Um, so we'll start with agenda item 2.2 and a moment of silence. if you would please um please rise. >> Thank you. Dr. Cotton, would you lead us in the pledge of alle of allegiance, please? >> Yes. I pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Agenda item 2.4, the mission statement. Dr. Cotton, would you please enlighten us? >> Pull it up. The mission statement of the public school division is to engage all students in learning to save for academic

excellence and possible citizenship. >> Thank you. Agenda item 2.6 is the uh sorry excuse me 2.5 is attendance. Uh Miss Atkins >> uh here. I'm sorry. >> Miss Boon ready. Yeah. >> Got a Dr. Cotton. I was like, >> "Miss Futrell >> here, >> Miss Mcwain >> here, >> Miss Cessum, >> yes, >> Miss Schumig >> here, >> Dr. Walker >> here, >> and Dr. Patillo >> here. >> All members are present. Uh, agenda item 2.6, consideration of today's agenda uh for a roll call vote. Do we have a motion to approve the agenda? >> Move for approval. >> Second. >> Um, motion made by Miss Futrell. >> Give me motion made by Miss Futrell and the second by Miss Boon. think you are. >> Any discussion hearing? None. Miss Atkinson, >> yes. >> Miss

Boon, >> yes. >> Dr. Cotton, >> yes. >> Miss Futrell, >> yes. >> Miss McWain, >> yes. >> Miss Cess, >> yes. >> Miss Shoemake, >> yes. >> Dr. Walker, >> yes. >> And Dr. Patillo, >> yes. >> All right, it's unanimous. Agenda item 3.1, designation of the presiding officer until election of the chair. Um, pursuant to our rules, uh, that's the school board council. We keep it on as an agenda item. So, can I have a motion, please? >> Move for approval. Move for approval. >> Second, >> Miss Dr. Patillo and seconded by Miss Shumake. Uh, any discussion? Hearing none. Roll call vote. Miss Atinson, >> yes. >> Miss Boon, >> yes. >> Dr. Cotton, >> yes. >> Miss Futrell, >> yes. >> Miss McWain, >> yes. >> Miss Cessums, >> yes. >> Shoemake,

>> yes. >> Dr. Walker, >> yes. >> And Dr. Patillo, >> yes. >> It's unanimous. Agenda item 3.2, election of the chair for the school board. That's done by a nomination, a second in discussion. Uh if there's a subsequent nomination, we'll hear that as well and then they'll be voted. So, do we have a motion for a chair of the school board? >> I nominate Dr. Cardell Pillo Jr. for chair. >> Second. Then that's uh I don't think we have to track the >> I don't think we No, not for nominations. Are there any other nominations for chair? All right, hearing none. Do we have a motion on the nomination of Dr. Patillo as the chair of the school board >> for approval? >> And that's Shoemake. And Miss Atkins, you all right? Uh motion's

made and seconded to elect Patillo as the school board chair. Is there any discussion? Hearing none, roll call vote. Miss Atinson, >> yes. Uh, Miss Boon, >> yes. >> Dr. Cotton, >> yes. >> Miss Futrell, >> yes. >> Miss Mcwain, >> yes. >> Miss Essums, >> yes. >> Miss Shoemake, >> yes. >> Dr. Walker, >> yes. >> And Dr. Patillo, >> yes. >> It is unanimous. And here is your gavl. I am now retired. >> Thank you, sir. >> Agenda item. Well, thank you all so much uh for the nomination and election. Agenda item 3.3 is election of vice chair of the school board. Uh we're entertaining a motion. No, we're entertaining names for this time for vice chair. >> I nominate Dr. Melvin Cotton. >> Do we have any other names for vice chair?

