regular meeting of the Pine Lawn ISD Board of Trustees at 6:00. Uh everybody's present. And I guess George, do you mind leading us in the pledge? >> Sure. Heavenly Father, we thank you for allowing us to be here with you and just just be after all of us and be be with all of us as we go through this meeting and make decisions in in in your will. Um Keep keep your eye and hands on the faculty, staff, students, Lord, and help guide them through through their day. We thank you for all the blessings that you give us. And please allow us to to have the open eyes and open ears to to hear and and receive those blessings. Um We love you and we praise you. In your name, we pray. >> Amen. >>

Will the audience rise? Let Carrie lead us in the pledge. >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Uh Everybody had a chance to review the previous minutes? >> Did I not give you a an agenda? >> I already read it. And then I I thought I knew what everybody >> Uh okay. Did anybody see any things out? Okay. Moving to consider the revenue budget. >> We're doing very well. This [snorts] is the end of February and we've been 7 months in our year. It's right on target. And our tax collections are still washing. Thank you. Above what they will be in a month or two. We've collected 4 $472,313.73.

If I could bird walk just a little bit, I'll >> Oh, did we turn it >> Yes. Okay. >> If I could bird walk just a little bit and tell you that when that came in, we took that added to what we already had in fund balance and we have paid off the big note. We owed $35,000 and they pay that right now, but we're we're trying to We have the money. We just for some reason the bond people don't want you to pay it off right now, but but anyway, we're in effect out of debt and that should be a good feeling for us. Yes. >> Okay. Looking for a motion to approve consent agenda. >> I'll make a motion to approve consent agenda. >> I'll second. >> Uh motion by Terrell, second by

Josh to approve consent the to approve the consent agenda. This is All in favor? >> Aye. >> 6 to 0. >> Speaking of those minutes, thank you for putting in all of our individual names after every single vote. >> I would say campus reports you don't have to flip a coin. >> I'm I'm not going to wait till Wednesday. I'll just generate in there. >> [clears throat] >> Well, hey, welcome back to the wild. It's been a while, so I think what was that? >> November November, yeah. >> Yeah, so and I gave everyone a copy. This is our latest math growth that we did this right before we left for the Christmas holidays. And I'm not going to go over all of this. You can I'll let you do that. >> [snorts] >> Pretty

much gives an average if you can tell of what the overall like kindergarten, first grade, third grade, whatever are doing as far as reading and math growth. Math growth and has broken down by teacher. Um so you can look through that. In some areas I think we're struggling the most probably in our early grades. Not necessarily that we're struggling. We are making growth, but um we would like to see more growth. But that's typical of you know, the middle of the year. We still have a lot of work to do, so all the teachers are really working hard. Um currently right now we have 83 of our students are receiving special services and that's a large amount. Um so we continue to work with that special population. Um but again, it is almost a third

of our campus. So, um we are very blessed to have a lot of teachers that are capable of differentiating instruction and meeting all those students' needs. On a positive note, also, we were recognized for the educational results partnership for our 2025. We made the honor roll list again. And also, we made the list for the US US News & World Reports for best elementary schools. In order to get that, you have to be within the top 40%. So, kind of to break it down, they This was over 4,300 4,437 schools in the state of Texas. In reading, we are 1,067. In math, we are number 467. So, fairly impressive. So, that's great for our school to get that recognition. I think middle school is also on that ERP list, but I don't know that. I'll

check that. And you know, we had we had a family call. They bought some property here. I'm not sure where. She said on County Road. She couldn't remember. So, but that was one of the first thing she said. She said we've researched your school. And she said, you know, you have a really great school there. They have two One will be on your campus next year and one was on our will be on ours next year. But that's a good thing that they do look at that and and see where we are and that we're doing great things with our kids. So. And also, this past week, we finished up our GT testing. So, we're just waiting on the results of that. Amber does the testing and then we send that all off and it

goes to Region 14. They score it and then they send back those results and then we have to follow our correct scoring criteria to determine what students will make that make it into GT. Then, this next week we start our campus testing. So, you know, if that season is just going to be like one test after another, but right and then after that it will be spring. So, this year is going back. Anybody have any questions about this? Feel free to send me an email or shoot me an email or >> [snorts] >> Thank you. >> I I think it was in December. >> Um so, I started off the year last minute in November. We were just beginning basketball and working on our A+ UIL academics competition. So, in December we took we started

