Yeah. I'm going to call the order of the Board of Trustees meeting at 6 o'clock. [snorts] Uh we do have a quorum. Uh Josh Monaghan will be a little bit late. Uh Dirk, do you mind giving us a moment of silence? Yeah. Uh Lord, [clears throat] we thank you for this day. God, we're so blessed that you're Lord and Savior, that you're you're for us, you're our heavenly Father. Thank you for the the community that you blessed us with, our family, our friends. God, we ask tonight that you would just be with us in this room, that your your spirit would be here, that your your wisdom would guide us and lead us through all the decisions that have to be made tonight. I pray that you would uh bless our our teachers, students, faculty,
staff, uh and all the families here in this community, Lord, I pray pray that you would meet everyone where they're at tonight in their difficulties, uh financially, physically, whatever the needs are this evening, Lord, I pray that your spirit would comfort and that you would intervene in each situation, Lord. Uh guide us through this night, we pray. In your name, amen. Amen. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Citizen participation matter. I guess you got the floor. Thank you. I just have a letter that I would like to share with you. Dear DeLeon ISD staff, school board, students, and community, I'm writing this letter to inform you of my resignation from
DeLeon High School counseling position as of my last contract date of June 18th, 2026. As Dr. Merrell stated in an email, the board cannot officially accept resignations if that is her duty. While I respectfully understand that, I would like to take this opportunity to speak publicly regarding my decision. If you would, please stay with me for a minute or two. I have been in education for 23 years and at DeLeon ISD for 18 of those 23. Of 18 years, I spent 14 of them on the elementary campus at various positions, including fourth grade writing for 9 years, second grade for 2 years, and elementary counselor for 3. The remaining 4 years in my tenure at DeLeon was split, 2 years as a head volleyball coach at the high school in '08 and '09, and my
current position, 2 years at the high school counselor position. Upon announcing my resignation, I would I was encouraged to write this letter in a way that reflects leaving on good terms. I want to be very clear. I do leave with appreciation for the opportunities I have had here, with confidence in the dedication I have given throughout my time in this district. It has been my goal to always strive to put students first, serve with integrity, and give my best in every role that I have held here. After much reflection, I have realized that stepping away from this position is the best decision for me, both personally and professionally. In order to serve students effectively, I believe it is important to be my very best mentally, emotionally, physically, and at this time, I feel it is
necessary to pursue a path that allows me to maintain that balance. Over the years, like any long career, there have been challenges, different perspectives, and professional obstacles that have contributed to my decision. However, those experiences have helped shape me as an educator and the person I am today. Additionally, the expectations placed on high school counselors, particularly balancing student mental health needs with numerous numerous other responsibilities, have been extremely challenging. Supporting students both academically and emotionally has always been my highest priority, and it is important to me that I pursue this opportunity where I can focus more directly on that specific work. It is with much gratitude that I mention a few people that have been incredibly impactful on me while working at DeLeon. Ms. Lori Wallmark pushed me to be better every single day, believed
in me, and is a true gift for pushing people to be the very best version of themselves, even if it means stepping out of their comfort zone. If it wasn't for her, I may not have ever gone back to school to complete my master's for lacking belief in myself. She acknowledged qualities in me, boosting my confidence and supporting me through the process. I was really hoping you would be sitting here. I wish you were. >> [laughter] >> Ms. Wallmark, thank you for always believing in me. My elementary family, you will forever have a special place in my heart. I would also like to thank the parents of the community. Without you and your children, education jobs would not be possible. Thank you for sharing and trusting me with your children. Students, thank you for always
stepping up and meeting my incredibly high expectations that I have set before you, whether it be in fourth grade writing to one of my wild writing responses that I asked you to do, second grade math workstations, or even working on a positive emotional growth mindset. School board, thank you for your tireless hours of your not-so-high-paying job. Your work does not go unnoticed. Ms. Klein, thank you for being so passionate about your job and making sure that Ts are crossed and Is are dotted. Without you, I definitely would not have survived the past 2 years. To the high school staff, Mr. Miller, Ms. Locke, Mr. Burleson, even, thank [snorts] you for taking me in despite of two surgeries my first year and helping me keep my nose above water the second, even though I felt like
