002in Ashland for over 20 years okay how about you uh uh it'll be 34 years on Memorial Day wow but I'm I'm still considered a newcomer so well we are here at Marathon Deli we try to mix up our where we broadcast from last year we were at the new public safety building today we're back in front of marathon Deli which is very appropriate for Marathon day absolutely and what's really fun is ashleen gets numbers from the baa and one of our Runners this year is Meg who is married if you come to Marathon Deli and see Doug his wife Meg is running with one of our Ashlin numbers this year sounds great big fan of marathon Deli yeah great place for lunch or dinner even absolutely so and they make some kind of a

003is there a marathon wrap or a sandwich something special they make there Marathon Club the marathon the marathon Club we're being told okay we may I I may have to try that I don't think I've ever had the marathon Club okay uh so we're also going to chat a few minutes there's a lot of stuff going on in town if you're interested uh and of course uh we have our cleanup Greenup Ashland mhm on Saturday May 4th and of course we're all counting down to the opening of the farmers market which I believe is the second Saturday in June sounds great I always look forward to the market and uh and you know what else I also I read Michael Herbert's Weekly Newsletter I get everything I need to know about what's going on in

004town from that so have you filled out the survey yet that's at the bottom of his email I filled out that survey I think the last email had about four or five different surveys that I need to fill out so I try to hit about one a week yeah Town elections are coming up people may not realize but on uh Tuesday May 21st our next uh Town elections no contested races this year okay maybe we should can see some right in candidates um but we still need people to come out and vote even though there's no contested races so May 21st and we'll talk about more about that later okay good well Josh welcome to helping me out on Marathon day here at around the clock thanks for having me it's so good to be

005here and we've got a beautiful day here for the marathon and just always great to see so many people out here it just feels like such a great Community event even though it's actually International but it just feels so local here on the streets right here on the marathon because it all started here it all started here it maybe starts in hopkington now and they're celebrating the 100th year that it has started in hopkington but we all know it all started here in Ashlin that's right well stay with us we're going to bring you more coverage of the Boston [Applause] [Music] Marathon welcome to Mar on Monday here in Ashland I am Yolanda Greaves and this is Josh Abrams good to be here Josh thanks for joining me this year we are out on the

006course we're back at our spot near Marathon Deli and the excitement is mounting as the lead Men Elite Runners come by Josh quick thoughts I love it this it's a beautiful day and we've already seen the wheelchairs go through and now here come the elite men and uh just a spectacle out here today let's see they're at 1452 so that's quite a pace oh yeah oh we also have team hoit driving by just now um not the hoists of course but the people supported by team white absolutely you know something we learned earlier today Yanda is uh the elite Runners are getting they get water bottle stations every 5 km so they are just about to hit that first 5 km Mark just past us and uh then they move on part of the great

007things about Ashland and watching the marathon is all kinds of people come out tell us your name hi I'm zop Cowa and uh you live here in Ashland how long have you been in town my whole life whole life and what brings you out to watch the marathon today I go every single year and it's always so exciting just to watch people come do you have a favorite thing about watching uh I like high-fiving the people nice good good so every year you've been here and how old are you now I'm 15 15 good uh do you walk here you live close yes I run here every single time it gives me motivation to actually run nice nice now I see you have a swiming dive shirt on are you on the team of course

008what's your specialty I like 50 free 50 m freestyle nice and how how long have you been swimming my whole life nice good well thank you for talking to us and enjoy the marathon you too okay take care speaking with some of the First Responders that are here I'm going to pass the mic down if you could just tell us your name your role and where you from Sarah Connell EMT and I live in Sherburn sha Sweeney EMT from Holliston hi I'm Brian Grace the captain on Engine 4 from hollison as well as an EMT so we always here we bring so many different communities in wasn't too much of a commute for you guys have you done the marathon before I did last year and it was freezing and raining it was horrible so

009this this year the sun I'm looking forward to that have you done it before sh no first time I've done it a couple of times it's been a great experience bring it back uh so second year what was other than the cold and rain did you have anything did you get any people stopping or have to do anything I think we had more people Spectators who needed help across the street we did have one person drop out that but we didn't have to do anything so I like it's good safe so first time working but you ever been to the marathon no it's actually my first time to the marathon too and you're from Holliston and you've never been brief already this morning oh my goodness yeah first time are you born and raised Holliston

010yeah I've been there my whole life okay we have to talk we have to talk to your parents that's what we have to talk to oh that's too funny Brian how about you yeah I've been in uh in hollison for 10 years in Massachusetts and I've been to the rais a couple times as a spectator and a couple of times as an EMT uh helping out we have dealt with a couple of scrape knees some Falls and things like that but nothing serious uh thankfully um so it's been a good experience so far we're looking to keep it that way today we are continuing our conversation with people here on the course we are now with uh Lieutenant Anthony Duke asham and how many races have you been at I've been living in Ashland for

01156 years so I think I might have missed just a couple of them so at least 54 I'd say okay so you watched them as a kid and watched them as a kid at the Old Clock Town package store we used to give out oranges and water and with my family way back when so this is a tradition big tradition yep do you have a favorite thing about the race uh nice weather it's almost like the first day of spring I guess you could say I like it when it's when it really is a nice day like today and that's probably my favorite part what's your least least favorite part about a day so we are about to see the elite Runners and we just got some Intel from your son yeah just by breaking

012news he was in there at Honeydew recently and uh the elite women were at the 1 km Mark but we're expecting them really soon you can see the state police rolling through and they're the leads so and there but there was one woman one one Runner far further out from the other or something we have limited intelligence at this point we didn't we didn't get the name but whoever that is has got a big lead and uh favored to win this one this year okay so there are uh 15 Ashland run ERS who get our number and they then raise funds and it goes into the select board Grant the baa grant program where those funds then get spread out to different organizations in our community so many sports teams youth sports teams get things

013some of our school sports teams get things our library our Farmers Market a lot of organizations benefit from the people who are going to be running through Ashland for Ashland that's some great background information so Josh any any any willingness to be a runner one year no my time is coming gone here they are and here come the elite women oh they've bunched up [Applause] again so we're watching the race and we found some people who knew one of the elite Runners how crazy is that what's your names um Elise Morgan and Katie sulter and who do you know that's running we know Lauren Ames who is a complete rock star she is on quest to qualify for the Olympic trials and she just got the bib for the elite Runners this is her first

014time running with the elites but she's amazing how long has she been running I think she's been running probably like her whole life as soon as she came out of the womb yes so how do you know her so we work with her um she has two little boys and she is the director of Athletics at St Mark's School and she gets up at 4:30 a.m. to train so she can be done by 6:00 to be home for her kids and then she crushes it in work in life she's just amazing wow she's a mom of two a teacher an athletic director an inspiration to so many kids at St Mark school so we're so proud to be here and to support her candy nutrients feels good the energy is perfect so well you had

015me tricked cuz I was looking at your hair on Saturday and I'm like how the heck is she going to run with that no my daughter my daughter did this last night so Ash I this is one of their B you know I Bor that says Ashan so it's good thank you Ashan for supporting my fundraiser see you in Boston in Boston thanks Maggie keep going you got [Applause] this well this wraps up another Monday Boston Marathon here in Ashland and waca TV we've had a great day we got to see talk speak with some of the volunteers we caught some of our Runners from the Ashlin that were running by some of the people who are raising funds for Ashland and of course all the other people and support and wonderful atmosphere that you