off with 88 students, but in December we took 77 students to Highco to compete in UIL academics. And we placed third overall and had we got to take our OAP to competition, we probably would have been pushed up into either one or two. So, Ms. Winegar and I have a plan that next year we're going to get that position cuz we're very competitive. Um so, um chess was our strongest event with our team placing in sixth, seventh, and eighth grade. So, that's that's pretty impressive because our sixth grade one of our sixth graders won the gold medal and then his team won the gold medal as well. So, overall our campus did very well and we had students as soon as we got back said, "When can we do this again?" So, that was pretty

exciting for us to have students who it took us a lot of effort and planning to get those groups and the rotations made. We dedicated a 41 minutes um on Thursdays and then a pep rally and on Fridays we bunked to high school pep rallies. So, in 3 days we did a lot of work and our we had three teachers who were dedicated to building the rotations, so they did an excellent job. So, we finished our fall semester with our middle of the year's math testing and when we came back in January we partnered up with Avery Wright from Region 14 and Laney Mullins and they went over our teacher. Our biggest emphasis was closing the gap. Um that was our B on the report card and so, uh they worked with our teachers to

identify those to look at the data and build rotation groups. So, what this spring semester is to place over UIL, we're doing the skill sets for those students. Um we overlook sometimes the kids who are already up at the top and we can get points for those if we push them a little harder. So, we're doing a rotation for approaches, meets, and masters so that the all kids are touched on that rotation. Sometimes they're Miss Lexi's amazing job with their GT students. So, it's we're we're packed. So, um we are our seventh-grade Lady Cats when we finished up our we were the undefeated Lady Cat undefeated district champs. We're very proud of those. Our seventh-grade boys are working very hard. Our eighth-graders um there's growth there, but they were a small class anyway, so it's

kind of hard, but they are they work hard and you see them trying so hard, but it was just that they they sometimes would play combo teams just to to make the team, but they tried and we have to give them effort for the try, but we know they'll do better. And then we're rolling right into our track season. Um we are excited to let you know that we have enrolled five students uh two in eighth grade, two in seventh grade, and one in the sixth grade. So, um our attendance has been holding steady at 95%. We seem can't seem to get well. When we get one group well, then the teachers go out and then we restart the cycle all over again, but um we start the fifth six weeks tomorrow and it's one

of our busiest six weeks and so we we are ready to go. So, and and I'll look at that emails so I can find out, but that data but next month. So, but we're doing pretty good on our campus. We have a lot of excitement going on. The kids come in um and they're waiting on us, so we're we're ready for them. So, if you have any questions, please let me know. >> Thank you. They say that this spring semester has just been absolutely crazy and I always looked at it from the outside in. Now I get to be the inside out and they were not lying. So, I just made a list of everything that we are doing and what is going on for our kids right now that I can think of. Uh

tomorrow night is our basketball boys senior night. Uh Jake Cooper will be recognized. He is our senior. Um and then baseball and softball has started. They've both been doing scrimmages and tournament play. Uh golf is starting. One act plays in full swing. They've had three clinics already. Academic UIL teams have been chosen and they've started their practice. FCCLA competition is coming up in this fifth six weeks. UIL solo and ensemble for band and UIL solo and ensemble uh excuse me concert and sight reading will be prior to spring break. Band is going this weekend for their UIL solo and ensemble and then the week before spring break they go to concert and sight reading. >> [snorts] >> The stick nights for our phlebotomy kiddos were an amazing success. Uh but they only got to do

two of them this year because of the ice they lost a day. So they Uh talking to Mr. Amerson Mr. Jordan they want me to invite everybody to stop by the school. They've got about three more girls that need 15 more sticks. So if you ever in our area please come in and roll up your sleeve and let them Uh I think they had Yeah we're going to do it tomorrow morning. It's already known that they're coming to play there and they But that was Thursday last week so maybe they He told me he was going to do it. He is going to do it? >> That's what he told me. >> Okay so come tomorrow night >> [crying] >> on our day and get your arm stuck. You can do one in each arm