I had doggy-paddled through the entire year. >> [snorts] >> As for my son, Bryce, Charlie and I are very appreciative and thankful for the opportunity to have raised him in a small school. We have had many opportunities to move elsewhere due to my husband's work, but have always chosen to stay in DeLeon and raise him here. So, to all of his educators that have helped him along the way, and if you've had him, we all know he needed it. Thank you. Overall, I am very thankful and appreciative for my time here in DeLeon. It has been a constant learning experience full of memories, growth, and relationships that I will never forget. As for my next chapter, my heart is in working with teens and mental health. Therefore, I will complete my licensed psychology counseling hours
and tests so that I can practice within my passion, hoping to make a difference in the lives of teens with specific health needs. Thank you all for your time. Thank you. Ms. Boswell, I want to tell you that we have a volleyball coach. >> [laughter] >> I will counsel them, thank you. Only at an orphanage would I ever >> [laughter] >> where there's no parents. Just thought I'd throw that in. Thank y'all. Thank you. Uh I'm assuming everybody's read the previous minutes. I did not find any mistakes. Good. You did a good job. I don't Okay. I tend to skim over the minutes. This one This one I passed them that you found the mistakes in. Uh Moving to comparison of revenue to budget. Well, we're right We're on track. The school year's half over.
We've hit 52% and we've received 54% of our income, so we're right in line with where we should be at this time. Moving on to tax collections. And we've collected $565,222.52 since our last quarterly. Which is about what we normally do about this time. Uh Anybody have any questions on the consent agenda? >> [snorts] >> I'll make a motion to approve the consent agenda. I'll second. Uh Josh made a motion, Carol seconded to approve the consent agenda. All for? Passes 6 to 0. I guess we're two campus reports. Well, I will probably not tantalize you with a lot of information because we're just hard at it up on that campus. We are down to crunch time. Um I was by the school today in the classrooms and well, we're we're we're we're in short rows.
We're we're we're trying to get ready for STAR testing and there's just you know, 3 weeks flash before it's February. So, um it's that nervous time of the year when you just don't feel like there's enough time to get everything done. So, I admire and appreciate the teachers and their dedication to go in there day and attack things with all the rigor that they can and try to get students where they need to be. So, I'm very proud of them. We We continue to work on our attendance. It's not ever perfect, but um we've had worse years, so we're we're we after we got through October, November, it's picked up a little bit, so um we've had had visitors today, a new family coming to they'll be enrolling their student here in the beginning of
the school year, so they toured the campus. They come to your campus? No. No. Um well, there was it what the boy was a fifth grader, so I did introduce him to future classmates. But anyway, they seemed like a nice family, so that's always good. That's always good to see new people coming into the community, so um other than that we just don't really have a lot to What day does testing start? It starts the very beginning of like the week we get back from Easter, it's that Wednesday. We start April 8th. So it's here very quickly. I'm going to go ahead and order that because I'm sorry, Mr. Marble. That's okay. Um we've had we discussed we have very limited but our enrollment is holding steady at 139. Um our sixth and seventh graders
are strong. We have 48th graders. We are getting three uh triplets that will be starting in the fall. Triplets? Mr. Marble knew them from way back, but um they're coming in. So, they're coming in from Gorman. So, they will be staying at the junior high on your campus. No, through campus. Mine and your campus are the only ones. Um our attendance was also low prior to spring break. We had the stomach bug. We had a lot of kids in and out. Today was pretty exciting. We had five absent, so that was that was good news for us. Our teachers I did the same as Laura. They don't like it when I come into the classrooms while they're really getting into the meat of their meetings, so I try to give them a little early before
