001[Music] hello again everybody from Ashland high school it's Ashland High School varsity sports on waca TV tonight the Ashland Public Schools in the tri valley League present boys varsity basketball with the ashon high school club ERS hosting a Medfield High School big blue Bob thaer Bob Martell and Dan Baker bringing you tonight's game being played on January 15th 2013 all righty Bo as we're uh we're past the halfway point of the season for these teams right tonight happened it happened awful fast Bob but the clock is the big blue comes in seven and two so I guess this is their last uh they must be the second first round game and Ashley four and six have also played a couple of non-league games so haven't quite been through the league completely yet get an idea
002who's good and who's not as good yes here we you'll pause for the national anthem [Music] the in [Music] [Applause] you know Norton has got a league loss according to one of the Midfield coaches so tight tight race then so Norton uh Medfield has got two League losses they lost their first two games of the season to Hoppington and Norton yeah and I've reeled off seven straights I understand Bob they're nice program they've always been a nice program talk to Eric Scott former uh Ashley and current Midfield ad and he said uh they have about exactly 200 kids more in their High School than Ashland does uh some of that is numbers but they've had good programs for a long time in Medfield especially basketball basketball always been strong and Herb Grace uh uh has
003continued the tradition they've been good for a while uh good fundamental basketball usually not flashy but very steady very deep ashan's got a tall Hill to climb tonight in their home gym it would be a big win for ash B we give him a lot of confidence going into the second half of their schedule John I rusi takes it right to the hope Shane with a tip John's 35 van CLE is 32 Shane Pas Antonio 33 who else is out there looks like Evan laau number four and Joe Burns 14 Burns playing a 131 and underneath a good defense they're going to start with a Zone see what midfields got uh in terms of perimeter offense so it's Evan and John ausi in the back court John found the lane the first time can't find
004it now what kind of defense is that Bob oh they're playing they're playing a a pack in zone it's kind of an amorphous me they're playing a match up zone right now Joey had to get it off the 30C shot clock was going oh boy van CLE really created a move good step around but from behind he might have had some contact there but no call filling each other out early on players to watch 14 Andrew Shay 34 Remy fola fola great name for the big blue actually the Big Baby Blue clockers in White John again John to the H but can't finish he gets his own re get though and he's a batler he is a batler yeah well said that's just the way you describe him CLE can't do anything thing Evan thought
005about a three Joe into Shane doubled they kick it out labau first points of the game first points of the game and a nice little Jay full court pressure broken easily and a dish and a contact and a very nice shot by Zimmerman one of the co- captains of the Warriors through the contact no call but made the basket which is what you're supposed to number five is the other captain and his name is Matt pemboke a very gentlemanly early uh Antonio doing some shoving he does not like the defense by P underneath John nice look nice finish John laau yep nice pass 4 two Ash and leading by two again the fullcourtpr this time it gives the Warriors a little trouble and they get it across the 10c line a three-point attempt wouldn't go
006Le bow wants to run yes three back for Medfield so he wisely pulls that one up Joey dishes to Aus he's already taken three shots which is a lot in the early going for him van cleff gets that pass off the head and then airballs it that's off John Aus yeah you can see the early strategy uh John Pendergast is going to be shadowing Shane p anonio on defense he's just going to harass him keep him from getting the ball and make the other Walkers play offense so far it's worked right yeah they haven't got the ball shot no shots one tip attempt and that's it 42 Ashen with the early lead looks like penbroke is your point guard and pendas is your offg guard again no looks like Zimmerman's decided he's going to be
007the shooter tonight so far Ashan ball no fouls and F yet and John got knocked to the floor first period action the clockers in the Big Blue from Ashland high school it's exam week Bob well that's why they're focused on his studies they're thinking right now about calculus well it's a half days is what is all I can remember thinking about on exam what did you do with your half days Bob study or well it depends sometimes just wanted to go back to bed if you had actually studied the night before get some extra sleep but it was a chance to go out to lunch as I recall lunch maybe uh maybe a movie now there now I think there's a lot of video games which helps with the hand eye coordination I'm sure in
008math skills I'm pre video game yeah we're more I'm pretty almost yeah I'm pre almost everything nice pass Shane in the spot up and oh it wouldn't fall oh kept in very nicely again this time Zim can't get it to go yeah he's had some nice chances had five shots already only made one yeah he's just been open I guess and I have a feeling looking at his form he's probably a scorer he's not among the two leading scorers but uh obviously as a captain he's a player Shane from the foul line no Joey Burns has a away blocked nice rebound but in among the Big Trees Shay alone running down the court a little trouble with it clock is playing good careful defense and a nice little turnaround by Andrew Shay wow that's one
009of those that is a sweet shot if you can let down a little bit that 6 foot oneand push shot though if you can make that Bob you're going to score yeah Evan for three uh-uh Shane's got it Joey along too no the Warriors fight each other for it Zimmerman comes down with it 44 with 252 left in the first period uh this is a real chess match not a lot of good shooting so far a bomb air ball air ball did he on me Jake carer number one stuck in the game on me and that's really a foul on 24 you can't just collapse on someone I know it was intentional but that's still a foul yeah it is's the first whistle of the game but with 231 left in the first period and
010kind of a Ticky tack there you know when uh when you fall on top of a player even if it's unintentional well still contact and it's still yeah you're not I know he wasn't pushed by anyone he just fell on top of him oh sneak away Zim in again yeah Shane has to has to foul two quick fouls first one on uh notu getting on me too I didn't see him come in Dave Mar and now Shane picks up his first and Zimmerman just keeps shooting he's taken at least six shots from the field and now he's at the line John Zimmerman the senior very nice form it's good we don't keep track of shooting percent he just hasn't gone for well for anybody so far Medfield Shane doubled underneath into the pressure nice rebound
011Bobby Shay stuffed him and then but Shane stuck with it well he's uh he's you might say forcing his offense no he he's got to take his offense and when he gets the ball on the Block box like that he has to go to the basket yeah almost never will he be unguarded yeah if being guarded is not forcing not an option for him if he's alone he'll probably miss the shot cuz he's not used to it he's got moves now though that create uh almost l under there he's so long makes you know when you make a good move you get it's almost an uncontested layup yeah he can create some separation he can run six is the score they break it Shay wild oh boy how did he get in there rebound put