>> I'd like to nominate uh Miss Shoemake. >> Any other names? We'll close the nomination on the name of Miss Shoemake and Melvin Cotton just do a regular vote and have them say anything. >> I think I mean there can be discussion. You can have them both address the board. Typically we have multiple nominations. There'll be an opportunity for each to address the board and then nomination for >> Okay. Who enterain a nomination on the names of Dr. that Melvin Cotton and Miss Tamar Shoe meet. >> Say it again. >> So, we need a a nomination to vote on the two names. >> Oh. >> Dr. Mill and Miss Tamron Shoemaker. >> I need a motion. >> I said it correctly. Well, so with when you had multiple nominations, uh the procedure would work is

that each candidate would have an opportunity to to address the board on the nomination if they choose. If they don't, then you would go into a vote and then you would vote one, then you'd vote the other and the majority of that would >> um all we have present right now is Dr. K. >> Yes. So, he'd have the opportunity to speak if he'd like to. >> Okay. Would you like to speak? as I've served in many uh leadership capacities uh being now for the tower the region vice chair as well as some other things to name uh I think all of you know that I show up all of you know that I'll do the job that's given to me that's not saying the other candidate wouldn't however uh I gladly accept the nomination

thank you shoe is not present so Now we'll entertain a motion. >> So do we need to ask any questions of the person? >> Oh, sure. >> Okay. >> We Okay. Do we have any dis discussion? >> Mhm. >> Discussion. >> Okay. Um Dr. Cotton, um the uh London Oaks right now, if you were in your vice chair role right now, the London Oaks kids aren't don't have a bus right now. So how would you what is your views on that? I would like to talk with other board members, but also I want to stick to the policy that's at hang with the one mile radius. >> That's that's your view on that. >> That's that's my comment on that. >> Okay. Go by policy for now. >> And and you also said that you're

present. >> What you mean present? >> Present like present >> here right now. >> Present. when you said you you you said you're present and you serve on boards, but you didn't name the boards that you serve on. >> Uh yes, I do. I said leadership. >> I said serve in leadership in other capacities and also serve as the Tidewater regional vice chair. That's what I said. I was speaking to education. >> Okay. And >> I guess I guess the the the last point because I I I what what was your platform? >> In which regard >> for school board? >> A platform? >> Yeah. I pushed for CTE several other things. CTE and I've been speaking with Dr. Brace about something that I haven't brought to the board yet. So I don't feel the

need to speak of it now. But every aspect that I that I ran on, I stuck with as well as getting teacher all staff raises making sure that students get credentials. So as a graduate of IC North High School, I took up woodworking. Never done woodwork as a profession. However, with my company that I own, I've had to do several projects to make sure that the structures were correct. And but I didn't leave high school with a any type of credential. So that's something that I spoke boldly about in privacy uh with other board members as well as in board meetings with uh Dr. Bracie about our children graduating. I also recommended that we have now we have to look to the future when it comes to where the world is headed. So I spoke

with several people about us making sure that they have those credentials even with cyber security looking to the future. Look beyond right now. >> I guess thank you for not answering any questions. I did answer it. That's your opinion. >> You did. >> All right. All right. >> You're welcome. >> Do we have any other discussion? >> Right. So now you would take a >> vote on the nominations. >> So we would do it a vote on Dr. Cottonman and a vote on Miss Shoemake. Tally the tally the nomine >> and stepping on a woman. That's crazy. >> It's crazy. >> You taller the nom. You taller the votes. >> That woman let me get control of me again. That's that's down. >> That's crazy. Like that's >> back and forth. That's whack. >> You

bring that point up. Try to make it. >> That's not going back and forth. >> Whack. >> Yeah. So you'd have you'd have a um a vote on the motion on the nominations um and you would take a vote on Dr. Cotton. You would take a v vote on Miss Shoemake. You tally those votes and then that would be the winner of the nomination and then there would be a motion to approve the winner of the nomination and then voted on by the board. >> Okay. All right. So we'll now do a tally of I'm sorry >> question. I know um Miss Shoe isn't here, but if if we had a question, let's say about um like how long she's been up here, would that be something you could address or any members of the

