001[Music] hello welcome to calling all kids I'm your Storyteller Mrs Temple I'm so happy to have my friends at home here watching and I hope you'll enjoy our stories with us today I have some very special guests with me here and I'd like to introduce them to you now we have viven and we have Alexia and we have Donovan and I'm so happy the three of you are here today joining me this is such an exciting time of year because it's back to school time isn't it did you all just go back to school and meet your new teachers and you have classmates from last year in your class and I bet you're making some new friends did you have some friends from maybe kindergarten that are now in your class oh I'm so excited
002for you and I'm happy that you're here today our stories today are about school and before we begin I would love to know what is your favorite thing about school or one of your favorite things Vivian what's one of your favorite things about school you like piz from Pizza day having pizza on Pizza day oh that sounds yummy what do you like to do Alexia something about school that you anything you want art you like art what do you like to do in art make stuff out a Clay Ooh very exciting and Donovan do you have something special you like about School PE you like PE have you ever played kickball in PE Donovan no no well guess what today we're going to read a story about recess and the kids at recess love to
003play kickball so after the story you might think oh maybe I could play kickball tomorrow when I go to school what do you think all right let's see what this story is All About it's called Ella mcken the Kickball Queen what do you think that means the Kickball Queen do you think she's royalty she live in a castle do you think I don't know let's read and find out what this is about and it's written by Beth Mills she also did the illustration she wrote the story and the pictures so let's find out what this story is about and it looks like she's kicking the big ball there really far I wonder if that means that she's really good at kickball what do you think would that be a good guess maybe let's find out
004all right when Ella mcken steps up to the plate everyone knows what to do move move back move back Ellis Smiles at Kyle Santana the pitcher Ellis Smiles at her classmates on the field her kicks have never been caught so do you think this means that she's really good at kickball that's why she's the queen oh no mutters Kyle as he winds up for his pitch here it comes kapow look at that do you think they're going to catch it the ball arcs through the air higher and higher until it is lost in the Sun the outfielders grown it's a home run for sure but then what do you think I've got it I've got it I've got it Ria Patel the new girl is racing towards the falling ball oh no thinks Ella but
005nobody can catch [Applause] Oops fep she caught the ball she's the first one that has ever caught Ella's ball H I wonder how Ella is going to feel about that wow wow what a great catch yells Kyle everyone starts cheering even Ellis's own team ell's stomach drops to her feet her hands clunch into fists she feels a twisty turny terrible burning in her chest her cheeks get hot her eyes filled with tears and is she happy about her ball being caught and are you ready at these Pages no that's not fair that's my best kick nobody can catch it I don't want to play I don't want to be out I want to do over I'm not going to play anymore I'm supposed to be the best one I am the the best one I
006don't want to lose is she being a good sport not at all what do you think her classmates are thinking are they going to want to keep playing with her if she's yelling and screaming like this let's find out Ella suddenly stops it is very quiet there is no more cheering there is no more talking there is no more noise anywhere and everyone is looking at her they're all staring at Ella Ella feels like crawling under home plate and staying there forever why do you think she wants to hide under home plate you think she's a little bit embarrassed yes that she acted that way and look at their faces do they look a little shocked yes sorry said Ella nobody hears her over the end of re the recess Bell so recess is over
007and now she's feeling bad she acted that way do you think they're going to want to play with her tomorrow let's find out the next morning Ella is pretty sure everyone is avoiding her and she tries to tries not to look look at Ria because remember she's the one who caught the ball but on the way to recess Ella's stomach starts to drop she will have to see Ria on the field the captains start to pick teams Ella knows she has to say something because do you think they're going to pick her now if she doesn't apologize or say sorry or are they going to want or not to be on the team you think she takes a deep breath and she jogs over to Ria Ria's not too sure about her is she is
008she GNA scream and yell again look I'm sorry for yesterday that catch was really good but I'm the king the qu the queen of kickball nobody's ever caught my kicks before well okay says Ria but you should know something I was the Kickball Queen at my old school definitely the best and I can catch anything so You' better watch out uhoh can we have two queens of kickball yeah I think so too Lexi I agree uh let's see so you'd better watch out really replies Ella will we'll see about that Ria Smiles straightens up and says challenge accepted she's ready to play one against the other at the top of the second inning Ria catches the bouncer after only two bounces and tags Ella out as she rounds second base uh-oh do you think Ella
009is going to start screaming like yesterday let's see she doesn't look too happy here does [Applause] she good catch says Ella is being is this being a good friend and a good sport yes I love it as Ella runs back to the bench she thinks H I wonder if Ria could catch the Zinger the Zinger is one of her really strong kicks do you think she'd be able to catch the Zinger too yeah and that's the end so I love how they end it up working it out and playing nicely together at the end what do you think do you think you're going to want to play kickball when you get to school sometime I bet you'll play that in PE in your school sometime is that kind of a fun story what is something

011will be able to make a connection to for things that you see at your school at the Warren school so school is more than a building my school is made of bricks it has many windows and two big front doors is waren school made of bricks no no I don't what do you think Don you think it's made of bricks concrete wood you'll have to investigate when you go to school tomorrow but my school is more than just a building do you think Warren school is more than just a building let's see what they mean by that it is a place where I feel welcome do you feel welcome at your school MH yes I hope so in the morning my principal greets me with hello my teachers ask how I am the librarian gives