012back by O'Reilly wow how did he get in there good position he came out of Noah 86 clock has Trail two as we talked about good fundamental basketball he made that play by getting good position early David for three that's his shot not this time Zimmerman a head to Pembroke he hustles it up but nowhere to go kager a shooter apparently Pembroke swish it's a three suddenly Ash's down five and this is what they do to you nothing spectacular just uh you know different players contributing and if they make their shots they're solid ball team joha rusi answers there a three nice Sean Five Points first period 11 to n clock is Trail by two Le to see hustle rewarded there John ausi is playing very high this period oh Shay Andrew sh a beautiful
013play who who made that pass was that from Zimmer you that pass I think it was Zimmerman and that that's what made the play little uh give and go uh roll off the screen heading right to the cool yeah let him perfectly yep 139 ashle Charley by four and the time called by coach Mark champag of the clockers yeah Mark didn't like what he saw there in defensive effort um sometimes Bobby when you get into a pattern of of playing a certain zone or a certain defense you have to change it up just to get the players to to pay attention to what their uh what their duties are and that maybe what he's doing he may come out of this timeout with a different uh a different defense clock of cheerleaders here tonight Bobb
014lending a little bit of uh support for the team with the exam week it's kind of a late crowd a lot of parents a few kids and the parents aren't nearly as vocal as the kids so good to have the cheerleaders here let's see we got um two four six eight nine cheer leaders yeah and they don't really lead cheers yeah they but they offer their support for support and they do some acrobatic moves clar's inbound bottled up out of bounds 12 left on the shot clock yeah as having trouble getting a a focus on offense once they once their Midfield has shut down Shane pretty much by uh denying him 50 seconds they have to figure out what their options are there's there's alone he waits for the contact but misses the shot yeah
015and never really got the Conta either didn't make the contact and get the bottom of the hoop rusy steals it brings it up himself watching behind him for carer takes it into the lane David didn't get that one crisp enough to shoot his three he's open now for the three now he's underneath now he goes to the arc but ayusi takes it in and sort of a wild shot yeah got himself caught in the air 10 seconds not much you can do once you're up in the air you can't change even know it six seconds and no nice move but he walked he took a little step ashing with 4 seconds they hopefully we'll have a good last shot Midfield going to throw a press at him and slow him up I guess that was
016Remy frola it's the first time I've seen him go to the hoop yeah another travel one second left yeah David Marson dragged his foot there had nowh to go with the ball and 1.1 left left Medfield he getss it away it's good if it goes but it doesn't the end of the first period is Medfield 13 and Ashley and nine no scoring in that final minute after the timeout by coach champagne talk about a feeling out period uh not much in the way of offense from either team but Midfield made a couple more shots uh John Zimmerman with four in that period and Andrew Shay with four uh like we said nothing spectacular B just steady Workman like but uh a 139 lead for Medfield at the end of the first period ashan's got to
017find a way to get uh uh pasc Antonio involved in the offense well uh it doesn't seem right that John I rusi's taken the most shots in the first period and uh John Hal is the leading scorer for the clarus with five of their nine points they got to get somebody else who's willing to to make a shot yeah well the defense that Midfield is playing they they're focused on chain Pas Antonio so he's always doubled if you do use him in the offense you can use him as the post pivot man uh to make passes which is for me a lot of PS to say in in the same sentence Pas anonio post pivot and passes but if they get him the ball Bob he can dish it to one of the other players
018if they're making a a move to the basket or or to get open because he'll have two on them that'll leave somebody open every time Clark has at another shooter the lineup Max feberg is in the game uh 21 yeah Max's a good energy guy and uh a good offensive player Morrison stays in as well David primarily a three-point shooter asan still in the zone no that's a second shot for goes John another rebound he's uh he's got a nose for the ball fineberg that's uh the quick release Shan over the back if he can see it he'll he'll shoot it Shane is second pass or second foul she you know I thought he just out leapt them yeah he he might have got him with the chest I must have yeah I didn't I
019didn't see it till the end you know for a goer again this is a new boy in the game 13 he's Robert O'Reilly I guess he's been in he's going to shoot this one beautiful look nice all alone at the ark and he he didn't miss it 169 Ash on trailing by seven just very uh very workmanlike open look made the shot they're not making a spectacular percentage but enough second period action the clockers and the Medfield big blue from Ashlin High School David's open takes it and makes it his first three of the night there he goes 1612 Ashen trilling by four it's such a weapon isn't it boob that three it's a Matthew kill in the game and he's wearing number 10 for the big blue Riley to kahill fragola yes that's his
020move but he turns it down gets it back there he takes it he's bottled up but the dipity he do as an air ball pretty move but David Morrison had held his ground right over the rim good defense there fineberg wants the drive fouled along the way now that's a good aggressive move to the hoop that will not be a shooting foul they gave it to uh who they give it to kill did they colot I could see no they gave it to kill you're right yeah inbounding for Ashland is Joey Burns iusi nowhere to go for John keeps his dribble alive Joe could have been called fineberg wants to go couldn't good defense but that left who is that nice nice Inlet pass it's 23 that time uh Alex christensen's in the game and
021he makes a basket on a nice play well he's a second option underneath and that's what's going to be open when they doubling chain somebody's going to be open underneath that they stage uh somebody on the other side block he's going to be open you got a jump ball called 1614 yeah they go to the floor jump ball possession arrow Ashland clock has Trail two 549 left B and that's the first time we've seen that second option inside Alex Christensen uh Shane out of the game now yeah a little blow the bomb uh-uh nice step in St by fineberg wants to drive well defended but he picked up the foul yeah drew the contact again that's twice he's done that and that's what you need a good aggressive push to the basket the secret to
