for the best. But we do have a very good uh chance of >> what is it? What does the P stand for in the P tech? >> Pathways. The pathways, the different pathways and technology. >> Thank you very much. >> Can I have a motion to approve item 9B as presented? >> So move >> and second.
037>> Second. >> All those in favor raise your right hand. And motion passes. Item 9 C. Consider and take possible action on Real Grande City High School early college application. So now we also seek approval to make Rio real Grandandy City High School an early college. Um again much like the PEK at Griahai this um application will propel us into a planning year for 2627 so that in 2728 we uh if if accepted becomes a designated early college high school. >> I have one question ma'am. If if the real Grandandy City High School, which I think is a great idea, becomes an early college, like you say, what's going to happen to the early colleges that we have, are we going to incorporate them into the high school or we going to keep them apart?
038>> No, we had those discussions already with all uh high school principles and uh district leaders. So what we are planning to do if accepted for uh to turn Rio high into an early college is to offer different opportunities, different degrees at each high school. So that depending on the students pathway, let's say they want to go into the health science route, maybe Rio High will offer that whereas early college will offer you know um psychology, sociology or uh criminal justice. So we do want to differentiate so that we provide more options to our students. >> Okay. Thank you for opening those doors of opportunity for our students. I mean, it's welld deserved. I think our students deserve as many opportunities available out there uh that they can get their hands on. I think it's
039a great idea to uh give the students a head start in their careers. So, congratulations and I'm really hoping and praying that we do uh go through with this. >> Another example of of this, you know, that the focus is on getting our kids ready for college and and for the real life out there. Thank you so much. Uh can I have a motion to approve item 9 C and a second? All those in favor raise your right hand. And motion passes. Item 9D, consider and take possible action on SFI BL implementation session for math RLA. So um we're bringing approval uh seeking approval to uh use the grant money that we currently have to extend the planning sessions for uh the remainder of this year but also second semester. Previously, this past summer, you
040all approved and it was only for the fall semester. Now, we're going into the spring. >> All right. Can I have a motion to approve item 9D as presented? >> So, move it. >> And a second. >> Second. >> All those in favor, raise your right hand. And I motion passes. Item 9E, consider and take possible action on revised operations agreement region 1 SB uh 1882. >> So, this is a previously approved item um that included certain campuses. So this is just amending what was passed back in June to include Alberto and Selia Barera Elementary in this uh initiative to uh have that partnership with region 1 through the SB182 initiative as a turnaround campus knowing the um deficiencies that we have there in terms of our pre our accountability rating. This is a decision
041that we felt was very needed um and the support from region one uh is greatly appreciated. >> What do you mean by turnaround campus? Could I ask? So we are um pretty much going in turning around in terms of looking at the curriculum the instruction really dissecting the the issues of what's impeding the learning with the students because they are an off campus the scores were really really low um not only in star but also in Telpas. So it's going in and uh with the assistance of region one as well as our district leaders and ensuring uh doing like a landscape analysis to see what is the problem, what is uh lacking, what is the gap and then targeting the instruction that is needed with those students. And so far what we've seen is that
042there's just a lot of um additional support that is needed for tier 2, tier three instruction. So our curriculum is a tier one instruction that is at a very high rigor and that's wonderful but certain students are um you know missing the mark. So we're going to provide that support in a in a different innovative way. That's the turnaround concept. >> Last question. Does that turnaround campus only specifically mean one or are we talking the rest of them also? >> Uh the turnaround is exclusive to ACB. The other uh 1882 uh uh campuses are more innovative. the STEM steam component uh such as Aldoito and Roger Gera. >> Okay. >> Once again, Miss Carmon, I want to congratulate you because now, you know, we're student centered. We're focusing on students. We we're not letting any