and you can these two kids can get it. Um our e-sports has started their competition. Uh student schedules for the 26-27 school year has begun. We believe we have all our juniors already scheduled to be next year's seniors. We're starting our sophomores that will be juniors. Um FFA students did very well in Kerrville this past week. I talked to Josh today. Had a lot of places third through sixth. So he was very proud of them. TSI Topaz and ACT testing. Some were happening and some are coming up within the Topaz will be this week coming. ACT is also on the horizon for us. Thank you, Ms. Quinn, for taking care of a lot of our testing for us. All of these great things are happening at the high school along with our staff showing up

and rolling up our sleeves every day with all our kids spread this thin, teaching and trying to keep all those that are traveling involved in keeping you know, [snorts] in in the classroom and trying to help that out. So, I really want to give props to my staff that have really gotten there in tutorials, keeping them a little bit late, taking them that last second, coming at lunch. We have a lot of them giving giving up time at lunch coming and having kids come in to make up things. So, we've been working real hard. We don't do a middle of the year MAP testing due due to all of our other testing that we do. So, we only do a beginning of the year, end of the year MAP testing for us. Um I would

also like to say our guardians went to TAC Pro this morning and all of us have re-qualified except for one and she was not with us today. She has a ill She was ill and she could not go. Um but I want to really give props to Nikki Woberson who you know about his shooting finger. He shot everything left-handed today. He's still waiting to go. So, it was just fun to stand beside him and watch him struggle but this last time he shot way better than I did and I shot better than him today. But >> [clears throat] >> I think he still qualified just shooting left-handed and I could not. So, anyway, thanks. >> [snorts] >> Thank you. >> As far as athletics, I know they touched on a little bit. We'll complete the

basketball season Tomorrow high school and then get rolling. Hopefully starting next week all spring sports will be fully full go. Golf has its first first tournament going next week. Track has its first track meets which will be hosting here on junior high on Monday and then high school on Thursday. So that'll be a big event for us. Baseball had their first game today. Softball started last week in games and then so it goes off and running. Our baseball started off with a win today. Baseball numbers are up. Softball numbers are a little bit down this year. They were projected to be up but then in the last couple weeks it went down. Track should be up in both programs and then in golf we have a pretty significant number of golfers out again this year.

And girls about the same and then boys program was going to be able to play out two varsity team games JV team. I think we're close to both what what close to 14 there so but all that's going good. We're hitting it middle of our off season stuff. Our girls and boys have kind of started to track together so we're kind of going through on the same schedule now. We're running the same workouts and using our new laser systems that the booster club got us and we're testing flying tens and 40s every single day or every other day. We're doing track conditioning workouts on the opposite so we make sure we get speed work in as long as well as our conditioning you know multiple times a week and then our boys testing and girls

will both start getting testing numbers for off season right before spring break. We'll do one more test to see how we're doing from we tested right before Christmas break on a bunch of stuff so we'll hit another test kind of our mid spring test to see where we're at and then again at the end of the school year but everything's going good. I think our culture is you know continuing to take a turn, um and you know, the part I want on the boy side every day it for sure has gotten better and better. Our leadership is really starting to step up, seeing kids step out of their um comfort zone that I hadn't seen in all the time I've been here, kids talked but hadn't talked before and our numbers are growing there. I

know we've gotten a few new kids, um um few new kids at the middle school level and then I guess we've gotten returned a couple student athletes as well. And so that's really good to see, you know. So our numbers are continuing to progress there and then um like I said, we're excited we've got a couple new ones at the junior high level, girls athletes that added in there as well. And um they're doing a really really good job, continuing to improve and junior high girls had a really successful year, especially the seventh grade basketball group and high school girls are continuing to improve and get better and just trying to continue to build that culture and get it going in the right direction. They're doing a good job, working hard. >> And that's she's

quiet. She finished. >> [clears throat] >> Thank you very much. >> Yeah, we appreciate it. >> Thank you, coach. >> You're welcome. >> Say goodbye. >> Bye-bye. >> Uh I just wanted to come and kind of brag and brag on our counselors. Uh February is National School Counselor Month and so they do a lot of things behind the scenes and they're all very, very also with all the different things uh going on. Elementary, uh that is more focused, she has a lot of groups coming in, classroom activities. So there's just more group focused where as we get older it turns into more individualized planning and things with 6th through uh 12th grade. Miss Bates has been doing character ed with the students and this helps us support our academics, our social, our emotional learning. Uh