they before they're doing their warm-up stuff to see what they're doing, but they are hard at it. I feel sorry for the kids' brains because you can see them working like I can't take one more piece of information, but the teachers just still kind of give them one more piece of information. Um track is in progress, and we have some good things happening there. And we have Hamilton on Thursday, Lipan is on the 23rd, and district is in high ground April 7th. Um academics is going strong. We're just doing the best we can, and um good yeah. >> [snorts] >> Our attendance is 177, and we are sitting at 94.3 right now. Um we're halfway through our fifth six weeks. But uh our seniors um that have not completed the TSI are now working on
their college bridges for math and English. Um and then we are also be completing our CPR I mean they all have to do a CPR class for graduation requirement, and that'll be Monday and Tuesday next week. Mr. Cole with Cole is going to come and teach that class for us. Um and so that'll be done next week. Our juniors are working hard towards their US history end of course assessment, which is April 16th for us. Uh sophomores are working towards their English two EOC test, which is April 14th. And our freshmen are working towards their algebra one biology and English one. Algebra is April 21st, biology is April 16th, and English is April 14th. So, 14th and 16th is first, >> [clears throat] >> and 21st. Next Monday our one act play will be competing
in the district competition in Glen Rose. They got first place, so they will perform at 1:30. Uh my junior high band competed in individual and uh ensembles last month. Uh the band received a rating of two, which is excellent on stage, and a rating of two in sight reading, which is excellent in sight reading. So, I'm very proud of those kiddos. Um and we had two on the individual side that made first divisions on a first division memorized solo, and they get to qualify to go to all state, and that'll happen in May. So, the May board meeting I'll bring them in and have them do a little extras like we've done in the past for them. Um one of them is Elena Bennett. She played for us last year as a sophomore. She's a
junior this year, so she's back to back. And the other one is Isabella Gonzales. It's first year for her to make it, so I'm very proud of her for that. Um and then I'd love to say the students are super excited about everything going on in the building, and they're just very happy to be back, but they're super excited about Saturday because it's prom. So, this Saturday is our prom, and it'll be in at the Lumber Yard in Eastland. Uh TEA or Ronnie Kincaid came to the high school on behalf of Region 14 and TEA to do our door pull audit uh last uh week before spring break. We we found no deficiencies whatsoever. Everything was perfect order, so we did great there. And I'm not sure if Wednesday, April 15th, I think that's the
Wednesday before the next board meeting. So, if you put on your calendars Wednesday the 15th uh is our next Texas schools uh safety and security team meeting at the high school library at 4:00. All of you are invited to that, and I'll send out an email for us. Um Athletics is still in full swing, obviously. I know what Mr. Marble said. We got track on Thursday, Hamilton both junior high and high school, so we're doing a one-day all-day track meet high school in the AM and junior high in the PM. Um and then baseball's softball both start district this week. Um baseball has um they'll play the same team twice in the week. They got Cisco this week. Um at Cisco tomorrow and home versus Cisco on Friday at 7:00. Um softball's got Breckenridge tomorrow
at home, and then Ranger at home on as well on Friday, but the Breckenridge game won't count towards the district standings. The Ranger game won't since they're a 1A in our 2A district. Um but the Breckenridge game will start replacing tomorrow for softball, and then golf was gone today at Baird and Wednesday at Baird. Um and our boys golf team also finished first last week in a tournament at Glen Rose out of I think 12, 14 teams, something like that. And we also had the first individual medalist, uh Jayden Laney won the tournament with a 74. Um so, I'm super proud of them. Track's been doing a great job. Um you know, we're getting better and better. Our week times are getting better. Um we're getting closer and closer to you know, our varsity boys
actually finished second at Santo the other day out of 12 teams, I think it was. Um and they were you know, six points off first place going into the mile relay. And so um really improving there. Um our JV girls have really found a lot of success in track as well. Like I said, we've tripled the numbers of that program from last year, and kind of really kind of put them all together on a team to try and create some success for them. And they've had a lot of success with that um with track so far, and running some good times in relays and individuals, and stuff like that. Just some girls trying some new stuff they've never done before in the band, and um it's been really good to see some their confidence really