022defense is if you're going to defend that play defend it out as soon as you can yeah because then you don't get the free throws yeah in in at least in high school basketball you don't Ste you get fouled near the foul line there's no way you're going to the line on any type of continuation Max has a quick step in uh big step so that got him free that time Dre the contact and makes both that helps draws the clock is even again Bob tie game 25 to go until halftime the goal is stolen by fineberg goes up to the right hand doesn't have the left hand B yeah he shifted hands through the contact well that was a layup yeah that was a layup if you didn't have to cross over that's the
023third foul that Max has drawn since he's been in there he's mad very effective they wanted to make that hoop nice free throw Ash takes the lead Max trying to make it a two-point bulge he does 1816 clock he's come in the game Ashan has played very well offensively what happened what happened did he walk you must have you must have dragged the foot cuz it wasn't a Time violation I watching the pass I never dreamed yet even had time to P that back foot unguarded yeah Alex finds fineberg he rolls to the hoop stops dishes Christensen strong to the hoop doesn't really get the [Applause] rim fragola in his spot back rims it David Morrison nice rebound getting his hands dirty underneath Midfield gets back well though they they defend very well they don't
024let the other team break true isn't it yeah no freebies Alex out High Shane out of the game block is essentially in a five guard offense here Joe Burns blocked David open for the moment it's another three another three and that's a big three as David moris who giv as on a five-point lead timeout Medfield his second three and uh that second chance was huge for them 2116 Ashley and now as they put a little distance between themselves and the the big blue uh once fineberg went into the game uh once Alex Christenson went into the game and once David Morrison went into the game uh Shane the star on the bench as he was getting roundly beaten I mean physically under the basketball and two fouls and two fouls uh they played better uh
025I think Medfield wasn't prepared for this it's Five Guys right I mean everyone was the so-called Center or big big man Alex Christian was playing out yeah he was more like five five point forwards the uh that David Morrison got extended minutes he's played yeah he's played about about eight straight minutes here he hasn't come out came in in the first period and hasn't sat since and he's been rebounding passing well and two giant threes yeah he's a nice nice shooter too um he and Max have uh have changed the complexion of the game I think mfield uh you got a re reload here how how do you defend those guys as opposed to uh teeing up the game so that he can keep the ball out of Shane's hands they did a good job
026of that but they didn't know what to do when they got hold of Ashley's smaller quicker and better shooting team this unit's done a nice job fineberg only a freshman nothing wrong with that play but Zimmerman can't get it to go and then they foul they just leaned on him well you you can't underestimate the importance of those second shots Bob you just can't give the other team second shots looks like a distinct height Advantage for the baby blue for goo's tall what's he listed at He's listed at 63 and Andrew sha 64 yeah you nothing spectacular in terms of height but you know good height real good [Applause] height the lead is three points for ash on 218 fineberg the hesitation dribble goes between his legs twice finds an opening couldn't get it to
027go nice jump shot if we didn't have the uh jump stop if we didn't have the second bounce there would had a put back too for goal a foul no call maybe you ran into the invisible force field barom that's right P Brook hasn't really had those many shots though he made one beautiful one I think blocked underneath a jump ball wow you know I think that's a pretty good call he made that uh that step around and didn't have anywhere to go kind of jumped up man got that or Alex Christenson I think it was Christensen high pass for goola gives it up quickly gets it back finds an opening still won't shoot just at the buzz of fola gets in yeah and get hit on the arm no that was zimman h on
028the arm excuse me yeah John Van CLE nobody boxing out that ball just almost hit the floor it's position it's not leaping Bob yeah you know yeah I've tried to stress that to my players well we can stress it they got to do it 218 Ash leading by three I still think the most beautiful play in basketball if you're a player and you know the game a little bit is uh when you've done such a good job boxing out that the ball can actually Hit the Floor yes and you can pick it up and the other players sealed off yeah 2119 as Le by two a quick traveling on fineberg I guess oh Max I don't know if he stepped on the sideline or P the ball but he he was in a continuous motion
029he called a travel off unusual call on a rush up the floor yeah so Medfield with a chance to tie or take the lead looks like momentum is switched back after that timeout to Medfield frola pen bro could have picked up a foul on iusi should have thrown that leaned in and threw it up underneath heavy traffic Alex Christensen with the block yeah nice nice block from behind and CLE with the ball R's been quiet here in the second period takes it into the lane squeezes it up it doesn't hit yeah they just they swallowed the whistle tonight there's some contact there too that's okay as long as it's both ways penro can't find an open he hasn't been able to find one all night 22 is John Pendergast fragola has this shot he's been
030reluctant to take quick release tie game 21 all 222 to go until halftime fineberg doubled in the corner dribbles out of it Medfield player goes down untouched no call Ashan has to keep their pattern maintain the composure get a good shot Max behind the back back between the legs Morrison hits him with the pass and Max couldn't get it to go Max got a nice nice what a beautiful play give but he had his head down you got to jump up not horizontal just rolled off the rim yeah under two minutes now left pen Brook's going to take one back rim it fineberg could have been called over the top and maybe will yeah late call but that's what it was that's what it was finally time to had blown you you almost think it
031was on someone else 16 fouls on ashy tie game 21 all so Midfield gets free throws on all fouls by Ashley from here on in John vanle Good Work Out jumped by the taller Andrew Shay who puts it home good uh he will that one he got the rebound on will and made the basket on will so Ash's five-point lead is gone they now Trail by two John ausi Coast to Coast plus one the answer he may not be the tallest player on the court but he thinks he is and he'll take it into the Land of the Giants he found a nice seam that time yeah he really did good job and he finished clock has retake the lead 24-23 Jo complet a conventional three-point play nice P broke Pender gas ni step in
032EV leau returns and makes a play right Away Great quickness and good hustle and defense great anticipation David's open at the arc too long this time Evans saves it ausi has it shot clock does not reset so 15 seconds B no reset because it did not hit the rim was a nice pass now under 10 seconds oh beautiful dish and that one off the top of the backboard ordinar two seconds got to shoot they don't get it off they tried to weave it in all that and uh no reset the ball hit the top of the backboard not the rim so the 30 seconds they had two opportunities and and airball and top of the back wood no no real shots 5c difference itial shot and game clock now we're under 20 seconds left in
