001[Music] hello hell everybody Welcome to calling all kids I'm your Storyteller Jennifer Temple and I'm so happy my friends at home are watching and joining us today but I have three very special guests that are here and let's find out who they are hi my name is Kaa hi Kaa hi my name is Brady hi Brady hi my name is Rose hi Rose I'm so happy the three of you are here today and you all look amazing in Halloween costumes are you getting ready for Halloween yes yes you look great ke who are you dressed up today with i a witch you look like a great witch and Brady who are you I'm a ninja wow what a great ninja costume and Rose who are you today I'm a chef well you look like a
002great chef and I'm so glad that you're here and guess what you came ready because today our books are going to be about Halloween are you ready yeah all right let's start with our first book it's it's called trick or treat smell my feet that kind of a silly top a silly silly title yes it and it's written by Diane de Gro let's find out what they mean by trick or treat smell my feet have you ever heard that saying before yeah it usually goes trick or treat smell my feet give me something good to eat are you going to say that when you go trick-or-treating this year oh my goodness we'll have to see what the people say if they'll still give you candy or not what do you think all right let's read
003our story and find out what happens this is Gilbert and he is our main character and let's find out what this book is all about here we go this is Gilbert and this is his little sister Lola here we go look Gilbert I'm a ballerina Lola twirled around in her tutu it's for Halloween she said said what are you going to be Gilbert held up the mask he was making and said I'm going to be one of the Martian space Pilots Captain zigg but don't tell anyone I don't want anyone to copy my idea Lola suddenly stopped twirling I want to be a martian States pilot too she cried but I just finished making your costume mother said you wanted to be a ballerina you don't have to do everything I do Gilbert said your
004costume is nice if I were you I would be a ballerina you would MOA asked sure said Gilbert but I'm not you I'm going to be Captain zigg you ever heard Captain Zig before no no look he's making quite a cool costume here the next day was Halloween and Gilbert ped his Martian space p pilot costume into a paper bag so that he could change later at school for the Halloween parade do you have a parade at your school yes we do oh great so you can connect to what Gilbert is talking about Lola copied Gilbert and put her paint ballerina costume into a paper bag too here too little to go to school said Gilbert I'll take you trick-or-treating when I get home okay okay said Lola I'll practice she held up her bag
005opened it up in front of Gilbert and said trick or treat smell my feet Gilbert answered I don't want to smell your feet ew said Lola that's what you're supposed to say in Halloween Gilbert said Lola laughed and sing trick or treat smell my feet Now give me something good to eat here's a treat Gilbert said and he dropped a piece of toast that he had just been eating into her bag is that what you want to get when you go trick-or treating a half eaten piece of toast I don't think that sounds too good but they're just practicing where they yeah after breakfast Gilbert grabbed his paper bag and headed for the door goodbye Gilbert father called from the kitchen we'll watch you in the costume parade at school so this it sounds like
006the parents can come and watch the parade can they come and watch you at at your parade I think I don't think it I don't think there's room for all the parents Lola followed her brother and said I want to be in a parade too you can come and watch Gilbert said I'll wave you remember I'll be the one in the Martian space pilot costume so he has his little bag she has hers and off he's going to school Patty here's Patty was waiting for Gilbert at the corner what are you going to be for Halloween she asked Gilbert don't tell anyone Gilbert whispered but I'm going to be Captain zigg I'm going to be a martian space pilot too said Peggy said Patty I'm going to be Admiral Zena hey Gilbert said being a
007martian space p it was my idea I guess we have the same idea Patty said I hope no one else does do you like when everyone has the same kind of costume or do you like everyone to be different different if everyone had the same costume like it wanted be took a treat that's right it wouldn't be as much fun would it look at here we all have different costumes on right it's fun after lunch Mrs bird their teacher stood in front of the class and said boys and girls principal Pines will be leading the parade today we will all line up in the hall and then March single file out the school entrance and around the school block stay with your class and if you see your family or neighbors you may wave to
008them but please do not leave the line then when we come back to our classroom we will have our Halloween party sounds like a fun day doesn't it now you may line up to get your costumes on Mrs bird said but quietly Lewis lined up behind Gilbert so this is Lewis here's Gilbert he waved his monster mask in front of Gilbert's face trick-or treat Gilbert laughed and said smell my feet everyone snickered and laughed except for their teacher Mrs bird leis Gilbert please go to the end of the line she didn't like like that part about smell your feet were they just being silly yeah yeah they were the last ones in the boys bathroom and some of their classmates were already in their costumes Gilbert counted five Martian space Pilots oh no everyone's dressing
009up like he is I'm Captain zigg Frank said in a deep Captain Zig voice I've come to save your planet well Frank said it looks like there's a lot of people that have the same idea as you Gilbert they all wanted to be captain zigs and this one here he looks kind of more like a monster doesn't he yeah that is scary when the other boys finished dressing they went back to the classroom not Gilbert he wasn't excited about his costume anymore he wished he had thought of something different he didn't want to be like all the other kids and be Captain Zig but it was too late right cuz he's at school and has his costume he opened his bag he closed it quickly and blinked his eyes hard he opened it again and