take off after like this track season. Um and like I said, baseball and softball in full swing in the district. And as far as uh staff updates, um we'll we'll have filled a couple positions that will be coming across I guess soon as far as hiring and stuff. Our defensive coordinator position, and then um we're able to fill out our student teacher who student taught the entire this whole year with us, and has been very familiar already with our program for kids getting back in as well. Should be two huge additions to to our uh coaching staff. Um our defensive coordinator, really excited about bringing him in, and um played four years of college football at the University of Tulsa, and then finished up at Eastern Kentucky, and spent a little bit of time in
um CFL um before coming back to coaching where he's coached at college and high school level. And he's already been on board and jumping on testing, got certified in his testing within a week, and working on CBL already, and he's getting after it. So, super excited to have both of them join our staff, and then like Dr. Marble said, we're still working in the process of interviewing with head softball right now. I have head volleyball opening up starting today, and then also a couple of assistant spots that we've also um have got started interviews with. And so, working through that, and trying to get the best candidates we can possible that are going to help make our student athletes successful both on and off the field before then. Um the good thing is I feel
like we got a head of it. We got an early start on it. And I feel good about where we're at in in the hiring process, and not having to wait late in the game to get ahead of it, and you know, decently all together the best we can. >> [snorts] >> I think I'd like to welcome the newest Bearcat >> [laughter] >> Oh, no, it was just it was already set up that way. They just wanted to do an all-day track Okay, Mr. Marble is telling you a very I just wanted to make sure that we welcome the newest Bearcat >> Congratulations. Yes. Good. Good to be back I like it so far. Thank you. It's my great-grandfather's name. Oh, really? Now, I didn't I didn't get to use Cole for for my name
that I always wanted, so my brother's name is Colton, and he got to go by Cole, so at least he got the middle name part. That was good. Okay, so you got anything Uh I just like to add that uh Vicki Highhurst with the service center uh she visited with Dr. Marble, myself, and Comanche superintendent, and there's a possibility that Comanche's going to join the RP app, and which is fantastic because uh they're going to be offering automotive, and we're excited about that. And she also is looking at hiring someone to come in for H vac. So, if they do join, and their board approves it, I think Mickey, they were meeting tonight. And and you know, so keep fingers crossed. I think that'd be fantastic opportunity for our students. For the ones I did
a little survey with the kiddos, and on the automotive, I had four show interest in it. And I think four is a good number if you're going to take students over there. And so, I'm really excited about that. And uh the HVAC, also. So, that's that's a good opportunity for us. I guess moving on to safety planning. I think that's something that that we can need to go into the executive session to talk about because safety is one of those things that requires us to not uh Okay. to talk about. But we could just do it later, or we Yeah. Whatever you want. Yeah, whatever you want. Okay. Just move it to the end of the Yeah, move it to the end of Yeah, that's fine. Okay. Uh facilities projects update? Well, every everything's going
well. Yes. Oh. Property Property purchase? Okay, there's a piece of property that's come up for sale that's behind our parking lot. Okay. We looked at that back then, and I don't remember how much. It was just before I am so sorry. I can't remember. >> [snorts] >> Big Creek. Big Creek. Big Creek. That's It's got highway frontage. It has highway frontage, and goes all the way to our parking lot. So, it's really a a probably a a We we talked about that one next door to that. But this one is more square, and touches us different land, and and does and then there's nothing on it. There's no buildings on it. So. Who owns that little the water dispensary that sits on it? It used to be Shirley open in the small Did they sell
it to them? I assume they bought it when when they bought it. I don't know if Shirley bought it. I think they did. >> [clears throat] >> I cannot I mean, I would if I told you right now a number, I I would not be able to back it up. Did I not tell you I didn't tell you about it? >> [laughter] >> How long we have? I've been on spring break, guys. I've been on spring break. Is the road to the parking lot? It There's a ditch between us and the parking lot, between it and the parking lot. You couldn't drive from No. I'm going to go with what I know. Okay. Y'all can have it. I don't remember that conversation, but I I don't remember that. You must have just left me. But