043other noise, you know, uh interfere with our kids' education. Uh that's a priority and whatever we have to do for them, uh whether we're an F campus or an A campus, we're going to continue striving forward to make those campuses even better. So, congratulations. >> Thank you so much. >> Thank you very much. Um do I have a motion to approve item 9 as presented? So move >> second. >> All those in favor raise your right hand and motion passes. >> Thank you. We'll continue with section 10 special service department with item 10A. Consider and take possible action onou between Rio Grande Gurua ISD and UTRGB for diagnostician certification program. >> So good evening Dr. Bara school board president board members gualupe superintendent of schools. Ladies and gentlemen, uh the University of Texas Real Grand
044Valley and Real Granny City Guya ISD desire to implement a program agreement that allows UTRGB students enrolled in the educational diagnostician certification program to complete a required practicum hours within district campuses. Uh this agreement supports aspiring diagnosticians by providing supervised hands-on experience aligned with Texas education's requirements and the university's curriculum. Can I have a motion to approve item 10 10 A as presented? >> So move. >> Second. >> All those in favor raise your right hand. And motion passes. Item 10B, consider and take possible action on 2025 2526 special education stipen. So the special education service uh service services sorry special services department is recommending this all special uh education teachers in real granny city ISD uh receive a stipend of $1,000 for the 2526 school year and there is eligibility criteria for that. Uh
045teachers uh do need to uh h hold a special education certification. They also need to serve students receiving special education services in a resource inclusion or a self-contained unit for at least half of the instructional day. And they also need to attend required special education trainings throughout the school year. >> You'll be holding these uh teachers accountable, right, Mr. for attending or meeting those three criteria that they have to meet. Also, I mean, I think special ed has been overwhelmed and and I know that because I hear it every day at home. Uh overwhelmed with uh with uh all types of paperwork and I think that there one of many uh departments that work very hard to provide our student with the very best education. So, I think it's uh I mean well deserved by
046all means. >> Yes. Thank you. Can I have a motion to approve item 10B as presented? >> So, move. >> Second. >> All those in favor raise your right hand. That motion passes. Thank you. Section 11, bilingual ESL migrant department. Item 11A, consider and take possible action on fifth grade earth science migrant camp. Good evening, board president, members of the board, and Miss Guadalupe GarcA, superintendent. Fifth grade migrant students from all RGCISD elementary campuses will explore how our planet Earth works and how we can help it thrive. Since many of our students continue to struggle with fifth grade uh star science assessments, this session aims to motivate, inspire, and strengthen their understanding and interest in science. Funding will be available through title one part C migrant. We respectfully recommend and submit for approval the fifth
047grade uh migrant science camp for the 2526 school year. >> When is this camp, ma'am? >> It's going to take place in February. >> Okay. >> Second semester. And this is something that has been going on for yes a long time. So it's nothing new and and the and our students enjoy it. I mean they have they have fun uh setting launching those rockets and having all kinds of fun during those camps. So I so move that we accept as presented. >> Can I have a second? >> All those in favor raise your right hand and motion passes. >> Thank you. We will continue with section 12 guidance and counseling department for item 12A. consider and take possible action onou between the city ISD along and alongside program. >> Good evening madame president, uh members
048of the board, superintendent Gara and everyone here present. Um alongside is a wellness platform for schools. Um it'll be provided for students from fourth grade through 12th grade, everybody from the district. Um additionally it will also be provided for staff members, anybody from the district. Now it is researchbased. It's shown that if used um consecutively it will increase attendance, reduce uh discipline referrals, address anxiety and prevent crisis. So it will help the students. There will be interactive lessons 247 more than 30ome languages. Um this students will not only students but staff members will um take advantage of this opportunity that we have for them through mental health. Now that's not only it. It is free. It is free. This services will be provided free. We do have a grant from uh region one mental health
049grant. They will be taking care of this. Okay. >> So another very very um neat yes thing that we have that we needed. Okay. So uh do I have a motion to approve item 12 a presented? >> So move. >> Can I have a second? >> Second. >> All those in favor raise your right hand. That motion passes. >> Thank you. And welcome, Miss Lonor. Welcome as our new interim uh guidance and counseling director. I know I've known you for years. I know your your work ethic. I know your dedication to and passion towards kids. So, hey, move forward. >> Thank you. Appreciate it. Thank you. Good night. >> Section 13, health services. Item 13A. Consider and take possible action on partnering with Goodsite Health Wellch Child physicals. Good evening, Madame President, ladies and gentlemen