010looked inside he wasn't looking at his captain Zade costume he was looking at Lola's ballerina costume what do you think happened she swapped it yes did he take the wrong bag he he's like oh no gilbertt pulled out a frilly pink tutu this must be some kind of trick he said he shook the bag and a half eaten piece of toast dropped out remember that was the treat he put in and this is definitely not a treat what do you think he's going to do he's going to be mad you think he's mad let's see Gilbert thought for a moment if I if he had Lola's costume she must have his costume and she is probably wearing it right now waiting for the parade Gilbert needed to get the his costume back from Lola before
011the party started but he didn't want Mrs Bird's teacher to catch him outside without a costume on she would think Gilbert forgot to do his homework and bring his costume to school and she'd already gotten mad at him once remember when he was fooling around in line so Gilbert put on the tutu tugging it as far as it would go because remember it was kind of small as for his little sister tugging it on as far as it would go then he picked up the paper bag and tore out two holes for eyes what do you think he's going to do with this bag and he made two holes in it oh like a put it on his head to make it look like he's not actually like 100% a ballerina okay or he's just
012trying to cover his face yes like a mask cuz right usually at Halloween we might wear a kind of mask good idea oh no it's because like if people like know he has a ballerina costume he's gonna get humiliated but like if they don't know who's in the costume they're like it's just a random guy all right let's find out I like your great ideas here we go and he picked up the paper bag and tore out two holes for the eyes it wasn't exactly a mask but at least it was a disguise he didn't want his friends to see him dressed as a ballerina here be bis when Gilbert stepped into the hallway his class was already passing through no one recognized him so he followed them down the hall and out the door
013can you see him here yeah and do you see is there Lola over there yeah yeah there's Lola looking no one recognized him he the street was lined with people watching and waving and taking pictures Gilbert looked up and down the street cutting in and out of line but he couldn't find his sister anywhere hey quit pushing someone yelled it's not me a TOS space pilot said it's that person in the paper bag please stay in line a teacher said Gilbert recognized Mrs bur's voice behind him then he heard another voice he knew look daddy Gilbert's wearing my ballerina costume and she has his Pilot costume on right the swap costume up ahead he saw Lola standing next to father and she was wearing Gilbert's costume hey Gilbert she called and she waved Gilbert looked
014around to make sure Mrs bird wasn't looking and because would she get upset if he left the line yeah and he rushed over and grabbed Bola I need my costume quick said Gilbert give me mine too said Lola stay with your class boys and girls the teacher said Gilbert grabbed Lola's hand and pulled her back toward the line with him Lola thought she was going to be in the parade with the big kids but Gilbert pulled her right through the line and headed for the school hey where are we going said Lola some place where we can switch costumes Gilbert said quick this way but Lola wasn't very quick she kept tripping over the two the twoo big costume cuz she's wearing her brother's costume so it's a little too big have you ever tried
015on something it's too big and want trip it she kept tripping over the costume by the time they reached the classroom they were out of breath Gilbert pushed the door open and there was Lula standing in his underwear hey wait till I finish let's get changed come on maybe we can go into the other part of the classroom and change there said gilber they ran down to the hall to Mrs Bird's room they had just reached the door when Lola tripped on the two big costume and Gilbert tripped on Lola and they tumbled right inside the classroom in the middle of the party uh-oh what do you think's going to happen he's like going to be b k you think they're going to be surprised Gilbert's paper bag mask had flown off everyone was staring
016at him and his chooo Gilbert did the only thing he could think of look at what he did he stood up and twirled around the room raised his arms up and said Tada there was a long silence Gilbert Frank finally said what are you supposed to be he's a ballerina silly Lola said as Mrs bird helped her to her feet and I am captain Zig Patty said well G Gilbert at least you didn't have the same costume as everybody else remember that was his worry throughout the whole story he didn't want everyone had the exact same costume and did he have the same costume being a ballerina no no of course not gilber said I wanted to be something different my sister here wanted to be a space pilot like everyone else but not me
017he said proudly then he twirled across the floor to the refreshment table and what do you think he said soon father appeared at the door to take Lola home Mrs bird gave her some pumpkin cookies to take back with her trick or treat Mrs bird said handing her the bag guess what Lola said smell my feet Lola said to the teacher she passed Gilbert on the way out are you still going to take me trick-or-treating tonight Gilbert I guess so he said and Gilbert what said Gilbert this time when we go trick-or-treating I want to be a ballerina no um and you can be the Martian space pilot no so she took her father's hand and she left and guess who's going to be the ballerina tonight trick-or-treating him Lola and what is going Gilbert
018going to be he's going to be Captain Z Captain Z they'll be in their other costume and here they are in their costumes that they made and do you remember what they said can you read it with me trick or treat smell my feet give me something good to eat what do you think did you like that story yes do you think you're going to be saying the same little rhyme like they were seeing in the book maybe maybe do you think Eon would would like that little saying about smell my feet now some might not like that like Mrs bird the teacher didn't like that oh you did a great job that was kind of a fun story wasn't it I just hope you're careful and make sure you don't mix up your costume