033the first half are they playing actually looks like they are playing for the last shot seven on the shot clock Shay they got it to the right kid but he didn't get it good rebound by Zimmerman airballs it 3 seconds left ayusi lets it go it's good if it goes good try doesn't fall that was actually a reasonable shot halim at Ashlin High School Ashland 24 Medfield 23 the great second half and all the halftime stats coming up in 10 seconds stay with us you're watching Ashland High School Varsity Sports on ashin television you're watching waca TV Ashland uh clinging to a a a one-point lead as we start the second half Bob uh a surprising second period where they outscored Medfield 15 to1 with Shane Pas Antonio on the bench for virtually the whole
034period had two fouls yeah they changed their offensive approach and the the Personnel on the floor and it worked out for him Shane backing in now with two fouls but uh this is their more conventional offense let's see how this goes but right now 24-23 Ashley back to Bob Thacker in the action John iusi the leading scorer in the first half with eight points Point guard's driving didn't shoot Too Much from the outside mostly drives points yep five in the first period three in the second on a three-point play kick ball um yeah join nice nice rebounding effort too and good defense he played a good all-around game in every minute of the first half if I if I'm not mistaken I think you're right Bob I don't think he came out at all doesn't
035come out here he goes again Up and Under and in there's John thinking he's uh he's 63 and 10 points for John I scores yeah Dave Morrison had six in the first half fineberg four CH pass Antonio two German led the uh big blue with seven most most of them early yeah took all their shots in the first half of the first only one basket he has five free throws he did get to the line and that shows good aggressiveness his shots were good they just did not go number 21 he is pendas number five couldn't get anything going towards the basket inside or outside yeah didn't have a great uh offensive first half maybe that's not his game yeah loose ball and Shane reaches down and grabs it with those big Ms Evan laau
036same as starting five again yeah van clef Let It Go and it does get the shooters roll his first points and uh they're big ones 28 23 ashon leading by five it's all about making your shots pendas can't find a lane he's just reluctant Zimmerman not reluctant that one rolls off on him Johnny iusi with a little tweak there on the right side of his ankle going to walk it off Joe Burns very unusual to be held scoreless in the first half uh Joe a great second half player we'll see what happens John pendic cast first points for Medfield in the second uh half as he rolls that one in pendas 22 and Pembroke number five clang is Right Shane good box out GNA let Max finward bring this one up now and cleff stays
037in Burns goes out three fouls jump ball not a bad idea if Max can get the ball to uh John John's a good passer and he's got nice Inlet pass there nice bounce pass to Shane but a held ball in possession arrow midfields way Matt penro is open couldn't get it to go nice rebound Inside by fragola but he can't get it to Dr second shot opportunity for Medfield but contested oh nice pass to Van CLE couldn't finish ayusi on the spot Evan labau there's a nice basket by Evan 3024 Ash leading by [Music] six Matt penro coming off a that was a good hustle play to get the Leo of the ball that time this frola is long and a leaper yeah kind of split the defense there drew the foul but he gets
038it on the Baseline Bob and he then he starts that those two three moves to try to get near the hoop and uh he's not really looking to Dish yeah he's uh that's his spot right there play yeah he's kind of one dimensional that way takes a three doesn't fall John iusi lost it out of bounds ah Johnny fingertips [Music] [Applause] craiger's in number one Jake played a little bit in the first half not a lot oh nice pass Andrew Shay from Remy fragola 3026 ashon leading by four good defense Now by Medfield shot clock at 15 Shane in the spot in and out rebound fineberg hit from behind no call but BL lot of body on that play but uh possession arrow I can't believe it hit his arm there yeah he got he
039got contact these guys uh early on in both halves have not blown the whistle very much oh oh oh John loses it yeah took his eye off the ball just the momentary he's looking to make that quick pass but a momentary lapse of concentration you know the rule Bob catch it before you throw it pmr's open turns it down gives it to zman swishes it John Zimmerman from Matt pemro 3028 Ashland roers with a two-point lead third period action from Ashland High School on January 15th 2013 clock is in white Medfield Baby Blue Warriors in baby blue did that go off anybody I guess not no John nice penetration move here he anticipated John Van CLE making a step to the hoop but uh he didn't John didn't right and uh the ball seals out
040of bounds turnover Midfield has a chance to tie it up with four minutes and 10 seconds left in the third period got it into the shade but he lost it fineberg picked it up fineberg without looking at the basket misses the you know good push but you got to finish by going into the contact Remy fragola the Dipsy do that he loves to do it'sit nothing lot of contact no call Joe Burns got leveled these guys must have an early dinner dat tonight Bob they're not blowing the whistle at all so far it's been two fouls called both on Ashland oh he finds a way Shane paser Tonio with a nice move Shane willed that one in that was a nice interior move 3228 Ash leading by four penbroke open Shay on the high post
041they take it away again nice step in ay rusi's got fineberg no more he does it the spin move in and out oh he broke himself free there did everything but put the ball down he deserved a basket there craer got it by fineberg now fineberg backs off fora from the other side has a foul from the back who's it on must be Zimmerman yep from uh from the backside came over the top so John Z picks up his first foul very uh gentlemanly game there there's been much real contact I think we had 10 fouls in the first half right six and four something like that yeah not a ton fber finds a two open guys and they weave it in Joey Burns for three switch there's Joey 3528 ashon leading by seven that's
042been their biggest lead he's a master of the moment another steal as they try to get it into sh Midfield gets it back last three times they've tried to go into in Shay the clock has have taken it away the bomb air ball still alive now they call him out of bounds good uh good team defense there extended defense out timeout uh I'm guessing Midfield 225 left Bob in the third period Ashley and up seven now 3528 uh as they've just taken care of business this period that was herb Grace's timeout the Medfield coach U and and look at this distribution Joey burns with a three Pas Antonio with a basket a rusi with a basket Evan leov with a basket and John vanle with a basket who do you guide I mean that's uh
043nobody's lighting it up but they're all lighting it up that's it's a nice period so that's five different players different players and for uh Midfield Shay's got a basket and Zimmerman's got a basket but that's it so it's 11 to4 this period and asand has extended their lead uh to seven marrison hasn't taken a shot this half right I don't think so no and uh fouls don't look like at this point they're going to be an issue these referees are reluctant to blow the whistle and and despite that it hasn't been a real physical game you don't see a lot of uh I don't see a lot of that ch pumping and stuff which should be the strategy if they're not going to blow the whistle uh yeah create a little contact on defense whatever