they've been doing internet safety lessons, which is so important cuz they're all on these and with more AI, it's going to become harder. It's harder for us as adults to understand what's true and what's real and what is what is not. And uh she's also been doing uh bully presentations with them. Uh we do have some girls coming up in the spring that we have Region 14 coming in to help. That's with our uh abuse prevention, sexual abuse, just abuse, human trafficking. So, Jessica Sigford is an LPC and she's coming down in the spring to help. And we're with those because it's very difficult for us. The state requires these things, but there's not a curriculum and they don't say, "We're not endorsing, but here's a list." We've been waiting many years for that to

come out and it's still and so we all have different people coming in to help us with those things. Amber also works with all the students on career awareness K through 5, but this year we purchased Zello. Zello is an online career career program and we're already using it with 6 through 12. And so this gives us the opportunity to start at an earlier age introducing students to the careers that maybe they'll have an interest in and see what they would like their life, you know, what they envision. And uh so we're excited about that. Amber, we just got that set up last week or the week before, so she's ready to go with uh that program. Uh middle school, one of the things that we're doing both middle school and high school, we partner

with Open Door out of Cisco and they're the ones coming in doing our sexual abuse, human trafficking. Dating violence is required for 7 through 12. So, all of that is kind of a combination in that program. She's meeting with ninth graders numerous times, and then she has two or three sessions with the older kids because they also had it in middle middle school. Uh Terra works also works with Zello, and so she works with sixth and seventh grade awareness. More in depth with the eighth graders. The eighth graders right now, P-TECH program. I know when I spoke to Amber the other day, their applications are due back March 1st. She already had 12 turned in to look at the P-TECH program. Uh she is starting next week on the 23rd meeting with the eighth graders

working with their ninth grade schedules. And so she'll coordinate with Ms. Boswell on doing that. We had our P-TECH meeting first week of fifth fifth January. We had a large turnout. We had a lot of parents and students came to the program. So we're really excited about that. Uh Terra continues working with character education each month. Uh as I said, middle school starts beginning more individual planning. She has a lot of meetings individually. If there's a reason that we need to refer out, we have a counselor referral list. We're not endorsing any uh one, but we have a list and parents can also take that and and make choices if if they feel there's something more than just what we as school counselors are allowed to do. Uh high school as you can tell from

Mr. Miller, very busy. Very very busy. Uh talked to Dr. Door right now. I know Ms. Boswell is trying to meet with everyone individually because it's not just a schedule like it might have been when we went to school. Do you have your English? Do you have your math? Now it's what program of study are you doing? Do you have an endorsement? What's your program of study? Are you a concentrator? Are you a completer? Do you have an IBC that's going to match this? So when you're working with one of those students, you have about four pieces of documents out in front of you. And so, it it does take longer. It takes longer to to work with these students. We want to make sure that they are working towards something that they're interested in

and having opportunities like the health science programs, the STEM knots, and things like that working with them. In in the fall, we had the Miss Boswell had the career fair. It was great. There were over 40 businesses represented, and eighth grade was able to come over and visit with that. And I think it was just a great event. If you have the chance next year to come up, it was really uh very impressive. And the kids were talking and asking questions, and so it was great. Uh she also, in January when we had Education Go Get It Week, she set Friday aside for just the seniors. They had activities all day, and they all started on a resume. They ended up the resume built, working on it. There was a session where they did go

to talk about the scholarships. That is in full swing. They've already turned in round one. Round two has been passed out, and so they're working on those. Uh she had someone in there to help them talk about their essays and writing their essays on that. So, there's a a lot of things going on. Um they're also their testing coordinator is also, except for Lori's campus. Uh Kelly Hair does that, and then Amber assists her with the with the activities for STAR. But on the other two campuses, Tara's in charge of it on her campus, and Natalie has it on on the high school campus. And that is gearing up. We start We did field testing February 2nd through the 6th, and every campus this year was was selected. So, we had we had five, I

think, going on, and we are starting TELPAS testing on Wednesday morning. And then we'll run into STAAR Alt, and then all of April we'll be doing STAAR testing. So. Anyway, they're very busy, and they do a great job, and I just wanted to have a chance to say thank you to them and let y'all know all the different things that they are doing on campus, cuz sometimes it's uh behind the scenes that everybody doesn't see everything when they're meeting with the students, so. >> And we really appreciate the leadership and time that Ms. Glenn shows, because we all depend on her a lot. So, thank you, Ms. Glenn. >> Yes. Yes. Uh right now, all the programs are just sailing through right now. Uh the construction class that we put in, that's part of the