board? >> I can't address for her. >> Well, not for you, but could who could I ask that? Could I ask Adam? >> Oh, I mean I mean I can answer. I mean, alone. Uh this will be her she will be beginning her 10th year, I believe. >> Her 10th year, >> I I believe. >> Okay. Don't quot No, I'm sorry. >> She's like, >> this big believer is starting her eighth year. Yeah, I don't know for sure. It's eighth year, I believe. >> Okay. >> All right. And then for um Dr. Cotton, what year is this for you? >> I'm going to my sixth year. >> Sixth. Thank you. >> Any other discussion? Okay. And so we would now vote on the names that were nominated for Dr. Cotton and Miss Shoemake. Uh, I

believe Dr. Khan was nominated first, so we'll do But no, is that how you supposed to do it? >> Yeah, it's it's essentially a straw vote on the nomination. So, I can call the names and I can tally um, you know, yays and nays or we can do it by show of hands, whichever the chair prefers, >> and then um, we'll do the next nominee, and then the one with the most yay votes would then move on. Could you just go down the row and just make call a name out? >> Miss Atinson. This would be a So a yay would be yay in favor of Dr. Cotton. A nay would be uh not a vote for Dr. Cotton. So Miss Atinson, >> no. >> Miss Boon, >> yes. >> Dr. Cotton, >> yes. >>

Miss Futrell, >> Miss Mcwain, >> yes. >> Miss Essims, >> yes. >> Miss Schemck, >> Dr. Walker. >> Yes. >> And Dr. Matillo. >> Yes. >> 1 2 3 4 5 six yes votes, one no vote, and two abstensions. >> That was two abstensions. >> Two abstensions. I had Miss Futrell as an abstension, and I had Miss Shoemaker as an extensions cuz she's not here. >> All right. Uh, thank you so much. Congratulations, Dr. Cotton. And do you want to go through the I mean at this point I don't think you have to go through Miss Shoemake, but you can if you want to. >> No, I don't think we need to. >> I don't think so. >> Thank you so much. >> Now you need a motion to approve him. >> Cross teas. >>

You do the same. >> You know what you don't. >> Congratulations, Dr. Kyle. >> So you still need to do 3.3 roll call vote on a nomination. >> Okay. and a a motion and a second on 3.3. >> I will now entertain a motion on the on the selection of Dr. Cotton as vice chair of the school board. Move >> for approval. >> Second. >> Motion by Miss Boon, second by Miss Walker. Dr. Walker. Any discussion? Seeing none, roll call. Madam clerk, I'm sorry. >> Miss Atinson. I'll mark an extension. Miss Boon. Yes, >> Dr. Cotton. >> Yes, >> uh, Miss Futrell. >> Miss Mcwain. >> Yes, >> Miss Ess. >> Yes, >> Miss Schumick. Dr. Walker, >> yes. >> Dr. Patillo, >> yes. >> Uh, the motion carries with six yay votes and three

members absent. >> Thank you so much. Congratulations, Dr. Cotton. >> Agenda item 3.4. Four is election of the clerk of the school board. I entertain a motion at this time. >> I move approve or do we nominate nominate nominate Jillian Chief >> second? >> We have a motion by Miss Futrell in the name of Miss Jillian Cheese and a second by Miss Cessums. >> Are there any other names? Seeing none, I will accept that a motion as carried. Roll call vote. Miss Atinson. >> Yes. >> Miss Boom. Yes. >> Dr. Cotton. >> Yes. >> Miss VR. >> Yes. >> Miss McWain. >> Yes. >> Miss Essence. >> Yes. >> Miss Shoemake. >> Dr. Walker. >> Yes. >> Dr. Patillo. >> Yes. >> It's unanimous. >> Congratulations, Miss Cheeks. >> Agenda item 3.5, selection of the

deputy clerk of the school board. I will ask for names to nominate Miss Brenda Stewart. >> Second. >> Any other names for the nomination of deputy clerk?