044they're doing to Andrew Shay is working he's talking to himself yeah he is changed that a nice job he's not getting that pass where he can do anything with it it's gone before it ever reaches them that is a foul and he didn't call that Max keeps control but Max wants to go there another foul but uh very very tough defense by Matt kahill number 10 now kahill's got it jump pass beautiful finish by Andrew Shay from Matt kahill 3530 Ashen leading by five Max loses his dribble rusi resets 20 yeah they get plenty of time Shane on a high post Joey wants to create something I'm screen by The Ref ausi has it shot clocked at seven Shane Wheels blocked by Shane nice defense he stayed at home and kahill with another pass for
045Jola swi mat kahill has been a spark pluck bar yeah he has he's got assist on the last two baskets and he's watching Max shinberg very very closely Joey takes it inside and gets bumped along the way that won't be any shots of course even though he was in the lane they give O'Reilly that one yeah second they go back court to Shane shot clock playing the guide position inbound 3532 as leading by three Max at the top of the key a Midfield and a man defense now so uh David's open takes it can't get it to go Zimmerman clears 58 seconds left in the third period ashon leading by three fola no that Joe Burns fola takes it away but they call a foul of fola didn't look like yeah that was uh that
046was the armf her grace not happy with that one but asion gets the inbound third team foul on Medfield 48 seconds left Morrison loses his dribble David's not not uh he's not the point guard he's a good shooter he's got it back at the arc not enough room they Wheels it into John ad dishes it it wasn't open Max will take a three back rimit they fight for the boards who's got it it stays alive Morrison puts it up might have been deflected David again 20 seconds left shot clock is off 15 seconds clock is not waiting for the last shot fineberg front rims this one and it goes to the floor that could be what was he push oh he t a foul on that one oh it looked like he just slipped down
047yeah I didn't see any bump out of bounds for Medfield 9.6 well that's uh that's a third one on Shane Clara should have held for that last shot yeah Bob in my opinion well they get that open look and uh we've talked about it a million times Bob that the clock management at the end of periods is uh one of the things that it's difficult for the high school players when they see it open they can't help themselves that's that's uh and you almost never hear a coach yell out last shot that should have been a foul at the buz max got away with that a lot of things going on there Medfield doesn't even get a shot left in in there 9.6 seconds and at the end of it all Ashley who led by
048a uh a point at halftime Bob win that period 11 to n they actually had a seven-point lead at one point but now lead 3532 uh a nice solid period for Ash off defensively but the momentum kind of swung the other way he got a little chippy down the uh down the end there but the officials um inconsistent in there in their officiating they're either not calling it or they're calling Ticky Tacs and I you know I haven't got a a feel for how their rhythm is well sometimes you know you call what you didn't what you think you didn't see yeah a kid goes to the floor yeah must have been pushed the apparent F yeah or uh Joey Burns gets that rebound over there and starts to dribble said loses the ball fola
049must have hit him his arm yeah and then they don't call Grace of course right in front of the play who sees everything um had a complaint on that and I don't blame him yeah and didn't call the the obvious fall with the clock running out yeah Max Max Max just mugged that that guy I mean to be generous I suppose we could say time ran out but here we go fourth period Ashley clinging to a three-point Le Jo Burns to inbound fineberg takes it Max's shot has not been going no he gave a lot of energy coming in on that second period but uh third period a little more difficult for him he's young he'll come and go but what a cool customer he is yeah he's uh he's got his offense Joe Burns
050stuffed but picks up the foul nice work that's good work there Joe's a good athlete they give that to fola or who no they didn't O'Reilly I gave it to O'Reilly it's his third his third who's got three we got a player with three Pas anonio and Joe both have three Joey at the line a good free throw shooter breaks a 40 run gives Ashen a four-point lead of 3632 lowc scoring game Bob I guess very low scoring two free throws for burns 37 32 ashon leading by five and Ash impressing kill ahead to O'Reilly on the cut to Shane block by Shane ponio great recovery there he played the ball got back and blocked the shot great job Shane fineberg looking and not seeing any opening now they go low to Shane who takes
051it in blocked from behind by frola feinberg's back it's a oh he could call for the block it could have been a charge is a phantom call Max thought he the position yeah it would have been a good no call there wasn't much contact there he fainted and there wasn't much cont backed off there was maybe a little contact there foul goals against Max fineberg his second Medfield inbounds four on each team 710 to go in the game good hustle he's got good Quicks the penalty starts at seven team fouls and one of the problems with the uh the maayi Fieldhouse Bob is it's so darn big that when the ball goes out of bounds on the end line it could roll for 100 ft or so O'Reilly the inbounder finds Pembroke kill's out of
052the game he was a spark plug for the baby blue nice uh nice lay down there Inlet pass very got Andrew sh's got some nice moves yeah he doesn't uh he can finish he doesn't miss when he gets the 37 34 Max with a PA and One Max Shay with the foul he couldn't get the block and he fouled him very nice move by Max fineberg Max uh not afraid to go to the hoop and he's got good extenstion good quickness makes the basket and a chance to complete the conventional three-point play yeah you know Max's just a freshman Bob but uh you know as he gets older I'm telling you he's going to have some monster Knights here in this gy yeah because you know he's a scorer and a shooter yeah isn't shy
053you got to have no conscience when you're a shooter and and uh you're right shooter and scorer there's there's two distinctions between the two of them yeah and he's a bit of both he can he can shoot from outside a nice defense there by Max by too and that really helps when you drive as much as he does one of the keys in in high school game is uh free throw shooting percentage and ashtan has been very good at that they haven't missed a a free throw shot tonight then again neither has Medfield six-point Ashen lead 40-34 6 and a half to go in the game ayusi couldn't get it to go Shay's got it ahead to fragola Morrison frola does the fade away and it works beautifully off the glass yeah nice hang there
05440 36 ashon leading by four Warriors picking up the pace on offense if forol played that offensively just just right that little Fade Away was beautiful just a slight fade Joe Joe Burns with a a perfect play yeah used his body very well there Joe very good underneath well a little step Around Bar once you wrap your leg around the defensive player he's got to hit you from behind and Joe finished 4236 as leading by six penbroke won't shoot Shay will and one wow nice uh nice finish there Andrew Shay Andrew Shay has been the story for Medfield he must be in double digits by now oh yeah he's got 14 Barb looking for 15 distracted by the official and misses the free throw that's off Medfield but fineberg finds it in the corner they