TRPN grant with Gorman, and it is just Mickey Don works with Brooke in doing the construction class. Her aid has been really great. It is going really well. And uh ARPEP, uh that's that's smooth sailing right now. We had a budget meeting. I think we've got another one coming up this month. >> Tomorrow. >> So, Tuesday. >> Wednesday. A little bit more on that. Uh that's good. Uh Um I hope that uh Comanche joins the group, because they have a automotive program that is just out of this world that I think would benefit our kids to be part of that. So, we've got uh technology that we can do go. We've got construction. And if we have the automotive, this is going to be things we just don't have room for uh to be able

to teach. Uh I've been working with Allen on coding on King's coding. We're going through courses to make sure everything is in the computer correctly. Of course, that affects all the funding and we want to make sure that's right on. So, we've been working on that. Okay and I, we've been working on again coding getting ready for scheduling to make it easier for the high school to look at the courses. So, we've made some homework set just really some crosswalks and different things for the programs to make it easier for them when we all start the scheduling coming up. So, busy. >> And also Coach Whitaker and I are going to job fair on Wednesday at Charleston. So, we went last year and it was a really a great turnout. Um So, it's about 2

hours and all the students and I'm assuming it's just students that are graduating. >> That's what the >> Yeah. >> all the information said. >> Is it all majors or just education? >> This is just education. We've been to both last year and the other was not very beneficial for us. Um but anyway, there was a huge turnout and a lot of schools there. >> Yeah. >> Brandy passed out some candy to get people to >> Yeah, draw them in. >> And pass them out. >> Mhm. Thank you. Uh I guess moving on to 6.2. Counselor program recognition. Oh, that's what Kate did that. That's what I thought, but Uh I guess we're down to facilities part. program. >> Well, everything's going well. We have a great maintenance staff. I just I don't know if

I'm allowed to name names. They really do a good job and um I think everything's I mean, it breaks to get six pretty quickly and I I teachers feel like that we respond to them. Um all the major projects are completed that we started. One of the things that that we're trying we're getting ready to do is uh to make uh as they were smiling we're going to replace the flooring in her in her building uh which I think was there a long time ago before me. Uh but anyway, uh we're going to get new flooring in in the middle school and uh I don't Can y'all think of anything else >> The speaker in the gym they were working on it. >> The speaker in the gym and it needed a you know for

some reason they don't last very long but anyway we're replacing that. And >> They worked on the elementary on our what will be a new life skills room next year. >> Yes, yes, yes. We're doing that in house this as as weather weather comes along they can go over there and work inside and >> They did some over the holidays and kind of divided it made little partitions divide the rooms up into three different sections so that >> Because of that 80 What did you say? 83 uh students >> And I think we still have eight to test that Mrs. Downey's testing. >> And our fields look beautiful. >> I was going to say that and I was and the playing fields look gorgeous and they really really do. One of the things that that

is on my list is is to re- sheath the the stand I don't know what you call it. I guess it's concession and the announcer booth at the softball field. You know, it's just peeling and and paint won't stay on it anymore and and that's all. Uh probably this summer that we'll try to get to that and uh maybe even do something about the baseball because it's kind of orchid instead of maroon. >> [snorts] >> It always was. It's kind of I think that she that metal was donated to us, but it was never maroon. It was kind of orchid. But anyway, it was still nice to have it donated to us at the time. But uh I think everything's going well. I just think that that we're very fortunate to have the men working

for us that we have and and because they all drive a bus. Well, one the newest one doesn't drive a bus yet, but he will. But they all have their CDLs so they can fill in. A couple of them even have regular routes. And that makes it really really nice for us not to get caught in that bind of not having a bus driver and and that is really really really wonderful. And both Mickey and and David uh work with our kids sometimes on projects and and Mickey and David >> The real record bus is here every day. >> And David uh on on when they're building those trailers and things has really played a big role in that and and it's really been a great experience because it's it's made them I think it's

made them see the instructional side more clearly than than they ever have before, but it's been a blessing to us because they're very talented and know what they're doing. So. >> Great. Uh 6.4 Board review of district goals. >> I put that in your agenda. These these goals were set in the bylaw now. They they tell us what we have to do. And so these we reviewed them last year totally and they and if you notice in the principals are giving their report, we are very close to achieving many of the goals already in academic growth, but it does give us something to measure ourselves by. So, so we're very conscious of it when we write our campus plans and our district plan every year. So, it's a guideline for us, but these are set