050of the board, Superintendent Gara, staff and community members. So, we're seeking u approval to go on. So, we've already had a partnership with Good Side Health. It is a um uh uh how do I say it? A tele health company that we've had since 2021. So, they're asking us if it would be okay to call parents and uh let them know if they would like to get physicals for their child. So the plan is to call the parents that have already signed up with Goodside Health. They have a list of any kid that has not gotten a physical based on their insuranceances. They would call the parent and ask them, "Hey, would you like us to go to the school district and give them a physical um their yearly checkup?" Parents would then have the
051opportunity to say, "No, I'll go to my my healthcare provider here in Real Granite City." Or they can choose yes. So, um it would be at no cost to the district and it would be a less barrier that a per that a student, you know, uh can get um their yearly. >> Did I hear correctly? It's no cost to the district and no cost to the to the parent. >> Uh they will charge their health insuranceances. So, >> if they have if they have their health insurance, >> and if they don't have health insurance, they're not getting a physical, >> I believe. No, they would they would probably talk to the parent and they're going to say, "If you would like this to proceed, this would be the X amount." And mom, would you like
052to consider it? and they would either say yes or they they'll say no. >> My I guess my question is I would think that it'd be nice to have uh like local doctors like Dr. B, Dr. Stanley have the opportunity of doing something like correct this where they could call our students because you're providing the list of the of all the students to the to this company, right? Good site >> health. Uh yes. Yes, I would look into that. Yes, of course. >> So I don't I just think it's something that we should, you know, our Dr. Shani, Dr. B are the ones that are always donating to our students. They're they're already the ones that are seeing them. Dr. Valencia, I don't know if I left anybody else out, but I think that that's
053something that I would be a little bit more like a little bit more comfortable doing instead of some, >> you know, random um because they're not doing anything for free really for us, you know. >> No, it's insurance like our information, an opportunity to service our kids. >> Correct. Correct. That's my that's my point of view in this. >> Mr. Vera, could I ask you know with the Affordable Care Act, they say that the premiums are going to double, triple, and quadruple in some cases. The question is that when you say they're going to charge the insurance, well, how many people are we going to have that are basically not going to buy insurance because it it got too expensive? >> Correct. Correct. So, these would be for the ones that currently have insuranceances at
054the moment and have signed up with Good Side Health. Um, I don't know how to answer that question, Mr. uh varial in regards to how many parents choose to buy the insurancees or not, but this is just uh an opportunity that we can proceed with or once again we can look for other avenues. >> So, so basically what we're giving them we're giving them our >> our students information to be able just to contact them and the parents will make an informed decision whether they want to or not to get their child the physical or not. Correct. >> Uh so I would say um It's it's it's it's touchy. It's a touchy situation because I know it's our students and we'd want to help our local uh doctors, physicians uh give them that afford them
055that opportunity as well. So >> So if they didn't have insurance, could they pay a fee then? I guess >> uh yes, I'm I'm anybody that >> $75 fee. Uh Paty saying if they don't have >> and I think over insurance, but we have no control over that. whoever affords insurance or not, then if Obamacare or whatever doesn't go through, I mean, that that's something that it's outside of our our control. So, that would be up to the parents final decision. So, >> all right. So, let's vote. Um, can I have a motion to approve item 13A as presented? >> I so move. >> Uh, do I have a second? >> No second. So then it's um it's going to be >> there's no slick. >> No. So >> no. >> So we just table
056it or >> ask motion for >> table. Yeah. >> Okay. >> So then we'll bring it back to this and see what we can do with our local. >> Thank you so much, guys. >> Thank you. Thank you, sir. >> Section 14, executive session. Uh we now move on to section 11, executive session for items A through C as listed on the posted agenda under Texas government code sections 551 071-76 and 551082 through84. The time is now 6:19 p.m. and we're now moving to a second session. The time is now 7:19 p.m. and we're back in open session. May I have a motion for uh item A is a no action. Item B, consider and take possible action on the superintendent's recommendation as discussed in executive session. >> So move. >> Can I have a
