001Hello, my name is Lynn Sperry and I serve as a McKenna ISD school board trustee. Each month after our board meeting, we provide our community with a brief summary of events and items covered during the meeting. The meeting was called to order with the announcement of a quorum followed by an invocation and pledges by led by board member Larry Jaggers. The board then held public comments on agenda and non-aggenda items and then entered into a close session. After reconvening in open session, the board heard a presentation on the Texas jobs, energy, technology, and innovation act. Assistant superintendent for business operations Dr. Dennis Wmac provided background information about the initiative and a representative from the light on technology corporation outlined a few aspects of the manufacturing proc proposal. Following that presentation, the board considered approval of

002the project and voted to not approve the initiative. Next, we listened to the 2026 and 27 budget and tax rate public hearing from Chief Financial Officer Marlene Harson. Then, we heard from Executive Director of School Leadership Jeff Banner as he reported on the intruder detection audit report findings. Mr. Mr. Banner informed us that the findings will be discussed in executive discussion rather than disclosed to the general public in order to protect the best interests of the students. Next, we heard from Chief Operations Officer Greg Subtle on the repurposing of three of the district's facilities. The CT Edins Student Support and Professional Learning Facility will house special populations administration, special population support programs, the McKini Education Foundation and Professional Development uh space. The Earl and Lahi Wolfford Student Support and Professional Learning Center will house club

003360 administration, Aramar Custodial Services, a daycare center and professional development space. The Arthur McNeel Learning Center will house the McKenna ISD Safety and Security Department, the Alternative Education Placement, Aramark Food Services, and the Herald Murphy Counseling Services. The final presentation was from Deputy Superintendent Melanie Raleigh as she outlined the McKenna ISD digital safety and responsible use task force. The purpose of the task force is to review and refine McKenna ISD's approach to digital safety, responsible technology use, educational screen time, and artificial intelligence while ensuring technology continues to support safe, effective, and innovative teaching and learning. Following the presentation, the board reviewed the consent agenda and the agenda was approved. Next, we moved into the discussion and action portion of the meeting. During this segment, the board voted Amy Dankle as president of the board, Harvey

004Wajaka as vice president of the board, and me, Lind Sperry, as secretary of the board. Monthly written reports were provided covering updates on donations, bond, energy, construction, transportation, human resources, advanced academics, athletics, and fine arts. The board also highlighted several upcoming district events, including Drumcore International on July 20th at the McKenna ISD Stadium, the new higher breakfast on August 3rd at McKenna High School, and the district convocation on August 7th at the stadium. Those are the highlights from this month's meeting. Thank you for your interest in McKenna ISD and the great work that is happening within our district.