for 5 years or something. I don't believe it's till 2029, but but anyway, it does give us some guidance on on what really has to be done. So, we make those wonderful lists that Lori and and and women said we're both just talking about. Um so, anyway, all is well. Uh anytime you want to talk about what we're doing and whatever. And if in my formal evaluation every time I give you a report where we are. >> Uh compliance with Senate Bill 11. >> Okay. This is This is Senate Senate Bill 11. It's in your packet. Um So, we have to talk about whether or not we're going to have a daily period of prayer and reading the Bible or other religious texts actually set aside. And it's up to to you all to decide

whether we want to do that or we do not want to do that. Um I gave you all the information I had from TASB to read through. Um I have often said that as long as we give tests in school, we will have prayer. I don't know a lot of kids do a lot of praying before they take a test. And there are times when kids can read what they want to during the library periods or whatever and if lunch periods or whatever. Uh I schedule is very tight. To set aside a period every day I'm not recommending anything to you all. I'm just saying our our schedule is very, very tight. Later on, you'll have the opportunity to vote on um a resolution. I put a copy of one that says we will not

and I put a copy of one that says we will. And so, later on, you can you can vote on that. Um We have Fellowship of Christian Athletes. We have lots of organizations where our kids are um are pretty involved in in uh not a specific religion, but in in Christian activities uh and they and we don't deny kids that want to do anything else anything else. We don't Anyway, questions? >> And when we're talking about praying or reading, um they're referring to the students doing that. >> Students. >> Mhm. >> Yes. >> When would the period take place? >> During the school day. >> But this >> We'd have to schedule it. It'd have to be a scheduled time. If if we decided to do that, it'd have to be it'd have to take

time time away from something else. Not that that's not important. It just isn't it is it's just that that I don't I don't see any of our teachers any of our principals denying students the opportunity to have religious thought or read things that they would in school. >> That's my thought on it. As long as we're not doing anything to prohibit it, I don't see that we would have to do anything to require it. >> So, if you had a period, what would happen with those students who were not interested in protecting? What would they do during that time? >> Yeah, that's exactly right. I don't know what I'd do with the others. Yeah. It would >> It would be a large portion. >> Yeah. So, anyway, that sponsors two resolutions in the in the

back when we get to vote, when y'all get to vote. And it has to be voted on before March the 3rd. >> Do we want to discuss it now or wait till >> [snorts] >> later? >> I think we discuss it now. So, we can >> Is there a duration of the period that's required? >> No. >> All I can say it says must be set aside for a period which to me could be >> [clears throat] >> 5 minutes or could be 45 minutes. I mean I mean, I'd like to get >> I like those pieces. >> You didn't put that in. >> I don't see our place to require it. >> I agree. >> That's just not something I see that we should do. That's my opinion. I certainly don't want to prohibit

it, but >> Agreed. >> It shouldn't be a requirement. >> One of the resolutions said that it does say that it does not prohibit students from doing that. >> That's my fault. >> One of the resolutions went out. >> Okay. Uh The res- the second resolution is in in the very last page of your of your packet. Um It says that we can reconsider this anytime we want to, but number three says nothing in this resolution prohibits or limits students or employees religious expression that is otherwise permitted under the state and federal law. So, it doesn't prohibit them from doing it. We're just saying we're not setting aside a period to do it. >> A set time every day to And I'm kind of like Josh. I I hate to set a set time every

day. >> I feel like you're going to benefit >> You're going to benefit some people. >> of kids that are just taking advantage of having some time off. That's my thought process. >> Go ahead, sir. >> We're not setting the time anyway cuz that for pledges we say and now I'm going to want to say a silence. >> And that's that's the current in place. >> We do that every day. >> And and that is the state law. You have to observe all of those silences. >> Well, thank you, chairman. I appreciate you saying that. I didn't >> And and then we also offer FCA. >> Mhm. >> Yeah. >> Yes. >> And we're not going to stop anybody. >> I'm not going to stop anybody from As long as they read the Bible during

