001One of the reasons why I'm [music] involved in education now is because of the people that poured into me growing up um in life. [music] Uh they taught me that education was the key to make differences and make it out of [music] the environment that I was in. I am originally from South Central Los Angeles. So the movie Boys in the Hood, that's my [music] life and my experience through my interaction with U. Margarite Lamont, who was my [music] middle school and my high school principal. that showed us that you have to um show yourself to be a leader for others to follow follow you. Um she was boots on the ground, all hands on board [music] type of leadership. Um she showed us the opportunities that we could have outside of the gang infested

002area that we grew up in. She held us accountable. Her [music] expectations and her bar was always high and she never lowered that. in order for me to really evoke [music] change um that I needed to be more involved and that's when I [music] looked into becoming or running for the board of trustees. My top [music] priorities, one is always the safety of our kids. Um like I said before growing up myself and South [music] Central where it was gangs all around us, we always knew that school was safe. Miss Lamont was going to ensure [music] that we were going to be safe coming and going from school. Um the other thing is absolutely academic success. Um we have to teach our kids that they can succeed and [music] they will succeed. So we have

003to ensure that we provide them with the resources and opportunities to see themselves outside of just this [music] environment and whatever they choose to do, we breathe life into that and we give them the mechanisms to [music] do that. I believe that Dodto is and can be continue to be a premier [music] school district and I just wanted to be able to lend my expertise on [music] the business side of the house to ensure that the goals that the district [music] has set um are met um in an alignment with the academic progress as well as our um financial stability.
