time to do that and we don't have to worry about giving presents but just how grateful we are and who we have in our lives so we're going to start today with our first story and we know what Thanksgiving Time Charlie there's lots of food right do we eat a lot of food at Thanksgiving look at this great table of food behind us here that look yummy makes us hungry and this is the story we're going to start with today it's called Payton picks the perfect pie do you have pie at Thanksgiving time do you like to eat pie Charlie yeah yeah do you like to eat pie in our yeah yeah what about you Cameron maybe depends what kind of pie it is all right here we go let's read Payton picks the perfect

pie and it's written by Jack Bishop he's the author the one who wrote the story so let's read and see what happens in our story today all right Payton is particular but she's not picky grown-ups use that word a lot picky picky picky you know what that means to be picky yeah what does that mean anara like you don't eat food or yeah like you might not like many foods and you don't want to try things that's right and so sometimes her parents think that she is picky it's never a good thing and it's not fair Payton likes dogs and cats scooters bikes pools and beaches she's not picky Payton likes to try new things she learned all about long division in math class it was hard at first but now it's fun it's like

solving puzzles Payton just started playing the saxophone she remembers to practice every day and enjoys it as long as her dog Mila doesn't bark and Payton loves sports Cameron you were saying you love sports do you like sports too good Charlie do you like sports yeah great Payton loves sports every for Payton even likes dodgeball do you play dodgeball in gy in PE class no no got that a lot but you know what that is though yeah all right but Payton is particular about food so this must be when her parents call her picky she doesn't like it when two Foods touch each other on the plate do you like your food to touch when you're eating no she doesn't like green Foods or orange foods or red Foods Payton doesn't like foods that are

gooey or gummy sticky slimy frosted or flaky frosted she doesn't like frosted that' be like a cake right yeah H we got to see what's going on here and she most definitely doesn't like chunky or lumpy Foods I wonder kind of foods are chunky and Mony like like those carrots and like soup oh BBE yeah that's a great example like those I like carrots and soup too makes it makes it crunchy but lately pton has been thinking a lot about food her parents their names are penny and Peter love to cook pet they never say it but Payton wonders if they would like her to be well less particular about foods do you think her family would like her to eat many more Foods than she's eating now I don't like mushy and like squishing

you don't like what honey like squishy oh so you're like like pton here I like how you're connecting with her Payton's parents host thanksgivings that means everyone comes to her house they come each year each Thanksgiving guests come and they bring pies Everyone is always so happy during the holiday surrounded by people they love and food they enjoy not Payton though she loves her family but the food is so green so lumpy and so flaky Charlie you can take your sweat your back I'm going to change this year Payton tells Mila I'm going to try all the foods on the table MAA gives Payton a quizzical look do you think her dog thinks she's going to really eat different Foods no no okay okay not all the food says Payton with a shudder thinking about

the lumpy gravy how about I try one new thing this year Payton hears her mother singing as she rolls out the pie dough I know I'll try pies do you think that's a good thing to start with yeah to try different kinds of pies on Thanksgiving morning Payton helps her mom weaves strips of pio into a pretty top you see the small holes they allow juices from the apples to evaporate said her mom that's why my crust is so flaky does she like things that are flaky no Payton tries to pretend she doesn't hear the word flaky she doesn't like flaky Foods she looks over at her dad dad do you need any help you think she's going to help her dad mhm actually no no do you help your parents when they're cooking especially

at Thanksgiving when there's so many dishes to cook i' love to hear that you're helping out I wonder if my friends at home are helping their parents cook in the kitchen the first guests are here it's Uncle Sherwood and Uncle Mark Payton is excited and a little nervous to see all the different pies we brought brought our famous lemon chess pie said Uncle Mark I like Checkers better than chess Payton said then she asked her uncle why does this pie what does this pie have to do with playing chess do you know the game of chess I know you're very good at it right anara yes Uncle Sherwood is a history book this recipe dates back several hundred years to England the original name was cheese pie have you ever had a cheese pie before

no because the yellow filling sets very firm like a big piece of cheese cheese in the pie Payton says that sounds lumpy and sticky don't worry says Uncle Mark reassuringly there's no cheese in our pie just lemon sugar cornmeal butter and eggs that doesn't sound too bad does it when the next guest arrives Payton is in the kitchen she runs to hug Maria Alvarez a social studies teacher from Payton school pton don't crush my ruffled milk pie she says ruffled what Payton asked her favorite teacher oh I first had this pie when I went to grease says Miss Alvarez it's made with thin sheets of Pho dough that that are shaped like Ruffles a sweetened egg custard is poured over the pho dough and the pie is baked until the pho dough is crisp and

custard and just Wiggles yes camon um my parents went to GRE did they go to grease I wonder you're going to have to ask your parents if they had what she call this kind of what kind of pie I'm drunk let me go back here do you remember what kind of the ruffled milk pie you have to ask Mom and Dad Cameron if they've had that before she has oh your mom has had it wow we'll have to see if she liked it oh no Payton whispered to MAA a pie that Wiggles and aren't Ruffles supposed to be on dresses can there be Ruffles in your pie isn't Ruffles a kind of chip yeah can you see kind of the little Ruffles here almost look at the pretty Ruffles here on and dress can you