no, I think it's mine. I think I have it. But the good thing about it is They kind of corrected me before they left you. Okay. So, they did it for CTE and we did it But I can't imagine what They came off of the box. I think that's probably all you can use it for. Yeah. Just over for parking, over for parking. What things football needs. But But it worked for football, and it also worked for any gym activities. Be a little high, but Yeah, but it's better than having a parking lot and yards and different businesses Luckily, I did write things down. 1.79 is 2.28 acres. Okay. 2.2 acres. And they're asking 1 75. 1.75. I had to tell you about that lot. So, it's just something that you can think about for
a while. Uh Mr. Cogburn just called and said, you know, just for your information. Nothing new. We thought about the other one. We can also talk about that. We need executive session. You can talk about it later. Yeah. You you can also talk about that later. Okay. [snorts] Uh facilities projects update? Everything's going very very well. They were very busy during the holidays. We did We did some sewer repair over at the elementary school. I got I saw the the car the trucks over there, and I thought, what on earth? But they were repairing some sewer lines over there. Um Uh that's again a new sound system in the cafeteria at the high school. And um they were very pleased with Yes, I went up with them when they finished it up, and we did
mic test, and we now have four They call it a J speaker up front. It comes out and has four speakers in the front, but they also have a halfway that's on like a 10th of a second delay, so it comes out at the same time that you're hearing it come this way. Um and it's very clear, and it's not meant for dances. It's meant for banquets. And and our mic speakers and stuff like that. We have two microphones with them. They're both handheld, and they're mobile. You can go anywhere in the building, and not get feedback. We were climbing all over everything trying to make them feedback. And then just like the gym, we have them set where you can turn up the volume all the way, but the mixer is not turned all
the way. And the mixer only has two keys, and we're not giving those out. We're keeping them. And it means a lot to those of us who work in this building. They cleaned out our courtyard that you may not even know exists, but but there's a courtyard in inside this building, and they cleaned it out. And and it looks very very nice, and more conducive to looking out the windows. Yes, they They cleaned that out. And just general maintenance, but they did a good job over the holidays. They cleaned over the elementary, too, in the little mini sanctuary. Yes, they made progress over there. I know that they turned Emery's electricity off, but you know, I think they got it back on. And the cafeteria is bright cuz we got all LED Oh, yes, it's
bright. And they put all LED lights You didn't realize how dim it was until the new ones were put in. Today is bright. It's very nice. Well, and they'll cost less, too. We always look for ways where it can cost less. Anyway, lots of good things. We have a very strong maintenance crew now, and and have had all along, but they do a good job, and they take a special interest in it. And I don't know if if you all realize it, but a couple of our maintenance people that if I didn't even know are actually helping with our CTE courses, and loving it, and the kids are really learning a lot, and I think it's a a good thing to get that that everyday feel, and the the real life experience that they bring
to it. And so, that's worked very very well. And I've observed them, and they're pushing those kids. They're not letting them just lay out there. And they're not letting them cut corners. I was like, No. They're teaching them right. That's been a really That's been a really good thing. And they do it during the work night, so you know, it's it works really well. Uh consideration of investment report. Mr. Thompson sent us a minute investment report. You know, we we mainly invest with the um safe investments. Um And uh and Lone Star is is who we are invested in mainly. The uh thing that caught my eye the most was the interest that we're drawing. Cuz you know, we can remember a time when when that was we didn't talk about it cuz it really
wasn't very much to talk about. But last year, we collected $234,344 in interest. And already this year, for the year half gone, we've collected $182,278. So, that is just another income stream that allows us to keep taxes down, and and uh So, our our money actually is working to earn money for our taxpayers. that that we have. And so, uh they probably would maybe like to have it rather than pay taxes. It's saving them in the long run. This is a a good income stream for us. Helps us balance our budget. So, very pleased with that. Mr. Thompson will be here Wednesday to spend the day with us to talk to to Ally and me first to about where we are with everything and with Samantha because she had some reports that are due. Then
