001[Music] you under freeze it it's like a at some point it's like a one two three y I'm Beth Reynolds I'm the economic development director for the town of Ashland um and I am so glad that we are finally here celebrating I was pushing Lauren to get the the ribbon cut early um so I'm glad it's February it's freezing it definitely feels Subzero out there um so what better J didn't do it so um welcome everyone um Lauren and Dan Crowley are the owners of this wonderful establishment so know how these two have done done what they have done over the last year and a half two years they have moved to Ashland they've started a family and they've started this business so you know they clearly do not like to take things halfway they
002just like to go all in and I think you can see the results of that here in this business is what they've already created here in downtown ashing um I think uh one of the things that I think is really really important about what we're trying to create here in downtown is like best said that sense of community and that sense of being together and that icy Vitality that we all want to see here in downtown Ashley and and la and already started participating and being a part of that commity since really opened up the holay SCH right back in December that we have uh one of the things that uh was I'm really real proud of and I know B is is uh that they fully utilize the busin and C program um so
003and you're taking advantage of all of the all the little mini programs we have within that larger umbrella all in all theyve received about $28,000 in assistance but that leverag the $250,000 you put into the business yourself and they have completely transformed the space I don't know if you remember what it was like before but it was pretty dark and dingy and um well it's anything but oh well thank you so much as well and uh sorry I was late I was in a very important meeting but just kept going uh and it was the reality that I was have ice cream sort of gave me a motivation to drive the exact speed the whole way here uh but so so excited I haven't had a chance to come in yet uh but I drive
004by all the time and been a vegan for like 20 years so part of me has been like yes I'm so excited they're in town but I'm never going to go uh but someone told me that you do like yeah we have almond milk and oat milk in all of our I will try to make up for the money I would have spent over the last several weeks had I know uh but so excited that you're here and I look forward to getting to know you as well I've only seen this nitrogen ice cream like once uh and it was my kids and so there's videos of them with the smoke the Dragon smoke out of the nose uh so they're going to definitely uh I have a citation from the stage signed by uh
005the speaker and myself but on behalf of all of my colleagues uh it's an honor to work with Beth and and Mike in the whole town uh to support businesses coming in uh but as small business owners you're taking this huge risk you're you're putting everything into it as all small business owners do uh and just a small way to celebrate you and to congratulate you and I know I'll speak for everyone when I say we'll try to spend as much money as we can here uh because if you've never had the experience uh my kids say it's it's quite uh but I'll just read part of the citation and I know the Senate President has a very similarly worked one uh but be hereby known to all the Massachusetts House of Representatives offers its

008that goes through fall that connection um we have a little certificate for you uh with the little commemoration of the ribbon cutting um and it says the certificate of recognition is awarded to Subzero nitrogen ice cream in honor of your official ribbon cutting today uh the ash bus Association extends the best wishes for continued success welcome to Ashlin congrat ulations on your day today thank you so very much thank you um like Beth said it is kind of subzero temperature everybody was wondering like oh why are you opening an ice cream store in the middle of winter you guys crazy like well yes a little bit um but also it's really served us well um to kind of learn some things learn about our community um get to know folks before we've got everybody rushing
009in um we've had a great staff we just hired our 10th employee so it's given us a lot of time to get to know them and work with them and train them up and we have some of our employees families here today most of our employees are still in school um so their families are coming out to support um so like Michael had said you know we this has been a lot of Blood Sweat and Tears for the last couple of years um we looked at no fewer than 80 locations in like two dozen towns um in Massachusetts trying to find the right space for our brand um and so when we came here again we loved the location and Steve Greenberg from Oaky actually helped us with with that and he brought in Beth
010from our very first meeting um and I think that the combination that the two of them had with not just um what the space could be but all of the programs that were mentioned um it really let us see the vision and so while we didn't have a a 12 Monon construction project in our plan or our budget um hearing the passion that everybody had for re revitalizing this space and looking at the downtown area and seeing that like hey an ice cream or retail space here is going to be something that's great for Ashland um really motivated us to say like all right let's do it like Michael said we only have one speed so we just went all in um did the complete demo on this and we're really happy with how it