019with a brother or sister or a friend are you ready to read another story this one starts off a little spooky cuz at Halloween is it kind of spooky we wear spooky costumes and it's dark out right this one's called Annie was warned I wonder what she was warned about what do you think oh I think it's like some Haunted Mansion maybe a haunted mansion maned great haunted house is scary but Haunted Mansion is like next level is that even scarier yeah do you think Kaa maybe she's scared of a haunted mansion yeah let's find out Amy was warned okay let's see here we go some kind of fun dark pictures I like so here we can see Annie walking down the stairs at night I hope she has a flashlight or something do you
020see something Rose side oh no do you see something over on the side here look like Mom and Dad or something you think it's their parents maybe in the shadows maybe I hope so on Halloween night Andy sneaked out to the creepy old Montgomery mansion do you think her parents know that she's sneaking out of the house onow try I see a the face like there's a black face in like a big Shadow yeah yes I wonder what that is is it a cat or could it be ghost it's like a mystery character let's find out Annie's parents told her to go told her not to go and go back to bed it's got bad at the Mansion they warned her bats don't scare me Annie said Annie's big sister said you should stay away
021from the Mansion it's full of creepy spiders oh I like spiders Annie said Annie's friend James nodded that place is haunted all right he said with a shutter then he grinned I dare dare you to go do you think she's still going to go yeah they're trying to tell her don't go don't go she doesn't want and she has a flashlight and she's going by herself she being brave yeah let's look here Annie was warned so what was she warned about um like don't go to the mansion right I see some ghost so did you see the ghosts here yeah do you think they're going to jump out and say Boo I actually think that at the end of the book she's going to figure out that all the stuff was like a fake or
022something let's I like how you're already predicting let's see so she's walking down the dark street but Annie wasn't scared nope she's looking she what's that she sees a couple ghosts yeah she's on the dark Street heading to the mansion she stole down the quiet street the moon was shining the wind was howling the tall trees swayed in the breeze and Annie wasn't afraid of anything after all she was born on Halloween night so what does that mean she's not scared of anything she's like scare prooof yes her birthday is the same day as Halloween so that mean today is her birthday wow I mean like so she has lots to celebrate right Rose her birthday and Halloween so maybe that's why she's not scared do you think BR it's actually bad to have a
023birthday in Christmas cuz people just say all the presents you get count for one thing oh and not just your birthday yeah well let's see so maybe this is why she isn't scared cuz she was born in Halloween let's see out of the corner of her eye she saw something black black fly guy was it a bat you think it was a bat ah here's her but there was only a cat licking its paws so it's like the Shadow from from a cat and not the bat why is it a cat Annie turned the corner and crept across the churchyard oo I think I'd be kind of scared going through a graveyard would you yeah something tickled the back of her neck was it a spider do you think it's a spider Andy spun around
024quick it was just the leaves falling from the [Music] trees she's getting closer to the mansion she's overreacting do you think she's overreacting yeah let's see the Mansion loomed large in the night Annie thought she heard Whispers was it haunted does it look haunted Rose yeah looks a little spooky yeah I'm pretty sure that like someone actually lives there and like it's haunted on the outside so like people don't try and Rob it do you think it's like a real house in the inside yes do you think so I thought there's going to be ghost you think there might be ghosts in there or Rose do you think it's just someone who's going to give her some candy when she says tricker treat nope let's see Annie took a Jeep breath and began to climb
025the stairs one by one she saw signs that said scram shoot stay away danger don't go any further keep out is she going to stop now after she see scary signs would you stop if you saw these scary signs i' stop I would too would you when I saw like a bloody sign like you know that bad I would run what about you ke would you stop let's see if she stops I'm warning you whatever you do do not open the door or else should we not open the door just end the book open or should we open the door are you ready hold on to your seats are ready she open the door surprise happy birthday Annie what did they do they do her a birthday party on the Haunted Mansion yes they gave
026her a surprise birthday party in the mansion and does it looks spooky inside the Mansion now no no it's all her friends dressed up for Halloween so that's where they go and they have a birthday cake and there's the candy corn candy that freedy you said you liked all of the the the scary stuff was just to get her like to come there do you think that was cuz you knew that she was curious let's see what the nice page says Ah it was the best scare she'd ever had and do you think she had the best birthday in Halloween ever yes what a fun story and what a surprise at the end she was worned but she was still curious and wanted to find out what was going on love it well we it's
027almost time for us to say goodbye but I want to read to you a couple of trick-or treat poems do you know what a poem is yeah yeah what's a poem ke it's maybe like have R there might be rhyming words in it is it as long as it's a story it's usually like not that long yeah it's shorter and rhyming so let's start the first poem I want to read is called Hollow started making some poems did you write some poems love it and this is called hollow's Eve this means it takes place the day before Halloween the day before Halloween are you ready the wind is howling the leaves are blowing a sliver of moon is barely showing the whistling wind plays an eerie song while unknown known fiends cast Shadows long and