055back away from him kill back in the game Ash up for 42 find Z rusi who wouldn't take the three drives in dishes to Shane they took it away from him but they hit him on the yard [Applause] fora let's see how many that is on they give it to someone else they gave it to pemo wow that's a break yeah that's a break for the big blue Joe asan will be shooting the penalty uh the next time they get foul 16 fouls on the Warriors Shane the follow away switch nice right hand good finish sky hook ashon lead is six points 4438 well tough position but Shane has come up big when he's had to a nice block this this half and a nice kill finds Shay they take it away David Morrison Shay
056that's a that's silly foul and that time I think they got him that's his third it's that natural reaction when the ball is stolen from you just start flailing it was ever close that's the one they always catch only five minutes left in the game so you dandro shay with three fouls it could be a factor could not be a factor we'll have to see Dave Morrison makes the front end David doesn't get many free throws but those are two big ones yeah and as their biggest lead I believe eight points B 4638 with about 5 minutes left in the game Joey sits and Van CLE John Van CLE comes in penbroke Kill Zimmerman's done a nice job shutting off the offense from the perimeter it's that's their play yeah it's been Shay and that's
057now theway goes on the rebound get his own rebound timeout Midfield 4640 uh as Andrew Shay has lit it up this half 10 points this half Bob and 16 on the game he's a he's a nice player so Ash's had good luck yeah stealing that inbounds pass but when they do get it in Shay's been very very tough keeps the ball up high he got good body control he's got a sense of where the defense is and he's shown he's been able to finish and that time get his own rebound of a Miss yeah he uh by the way he missed a free throw bomb that's the first free throw that either team has missed tonight wow that is something huh very unusual statistic Ash's 11 minutes left in the game four and a half
058left in the game and uh Midfield six for seven wow 11 for 11 for Ashley that's uh I got to think the referee distracted him on that F you saw him look at the ref as if the ref was calling he said something he thought and he stopped in mid motion yeah what's that thing where you could you can reset kids don't know that they think they got to turn around and take the free throw but but 4640 actually end with a six-point lead and the ball a lot of time left Mars and fineberg AA rusi van cleff and PAs Antonio for the clockers and press by Midfield a strong manto man full court pressure Max just standing there yeah and see leave him alone put the ball in play CLE comes back to take
059it and the Warriors break backwards 46 to 40 Ash leading by six four and a half to go fineberg find Z rusi very very deep shot clock at 12 [Music] Max has got it no hesitation no had a good look just off right peno's passes just a little bit uh behind pendas but he coralled it loses his dribble both teams very tentative on their offense simmerman look like he got hit the right hand it went in he did but it went in nice 4642 Ash lead by four that's a tough Shot Bob too you're moving towards the hoop and he got hit too a lot didn't go wrong John II looking up and saying how come no one's moving bad pass yeah little anticipation marrison tried to lead ponio it didn't connect pemro finds for
060Jola back to pemro Matt hesitant Zimmerman is not two in a row for Johnny Zimmerman and and the clocker lead is down to two time out Ashley now good good timeout by Mark champagne Zimmerman is finding that little crease uh just beneath the foul line about 12 feet 10 ft out and he's exploited that a couple times uh you got to make the shot but that that's uh that seems like it's not a challenge for him uh that that four points is Big so Ashan all of a sudden 4644 instead of 4640 and uh six straight for Medfield right plenty of time for uh this game is has been back and forth this is a little chess match for him 314 to go memory serves as we count down the ashin timeout Medfield with two
061timeouts left ashin with three well if if you know one thing about basketball uh time seems to stretch out four minutes is an eternity in basketball you can't just start to shut it down and get get cautious to change your plan asan has to stay aggressive uh that last offensive possession Shane pasc anonio had his man sealed off but didn't move to the hoop turnover and all of a sudden Medfield backed it within two yeah I mean David Morrison's pass wasn't a good one in the sense that uh Shane hadn't moved yet but uh it was a great idea yeah it just didn't work out I had the right idea and Redfield uh does not press which surprises me because that's been fairly effective for them asan hasn't got a point off the break tonight
062I don't think fineberg the point guard in this configuration May rusi at the ark yeah they're looking for for join to get that second pass the inl pass mishandles that couldn't take a three this time he's open he doesn't go John Van CLE battles for that board who's got it calling a dash lands way is it a foul no just a just an out of bounds and uh reset of the shot clock and Joy Burns com back in not a bad move get CLE tremendous hustle gives ashon an important possession with 250 left clock is clean to a two-point lead Burns is in Van CLE is out fineberg sees a little opening couldn't get it to go ball tipped by Pas Antonio mat K Hill no broke lost it yeah Joe BR nice get back
063there to caused that turnover right away paying dividends as he comes into the game Matt Penbrook did just did not see Joey Burns coming up from behind to get that steal Joey the little jumper short Shane keeps it alive patience get a good shot cause some motion Ashen leading by two coming up to two minutes left in the game down low to Joe they kick it out but no shot erupts Joe Burns again front rim again Morrison fights F anonio fights asham ball again contact and no call as Shane fola touched it last that's the call shot clock is is new it should be at 30 not 29 Joy nice save by Joe there he's had two short shots two pointers and uh short on both of them Pas Antonio saves it great defense by
064Medfield bottling up the clock as fineberg finds an opening Ates and sashes it 4844 Ashen leading by four minute and a half to go Max at the open shot again this time back rim and it goes down for him pen broke deep Zim in at the ark 120 left in the game 4844 is your man he elevates tries to bank it misses it John ausi with 113 to go under pressure gets it to Berg cross the 10c line oh and a coach called the timeout Mark was trying to call that timeout for a long time and when they had a free basket the official grants him the timeout 108 left Bob 4844 ashin and isn't that always the way the the the game-winning field goals in midair and they Grant the coach timeout and the