their pledges. >> No, read it. >> Read it. That's the thing. I don't think we have to require it. Do you know where this came from? >> From this legislative session state. >> But I mean, do you know the origin of it? >> No. I Well, I I have read it, but I can't tell you right off the top of my head. >> Because they're I'm just thinking it may not be what think. It may be something else. Because there are parts of the day in which something else meets their time to do that. >> That's That's where my concern would be. If it don't open up to all kinds of stuff. >> And And And that And that's something else that's currently in the legislature. So, that's why I was wondering if you know

what the religion was. >> It doesn't say Bible. It says religious texts. It could [clears throat] be So, it could be anything. >> Any religion. >> I just don't see the approach here. >> I'm staying out of it. Right. Non-preventative, but it's not really our place to. I don't feel like we should tell people to go in there. >> Yeah. >> Or to require it. But I'm sure not going to I'm not going to resist it, either. I mean, say they can't do it. >> Right. >> [snorts] >> You can go later. Okay. >> Uh We're worried about it and I guess 66 is more training opportunities. >> Okay. I continue to watch for and and I don't think you all got the legislative update. It was pretty much you already knew it, because we've

talked about it a lot. And but you will receive more training credit for that. Um if I find something else that comes along, I'll get it out to you. You can always go on uh this uh online training at taspd.org and um there's some training offered. And if you want to do that, just let us know and we'll get you registered or you can register yourself. I think I think Miss Morris knows how to do it. She's done several of them. Oh, do you? Well, we'll we'll do it for you if you decide you want to do one. >> Moving on to action items, series of resolutions. >> We did not have donation requests this week this month. >> Good skipping that. We'll go to consideration of artificial intelligence district policy. >> Yes, and and

we've met as all of our principals and our staffs and and and um and actually a group to talk about this for a long time. AI is here. It's going to stay. We believe, and as do a lot of other people, that we needed some guidelines. And so, we researched everybody on the on the group brought in what they needed, and we put together this This is not board policy. It's just our policy that that probably will change as we go along, but for right now, this is what we'd go by for the use of artificial intelligence by our students and our teachers. It's very similar to some other school districts and and our policy is very similar to theirs. So, we we worked together. >> So, each assignment will be assigned a tier. Is

that how it works? And >> even though the lady that came to talk to us about grants the other day said uh it was about a specific particular grant. She said, "We know that kids are going to use >> I was going to say if the assignment is not done in school, you can't control that. it. >> we know that. What we What she was saying uh is that tell the students to use it. And then take what they got and reword it, redevelop it, but use it as a tool rather than the total source. And I think that's what we want our our students to learn to do is to use AI as a tool. We're all using it more and more every single day. Even my husband uses it sometimes, which is amazing.

But I just think that we we have to understand it's here. Uh what about 4 or 5 years ago we went to a session when it was just getting really hot and these professors were talking. They were college professors and they were talking about it that how they were trying to keep their their students from using it. But by the time they did a a block and understood it, the students had already figured out another way around it. So they just They had said then, it's here. Learn to use it. Learn to use it to your advantage. And so I I think that's what we're going to do. >> So any of the professors answered as well? It seems to be more community needs your tools getting out there. >> I I just I watched

a I did a classroom observation in Kensey Garcia's classroom and the way she used it was pretty amazing. And so they had to their class to their constructive responses for the story test. And so she opened up Magic School AI so that it could give them instant feedback. And so then so that she said, "I'm only going to open it one time. You get to use it during the classroom. And if you don't finish your assignment, that's that's on you." So uh so the students focused on it and they liked the feedback that because however she formatted it, it gave them immediate feedback on how to strengthen it this up or that up and how to do this? And so, the kids were very engaged with that, and they were willing to write. And so,

that's Kids do not like to write. And so, for them to know that they get to use it in a controlled environment really gave them a So, I think it goes back to what you were saying, that if it's done correctly and under parameters and guidelines, it can be a beneficial to the students. And the feedback that By the time we grade the papers and give it back to them, we've moved on to another assignment, so it wasn't instant feedback. So, it was a good program. >> Well, I don't I mean, it's here. >> You should upload your thing. >> I've got to where I I don't use it a whole lot, but I use it every day at work on different aspects. >> When I teach >> I I mean, it's to me, it's

one of those that if we're in the school we're teaching >> I have not I've not used it on a letter of recommendation, but I've done it on >> Okay, I did. >> Well, we live in a world of >> Yeah, instant >> Instant gratification. It's It's part of that instant. >> It is. Okay. Just need to add a period. >> I'll make a motion to approve the artificial intelligence district policy. >> I'll second. >> Uh motion by Terrell, second by Jay, to approve the policy as it's written. All four? 6 to 0. Uh district calendar. >> It's It is result of a lot of input from a lot of teachers. I guess everybody on the staff had an opportunity to do it. This is had a series of meetings with a check committee. The