013can play on the playground I smile at my friends and make them laugh do you like to make your friends laugh yeah and I hope they make you laugh too my school is more than a building it is a place where I can learn my teachers know how I learn best they help me when I'm frustrated like if something's really hard do you know the teachers are there to help you right and it's okay if things are hard at first but the more you practice as it get easier absolutely there have happy for me when I learn something new have you learned anything new since you've been back in school what have you learned Vivian um I learned each other's names and last names and my teachers names that's a lot right when you have
014a lot of kids in your class that's a lot to learn great have anyone else learned anything new since school started any math Donovan because I know you're like a math expert you haven't learned any new math yet probably doing some review right of what you learned last year I did ST Math you've been doing ST Math this year great so you're going be moving doing the second grade re um ST Math now wonderful are you seeing the sentence that's over and over again in the story my school is more than a building it is a place where people listen my teacher comforts me when I'm having a bad day the nurse is there for me when I complain of a tummy ache the janitor the custodian and laughs at my jokes the librarian listens

017than a building it's a place where I can be me can you be like a superhero there at school if you want sure I can be independent and do things all by myself my friends and teachers know and they understand me I feel proud of who I am I am unique everyone is unique aren't they at school everyone has something special to bring school's a very special place my school is more than a building it is where I am part of a community we learn about each other and what makes each of us special I bet you've been doing a lot of that right learning about how everyone is special and what things people can do and can't do and maybe you can teach them how to do something we learn to be kind to
018one another my school is a big family and we are part of a global community so not only are we part of Warren school we're also part of Ashland right Our Town great my school is so much more than just a building did you know that your school is so much more I love my school I hope you do love your school too I know Mr Regan and your teachers would love to hear that I kind of a fun story school is more than a building very fun I think we have time for One More Story and this one's kind of a fun story that goes through a school following a line it's called Follow The Line to school and don't you have lines on the floor at school that you follow to get around

020and go to your classroom so we're going to follow the line right into the classroom do you see some things here in the classroom that you might have in your classroom put's something you see Vivi in um a white board a whiteboard good Donan you see something crayons yeah crayons what about you Lexi pencils good and pencils now do you see right here this is a class pet do any of you have a class pet at your school no no and do you know what kind of pet it might be do you see part of the the pet what do you think what you think it might be a bunny yeah me too okay why what gives it away they're only showing these two little pointy things sticking up the long ears the long ears
021do you think Donovan do you agree with them let's see so follow the line to the Science Center Do you have a Science Center in your classroom no not yet maybe they just pull it out when it's science time you're going to learn about animals and the different places they live in in the world look at all the different animals that you might learn about do you see an animal on here that you might want to learn about what do you see a butterfly good yeah a pig yeah and actually I think you might be raising butterflies this year and there's penguin okay let's see follow the line to the library one of my favorite places you're going to pick out a book and hear a story isn't it exciting to read stories CU they
022can take you on So Many Adventures you can if you want to go to Hawaii you can go read a book about Hawaii and off you can go look at all the books do you have a comfy chair like this in your library no I have a library in my classroom you have a library in your classroom I bet you all have libraries in your classroom right no no library in your I do you do this has a very large Library awesome so you can go to the library at school or you can go to the Ashen public library or and I bet you have a pile of books at home I think I have a library okay that's going to be your job when you go back to school I want you to check
023and see if you have a library in your classroom cuz I have a space of books on shelves okay so I bet that's the class Li awesome so that's your job you can go and figure that out tomorrow let's follow the line to the art room love the art room have you had art yet this year I like art yes let's see art yesterday I had art yesterday did you and is it the same art teacher as last year yeah Mrs coella good and when you get to the art room you can paint draw and create look at all those self-portraits pretty fanc Follow The Line back to the classroom are we heading back to the classroom and look at because we have to feed Fred the class pet they named their bunny Fred and
024they're going to play a game so good predicting you were absolutely right seeing the big long ears and look at the games you're going to play have you played any games yet and during indoor recess or we did haveo but I played Four Corners today oh so that's a type of fun game to do in the classroom any game Donovan have you played yet no and bet indoor recesses when you'll play a lot of the games I play Four Corners outside we made it at a chop very fun so that was was that during recess time or just your teacher just took you outside for fun recess time wonderful let's follow the line are you ready to the cafeteria oo so you can eat your lunch but don't forget to wash your hands first chicken
025look at all that yummy food I don't see any Framingham Bakery Pizza in there do you yeah yeah do they serve ice cream at your school no wouldn't that be cool let's follow the line to the playground where we have recess look at this playground so you can run and play at recess see the line you keep following the line around look at all the different things do you play popscotch I do line up and then you have the climbing all the structures there to climb on I don't know do there a tire swing at your school no wish they had one that would be fun wouldn't it follow the line to the math area Donovan is this where you are I know you love your math to learn more counting and shapes look at
026all the different math things I also like math I know you do like math I like ST Math and you like ST Math all these great mathematicians we have here let's follow the line to the music room I had music today you had music today in the music room and you get to sing a song and play instruments have you played any of the instruments here I seen one of those drums and and yeah I seen one of those drums too I seen a piano yeah so we have the piano there seen as many instruments she can hang in her room I bet you'll be pulling out the instruments once the school year gets going Follow The Line back to your classroom because it's time for show and tell and if you had Show and