065second time you miss it uh here they had a free basket and M been trying to call the time out for like like 7 Seconds well maybe they should be given like a bean bag that you can toss at the ra something anything You' hit an official with I'm four I was looking at a play the other day in football do you remember that play Early in the season where Bill belich reached after the game reached out and touched the official trying to get his attention oh yeah wondering if that field goal was good or not and he just went yeah and it was a $50,000 touch yeah I mean it wasn't worth it it wasn't worth it well that's that that's that one of those rules ,000 touch yeah and by the way that
066those fines are supposed to be paid by the person that that is f not by the team right I think somehow they make it up to the uh the player of the coach it can happen yeah yeah all right Midfield is going to press off of this timeout surprised they haven't done more more of this shinberg on the Breakaway up and in a design plan Max finishes 5044 as leading by six one minute left to play Cardinal S don't let somebody get behind you the bomb short Morrison gets it to ausi the Warriors pressing foul him John splits that defense and uh yeah Midfield is going to foul now because they're trailing by six with 51.6 seconds left and Ash has to go to the line and make the free throws six-point lead though uh
067that was a big turnover with Max wide open Midfield failed to defend the basket and he had had the lead and he's quick and he finished and that's that's a huge differential block yeah the one player who can make that play probably is the one they let get away yeah as fber stre and it wasn't off a pick or anything he just uh he just did the back fake and I'm not sure what happened on benfield's defensive end but mental lapse that's a huge basket 50 to 44 Sixpoint Ashland lead Midfield also eight team fouls so as they have to cause fouls now asham will be in the penalty and then uh quickly in a double penalty clock is with one to wasb they just have five team fouls seven triggers the penalty and between
068seven fouls number seven eight and nine are one-on ones and that's what John iusi has in front of him with 51.6 seconds left you make the first you get the second you miss it the ball's alive oh what a cool customer nice job by John 11 points now on the game for John in and out seven-point lead the ball's loose fineberg grabs it there's a quick uh quick whistle timeout time out Ash to be as wow right wow uh we'll see when they come out of this timeout but oh it could be a possession arrow call If he if he granted him a timeout he has to has possession doesn't he block he had have possession that's right Ash with just one with no timeouts left now well two Ali Arrow's pointing in the right
069direction Bob a seven-point lead now asham with the ball and Midfield in a position where if they foul we're going to get a one one and one and uh quickly the double penalty this would be a terrific a terrific win for the clock at home U this they they've struggled a little bit and against one of the better teams in the league this would be a big win and I I have to say what we've seen tonight is it hasn't been one player or two it's been the whole team it's been a great team effort Asha boys have been in every game this season save maybe one and they've lost some tough T CL games Joe Burns is going to inbound so it's definitely Ashley and ball they're out of timeouts they have a seven-point
070lead with 47.6 seconds left in the game Burns goes deep to Morrison use the clock draw the foul did he hit him he guess he did quick call 44.9 and uh David will be at the line I think he's sunk two already tonight and again this is a one-onone you got to make the first to get the second if you miss it the ball's alive swish David moris and a big free throw an eight-point lead only missed one free throw and Medfield has only missed one free throw all night David an extra dribble and a dip swish again it's a nine-point lead with 44 seconds left token pressure in the back pressure just to slow the ball up fola oh boy Andrew Shay way out there wasting here for Medfield he's out of his uh
071range fola finally launches one and makes a three timeout Medfield 53 47 the lead is 6 of possession game with 30 seconds left Ashlin ball yeah Shay uh way out of position there but um fola cly making a three from the right right side of the umbrella well that cost him 15 seconds to get that a lot shot down to 30 seconds in the game but again you know if you get a good shot and it's a three like that that's uh that's worth something but you said Bob two possession game six-point game Ashland uh got to take care of the ball take some time off the clock uh make their free throws that next foul will be the 10 so they get the double bonus which means they shoot two free throws no matter
072what entertaining game tonight B excellent game excellent both both teams have had some runs and nobody really has dominated but Ashland uh they they've answered when they when they uh faced some adversity Shane had to sit for a while they did a nice job looking over at the scores table as the uh clockers take the floor I love it Andy run and uh and Steve there wearing referee shirts I thought they made a jail offal they get it in and it's off for zoler and he doesn't think so that was a close call so the clockers get a second 29 seconds shot clock is off 29 seconds in get the ball to John they want ausi to to handle this ball on the inbounds only one timeout left for Medfield Ash out of timeouts so
073they've got to get it in and they had to rush it in Medfield with the steel Zimmerman stolen away by ayusi ausi and Joey BN picks it up and he's fouled quickly what a big play by John ausi with 21 seconds left Medfield trying to close it to one possession and iusi comes up with the steal they couldn't get the ball into him that's why you you hate to have no timeouts left Bob I know the coach had to use them yeah but uh Joe BRS had to let that ball go to somebody well you're trying to yell from 75 feet away I mean there was no timeouts left the 5sec rule he had to get it in he had to let it go Ashan continues their Excellence from the charity stripe off I'll have
074to add the numbers up afterwards but they've only missed one it's now a threep possession game with that free throw second one Falls 5547 as leading by eight under 20 seconds to play pembro partially deflected by he walks they let it go the bomb in and out frola can't get it Morrison commits a foul they let it go Zimmerman good if it goes but it's not going to matter one way or another and time expires Ashland upsets Medfield here tonight at ashin high school a great win for the boys uh they beat the Medfield big blue for the first time in a while the final score is Ashland 55 and Medfield 47 and this is the win the ashin boys needed they go to five and six yep on the season and now you know
075you can beat anybody yeah that was a statement win by Ashen against the quality team uh these kids played wire to wire uh well coached on both sides well played uh it wasn't dirty it was clean it was good basketball ball and Ashland did what they had to do uh they wound up with a 5547 win Bob uh big win for the program that's an important win yeah uh now you know you know that makes up for some of those close defeats that you've had to take this year well it's also a shot in the out for the confidence feel like now you can you can compete with whoever you play in this league ashin 55 Medfield 47 the postgame show is coming right up stay with us you're watching Ashland High School Varsity Sports