with each of our principals and our department chairs and and heads not not department chairs but with athletic director, maintenance, technology so that we can see where we are now and make that wish list for next year and see if we can make it all mesh when we come to you all for a budget planning in the summer. Uh what training opportunities? I don't have any right now. I have one that I'm trying to register you all for. It's just an hour and it'll be online. But I've got a note to uh get us registered for us to to get us registered [snorts] for that. Uh I think it's it's either free or $100 one of the other. It's relatively cheap. And it's something you can do at your own time. So I'll get that
out to you in the next few days. Okay. Moving to action items, approval or consideration of donations and gifts. Mr. We do not have any this time. We have we know we have several scholarships coming. Scholarship or academic scholarships awards coming in next month but this month we don't have any. Okay. Moving on to 7.2, consideration of certification of unopposed candidates. Okay. This is what we have to do in order to cancel our election. So as you know our on May the 2nd we have a board meeting and election scheduled but we found that we only had two people sign up and we have two vacancies. Kathi Griffin and Caleb Nolan will be automatically elected but you all have to vote to cancel the election. Do we have to pay for it? No, we don't
have to pay for it. If we get this done now we don't have to pay for it. It will save us probably about $6,000. Which is substantial. Yes, that's fine. So and and both of these men will You don't have to spend it. Yeah and and both of these men will do do a good job for us I believe. I'll make a motion to approve 7.2. Second. Uh motion by Carrie and seconded by Derek to approve the cancellation of unopposed candidates for the election. All four. Passed 6 to 0. Uh Consideration or consideration of letter to TA on seat belts for school buses. Okay. You remember we talked about about this several months ago and and but at that time we did not have the estimate on how much it would cost to put the
seat belts in. I included that in your packet. Um I think the feeling as I recall at that time was that it's a lot of you know we didn't wouldn't want to spend a lot of money putting seat belts in all buses. Um so we have to have a letter showing where where it was approved by the board on on the date and we have to enter that into Sentinel and Miss Nolan and I will get that done. Um this is part of the safety plan that that's out there but anyway um we just we feel like that right now uh we'd rather wait and put our money toward new buses and next year we'll have to order a couple of new buses I think if that's time. We are not none of our buses
are eligible for the bus grant that we did before. They're not old enough believe it or not. They're not old enough to qualify for that but we're watching it and as soon as our buses become eligible we will apply for that again again because it paid for a little over half of our buses that we got so uh but we're not eligible right now. And we well at least need to order one bus but maybe two next year. And they'll be replacing? Replacing. Okay and you'll go with these They will have they will have seat belts. I don't think you can buy a bus now that doesn't have them. I thought that you're going to require them. >> Yeah and it's and it's the three point. It's it's cuz we have some that with lap
belts and they don't consider that enough. So of course our kids hate to do the lap belts and they really hate the three point but So once that bill is passed is the government kicking in anything to help out? On that cost? No. Interesting. Are the kids made to wear the seat belts? We try very hard to make kids wear the seat belts. The superintendent of schools reminds them quite often that the kids need to be wearing their seat belts. Uh The older the kids the harder it is to do. And I don't I really don't understand that because you see those kids our kids get in the car and they automatically fasten their seat belt. But they get on the school bus and it's not automatic for some reason. Especially I want to say
cuz Whitaker works on it all the time. That's why most of the old boys say it's really hard to fasten that belt around you know when they're going a long way but uh that's the three point belts are uncomfortable when you're traveling you know in two period to a football game. What does that look like? What are we talking about? Like like where is it? It It's the shoulder It's yeah it's it's like in a car seat because remember It sounded like >> don't you're probably so young that you don't remember but used to when seat belts first came out they were just a lap belt. So it's the shoulder and lap. But now it's So it's one, two, three. >> [clears throat] >> I'm sorry. What does it look like the three point belt?