imagine having that cool design in a pie that's kind of neat I wonder what that you have to ask your mom what it tasted like it was really sweet or not pton opens the front door to find a crowd on the porch it's Grandma Pearl Grandpa Rich Auntie Mia Uncle Noah and Payton's three cousins Jew Jane and Jamal make room for me and my millionaire pie said Grandma Pearl Payton asks her mother do I get extra allowance if I try a piece don't be silly pton but this pineapple pie does taste like a million bucks have you ever had pineapple pie before wow there's some interesting kinds of pies I've never heard of don't tell your parents she adds but I bought my pie at the bakery for $10 what a deal so everybody else

made the pie what did Grandma do she wouldn't bought the pie there's a knock at the back door Payton and Mila run to greet the next door neighbors bour Payton says Mrs Maron please take my Plum glette glette asked pton we pton says mateline who is the pton who is in Payton's grade A gallette is a rustic French tart you arrange sliced plums plums on the dough fold over the edges and bake and voila you have another pie don't forget the Candi violets violets are flowers do you think they made them into candy that sounds interesting oh and my mother's cinnamon whipped cream Payton looks over to MAA and says flowers made into candies whipped cream with cinnamon finding a plain pie is going to be harder than she thought and remember what's her goal

for Thanksgiving trying to eat a pie yes try and eat a new kind of food and she said it will be a kind of pie cousin Rachel and Russell Russell from New York have brought Boston cream pie here's the one remember you said it looks like a cakea so this is called a Boston cream pie Payton is confused they aren't from Boston and that pie looks like a cake just like you said Ana aun Grace has a tray of Whoopi pies they look like chocolate flying saucers held together by a creamy white filling Payton likes the name and she likes chocolate but she wonders is it cheating to try a pie that looks like a giant cookie do you think it's a it's cheating or can she try the whoopy pie you can try the

who pie I think she might like the whoopie pie do you no you're not sure Cameron let's see the patels from across town arrive with Mississippi mud pie Payton can finally spell the word Mississippi correctly but mud doesn't sound good do you think there's really mud in it no no Payton Hears A honk on the street it's the leaves and their twins baby girls they have brought two pies pumpkin pecan pie and cranberry pear these pies sound twice as fancy and twice as scary Payton says does she mean scary like Boo scary or scary cuz she doesn't want to eat it she doesn't want to eat it wait why that's right remember she says the things are CR um crunchy or lumpy she doesn't want to eat them and these are all sounding a little

different to her Payton goes back into the kitchen maybe her parents can offer some advice about Cheo the right pie to try but Payton's parents are very busy Payton's dad asks her to carry some dishes to the table and then turns to Penny we're missing someone where is your sister oh my sister Polly texts to say that she was running late an ice storm in Denver meant her plane was diverted to dallis Polly was going to be late she said to start with M her so Aunt pol's a little l so here they all are sitting around the Thanksgiving table except one person does it kind of look like our dog sitting around the Thanksgiving table is your table this long at your house when you have Thanksgiving no you have that many people around

at the table Payton takes two slices of turkey white meat of course and no skin and no thanks to the lumpy gravy she takes a fluffy roll and sits it next to it but not touching and then she adds a tiny scoop of mashed potatoes do you think the mashed potatoes are touching anything no no she doesn't like any of her food touching Penny gently clinks a fork against the glass and the guests Qui down Peter Payton and I are so grateful and thankful that you all could share this special day with us we celebrate with food but having you all around our table is the real treat there there's a seat that's missing yes who do you think that's for your sister yes the Auntie that's missing right Aunt H it's finally pie time

look at all the choices she has to choose from pies there are big pies and small pies tall pies and short pies red ones and yellow ones and there's even a green one do you see the green oh the green pie is over here I wonder if that's a key lime pie cuz keyme is kind of green like or a lemon pton has never seen so many pies see the green pie right here you see that Charlie see that one right there it's just it's not a really bright green yeah kind of a light green Payton has never seen so many pies before but one thing they all have in common Payton thinks is that they're kind of ready lumpy and maybe a little bit sticky or flaky I'm not sure I can do this

Payton confides to mea just then the doorbell rings can you predict who it is sisterly you think it's Aunt Polly the sister and Polly strides into the house holding two large Frosty containers I didn't bake pie she said but I brought something even better ice cream do you like ice cream with your pie yummy I didn't know you could put ice cream on pie Payton says of course you can Aunt Polly says it's called pie alamode did you know it was called that when you have ice cream and Pie you call alamode the truth is pie is just okay but add ice cream and Pie is divine pton is is suddenly feeling braver she likes ice cream particularly vanilla ice cream Payton takes a bite of her mom's apple pie the pie is a little

lumpy what do you think the lumps are in there the apples you think the apples are mpy and it's a little flaky but it doesn't seem as scary Payton takes another bite then another I thought I didn't like pie but I guess I do sometimes when we think we don't like something we just have to look at it in a different way and when you put ice cream on it does it taste better M it tastes much better I'd like your apple pie mom says Payton Penny looks surprised happy but surprised Payton thinks for a moment and asks can I try another pie is isn't this amazing I'm so proud of you Payton which pie do you want chess pie please do you think Uncle Sherwood might teach me some chess moves maybe I would

like chess if I gave it another try Peter raises his glass and clinks it with his Fork here's toie especially alamode and what does alamode mean again ice cream and Pie yes ice cream with your pie very good and look at how happy everyone is are they putting ice cream on top of the pie you could put it on top or next to it and here they have the best ever apple pie recipe and we'll put that on so friends at home if you want to bake the pie you'll have the recipe at home wow what did you think of Payton and her pies did you like that story yeah now if you could eat a pie what kind of pie would you want to eat what about a pumpkin pie a pumpkin pie the