076on Ashland television you're watching waca TV welcome back to Ashlin High School a thrilling boys varsity game here tonight played on January 15 2013 and the homestanding clockers come up with a big big win tonight over the Medfield big blue the final score Ashland 55 and Medfield 47 this game was tight all the way right from the beginning and the clock has uh picked a good time to to create some separation there in the fourth period in the waning moments of the fourth period and uh a great great game for Ashley and tonight in a great win they go to five and six on the season and suddenly anything seems possible yeah it's a it's a nice sign for them because uh 4- seven is a lot bigger Hill to climb than five- six Bob
077and against a good program like Medfield and the good team that came in here seven and two that's a statement win for Ashland uh I think they've they've played hard all season like you said they've lost some close games and to win a game like this uh is has got to be very gratifying for the the coach and for the team yeah they needed this one yeah terrific game terrific game and they win it tonight here and uh the spark plug I guess you'd have to say uh with the shooting of John ausi in the first half and uh yeah John going to the basket John did a lot for this team uh uh he's he's not he's not the tallest player but he's uh he plays with a lot of heart he played defense
078he rebounded he scored uh 11 points so had a nice night tonight uh all around and he and he got some help there were there were players like uh Joy burn who was quiet for most of the game and wound up having a strong second half wound up with nine points all in the second half he a second half player terrific always has and played some good defense he uh he made some nice plays Down Under the South basket tonight on defense and and he's not the tallest player but uh very heady player and a good athlete uh pas Antonio uh was harassed all night um and and to work hard for his points but shanee did some things he came back down here after guiding the ball on the break he made a terrific
079block on a shot uh made it made a nice basket that was a big play uh to follow that up and there was some good turnaround moments in this game for the clockers so they dug in they never gave up against a good Midfield team and a satisfy Shane up with uh Shane wound up with six points tonight which you You' think it' be an off night for him and offensively he scores more than that but uh had a had a terrific all-around game this was a good team Victory fineberg playing virtually uh I think he played the entire second half in a good chunk of the first half uh I think he played most of the last three quarters what do he end up with he W up with 11 points some big basket
080night hit some big baskets that Breakaway here on the inbound play that really SE was huge that turned it from four to six in uh possession Ashley ter terrific game uh by the youngster as a freshman that's that's a great game and not shy about shooting Bob it reminds me a little bit of of you when you were younger thank you and David Morris and uh May those two threes were very big in the first half as the clockers were in danger of falling out of it only made four free throws in the four free throws were hug up with 10 points on the night nice nice night for uh David Mar John vanle what a hustle play there in the second half to kick the ball ashan's way yeah John good defense tonight too
081and he had a what a one basket yeah had two points on the night but again a contributor a lot of contributors Evan laau made a big Basket in the second half yeah Evan uh uh one those kids that just tremendous hustle good defense all the time has his head in the game when he's in there he plays all out and Alex Christensen had some good moments Alex W up with just two excuse me with four points excuse me two points I'm sorry uh but could contribute on both ends of the Court too some nice passing too Alex uh did a good job offensively with that second pass so the coach went with eight players which I guess you'd say has been his custom uh in the times that we've seen the clockers uh this
082season cam fif Amir mohini Dean corales and Brendan Thurber did not play yeah and for Medfield uh I guess Andrew Shay had to be their leading scorer right Andrew had 16 uh and it was big in the second half number the rest of their offense kind of disappeared Zimmerman had some points late uh and wound up with 13 he had two big baskets in the fourth period he he was quiet for long periods of time there I didn't I didn't like what I saw from Medfield at the end of the game it seemed like no one wanted to shoot they for got completely about getting it into Andrew Shay and no one and no one was willing to take the three yeah they didn't play a great strategy even fola who's a who's a driver
083a slasher who'll shoot the three everything even he seemed a little tenative one dimensional how many points did he get he want up with nine nine but touched the ball a lot too yeah you know should have had more could have had more just like uh um just like Zimmerman who had 13 but had the ball a lot Matt penro was a good ball hander but would not drive and would not shoot had one uh Matt Cahill gave him a real spark I thought in the second half but uh the coach did not have complete confidence in him and he and he was in and out of the game it is Herb Grace who's a veteran coach and uh has had winning winning teams against Mark champagne who's a veteran coach and has had winning
084teams it was just fun to watch uh these guys make the moves that they did uh and control their teams uh who who responded they they listened they adjusted uh they they played well both teams in Spurs Ashen comes out of it though with uh with a 5547 win at home which is uh a terrific program win and uh coach Grace of the Medfield big blue he only played eight players too and uh one of them Jake carer played very sparingly number one and uh I like Zimmerman uh and uh I think if they had given him a chance at the end of the game maybe he could have done something maybe Andrew Shay could have done something at the end of the game but Andrew did whatever they asked him to do they just
085didn't get him the ball where he needed at the end of the game he was he was way outside a great game game a great night here at ashon high school the only thing left is the Bob Martell player of the game well tough tough uh choice tonight Bobby because uh had played W to W Max fineberg when he came off the bench sparked this team one up with 11 points I I want to give the player of the game to those two players uh because Max uh when he came in in the second period when Shane had to sit down his hustle made a big difference at the same time David Morrison had those two big threes but I'd say uh Shane uh excuse me uh uh Max Feinberg Max Feinberg terrific tonight John
086iusi terrific tonight you know one thing I one thing I like about Max is when the shots not going in he's not discouraged the next one will he keeps shooting shooter shoot shooter has to Sho absolutely keep it up Shane and uh believe me that's what coach wants or he wouldn't be playing keep it up John they they got a lot of guys that uh they may be 510 but they think they're 666 congratulations to John II and Max fineberg there are players of the game more basketball coming up here on the school channels on waca TV also coming up ice hockey and uh swimming and all the winter sports uh right here follow the clockers right here on Ashland television tonight's game produced and directed by Dan Baker for my partner Bob Martell I'm
087Bob thaer thanks for watching we'll see you next time [Music] oh [Music]