057second? >> Second. >> All those in favor raise your right hand. And motion passes. All right. We move on to section 17 which is announcements uh for our upcoming events. Miss Gara. >> Ah public comments. Do we have any public comments? No. Okay. Thank you. And now we move on to uh community events. >> Thank you. Yes, ma'am. First of all, I I do want to say some words on um I was out there to see our state our band uh perform at at state in uh and Mr. Fa was there with me as well um in uh in San Antonio. And it was just I want to say it was just such a beautiful beautiful thing to see our kids perform and and just give it their 100%. I know for a moment there
058I got emotional because our kids from Rio Grande City were out there performing at state and yes we do see you know uh the caliber the caliber of all the other uh camp or or districts that made it um to finals and our kids were right up there with them um that we intend to uh put more into into our fine arts uh Dr. Vera and and school board members. I think our kids deserve that. Um they deserve that. We put more um funding into that as well because as as you have said, Dr. Vera, as well, these kids and and our directors and our coaches give it their all. They're always out there very early in the morning, very late at night, and we don't want um anything uh such as funding to impede
059um their their ability to be able to make it to the finals in state. These were the preliminaries that they made it to, but again, it was beautiful. Um we will be um coming up with hopefully an event to celebrate our both, you know, both bands, but of course, Rio Grande High School that made it to state. So, I think it was just a wonderful thing to see. I don't know if you want to add anything to that, Mr. Fang, since you were there. >> I was going to say something earlier, but I said I better hold off. You might have something planned for the band, but yes, they they played their hearts out. I mean, that band was phenomenal out there. Uh, compared to other bands, I mean, they were right up there with
060them. Uh, unfortunately, you know, we didn't make it past that round, but you know what? I think next year is always there and it's for the taking. I think next year our kids already got a taste of it and they're going to go for the whole enchilada next year. So, I think we're there. >> So, yeah. I want to also congratulate all the students, the staff and the parents um for for a job well done and hopefully next year. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. Um and then also uh tomorrow we begin a new though we've always given you know uh we prepare baskets to our families here in the district. This year we decided um that we would do something different. Our first annual stuff the bus uh event. We will have that tomorrow from
0619:30 to 4:00 and that is for the community to come out and um you just come out and offer your gratitude, you know, offer your kindness um for these families that we have in our community uh that um you know that that we can afford these items to um we do have a lot of communities that have I'm sorry, a lot of businesses that have already signed up that will be out there. We will have, excuse [clears throat] me, we will have our our students from student council to I'm sorry, Mr. Rosa, you keep on pointing something out to me. Is it five o'clock? Did I say something wrong? >> 9 I said 9:00. I'm sorry. I said 9:30. Thank you, sir. 9:00 to 5:00 uh tomorrow again for the community. So, just go out
062there. Let's support this cause. I think it's a great great cause. Uh we'll have our you know, some of our our students out there, our clubs, some of our organizations. So, let's just come together to make this event uh you know, one of one of the greatest events for our community. So, that's going to be on November the 11th. And then we will also continue um the the stuff the bus with our campuses on Wednesday, uh November the 12th. We have uh our people here from uh central office that will be going out to all campuses and collecting canned goods or non-p perishable items that our students and our principles have gathered for this event as well. And then also, and I'm sorry, we do have quite a few things on uh November the 13th
063on Thursday, we have our family literacy family uh family literacy night here at the MPC from 5:30 to 7:30. We also have our UIL invitational meet November the 15th which is on a Saturday at Gria Middle School. And one last thing on November the 20th, we also have we're bringing back what we used to have a long time ago and we just didn't see that anymore. And we want to make sure that we make every effort to showcase the talent of our students. So on [clears throat] November the 20th, we have our GT night and that will be at the Little Lions from 5:00 to 7:00. So we hope to see everyone there and that's what we have. So thank you. >> Thank you. All right. The time is now 7:24. If there are no
064further items on the agenda and I'll declare this meeting adjourned. Thank you and have a great evening.
