001Hello Melissa ISD community. I'm Amy Fagan, one of your Board of Trustees, and I want to welcome you to our board meeting highlights from May 11th, 2026. We began the meeting with pledges led by students from Sue Miller Elementary. Next, we recognized individuals with Cardinal Commendations. Sue Miller Elementary students were recognized for leadership, character, and encouragement that they bring to their campus each day. Staff members were honored for the care, dedication, and energy they pour into creating a supportive and welcoming environment. Minsa Asim from Harry McKillop Elementary was recognized for her outstanding artistic achievement after her artwork was selected as a winner by the Academic Language Therapy Association. Melissa High School students were recognized for their exceptional work in the IB program and for their thoughtful presentations showcasing their Theory of Knowledge class projects. The
002critical thinking, meaningful inquiry, and ability to make real-world connections that students develop through the IB program is truly impressive. Finally, members of the inaugural Cardinal Leadership Academy team were honored for their investment in completing 2 years of intentional leadership growth and professional development through the program. Next, we had several important reports and updates. George James will continue serving in Place 1, and Stacy Feeker was elected to be Place 2, succeeding Dr. Bill Gray. We extend our sincerest appreciation to Dr. Gray for his years of service, leadership, and dedication to Melissa ISD and our community. Newly appointed Chief Financial Officer Chris Robinson shared a budget update and provided an overview of the district's financial planning efforts. Chief Fontana and Omar Landrum officially swore in Al Roman as a Melissa ISD sergeant. Chief Fontana also shared details
003about the interview and selection process, along with an update on the district's 3-year safety and security audit.