ESC meeting. The ESC meetings and and Um it's a really I think it's a good solid calendar. I think it starts school August the 3rd. Um Well, the teachers come on August the 3rd. Students won't come till the 13th, but just to get to get the days in. Um Recording. >> I was happy for you guys. You know what you're doing. Basically that's the calendar you need. That's what you need. So you get August to May 19. >> It's a few more days than we had this past year, but one of the things that the state has done um it hasn't said you can't have a four-day week, but it said that that you have to have 165 days or you don't qualify for grants anymore. So in order to qualify for grants, you have

to have at least 165 days. And we have a How many How many I haven't counted lately. >> Um I'm here. We're We're a little bit over at >> We know we're at 165 maybe on the day. >> The minutes. >> We're a little over on minutes. >> Yes. >> So that if we did have a bad weather, um it would save a couple of days, so we'd be covered. We will have to use I think you probably already got that email. We will have to use one day one of our bad weather days for um because of the the snow or ice. >> Wait if this is the calendar that both of you agreed on. >> I make a motion to approve calendar. >> Second. >> Motion by Josh, second by Derek to 2026-2027

district calendar. All approve. All four of you. >> I think that's where you all got the handshake. >> [snorts] >> Six to zero. Uh I guess now we're down to consideration of resolution regarding Senate Bill 1111. >> I think that's the >> I don't know if that's the one or what. >> It's Senate Bill 11. >> I mean I have I have to say I have I'm going to side with Josh on this one that we need to adopt the second one. But that's my opinion. I want to hear everybody else's. >> I said this is a tough one in some ways to to decide. >> [snorts] >> I just don't know that creating a period for this is the right move. Uh that's >> It's not permanent. I mean you can always go back

and make a change. >> But it says that we retain the authority to reconsider this at any time. >> It's big. Academics, athletics is the is the focus for education. And but definitely want there to be freedom of of religion and freedom to pray. >> I think I think there is here. I do think I think of course the the moment of silence uh only kind of an encouragement for for kids to and uh but there are some religious books in our libraries that that approved on the approved list, so I believe we have a Bible in our school libraries. I walk through teachers' classrooms I very often see a Bible or a something on their desk. I I don't I don't think they're pushing any religion, but they're certainly free to read what they

want to read. This is for teachers and students. >> So to say that we might a second resolution, how do we need to word the motion? >> I'll make a motion to not approve to not require period um at this time with the you know, with the clause of with no limitations on students' ability to pray in whatever fashion that you which is how it's written in resolution number two. >> Mhm. I I think that was a motion. I'll second that. >> Mhm. >> The motion is to not the resolution. >> To allow but not to infringe on >> to require >> Yeah, require is a better word. >> Require. There we go. Not to require every kid every campus to have a schedule period. That would be the next >> Next meeting would decline

to adopt >> Okay. >> I'll be meeting to decline decline to adopt the state >> Okay. What we're going to approve approve is the one we declined to adopt the statutory resolution. >> Yeah. I guess all four. I guess six to zero. Uh that takes us to personnel. Do we want to go into executive or do we just want to How do y'all want to do this? >> If there's no I don't think there's any need to >> You got I don't see a need but I'm that's me but >> I agree. >> Okay. >> We >> you made your motion, I'll make a motion to >> Let's go. >> I'll make a motion to approve the administrative recommendations of teachers, administrators, and all other professional contracted positions. >> Okay. >> I'll second. >> Motion

by Terrell to approve professional contracts as presented. Do you agree with that? >> What's your name? >> Okay. It's easier for me to say your name. Seconded by MJ. I guess all four. Passes 6 to 0. >> I agree with that statement. >> Okay. MJ. Unless there's any other items we need to discuss that I don't know of, we'll adjourn at 6:56. >> You make a motion? >> I'll make a motion. You hear the motion, do you? >> Okay, you can't leave unless you sign the paper first.