The biggest problem is Just so you know what this is The bottom seat He doesn't remember lap belts either. The biggest problem is the seat belts and every row has three kids per seat so they have three belts and they Yeah and so they have three seat belts and they buckle all night but Yeah and if it's like a car those what you're talking about sticking out Yeah. Now they made the buckle a little kids in and so we put three well we can't put three kids on there but but the belts fit three. Now that sounds like an athletic bus is what you're needing specifically. Yes. Two of them are sitting on the bottom basically. You got to take this seat belt to this part of the >> [laughter] >> That's why he's going
to ask for next year is a travel bus that has >> [laughter] >> Hey I really think a bus with a with a restroom on it is a is the thing to do because you don't have to stop you know because if you have to stop a bus for a short trip you stop stop a bus you're stopped for a while because everybody has to go to the bathroom. It is but if you can just say it's in the back of the bus they don't ever use it. But anyway What's what's ball park on a new bus price? Uh about $150,000. And I think that would be a cheap one. We used to get them for less than 100. I think the last ones we bought were like 90 something bucks. The the last one
I looked at was 150 I think. Yeah. And they'll go up more price. About what you're giving them for. Yeah. There's no bargain. >> [clears throat] >> I'd still take half of a bus. Yeah. But then you had to destroy the old ones I guess. We did. We had to drill a hole through the floor. And we had to film us filling the hole through the floor and prove that we did that. So we just You know it it was like throwing away rotten bananas. It's really hard because the buses weren't all that bad. It's just they still ran but in order to qualify for the grant you have to destroy the bus. >> [snorts] >> We we did sell the metal. Not much for it. So I needed motion on that one. So I
have to send that proof to the state that somebody made a motion to do it and seconded it. And voted on it. It's still my opinion that's money better spent on new buses versus these older ones that you're you're about to get rid of anyway. Yes we are all in agreement that we want seat belts in all the buses but the but the game plan is to purchase new buses in the future. And maybe in two Yeah. five years to be compliant. There's a couple of '08 models and '07 here. But we don't They don't plan on using those for very often, right? It wasn't very often. One of them One of them is a route bus. Not a route bus. No, not a route bus. No. I think one of them is a route
bus, I think one of them is. I don't know about the value of them, but I can't see us spending $37,000 on them. A 20-year-old bus. Not worth fixing Well, it's not worth it. And charter And charter route we'll replace it next year. Well, we We try to Well, we always do when it's not a town trip. We want They going to bus it has to have seat belts in it, a newer bus. Of course Our buses are all air-conditioned now. Yes. So, there's We still have There's still school districts out there that don't that Something wrong with the window and letting air in. >> [laughter] >> One of the things that This is bird-walking a little bit on you all, but I will tell you one of the things that we found over the
years is with air-conditioned buses that bus discipline is much better. The The behavior on the bus is much better when you don't have wind whipping you in the face. And uh And you don't You're not having to talk talk so loud and all that and everything. So, it's really easy to There's been some pluses on that. And we're full. >> [laughter] >> 15 windows open, 30 windows. It's all air. Yeah. And I don't believe it was really just some kind of things going out the windows. Exactly. This was checking and we're saying cuz it I don't know if you get the call. You got a student on this bus throwing something out the window. And you And that's with the windows up, but they see it. We don't get the We don't You don't have
those calls anymore. It's very nice. One of the other things that that another bird walk I'll say. One of the other things that really helped us is putting a monitor on the bus in the afternoons. Uh that really assists the driver, keeps the driver looking forward and or driving the bus and the bus monitor handles any kind of little disturbance, make sure the kids are on the bus, make sure the kids getting off at the right place. It's been a really, really plus, I think. And making sure that seat belts are fastened. What is our action here? This is what we're looking at here. It's TEA here. Well, it's the And then I'll ask it to you all. Oh, we'll sign it. Yeah. Okay. I'll make a motion that we send this letter to TEA
about seat belts. I'll second that. Carry my motion and then Jay second to send the letter of oppose of denial. I don't know if Just supporting the plan. >> Supporting. Supporting our plan. Supporting the plan. That's good. There you go. Uh all four. Passed six to zero. I think I have a broken arm here. Uh Consideration of the investment report. Motion to accept as presented. I'll second. Motion by Derek, second by Josh to accept the investment report as presented. All four. Passed six to zero. They said I didn't have a space for that. I don't think I'm going to I think he fixed it. Uh I'm going to recommend we go into executive session. I have six four. Six four to three.
